Pet peeve: sites and articles that talk about an app and don't directly link to the appropriate "App Store". Great way to make sure you get some malware along with padding their ad revenue. What a collection of tools.
Lockwatch is on the Google Play store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en&rdid=com.bloketech.lockwatch
Well this is the app in the Google Play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en_US
It has all kinds of alternatives to the right side. I have heard of a lot of great things about Prey but I have never used it myself.
Edit: Completely forgot you can make a custom version of this with something like Tasker.
tangentially related, but another good app to have on your phone is Lockwatch. Android-only unfortunately, sorry iOS users.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en_US
If you have your phone stolen (or taken), this is the app you need.
When the phone registers multiple failed unlock attempts (you can adjust this), it does a few things.
Pro features:
Change your phone's PIN and install something like this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en
It will take a picture whenever someone enters the PIN incorrectly :)
Don't do that.
But do install this.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en_US
on my phone. It would help if your phone is stolen and the thief is dumb enough to try and force unlock it a couple times.
So far I have only gotten e-mailed pictures of my own dumb face and my kids faces. But it is good to know it works.
It would give you valuable info about tracking down the thief.
I googled "android take picture failed unlock", and this is what I got, seems useful
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en_US
Learn the google-fu, dude!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en_GB there's this one called lockwatch for android
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prey-anti-theft-mobile-tracking-and-security/id456755037?mt=8 or this one for iphone
i installed Avast, and was suggested another app thru Google Play to give a shot and I haven't been disappointed. It's called Lockwatch Takes stealth photo of person attempting and also sends you an email if you're elsewhere without your phone but with another device.
Dont know about iOS tho, apple may not allow third party apps to access cameras whenever they want.
But I trust this app
Haven't seen it mentioned, but I always recommend it when this comes up.
Tangentially relevant, but this app would be useful if police take your phone as evidence.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en_US
If someone enters your password incorrectly and tries to open your phone, it silently: - Takes a selfie - records the GPS location - sends the data in an email
if you get the Premium version ($0.99/month), it can also: - take multiplle photos - record a short audio clip (20sec) - send email next time it powers on - notify of SIM Card changes
so, whether your phone is stolen or taken as evidence, you might get some footage of your phone being tampered with. whether to incriminate a LEO or a street thug.
>inb4 lol, what's the difference?
Definitely. Only data that is stored regarding unlocks would the the amount of unlocks (by e.g. Google's Digital Wellbeing).
I don't think apps can access info regarding which fingerprint was used to unlock the phone, only that it was unlocked in general.
Retrospective is a definite "No", but maybe an app that takes a selfie upon unlock can be useful in the future, if that is applicable. A quick Google search gave me the app Lockwatch.
This is the app I use: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch
It can send 3 photos slightly apart from each other and 20 seconds of audio if someone enters your password wrong.
I don't know if your Chromebook supports Android apps, and how this app would respond to use with a Chromebook, but I can tell you it's fantastic for my phone. It will take a picture of the person who fails to put in the password correctly, as well as give GPS coordinates of where this happened, and (if you pay) record an audio clip and email you all of it.
I have been running, for a year or so...
Lockwatch ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch ) + fingerprint and pin lock + encryption + Android Device Manager (now called Find My Device, on the web and in the play store).
There are a ton of apps out there that will send you a silent email, if the wrong pin is entered.
Something like:
But obviously you'd need to change your current pin, if she knows it. I don't believe there's a way to just take a picture every time you unlock your phone. I could be wrong though.
IMHO, Lockwatch ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en ) It emails you a snap shot of someone when they enter the pin or pattern wrong and gps'ed map image as well. With the premium version you can have it set to take audio clips, take multiple photos, you can get it to notify you if someone takes sim card out, send a friend an sms, and retry sending when wifi or mobile data becomes available again. I think premium version was 4.99
After doing a quick google search it doesn't look like one is available for the iPhone that will capture a photo at login attempt, this is likely due to the non-open sourced (closed source?) nature of the OS. There are apps like Pic Lock 3 that will hide photos in the app and will take a front photo when the password is entered incorrectly.
Android had a ton of apps such as Lockwatch.
Not a mind reader for OP but I literally looked up "fail lock send photo app" and found this. Though it's android :(
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch
Caught my GF at the time trying to unlock my phone while I was showering. She is an xGF now.
This is the software mentioned in the article - looks very good indeed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&rdid=com.bloketech.lockwatch
Here is a link to the app in the article for anyone interested
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch
> an app
Lockwatch ..?
I like this concept.
For the app link:
Lockwatch
Still uses the same name, maybe it's only an android app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch
Anyone using android really should install the following;
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch&hl=en_CA
I used to use Lockwatch
This one's pretty good... Doesn't do fingerprints, but pin code
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bloketech.lockwatch
I use Lockwatch for this. Been happy so far.
Maybe Lockwatch ?
Edit: It's a link to play.google.com I copied the original link after installing it, maybe that was too far into the store, updated the link, this one did not ask when I used another browser, hopefully will not ask for you either.
I've got no skin in the game, just trying to be helpful, apparently it's true that no good deed goes unpunished.
