here's my redesign i didnt steal from a google image search of 'southport sharks'
For some background, AFL is my favourite sport, but I did follow Jarryd Hayne's time in the NFL out of curiosity.
I was impressed by not only the volume and variety of reporting and expert opinion pieces on Hayne's team and his performances but also the statistical nature. It made for really interesting reading.
Once the following AFL season started, it was jarring to go back to the handful of weekly writing pieces in the Australian media on AFL, many of them coming from the same source, Reuters for example. And the distinct lack of interesting analysis.
Over the years, I ended up coming across a handful of AFL statisticians on Twitter, through Ryan Buckland's writing on The Roar.
The stuff they've written about on their blogs is some of the best stuff on AFL I've ever read. By a longshot.
They explore fascinating questions and dive into the past, comparing teams, players, skills and more, across seasons and eras.
They create statistical based All Australian teams, predict the top 8 and finals results.
And as far as I can tell, they're not that well known by general AFL fans.
And now they've all written a book.
I hope other AFL fans can enjoy their in-depth analysis as much as I have.
And yes there's a Kindle version.
I know very little of the A-League, but he manages to convey so much so easily. This cartoon in particular is just superb.
Your best bet would be podcasts, as that seems to be the favoured platform for analysers of the game. Off the top of my head you have Clicking Balls, Crawf & Hird, and Cal Twomey does one for draft/team updates I'm pretty sure. There will be others but I don't listen to them much personally so can't give you much more than that sorry.
Some listings here, not sure on quality/relevance: https://player.fm/featured/aussie-rules
So I kinda stopped watching the game when I discovered there was a website for AFL smut fanfic. I'm having a weird night guys
EDIT: Link, you weird fucks https://archiveofourown.org/tags/Australian%20Rules%20Football%20RPF/works
I got to swim with a whale shark! +1 Life Achievement.
Also, I've started playing Ingress, Google's GPS game. Its a heap of fun and I'm using a way to get out a see places I wouldn't normally know was there and to be more active and improve my cardio.
It's definitely far beyond a perfect list but after getting 40,000 votes, about 2 months ago, this is how people saw the top bunch of AFL players. Admittedly I missed some great players and may have been a bit biased with some lower end inclusions but the top 40/50 still is a pretty good reflection of who the general public thinks are the elite players in our game.
Martin Flanagan wrote a book about the 1970 grand final where he caught up with players and interviewed them about that match. I know you've asked about the supporters, but if you have an interest in that game then I can't recommend this book highly enough http://www.bookdepository.com/1970-Martin-Flanagan/9781865081878

The yearly incidence of melanoma in Australia is about 49 per 100,000^1, or less than 0.05%, which is roughly the the odds of Roughy getting a second melanoma unrelated to the first (slightly lowballing the estimate due to his complexion and the fact that a personal history of cancer is often a risk factor for future cancer). The 5-year recurrence rate (ie, the same cancer cells coming back) is between 11% and 64%^2
The odds are, unfortunately, very much that this is the same tumour returning. As Pathetique_8 and boardingpass10 have already mentioned, that's not normally a great sign.
I use(d) Unblock-Us
The App Footy Live has the broadcast guide and in my opinion is the best footy app.

I just imagined Trent McKenzie, Brandon Matera, and Harley Bennel walking drunk through Akihibara, all wearing Hatsune Miku hats like these.
If there's anyone in the UK who wants to watch this, it's on BBC iPlayer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m000lpv7/the-australian-dream
Check out plex (https://plex.tv) or emby (https://emby.media) for turning your computer into a media server.
Plex is a bit more popular but some features and apps are paid for where as emby is free I'm pretty sure
Edit: oh and feel free to come over to /r/plex
I learned Japanese at school but can't remember much of it. I know basic German, Spanish, Italian and French and a moderate amount of Swedish. Currently learning a bit (and on a 46 day streak) on this website: https://www.duolingo.com/ which is pretty good.
Update: I have been able replicate this on another machine (Win 7 x64 bit, latest Google Chrome and ESET Smart Security 9.0.318.0). I have also established this is affecting NRL, Sportsfan.com.au and even SkyNews that all use the malicious SWF file for their players.
Quick analysis on the file (As suggested by /u/voltagex) reveals it as "suspicious" - https://www.hybrid-analysis.com/sample/0ddce123294cb42167fe6fba6c0ef4609d328571177f63972ecec89048ebe600?environmentId=2
I am doing further analysis as I believe it is a carrier for something else. Yet to be confirmed.
I have filled out a Security issue form with Telstra, as well as posting to their Telstra 24/7 FB page.
Hopefully, they can replicate this, fix it and maybe give me free shit ;)
I have updated the imgur album with the new findings
My life has been immeasurably improved by PushBullet. The Chrome plugin works perfectly, and now all my phone's notifications can electively come to my laptop. And I can replicate the 'share via' function on my phone in a pleasing way. And I can finally do shopping lists properly.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.telstra.android.afl this is the official afl app you can only watch the games live in Australia and New Zealand but they upload every quarter after the game is finished. It does cost a little bit but I am unsure of the price.
Ok this should work.. SaferVPN offer 24 hour trial accounts, as long as you use a new email everytime, you can get a new trial everytime.
Goto and register, then head here and follow the steps here ->
I've been watching now for a few minutes already uninterupted
Takeda Shingen, The Tiger of Kai. The dude was a pretty badass warlord during Japans sengoku jidai (the warring states period), a time when you built a castle on every hill because if you didn't, your neighbour would!
Taking part in many famous battles, he is remembered as an exceptional strategist and statesman. He was also a skilled warrior in his own right. During the 4th battle of kawanakajima (there were 5, spread out over the years) against Uesugi Kenshin there occurred a notable incident where Kenshin stormed into the Takeda headquarters on horseback and attacked a seated shingen using his sword. Shingen parried the blows with his iron war fan until Kenshin was driven back by retainers. This was remarkable because single combat between commanders was almost unheard of at this time.
His war banner contained the phrase Fu-Rin-Ka-Zan ("Wind, Forest, Fire, Mountain), taken from 'The Art of War.' It refers to the phrasing 'be swift as the Wind, Silent as a Forest, Fierce as Fire and Immovable as a Mountain' in both battle and life. Richmond should adopt this motto, IMHO.
Completing the package, he had 24 notable generals, all of which were badass in their own right, so he comes complete with a footy team and some subs. Even Yamamoto Kansuke, considered an old man, took part in the 4th battle of kawanakajima where, when he beleived his plan of attack had failed, he personally went into the fray. After sustaining upwards of 30 arrow wounds during the melee, he retired from the battle to a nearby hill and committed seppuku. Thats right, after 30 arrow wounds while fighting, he got sick of fighting and walked away and killed himself.
Failing that, I'll have Uesugi Kenshin, Date Masamune or Tokugawa ieyasu, all badasses in their own right.
Last year I started using the AFL Live App with the free membership.
I use Samsung Side Sync to stream to my HTPC
For the most part the streaming was great and the image quality was the best option so far I have found.
AFLdude is the alternative option that has so downsides with the lag.
> impossible for an AFL player to go from six-pack to a gut like that in a matter of months.
I'm with you on that, but Motlop generally has a fairly sloppy rig relative to AFL players so I reckon it's not unlikely that he could've legitimately gotten to this point.
Unfortunately no streams.
The closest I've found in terms of live coverage is on the tournaments facebook page or on World Footy News.
Here is the link: http://www.allourideas.org/AFL2020Survey.
Things will be kinda whack to start as there's 1000s of combinations of questions but hopefully as we go more people answer and we'll get some sort of ranking.
Yeah, that helps, but it's not a silver bullet. I run an online game so I have experience doing it; it just has the potential to become an arms race if there are people determined to bugger things up, and I don't want to spend time dealing with that.
Thanks for all the help, I ended up scrapping Word or Excel (or their counterparts) and using an image editor. https://vectr.com/ was what I settled on and it is much easier to work with. Obviously a dedicated program would have been ideal, but this seemed to work out well. My fields turned out really nice and now I'll just tweak the little things to make it shine
Just reposting my blog in the meantime
But yeah, I hope I'm not sounding like a dark serious brood dude listening to The Cure on repeat and putting on my Robbie Smith make up somehow and I may not sound like that but I'm being influenced by dark moody shit for whatever reason. But that thought may make for another blog post.
Actually grown a liking to American Mustard on my pies and pasties. It's my only claim to eclecticism, otherwise I'm steak and chips and words and shit.
Also Here's my blog just started it and I don't think I mention much about relationships and shit. Just ramblings which don't make much sense. From an inbox from one of the mods here telling me to calm the fuck down (fair enough) and stop writing long ass messages (completely fair) I thought I'd take my ramblings onto a new blog. Started today.
I use PureVPN and I first tried it in Chrome with the browser extension and it worked but would only go in HD. A speedtest only gave me 7 Mbps to Sydney.
I then used the full client and Firefox and it worked in HD and the test was running at 30 Mbps..7pm at night as well.
I use Private Internet Access because they've got a good public image. Its got a metric fuckton of locations to VPN to and I've never had an issue with it. No issues with latency or anything - I think all the big names are gonna get you the same bang for buck these days.
I originally got it because I don't agree with the governments data retention policy but it's definitely come in handy for footy.
It will just cut off, so just re do the steps. I was amazed that this worked, because the HD quality is honestly superb 1080p. Can' get any better.
They won't ban you, I did this for all of last year and never had a single issue.
I used the free version of TunnelBear for it.
EDIT: Seems they may of caught on and changed this now as per this guys comment -
Yeah. Unless the AFL have constructed an awesome technology which they aren't sharing with many other companies, it should work. Remember that many/most VPN's cost $$ though so take that into account when choosing to do this. There might be tinkering on your end required. Couple to try would be SaferVPN, Hola and
Word of warning: People report issues with these things from Australia on a regular basis with dropouts etc, I'd advise taking advantage of free trials for different VPNs (or find a free one that works! Although chances are its a case of 'you get what you paid for') and find one that works for you.
Yeah this one: reddit is fun golden platinum (unofficial)
Bought it years ago to get rid of the ads and support the developer who is very helpful.
You would need a signal booster if you go that far.
David Schwartz wrote a book All bets are off which put his story out there. He does a lot of work for the afl and others behind the scenes educating etc. He has said on Sen where he's a host of the evening program that the amount of texts emails and calls he gets from players and players families seeking advice on gambling shows him that problem gambling is very wide spread in the AFL.
Watched/attended my first AFL game on Sunday before catching my flight back to the States. Go Saints! My buddies and I were super confused about the clock. I read somewhere that each quarter is 20 minutes plus stoppage time (max of 30 minutes per quarter), but each quarter of the game lasted at least 30 minutes. How the hell does the clock work?
PS: Oh how I want to be in St. Kilda when the Saints go marching in!
My debut novel released yesterday, completing a dream I've had for 30 years.
It's a goosebumps-inspired horror series for middle graders with a focus on Aussie history, folklore, living etc. The first one even includes some footy references :D
It's available at Forty South and Amazon and should be available in some Tassie bookstores soon.
Mentioned this a few times and it may be out of place in this thread, but a book by Matt Zurno called 'Champions All' is a brilliant read. Hundreds... maybe thousands of quotes by ex players on numerous matters. A great collection of stories and opinion without the polishing of an opinionated writer to slant them.
https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B01KUIG5SM/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_4V93V83Z1FXXAX50RPAN
I got a pair of these of Amazon, and they are excellent. Great build quality, good audio quality, battery is decent but not amazing but for the price you really can't go wrong
Sometimes content providers block a whole range of IPs from VPN providers.
Try choosing a different server within Australia and see if that fixes it.
Otherwise, if you're not tied to Nord, you could switch providers. Mullvad is considered one of the best at the moment, especially since Nord went downhill
I've never done it personally but I probably will if I take a 4+ week trip away. Apparently you can just spread it really thin on parchment paper in front of a fan and leave it to dry out completely.
There's also this one:
https://www.amazon.com.au/Time-Space-Footy-Tactics-Origins-ebook/dp/B00T25XAUG
But it covers everything from the beginning of the game to modern day, so not long spent on any particular era.
Not sure how old your ball is, they may have updated the names or style. Link to Amazon page, not in stock but scroll down there is an image with 3 different grip types you can get, Dura Grip is not one.
To create an Australian PSN account is a bit of work but doable.
First you need a separate email account to the one your regular account is on. I recommend Protonmail for this.
Then you need a fake address in Australia for your details. To get one, a good trick is to search for a cafe or restaurant in Australia and use their address because chances are it won't have a PSN account tied to it (not that it matters or it checks anyway, it's just easy).
Then to purchase the game you need to buy an Australian PSN card with enough funds on it. You can do this via ebay or a few places and usually they charge around $1 mark up and send you the code via message within an hour or so.
Heres another scumbag profiting off your designs: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/891853777966197/?group_id=173289363077726&hoisted_items&notif_id=1591788960278257&notif_t=group_highlights
Ok this is what I have done to block the telstra UI on my own teams website, it works on all sites.
If you are using adblocker then go here and install an element blocker add on. That link also has a very easy to follow guide on how to block elements on a page.
I havent looked back since using it.
Just cause I've seen it a couple times already in this post
This is headspace the youth mental health organisation in Australia: https://headspace.org.au/
And this is a similarly named but distinctly different mindfulness meditation app based i think in the UK: https://www.headspace.com/headspace-meditation-app
A recent study found that the majority of people who use the word 'woke' are boomers complaining about it. I've heard it far more from RWNJs than anybody else.
For part of Year 12 in SA, we have to research a topic in depth and discuss and evaluate and all that stuff. Anyway, my topic is on National Parks in Australia and I was windering if anyone would like to help me out and complete it. It shouldn't take any longer than five - ten minutes and any answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to those who take the time out to complete it.
Published my first book - well it's a series of short stories that I've written as part of a writing prompt and made into an anthology.
But it's here if anyone wants to check it out. It will be free from around 7 tonight for 3 days as well. :-)
Just thinking, if you wanted to randomize it but with probabilities. You could work off a http://www.random.org/dice/ dice game. Hawthorn v Kangas i've got kangas winning if you get 10,11, or 12. Fair enough odds? :P But Gold Coast v Collingwood I can't split them except home ground advantage. So Collingwood would get 8,9,10,11,12 and GSC would get 2,3,4,5,6,7 Home ground advantage 1 extra odd.
TBQH I CBF doing this for all of them. But it gets rid of a bit of bias.
This...if it is under three years old go into an apple store and request a replacement
Take a look at Australian consumer law, products should last a reasonable amount of time. I used to work for a computer hardware vendor and for a premium notebook this would be 2 to 3 years depending on the initial cost. These rights can not be excluded by the manufactures warranty
There is info on the apple site here: https://www.apple.com/au/legal/statutory-warranty/
Relevant section: > Claim period: A reasonable period from date of delivery until the failure becomes apparent > > > Without limiting consumers’ rights, Apple will provide its own remedies equivalent to those remedies in the consumer guarantee provisions of the Australian Consumer Law at any time within 24 months of the date of purchase. For the avoidance of doubt, Apple acknowledges that the Australian Consumer Law may provide for remedies beyond 24 months for a number of its products.
Ask the question, if they say no then mention the ACL and see how you go.
That's a conversation I'd be really interested on. I don't even know what Framework the AFL site is built on, and I've tried using Guess as well and it can't get it either.
Edit: Also tried Built With . Geez they have a lot of ad stuff on there.
Put something like https://mitmproxy.org/ between your phone and the internet when using the app and see what requests the app is making. They're most likely just HTTP requests that you can replicate on any machine.
oops. sorry all. didnt have my email notifications on!!!
thanks for all the replies. i think screen scraping is the solution i guess if no one will provide an API for free.
I am an alexa skills developer and was hoping to creating a skill for you fans to get live scores!!
Other option is to give you afl fixtures. Would that be something of interest?
Thanks, Shane.
I was using Hola VPN Chrome extension last season and it surprisingly worked great. This year it says i am being anyone have a VPN that definitely supports WatchAFL? I just spent some time getting it checked on the ExpressVPN chat but none of their servers supported it. Thankyou
Yep, I don't disagree - but the AFL know they make more money from TV deals for a few more years. The NBA went early with the online streaming in domestic US approach, and good on them - the AFL will, but only after they can realise more benefits from streaming than they do TV deals.
I'll always pay if there's an option - as it is half the locations on Private Internet Access have been banned from WatchAFL, so I wonder we how much longer I'll be able to pay. And then back to getting it for free again.
Try PureVPN, have been using it from 3 months for streaming its working great without lose of speed. You can also try Exprees and HMA depends on your situation and need I found PureVPN reliable for me.
I recommend people find a VPN trial too during the NAB. Find out if this a good option for their connection or not all for the low cost of just your time.
I know Astrill do a 7 day one. No credit card required. They aren't the best VPN, but they are good for a tester.
I used AirVPN last season and will probably use it again this year. I've had no problems with them and find their program very easy to use.
I suggest doing what I did last season & just getting it for a 6 month plan and just adding on what you need to finish out the AFL season after that. It works out to be a lot cheaper than getting it for a whole 12 months. A link to AirVPN
I use Footy Live instead so I'm not sure how the content compares to the afl app, but it has live stats which is all I want really. The afl fantasy app is shocking also...constantly freezing/crashing and always logs me out. The fantasy website also freezes constantly for me and if I leave it open and my computer goes to sleep it will usually cause Chrome to crash also.
There's an entire book on this that was recently published. Not a bad read, he literally interviewed every American that's every had a chance at AFL.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B073X74BG7/ref=oh_aui_d_detailpage_o00_?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I sideloaded on my Hisense Android TV today and got it to work. However, you do need a physical keyboard and mouse. I used this mini-bluetooth: http://smile.amazon.com/QQ-Tech-Bluetooth-Keyboard-Touchpad-Android/dp/B00BALK9CM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1455936794&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+bluetooth+keyboard+and+mouse
I imagine that if Firestick lets you connect a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, it should be fine.
I couldn't find any controls to set the video quality like there is with the desktop interface. I was watching on a 55" 1080p TV and there was a good amount of blocking on the video. I was only 4-5 feet a way since its in my home office and I was working.
I got a copy of this:
http://www.amazon.com/Test-Cricket-Lists-Ultimate-International/dp/1741782503
An older copy, it must be said, when I was... 15 or 16. In the nature of that sort of book, it was in some ways instantly out of date and in some ways perennial. I think Warne was on about 305 wickets in that book.
Anyway, one thing that always struck me was how his 'best Australian XI' (and he made them for all the test nations) differed from the 'official' Team of the Century and Benaud's team.
From memory, he had
He further lamented that he couldn't find a spot for Border, nor Clarrie Grimmett, but was very satisfied he found a home for two differing legspinners.
