I don't have any experience with the Celsys tabmate, but I use JoyToKey and an xbox one gamepad controller. JoyToKey supports chording as well (using a button as a mode shift or modifier button for the other buttons/sticks)
Best benefit: you can program it uniquely per application and it only cost $7 if you already have a gamepad of some sort.
the only thing anyone really cares about on ipad is that it's subscription only
besides that, in terms of features it's nearly 1:1 with the desktop version plus has a few tablet exclusive features like the edge keyboard
here's their official detailed comparison: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/
Go to the website and use the official downloads new install https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/ and then go to the dropdown menu window where it shows license information
Start the CLIP STUDIO PAINT trial version. For Windows users: Go to the [Help] menu and select [Register License]. ...Enter your full version serial number into the space displayed and click [Register License].
You should be able to find your license in your email as long as you've saved it or have it written down somewhere.
The sale and those pricings are for the desktop.
Here is the page for the tablet app subscriptions
You're trying to drag an image material to the subtool palette, which isn't going to work. If you've updated to 1.10.10/1.10.11, the zipper brush should be under the Clothing decoration brush. If you need to reinstall that brush, EOverM told you where to do that.
Release Notes: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note/
TheLoneTentacle made a nice post about the changes to some of the brush defaults in version 1.10.10: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClipStudio/comments/nr5zjg/changes_to_default_brush_pen_pencil_and_other/
your best way to contact them would be the website inquiry form here: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/contact
they used to have an official feature request board back when smithmicro handled their western releases and marketing, but I can't recall a single thing coming to life from that; the board shut down a few years ago.
there's no way to do this apparently, you have to contact celsys and tell them this issue is bothering you. https://www.clipstudio.net/en/contact - web support link.
I think this is the 2nd time I see this problem reported on here, first user noticed it coming off from sai iirc.
You can activate on any two computers as long as there is only one user (i.e. you).

when you move an element the quality of it will go down a little bit. the best way to avoid this is by using vector layers, or by having one “root” layer that you copy and paste rather than just altering the last layer you used. unfortunately most programs are going to have a decrease in quality when you transform things ^-^; i’ll also say that it might be worth it to find an animation program with tweening features to work with rather than clip studio, which is more built for frame-by-frame drawn works. this might be a useful list, although i don’t have the time to check out each program myself.
if you’re going for a south park style then clip studio is very good for making the assets, but unfortunately it probably isn’t the most efficient for the animation aspect.
Dual brush tips was added in version 1.10.10. If you are running a version that is older than that (1.9.9, 1.8.7, etc) update Clip Studio Paint.
https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/
Tips on how to use the new dual brush tips.
unless you've seen it lately, there is a new update from 1.11 check it here https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/ (newest vers is 1.11.1). and you might wanna recheck your tablet driver. something might have changed your pen button settings (csp can't change settings on your pen buttons).
if the newest vers doesn't fix it nor is there anything changed in your tablet driver settings, then do a reinstall. if problem remains the same contact support https://support.clip-studio.com/en-us/
at the moment there isn't a way to really fix this, however CSP's update on september 28th will add the capability to add all of your dockers to a single window!! CSP update info
" I've got no interest in using Clip paint for animations"
Well there you go, PRO it is.
(Side note: there are other differences outside of animation, the second biggest difference is the multipage manager and third is camera angles for 3D modeling. Check this link out for the full differences:) https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/
in their website, csp has a list of included & excluded functions in each version (ie. debut, pro, ex). and it's this https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/ it's got every technicality down
here are system requirements for CSP: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/system/
virtually any computer will run CSP; it's not very demanding in normal operation. the full app runs on phones and tablets so that should tell you something
it's only demanding if you build complex files with many layers, a lot of 3D, and/or a large document size. if you planned on having really heavy documents like that, then you'd make sure to find a computer with faster (in ghz) single core CPU speed and a decent amount of ram (8gb+). and obvs, you'll need storage space like a meaty HDD (or SSD which is faster and more expensive)
the fact is CSP has real data for user requests. we only have anecdotal data. that's a poor basis for strong conclusions. my career is working on software projects like games and apps (as an artist of course) so i've seen plenty of user feedback both good and awful
if it's not in there yet, there's a reason. if they can't share that reason, then you'll have to accept that and move on. by all means, make more official requests. they want to hear them. but bad faith assumptions (like the community is being ignored or the devs don't care) will only end up toxic to that process
i'm sure liquify will be present at some point. till then, here's a reminder of all the hard work they've done over the years: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note_old/
off topic: i enjoy your art.
As of version 1.9.5 (December 5, 2019), you need a Clip Studio Account to be able to register a license (and take advantage of Assets, Cloud storage/settings backups, and Ask). If you have an installer for a version before that, you might be able to get around it, but that also might not work. There have also been a lot of updates and improvements from old versions. https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note_old/#195
If you're stuck in a log in loop (where it doesn't recognize that you've actually logged in), check your Internet Explorer settings/clear the cache, sign in on there, etc.
> there was no developement or any worthwhile upgrade
Not sure what you're talking about, friend: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note/ and https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note_old/ say otherwise.
Regular price for Pro is $50 (USD). Regular Price for EX is $220. Upgrade Pro >EX price is $170. Pro + Upgrade = price of EX. The One Time Purchase is a permanent license for Windows and Mac.
You can use comic templates in Pro, you just can't make multi-page files (to make a whole book) in Pro. You have to make each page separately and combine them in another program if you want a PDF.
Pro has a limit of 24 frames in animating, EX does not have that limit.
The information is on their website: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/
according to the official release info it's in every version:

this is totes mcgoats yo
I started using CSP earlier this year. The program is really user-friendly, it was really easy to get a flow down quickly after I started using it. I had only used Photoshop for illustration before that. I don't think you have to be concerned about it taking a lot of time to learn if you switched. CSP focuses solely on art/illustration, so does not have all the photo editing tools that PS does (such as liquify tool, spot healing etc). If you are interested in making webtoon/manga/comics CSP is great for that too. My CPS automatically was "darkmode", so I dunno if there is a "lightmode." I love the 3D modeling tool, you can adjust the 3D models (shorter, fatter, thinner etc) and save them. The process for making custom brushes is about the same level of difficulty. CSP price is a steal compared to PS.
There are a couple version of the program you can view the differences here https://www.clipstudio.net/en/promotion/upgrade
> The graphics performance check just tells me that my pc is capable of it, it does nothing else.
it used to reset something internally in the past, bc. I had a performance drop that went away after performing it for a while. (that particular performance drop is long fixed though...)
I think there's something else going on with your set-up, because I never have brushes lagging when painting at around 400 px, brush with texture, paint blending on, brush spacing around 10 px. I would message celsys support at this point and ask them for suggestions - https://www.clipstudio.net/en/contact
1) It is more or less just going to the website and downloading a new version. https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl, if it asks for your key again give them your key. I assume you have a 24 month license from a wacom tablet? The key is on your wacom profile if you don't have it somewhere else.
2) Nope just the newest one usually.
The trial should give you the full set of features. It does need you to both complete the trial registration and create a Clip Studio account so that you can download materials.
Maybe you downloaded the Pro instead of EX version? (The EX version has all the bells and whistles.) Or didn't do the registration fully?
Here's the CSP Trial Web Page which also has links to a number of tutorials.
Don't bother with the CD. Updating from an older version sometimes is not the cleanest solution and has been known to cause errors.
Download the latest version from Celsys (v1.7.3.1 April 13 2018) https://tips.clip-studio.com/en-us/articles/762
Edit: v1.74 has been released: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl
I was able to use this for CSP:
8Bitdo Zero 2 Bluetooth Gamepad(Turquoise Edition) - Nintendo Switch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B081HML6MP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_tvm3FbH2N53EE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The only tricky part was getting the computer to recognize it as a keyboard / what the actual controller is called and not something generic. After that it worked just fine. There’s a lot of guides online, too. Hope this helps!
Hey everyone, I'm new to CSP (I got the EX edition on black friday), and I'm trying to recreate my favorite pen so I can use it in CSP.
The pen in question is the BIC 0.5mm fineliner.
Link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K77B6H2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_bUa3Fb4JP6XA1
Since i'm new to CSP (and art in general), I'm not sure where I should focus on. I tried to make a bleed effect by using a watercolor edge with a 0.5 blurring width, but I'm not sure that's the best way to go about it. I tried lowering the brush size and opacity at low pressure to mimic the toothy trail at the end of lines when you lift your pen but it came out too smooth and gray rather than just toothy. I also looked at the starting and ending section, but failed to make progress from their.
What is your advice? Thanks for your help in advance.
It does work best with a tablet, but for a beginner there's no way I would suggest getting a Cintique, those are not needed absolutely at all!
I don't even use a screened tablet and I have been using Clip Studio for years. You can get screenless tables for less than $50, and I know its a bit more of an investment, but you're really going to be able to get the most out of the program if you have even just a basic tablet like a Huion or XP-pen
You can get cheaper ones, but this is what I'd really recommend as it has the best drawing size for your money:
If not that one and you want to look for yourself, there are a lot more options than just Wacom anymore, I do recommend looking for a battery free, chargeless pen. Some pens for tablets need to either be recharged or use batteries, the battery one i have used a few times, I never liked because I really felt like the weight of the pen was thrown off, and I hate the idea of my pen going dead while in the middle of drawing, so I always suggest looking for the power free pens, which means only your tablet needs power, and that comes from your PC if the tablet isn't Bluetooth.
I bought one of these from COSTCO last year for $599. Works great with CSP and Huion Kamvas 16 Pro

Woot! I can confirm another alternative! I used the tabmate on PC and really loved it. I have since moved to iOS, which as we know, means no tabmate. I purchased an 8bit controller and followed the guide. It worked ok. It just had connection problems, and it didn’t feel great in my hand. On a whim, I decided to give another controller a try. I purchased an iOS vr controller, and I’m happy/surprised to say it works great! The setup is basically the same the 8bit controller guide as far as how to set up the hot keys. But, it feels way better in your hand (it’s made specifically to be used in one hand), and it connects with zero problems. I’m super happy with it. I got it on Amazon. Super happy to be able to report this to people that miss their tabmate. :)

No way that I know of. You'll just have to grab some calipers, then measure the distance on your monitor. I use a pair of medical calipers all the time for issues as you mention. I bought mine at a nearby college, but this is the exact one I use, on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Prestige-Medical-46-German-Caliper/dp/B00062N428/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=medical+caliper&qid=1571867872&sr=8-4
Or you can use scrap paper and mark the measurements. Don't scratch your screen if you go the caliper route, of course. Those tips are very sharp.
ty. KAMVAS 13 is on sale for $191 at https://www.amazon.com/HUION-13-Graphics-Full-Laminated-Battery-Free/dp/B083TTN47J
Looks like this interacts with pen only (no touchscreen) so it has palm/hand rejection, which is good. Correct?
Any issues?
The SSD in the SP9 can be upgraded. Here's a 1 Tb SSD for $184:
So if you go with 256 and that turns out to not be enough, you can always upgrade
Here's something that can help. Get a Traditional Art Brush Pen, & practice with that, try to incorporate it in your normal hand writing & drawing activities.
Learning the real world equivalent, will help you understand what the computer should be doing & you'll have an easier time adapting.
I found this tool quite fun & addictive too, but refilling it can be a pain.
This book is a great anatomy reference for manga.
I always start with simplified bones, then build outward. If you start from the ribs, it's easy to landmark the pelvis, elbows, etc. When you add muscles, make sure the right ones are flexed/extended. When you add clothes, check that the gravity is working. Proportions can be tricky, which is another reason to start from bones.
Try observing athletes to understand how the body functions mechanically (it's easier to see). Some 12-inch posable figures (like GI Joe, etc.) have extra fancy joint rotation, and make good pose models.
Good luck!
Using photoshop books would be a waste of time. You might be able the glean a few overall basic digital art concepts, but without a reasonably deep knowledge of Clip Studio you won't easily be able to translate anything more specific from photoshop to clip. It'll just make the process way harder and more complicated.
WHy don't you get a book that's actually about clip studio?
https://smile.amazon.com/Learn-Clip-Studio-Paint-compelling/dp/180056497X/ref=sr\_1\_7\_sspa?crid=LPDSUTP3CIVP&keywords=clip+studio+paint&qid=1654090413&sprefix=clip+studio+paint%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-7-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlw...
i think 3.0 is as far back as the global and English versions under the "Manga Studio" branding go
i think previous versions were Japan-only and so i believe would have been branded under the Japanese name ComicStudio
Yes I am using it as we speak actually. For the most part it works fine, but yes brushes need to be manually added. If you have a windows install you can download them there and then just copy them over.
I installed it just by using the Lutris script here https://lutris.net/games/clip-studio-paint/ which is as simple as it gets (click install and it does it for you). Registering my copy was trickier because there's a bug, but you can do an offline registration if you simply disconnect your internet before opening CSP (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zAofcGep8oM).
Other than that, getting my tablet up and running was trickier. OpenTabletDriver ended up being what worked for my XP-Pen tablet, but your mileage may vary depending on what you have.
Alternatively to Frenden's pack, you could use inkers from DAUB brushpack (https://gumroad.com/daub), which is terrific. Perhaps the Ink and Pigment is the one that is the best suited for a really natural feeling with its Fluid Inks brushes. It use an action to make the ink flow like in traditional arts. And for a bit more bucks, the Superbundle will give you other more digital-ish inks brushes, along with a lot more tools. DAUB is more paint-oriented than Frenden but is a very good choice anyway.
Window > Tool Property will give you your brush options back.
Also, you are using a very old version. The icons changed in version 1.9.5 (released December 5, 2019). There have been a lot of things added in the past 2 years: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note_old/#195
they usually send an email notifying the takedown & reason. this happened to me once and i got an email, i even had a back & forth with support. did you check if you have the same email in your clipstudio profile settings? the notification setting ought to be turned on in order for you to get one. you can also try contacting them about this https://support.clip-studio.com/en-us/contact/login?forward=https%3A%2F%2Fsupport.clip-studio.com%2Fen-us%2Fcontact
here are reasons i think are related:
a) user reports, which can be arbitrary. (mine got taken down cuz of user reports, i suspect language barrier. i wrote "my materials were inspired" and they thought i stole it, i definitely did not. i reasoned with support about it, and they told me to just omit those specific details. so i did and added an all-caps discalimer in it claiming originality using simple words.)
b) you don't have any or not enough info in the asset page. "quality control" and yet some get away with it(?) 🤷🏻♀️
c) you used a "non-original" material, aka materials not made by you originally (using csp default materials are ok tho).
d) you didn't specify "correctly" which versions can use the asset; 2 checkmarks: 1 for csp ex & pro, and 1 for debut. if you only upload brushes that doesn't have dualbrush settings or any of the new features, then you're good with checking all versions. it only gets complicated with complicated assets. here's a checklist for future reference https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/ (another one of mine bit the dust cuz of this, but was able to reupload fully cuz of the checklist)
you haven't given us details so consider one & all. these reasons I've gathered from the posting guidelines (they give you that link b4 you temp post assets every time), my experiences, and user reports here in this sub. you should read the guidelines if your assets get regularly taken down, they can suspend your account (happened to me once).
here's a link that kinda explains why https://www.reddit.com/r/ClipStudio/comments/kaewub/is_the_dark_interface_darker_in_the_new_update/ an old post from 1yr ago. your version is a few numbers behind. the new version now can go darker (but not full black imho, just very dark grey) or darker than in your screenshot. download the latest vers (or the same vers as the op from the link at least) from here https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note/
You might need to update CSP. The icon style changed with version 1.9.5 and that was released in December 2019. The current version is 1.11.8. In 1.10.10 there was a major change in brush settings and since that pen was uploaded 3 months ago, it might not work with your old version.
Guys, I totally gave up on asking for support on this ridiculous service. I went for my last option: using a VPN software. Now the Clip Studio works perfectly (just a little bit slower than usual, but it doesn't cause any harm).
I recommend you all doing the same, because Vivo is not gonna solve this problem for us.
PS: I'm using ProtonVPN
Out of ink. Just dip your stylus in some ink after you give it a quick alcohol swab. I like Noodler's Black Waterproof Fountain Pen Ink.
Yup, in that particular case, the folders can get a bit annoying.
Light table is just a more manual and flexible way to do it. If you're willing to spend some money, Reuben Lara has a tutorial on his gumroad on how to use it. It's part 2 of his animation series. https://gumroad.com/reubenlara
If Japanese doesn't scare you, you can just watch this one for free. You don't need to understand Japanese to see what he's doing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9YAYu2n-84
You'd just grab the body layer that is to remain unchanged and throw it in the light table and draw your new arm on its on layer/animation folder. You can adjust opacity, color, placement etc and have as many layers visible as you want. it's like having your own custom onion skin per frame(it remembers what you've registered until you explicitly delete it).
The main problem is that you have to explicitly define which drawings you want visible per frame. I think the flexibility makes it worth it, but you may not. It's closer to analog techniques.
One thing I hate about clips onion skin is the inability to limit visibility to key frames, breakdowns, etc. Light box allows you do to do that so you don't end up with a messy soup of lines to decipher. it also allows you to do loops more cleanly since onion skin doesn't show start of animation when you're at the end unless you specify first frame at end of animation....annoying.
I've used some custom Miss Chroma skin brushes to get a similar effect. Her video at that link shows their use. She's made some other nice brushes as well.
Open Clip Studio. On the left side, there should be a button marked "Login bonus". Click on that. If you don't see it, you may not have the latest version installed.
Anyway, for a short time (I think it ends on jan 24th), each day you can log into your account through the Clip Studio app and get free clippys.
https://www.clipstudio.net/en/news/202112/16\_03/
If you open Clip Studio, you will see a red marker next to the Clip Studio Paint launch button. However, if you don't use that, you can download the latest version here Downloads
I have a Surface Pro 7, which runs full Windows, so my desktop license is good for it. If you get an Android or iPad, you will have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription.
The 3D models with texture look like they might be getting an upgrade in the next few days, actually.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y5a8b5iVk0E
I know it's not the same thing, ProCreate now has the paint on 3D models, but I think it's a step in the right direction for what we could see on the next major release.
Release date for this version is actually tomorrow.
https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note/
Regarding conversion could a tool like Handbrake work? It's completely free and open source and can convert most formats into mp4 (while also giving tools for cropping the video at the same time), I dunno if that would help your case though.
Unfortunately the reality is that Clip Studio's animation system is second to its other art features, here's hoping that they will put some more attention towards it in the future.
if you haven't searched your entire computer yet and you're on Windows, i'd recommend voidtools's Everything. it needs to index first, but it is significantly faster than Windows Search with instantaneous results
good luck
If I were you, I'd invest in a UPS. Constant power outages are eventually going to cause you worse problems than just losing downloaded brushes. (This is just an example so you know what I'm talking about, I'm not saying this is the best one or anything):
https://smile.amazon.com/APC-Battery-Protector-Back-UPS-BE600M1/dp/B01FWAZEIU/ref=sxts\_rp\_s\_a1\_0?crid=DA6ZEPIQE8XJ&cv\_ct\_cx=ups&keywords=ups&pd\_rd\_i=B01FWAZEIU&pd\_rd\_r=a7996ff1-c6bf-49b7-a52d-6fd8f17e876c&pd\_rd\_w=qV...
Something that I would reccomend, if you work with limited space is to invest in one of two things.
1) A one-hand keyboard, like Razer Tartarus Pro (If you have 30 shortcut circa like me), Clip Studio Tabmate (A pretty solid choice, but you can have a maximum of 15 shortcuts circa), or something like the xencelabs shortcut remote.
2)Csp let you customise your shortcuts with every kind of key. As an example:
Meaning that when I put down my hand I don't need to move it. I really reccomend you to invest a little bit your time in creating a layout that doesn't let you move your hand. The only general rule is that you need to keep in reach ctrl(cmd)/shift/alt
Another thing in the tablet options under the pen option there should be an option called pan/zoom or similar. This will let you pan/zoom/rotate the canvas with ease. I don't know how it behaves with an xpen but in a wacom device it works.
Self promotion corner:
I've got a storein which I sell awesome CSP brushes/"add-ons"
Plus I've made a manual on how to use CSP based on my experience as a beta tester for them and my experience as an artist. It was reviewed and approved by Celsys.
Pro is a slightly restricted version of EX (hence the cheaper price).
Full functions list:
https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/
Thanks biggest differences are that Pro is restricted to 24 frames of animation per .clip file and it doesn't do multi-page files or have certain features associated with multi-page files.
If you're doing single-page illustrations or one comic page at a time (the ways it had to be done in ye olden days), Pro may be enough for you.
What device were you using PS on? You don't have to have a tablet to use Clip Studio (though I am not sure if you are talking about a graphics tablet like a Wacom or an ipad, so sorry if I was kind of confused about the question.) I have had Clip Studio on a Laptop since I got it, and it works awesome for me.
I have Clip Studio on my laptop and I LOVE it. If you are talking about a drawing tablet like a Wacom, I DO recommend getting one, but you don't have to spend an arm and a leg on those either. I recently got a Huion Inspiroy for $70 and that was a more expensive one, because I went for the larger size.
This one for example is on sale for $40:
https://www.amazon.com/HUION-H580X-Chromebook-Supported-Battery-Free/dp/B095YJF7KT
You could still use Clip Studio with a mouse or track pad, the same as you did for Photoshop, in fact these are VERY similar in design programs, you just wouldn't be able to take full advantage of the pen settings that rely on pressure and tilt for example.
I had a friend for YEARS who did awesome art with a mouse, so it is doable.
There is a morpho book on muscular bodies you might find useful. It does a pretty good job showing how everything fits together IMHO. You already have a very good understanding of it though.
JoYtoKey is a program someone wrote where you can Bluetooth a controller like a switch Joy Con and use it as a remote for drawing softwares (and other stuff). Maybe you can do something with that and use the joysticks as a rotary thing.
I don't have a Tabmate so I can't check, but according to this thread you can use JoyToKey to allow the Tabmate to work with other software.
If Affinty has shortcut keys like CSP then I would have to say yes. Use JoyToKey to assign shortcuts to the various gamepad buttons.
CSP natively doesn't have gamepad controller support.
Not sure if this is still completely accurate, since Clip Studio just had a recent update with several things added, so a few things might be a tad off, but here's a good sized list of all the shortcuts/hot keys.
If you want a similar solution for cheap - you can use an old usb game pad. I've successfully used an old Xbox360 controller with "AntiMicro" to map the buttons to shortcuts for years. Works great!
one-time payment is about the only benefit. besides that the PC and mobile versions have just about the same features
celsys publishes its own in-depth comparison for the curious: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/
yeah, any pen tablet you can plug into a computer will probably work with CSP regardless of brand
if you're talking about mobile devices like iPads, then compatibility will depend on the specific device
you can find a general overview of system requirements here: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/system/
the upcoming update (sometime today) mentions a fix for this bug. wait for a few hours and download that new version. here's the release notes for the new vers: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note/
Yes. As explained, there are very few differences between the two versions. Pro does almost everything EX does. I'm a professional and used Pro for several years - I upgraded to EX a couple of sales ago because I was considering moving into comics and felt the multi-page documents would be useful, but as yet I haven't actually used any of EX's unique features.
Solved it!
It turns out the version of Clip Studio Paint on the Wacom wasn't up to date. I went to https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note/ and downloaded and installed the newest version, and that seems to have fixed things.
I thought about just deleting this thread, but I'm going to leave it up in case someone having a similar problem ever finds this thread while searching.
The limited edition of Clip Studio Paint PRO included with Wacom products cannot be upgraded to EX.
Sadly, you can't use the discount with the Wacom Licenses to upgrade
I'm just really curious as to why people don't update sometimes. I don't always have the newest version, but it's usually pretty recent. (There's been a few people asking questions on Ask and they're still running 1.5.4, from March 2016). Sometimes you have to go with what works for you.
As to "a new installation", it probably depends on what version you had and what version you were updating to. Somewhere around 1.6.2 they added the Clip Studio launcher and cleaned up their file paths, so you could end up with both the old version (CELSYS_EN) and the new version (CELSYS) on your computer.
Release notes if you want to read what's been added: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note_old/
It's really going to depend on the art you're doing. If it's a reasonable size (not a monster) it should be fine. If you're going to do art of unreasonable sizes (huge, a zillion layers, with 3D models thrown in too), you'll probably want a Pro.
This is the recommended system requirements for CSP on iPad: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/system/
As long as you are getting the newest iPad (whichever one you choose), you should be pretty good.
yes you'll get two discounts for upgrading during a sale
you'll need to enter your serial number when you purchase the EX version
you don't need to download the program again, just open CSP and enter the new EX serial number they'll give you. in CSP that's under Help > Review/Change License
upgrade info: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/promotion/upgrade/
you can upgrade ex to pro. here's their page https://www.clipstudio.net/en/purchase/
idk about code upgrades, but there're discount seasons for upgrading too i think (correct me if I'm wrong anyone). you should check out csp's twitter or Instagram for discount season, and the most they can give is 50% off.
Okay... So your daughter's tablet looks to be an Android device of some sort, judging by the bottom row of buttons. The bad news there, is that there are at least seven different core versions of Clip Studio Paint, each made for a different operating system (as listed at the CSP download page here).
It's only a guess on my behalf, as I haven't used CSP on Android before, but I think that particular UI is almost certainly specific to an Android version of the software. Meaning, that unless your laptop is also an Android (Chromebook perhaps?), and maybe still not even then, I don't think you'll be able to get that UI happening, sorry.
Hopefully someone else out there can confirm that for you 100%, so at least you know for sure. Even better, they can prove me wrong, and give you a solution. But short of that, my apologies for being the bearer of potentially bad news.
There are brushes like the droplet or soft scatter that's default brushes in Clip Studio that works really well for glitter effects, and if you are up to date with the recent new release, there were some REALLY pretty glitter paint brushes as well.
Any new Windows PC you buy will have Win10 preinstalled. These are the system requirements for CSP: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/system/
Just a little confused about what exactly you are asking.
There are 2 grades of Clip Studio: Pro and EX. EX has all the funtions of Pro plus some. https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/
Pro can do animation, but you are limited to 24 frames/cels. EX does not have that limitation.
If you install the installer on the free trial page, it will probably just update your already installed program.
This is a fairly simple tutorial about animation, but there are lots more on the Tips site: https://tips.clip-studio.com/en-us/series/268
CSP only support ABR files, not TPL files. You need to have the most recent version to be able to import ABRs (1.10.5 or 1.10.6). There are also some features of ABRs that CSP doesn’t support, like dual brush tips. It will likely take some tweaking to get them to behave the way you want them to.
In CSP, click Help>Version Info
Compare with the latest version @ https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/
If you run Clip Studio (not Paint) periodically, you'll see news about new releases and such
Here's the full list of features for each version. I upgraded to Ex during the Black Friday sale and I'm very pleased about it, but the two main features Ex has that Pro doesn't are multi-page documents and unlimited animation. The other exclusives are mostly minor things - the ability to import a 3D model and convert it to lineart is nice, but not hugely useful if your own lineart doesn't match the style.
One thing that is rather nice, though, isn't actually mentioned on that list. When exporting an image to a single layer (such as exporting to PNG), you have the option to only export a selected area. Definitely not available in Pro (I tried - had to crop, export, and undo). Not something I'll use regularly, but often enough that it's nice to have.
The EX version includes ALL the functions of the program. The PRO version (confusingly the 'lower version') has fewer functions. You don't need to switch during the trial, as all functions will be available for you to try out.
For a list of functions available in the PRO/EX versions, see: List of Functions (Detailed) - Clip Studio Paint
Table comparing the functions of Debut, Pro, and EX: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/functional_list/
Getting Pro first (especially for the steal that $25 is for the program) is a good way to go. If you find yourself needing to make multi-page files or longer than 24 frame animations (there are other perks, but those are the main ones), you can always upgrade to EX in the future.
very likely. I checked here again and if you have the debut version you can't make "gradient layers".
if what's yours is not debut, then try it again i may have used an outdated term. in the menu tab (where you see file, edit, etc), find the one with layer. click it and under new correction layer, you ought to find gradient map and that'll be your gradient map layer. explore the software, and just as long as you don't tinker with settings then nothing bad will happen.
Easy to google, clip studio paint update english >https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note/
Just download, and it auto-update from the download, nothing complicated. No need to uninstall or anything. Just a simple download from the site will do.
Starting with version 1.9.5 (Dec. 2019), you needed to make a Clip Studio Account to be able to register your license, use the Assets service (and Ask), etc. If you haven't updated since then, you probably never made an account (it's free, and you get some Cloud storage).
Unfortunately, you cannot use your Wacom-provided Pro license to get the Upgrade Price for EX. You would have to buy Pro (with a special price here (you will need your full Wacom license number): https://www.clipstudio.net/en/site/menu_csp/wacom.html ) and then upgrade with that license number to EX. If you can buy and get by with Pro for now, I would wait until the next sale to upgrade to EX.
Yes, you can even get a discount if you own Pro, and if you wait until there's a half off sale, the upgrade prices are usually slashed in half as well.
Oh my system is Win10 too. Do you update manually by clicking in https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note ?
I'm so used to softwares updating automatically nowadays that I'm a bit lost here lol
It's in their official release notes: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note/
They tend to update the release notes when they announce a new version so we know what to expect. And then update it again with more detailed notes when the update finally comes out.
The $0.99 is the monthly Pro plan for iPhone/Galaxy phones. $2.49 is the monthly EX plan for iPhone/Galaxy phones. (Phones only).
$4.49 is the monthly Pro plan for iPad. $8.99 is the monthly EX plan for iPad. (These plans here are technically for 1 device, which could be Windows/Mac/iPad if you wanted to subscribe for your computer's license).
If you want to use CSP on your computer and your Galaxy/iPad, either buy the One Time Purchase for you computer and subscribe for your iPad, or buy the 2 device plan. If you try to save money by buying the one device plan and switching the license back and forth, your license will get locked.
That's Clip Studio Paint's own website, so that should be a clue.
If you go to the Buy page and scroll down a little, you'll see the same price: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/purchase/
You will need your full license number in order to upgrade. It also might be worth waiting for a bit, they might have a sale later in the week (or at least by the end of the year).
(NOTE: You have to have the full, paid for version of CSP Pro. You cannot get upgrade price from the Pro version you get with a Wacom tablet)
Info about the version preinstalled on Galaxy Tab 7 devices: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/news/202008/21_01/
You get a 6 month free trial, after that it would be a subscription. There is no Debut version for iOS/Galaxy. If you have an iPhone or Galaxy phone, you can use it for up to 1 hour per day for free.
Manga Studio 5 and CSP were literally the same program, the labels were just different. Smith Micro and Celsys' relationship ended around 2016, and Celsys does all the distribution and maintenance now.
There have been a lot of features added to CSP since the Manga Studio name got retired. You can still update MS5 to the newest version of CSP (which is 1.10.2. Odd version numbering going on lately...), But because of some of the changes, it will basically be a clean install unless you install version 1.5.4 first https://www.clipstudio.net/en/oldversion/
They have also dropped support for 32-bit operating systems and Windows 7 (since Microsoft has EOL'd Win7).
As for the issues in your last paragraph, I hadn't heard about the sizing issue, but people are still having some trouble with color profiles. Whether those issues are from misunderstanding that a laptop screen is very different from a phone screen, or an actual issue is a little debatable.
Release notes if you want details on all of the changes since MS5 was retired: https://www.clipstudio.net/en/dl/release_note_old/
What version are you running? Looks pretty outdated to me. I'd suggest you install the latest version.
iOS and Galaxy tablets are both subscriptions, so if you have the PC version (for Windows/Mac) you wouldn't be able to use that license on those devices. Works great on a Surface Pro 7 (Windows), probably a little more restricted on a Surface Go (just due to specs).

Short version I guess is yes, you need a license for your iPad, but it's not the one that was just on sale.
If you buy the One Time Purchase for Windows/Mac (the one that was just on sale), that is all it can be used on. You cannot use that 30 digit license number on iOS or Galaxy devices. If you want to use CSP on iOS or Galaxy, you have to subscribe monthly or annually, (through the app is easiest).
The One Time Purchase for Win/Mac is not a subscription, you pay once and that license is yours forever (or until Celsys changes their mind).
As I mentioned, it's okay to have a OTP license and a subscription on the same Clip Account so you can have the same Assets/Settings/Works between devices.
Plans can be seen here: https://ec.clip-studio.com/en-us/application/plans?transitionSourceUrl=https://www.clipstudio.net/en/purchase
They added subscriptions for Win/Mac as an option in April. But iOS/Galaxy has always been subscription only.
They introduced subscriptions for Win/Mac/iPad/iPhone in April 2020. https://ec.clip-studio.com/en-us/application/plans?transitionSourceUrl=https://www.clipstudio.net/en/purchase
It is not a pay-to-own subscription. There used to be that type of thing in the Japanese version, but they retired that.
The One Time Payment version (only for Win/Mac) goes on sale for 50% off roughly every 3 months. The last sale was in June.
You can, the only differences are the extra function in EX, not much if you don't need those, there's a comparison table on the official website for you to check available functions in each version Comparison
