Oh copying exactly a drive bit for bit is a difficult thing to do but not impossible. The worst part about this whole ordeal is dd. It's called disk destroyer for a reason. Anyway, using it requires a lot of proof reading and knowledge regarding the steps you should do. For example if your original disk is, I don't know, 500GB and your cloning target it 480GB. That will require also using resize2fs, tune2fs, e2fsck, fdisk, oh and fucking around with fstab. Just all the disk management tools.

And also your mistake; not running grub-install after cloning. (I assume you were talking about the target disk because wow the fuck it would affect your original disk I have no idea)

It is tricky since this information is not written about in a single book. The Adam Curtis documentary I wrote about above is ok but a little fanciful. A lot of it has to be pieced together from the business press like newspapers that cover trade or markets. i'm not from china. i'm from indonesia. i used the reality in my country as an example how western purchasing power parity is incorrect and therefore, westerners common criticism that third world asian country manufacturing are all sweatshops slavery.

i linked a room renting app that list a really decent room with private bathroom (as opposed to the more commonly shared bathroom), electricity, internet and air conditioning with $100 a month. i linked an article showing that the locals could get a decent filling meal for less than a $1. and it's a restaurant padepokan (which is like, indonesian version of community based group of small businesses) that spans all over the country. but he just waved it off as incorrect, as if me and around hundreds of millions other people didn't live like that.

what's ironic is westerners seriously think tempeh is some kind of luxury magic food, they probably are completely unaware that here it's literally the poormen's choice of protein. as in we prefer meat or even egges compared to tempeh. the ignorance is just astounding.
