Tow ropes are designed for towing, not recovery. The hooks usually aren't designed for the higher forces of tugging a vehicle out of a ditch, and unlike D-rings, they can deform, slip off, and become projectiles.
If you'll be doing recoveries and not just towing, you should use a proper recovery strap like this one and D rings like these.
You need a rear locker. Best upgrade in terms of noticeable performance you can do.
This is what I ran in my Liberty. Couldn't even notice it on the street.

If you search around you can find it cheaper. The best part is it can be installed without needing to remove the ring gear/carrier.
It's an awning, several options out there. This one is by "Offroading Gear" which is the American branded version of Australian company "Adventure Kings" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071XX7NZ1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YoGSBbHN8D4XN
Up-voted for listing add-ons! But seconding getting rid of that chain. This will get you by until the winch comes in...
I use a Yakima Dry Dock in the hitch, and a Rugged Ridge light bar to keep them off my top.
I can't say if that's a good lift or if those tires are too small, but I searched for the part number of that lift kit and several stores pop up. From a quick glance the price ranges in the low $2000s
Hey everyone!! Here is all the source files for the Jeepit Logo I created a while back.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yuxzmx20lk7fpwr/JqinPhbedL?lst
I tried to do stickers on CafePress, but they shut it down since the Reddit logo is copyrighted.
The only way for us to get sanctioned stickers is to figure out how to get them on http://www.stickermule.com
I just really haven't had the time or gumption to get it done.
They do. They have a micro connection so I can take the doors off that is why I when with these cameras. here is a photo of the cables.
I did the same thing. Got a cheap set of these from Amazon, they look nice on my black jeep but idk if you're going for a green and black combo

Not OP but I have Christmas lights on my spare that I power through an adapter I found on amazon. It was about $17 and I figured I’d get a lot more use out of it even after the holiday. I run an extension cord through the backseat and connect it to the lights through a small gap in my zipper.
Here’s a link to the adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KT26D68/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_jM.pAb1K5HZMZ
First thing we did to my wife and I's jeep was to add grab bars on the inside. They are probably the best item we put on it so far. Pretty cheap and totally useful. Something like below.
I have literally no idea what you are trying to accomplish with this Jeep but living in an "effluent" area is one of the more unfortunate misspellings I've seen.
No, not difficult, just scenic. Take the Potash Road to the Shafer Trail with its switchbacks up a steep cliff to the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands National Park. Then see Dead Horse Point.
Never heard of any desert in the Yukon.
Googled it, found that Carcross Desert in the Yukon is the smallest desert in the world at one square mile (magazine article.
That where you at?
I have this one.
I’ve had it for 4+ months and have never had an issue. I get in my car and it connects super quick.
The only times I have had to disconnect and reconnect the receiver is when I leave my car on if I have my dog, get out of range where I lose connection to my phone so when I get back in my car it sometimes does not re-connect. I’d say 75% of the time it will auto reconnect but I just unplug the receiver and plug it back in and I’m good to go. I know I can just get on my phone and reconnect that way but its easier for me to just unplug the unit real quick.
Wouldn't trust an ebay winch. For a very similar price point you can get this smittybilt which is pretty well regarded for budget winches.
Pretty sure you could get something of the same quality for half the price or less on Amazon. Here's one for $42 with 670 reviews averaging 4.5 stars. Surely it's worth trying a cheap one first before you spend $500 on one.
Picked up these universal motorcycle mirrors from Amazon for $10. With a longer bolt or modification of the mirror bracket they bolt right on. Just thought I'd share in case anyone is looking for some affordable mirrors.
I'm not a fan of the RTT because of the dog. You have to carry him up every night and if he has to pee you have to carry him down. If he jumps out from that high it's bad for the legs. Also there is a lot less room up there than you thing. For like $50 bucks you can get a pop up tent that goes up in seconds. It takes up much less room in the jeep or on the roof rack . I have a bunch of tent's for backpacking and car camping some as expensive as $350 but I settled on this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9nSYkEq0aA one for car camping. It takes up some room but set up and take down is instant. it still takes lees room than a roof top and it doesn't make you top heavy. I think roof tops are on there way out unless they lower the prices significantly. Also if you ever have to go under a tree or parking garage they are a pain. $60 on amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FGPY9CE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Edit: I wanted to mention that I never use the tent stakes. unless its super windy the weight of my sleeping bag or packpack will keep it down.
You can buy adhesive “woodgrain” roll for ~$10. They market it for furniture repair, it’s plastic, so it’ll hold up to the elements pretty well.
I’ve actually used an adhesive woodgrain kit like this one from Amazon to add some wood look to the top of a paddleboard. The things been in fresh and salt water and also baked in the south Florida sun, and the stickers are as good as new after ~18 months.
Edit: I’m also a proud Grand Wagoneer owner, and you should 1000% keep the grain. The FSJ’s look mean with or without it, but the people that love these cars love them for how they came out of the factory.
You can tell it's 2.4 liter because of the overhead cams.
https://www.alltrails.com/us/michigan/off-road-driving FYI: You realize that you have a tow hitch mount of the front end of your jeep. This could limit your ability to access some low areas or traverse uneven terrain. Also, it looks as if the jeep has been lifted then stock wheels/tires have been remounted back on the jeep.
i'd probably pull the axle shafts and pull the drive shaft. don't forget that you need the stub shaft to still be through the wheel bearing so it doesn't come apart. you might want to put something in the axle tubes too so you wont get dirt or water in the pig if your trying to reuse anything inside it. this is what i did when i snapped my drivers side axle shaft https://imgur.com/a/5vLXL

I take my kids on all kinds of trails. Always welcome anyone who wants to join. My dad who is 78 also prefers the more technical/challenging trails.
I would google local off road groups. In CA the is CORVA and endless 4x4 clubs on facebook. Honestly though, I just meet people at different trails. I don't belong to a club, but I will ask a few people I know who may want to go...
The value of going out with other riders is learning from them. Go out a few times and you learn a lot. Get dude's number next time you are 4wp.
This guys writes great books:
Seems sketchy to offer such a large discount. I bought a set of LED headlights and fog lights on Amazon for less than $100. They’re super bright and have lasted 6 years.
That’s what I guessed. here’s what the pins look like
Just chop off the nut and grab some replacement pins.
The best and easiest way is an Ez Out broken bolt/screw extractor from any auto parts or hardware store. You could also drill it out starting with a tiny drill bit and working your way up in size. Just don't damage the bolt hole threads.
It's a Duplicolor paint meant for chrome or bare metal. I bought it at Autozone. I figured, if it doesn't work, I can always sand it back down and go with a flat red but I liked the shiny red look so much and it matched my antenna and shifter knob so well that I just went with it.
This is the stuff.

That is the "Smittybilt C-RES 2 HD cargo restraint system." It's only designed for the TJ and JKs, but the TJ net installed on my YJ no problem.
The C-RES 2 is compatible with and without the hard top/soft top. In fact, my hardtop is back on my jeep right now.
I'll upload some photos and links here in a moment

Oh yea, one warm day I'm dismantling that entire jack and repainting it. The blue is driving me crazy! lol
I just installed these (from Amazon) in my TJ over the weekend and hooked up the DRLs yesterday using a 2-relay control system (of my own design). So far they seem fine. They are not like the JW Speakers in my LJ but I can't get the Speakers with DRLs stateside (before anyone says any, the harness for the "J" lights does not include wiring for the DRLs).
Got on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F0M5OPO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
My kids need them to climb in. Planning on getting real sliders once they grow up a little.
If you fly racers, it really isn't that good. I think someone said it's 40 g, which isn't light for a racer. For anything else, it is plenty capable.
The one I bought isn't being sold anymore on Amazon, but here is a link to a third party seller.
I found them on amazon for $20. These ones just clip right in, no adhesive or anything. Some of them didn't clip in as easy as others, but for $20 I can't complain. Wouldn't recommend going through a no touch car wash though. But so far they haven't caused an issue. :)

I believe he has the jw speaker evo 2's. I recently purchased the jw speaker evo J's and its incredible how nice they are after you get them adjusted. I honestly give them a 10/10. Only downside being the price, but you get what you pay for. The only difference I know of between the Evo 2's and the evo J's is that the evo J's come with a half halo on top of the headlight and they have a built in harness so there isnt any flickering. Here's a link to the J's on amazon
https://www.amazon.com/OLS-Headlight-Assembly-Davidson-Motorcycles/dp/B01LBYZ4I6?th=1&psc=1
Cheap amazon pair, we'll see how they hold up.
Definitely NOT plug and play if you want the halos powered via the parking lights, but I made sure to weather poof all connections/splices.
That's a pretty slick setup, I found them on Amazon but I'm wondering how hard they would be to fabricate.
What transmission cooler are you using? Did you bypass the in-radiator cooler, or do you have it plumbed in line? Im running this cooler from amazon and completely bypass the in radiator cooler. It barely fits behind the grill on my ZJ btw. I tow a lot and have never had it over heat.
What size tires are you running? Your comment about it downshifting going up hills makes me think that you have oversized tires and the gear ratios aren't right. That could be putting a big load on the transmission.

Amazon has cheap ones. No experience with them, but they are available.
those are awesome axes. i would also look at husvarna axes as they are made by wetterlings and gransfors bruks (they go beetween them). they dont come with as good as a finish (you might need to hone it a lil but i got my husky shaving sharp) they are around $60 ish dollars https://www.amazon.com/Husqvarna-26-Wooden-Multi-Purpose-Axe/dp/B004WJGXAQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1509407758&sr=8-1&keywords=husqvarna+axe+26 here it is on amazon
I picked up these mirror relocation brackets from Amazon a few years ago. Makes it much nicer if you have the doors off all the time to be able to still have mirrors. I keep mine on all the time and just move the mirror back on the right door as it's hard to see it otherwise.
Nice Jeep!
I Have some Chinese brand head lights that I got on amazon for like 137 they are now ~122 w/ the color changing halo option if your into that. Some ppl might recommend better name brand headlight but I’ve had these for 1yr and they have not let me down so far.

I got these a year ago and I really like them. Looks like they're out of stock but they're super bright and no condensation after a year.
The hot oil indicator is referring to your transmission oil, not your engine. You can install a transmission cooler to solve the problem.
2 different brands off amazon. Tried so hard to match, good enough. Bilstein 4600 Shocks: I just installed these, it feels like new again. I lot of people run the Bilstein 5100 Series which is meant for a 2"+ lift, but the 4600 are meant to be stock replacements (they'll support your levelling kit).

Impressed with quality/finish/weight and packing of this product. Didn’t want to drop big money on a 24 year old Jeep. Would recommend. Side note, master cylinder went on me day of install, Jeep life!
Uh, I'm no expert, but your Mini GPS locator will only report its location when
>TrackR's item tracking network will help you find it. When another TrackR user is within range of your lost item, you will receive a GPS update.
So never, because nobody is running the TrackR app. 5,000 downloads, ever.
Something like SPOT's Trace might be a little more effective. I know it's more costly and requires a subscription, but it actually does the job.
I have a TJ buddy that did the headlamp trim rings in-addition to the grille. Have you considered that?
I like plastidip myself, but have only done the wheels on my daily driver. People don't like plastidip (hence the downvotes on your submission) so plastidip what you want, just don't tell reddit about it lol

Here's some more about it: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2011/03/nhtsa-closes-investigation-into-jeep-wrangler-fuel-spill-problem-complaints-are-still-outstanding/index.htm
Last month, we updated readers on a problem with the Jeep Wrangler that the government was investigating. An undue number of current-generation Wrangler owners had complained to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that fuel pumps didn't shut off when refueling, leaving gasoline to spew back out of the filler neck when the tank was full.
Now NHTSA has announced that it is closing the investigation into the problem without issuing a recall. In response to NHTSA's announcement closing the investigation, Chrysler Corp., which builds the Wrangler, blames high levels of ethanol in the fuel used for the problem.
Jeep extended the warranty on the Wrangler fuel fillers, so if customers complain, the company will replace the fuel tank and filler mechanism.
We checked the database of complaints on NHTSA's website and found complaints dropped off somewhat in December last year, but the rate remains very high. More than one-third of complaints about the Wrangler are still related to fuel systems, a majority of which cited words such as "overflow," "overfill," and "spill."
If you have this problem, contact your local Jeep dealership to have the fix performed. For more information, contact Chrysler customer service at: 1-800-853-1403.
One thing I did was put 6.5"s in the sound bar. Helps out a lot and ungraded the fronts to 5.25" from the 4x6"s. The Fronts require a bracket which can be printed out or bought off ebay. the 6.5 will fit without modification.

Cut a hole in the back of the airbox, and put the new tube in through that, rather than the factory intake.

If anyone's from around West Michigan, there's a beautiful set of trails right here in the Grand River Basin. Many of the larger mud bogs require 35" or larger tires and a winch. My little 31"s did just fine on 80% of it.

Hey, no problem! As far as the Jeep bumper goes, Here is a set of build plans for it, feel free to share to the wiki or wherever it might benefit some people.
It's a company called Best choice products. The name sounds weird, and I think they make a little bit of everything, but it seems pretty solid.
https://www.quora.com/If-the-police-break-down-your-door-do-they-have-to-pay-for-it
It seems like you might get compensation from the police in this situation, depending on if it was just the window. If the only thing damaged was the window, I'd say just eat it, if there was (serious) damage to your vehicle caused by the prisoner, then I think it's probably an insurance claim. The police would obviously only compensate for what they did, and maybe not even that, depending. Interesting question.
edit: a word
Great point, my excuse is that it was early. Though I kept a log, I never put the log in Excel 'til just now. On average, I fill up every ten days with 11.8 gallons after driving 220 miles with an economy of 18.71 MPG. I'd estimate I drive about 80% city, 20% highway. Logs
hey there. I can't seem to figure out how to post this image as a comment so here is a link to a forum I found it on.
it's the gearing ratio chart for given tire size on the 2012 engine which is the same as what you have. it's pretty self explanatory but there are certainly choices and room for interpretation depending on your desired useage.
personally I have 35s on my auto rubicon. and I'm running 4.88s. on the chart that's well into the 'performance' end and I love it off road but to be honest I get pretty decent gas mileage on road as long as I keep it below 65 or 70. I'm getting 18+ mpg and even tho I'm up pretty high in the revs I think I chose the perfect gearing. I will probably put 37s on down the line and it will handle that just fine. when I was deciding what to go with I was on the fence between the 4.56 and the 4.88. for my uses I totally endorse the 4.88s.
hope this helps. also I'm guessing there's probably a wicked good bit about this on the jk FAQ on here so do look that up.

I have sent the following message to stickermule:
Hi.
There seems to be quite a bit of interest for the "Jeepit" logo (Snoo in the jeep with Jeepit beside him). I decided to write to you to ask if you could pretty please consider making some. A fellow r/jeep member posted this in the jeep subreddit, so here is a few ideas/examples: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yuxzmx20lk7fpwr/JqinPhbedL?lst
Thank you for your time and consideration.

I figured at the most it would cost $1000 so it seemed like a decent deal for 3.5k. Maybe this older one with only 83k miles would be better to look into? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1689993484387763
I believe these are the ones.
That being said, the finish on them faded and some rust started showing up. You can see it on the front fender in the first picture.
These are them just make sure they fit your Jeep.
I think that next time I remove a brake line, I'm going to plug it so it doesn't leak all over. Since I'm to lazy to find the exact threading of the line I may just buy an assorted tapered plug set from Amazon. It's 10 bucks.

I’ve installed backup cameras on several JKUs. Brandmotion makes a camera that can work with the stock touchscreen radio.
Running the wire requires some work and disassembly of the dash. Updating the radio is done by the ODB2 connection. I would expect to spend 2-3 hours if you’ve never taken the dash apart.
Their installation instructions could use some work, but their tech support responds quickly to questions. There are a few YouTube videos out there as well.

Honestly, they are just a generic Raptor light set from Amazon. See link below.
I didn't use the plug-and-play connector made for the Raptor. I cut the end off and wired it into Aux 4. I also cut off those screw tabs on each side and they fit snuggly into the grille, which I wanted. Then I 2-part epoxied them from the backside. They have held up so far and epoxy is easy to cut away and clean up if I don't want them or a custom version comes out.
I bought this one recently to hold my rooftop tent. Works great! Awesome thing is it comes with the front rack if you need it but don't have to use it. I actually used a third cross bar in the back for added support.
I love those head lamps, but as I get older…near 50. Just don’t provide the light I need when working on Jeep or out and about during trails or emergencies. I’ve switched to Liteband

Honestly, I suck at this and it still looks good IMHO. For $34 I used a little over one of four cans and that’s cause I messed up and had to peel off and reapply a couple times. Easily a one can job, but I plan to do my rims next so I bought four cans. It’s my first time using plasti-dip, but it’s so cool, just peel off and try again if you mess up. If you hate it, just peel off and go back to the silver. It’s literally idiot and mistake proof. All I can say is you can CLEARLY tell the spots I did right and the spots I rushed. Go slow and layer thin coats and keep the spray 12” away it will look smooth as satin… get rushed and too close with the spray and it ripples… BUT… since the rest of the interior is a mix of smooth and bumpy… I think it matches either way 🤷🏻♂️

I went with a set off Amazon. They're still made in China, but they're a little better grade than the really cheap ones.
The reviews were positive so I ordered them. They are well built and come with the harnesses to work with your jk.
They're designed after the jl lefs and they are nice and bright and have a sharp cutoff on low beams.
I bought a portable ViaAir .. Off Amazon. the kit I bought was under $200. This one will do.

Those angry eyes look like they're just regular headlight bezels. $20 and a few screws will get you fixed up in no time.
Other than that, I say hold off on the big mods and just play with it as is for a bit.
Do NOT get this kind: crappy cheap covers from Amazon because they have a foam backing that deteriorates and leaves a mess. I wanted purple but I think I’ll just have to sew my own or at the very least add a double layered lining to these dumb things.
For the price it's pretty decent. I got it for $275.00. It's a bit more expensive now.
I have argued that a Jeep Wrangler is a fantastic NYC vehicle. You have height, solid frame, bumpers that don’t give a f**k etc.
I recommend a lockbox

I was researching this recently and forums suggest you can use the 4door one just fine. this forum post is for the JK so I don't know if the same logic applies... and, while we're at it, this bag is what's been suggested for storing your seats folded if you're concerned about dust / spider gathering while stored in the garage.
I bought these in 2017. People have heard me since.
Should be able to see them in front of my radiators here. Left side grill slots.
I went with these ones:

They are, without a doubt, bright as heck and have been awesome. They also come with the adaptor cables so you'll be good to go. Best bang for your buck in my opinion.
The only thing I had to do was pull off the front grill which is super easy. Just take out the plastic rivets on the the top of the grill and pull it towards you. It's held in on the bottom with pressure clips so forcing it out and back in is what it takes. Let me know if you have any questions!
It's actually easier and faster to remove wheel locks with one of these than with the actual key.
I actually took my own advice and googled it. Found the link and they actually are made for jacks. I found them on Craigslist and thought they were random mounts. Here’s the Amazon link for ya brother! KSP is the brand. KSP
It’s decent. Fits the tray, doesn’t move. Pretty cheap price tag. Use my phone for speedo so perfect for me.
Pretty much anything that doesn't have electric brakes or need power from the Jeep to charge the battery. But anything beyond a utility trailer or a small tear drop will need them. I don't know a lot about the JL's wiring but you can always add the two wires for the brake controller and electric then tap into the 4 way for the other wires. The reverse light wire is rarely used.

As for towing capacity the owners manual is your best bet for that
I actually just ordered this kit Red Rock Hoist. You could probably put together the same thing for a little cheaper from your lock hardware store but not positive how easy it is to find those straps.
Edit: I almost went with a winch system but this is manual and I can still strip the whole Jeep and hoist the roof in about 15-20 minutes by myself.
