I don't know if there is a native way of doing this now, but last time I checked there wasn't any.
So, as a workaround, I use the app Sleep Timer. It works with NewPipe, YouTube, SoundCloud, and almost anything else.
You could try turning your router off for 15 minutes or so, and see if your ISP gives you a new IP address.
I run a VPN client on my router so all traffic goes through Mullvad. When I encounter a captcha (which rarely happen), I just restart the VPN client to get a different IP and the problem is solved.
They do allow, but this option is hidden. You need to install this app and then search for applications' settings or something like that. In fact miui has its own custom settings which you can see and default android settings where you can do it
Not entirely sure this would be a help but I found Automatag to be perfect for doing this, it usually can automatically find the tags for your file just by using the metadata, but if not you can manually input it and I believe it's a permanent change to the file's metadata as well. Could be wrong tho, here's a link:

Add this repository to your FDroid, then you need to uninstall your version and replace it with the one you'll find at FDroid, after that you'll always get the latest one.
Make sure you backup your settings first!
https://newpipe.net/FAQ/install/#download-signing-keys
>Maybe you installed the F-Droid version and want to update with an APK from GitHub or vice versa? Android does not allow app upgrades when the signing keys differ. This ensures the original developer has condoned the app.
>This means, you need to either get the APK from the same source, or backup your NewPipe database, uninstall and reinstall the new app.
You do need to create an account, and I believe there it a limit to what you can do for free, but you can convert a playlist here. Enjoy! And good luck!
If you download copyrighted content, regardless of the method, it's considered piracy. Whether or not you're okay with that is for you to deal with.
The download button in there for non-copyrighted content, and so users have the option.
If you're worried about it, you can check out royalty free music from sites like Libre.fm.
Apparently there's a copycat on Google Play Store full of ads and trackers:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newpipe.protube
Curious if original devs know about that
Yes, i did visit the page.
My device is running MIUI12 (A12) no root.
I don't know if this helps, but Tasker (automation app) has a trigger Music Track Changed
that returns all infos when a media notification changes.
The variable for the thumbnail %mt_art returns the correct thumbnail.
Here is the documentation of the said trigger

Probably just another app cannibalising Newpipe source code and publishing it as their work. Typically breaks as soon as YT makes any change that derails the extractor because the devs are too lazy to copz-and-paste the fixes the Newpipe team pushes. Here's another such cheap NP copy. I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot pole.

There are apks floating around too, if you are degoogled on Android.. The login part is web-based unlike stock YouTube / Vanced.
To be fair, I did exactly the same when it stopped working 😊
The app web address is
Something stopping the install in your browser's security settings??
-try a different browser, other than this, I am stumped, sorry..
The official fdroid repo is always very slow. It takes days or maybe a couple weeks for new versions to end up there, which is inadequate for newpipe's fast moving development cycle. Just use archive.newpipe.net. In case I wasn't clear, this works with the fdroid app. It will automatically recognize and install the updates for you.
You have to add the Repository to tour fdroid. You'll have to reinstall to switch source. Its worth doing though. Updates so much sooner then the normal fdroid repo.
I use music player on Android, that's the exact name of the app, the dev is Leopard V7 https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=media.bassbooster.audioplayer.musicplayer I think this link is the pro version but if you click the Leopard V7, his name, you'll be able to find the free version, it has ads but it's not too bad, it also has a ton of functions about customizing stuff
For PC just use VLC, it's great and plays everything

Takes a while to arrive. I think I just changed the file extension to .json if it wasn't already
if you go to their official site you can just download the apk from there which is just a direct link to the github download https://newpipe.net/
otherwise just go to https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/releases/latest
You can try adding NewPipe's own repo to f-Droid. This repo contains the latest version and will be updated in tandem with the github version. Here's how you can add it
No clients but:
Also I would highly suggest checking out the alternative fediverse at https://fediverse.party ! I use mastodon, pixelfed and peertube and I get much better content than on mainstream social media silos like twitter and instagram. The global timeline on mastodon is so much better than the filter bubbles on twitter.
There's not any reason for it I can think of where you wouldn't want to be using a VPN on youtube normally.
There's a reason you might not want to, though. I had to play around with the settings in my NordVPN app to get it to work. I think Googe/Youtube have some anti-bot features that means that youtube sometimes doesn't play nice with the VPN on default settings. I forget what exactly I did to fix the error, but before I did it I got a lot of unresolvable captchas.
Are you using a VPN when you're getting the captcha problem? Sites flag a lot of the VPN IP addresses, because they've been abused for malicious purposes or used by bots, banned and then they've changed IP and botted again etc. In the past when I used Private Internet Access and went to and did a search, it would always show a captcha I had to pass to get to the search results page, and rarely it happened on Newpipe too. I know it sounds obvious and you've probably tried it but I just thought I'd mention it just in case.
I used OpenVPN Connect with Mullvad for several years before they released their own client. There's also a Wireguard client available in the play store if you wouldn't want to use Mullvad's own client. The new official Mullvad client works great though. I use it when I'm not at home.
If you are somewhat familiar with command line, you can just install termux app on your Android phone, and then install youtube-dl inside the termux environment.
If you type "NewPipe" in the google play store, you get this app. It shares the same ui as NewPipe and has over 5milion downloads
Same here. Was this done on purpose? I believed it was a bug in my ROM. Do you have a link to the pr/issue where this was discussed?
I too searched for a setting and didn't find it but working around it using Rotation - Orientation Manager.
Edit: grammar
No, it is. But can't blame the app since it's in its basic stages. Let's hope DEVS release a better update soon that pleases everyone. Meanwhile, I'm Using this instead.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.a5ach.muetubepre
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mp3.video.downloader.galata
I downloaded this app and it's much better than the other one, in my opinion at least. I can download videos and convert it to audio without having to use a separate app. (If you do choose to download this app and download music, it won't work instantly). Steps to fix this: 1. Go to 3 dots and press "Downloads" 2. Once you click it, you should see something that says "My Queue". 3. Click the 3 dots on "My Queue" and press start.
Hope this helps! I'm not the best at giving instructions..
