No kidding!
But there are some ways to mitigate this risk:
I usually go with option 3 ;-)
Good brushes. Try both of these. First one to get inside, 2nd to get the surface.

I put one of these in my 997. Works perfectly for me, I’m no audiophile.
I went through this same kind of situation with my 996. Was going to gut the OEM head unit and do a double-din conversion and put in an Alpine touch screen unit. Would have had to mod the radio cavity and probably ended up spending a bit under $1k US.
Realized that money was way better spent elsewhere on the car (put it towards new tires) and I was not at all excited at the idea of modifying the radio cavity which would prevent the OEM setup from going back in. Alls I wanted was to be able to stream music from my phone via Bluetooth so I went with something similar to /u/Stan4Live and got this Anker Roav Bluetooth Car Adapter.
I'm all for hi-res audio, but that's what my home setup is for. When, I'm driving, I just want to be able to easily play my music for background. Plus, these transmitters have come really far along in the past decade, I was impressed with the clarity and ease of connectivity for just a $30 product.
Congrats btw, gorgeous car.
Can't help with the rip now that it's done, but Prince Lionheart 2 part seat savers will prevent this going forward. Have been using them in my Macan since day one...
Many colors options available too:
Get an external mic and mount it next to the license plate, you'll get really good sound out of it for a pretty small amount of money. I think it cost me around 100€ in total.
I toyed around with filming cars as well, and I was happy with the result. Here's a recording I did in summer last year, when I was given the keys to a 991.2 Targa 4S.
For reference, here's the microphone I used on Amazon (currently at 50€). Be aware that you'll need a microphone jack adapter for more recent GoPros, though.
I am trying to get to know Porsche better haha because i used to live and breathe Mercedes.
Judging by your flair, i’m assuming you can help me if this is a good price for it’s condition? If so, i would plan to make it into what i posted on this sub.
this looks like mint condition. But i too would buy something nicer for that price.
Edit- It’s a turbo 951, didn’t see that. Haha. here’s a 944 for around the same price
I'm the US, so currently the 300 series isn't coming. It might come as a new LX, but that's still years away most likely. I also hate that the new 300 has a liftgate instead of the splitgate which I love.
As for mods, I'm starting small for now. I have new 17" Icon Six Speed wheels ordered. Going with BFG KO2s in 285/70/17 as I can still fit it as a spare in the current location underneath. Then I'm considering either a Prospeed or Prinsu rack as I need more space to carry stuff camping/overlanding. Eventually, I might get sliders and new bumper with winch, but that's in the future. If I do all that, I'll probably get underbody protection. With all the added weight, I'll probably have to upgrade the suspension which is why I'll keep it at wheels/tires/rack for now. On the inside, I just have a GMRS radio ordered.
As for headlights, I've switched out the bulbs to these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08DFGDMXH/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
Use an octane booster, it will raise the octane rating.
The take it easy on the gas approach does not change the fact that you're using a lower rating octane and the ECU will retard the timing, reduce the performance and reduce MPG.
Yes, most dashcams use a 1 amp mini-USB power input, same as most car GPS units. I bought a long GPS power cord intended for hardwiring a GPS on Amazon and a fuse tap and tapped into an accessory fuse in the fuse box in the driver's kick panel. Ran the wire under the A-pillar trim and stuffed it under the headliner. I like this because it does not require cutting any factory wiring.
GPS hardwire kit similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Hardwire-Charger-StreetPilot-receiver/dp/B007WN4RL6

I had a 335i that was subject to the Takata recall and I had to park it until the replacement airbag arrived (literally, NO miles allowed). That translated into almost 6 months of the car not moving, so I was looking for a battery maintainer to use while it sat.
BMW has a similar offering to the Charge-O-Mat, with similar pricing, but both are made by CTEK. I just went and bought the CTEK MUS 4.3 for quite a bit less and it performed flawlessly. I now use it to maintain the battery on my Cayman in between drives.
At this point I have over 18 months of daily use on it and nary a hiccup. I even accidentally hooked up the terminals backwards a couple of weeks ago and it simply threw an error. I corrected my mistake and it started charging as normal.
It looks like Amazon has it on sale:

In case you actually have center locks and want some advice.. No you don't.
You can just get a 3/4" drive breaker bar and a torque adapter, like this https://www.amazon.com/Neiko-20743A-Digital-Adapter-Foot-Pound/dp/B009GLITFW
Small mod I wanted to share with the community. I have a 991.1 and a while ago installed the Rennline phone mount.
I decided I'd like to move away from the traditional charging using the lightening cable and move into the magnetic iPhone charger (MagSafe) so I bought this housing piece that fits perfectly on the mount I already installed.
Yeah it fits great! It’s this, in the 30” size

If you can remove it safely without tearing it you could apply this I had to do it to my wife’s suburban a couple years back.
The trick is to apply it without soaking the crap out of the fabric
there is an upgraded cap, tends to be a failure point causing the engine temps to be higher and possibly leak. I am new to this platform but something I read https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AGR9WO2/ref=ox\_sc\_act\_title\_1?smid=AGMOYHUQSN3AW&psc=1

Yep, it was a bulb for bulb swap. No can-bus adapter or warning messages. These are the ones I’m trying, no idea how long they will live, but they are definitely much brighter than the halogen.

Basically place them where your tires are once your front scrapes, and it will raise it up, and prevent the scrape :)
I think it was these. I definitely enjoy the additional size of the extensions vs. stock.

Yes, it really works. Used on my 2005 Lexus and 1 year later after applying the headlights still look fantastic. For $18, you're not going to find an easier way to immediately make a significant improvement.
Do you have an iPod plug? IIRC the 997.1 came with an option to have a 30-pin iPod connector and AUX port. The downside is, compared to the 997.2, it didn't have a USB port, which you'll need to power the Bluetooth unit. However, you can just get something to put in your cigarette lighter with a USB plug.
I use this module and works pretty well.

I’ll do you one better, here’s the link to the one I got: carlinkit it has worked awesome for me, but only works through the USB in the center console (not the glove box). It also helps to NOT connect to the car Bluetooth so that your phone is only trying to connect to the adapter once the car is on, rather than competing for car vs adapter.

I use meguiars waterless wash and wax for on-the-go touch ups. Leave it in the trunk with some microfibers. For example, if I want to get a pesky bug splat off, when parking.
My boyfriend has an album of the car up on Flickr. It's an absolutely thrilling experience.
Enjoy your test driving - that's how we initially chose between a Boxster S and a C2S Cab, back in 2007. :-)
Is AUX disabled (not visibly selectable)?
DISC > OPTIONS > "SET DISC / AUX" and enable the AUX. Then AUX should appear when you press SOURCE.
I needed to insert a CD to get the above "SET DISC / AUX" menu to appear originally.
A good option for economical smartphone integration is a Bluetooth receiver. Good quality ones will support aptX and LDAC
I used one similar to the above until recently when I installed an Android Auto kit.
I don't think so. I purchased it in 2001 for $32k. I sold it in 2016 for $56k. It was a cherry with only 37k miles on it, all original. The original sticker (I had it) on it was $49k.

Have you considered wiring it in fixed to the fuse box?
I have this issue in the uk. Very hard water, cars get covered in white spots straight after washing. Bought one of these….

like he said, its oem. panorama roof was an always an option on every cayenne, 955, 957 and 958.
Fair warning - it is gonna be expensive, like $1200 - but it looks perfect and fits flawlessly and there's nothing weird that needs to be done with splicing or a wiring harness or anything like that.
In the meantime I keep one of these plugged into the DC outlet in the passenger floor: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BMYQTYE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

And they've both been great and a nice work around
After some of the response I got, yes, I'll sell them for cost+shipping (anywhere in the US). $20 ( you obviously provide the Apple magsafe charger and the low-profile usb-c cigarette plug like this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08JVJMWQ5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )

I haven't tried with cups from fast food places yet. But it holds bottles of water just fine. I can close my lid when want. It's nice to have cup holders in this thing after 12 years. Hope you can find them some where.

Take a gander over to Amazon for these bad boys
We let our mutts run around the back seat of the misses forester but use this seat protector, not quite what you were looking for but stops them from falling on the floor
You may want to use both since it is a Porsche
I first checked with the dealership to have them replaced with black ones but they wanted something in the range of 2 grand for labor alone. Apparently it would have required the entire front to come off with all the sensors and stuff.
So the idea of wrapping came up. Never regretted doing this. No rock chips even after four years. I love how the 2nd gen Cayenne looks like a shark with an open mouth from the side, kinda like these shark bottle openers. Think the 3rd gen looks very dull compared to this. Sometimes I miss may Cay and the presence it had.
This fits my 996 perfectly. I’ve only had it since December, so I can’t say how long it will hold up, but the quality seems really nice.

There are high-tech versions now with 'lasers'. My wife would still clip her mirror on the door.
Not to get too philosphical, but it depends on your expectations. In my case I want carplay, with very sporadic access to the actual phone. Hanging cables piss me off.
Here is my journey so far:
Cup holders with long lightning cable for carplay. This was rather short lived since to actually have carplay you need to hook a dangling cable to the cup holder.
phone in my jacket with this doohickey for wireless carplay. It works, with certain glitches. The worst inconvinience is that this drains the phone's battery and you the phone is relatively inaccesible in your pocket.
magic mount on the place where the smokers package would go. I am expecting delivery today. I am still keeping the doohickey and running a short lightning cable, so when I need to charge I can actually do so.
Hopefully step 3 will be the destination of my ongoing quest.
Context: Had a 997.2 C4S

Got it off of Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QPFBVFL/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_WeyYDb04M99XF. Does the trick quite well! I also got a 5pc set of various pads. Since the pads it came with are quite cheap and tore very easily.
Took about two weeks before I was sick of plugging in for carplay functionality.
Found a less than reputable product online that so far has worked outstanding.

I had a coolstream duo and it sorta worked OK. The 30 pin cable was bad so the left channel would cut out.

I've since discovered that the NAV-TV 30 pin adapter that my car came with also had red/white RCA inputs and have replaced the 30 pin with a standard aux cable.
Ok guys here's the workaround...
If you're pulled over for not having a front plate in CA, you get a small ticket and have to fix it. You get a tow bar license plate mount (like you see where the cars have the plate off to the side) chuck that on, go to the police station, get it signed off by an officer, take off plate again.

Actually here's a link but you didn't hear it from me
What radio do you have? Added one of these to my 2006 with PCM2.1 and Bose and it works great. I did not have the CD changer but this would replace it. You just select it like you would the changer from the main unit. Even gives track info and handsfree. Look for Mr12Volt

I've been using iOttie versions for years with an 8+ and a Note 5, mounted to the glass, very near the A-pillar so it sits just ahead of the vent. Texas heat will make it fall about once a year, but just a quick clean up and back on for another year or so.

I’ll see if I can pull apart and verify this weekend. I’ve got a 2016 981 Boxster Black Edition. Comes with PDLS
Get yourself some 3M Automotive Attachment Tape. The bond is strong enough to keep the plate housing on there permanently and won't ruin the clearcoat.
Just soapy water (with this soap). I've used Sonax before, but it's a hassle because you have to rinse it off before it dries, and the red run-off stains concrete.

I’ve been wanting to pick one of these up for a while now. My buddy has one and loves it, I just can’t bring myself to spend that much cash to be that lazy. Washing a car with a foam cannon and then not having to worry about drying seems pretty awesome though!
How about this cut-away poster in a nice frame?
There are also plenty of other ideas on Etsy.
AMMO NYC wheel soap, wash mitt, wheel brushes, and lots of manual labor. I have a separate bucket just for wheels because I don't want that stuff getting anywhere near my paint when washing. When finished I coat with Armor all brake dust repellent. It actually works.
I use this little wheel brush as part of my kit: https://www.amazon.com/EZ-Detail-3001-BP-Brush-Mini/dp/B007UTN60K/ It's amazing for getting in all the nooks and crannies of Porsche wheels.

I have the backseat sling version, but Kurgo is quite sturdy.
I use Aerospace 303 . I've seen some stores carry them but I order mine online.
I use it for my interior leather and plastic bits with Microfiber towels and exterior with a few sprays into the wash bucket. I also apply on my door/window seals to prevent doors from freezing up during the winter*.
*I've heard some stories of this being true so take it with a grain of salt. I don't live in a city where it will freeze up too often, but I apply it during the winter anyways to just be safe.
These things work pretty well: https://www.amazon.com/Bovee-Wireless-Bluetooth-Interface-Integration/dp/B00B52LLJ6
As long as you have the iPod hookup, you're golden. It basically acts like your iPod/iPhone is plugged in.

Get a long extension and a ratchet and you should be able to take it off. Universal filter wrenches don't work if your filter housing is too tight.
On my cayenne 957, I'm using the Navtv aftermarket kit with Apple cable. I then add the cool stream duo adapter. http://www.amazon.com/CoolStream-Bluetooth-Receiver-accessories-Motorcycles/dp/B00GHUHMUS
I use the Belkin vent clip and it works well for me.
Does he use an Android phone? For that much money I would get him an Android smartwatch (1st gen Moto 360?) and have him download the Porsche Watch Face. Just infinitly more useful than a knickknack with a car brand slapped on it.

If you want something similar in an unsupported car, Torque uses a BLE ODB2 dongle for data and has a track recorder plugin.
