Anyway, if she's going to do it anyway she should make sure she books through a real hotel website and not through a link they've sent her and pays no money up front or gets them to send her payment in advance. She could use a card from somewhere like privacy.com that gives you new card numbers to use online that you can load with only how much money you want to spend so that you don't end up giving a website your real banking info.

Sorry to hear. I have one close friend who I think is Q adjacent. They are definitely very pro Trump. We communicate often via FaceTime and political discussion would quickly degrade to shouting. I would just hang up in the middle of him yelling.
We don't talk much politics. I effectively used Grey Rocking (before I ever heard of it) to reduce political discussion. Use Alexa to play Jeopardy etc on a regular basis via Facetime.
If I do have any Q in my life they don't express themselves to me. The older I get the less I care about politics. Figure 1,000 weeks is 20 years (I know it is 1,040). Sorry for the loss of your siblings, has to have taught you tomorrow is never guaranteed. Started telling people to do whatever brings you joy and it is OK to become guarded with your time.

Yup, I've heard the same many times over the years. It hasn't really gone away, it just died down. This is just a resurgence of the same kind of moral panic. Hysteria fueled by social instability.
There's a book similar to "Michelle Remembers" called "He Came to Set the Captives Free.". It's very similar. It's the harrowing tale of a woman who escaped satanism and lived to tell her story, confiding in the author. Her story was entirely discredited and the author lost her medical license for administrating demerol (a powerful sedative) to all her patients, whom she believed were demonically possessed.
She's still actively speaking about the horrors of satanic ritual abuse, although her audience is mostly very crazed Christians. I've met a lot of people who bought her story and even though it's wild, with stories of meeting the Pope (who is part of the worldwide satanic cabal) and journeying to Mecca (because Muslims worship satan) and fabrications.
I think in a way, this is all a part of Evangelical's desperate attempt to justify their Trump support - he HAS to be chosen by God for SOMETHING, even though he's accomplished virtually nothing for the Kingdom of God, so this fairy tale MUST be believed in.

QAnon co-opted several other pre-existing conspiracy theories. That's pretty much the bulk of the mythology, and part of why "it just sounds right". Then other conspiracy theory groups hooked on to the QAnon blimp as it took off, like the extra-fringe lizard people, flat-earthers, and contrail-watchers.
Anti-vaxxers and white separatists and anti-semites already had massive storied organized groups and they were happy to get a sparkly new super-spreader group like QAnon to get their philosophies more attention.

It can be hard to really evaluate a situation critically when we are in the middle of it. If one person needs are prioritised, that can happen over time, whereby they train you to do things their way by using ‘stonewalling’ and silent treatments. Just to consider And it doesn’t have to be used often, once or twice is effective for the other person to start modifying to the stonewallers preference and moods to avoid getting the silent treatment. Not using it often doesn’t mean they are not abusive it might mean you are walking on eggshells and modifying sufficiently, and losing yourself and who you are. I wish you the best, but please remember if you are losing your sense of self and who you, you are disadvantaged and not in a healthy relationship. I'm about two chapters into The Righteous Mind https://www.amazon.com/Righteous-Mind-Divided-Politics-Religion/dp/0307455777 and I think your psychiatrist is right on the money. You cannot reason with Qs. At least not right out the gate. They don't work like that. Nobody works like that but especially Qs. We are attached to a myth of ourselves as rational beings and its absolute nonsense. We feel then rationalize after the fact. Changing our minds is actually a process of reconditioning how we respond to different things in our social, informational, and material environment.
Something about Q or the wider world they are living in has triggered a profound fight or flight instinct in the Qs and you cannot reason them out of it until you calm them down, somehow. Which is likely to be an extended process of social change involving long, slow, subtle changes to the world around them to where they feel they have the security to start questioning and overturning truths that were previously held very deeply. Something has to change in their perception of the world to cause them to experience mistrust of Q coded information. In the long run there may be hope that a feeling of isolation and alienation from friends and family will make the experience of engaging with Q stuff too disheartening but there's always the risk that QAnon simply fills the void left by the alienated social network with a social network of loyal Qs.
I highly recommend both his original text on cult behavior (he is the father of the BITE method many of us are familiar with, which cults use to break down their followers) and the Cult of Trump one that he wrote more recently.

The subject of this movie got better. He had to go to the hospital for a couple of days (I forget why), and his wife unsubscribed him from all of the crazy emails and signed him up for ones that were more positive. When he came back he didn't even miss them, and a couple of months later he himself was like "wow, I was really crazy and mad all of the time".

I realize that won't work for a lot of people, but it seemed to work on him.

Take Back Your Life by Janja Lalich and Madeleine Tobias
I highly recommend this book not just to recovering Q people, but their families as well to help them understand and process what's happened to them.
If OP wouldn't mind adding this book to the resources list, I think it would be beneficial to many people as it was to me.
The advice to learn about cults is heartfelt but a teenage kid, no matter how rational, is not in a position to decode family members. Even adult children of cult followers can't do it because of the unchangeable family dynamic.
You want your dad to get perspective and feel a jolt? Let him catch you reading Winston Churchill's Memoirs of the Second World War. In it you'll see WWII was actually just a continuation of WW1 and the world is very far away from those kinds of conditions.
If you just read the "Purge" section of the Operation Hummingbird Wikipedia it'll be plain to see we ain't in that movie this time around. And your dad will love that you checked out history. Heck, he might try thinking his way out of this. But that's his responsibility, not yours.

I watched the Jordan Peterson documentary on Amazon last night. The Rise of Jordan Peterson. It was good but I found him to be a condescending jerk who often reaches beyond his expertise. If you look at the recomendations for people that liked the movie the suggestions are pretty far right. He attracts mostly males and I wonder if many come from the incel community.
I'm trained in work psychology is one area of knowledge is knowing who are subject matter experts and who aren't. He seems well read on politics but no he is not a subject matter expert. The documentary shows him teaching in the 90s in his personality class and he is intensely focused on ideology, which there is a link between personality and ideology but I would think most personality classes would just touch on it.
I don't think he encourages alt. right followers but he definetely doesn't discourage them.

Hello, Sorry to hear you have to deal with this. It sounds like you are going to be honest with your partner which is admirable.
There is an excellent book that more or less sheds light on a lot of vaccine hesitancy as it is seen today. A big part comes from a Doctor that has lost his license to practice, named Andrew Wakefield. He fraudulently issued a very false and skewed study in the 90s that essentially started the whole vaccines cause autism myth. He currently puts out films videos and media that spread more dissinformation. There is a good chance your partner may have seen these as they were spread like wildfire in anti-vax groups.
There was a journalist, named Brian Deer, that has testified under oath about all his findings about wakefield (and earned himself an honorary doctorate for his works) and wrote this: The Doctor who fooled the world
I know this probably won't help much, but at least you know who started much of the conspiracy, and it's very well documented how. I just think it good to know in case your partner ever decides to lower their guard you would have easily verifiable sources to offer.
What country would have benefited from losing a large portion of the population and a damaged economy just to make Trump look bad? Trump didn't need help looking bad.

Are your parents tech savvy? Because if not could you get access to their email and block them from getting certain newsletters while signing them up for more rational ones? And block foxnews from the TV? It’s what they did in the documentary The Brainwashing of my dad. It only works if they’re not tech savvy though. I’d at the least sign them up for a lot of more democratic newsletters by email so they get opposing views.

Exactly!! I posted elsewhere that my mom not only refuses to be vaxxed around me (even though I’m severely immunocompromised), but that she refused the last bday gift I’ll ever give her because she would need a negative PCR test and that’s “medical apartheid”. Yup Iver-fucking-mectin, that substance causing her to shit her pants regularly enough that it happened twice at my house in a one week visit. She also makes her own hydroxychloroquine. I won’t eat anything she makes where I haven’t witnessed every step of the process because I’m almost certain (as are my siblings) that she’s secretly adding ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine to her dishes. She believes she is 100% forever immune because bullshit bullshit bullshit not having the vaccine nano particles which are the only way to get Covid more than once bullshit bullshit whereas purists (forgetting the monoclonal antibodies she begged for) are protected for bullshit forever.
She’s not a dumb woman - she’s a cultist. I highly recommend “The Cult of Trump” by Stephen Hassan. It’s going to be my post-death gift to her along with a gold sprayed idol of her new God so she can worship him in a home shrine.
All cults are essentially the same in how they operate. Whether it's Q, Scientology, alternative medicine, astrology, new age "spirit science" shit or MLMs from essential oils to crypto/NFTs.
