Rapid Ring (made by Ring, not a third party)
Even Ring acknowledges their main app is bloated and slow.
Give it a try, fixed issues for me.
I left my switches and put a cover like this over it in case I need to manually cycle it for whatever reason.

Infuriating! I had the same issue but found Miss Muffet’s Revenge a few years ago. One spray of my cameras and house lights in the spring and there are no spiders for the year!! My biggest false trigger now is moths! Good luck!
I had my address visible in a previous post so this is a reupload.
I used some work boxes from Amazon (size 3.3”x2.3”x1.3”) linky poo to waterproof my Ring alarm contact sensors so I could use them on my two gates.
The boxes have these screw hole posts sticking up which prevented the sensor from sitting flush against the wall of the box. I clipped them off, stuck the sensor inside, screwed the box to the gate, screwed the magnet to the gate. Done.
There is an Android emulator called Bluestacks. It may be possible to install the Ring app inside Bluestacks and run it that way, though I don't know if notifications will pop up on the screen when you aren't in the Bluestacks window.
It was developed to run Android games but you can install pretty much any app that is in the app store.
Windows 11 will natively support Android apps so maybe when it is released the ring app will be able to be used and give notifications.
If the previous owner hasn't released the device from their account you'll have to contact them and ask them to release it, not Ring support.
You'll need a special screwdriver so you can open it up and scan the QR code to register it in the Ring app. https://www.amazon.com/Screwdriver-Replacement-TEKPREM-Doorbell-Doorbells/dp/B081Q11C2Z
I would strongly advise mounting the camera under the eaves, to avoid direct sun exposure to the camera. It's fine in the rain, but really, even avoiding direct rain will get you a clearer picture… The sun toasting your camera is a concern though.
You want the solar panel up there, but if you can avoid it, put the camera under the eaves.
If you absolutely can't do that… the gutter mount for the spotlight cam will work, if you provide your own 1/4-20 screw, and washer. https://www.amazon.com/Ring-Gutter-Mount-Spotlight-Battery/dp/B08C6FBF3V/
If that's something you can't do, you'll have to go with separate gutter mounts, which TBH, you can buy for the same price (combined) as the one I just linked.
I have the same problem at my apartment. I contacted Ring to see if they have any solutions or products and they said they would get back to me in a few days. This was back in July haha
Anyways, I went on Amazon and ordered these rubber plugs used for test tubes
There’s an assortment of sizes and you can measure the hole to make sure you have the correct one. They come in a pair so you can use it on both ends.
I also used this weather proof sealant on both ends to ensure air doesn’t bleed through. Since it’s winter, no cold air has bled through.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/DAP-Ultra-Clear-5-oz-All-Purpose-Waterproof-Sealant-18387/306641586
It’s frustrating and I’m kind of disappointed Ring support hasn’t called me back but this is seems to be working fine.
It doesn’t look the best either but it works. I’m renting this apartment so it doesn’t bother me what it looks like.
Let me know if you want me to post pics
No, they will still recommend a higher one as soon as you have any issues. I had the 10VA at first and it seemed to work fine, but eventually it seems it affects the internals of the unit causing issues.
I'd save the headache and get a new one. This is the one I got on Amazon for $24: NuTone C907 16V, 30VA Transformer
It replaced my existing one with little effort.
Re-wiring would be expensive but definitely the neatest option. You could use the angle kits from Ring or a third party on Amazon, to angle it more towards the front. The Ring camera has a pretty wide angle lens so it wouldn't take much to still get the full view, but it wouldn't look as nice.
Here's a link for an example, the 55 degrees it allows would be more than enough. https://www.amazon.com/Adjustable-Compatible-Replacement-Adjustment-Screwdriver/dp/B078RD43F5/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1537817990&sr=8-3&keywords=ring+angle
Check your doorbell transformer. We had a 16V 10VA when I first installed the Ring Pro and was getting video issues and the mechanical bell would barely ding (not full ding dong; we have 2 mechanical bells).
Replaced the transformer with a 16V 30VA (from Amazon) and it's all good now.
EDIT: Adding link to the transformer I ordered and installed: https://www.amazon.com/NuTone-C907-16V-30VA-Transformer/dp/B001POBN92/
I had a similar problem. Get a spacer - I got some cheap angled ones from Amazon but you can get flat ones too that push the doorbell further from the wall, which should keep the IR from glaring off the brick. Here's an example picture and the ones I bought.
Edit: also should note that once I angled mine, the IR isn't even needed anymore because the porch light is bright enough, when it is on.

Bought a Ring Doorbell Pro in March of this year.
Bought and used this mount (all 3 plates) and I have had zero issues.
If you have an Android TV, you can use an app like Notifications for Android TV to display the text of the notification. Maybe similar apps for other smart TV platforms.
The app is well done, and can also display images from notifications...which would be really nice if Ring provided notification images like many, if not most, other doorbell/camera systems do.

PiHole is a free project. You can put it on a Raspberry Pi (Thus the name) or install it on any modern Linux system. It basically is an ad blocker for any device on your network. You can also blacklist any other domains that you don't want allowed.
It's pretty easy to set up, doesn't use a ton of resources and does a pretty good job.
You can go to https://ifttt.com/ring and suggest an 'alarm arm' action, no idea who those requests go to, but enough should get the right peoples attention.
Feel free to suggest alarm sensor triggers too!! Ie. Open the door and all the lights come on.
90 feet is close enough that you should be able to throw WiFi out there without digging up the yard. These can be used outdoors:

I got a Deco mesh (the model is M4), it’s a set of routers. Worth every penny!
Mesh routers systems work by creating access points throughout the space. This lets you connect a lot more devices over a much larger area. The cost is fairly minimal (IMO) and it does vastly improve signal strength. 3 m4’s cover my house and both front and back yard perfectly (I’m in a suburb like neighborhood in the prairies, so decent sized yards), they’re rates for 5000sqft/3-5 bedroom house with up to 100 devices (which I think is very accurate).
This is the Amazon Canada listing for the exact set I bought

Any kind of tape will pull paint up, so be aware of that. For tapes, 3M VHB tape is rock solid, but very expensive. Project Farm on YouTube did a mounting tape review a while back and a brand called LLPT did very good and was very reasonably priced. I actually bought that brand because of it and it was worked great indoors and out. This is the one I got: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07WFN1QG4
Hard to tell from the pic, but is that a 6V transformer? That might be your issue, they need a higher output transformer (I think they recommend at least 16V). I'm using a 24V (40VA) and my Ring doorbell is working great. Bought it on Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PWPRM86/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Following up on this - tried it, and can confirm it works fine with the base station; the trick is to get a USB charger that can deliver 12W to the port (as /u/ivovic called out the need for). I bought these cables, along with an Anker Quick Charge 3.0, and I'm using it to power four different 5V devices in my closet - a huge savings of power strip real estate and waste heat.
Found this thing on Amazon I’ll be using. 16.5V 40VA Burglar Alarm Systems and Doorbell Transformer,16.5V plug in transformer Compatible with All Versions of Doorbell ,Most Security Panels Including Honeywell Ademco, DSC, ETC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088PN111N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_X3MW5532W4AXTW1VBMF9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Well well that maybe right 99% of the power wire is made for in wall use. Just the last 1% is the 12V to 5v USB transformer from Amazon. Luckily it all accessible right right behind the keypad.

Mine was this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQY88I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
That's why my wires were loose.
I can relate to the half ding on the mechanical bell (I was also having some video issues when Doorbell was rung). I also have the Doorbell Pro.
I ended up changing the doorbell transformer from the 16V 10VA to a 16V 30VA (NuTone C907 16V, 30VA Transformer - Amazon).
This fixed the mechanical bell (it now fully rings) and cleared up the video issues.
Either get this or the Amazon 8 piece for $188. The difference is that costco has 6 door sensors and 1 motion, while Amazon has 2 motion and 3 door.
There's also the 1 motion 1 door sensor kit on amazon for $159, down from the usual $200, but unless you live in an apartment I wouldn't recommend it.
There are a lot of products on amazon and it’s just really overwhelming and the reviews don’t really answer my questions. I have the ring 1.
I was looking at this one but I’m not sure if it will work in my scenario.
First off, people should not tighten those screws that tight. They don't need to be torqued to 85 lbs. They just need to be snug. But anyways, your best bet is a screw extractor. Somebody posted a pretty nifty one from Amazon here recently. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Vastar-Damaged-Remover-Extractor-Precision/dp/B076X4H5ZC/ref=mp_s_a_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1544832940&sr=8-17&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=screw+extractor Contact support and they will send you some more screws.
Pro tip: you don't need anything past the SKU for Amazon links
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002YUI7E/
Helps with fakespot.com links as well when you go to paste them
And on topic, that's a great solution.
Hi there, there is a relatively simple solution to this providing you can get power to the area near the door bell. Use an infrared flood light. I did a quick search on Amazon and found this one for $27:

I install CCTV cameras for a living and have installed several Ring bells. I had one situation exactly as you describe with no motion detection at night. I installed one similar to this and it was solved instantly.
It does require a 12 volt supply (this unit comes with the PSU), so you would have to wire back from the IR flood to a power outlet and install a transformer to step down the voltage. Easy job to do though!
You don't need the fancy box for outdoors. Just a basic single gang metal box like this example from Amazon would work, assuming you can get it in and out. If not, you could remove the bracket and screw through the box itself into the stud. But if you can get it in there with the bracket, that would be better. You can find these at most any home center as well. You can attach the transformer to the box first to see how big the hole in the drywall/plaster will need to be, then you can enlarge it before getting the old one out allowing you extra room to maneuver.
You may not need to do drywall work, and avoided it if you can. The best option depends on what's back there. If there is significant space behind the wood, you could drill a large (1in) hole, and try to grab the wires with something like this, then patch the original wood hole. This may require extending the wires if they don't have enough slack; give them a light tug to find out. Since they are low energy, you can just twist and tape if you need to add wire. Then mount the doorbell over the 1in hole. Otherwise, surface mount. It still has a battery so if someone cuts it you'll still record them, if you're uncomfortable with this, a handyman could easily do it for a small fee.
I had a similar issue with it picking up cars so I put one of those tilted wedge mounts on with it angled down a bit more and it made a big difference
I'd agree with the other poster that it could be easily stolen although most would probably assume it was screwed in if they couldn't see the adhesive.
Also don't know if ring would cover a replacement in the event of a theft if it wasn't screwed in.
Maybe try this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073XRDYF4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_wSrzFbZ998E8X
Not sure how good it would be for exterior but it works great inside for photos and can be easily removed when you move.
I used this from Amazon when I got my SUC. Hope this helps. It's cheap but it's cheap. lol

They have been discontinued, but there is no end-of-life announcement. They are very reliable and include 24 hours of recording for free.
Typically just an audio mix up. Back in the day I had a stereo that would occasionally pick up CB radio and an analog telrphone that had perfect audio from a Christian radio station.
Your best bet would be to try to eliminate the interference. Whatever device picked up the signal, take the electrical cord and wrap it around and through a toroid choke core.

I had a 30VA transformer and the message explicitly said that I can't enable "package alerts" and recommended that I upgrade my transformer and I got this and now I get those alerts too.
Pro version or battery version?
Asking as Pro versions need a different transformer than the battery versions.
One of these kinds of transformers will work fine with a battery based Ring Doorbell.
You’ll need one with a bit more oomph more like this for a Ring Pro.
Have a look at Amcrest AD410, all local storage to the SD card, can also be put on a NAS with there RTSP feed if wanted.
yeah i was gonna go for the echo dot deal but I ended up getting echo dot for $1 a few days ago, so the value of echo dot plummeted for me. I bet you can snatch one up on ebay for like $25.
anytime you can avoid battery or solar, you will see a world of difference

That’s a good point I guess I do reboot for firmware updates, I do know that one of the major benefits of wifi6 is not the speed but how it handles many devices at once even ones that are on 2.4.

I recently discovered little clips that hook under that vinyl seam and they have a little screw on them to attach things too. They are surprisingly solid. I have ring cameras mounted outside like this. I made a clear acrylic plate that the camera mounts to, and the plate mounts to 4 clips.

ring make this which also lets you install on different size junction boxes as well as being able to plug it in - https://www.amazon.com/Ring-Plug-Mount-Floodlight-Cams/dp/B093BBBM3T/ - if it still won't fit you could just put an outdoor receptacle on the box and plug it into it with the same kit.
Yes, both of my stick up cam say 3rd gen.... so I can just buy this $40 adapter from Amazon? (seem kind of pricey, but better than getting up on a ladder every few months to change the battery, right? :) )
https://www.amazon.com/Indoor-Outdoor-Power-Adapter-Stick/dp/B07W1WVXFQ
I ordered this from Amazon in March this year and my battery has been above 95% ever since.
I'm in the UK so sunlight can be limited in the winter but it's still hanging in there at the moment.

You need to get a 24V AC transformer - something between 20-30VA, something like this - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Trasformatore-isolamento-VN318200-secondaria-alimentare/dp/B00F4QFH4O/ - the ring transformer has some sort of fuse in it that trips as soon as you try to ring the doorbell.
Update! Found on Amazon: wouldn't let me change original reply.
I bought this in the summer which was around £210. the indoor cam is usually included for free.
Also two floodlight cam plus for £139 each (pro version is always out of stock in UK)
and i am now planning to add a outdoor siren
Ring sells 1/2" spacers for this issue:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0923CLBN5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought these wired window sensor drilled a hole for the recessed magnet and place the wireless ring sensor on the door.
I had a DSC system that I removed, and its power was 16v AC. I ended up tossing that, and just getting a 3a 5v USB charging block as I wasn't reusing any of the contacts etc. I tied all three keypad runs to that using these.
At the keypad itself, I bought these to convert the existing pair of wires to a micro USB. These fit the ring keypads fine without any shaving.
Looks like a decent deal, but make sure to compare with the other multi-piece packages on Amazon. There are multiple ones that have slightly different hardware pieces included. For example this one is a bit cheaper and instead of the camera, you get a second keypad and you get a second motion detector instead of the Smoke/CO2 listener.
Also, keep in mind that Amazon is having their 2nd Prime Day next week and Ring pretty much always has deals then.
I setup the routine in the Alexa App.
I use Kasa Smart Switches:
Any smartswitch will work as long as it works with alexa.
If you have cameras, check this:: https://forums.att.com/conversations/device-troubleshooting/repurposing-digital-life-camera/5deff480bad5f2f6065cc3e0
Unfortunately all 433 MHz devices, contact sensors, glass breaks, take over kits, and motion sensors and all 900 MHz devices smoke/ heat sensors, garage door controller are not transferred but the smoke, heat, and co detectors will work as stand alone devices.
Anything zwave, thermostat, door locks, water sensors, etc can be connected to a zwave controller <https://www.amazon.com/Aeotec-SmartThings-Gateway-Compatible-Assistant/dp/B08TWDNQ5Q> and that can be connected to ring alarm
Awesome. This is all super foreign to me but I am game to figure it out. Could you guide me through what wires go where from the transformer to the power supply and then where the motion sensors specifcially tie into? From there I assume wires will go to the retrofit kit? Do you have the all motion sensors going to zone or separate zones? Any issues with heat etc?
I'm planning on buying this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B088PN111N/ref=sw\_img\_1?smid=A2SLNSCOB1BM4C&psc=1
It's all thanks to ADT that it's not available. Check out this news article for more info. If you know anyone in the UK, they could ship you one, they still sell it there.
I did this. My house was wired for motion sensors but I actually didn't have any so I added them. This meant I could not re-use the old security board for power. In order to power the motion sensors, I purchased one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PB0VEQS
You just need a 16.5VAC Transformer (there are a few recommended on the Amazon page) to power the board. Then the rest is just wiring. Connect all the cameras to the terminals on this board for power, and run the open/close alarm circuit to the retrofit kit.
One thing to note: Ring treats the retrofit sensors closer to door/window sensors. Not a big deal since they can still trigger an alarm, but your event logs will be spammed with motion logs, unfortunately.
The base model says it offers advanced detection: https://www.amazon.com/Ring-Video-Doorbell-Wired/dp/B08CKHPP52/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=P6Yn6&content-id=amzn1.sym.8cf3b8ef-6a74-45dc-9f0d-6409eb523603&pf_rd_p=8cf3b8ef-6a74-45dc-9f0d-6409eb523603&pf_rd_r=Y48ZNJ43S19XE7G9RM98&pd...
Which you can read about here: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360042728431-Advanced-Motion-Detection-in-Ring-Devices
So you could setup person detection and setup specific zones for motion alerts.
I don't know if its the only solution, but I use Home Assistant to integrate all my devices. https://www.home-assistant.io/
Something like https://ifttt.com/ likely could do this as well, albeit not quite as much granular control.
had these for about a 1.5 years now on solar. no issues.
$2 on Amazon or Ring (no joke) and you can get the Spare Parts Kit for any doorbell which also includes the specific security screwdrivers/bits. Here's the one for your doorbell.
So the issue I have been having with iOS app is if I'm using NordVPN, it will never connect, which I though it used to.. Even for when I'm connected to my home wifi and have Nord auo-pause, won't connect.. The second I pause/disconnect my NordVPN connection Ring works just fine.
You might want to do a combo setup like a wedge kit against the vinyl, then installing an aftermarket brand Angle mount that will line up properly like this one. You'll need to make sure what you use matches your model, but hopefully this helps.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NAO4B9Z

This is the one ^^ I used above. I have many of them - it's a on-off switch.
When you pair it - make sure you pair it under ring app --> setup a device --> secuirty --> works with ring (at the very bottom). There's a "works with ring" in the main section - no not that one! Must be paired under the ring security part.

YOu've sucessfully paired it when you can switch it on and off under the ring alarm section in the app - each of these plugs will show below keypad list in a new section called "lights"
same! on some cameras ive installed a switch (out now sight/hidden).....
the switch is easier than unplugging (and I keep all my cameras on APC UPS' to eliminate cameras going off line if power is lost)....I plug the switch into the protected outlet and the camera into the switch....this is just a connivence to prevent someone from listening and having to delete all the recordings (even when alerts are off).

Thanks, I think this will solve my problem. I have a wire that runs directly from my basement to the doorbell. I'll just take it off there, plug this in and connect it up.

Hi! Let me see if I can help. IFTTT is a web service that connects different services using a conditional string: If This Then That (that's where the acronym comes from). You can use it for automations like "If I post a picture to Twitter, Then post it to Instagram". And you can use it to connect services like Alexa, Ring, Blink, etc.
So, the first thing you need to do is activate the Ring skill for Alexa (I'm assuming that you already have an Alexa account). Then, create an IFTTT account (ifttt.com) and connect that account to the services you want to use (in this case, Blink and Alexa - you don't need to connect Ring in this case because Ring will communicate only with Alexa).
Then, follow the directions I put as an edit on my orginal post.
The result is: User sets Ring as Armed > Ring triggers an Alexa action (say phrase) > IFTTT detects that Alexa action and triggers Blink > Blink is automatically set as Armed
Has anyone used the Nest Protect Smoke/Co alarms with IFTTT to integrate the alarms with monitoring services such as Noonlight? More info here: https://ifttt.com/nest_protect.
Thanks in advance for your feedback!
You might be able to do it with IFTTT. For example, you can use this recipe to get a text when your doorbell senses motion.

5-8 days isn’t normal at all btw, mine go for 3-4 months in the summer, or 2-3 in the wintermonths.
For your question;Amazon has a nice gutter-mounting option. Otherwise it’s probably 3M outdoor brick wall tape, but I wouldn’t trust that.
For those who are still looking - I finally found some batteries that are right-sized. Both of these work for me:

Ring was more than happy to replace the lights for me because they don't sell the batteries nor can they send out replacement batteries; however, the waiting period for the replacement units was > 3 weeks.

There is an echo show that is flat and is meant to mount on walls. Could be too big to mount on the door, but maybe you can mount on the wall that is close to the door?
https://www.amazon.com/echo-show-15-smart-display-with-alexa/dp/B08MQLDFF6
Depends on how extended of a power outage you're planning for - Ring claims that the built-in battery can power the unit for up to 24 hours, so if you're not worried about multi-day outages, I don't think you'd need to augment it. Putting a USB battery in between (something like this) would certainly extend that time substantially, but I couldn't say exactly for how long without knowing what the base station's normal draw is.
This goes on the door so you don’t have to make any holes.

Do you have a zwave hub? If you do then you can buy these.
Aeotec now produces all the sensors that Samsung smartthings used to make. I also use the leak sensors near all my plumbing fixtures and if it detects any water it will send a signal to the hub which will tell my dome valve to shutoff all the water in the house.
Doesn't seem like there's a point for this.
Same for the non-flying version:

I mean, I guess if you hear a bump in the house at 3AM or something? Think it's funny to traumatize pets or children?
Are you sure about using the existing chime? The Amazon page says:
--To hear audio notifications in your home pair with a Ring Chime or a compatible Alexa-enabled device. Once Ring Video Doorbell Pro 2 is installed, your existing doorbell chime will no longer sound.

It doesn't list the power kit under what's included in the box either. There's so much conflicting information about this and I swear I've seen YouTube videos where it's working with the existing chime. Is this some tactic by Ring to make you think you have to buy their plug in chime, or does it work with some chimes and not others?
They sell mounting plate to use Doorbell 1 mount for $2. I didn't know and drilled extra holes😂

But you have to know how to wire
I have several cameras in the woods behind my house. They are Ring solar powered spotlight cameras with the furthest about 480-500ft away from the house. I use this to shoot the wifi signal through the trees. The one that is ~500ft away receives/sends a marginal signal but it works well enough most of the time. I need to tune the antennae direction a bit more now that I’ve cut down some of the low lying brush and weed trees that were in the line of sight.
