Not sure if you've played Geoguessr before but for a split second I was thinking how cool it would be to have a LOTRO version of this.
Also, as having recently run through a Guardian to cap on Treebeard, this looks very much like NE Angmar.
You can still get the samwise gamgee pack off amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Samwise-Download/dp/B00EUHVOW2?th=1 it gives you: The Bay Steed & Riding Skill, 4th Inventory Bag, Currency Cap Removal.
its great when you've just started the game and works for all your toons now and in the future.
Almost anything will play Lotro pretty well.
I'd just watch https://slickdeals.net/ for something with discrete graphics and an SSD to show up at a good price. A nice display is also good; What is it nowadays, OLED or something with the nice colors...
Try: https://slickdeals.net/deals/laptop/ You may have to go through a few pages of deals...
Macs are pretty nice, great display, but some folks have reported lotro crashing problems.
Hey man I'm on game ranger, let me know If you ever want to play! I got a few buddies that play as well.. When you get internet you should install this mod. Play the erabor map. It looks like it's in dx11. The units look smoother but the map looks amazing, they did a great job!

Welcome to LoTRO! :)
It is free to play, but you will run out of quests at around level 35. The game is built around quest and expansion packs, which unlock new region quests but not the region, you are completely free to go wherever you want in Middle Earth, but you won't be able to do the quests there unless you buy the region.
With that said, it is possible to not spend any real money and get to end game with the help of the deed system. There are certain deeds in every region that you can complete; for example: kill 60 bandits in Breelands. When you complete the deed, you are rewarded Turbine Points, which you can spend in the in-game store to buy any region or expansion you want!
So with a bit (alot) of grinding you can get everything you need. :) In my opinion the best option would be to pay for a month of VIP, that will unlock all the neccesary treats you need, like fast traveling, and you can keep them at the end of the month. You can check the VIP benefits here: http://www.lotro.com/en/game/vip
The best thing about MMOs is that you learn as you go, so don't worry about that! If you'll have any questions about the game there is an ingame World chat channel where you can get advice, or as the name suggest in the Advice channel!
I would recommend the server Laurelin if you are into roleplaying, it has a really nice and mature community. If you still have any questions, don't hesitate to write! Best of luck! :)
The wallet is a damn good start.
Anything that affects all characters is another one. Inventory spots are good. Not only for the immediate benefit of being able to lug around more stuff but you can always roll mule toons to save on buying bank space.
Having a stash of mithril coins on hand (I don't usually keep more than 50-100) can help because they're big time-savers. You can use them to "force unlock" a travel point, resurrect, reset (and increase) task limits, and a bunch of other miscellaneous stuff.
Also, check the store sales every week (http://www.lotro.com/en/lotrostoresale). There's always a freebie that changes I think on Thursdays. Buffs and potions are common but there's other stuff as well.
If you have a spare $10, go to Amazon and purchase the Samwise Gamgee starter pack - it's EXTREMELY helpful in these situations for a F2P/Preferred player.
Currently, the best way to use an AMD GPU on Ubuntu is with Mesa, the FOSS driver. The version in the current Ubuntu repos is quite recent but it's possible to update it through a PPA (the best would be Padoka's stable PPA. It should be usable with Linux Mint as the distro is derived from Ubuntu LTS as long as you use the right version of the repo but I haven't tried, don't take my word for granted.
The old proprietary driver (Catalyst/fglrx) has been discontinued just before the release of Ubuntu 16.04 and can't be used on current distros (it's tied to a specific version of the kernel and X server, so don't even try to install it, it'll break everything). AMD has since released a new proprietary driver, AMDGPU-PRO, but it has to be installed and updated manually and is compatible only with specific recent GPU generations.
You could play through something like Shadow or on Azure with Parsec(or just Parsec if you have a gaming PC, but just want to play on a tablet or whatever too), but no way to install the game natively on Android or iOS.
Hi /u/EZ8427, I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with the game.

After doing some research on this, it looks like this is more than likely a network-related issue, and you were right to look at the firewalls/antivirus. However, I see that a lot of people on University WiFi have this issue. Are you on a non-residential WiFi? If you're using a network that is "not your own," it's possible that the administrator has set up certain blocks that you may be unaware of.

I've seen people say not to use the Steam launcher, that there have been major problems with that, so lets bypass that entirely.

Click on your Windows Key or open up your start menu, type in UAC, and bring up the User Account Control. Go ahead and bring that slider all the way down (you can put it back up if it's up there currently, after you install).

Uninstall LotRO again. Make sure you've fully restarted after you uninstall.

Open up your browser's settings and delete all Temporary Internet Files and Cookies. Redownload the client from http://www.lotro.com/

Have you tried running the installer .exe file as Administrator? If not, please give that a go.

Another thing to try if the above doesn't work is to delete the turbinelauncher.exe, and copy the version that's in the backup folder back to where you deleted the above, and run it again.

These are the only things that I could really put together for you to try, but I certainly hope something does the trick for you! Best wishes!
http://www.lotro.com/en/lotrostoresale hasn't refreshed its sales for the week yet, I wouldn't be so quick to say that the expansions aren't going on sale (unless there was a announcement on the forum about it I missed)
There are two things that made me a little sceptical;
>buying the Helm's Deep expansion for..Well, it was over $100
The most it has ever been was $39.99 - $59.99, depending on the edition.
>I was explaining the situation to others players and Turbine staff alike, only I was suspended on BOTH ACCOUNTS after being "Identified", so to speak.
> I literally had no animosity towards Turbine, and was only seeking their help.
>The phone support guy was a complete jerk and should have been fired or at least reprimanded.
>After punching a hole in my laptop
You admit being the type of person who destroys their own property when angry, but we are to believe that all of your interactions on the forum, e-mail and telephone were cordial, even though you claim the support representative should have been fired? (with no details on what it was that made him a complete jerk - it's amazing how refusing to do something against the rules can make you the bad guy).
Sure, Turbine might have been over-zealous in the initial banning, or any of the follow up, but the simple fact is that we have half a story with obvious factual errors.
Technically, Macros are a violation of the Code of Conduct. (Item 18) http://www.lotro.com/en/content/lord-rings-online-code-conduct
> You may not create, post, use or distribute any utilities, emulators or other third party software tools without the express written permission of Turbine (including, without limitation, macroing programs, botting programs, server emulators, client hacks, map hacks, and data gathering utilities).
That said, the restrictions are not heavily enforced unless they become obvious - mainly to other players who then complain to the Game Masters about their use.
There many players who use keyboards like the Logitech G105, but they tend to stick with using them to spam emotes rather than for combat actions, mainly for the timing reasons mentioned by Fredelas.
~~Today, that is the 16th, in fact. People have been talking about the 18th, not sure where that came from.~~
~~The update is scheduled to begin in half an hour or so, I guess it will be live after that.~~
Never mind, I'm wrong. Although I'm blaming Turbine, mostly.
Region Transfer
Existing characters on EU and US worlds will have a data conflict moving to a different region, so we are only able to support transfers of characters from an EU world to another EU world and US to US. You will note that we have now labeled all worlds on the launcher with their region. However, there is no restrictions on where you might start a NEW character and play based on your physical location, so feel free to try out new worlds in which ever region you feel most comfortable.

The LOTRO store has sales and a free item every week. I'd recommend playing for a few weeks and seeing if you need anything that comes on sale instead of buying something now. Watching the store sales is also a nice introduction to the store and items you might not know you want.
In general, though, I think it's worth unlocking at least one more Virtue Trait Slot (they go on sale fairly often), extra storage space, and another Milestone skill.
As for quest packs, I don't know if you'll need any. Most people talk about leveling up to get to Moria, but the Mithril Edition has everything you need for that. You just go from Lone Lands to Trollshaws to Eregion to Moria, then you'll also get Lothlorien right after Moria.
It is a bit confusing. This page details what is included in each quest pack including the expansion ones.
Notice that the Moria quest pack includes the Moria instances. The Moria expansion has quests, instances as well but also includes the Warden and Runekeeper classes, two extra characters slots per server and a trait cap unlock. You can purchase these items without buying the full Moria expansion. I found it cheaper to get the Warden and Runekeeper classes on sale.
The Isengard expansion quest pack does NOT include the Isengard instances. There is a separate pack for the instances. I believe this is how Riders of Rohan will be sold when it hits the in game store as well.
Turbine have now confirmed the breach and told everyone to change their password:
http://www.lotro.com/news/latestnews/1497
“Recently, we were made aware of an issue with the security of our LOTRO community web applications. Protecting player accounts is a top priority and we take any potential issues seriously. As a result, we closed all of our forums as we investigate the situation. We are continuing to investigate and the forums will not reopen until this work is complete.
As an additional precaution we recommend that all players change their passwords by visiting http://myaccount.turbine.com. Please remember to use unique, hard-to guess passwords that are not associated with other online services or sites, and always look for and report unusual activity in your account to Turbine customer support.”
I understand what you're saying, even if I don't agree with all of it. The nice thing about LOTRO (and DDO too) is that they've kept their subscription option. If you have the money available, you can still subscribe to the game and get all the pre-expansion content as if it were a typical MMO. I think they even have sales going on right now, offering $10/month for 3 or 6 month periods or $99/year.
Yes, the presence of the LOTRO store button is annoying, but if you're VIP, the game is really like any other MMO, just with a completely optional micro-transaction system added on top that gives few if any in-game benefits. And if you ever can't afford to keep subscribing, you can drop down and play whatever content is either f2p or you've purchased (most likely the expansions).
Personally, I'm VIP and I like the way Turbine's done f2p. Its much more of a hybrid model than traditional f2p games, as you can still subscribe and get the content the way you used to. If it helps, think of f2p as an extended trial. Yes, it is completely possible to reach 65 without paying anything, but you'll be grinding skirmishes an insane amount to do so.
Assuming you have the windows drivers set up for the controller(by the sounds of it you do), I used to use a program called JoyToKey to remap gamepad buttons/analog stick/whatever to keyboard and mouse functions. Now that I've looked into it again it seems to have gone Shareware, and I can't find a link to the last free version.
I did some digging and found a post elsewhere on reddit for a program called AntiMicro, it's very user friendly and seems like it can do just as much as JoyToKey could, i'll be using AntiMicro from now on whenever I need to.
That all being said it would be difficult to use a gamepad in LOTRO as others have said, the only time I really use one is when I'm going around gathering ore and wood and such when I know I won't need to fight.
Re riding, you could get the Samwise pack. It retails on Amazon for $9.99 (digital downoad). I caught it a couple yrs ago for 1/2 price - prolly the best gaming 5 bucks I have spent, at least in this century. It gives you Bay Steed (62%), Riding Skill, a 4th inventory bag, and Currency Cap removal for all toons current and future on your account. It also upgrades your account to Premium.
Well, there is the Urban Dictionary entry. However, I've never actually heard that expression used so yeah....
My best guess is that it probably violated the "Proper names and places or close facsimiles thereof" section of the naming policy.
In addition to Esc->Options->Keymapping, you can also edit the lotro.keymap file manually while the game is not running.
Or you can use software, such as AutoHotKey (free, open source, vastly overpowered) to change keys around. (Just don't bot! 1 key press = 1 key press, not 100.)
I greatly prefer Lotro when I can toggle mouse-steer mode on and off.
See: part5, something I wrote a long time ago...
It would certainly take some effort to get working but you could likely install linux using crouton, it will run side by side with chrome OS, youll be able to swap between the 2 seamlessly, and then a cloud gaming service like this
https://shadow.tech/
I'm un sure if free alternatives exist that was from a quick google and it seems they have linux support.
Hey everyone.
Due to survey monkey's free limitations I'm placing the second poll in the comments here. Unfortunately I didn't take into account that votes filtering in from reddit will keep going into the first poll unlike the LOTRO forums where I can simply switch out the polls.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/H67N7TW
Here is the link to the second poll. If you happened to vote after I posted this comment or viewed the thread before posting, vote on this poll.
I'll give some hints as to what the results are turning out to be -
I found this one through another one listed on slickdeals.
Just returned to Lotro after an 18 month break and saw this mount as screenshot of the week in Beacon Issue 59 (http://www.lotro.com/en/game/articles/lotro-beacon-issue-59) - anyone know what it is or how to get it?
Thanks
There're rumours about next noticeable sale (~70% cutoff) of the expansions while upcoming summer (~july), as it was in previous one '16. But for now, it's only rumours.
And if you'll choose to sub temporarily, it may be good to spend your monthly bonus points (500 per month) on non-xpack questpacks. You may check the list.
Keep in mind that account selling is against the LOTRO terms of use.
After you buy the quad pack and helms deep you will have them forever.
Subbing will give you access to the other quests, if you look at this page you can see the difference between quest packs and expansions.
the quests packs either come with subbing, which you will lose if you run out of the month OR you can buy them using Tp and keep them forever.
Expansion packs stay with you until you lose your account I guess.
I started playing 3 weeks ago. I've never been able to purchase points in the store. I always get this error message. The steps I take are: log in to game, open store, click add points, only option I'm given is purchase points using Steam, I click it, it gives me this screen. There's no other option.
Edit: Last time I contacted Turbine they manually added points on their end using my Visa. I contacted them again two days ago saying I still had the same problem. They actually just replied saying they can't help with Steam wallet. What the hell is Steam wallet and what does it have to do with this?
Edit 2: Turbine just emailed me back and said don't play through Steam, use this: http://www.lotro.com/en/game/download
I thought it was spelled out fairly clearly, if not here goes.
Go to the start menu. Click control panel. Click programs and features. Scroll down to Lotro and click it, now hit uninstall. Tell it yes. When fully uninstalled.
Go to the start menu, click computer. Go to the C drive. Open users. Open your login name folder. Open documents. Right click the Lord of the rings folder and click delete.
Go to the start menu. click on computer. go to the C drive. Open program files (x86 if you have one). Scroll down to the turbine folder. Right click it and delete.
Go to this website http://www.lotro.com/support/download-lotro download the low or high resolution client. Install it. Patch it. Play it.
The problem is usually either a bad patch, corrupt file in the lotro folder, or bad addons. This method will completely wipe out all 3 of those.
Since I was looking for this info as well, figured I'd post it here too.
http://www.lotro.com/news/latestnews/2082-riders-of-rohan-pre-order-faq
20. How much will Riders of Rohan be in the LOTRO Store? Can I buy parts of the expansion pack separately?
Yes, you can purchase portions of the expansion separately with your Turbine Points in the LOTRO Store. These items will be released in the LOTRO Store on the same day as the expansion, October 15th. The prices are as follows:
Buy one month of VIP and create all 3 characters before the VIP expires. When you drop down to premium, you will still get all the perks that you don't get when you are F2P (no gold cap, all trait slots unlocked, etc.). See here for further details:
"There's really no way to confirm which way or another which is the most populated server." -> Not true. Simply create a new toon, get out of the starter zone, then see for yourself by hopping over to west bree.
To be more precies, since you'll probably be most concerned with the population at your particular timezone, roll toons on the servers then switch between them to compare populations.
Will see later what Withywindle is like during US peak hours for comparison. So far it's the most people I've ever seen online.
Now if you're starting out, you should probably pick one of the servers where there are community-driven events officially supported by Turbine. These are the servers you'll probably want to be in to join those events:
I'm going to tell you the same thing I try and tell every new LotRO player... Spending $15 to get one month of VIP will be the best investment you ever make in this game.
While you are VIP, fill up all three character slots with characters you plan on playing. Why? Because, when your VIP expires, you drop down to a premium player, and then when you create new characters you don't get the benefits a VIP gets. These include:
The full list of differences is here: http://www.lotro.com/betasignup/vipchart.html
There is still a subscription based system - for your monthly fee you get VIP status and 500 Turbine Points per month. There are sales and multi-month discounts.
I dunno about the solely store-geared folks. I don't think they would be very successful at end-game content.
have you ever stropped to think about the reason they are not spilling all the beans about what is going on? is LAWYERS??? maybe they can't at this point... I just love the fact that everyone is jumping on the "Turbine sucks and should be ashamed" bandwagon.... Give them a break... Thank about all the people that are working hard to get this fixed and figure out what happened.... I for one SUPPORT turbine... GOOD ON YOU TURBINE.... Get it fixed, make sure it fixed, so no stupid script kiddie try's to do it again... and then you can tell us what happened.. and like AlucardZero Said, if you would have read the latest's news, they [SUGGEST CHANGE YOU PASSWORD... ]http://www.lotro.com/news/latestnews/1497
http://www.lotro.com/lotrostoresale
You can add turbine points to your account and unlock new zones if you want to, without having a sub. Someone mentioned it in another post, but you can play the free content up to the point where you want the extra zones, then just buy that. If you want more when you are done with that, you have the option to buy another zone.
Now is the time to hunt those bargain bins for cheap MoM boxes, because they will render useless after the migration! see bullet point #16
On a side note, I find it a bit odd that EU players are responsible for their own migration and need to go through the migration process manually.
Check out this chart
A few things to note... after you lose VIP status (if you quit paying monthly), all characters that you played (even just logging in) while VIP retain all their VIP things excluding quest packs. So what a lot of players do is get VIP, create one of each class you will ever want to play on every server you want to play on, then let VIP lapse. All those characters will have all their bags, have no gold limit, etc. Unfortunately you will still have to buy (via turbine points) the riding skill and quest packs after your VIP lapses (unless you get the riding while still VIP).
Also, as VIP you get 500 turbine points a month. Since you got 3 months of it, you will be somewhat close to getting the Moria expansion... and chances are if you spend some time doing deeds and what-not you'll have enough to actually purchase it.
The Sam Gamgee starter pack is still on amazon, and that gives a mount (just a normal one), riding skill, and currency cap lifted on all characters: https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Samwise-Download/dp/B00EUHVOW2
While I can recommend just about any edition of The Hobbit, if you're looking for one with a bit more eye candy to help you through it there's this edition that has some great illustrations by Jemima Catlin:
Sure thing! I’ll give you the rundown for an almost exact copy build I just made a couple months ago.
Parts needed: HP Prodesk G2 MT (make sure it’s the MT and not the SFF) like this one for ~$100
Get a GeForce GTX 1650 OC 4GB GDDR6 (must be this model or you’ll have to upgrade the power supply) New Amazon: $169 Used eBay: ~$130
Get a cheap 256gb SSD like this one for $20 (or spend a little more for a bigger one)
Use a usb flash drive larger than 32gb to download the HP OS repair (the windows key is hard coded in the BIOS, so you won’t need another) to install Windows 10. If you can’t find the link, lmk. I can hunt around and find it again.
Make sure you make the SSD the primary (C) drive and the HDD (spinning disk) the secondary (D or whatever letter you want) drive. Install Windows and LOTRO on the C drive. The HDD can be for other programs, pictures, etc…
…and enjoy the smooth, Ultra High awesomeness.
That should put you at $250-$290 all in, based on your choices.
Optional: Get another 4gb x 2 RAM set to upgrade your RAM to 16 Gb total. Not mandatory, but helps.
You can get a higher power graphics card if you want, but you’ll have to buy a bigger PSU (650W is the sweet spot) and buy a $10 adapter cable to make it work with the HP MOBO.
Hope this helps. LMK if you have any other questions or run into any issues.
Follow up. The pack does not come with LP: https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Samwise-Download/dp/B00EUHVOW2
and was discontinued because it stopped working correctly more than 6 years ago: https://forums.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?597143-Error-trying-to-purchase-Samwise-Gamgee-s-Starter-Pack#post7531291
I attached here an amazon link where you can buy some tissues to clean off your tears
I run it on this… no raids but works sufficiently
https://www.amazon.com/Beelink-SEi8-i3-8109U-Computer-Upgradable/dp/B0992SKWWX/ref=gp_aw_ybh_a_sccl_3/135-6755147-5370134?pd_rd_w=7d6HI&content-id=amzn1.sym.1f81ea04-e073-4fcf-892c-94a6ca7410e2&pf_rd_p=1f81ea04-e073-4fcf-892c-94a6ca7410e2&... Also have a 10 yo laptop that runs it
If your TV is a smart TV that can get apps you could try using Steam Link. Best experience is probably being hooked up to a wired network though. (for both TV and PC)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.valvesoftware.steamlink&hl=en_US&gl=US
I have no experience with the APP but I have the Steam Link hardware device from when they used to sell them and you can essentially control your PC from it. Others have told me the app is virtually the same, but via the smart TV. You technically don't even need the Steam version of lotro to play because once you're into your computer you can minimize big picture mode and just control your PC as usual, but from the comfort of your couch. I have a Mouse/Keyboard I leave in my living room just for this.
As for playing it at 4k, I saw someone mention the UI - if I'm not mistaken, didn't they add UI scaling options? To be fair, I'm not playing at 4k, I play at 2k, and it's great. And I believe the Steam Link will simply upscale what you're playing, so it will not be true 4k unless your PC is... but don't quote me on that!
Anyway, something to try!
Of course! And yeah Steam Controller is nice for some things, but not so much for others. I have a Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse for the living room and I got a little lapdesk for them haha. This guy:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07N9LDMF8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm not very much of a console gamer (had a PC since I was a lad, so just got used to PC gaming) so I suck bad with a controller. Having a mouse/keyboard and sitting on the couch with a big ol' TV is actually pretty nice. :)
Good luck fellow adventurer!
Of course :). This would work just fine by the way - https://www.amazon.com/HP-Processor-Micro-Edge-Long-Lasting-15-ef2024nr/dp/B09J1PS4TG/ref=sr\_1\_10?crid=3QE61RE16BDSU&keywords=laptop&qid=1655435455&refinements=p\_n\_feature\_fourteen\_browse-bin%3A2057441011%2Cp\_36%3A2421886011&...
Ok, well, this breaks hardcore F2P, but the best money I spent in LOTRO was getting four of these for my family's LOTRO accounts:
https://amzn.com/dp/B00EUHVOW2
Riding skill for every character you ever make (even in the future) and a free horse as soon as you exit the beginner section. This makes your account premium, which also has advantanges. I know a guy that will do free to the nth degree, but he agrees with me. I was blown away when he bought it.
I have never seen a mouse quite like that, might have to try it! My mouse hand has definitely been worse than my left, so I'm up for trying anything that might give it a break!
By the way, for anyone else looking for ergo suggestions, my absolute favorite item so far has been this Kinesis Gaming split keyboard, mine has the MX silver switches for a nice soft touch. It's a game-changer for comfort and I would have loved it even before the nerve damage! Totally worth every penny.
Ah that's interesting. What that probably means is that, by default, your ISP has a really bad route to the lotro servers. By connecting through the VPN, you've changed the route, more or less.
Do you know what server you connected to with NordVPN? You could try connecting to different servers to see if you get better loss.
I did figure out a few good commands you could use with nmap to test your connection outside of the game, but you'd have to download nmap.
Couple things.
This is essentially a Windows Chromebook. You'll need to get Windows 10 out of S-Mode, which is a locked down mode that prevents it from running any program not found on the Windows Store. It's usually enabled for performance and security. Enabling this might slow the computer down a bit. You won't be able to install lotro without disabling this though.
The Pentium Silver N5000 is extremely weak. It's a system-on-a-chip, meaning it's packaged together with some other hardware beyond just the CPU. This means less die area for the CPU, and cooling is shared with other components. This means worse performance.
Running lotro on this computer might be possible with some work, but it will be a horrible experience.
You would be drastically better served with something like this: (Amazon Link)
https://smile.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Quad-Download/dp/B00EUHVPKI?th=1

It's not quite the $10/expansion it normally is, since you already have Moria (and maybe Mirkwood?), but the Quad Pack on Amazon gives the full expansions and comes to $10/expansion.

The LOTRO Expansion Trove on the LOTRO site is also $10/expansion for the first 6, but they're not the full expansions (they won't include things like races/classes, raids).

Those are the 2 routes I would go if I didn't want to spend LP. The way expansions are handled isn't great, but I recall hearing that SSG knows it's a pain point and have plans to fix it..eventually.
Amazon still looks like it's selling quad pack keys. $40 is more than it's worth, though; the trove from the website is $60 and getting what it has is going to cost you more than $20 in points, even if the trove lacks a few things it should have (runekeeper/warden classes, two character slots, ligh/heavy combat trees).
https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Quad-Download/dp/B00EUHVPKI
You can run it with Crossover, they have a fairly active community forum for support for lotro by the looks of it.
Get Oracles VirtualBox, install an up to date Win10 inside a virtual machine and run LOTRO in there. Works very fine for me, far less troubles then the Mac OS version of LOTRO. You can even limit the VMs use of processor, RAM and gfx resources if you have the impression it brings your machine to it's knees. For gaming I tend raise the VMs resources though, bc I don't run gaming in the background or something.
Hope this helps! /Gutur
Have you read up on Windows 10? The inconveniently timed updates that break and delete software while resetting your privacy settings to "NONE"? The widespread spying? The way it circumvents DNS, firewalls, VPNs, and leaks data to phone home? The part where you have to block so many domains at your router? (I lost count after the first hundred.) It's at the point where you need something like Pi-Hole, a computer sitting on ethernet between Win10 and your network, to block all their spying. And it needs to be updated frequently!
It's one thing if your Win10 box is dedicated to just playing one or two games. It's another if you're trying to do anything work/financial/legal/medical/etc.
And frankly, a dedicated Win10 game machine for 1 or 2 games is awfully expensive entertainment.
Actually, Asus had their supply chain attacked last March. Infected a lot of folks with malware.
Lenovo's had a few nasty incidents. They seem to have learned their lesson, but who knows...
These days all my work, financials, banking, investments, legal matters, email, etc is on Mac. Although Linux is starting to sound really good!
Windows 10, on the other hand... Well I stopped counting how many internet domains I have to block after the first hundred. Microsoft's circumvents DNS, their own firewall, even bypasses your VPN to transmit data home unsecured. You can't block it on the local system. You need something like Pi-Hole, a computer sitting between Win10 and your network, to block all their spying. And it needs to be updated frequently!
It's one thing if somebody in China wants to covertly know when I play Lotro. Microsoft, they're at a whole 'nother level. It's broadband spying. They don't care what leaks, or who they hurt along the way. There are no limits! It's freaking scary...
On the other hand, $300 for a windows box versus $1000 to $2500 for a Mac. Big cost difference to play Lotro.
With real money, you can do the $60 Expansion Trove at the bottom of this page. Comes with 6 expansions (Moria, Mirkwood, Isengard, Rohan, Helm's Deep, and Mordor) but I've heard it doesn't come with the extras like class/race unlocks. You can also do the LOTRO Quad Pack for $40. It comes with 4 expansions (Moria, Mirkwood, Isengard, and Rohan), and I've heard that this one does come with class/race unlocks. Unfortunately, either way will still effectively be you rebuying Moria.

You can also use LOTRO Points in the ingame store to buy expansions. Either farming LP (which is mind-numbingly boring in my experience, especially for how many would be needed) or subscribing for the 500/month allotment, or simply buying the LP outright.

An expansion sale just ended on the LOTRO Store, but it didn't have any discount on the Trove, only Minas Morgul and onwards.
https://lutris.net/games/the-lord-of-the-rings-onlinetm/
Pick Standalone DXVK + Esync version
You don't need to reinstall the game, btw. When the installer launches, just close it. Lutris doesn't care, the script will still continue (or if you want to be safe, install it, but don't launch it. idk how registry works) Then you go into the folder for lotro's prefix (under ~/Games) and copy your old install over to it. Can copy your config files from My Documents too.
You'll probably have to right-click Configure on lotro in Lutris, go to Game Options, and under Executable, add " (x86)" after Program Files. Because the game installs to Program Files (x86) and yet for some reason Lutris saves the path as Program Files, so unless you change it it won't be able to find the exe to run it.
It sometimes hangs when you try to load the launcher, if that happens scroll down on the right of the window in Lutris and Kill all wine processes, and try again until it loads. IME the Steam version through Proton is far more reliable so you might opt to play through steam instead, if you don't mind having to keep steam running all the time whenever you play. standalone through lutris works just fine though, once you do get the launcher to load without hanging.
Based on this thread, I purchased a new headset myself today. This is what I ended up with - Plantronics GameCom 367. With the discount code. came to $24.99. I chose the non-USB model because I personally don't need to hear some of the sounds.
Are your computer specs decent?
Is the game installed on an SSD?
What's your CPU/GPU/Memory/disk like when the game is running?
Have you tried running on low settings?
Do you have any overlays running like steam, overwolf, etc?
Try something like https://www.speedtest.net/
Do you play other games that have latency problems?
Open a command prompt and type ping www.google.com /n 1000 to see if you have a wildly fluctuating ping or any packet loss.
https://www.speedtest.net/ is what I used to use.
Can always text for packet loss too. This can give you more of an idea over time if you are having lag spikes since the speed test is a snapshot in time. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wikihow.tech/Test-Packet-Loss-on-PC-or-Mac%3famp=1
I'm not a computer expert but this has shown me if it's really my internet in the past, especially when the lag I was experiencing wasn't common in the community. Try to do one of these when you encounter crazy lag in lotro.
You should buy a premium wallet so you don't have limited game gold
You should go vip even if its just for a month it will open up a lot of stuff for you $14.99/mo
I would buy the quad pack expansion $39.99 from amazon if you decide to go deeper, it will take you all the way to Rohan and Isengard
https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Quad-Download/dp/B00EUHVPKI
This does great. 2021 Flagship Lenovo Legion 5 Gaming Laptop 15.6" FHD IPS 120Hz AMD 6-Core Ryzen 5 4600H (Beats i7-9750H) 8GB RAM 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD GeForce GTX 1650 Ti 4GB Backlit Wifi6 Win10 + HDMI Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08QR8BP7G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2SQ3CKQ8FQT9VW1Q053P
Right, first of all thanks to you and the others for help, went for Laurelin as you suggested - Elf Hunter Vantheras. Now two questions to your post "points" 1. If i'll buy VIP, when will i have to buy the Quad Pack and Helm's Deep?(I'm not a rich person, can't spent 60€ in a week or so) 4. I thought this is VIP? https://www.g2a.com/lord-of-the-rings-online-time-card-60-days-eu-prepaid.html

I got it up and running in about 15 minutes of actual work (plus downloading the client…). In my case the UserPreferences.ini was missing the [Display] settings so I just copied it from the thread mentioned above.
This is pretty disturbing.
If you're unsure whether you've gotten everything off of your system, try this:
Check Program listings, which I'm sure you've done. Nothing suspicious?
Which AV programs have you used to scan? I suggest Microsoft Security Essentials (assuming you use Windows) and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. I do not suggest Norton, McAffe, or anything else, because they tend to be very intrusive and cause major system (and online gaming) slowdowns. AVG is one that's known for causing problems for some users.
If you've used either of those, they've detected things, and are unable to get rid of them (never had this problem with MSSE, but have with MBAM), try running them in safe mode. If this does not work.. then do a Google search for "ComboFix" and read about it. It is a VERY powerful Malware removal tool that does not discriminate. For this reason, if Malicious code has been injected in to critical system files, it will delete them. So if you decide to use this, do so at your own risk.
If you scan with CF and it finds nothing, you should be good to go. CF is good at finding those files that want to regenerate themselves with random filenames, hide themselves from task manager, and create hidden services to achieve such things. But again, if something has injected itself in to system files.. it will remove them. However if you have your OS installation disc handy, you can always boot with it and repair your installation.
Anyway, I've always been weary of Pando. I always hated having it installed on my machine, and am glad DDO (I came here from the x-post) moved to Steam so I no longer have to put up with it.
I hope this helps you and others in some way.
Edit: Link to the ComboFix usage guide here. Again, please be careful using it if you have to.
You might look at AutoHotKey too. Open Source, very overpowered, etc. https://autohotkey.com/docs/misc/RemapJoystick.htm
One trick is to remap the mouse so you can toggle mouse-look mode on/off. Or use shift/control/alt plus the mousewheel to perform functions.
I concur that there are an awful lot of buttons to press in Lotro, perhaps too many for a controller...
Sorry I guess I did not read
yeah the content goes away with the vip
the next best deal is the Quadpack from Amazon at 39.99 that will give you Moria, Mirkwood Isengaard and Riders Of Rohan
https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Quad-Download/dp/B00EUHVPKI
I, as a returning player, had a problem with the Steam download recently, so I had to repair the game install. (This causes the launcher to redownload the whole game again, so it will take some time.)
To do so, click the arrow in the upper-right corner and click Options. From there, click the Repair tab and, where it says "Repair Game Data", click the Repair button. I suggest doing this at night when no one else is using the internet. If you have internet with decent speeds, it'll probably be done in the morning. (The game is around 20 GBs total, plus about 6 GBs more if you download the optional high-res files.) Be sure to change your computer settings so it won't go to sleep.
Alternatively, you can go directly to LotRO's website and download the game from there. For this method, the initial download is done by using Akamai Netsession Interface, which you can uninstall after the initial download has finished. The developers of LotRO specifically decided against using the peer-to-peer version of Akamai Netsession Interface, so no need to worry there. The game will be downloaded from the Akamai server nearest to you.
IF you enjoy lots of alts, it's worth it.
If you only have one toon, you can buy riding for that character alone (capped at 68% which is pretty hard to tell from 78% honestly) for 95 tp. 2396 = that same riding skill for TWENTY FIVE toons.
Also, one thing not mentioned is that ALL this stuff comes up on sale eventually. Even though you have gobs of TP, no reason to waste them.
Check http://www.lotro.com/en/lotrostoresale
For example right now Beorning, Runekeeper, and Warden classes are 25% off!
No, skill trees did not go away. Yes, the old builds are still wrecked. No more minstrel heal while moving, at least not at the lower levels.
They did add an awful lot to the game since that Nov2013 patch. Inventory is now up to 135 slots, bought +5 at a time in the store. Man that is nice! Bags are resizable, you can have 10x20 instead of 3x5. SkillTree, for solo minstrels, gives extra damage and crit early on, which is nice. You can mine ore/wood while mounted on a horse, no dismounting required. (Though you do have to dismount to interact with other things.) Instant free ride between Bree and Festival grounds. Move to Use item in options, very helpful on some of these quests. Craft mats (wood, ore) now stack to 500. There are non-combat pets. (Current Yule festival has 3 grims.)
Just a lot of nice features. They seem to realize they've made a mistake, the triple bonus points showed that, they're trying to make amends, but they can't back out of the SkillTree without making a bigger mess.
Be advised that the skill tree has a lot of skills in it, not just the bonus every 5 points but every point is spent on something. I don't like it either, but you may want to try it. For minstrels, solo minstrels, it's not too painful. Also, no cost to reset and redo your trait tree. (Though keeping extra trait trees around is sold in store.)
But you probably do want to start over. I'd hate to try to figure this all out with a high-level character. (Be advised, if you are starting over, the Yule festival is in progress right now. Most quests are L10. It offers a 68% horse for 80 tickets. You can earn 60-70 a day, depending on how aggressive you are.)
The rewards for playing?
Everyone gets a special portrait frame showing how many years they have been playing, and all other previous year rewards. These are based on LOTRO's anniversary of April 30th.
In addition to that:
1 Year:
2 Years:
3 Years:
4 Years:
5 Years:
6 Years:
7 Years:
In addition to being a player for 7 years, your monster characters will also receive:
For more information, though I think I covered it all, go to: http://www.lotro.com/en/7anniversary-rewards
Honestly it fits, I didn't think it did until I looked, and Beornings are mentioned in LOTR a few times, which matches the statement made in the last THtI.
At this point it will have to be a race of man only, as that is actually their ancestry.
If it isn't a Beorn inspired class, then I'm almost more interested in what it could be.
however, I'm feel pretty certain that it would be this. Its been requested an ungodly number of times, and some good write-ups have been done as well: http://www.lotro.com/forums/showthread.php?371900-New-Class-Beorning
Not after October 15th. Most, if not all, of the taunt skills are becoming detaunts when in Overpower, and there is a 2s induction to switch stances. Plus they're cutting Guards' armor AND mitigation ratings (not percentages) by 30% in Overpower. Even with a shield on, that's going to hurt.
It makes me really sad for those talented people who have built LIs and gearsets specifically for this (admittedly niche) purpose, but I just don't see how an RoR Guardian will be sturdy enough to tank in Overpower, especially given the change to Pledge as well.
Here's the dev diary, if you want to read the sad news for yourself:

> Rohan Expansion Content: 4295 TP
> Expansion Content includes the quests in the Rohan region.
FAQ button at the bottom of every rohan.lotro.com page
No information on instances for TP.
> the quest packs for the first two expansions
The only other expansion quests the Heroic edition includes is Moria
> none of the more desirable Eriador quest packs
umm xcuse me, Evendim is quite desirable
> most of which I do believe are copies of MoM/Mirkwood quest packs
I don't know what that means.
> is it worth buying the Rohan Base pack now
Do what you want. Keep in mind that buying Rohan before September 5th will get you 1500 "free" TP.
> How much TP do you think he instance cluster
Isengard instance cluster was 1,495, so, 1,995?
Mithril edition is around $55 of content (not counting day of VIP). Then if you add in the partial day of VIP that lets you unlock you characters bags and gold cap so you don't have to spend turbine points on them (unless you create a character later when you are not VIP) it makes it worth even more.
Another note if you buy mithril edition and get your VIP for a day create all your monster play classes because they will get all of their traits unlocked while you are VIP where it costs like $30+ in TP each character to unlock all the trait slots if you buy the TP with cash. When your VIP is over you will only have the reaver class but the others characters will still be there with all of their traits unlocked if you ever choose to unlock another monster play class.
EDIT: One more tip. Do not spend TP on anything that is not riding skill or an account wide item. Items like new areas or your bags and shared storage and stuff like that is the best value. Also Sales change every week and if you don't need something from the turbine store right then and there you should wait for it to go on sale. Here is the sale page http://www.lotro.com/lotrostoresale. Sales change every friday (they get posted on thursday)
This is for those who may not be paying much attention anymore and for those without RoI. For $25 I got the legendary edition today - a steal. With my Moria box and this I got all the expansions, the RoI legendary extra areas, the month of VIP with Moria, and all the 'free' TP, for $50.
have you ever stropped to think about the reason they are not spilling all the beans about what is going on? is LAWYERS??? maybe they can't at this point...
Shield brother has been changed. To Arms is no longer +25% damage, it is now -15% incoming damage. the +incoming Healing is unchanged, however.
The new Blade-Brother has +damage on To Arms and -attack speed from Strength of Will.
Only Lead the Charge capstone will let you get the full benefit of blade-brother, and we don't even get it until 74.
Source; the very last line mentions the Shield-Brother change.
tldr; Full b/p/e with +20%inc heals and -15% inc damage will make us even harder to kill, but a new bleed + a slow isn't going to change anything. We still can't solo in the Moors, but we'll be that much harder to take down while healing our fellowship.
Obviously until I get a feel of it this is entirely provisional but I think I like the changes they're making to the champ, in principle. In fervour we won't generate as much threat, and in glory we can now just about be a shieldless tank.
Some may say they've reduced the difficulty of the class, and they're probably right, but they've addressed some of the things that have annoyed me for years.
They have nerfed the fuck out of controlled burn
Anyway I think this may be the non-class related significant stuff, there's a lot to consider.
Here's a good guide to what you get with each type of account. Its slightly out of date, since they haven't updated it since Lone Lands was made f2p and the level cap raised to 65 for everyone. But its sufficient to give you a good idea.
TL;DR You lose access to any quest packs you don't own, lose some character slots, and any character you create after dropping down only has bag/trait slot restrictions. Characters you played as a VIP keep 5 bags and any unlocked trait slots.
A F2P player will start off just like a VIP player in terms of virtues, however, once they unlock their second slot, they have too both purchase the slot with TP and meet the level requirement for those slots as well.
You can purchase I believe +1 rank in all of the virtues with TP, but nothing beyond that without finishing in game deeds.
completing deeds gives you * TP * (possibly) A title * (possibly) +1 or +2 to a virtue * (possibly) barter items * (possibly) heritage runes(Experience for Legendary weapons see here for info about those. They were added during the MOM expansion and are a big part of +50 gameplay * (possibly) reputation with factions
As for the getting TP, you will get some for various reputation deeds which were added, but you will not receive any for the old deeds completed, because so many people would have gazillions TP (for instance I have 3 65s, so I would have started out w/ quite a bit when it was introduced.)
Hopefully that cleared it up a little.
Moria is still an expansion, It is free to explore, and you can complete the epic quests that run through it, however you won't have access to any other quests without purchasing it. The older runs (such as Rift with the Balrog and other runs such as CD) don't get run as much with the increased level cap, however you will see groups run them every now and again. The current raids do get run quite often however (I can't speak for the reddit kin, as I am on a different server, but you should be able to find a raiding kin on most any server if that is what you enjoy). TP (aka Turbine Points) are purchasable points which can then be used to either micro purchase your way to having everything a VIP account has (unlocked character slots, removal of gold cap, quests packs, etc) as well as purchase other temporary buffs, cosmetic items, and a few other odds and ends. As for benefits for the VIP see VIP Chart.
Btw, the caster class you would have played would have been Lore Master (as long as he wasn't a healer that is then you would have been a mini). they have added another caster since SOA, as well as the Warden class, both of which are part of the Moria expansion or purchasable separately with TP. Also as a quick note, if you intend to join a serious raiding kin, I suspect that they will want you to be VIP (or at least premium) so that you have all of your virtues unlocked. Also, sorry about the abbreviations, I'm too lazy to look up how all the names are spelled

Windows 10 has been kind of a nightmare. Microsoft updates Win10, often involuntarily without the knowledge of the consumer, and often removing functionality or breaking things.
So working yesterday doesn't mean much under Win10.
That said, changes to software or drivers can easily cause a BSOD.
And sometimes you have to install new, updated drivers to be compatible with the latest Win10 changes.
Then there's hardware issues. I knew of someone once who had a situation where everything would work fine until he had a App, like a game, that really drove the CPU load up. Turned out to be a failed CPU fan.
Sometimes it's just a matter of dust in the cooling ducts/fans. (In which case you want to blow it out with canned air. Use the canned air! Otherwise humidity & moisture become a problem.)
You might try something like CPUID Hardware Monitor. Watch your temps and see if they are climbing too high.
Cooking your computer is a good way to trigger BSODs. I knew of another fellow with a laptop. Turned out Windows was resetting the cooling fans from Coolest Mode to Quiet Mode. Led to BSODs.
What happens if you run a stress test? Or maybe another demanding game? You said you played them in the past, but what about now? This will rule out if it's lotro or a PC hardware failure.

What do the temps look like if you monitor them with something like: https://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

What happens if you switch from 64 bit to 32 bit?
There are things that can happen under Windows that will make the system unstable, causing a BSOD much, much later. Like days later. It's not exactly easy to track down. I used to use a sleep shortcut that would do this, only learning after years of random BSODs not to do it that way.
Another possibility is hardware. How good is your cooling? Is your computer dusty? It's summertime in the northern hemisphere. Temperatures are at record highs. If your system gets too hot, you'll see BSODs. Something like CPUID HWMonitor might be helpful. Some computers come with fan options. HP has (or had) HPCoolSense on their laptops. Other times you can install fan software, like smcFanControl on Macs.
Heat is the enemy of computers. Get them hot enough, and even Linux will kernel panic.
I don't know what you were taught in school, but that was the standard when I submitted my graduate thesis. It's still in use today, and considered acceptable, and by many, preferable, as noted below: https://www.typing.com/blog/use-one-two-spaces-period/ and here: https://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2018/05/two-spaces-after-a-period/559304/
You are correct if you use only one space, but so am I. To each his own. Vive le difference!
It is weird it doesn't show up on Steam, under the DLC for LOTRO. It does show up in search results...

If all you care about is the mount you can get the starter pack either on the website or on amazon. Both version have different things included but both come with the riding skill for all current and future characters.
Amazon version - https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Samwise-Download/dp/B00EUHVOW2/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=lotro&qid=1634340579&sr=8-1
Website version - https://store-new.standingstonegames.com/lotro/special-offers
The website version comes with more things in total but i personally prefer the extra bag and currency cap removal that is in the amazon version. But really the main draw for both is the riding skill for all current and future characters and makes it available immediately so you could get whichever one has the extras you prefer.
You can still purchase the quad pack on Amazon.
I purchased this a couple weeks ago and can verify it works. To redeem the code you need to go to the LOTRO store in game and input the code there, do NOT follow the instructions on Amazon or you will get an error. This does come with the two classes. 🙂
you can buy the quad pack as a download for amazon for 39.99 USD
https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Quad-Download/dp/B00EUHVPKI
I've purchased 7 of these. Literally 7 of them. I have one for both my wife & my desktops, one for both our laptops, and have used them so long they wore out eventually and needed replacing.
https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-Programmable-Precision-Buttons-Windows/dp/B00GU8W5AE/
Different times on the year....with the Olidays coming up they usually go on sale
look for the 4 pack
https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Quad-Download/dp/B00EUHVPKI
It is usually half price
Only from amazon now. They used to sell it in the Lotro Market, but they don't anymore. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/Lord-Rings-Online-Samwise-Download/dp/B00EUHVOW2
I would hold off on buying much of anything until you decide you really like the game.
