I passed your question onto Greg Studley on the notetracking team and here's his response:
"All about tension and release. The previous chord is a G major. While that chord is being played, the lead has an orange 5 (the note C) and then a bent green 8 (bending up to the note A). Neither of these notes are in the G chord, which creates tension between the melody and the chord. Then, as the C chord is played, the green 8 resolves to the note G, which is in the C chord. Tension against the G chord, release the tension on the C chord."
To my untrained eye, you were on the right path in terms of your own answer.
And I'll plug Greg's book if you're interested in more of his insights: https://www.amazon.com/Guitarists-Guide-Improvising-Knowledge-Part-ebook/dp/B00TG8WXZ2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1538524276&
You can do this regardless of the platform
1 BOSS-TU3 Tuner pedal
Guitar -> Boss Input
Boss ByPass -> Realtone cable to console / PC
Boss Out -> Amp
If you get hum:
1) Make sure everything is plugged into the same electrical outlet
if that doesn't help this solved that: Behringer MicroHD HD400 Ultra-Compact 2-Channel Hum Destroyer
I have been doing this for years both guitar and bass.
If you don't want to spend the $ on the pedal (it's $100 or so) - a simple splitter would serve the same purpose.
Added bonuses of this:
1) Your real-tone cable stays in place and isn't subject to any movement as it would when plugged directly into the guitar.
2) When you think you're kicking ass you can mute Rocksmith entirely and play "a cappella" - this is a humbling experience.
3) This helps you understand the tone constructions of songs as you try to dial in your amp to match songs.
For today (a few more hours I would guess), it's half off at Amazon and includes the cable. That's the cost of a cable, so if you decide later to get the PC version, you're not really out anything.
Heads up, amazon has rocksmith+cable for pc for $30 right now. That seems like a pretty killer deal to me.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KVVSRPW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Game and cable - $30-40 Guitar on it's own, as low as $99.
> There are bundles on Amazon for about $250 that include an Epiphone guitar and the PS4 edition.
Worth noting that you can save some money by buying the guitar and game separately. The game including the cable is currently $41 on Amazon, while the guitar is always about $130. And any electric guitar will work, so you can trade that out for any other guitar if you like.
Use an optical audio cable, the ps4 does have a port for that. Personally I use an optical cable plugged into a converter I bought from Amazon that has a headphone jack in it, and play with headphones. Here's the converter. Fosmon Digital to Analog (L/R) Stereo Audio Converter Adapter - Changes Digital Coaxial or Optical Toslink [SPDIF] into Stereo 3.5mm Jack or L/R (Red/White) RCA Audio Outputs - Includes AC Power Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KCRYIWM/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_tZhlvb0K9EDE6 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KCRYIWM/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_tZhlvb0K9EDE6
It's funny, the 2014 PC Game and cable are $51.98 at Amazon right now, but if you get the PC Remastered Game and Cable, they're only $29.99.
> the pack is too damn expensive :D
I'm curious.
It's been out since November 11th... How is $11.99 USD still too expensive after 176 days? You could have put aside 10 cents everyday and been able to afford it by now
It's possible your Windows swap file is on your primary drive, and it's filling up as RAM runs out and the system swaps it into pagefile.sys. If you're limited for space on your system drive, you can move the swap file to another hard disk.

Assuming Windows 10, this how-to might help.
nope, unfortunately not.
There's however midi mode in riff-repeater that plays only the charted notes, so at least some improvement in that area, although for playing the song I'd definitely prefer the option to duck/mute the original guitar.
There seems to be a big change in how Ubisoft now licenses the songs, talking about how millions of songs will be available (albeit with AI generated chord charts). Who knows, maybe they also have deals to use the multitracks for this purpose. In Chainbrain's stream avonnagel (someone from Rocksmith dev team) mentioned in chat that they'll have an announcement re the licensing later this year. I'm hoping that this will provide some held-back features not available in the beta, like remixing the stems..
I'm pretty sure Ubisoft has the multitracks/stems to feed into their AI (deezer also gets the multitracks from the labels, that allowed them to create and train spleeter https://github.com/deezer/spleeter - and that without them asking for it and they only offering the stereo tracks to their subscribers). So there definitely is an easy technical solution for that, the question only is whether licensing would allow it...
Maybe some people can fully learn stuff in RS by just playing it a lot, but personally I didn't really find that it helped me memorize songs. Sorry if the following is some super captain obvious shit but you asked. :p
This works best for me if I have printed tabs (ala songsterr or RocksmithToTab), but should be fine with just RS if you're on console (albeit a bit slower)
Once I've memorized whatever section I'm trying to learn, if the song is available for RS I'll go into riff repeater. It's more than likely I'm playing slower than the tempo of the song so I use RR to bring myself up to speed.
For some of the more advanced shred stuff it's not a bad idea to check youtube for breakdowns to make sure you're not missing out on a technique RS doesn't show (e.g. sweeping) or just general tips.
Your post is a bit confusing. The title is about the Real Tone cable but the body is about optical audio.
2014 Real Tone cable works fine on Xbox Series X. I don't see why it wouldn't work on the PS5.
There's no optical out on Series X either so I've been using this adapter. It works great.

Thank you for all your replies, so I decided to go for an Epiphone special II : https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B0002CZUV0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8
It's more expensive but at least I won't regret it from what you told me. I have a shop in the city but I don't live very close to it and it's easier for me to buy on amazon, plus if I'm not happy with this model it's amazon so I can always ask for a refund to get an other one.
(also the used guitar I found are only 20€ less than the original price so I prefer to buy something new)
One thing that worked for me was to form the chord with all your fingers positioned perfectly, hit the strings one at a time to make sure you've got it right, then take your fingers off the strings about a centimeter while holding the shape of the chord, and then put them back on the strings as one unit, trying to minimize adjustments.
Just keep doing this and moving your hand slightly farther from the strings until you can completely open your hand, form the chord shape as you bring your fingers in, and hit the whole chord at the same time. In this way, you'll avoid the pitfall of practicing how to put your fingers on the strings one at a time, which some people can do quickly, but it won't sound as clean with quick chord changes.
Edit: I made you a video!
>This is DLC for RS1, but I believe you can still buy it for RS2014 without owning the first game - someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
~~I can't find it on Steam so I'm not sure but on everything else you need to buy it via "Rock Singles Pack" due to some licensing thing.~~
edit: https://steamdb.info/app/206154/history/
Should be fine for Steam, but you need RS1 to purchase it.
Your guitar's intonation may be off; The length of the string from nut to bridge may be off a little; Google how to setup guitar Intonation, you will basically validate the string in pitch when open, 12 fret and 24 (you you got it)

Software you are trying to stream with,
Windows version,
Stereo mix enabled or not,
Sound card,
You can stream perfectly well with Audio Exclusivity enabled, you just need to be using the right software (OBS) and have Stereo Mix enabled. Here are a few screen caps I did a while back of various settings screens that I used then, that worked fine.
Is probably the most commonly used software. Some PC users can use the software included with their graphics card, but for 90% of everyone else, OBS is the easiest option.
If you have a Les Paul body or any that have the Jack on the bottom of your guitar I recommend these plugs: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CX5AN7K/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_Pzxzub1BPKZFX
Since I'm pretty sure my cable failure was due to pinching my cable when I sat my guitar down.
There's an app on sourceforge that allows you to enter passwords into the GIF. I always mean to bookmark the website but I always forget.

I bought mine at Best Buy. It has to be the official Rocksmith cable because it is doing some of the processing inline. $29.99
BTW: you can use Rocksmith as an amp! There is an amp mode built in. On the PS3 you press the square to enable it.
There are also technique challenges in the menu. Try them all. You can also learn a lot from the guitarcade games. The technique challenges will teach you how long to hold notes etc.
Here is how to unlock all the mini games:
I do songs in Rocksmith to get a feel for them and if they're interesting/good enough to play I go look up the tabs (preferably a combined sheet music/tab score) and start marking of the different parts and training them from the tab, focusing more on seeing the structure and note relations (again, this is where a sheet is a very nice visualisation of the notes' direction/the intervals).
I find that when I play a song from within Rocksmith that I haven't already built a mental understanding for I'm essentially doing a direct screen reading to finger coordination attempt but not really absorbing/gaining understanding of the actual song. (Slightly exaggerated, but more or less true.)
After spending som time just noodling based on the tab, I go back to Rocksmith and try out the parts I've been fiddling with in Riff repeater. Sometimes it's just a phrase, sometimes it's almost the entire song, depending on the structure/complexity.
I sometimes also recreate the tab from Rocksmith in Flat.io just to gain a better understanding of it, not necessarily the complete song, just the sections I focus on. (Like this I made for The Trooper).
I feel it helps me focus on practicing specific parts and experiment with tempo and notes in an easier way, and when I feel comfortable I return to Rocksmith to try it out. Then rinse and repeat.
Yes exactly this :) I watched the video before but didn't know the difference. So in the normal lead you'd be playing Jonny's part, and the alternative, Ed's part (the higher note) correct? maybe this is helpful, scroll down to the "what's that" riff
You can learn it through songsterr as well
Although it would be nice to have in there you don't always need to be reliant on Rocksmith ;)
Official cable is the way to go if you're just starting out IMO. That's all you really need. Keep it simple and have fun.
If you're really concerned about the cable's durability or your decide to pick up an amp later on, I'd recommend a cheap tuning pedal with two outputs. Your guitar plugs into the pedal with any normal instrument cable, then the Rocksmith cable goes from the pedal to your computer. Benefits:
>I have an iPad, but there’s no iPad real tone cable
If you have an older Lightning iPad you can get the Lightning to USB Adapter, If you have a newer USB C iPad you can just get a USB C Hub (This is what I use with mine). Just plug the Real Tone cable in and it will work, I use mine sometimes with Garageband on my iPad.
I realize from this response you won't find it that helpful, but I also have no issues with the RTC cable on USB 3 ports running Windows 10. I actually haven't heard anyone else mention this issue up until now. So, while I doubt I'll get more than a snarky response, it might actually be something worth looking into resolving.
I know my previous motherboard that came out pretty close to the time that USB 3.0 ports started showing up had really dodgy ports, maybe it's that? I had to order one of these for that motherboard to get an Oculus Rift to work right, also due to power issues.
If you're looking for a guitar, I 100% recommend buying a used better one than a new cheaper one. It’s not uncommon to get a guitar that would cost $600+ brand new, for $300 or less.
I toyed around with different guitars from Amazon buying them new, but you're better off getting a used Fender/Epiphone. I personally don't mind paying a little extra to get used gear from Guitar Center, since the return policy is easy... but people often get good buys from Craigslist & eBay too.
Apart from that, all you really need is the game and a Rocksmith Real Tone Cable (there are cheaper alternatives but the official one will save some hassle).
If you plan on playing standing up, I can't recommend enough getting some cheap strap locks like these. You'll find out eventually that your guitar comes off your strap much easier than you'd think. These things are basically rubber washers that make that very unlikely to happen.
The amp you can always get later... and the Real Tone Cable works nicely with Guitar Rig 5 Player (free) so you can basically turn your PC into a amp for quiet & private headphone practicing. I know when I was starting out I always practiced with headphones because I was pretty self conscious, and Guitar Rig is perfect for that.
If you are suggesting adding the connector to the long cable side. It's a male not a female connector. The guitar itself has the female on it. If you have a place to get this locally or amazon is what you want. https://www.amazon.com/Solder-Straight-Connector-Speaker-Microphone/dp/B07GD2WDDQ . I have never used these just showing an example of what you want.
Get some twist on wire connectors (wire nuts) fix it and just use electrical tape so it wont be ripped apart easily. You might just have some wire nuts laying around. If you want to make it pretty then solder it back together.
Amazon has the game + cable (remastered PC version) for $29.99.

Self-delusion mostly. Also, the Developing Your Musicianship class on Coursera (by Berklee College of Music) was a good primer on music theory.
I play with this gaming headset, which I got through bestbuy.com. It was on sale for under $30. It's serves me well for Rocksmith, Battlfield 3, etc., as well as late-night Netflix (while the gf sleeps 2 feet away from the couch). It's eliminated the lag problem, at least for my purposes.
It's an option if you've been considering a gaming headset. It comes with the appropriate analog cables. I don't usually use BestBuy.com, and I recommend NewEgg or Amazon over them.
its price fluctuates a lot.. sometimes down to 19 bucks depending where you get it from (it still activates on steam), and often the price drops during the steam sales.. especially the summer ones

currently the uplay version (not steam afaik) is 17 euro

Try this website, you type a game into it's database, it scans your computer for hardware, and tells you whether your computer is good enough to run it. If I remember correctly it might have you download a small file to get the program to run but it's really straight-forward.
The big things I can come up with that have happened in recent years in the music business is the stance towards mp3s (I remember them wanting to forbid ripping cds), towards lyrics and towards covers. A few years ago, all those things were considered illegal but had a community of people doing it anyway without talking about it.
In the case of mp3s, the industry has pretty much embraced it and found ways for people to get their digital music. iTunes, spotify and Youtube all legally provide music for us. Which is a long way from the early days of Napster.
In the case of lyrics, the labels these days provide lyrics videos and websites like genius.com use these to annotate and explain song lyrics. Which is a long way from all the shutdowns that happened to lyrics sites.
And covers, remixes, etc are ubiquitous these days, you can go on Youtube or soundcloud and find 100s of them for the current hits. That's very different from 20 years ago when sampling was used as the legal hammer against hip hop music.
So I am hopeful that in a few years, music transcriptions (not just guitars, but also drums, keyboards, samples, etc) will have gone the same way and be a collaborative effort supported by the creators of the music.
I am however aware that there were legal battles fought everywhere and Ubisoft want to avoid that and I fully support that goal. But I also support CustomsForge and their ambitions to open up the whole world of music to guitar players everywhere.
This is a latency issue.
Windows PC are not very good with audio. there's a reason why mac is dominant in the audio world and rocksmith runs smooth no issues with it.
The problem is the buffer. you would do much better to change the on-board audio driver. for pc i would recommend installing ASIO4ALL and then adjust the buffer size.
PSA for all about buffer size (i did 2 degrees in audio engineering)
Having a large buffer size reduces the amount of strain on your cpu. but causes a lot of lag. especially where input/output in concerned
Anything above 10ms latency is noticeable.
Having a low buffer size causes more strain on your cpu but with little to no lag.
what you need to do is find a good balance
128 / 256 are usually a good point for low latency.
Disclaimer: I suck at playing the guitar, take my advice with a huge grain of salt.
You are going to have problems with finding locating strings with a pick until you've internalized their relative positions, and that takes a lot of practice. Anchoring your hand will also help, as noted previously.
One practice tip I've used is to say the number/name/color (whatever you prefer) of a random string, then try to pick it without looking. Once you successfully picked it, choose another string in the same manner, pick it, and repeat. If you're having a hard time choosing strings, then you can use this number generator to generate any number of values in the range of 1 to 6. That'll also force you to look away from the guitar.
Finally, I'll give the opposite recommendation of Maghook: When I started out, it was suggested to me that I used something like the Dunlup Jazz III (i.e. a small, hard pick), and that suggestion has served me well. I've tried different types of picks, but always come back to the Jazz IIIs for fast picking.
Also, to unlock Quick Pick Dash it seems that you just need to play the Tremolo Technique Challenge once (source).
There is a tab converter for the first game which works very well but I'm not sure if has been updated for the RS 2014 file format yet.

I currently use FFsplit. It's free, lightweight, and can record multiple sources and arrange them on the canvas any way you like. Also doesn't try to sell you anything on the side. PM me if you want help setting it up. The camera is a cheap and slow Microsoft 1407 webcam, that doesn't do more than 640x480 and maybe 10fps. It has a nice side effect of motion blur of my fingers, feels like I'm a fat Bruce Lee, too fast for the camera.
Previous recording setups:
I have tried the Raptr GVR recording (the other video on my channel), but it's barely configurable and requires to launch an in-game overlay (a poor man's Steam in-game access). Last month after a driver update it stopped working, telling me my video card is too old for video recording. Raptr, you're a lying bitch.
Steam doesn't offer in-game recording, just streaming, and it's just the game window and a chat (no webcam), available to beta Steam users only, buried in the Community tab.

This opens Rocksmith files, can fispay as tab and export as midi
Someone already posted Rocksmith to tab if you already have guitar pro, tux first or similar, which is another option.
I don't use MacOS on a regular basis so I'm not entirely sure. Two similar programs that I do know of are FileJuicer and SilentEye, but I'm not sure if they'll work with these puzzles.
Get the Mac release: https://sourceforge.net/projects/rocksmithtotab/files/Releases/RocksmithToTab_v0.9.9.tar.gz/download You'll also need to have the Mono runtime installed: http://www.mono-project.com/download/
Then just extract the RocksmithToTab files somewhere and run RocksmithToTabGUI.

I was worried about latency, but there's no more latency on it than on the Xbox One with optical output. A little tweaking in the RS game and it's just great!
Got it, so the main difference between what he sent, this, and the ABY I posted at the start is just that since I don't need the "A/B" and only the Y I can achieve the Y from a regular tuner pedal and also get the tuner function, right?
Hello! I use this Digital Optical to Analog converter and have had zero lag. I found it looking for "Rocksmith PS4 lag fix" on Youtube. I use headphones, but I've seen some people use Logitech speakers or even their guitar amp without issue.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KNNSKV0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also, just making sure, do you have the HDMI cable from the PS4 running into your Home Theater/Soundbar or into the TV? I think having both the HDMI and the Optical running to the same system (Home Theater/Soundbar) can mess up the signal.
My setup is HDMI to TV, optical to my analog converter. I also mute the TV because the PS4 outputs sound through both cables, no matter if you choose Optical Only.
Hope this helps!!
It’s the same as the Xbox breakaway cable. You can order one of those.

I'll try to answer as many as I can.
I'm not sure about this one, as I don't have Windows 10. I do have Windows 8, and Rocksmith runs fine on it, so I don't think there should be a problem.
I'm 99% sure that this guitar has a 1/4 inch jack, since it's an entry level guitar from a fairly popular company.
I don't have an answer for this one. There might be a way to play Rocksmith through an amp.
Amazon. Also, you can buy it on Ubisoft's website, though I'm not sure if you can get it in the UK. http://shop.ubi.com/store/ubina/en_US/pd/productID.333132500
Playing is going to be painful at first. Don't give up, because your fingers will eventually develop callouses. Also, don't be afraid to suck at playing. Nobody was able to shred the first time they played guitar. Also, get your guitar set up at a music store. It will make a world of difference in how the guitar feels and plays.
Good luck with your journey into the world of guitar!
The G30's run about $170 on Amazon. Not super cheap, but maybe cheaper than accidentally damaging a USB port.
There are some other wireless systems that go for under $100, but I don't know if they work as well as the G30.
Not sure what your budget is, but I love my Roadie tuner. They are $100 on Amazon right now but I have seen them as lightning deals in the past.
I just saw this on amazon (non-affiliate link), seems like a great deal within your budget and it's got very positive reviews so far. Definitely a steal at $99.99.
You need to look for "pure sine wave" inverters. Here's the first one that came up when I searched, but that's more Watts than you need, so you can probably find a cheaper one. Edit: Like this one Edit 2: Actually, some of the comments there would make me wary of that particular one. You should spend some time researching whatever you decide to buy.
I'd check the comments on Amazon for any one you're thinking of buying, to see if anyone has commented on noise problems. On Amazon, you can also ask questions, and they'll email it to people who bought the product. You might get an answer that way.
I don't know whether using the Real Tone cable will make a difference, and it's kind of expensive to test ($30 for the cable). Maybe start another thread, with the title asking about power inverter noise issues. You might catch the eye of someone who has some experience in this.
This is the one I use. Works great, and doesn't require power unless you just want the LED indicator to work. Looks like that particular one is backordered on Amazon right now, though.
My setup on the pedal: A is the Rocksmith cable to console/PC, B is the input from guitar through DT pedal, Y is out to the amp
This Schecter for beginners seems to have a good rating at amazon. The black one's on sale.
I did the same as what you want to do. Bought the games on Steam, and ordered the cable through Amazon. I am extremely happy with it so far.
>but I'm deathly scared of any lag between plucking the string and it being detected by the game.
You won't notice any input lag when playing. The note recognition system is pretty well done and it will register as soon as you pluck. So no problem there. Now there is latency in the sound your guitar reproduces trough the game. You play a note, and you hear it with some delay. It is very little, but it still can be distracting and it might get you confused. It is very important that you listen to yourself in real time while you play.
What I do is that I got a direct box like this one to split the signal. One cable goes to the computer for Rocksmith, and the other one goes straight to an amp so I can hear myself without any latency. This is a very common setup in recording studios. Playing with an AMP has other advantages like the fact that you can listen to yourself more clearly and have a better idea of how you would sound in real world scenarios. Just beware that for connecting your amp to the box you will need a 1/4'' Male to XLR Female cable.
> without the studio guitar track
In that case you don't want any audio from the game, since the studio guitar will always be in that mix.
You have 2 real options, line out from pc to an aux in on your amp (if it has an ipod input for eg) then headphones plugged into the amp. In practise this can frequently have weird noise issues however, becuase the PC is grounded and so is the amp - it may not always sound right.
The "correct" way to do it is with a 2 channel mixer. Feed amps headphone out into one channel and the games audio out into another (stereo) channel. You would then use the mixer to adjust the levels of what you want to hear from each source. A quick hunt on Amazon brings this up - its along the lines of what you'd want for this task.
I think on the output side from your guitar you might be able to get away with just a Y connector, since pickups have a high output impedance. They do sell ABY switches, which are designed for this purpose though https://www.amazon.com/OSP-Guitar-Amplifier-Selection-Switch/dp/B004VFTSO4/ref=sr_1_4?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1510606280&sr=1-4&keywords=guitar+aby
For mixing headphone outs, I found this on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/JUST-MIXER-Audio-DJ-Mixer/dp/B01LPT8KQA/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1510605779&sr=8-13&keywords=headphone+mixer Annoyingly, you'd probably need to buy a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter to mate your amp headphone out to the mixer.
I have not tried either of these products, so I don't know if they are any good, it's not a recommendation, just an idea to steer you in the right direction. You may be able to find cheaper or better alternatives.
Amazon is fine. Just get this guy:

Then whatever 10’ cable tickles your fancy. I wouldn’t spend more than $10 or $12 on one though.
Any decent PC speakers.
I play on my TV and just route the signal to the soundbar.
These work fine on my home PC. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075CRYDC5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
"Good quality" is subjective. But you're also listening to heavily compressed streams... Your choice. I wouldn't gig with my computer speakers, but it still sounds like Weezer when I'm playing Rocksmith.
I use a pair of powered studio monitors. I don't know that I would consider them super portable, but these are plenty loud enough to push the RS volume over my guitar amp if needed.
A fiio usb dac and a set of audio-technica ATH-M40x headphones.
Had a set of the old model for 4 years, dj, travel, gaming. Still going strong and comfy.
Not cheap but the quality is spot on and you will not feel let down.
You can buy a 6.3 to 3.5 mm adapter and plug your headphone directly to your keyboard. Amazon Link
I started in June and just bought my third, too!!
First was electric, second was acoustic, and this newest is an electric acoustic (which I now adore). I keep the acoustic at work so I can keep my fingers/mind busy there.
Assuming this is the track you own - https://steamdb.info/app/369766/
You can try placing the appid for that dlc into the box on the appid updater page. If that doesn't work, you'll need to edit the "RocksmithToolkitLib.SongAppId.xml" to add in the id fro the track you own.
Works out of the box with zero issues? You want the Rocksmith Realtone Cable.
this dongle #ad output the audio to external speakers or headphones
There are several ways, but one like this is the cheapest way to go. Be sure to get 'mono' or "TS" rather than stereo or "TRS".
On a serious note (besides my comment below.....)
Practice scales, until you can use a few to solo over backing chord progression tracks. Do finger warmup exercises, chromatic exercises are excellent when first starting to build your finger dexterity with your fretting hand. USE A METRONOME!!! This cannot be stressed enough! I used to a have a subscription to Guitar Pro software years ago, and I mostly used the metronome on it for chromatics, unless I was downloading tabs off Ultimate Guitar website (when that was still free in GP4 or 5 format). Metronome will and should become your best friend when practicing chromatics. I like to warm up nowadays by playing the Pentatonic scale in a few varying positions, but for YEARS I did chromatic exercises to build my fretting hand dexterity.

This book is an amazing resource, I gifted my copy of it to my younger cousin and it has helped us both quite a lot!
Most important of ALL: NEVER GIVE UP! Breaks are permitted of course, but just stick with it and you shall reap the rewards! :)
Is this the pedal you got?
New strings, clean the fretboard (I use gorgomyte), tighten any loose nuts/screws at the minimum.
Then do a basic setup. Sure you could take it to a shop but you are better off in the long run understanding your guitar and making the changes yourself -especially if you like no-buzz/low-action. Because the lower the action, the quicker weather changes will affect the setup and the more often you'll need tweaks.
Check the truss rod by putting a capo on top of the first fret, then fret the low E on the last fret. Use a thickness gauge and check for a .010" gap between the bottom of the low e string and the top of the 8th fret. Adjust the truss rod until you have that gap.
Remove the capo.
Then check the "action" by measuring the distance between the bottom of each e string and the 17th fret. You want it about 5/64" on low e and a little less than that on high e. Adjust the bridge until you see this gap.
Check the action at the nut - you want .020-.022 at the first fret without fretting. Higher than that and you will need lots of strength for a F-Chord and might have sharp notes on the first few frets.
Now fret every note on the guitar. If there is a buzz, you have a high fret (or a neck issue) you can raise the bridge (and thus the action) until the buzz is gone, take it to a shop or buy the tools and re-level the frets.
Check intonation with a chromatic tuner (the guitartuna app has one, or get a strobotuner for accuracy) by tuning each string perfectly then playing each string at the 12th fret. that note should be perfectly in tune, if not adjust your intonation screws.
Here is a tool set that will help, it even has a book with all the directions. I got mine off eBay for $29.
My solution was to use a usb-to-headphone adapter, like the Sabrent Adapter.
I really wanted to make it work through my home theater speakers, but I couldn’t ever get it just right. Using this adapter with a long usb cable and some good wired IEMs, I output all game audio through headphones in the quick menu, and it has virtually eliminated my lag. I haven’t tried it, but using a portable speaker or sound bar could possibly work as well
It’s an extra few steps/hassles to get it working, but ever since I tried this adapter, I’ve been lag-free and all my scores/mastery levels have gone way up

This one is a good low-cost decent one.
Trust me do not go the microphone route. It is doable, but a much better and arguably cheaper solution is to buy an acoustic pickup like this one that will plug directly into the rock smith cable, essentially reading your acoustic as an electric guitar. This allows the highest possible accuracy for acoustic guitars, allows you to have access to all electric guitar only functions in the game such as adjusting the guitars tone in game. It also is cheaper in the long run as you will need the cable eventually. The pickup should only be around 20 bucks so this is a better and cheaper solution to the microphone imo.
The easiest option is the Rocksmith Real Tone cable. It will work out of the box with no additional software, and typically minimal configuration. https://www.amazon.com/Rocksmith-Real-Audio-Cable-Ubisoft/dp/B07RYFWYGC
why don't they just make a rocksmith 2023 with updated software and hardware? Wireless receivers like these. 5.1 support, QOL, new songs... just do what you did before but update and I'll buy!
But I'm not subscribing to shit.
If your cord is too short and damaged try splicing one of these [Here].
If you do get one of those cords make sure to cut off the end with the white header piece and re-strip the jacket to reach the ground/shield since you'll need it for CG if you don't want hum or other issues.
Also i would very much suggest you buy one of these latency is bad if you don’t. It does not have to be this brand its just an example.

If you get that guitar (or any other guitar) consider going to your local shop and getting the guitar 'set up.' which is like a tune up for a car to make sure the car is in working order.
Here's the youtube for the Squire you are looking at. You don't have to do this yourself but if you watch the video on 2x, you can see what you are playing for. Start with the strings as low as possible if you can.
Suggestions.... get very light strings (Super Slinky Linky) and your new guitar fingers will love you. You can always go heavier later. You can also get those at your local guitar shop.
I play with lots of different headphones just fine....as u/Guddler said, watch the volume, I always turn the guitar on, then play before I put the earphones on.
If your cable stops working for any reason........buy a new one. Don't buy a hub, don't try and troubleshoot. The cable is going to be broken (I'm 6 cables in from the start of Rocksmith, but I'm probably 20 hours into trying to troubleshoot a broken cable with computer mods, which was a waste of time.... just buy the new cable.)
It bugs me that the deadline link shows incorrect time, should be something like this:
Some of the other suggestions here, which involve running a line back from the laptop to the amp.
Or just pick up a decent set of speakers if you're willing to spend a bit of money. I have this 400W Logitech system and it sounds great, much better than my amp (which is only 15W or something).
Lots of options that have already been mentioned, but a cheap tuner pedal with 2 outputs is the simplest/most useful way to start out IMO. An ABY pedal will do the job, but you might as well get an inline tuner for the price.
2014 Real Tone cable works fine on Xbox Series X.
In the past, I used optical out from Xbox One console into a Turtle Beach wireless headset transmitter and then plugged wired headphones into its headphone jack. Since there's no optical out on Series X so I've been using the adapter before. It eliminates the Turtle Beach device and works great. No lag. I've tracked up

So, that's not true.
Linked here is an adapter that hooks up to an xbox 360, which allows for midi in on console. RBPRO drums are remarkably popular on console, no modification needed. Furthermore, Guitar hero 5 and beyond allowed for this as well, natively on the drumset itself. If you're on the xbox one, I don't know if that still works, but as far as I recall it should.
Sorry are you looking for the same info I was asking? If so Ive found that an HDMI to Optical splitter then a DAC to headphones/Speakers is playable.
Here's the HDMI splitter I'm using.
this is the exact listing i bought (was on sale for $9 two weeks ago, now its $10.50)

i have two realtone cables but i bought this one as a spare and to just see if it works. for years ive listened to people say they dont work. so i bought two realtone cables in the past. 2 weeks ago i decided to stop listening to people here who obviously have no idea what they are talking about and but that one. it works fine and i use it pretty much every day
im using an xbox one S all digital. ive also tried it on a regular xbox one (og version).
My "low latency" setup is essentially a "no latency" setup, where I use an A/B/Y pedal, -or- wireless.
NOTE: In both cases, it's imperative you go into the mixer settings in RockSmith and turn the guitar/bass audio volume to 0. You won't want RS to try and produce any audio from what it hears from the real tone cable.
My 2 ways of doing it:
