Cameras on smartwatches aren't a big thing. None of the mainstream watches include them because they make the watch bigger/use battery/etc. Samsung even dropped theirs in favor of a slimmer design. You're asking a lot for a sub $200 smartwatch. You get everything you wanted minus the camera on the Moto 360 Sport - $200(on sale for $180)

For a smartwatch to have a camera it's going to be bulked up a bit. Look at the Samsung Gear 2, from what I remember (my manager had one when I had my old job 2 years ago) it was bulky and unattrative.

Like I said 200 dollars is a relatively low budget for smartwatches when the moto 360 starts at 300 (350 for the 46mm) and the Asus Zenwatch3 will start at ~229 Euros (around $250 USD if direct conversions are to be believed.

If she can drop the need for a camera (smartwatch cameras were never really great) you can pick up a Moto 360 sport for a pretty solid deal right now off Amazon (linked above).

I think any step counter on your wrist is going to have difficulty with step accuracy, and they should be viewed as "activity monitors," not step counters.

The exposed brass pins on the first watch are the charging/data pins. That is where you attach the charger and they usually aren't covered up. I believe the charger for that watch is a kind of clip that clips over the side of the watch and holds the relevant wires against the pins. The little cover on the back of the Galaxy Active watch is a data testing port. You don't use it as a consumer, it is just there for testing in case your watch become damaged or needs warranty repairs.

The Galaxy watches charge wirelessly however they only really work with wireless chargers specifically designed for the watch. You can't just throw them down on any wireless phone charging pad to charge (unfortunately).

I totally understand, I wish I had better advice for you but watches that have that ability such as the Samsung Galaxy, Apple Watch, Fossil Explorer, or Ticwatches all run usually in the $200+ range and don't have nearly the battery life.

Having said this, the Ticwatch E is actually on sale right now via Amazon for $129, and it is going to be your cheapest option with the ability to reply to messages as well as most of the things you are looking for. Definitely worth checking out! As long as you dont mind the Google OS and a shorter battery life (~2 days) it might work for you!

Well, not really. Out of the box, no. There are some third party options, but don't seem to be any that run solely on the watch. The most popular, Sleep As Android, has Wear OS integration so it should work with the watch; I've never tried it though. Also, not sure if the battery would even make it through the night unless you charge during the day. Here's a thread about Wear OS sleep-tracking.

Some faces will allow you to have a more complete face even in ambient mode. And you can also use StayLit to keep the display on longer (although it will impact battery life - for reference, Apple Watches turn the display off entirely rather than having an ambient mode).

That said, it's not really a core use case / intended use of a Smartwatch FWIW. It's not a very good application of one. I also ride a motorcycle. I either use Voice navigation (turn by turn to my bluetooth headset), and/or I use my phone in a charging cradle, which I have mounted behind my windscreen (it also acts as a "dash cam then" which is great). I suggest looking into that as both work better than glancing at your watch will.

To do this, you need what's called a standalone smartwatch, which isn't a very popular form factor. Most smartwatches don't have GPS themselves, and in order to do this without your phone, you also need it's own cellular data connection. So these are basically cellphones on your wrist. They have their own SIM card slots.

There are only a few such watches. These are the ones I know off the top of my head:

• LG Urbane LTE

• Samsung Gear S

• Neptune Pine

• QOne Standalone

• Omate TrueSmart Standalone

IMHO the only ones worth considering at this point, are the top two. You'll notice that all of these are relatively large, heavy, and expensive. You are buying a watch sized cellphone, not really a smartwatch.

Check out WearMedia (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=qubin.de.wearmedia&hl=en), but I'm with /u/Protonus that it will kill the battery quickly. But if you want two devices instead of three, it's worth a shot before you buy a cheap MP3 player.

I created an app that lets you tag photos with a voice command (e.g. John's latest selfie) and later retrieve photos by just speaking commands (to your watch or phone). It also lets you send text messages or post messages to WhatsApp or Twitter by voice - just add "send text message", "post to whatsapp", or "post to twitter" at the end of your sentence.

Plug in the watch. If the LG boot comes up then the battery was just dead. If nothing happens then the watch is faulty.

You can also use an app called Wear Battery Stats to keep track of the battery life throughout the day. It will help you narrow down what is causing the battery drain.

Normally there is a settle down period for the battery. It should hold a charge better after the first full charge and discharge.

I decided it was better to purchase a used Samsung Watch instead, which is much more polished.

I would recommend the old (2017) Amazfit Bip (original), combined with the Notify & Fitness app, that allows to customize notifications in a very detailed way. Check the first link for all the details.

You can upload music files to your watch with FTP or ADB protocols. There is an app called NavMusic, which has a music player to play local files on your watch. It has an app for both the phone and watch, which allows you to transfer music files to the watch from your phone.

Amazfit might be a good choice. They do the Zepp E circle that I've seen people buy for $70 and is round, stainless steel, does that tracking, has 7 days battery. The GTR2e is another option, something like 3 weeks battery and it does have a fantastic screen for Always on faces.

I use the Amazfit Bip (original one, model A1608) with Notify & Fitness instead of MiFit or Zepp app. Notify & Fitness stores your data local, does not send anything to a server. You can however make back-ups on your devices, for instance to your Google Drive or to a Dropbox map, so you will not loose your data when you loose your phone.

Budget: $15, because the watch is from 2017 and sold a lot second hand, some of them like new. 30-45 days battery life, always on screen, very light and thin, waterproof ... but very poor HR sensor, mediocre GPS, only 4 sports modes ...

Garmins watches alow to switch off all the fitness features one by one using the settings in the app or even on the watch itself.

I use an old Amafit BIP combined with the Notify & FItness app and I can switch off all fitness tracking here too (is possible too with the Zepp Life app from Amazfit itself too I believe, but Notify & FItness allows to set different vibration patterns for different app notifications and a lot more).
