The virtual keyboard looks awesome! /u/majornelson we definitely need this to be implemented as an alternative XBOX keyboard... From my developer POV, this little feature would add many value without needing too much efforts.
GTA:V Witcher 3 Max Payne 3, metro redux, Fine Sweeper, Tomb Raider, Titan Attacks, Pac-Man Champion Edition DX+, Kung Fury and its movie, Tony Hawks Pro Skater HD, Shadow Warrior, and the Valve Complete Pack. [it can be had for $25 USD during sales]
Also if you like using controllers i suggest /u/felizk app Controller Companion its $3 on steam. just get it you'll thank me later.
I like what Controller Companion did, they had this spiral keyboard that was essentially a line, but you could go pretty fast to your character you want to type by just making circles with your joystick
get controllercompanion (http://controllercompanion.com/) also available on steam and you can use your xbox controller to do anything you want. Also check out Netflix Remote Controller (http://sticky-ux.com/apps/NetflixRemoteController/) - it hasnt worked well for me but its worked for many
JoyToKey , Xpadder and Controller Companion all can do that. Think Controller Companion is the cheapest, and JoyToKey has a limited functionality free trial.
Hey, thank you for your work. I have been using this for years, even Controller Companion does a good job in this regard. It's always nice to have options. I'm gonna take a shot on your software :)
http://controllercompanion.com I have been using this little app for Bigscreen and my steam link at home and it has been awesome. If you hit start and select it swaps between emulating a mouse and keyboard or back to your normal controller mode which is great for jumping in and out of games on Bigscreen. Also it has implemented the best typing system I have ever seen on a gaming console or computer.
Get this: http://controllercompanion.com/
and do this: http://www.pcworld.com/article/2054380/disable-windows-logon-password.html
That should get you to a point where you won't need a mouse/keyboard
It's not on the Antichamber hub, it's on the Controller Companion hub.
You wouldn't be able to wake it up from a fully shut down state without some sort of Wake on LAN dongle, or if your BIOS has a wake on USB feature, but to just wake up the PC from hibernation or sleep is easily doable with any controller.
Someone wrote up a little guide here.
If by chance you have an LG tv with WebOS there's also LGTVCompanion that can be set up to turn off and on the tv synonymous with the sleep and wake state of the pc.
I use Controller Companion to navigate into games without a mouse or kb. Works great.
I am not sure how well that would go over since some OpenBOR games are built on different versions of the engine and can be incompatible with each other. If the OpenBOR exe is always seen as the same file by Windows even when you launch different games you might be able to create one a custom profile in something like Controller Companion and tell it to always use that profile when launching the OpenBOR exe.
For the controller to keyboard/mouse program, I used Controller Companion - http://controllercompanion.com/ -
I can't say if it's the best; I was happy enough with it that I didn't try anything else.
Here is how I mitigate these issues:-
> What happens when a game starts in windowed mode?
I haven't personally seen a game do this yet but my controller has a hotkey to force close active window + Controller companion to force fullscreen
> What happens when Windows tries to run updates?
Either install a Windows 10 decrappifier and disable updates from there, or use Windows 10 LTSC or use a custom Windows 10 build (Lite versions that have nothing but basic functionality)
I personally prefer running Windows 10 LTSC, updates are security-only and they happen when you shut down or switch on. Never in-between.
> What happens when you need to install a driver?
Video drivers? Now this can be annoying but thankfully we have Controller Companion to help out. Any other drivers? Chocolatey takes care of it.
> GamerOS gives you a fully console-like experience out of the box, no keyboard or mouse needed except during installation. The trade-off is less game compatibility than Windows, but that is something that improves every day.
And I love it. I'd rather go with the easy-to-setup method but as you said for now it's not at a 100% which makes it not worth the switch.
If you want to play games with KB+M, I guess you need a laptop and play on the kitchen table or something, because KB+M works terribly on the couch.
Assuming you want to play on your couch with a controller (I like the xbox 360 controller a lot), I suggest a mini ITX system - I like the SG13 because it's cheap, widely available, and extremely small, while supporting large components.
Then add controller companion to control your PC (3€).
If you have a controller, you could launch the game through Steam and use a controller config to move the cursor with your analog stick and map keyboard keys to your controller buttons.
There is also Controller Companion if you don't want to use Steam. Also available on Steam, though.
Finally, as was already said, the Steam Controller is the best type of controller for games designed for mouse and keyboard. With its trackpads you can play those games rather comfortably.
I have been using this controller https://www.geekalerts.com/cideko-air-keyboard-conqueror/
And this program http://controllercompanion.com
Left bumper changes all my other buttons for lots of options. Holding left stick is Alt for quick looting. I also use my right thumb to easily press many of the keyboard buttons.
It took a little getting use too' but i love it now.
Yeah, I know, but I have a slight weakness in my left hand which makes using WASD pretty much a no-go :( I bought this cool bit of software for peanuts that crowdsources key mappings and applies them automatically to games that don't support controllers: http://controllercompanion.com/ It's cool because it also just lets you control your PC using your controller :) I have wireless pads but they're shit and often don't work so it's a good workaround for me.
Thanks for the advice!
I really like using the Controller Companion app when streaming. It has all the features you would need from a mouse + keyboard, and turns itself off when launching a full-screen game (start+back manually), very handy.
Use the 360 controller as a mouse and keyboard. There are probably some decent free software for this, but I use Controller Companion, it's on Steam.
Yeah ALT+Enter and ALT+ALT aren't working. I found a thread suggesting I can run the DX9 file from the directory to get it in full screen. This works but is obviously inconvenient from a Steam perspective.
As for the controller I tried changing to the pre-Windows 10 files and it didn't help. I'll try downloading the x360e program you mentioned, but one theory I have is that I have this program going on as well. It automatically disables when a full screen game runs though, so it technically shouldn't be interfering.
I'll try x360e and then make a list of the games that are having issues and get back to you.
Thank you for all your help!
Controller Companion is a great tool for using a controller on your pc, dont know if you can bind certain keys though, but if you dont have a mouse, this program will help if you're just using a controller atm.
