Basically a tool to automatically download a movie as soon as it is released in your preferred version. Originally it only supported Usenet, but they have implemented the use of Torrents.
New version is live! I named it 3.0.0, just because. You can find it at https://couchpota.to/ of course. But the auto-updater should do its magic.
Please let me know if you find any issues in the new GUI via Github Issues.
Full changelog: https://github.com/RuudBurger/CouchPotatoServer/compare/build/2.6.3...build/3.0.0 if you like that sort of thing.
So I finally found a fix for this here. It seems like the last profile line in Settings -> Searcher -> Qualities, defaults to a blank.
To fix this: change the last line in every profile to say "+ Add another quality" and untick the finish checkbox.
My config now looks like this and I no longer get the errors.
So a lot of people love Filebot. I've used it and it's free, simple, and does its job really well.
I personally just have sonarr and couchpotato do my renaming after download.
edit: links.
Also, I know you said a different scraper, but one thing I've found is if you organize and name stuff properly, you never have issues, with any program, so it's best just to rename it properly. If you have a bunch of stuff already and want to do batch renames, filebot is your solution. There are also scripts for it to automatically rename new stuff.
I use Sonarr which works with Usenet but you can use it without Usenet. Set it up, show Sonarr where all your tv shows are located and it will automatically scan the drive. You will receive background image (if available), poster and xml (episode description) files.
For movies, Couchpotato works similar to Sonarr.

Practically any tracker will allow you to login to the site from your dedicated server as long as you ask for permission before. The reason for that is that the IP address is dedicated to you and you would have to guarantee only you have access to the server.
After that, you could tunnel via VPN/SSH or what have you.
While not exactly an alternative, Couch Potato is awesome. Choose the movie you want, the quality you want it in, and it'll download it and put it in a folder you specify.
Also, if you install the browser extension, you can browse to a movie's IMDB page and have Couch Potato download it for you immediately. Saves a lot of time searching for a download yourself!
Sickbeard for tv
Couchpotato for movies
They are more suited for usenet but both should work with torrents if you configure a watch folder in your torrent client (every .torrent in that folder gets added in your client automatically)
lol oops. Did you get a "strike" for that?
Sickbeard and Couchpotato are cool if you're looking for automation. They rename all your files very nicely and grab metadata for XMBC and others!
It's not much better that torrents for new stuff, but usenet is pretty good for older movies and for hooking up automated downloads. Couch Potato is a good service based automatic movie downloader that works with bt and usenet, it takes some setting up, but it works well.
I followed this guide:
https://couchpota.to/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1477
But with sonarr, I couldn't change the user as in the guide, so I went and used the 'nzbdrone' for all the other tools like nzbget and couchpotato as well. But then, every program had read and write access to the paths and it worked like a charm.
My friend isn't aware of any disabling from ISPs in his country, but your mileage may vary..
atleast downloading is a breeze with sabnzbd, couchpotato, sonarr and an indexer like nzbgeek.info
I assume you are using Windows as your host operating system.
For backup i would recommend CrashPlan and set it up as a client that can receive backups - quite straightforward when you got it downloaded and installed. This is completely free.
I don't think you are able to host a minecraft server without problems when the server is doing something else CPU intensive at the same time.
I guess you're talking about /r/Piracy, therefore i link you there and to https://couchpota.to and https://plex.tv.
Hey thanks for the question!
Mostly internet DVR using the programs Sickbeard, SABnzb+, and couchpotato.
Sickbeard: you tell it what tv shows you want to follow and it will fetch the usenet article as soon as it is avalable (.nzb file). Then it will send that .nzb file to SABnzb+ which facilitates the download. SABnzb+ will also follow the naming and sorting of the downloads as determined by Sickbeard.
couchpotato: essentially the same thing but with movies. one cool feature is you can set it to automatically download any movie on rated rottentomatos past X year and above Y% rating.
All of these programs can be remotely controlled from your smartphone.
Also I use it as a regular desktop as well since these programs are relatively light weight and run in the background.
I don't see that particular option in the renamer. You'd probably be better off asking in the couchpotato forums though.
Edit: While not exactly what you're looking for, this might be of use.
Une combinaison de binnews, binsearch et nzbindex, éventuellement avec des userscripts pour chercher automatiquement. Sinon, il y a Couchpotato et sickbeard pour automatiser le tout.
C'est vrai que c'est moins simple que BT.
> I feel like you don't understand the difference between legitimate open source projects and ones that are designed to do illegal things
You mean like this addon?
Is there some legal use for downloading movies from Usenet? Does this website scream "legal" use?
It only seems to be clueless users who think this has anything to do with legal/illegal, when it actually is simply about third party unsupported addons. There are a great many third party addons banned from discussion that are 100% legal. They are not supported by the Kodi team, repo or forums though.
> XBMC foundation gets more and more heat due to the bad press it gets from pirate addons, and eventually they will cave and make installing addons not from the official or approved repos impossible.
I really doubt that, but anything is possible. They could go full closed source and commercial as well. So far, at least, their goals have remained aligned enough with the addon community. They just have a harsh policy on mentioning what you are doing with it. Bittorrent, Inc. has the same policy, and we haven't lost them. Not that anyone should use their software, but just as an example.
These addons are most definitely not some surprise new thing, regardless of how the Kodi devs may act. Kodi as a way to view pirated media has always been its thing, as well as its original ability which was to allow playing pirated xbox games. Piracy is deeply ingrained into the project culturally.
The Kodi official repo has addons such as the Couchpotato one. A pure piracy addon. In fact, go to their site https://couchpota.to/ and have a look. It has ads, is obviously about piracy, has affiliate links to VPN's and so on. Its just as bad as TVaddons ever was. It is also officially supported and endorsed by the Kodi team.
In the end though, the project is an open source, volunteer driven endeavor. Each person does it for their own reasons, and could leave at any time. You really can't trust any of them any more than any other random devs out there, they can be just as insane and self-serving. But as a whole, open source survives these things.
Theres no ending the whiney users, unfortunately, its always been the case. There are bad users in every open source project out there, some really toxic ones at that. I don't think it will be the end of Kodi, but you never know. The Linux kernel is also a volunteer driven, open source project, with outsiders making billions off their hard work. It still gets developed.
CouchPotato. Sonarr does the same thing for TV shows. I've automated everything a few years back with those two programs and barely need to add anything manually anymore. :)
I believe you can use a list if you use one of the automated options to import IMDB lists and the like.
As for mass delete, it seems that might be a feature request: https://couchpota.to/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2530
Yes, yes and yes. Also yes.
So, I'm guessing you're talking about Television as your weekly downloads you consume? In that case, you should look into getting yourself Sickbeard, Sonarr or Couch Potato, as you are setting your choice up you will learn how it all works and what you need to do to be automated, all of this can run on your local computer, or in a virtual machine, or on something like a raspberry pi, if you have a NAS a lot of them also come with the above software to do it for you.
When it comes to the indexers, there are quite a few around, I believe that the above programs suggest some good ones when you install them, I personally use nzbgeek and it gives me everything I need, it also uses https, so it's encrypted.
same boat as you...i have 16xx movies, and it originally found 21.....this was due to only SOME of my movies having <movie name> <year>.whatever. So i ended up having to find a program to scan/scrape all my movies and create .nfo's with the info couchpotato wanted. see here i ended up using this program to scan/scrape and create the .nfo files...so out of my 1690 movies, couchpotato NOW 1560....much improved from the 21, so pretty much couchpotato is picky and isnt like plex where it can have a movie title and figure it out, it needs a title + year it seems or just an nfo
So question, are you using this to rename downloads as they get downloaded? (I assume the answer is yes).
And what are you regularly downloading?
The reason I ask is Sonarr is really easy to setup for tv shows, can handle searching, downloading, renaming, moving, meta data, the whole 9 yards.
And there's Couchpotato for Movies.
Did you even bother to try a www search or a search over at the CouchPotato forums before posting here? These are just some of the first results I got when I did:
every movie is snatched!??! https://couchpota.to/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1648
Is there any way to download... all new movies? https://couchpota.to/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1292
Download high rated imdv movies https://couchpota.to/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1549
Basically it's pvr/dvr that works off of usenet (you can use torrents but it doesn't work nearly as well). https://couchpota.to/
Tldr, you search for show, add them to your watch list, cp searches your indexers, adds them to sabnbdz, and then it uppacks them and adds meta data in the format of your choosing.
I haven't used this in a while (had to get cable when I moved in with the girlfriend casue she likes the tv telling her what ot watch and making a playlist is too much effort.....) but 2 years ago it was slightly tricky to set up the first time but once you get it going was great.
Couchpotato is what I use. You put in the quality you want (like DVDRip or 1080p), it goes out and searches your indexers (torrents or newsgroups) and downloads the movies for you. It even has a plugin for IMDB so if you find yourself browsing it and want to add a movie you just hit the chrome extension and it adds it for you.
Sorry about the delay, however your question was eating away at me because I remember I'd browsed something that matched what you needed while compiling this list.
edit: Found it! Apparently quite a few options exist:
CouchPotato (great if you want to avoid dupes)
SickRage (please test this one out - my scant experience with TVDB has been 50/50.)
FlexGet (This was what was eating away at me, I've not used it BUT on the few IRC channels I'm on, I've heard only good things.)
I don't know :) but it's good to make something yourself in order to learn something from it!
In order to complete the list of already existing programs, there's CouchPotato for movies and Headphones for music.
I can't think of anything else tbh. My friend has a similar set up but runs on XEM and he doesn't have this issue. I haven't had the chance to play with XEM or Hyper V just yet so can't help much further unfortunately.
Can I ask why - if you have a machine running hypervisor - you are not running the software on the same VM that has the storage attached locally rather than over the network or running a linux VM instead?
I also think you should post the issue on the CouchPotato forum and git.
Movies - Couchpotato
Music - Headphones
Are also helpful. They all work well with torrents as well (including the above mentioned Sickrage).
There apps out there that do this.
For TV Shows : Sickbeard For Movies : Couch Potato
Might not be straightforward to set up but after that its plain sailing! I've set mine up two years ago and have only had to delete files since then to make space! :)
For TV: NzbDrone http://nzbdrone.com/ or Sick Beard (I use this) http://sickbeard.com/
For Movies: CouchPotato https://couchpota.to/
Takes time to configure them but they work great. They also work really well with Plex.
I would just go with programs like CouchPotato for Movies and Sick Beard for TV Shows. They both are meant for downloading new stuff, but you can have them reorganize an existing library. They will move and rename your files, and download the cover art and such for everything.
That's probably your easiest solution, plus you have helpful programs for "acquiring" anything new in the future.
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but I got around Transmission automation by installing Sick Beard and CouchPotato, which downloads TV and Movies into different folders automatically. Making links in Transmission may be redundant.
Why use beets over just dragging FLACs onto you device? Or Why use sickrage or couchpotato over just dragging MKVs onto you device?
Same thing: because I want my library to be organized and I want some metadata on my e-reader, like author’s name (and not J. R. R. Tolkien
for one book, John Ronald Reuel Tolkien
or just Tolkien
for the other), saga/collection, tags, publication date, etc..
Da.
I was focusing on being legal, but if he already owns the legal copies, then this is actually not a half bad idea. Would you recommend setting up a usenet/torrent situation through couchpota.to or something?
I already see where this is going. I decided a few months back to spend the 6 dollars on a Usenet account and set it up with https://couchpota.to and https://sonarr.tv. Now I don't have to get gouged by anyone.

Looks like it :( I was just sitting down to enjoy some TV I missed earlier this week.
I downloaded Couch Potato, based on suggestions from other subreddits. Haven't given it a shot yet.
> Also, just to be clear, the Kodi developers do NOT develop features to help pirate ANYTHING.
From the official repository: Couchpotato
Here is their website, just for reference. I'm not sure what is unclear about the piracy aspect here.
Kodi is about viewing media. In this current world we live in, almost all media must be obtained "illegally". Ripping a DVD is against the law in many places.
Certainly getting media from Usenet is piracy, is it not?
I get the distance from certain types of addons, but not the blanket ban on whole repo's.
There are addons I could mention here that will cause this post to be deleted, that have nothing to do with viewing any media in any way.
I don't want Kodi to die. Any more than I want the torrent protocol to die - Bittorrent Inc isn't being sued away, are they?
Hell, the XBMC forums used to be home to all these "pirate" addons. They were an integral part of the community. XBMC was used to pirate Xbox games, it was (and still is) a main feature of the xbox version of the software.
Piracy and Kodi are old friends. They just don't like each other these days for some dumb reasons.

What OS are you using (I'm assuming Windows)? The path of least resistence would be to find an add-on for your torrent client that will kick off an unrar command when a torrent completes, like this.
Another option would be to use CouchPotato to handle the unrar duties. Not sure what you're using to handle your RSS feeds, but if you're using something like Sonarr, you should be able to set it not to download RAR content to begin with.

you can try using along couch potato, it downloads your favorite tv shows and movies. The favorite movies is your part to make. Then build an HTPC with a FreeNAS server and a 3 Tb hard drive. You are going to build some networking skills, server skills etc. Its a great experience, even if your not going to use it you learn some thing

It's a weird permissions issue, which I'm trying to circumvent using Clinton.Hall's nzbToMedia. It looks promising, but right now I'm working through some bugs with him. It would be nice to get it working as it will mean I can finally disable the ever wonky renamer polling of Couchpotato.

Thank you for putting us on the right track. I think I fixed it by editing the following file:
%couchpotatoinstalldir%\application\Couchpotato-3.0.1.win32\couchpotato\static\scripts\combined.base.min.js
Open the file in Notepad, search for "donate.html". It should show you html code that looks like: <iframe src="https://couchpota.to/donate.html" style="border:none; height: 200px;" scrolling="no"></iframe>
Just remove the URL from the src (leaving only src=""), save and reload the Couchpotato settings page. It shouldn't load the invisible video anymore.
If you don't know what your couchpotato install directory is look under c:\User\%yourusername%\AppData\Roaming
There's another mention of that page in %couchpotatoinstalldir%\application\Couchpotato-3.0.1.win32\couchpotato\static\scripts\page\about.js but it doesn't seem to load the invisible video. You can still delete the link the same way in that file too to make sure though.

Not sure if you managed to get it working, but I decided to install Couchpotato again today and again I had the same connection error. Turns out it was a pretty easy fix and wasn't really "broken" in the first place. You need to check "allow remote connections" in Deluge, and add a new daemon user and password. This is where I found the fix: https://couchpota.to/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4158 Let me know if this helps! I'm so happy this works now, the new CP looks great!
I've had no luck whatsoever. I turned on my pc, and found that none of my packages are running.
For reference, I used this link previously to edit my permissions for each of those packages
https://couchpota.to/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1477
So basically, the package runs using one user called apps, and saves/reads files in folders owned by this one user.
When I tried to run them via the start-stop-status script, it says that the user doesn't exist.
So I went to control panel, and added the user, I then followed the steps in that link above and found that /etc/group ( I think), and /etc/passwd had changed, so I added the lines pointed out in the instructions above again in reference to those two files. I then changed the permissions for all the folders, and apps to the username/group like the instructions said (before this, after the update to 6.0, the username was 1027 instead of "apps".
After all this, when I reboot the synology box, I go back to control panel to find that apps has been removed from the user list and I'm back to square one. The new permissions, are back to 1027 instead of apps as well.
