Finally, same day shipping on that lathe i've been wanting.

Hasn't this been heavily debunked as junk science? looked it up here is a link. To be clear they are saying bringing them back was good and needed, but its not what caused the changes.
I agree that those two hikes would be too short. Good day hikes though. I would recommend driving up to Grandjean campground it's about 2 hours from Boise and you'll have a good place to leave your car. The Sawtooth lake loop is a good 18 miles with great views and lakes. Here's some info.
https://www.alltrails.com/explore/recording/grandjean-sawtooth-lake-loop--2
If you get up on the northeast side of the lake you will find great places to set-up your tent.
Also, clicking on that link will take you to our landing page where you can fill out a survey with your thoughts on the show but you can also navigate to the pages for the 4 other shows too.
Wow, I made it onto Wikipedia. I'm the first person in this video: http://videos.idahostatesman.com/vmix_hosted_apps/p/media?id=1724682

Don't you think there should be a waiting period to see what the insurance companies are going to pay first? If this child was covered under Obamacare than The maximum out-of-pocket cost limit for any individual Marketplace plan for 2015 can be no more than $6,600 for an individual plan.
I will support the GoFundMe site only when more accountability is avaiable.
Since yesterday we've gotten more than double the average Boise November snowfall. it's very unusual to have this kind of accumulation this early. The odds of there being ANY snow on the ground on 11/14 in Boise is less than 5%. The odds of there being this much on the ground at any point in November are far less than that. That's going to strain local resources some. The county worked overnight to cover the priority areas, but the more residential roads are going to take longer.

There is the Dump Loop. I personally don't like to ride by the dump because of the dump traffic and all the SUVs going to Hidden Springs. So, I take Hill Rd out to 55 and to Dry Creek Rd. It adds a mile or so but eliminates some climbing.
Check out the data from Jan 2017. Brr.
Is your anti-backflow above ground? Do you have any drip lines? If so, no chance you can skip it. I would assume any water left in a pop-up sprinkler is going to crack the plastic in a single freeze over night. I wouldn't risk it.
Now, if only they would rework the Ann Morrison diversion, and clean the concrete out of the Farmer's Union section the usable river path would run from Barber Park to the Glenwood bridge.
Also, here's an excellent report regarding the development and location of the park.
Residential property near that section of Boise/Garden City is still relatively cheap, and it is rapidly on its way to becoming a very desirable location.
Red Hands Black Feet. Boise post-rock (apparently most bands hate that label too). Watch their Facebook for shows, which usually occur at The Red Room or at the Neurolux.
He's an old fool who doesn't understand technology or how it can be used to help education. He thinks that buying tablets and online courses will somehow fix our problems, and in the end he just ends up flushing tax money down the drain. For what? Ipads in classrooms? What a derp.
Here's my suggestion: roll out Khan Academy in math classes (for a start). Here's a video of Salmon Khan himself explaining his pilot program in New Mexico classrooms. I love this idea of using technology to humanize the classroom. Luna's plan does the exact opposite...it dehumanizes it.
Selling points: Nonprofit organization. Endorsed by Bill Gates, one of the world's leading philanthropists and champion for improving education. Khan Academy is also the first winner of the $10M "Google Prize."
The movie 'Moving' has like one shot of Boise. Their car heading down Vista Ave. with a stand in driving instead of Richard Pryor.
This is the weirdest thing I've come across hiking in Boise. I'm still not quite sure what it is. There was half of an RV, a cinder-block building that was half finished and looked like it hadn't been worked on in years and an old, beat-up house/shack with an outhouse. It looked like it was abandoned but I didn't want to get close enough to find out for sure.
Yeah, you can watch it on PlayStation by going to the Latest TV category in the What’s Hot section of the PlayStation Store. Or by going to this link.
Probably an out-of-towner decided to stick it somewhere. I've never seen any of these around and it doesn't really match the area. Possibly northern Idaho.
EDIT: Possibly a local trying to make something happen. http://websta.me/n/whowouldjesuskill
Every now and then, I hear a boom. It’s been that way for years. Didn’t hear it this time, but it was probably the same thing.
Sounds like the booms I would hear in other parts of the country, near farms, that farmers would use to scare away animals.

It's a long one, but the trip up to Hell's Canyon is pretty scenic. The path up to McCall is nice, as well, and I love McCall in the off season. Further on is Garden Valley/Crouch, and there are some fantatsic Airbnb spots out there. (Stayed in https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/16872084 last time, was really impressed with the spring-fed hot-tub, nice amenities, etc.)
The drive out to Black's Creek is nice. Finally checked out the Fort Boise / Military Reserve park drive. Jump Creek is a fun trip.
The drive up Bogus Basin can be fun as well. While closer, the Lucky Peak drive can get interesting if you go further out, especially to the Arrowrock Dam. Further out, the Lake Owyhee State Park grounds with the tipis can be pretty scenic - http://oregonstateparks.org/index.cfm?do=parkPage.dsp_parkPage&parkId=10 - so much to do!
Yeah, you'd think that 30x would be more valuable, but part of it is convenience and cashflow.
20 guests staying for 20 nights total with some gaps between them in a month means I'm cleaning the house and laundering the sheets and intercepting people 20 times, and that that's 20 nights of payments split out over a month...
A guest staying for 20 nights, however, is one set of cleaning/prep, one interception, and I'm paid for 20 nights within 24 hours of them checking in.
Also, guests who can spring for 20-30+ nights in one fell swoop (whether self-funded or paid for by the company) tend to be cleaner, quieter, cause fewer problems... my spot is right downtown, so, I'll get people using the spot as a crash pad after partying downtown, for example. While I've never had a problem, I just can expect a certain consistency with longer-term guests. :)
That said, having hosted over 150 bookings or so, I've only had maybe 2 or 3 problems - pretty workable.
Good luck finding your spot! When I first started with HP out here, I was on stipend-housing - it's definitely nice to have that subsidy. If it's a smaller co & you're in direct contact with the HR contact that manages the stipend, they can actually book Airbnb for you and pay for it with Airbnb Business, or you can do one-click expensing - https://www.airbnb.com/business-travel - might be helpful!
Welcome to Boise! If I can help with anything, don't be afraid to PM. :)
October 21^st is the Great Pumpkin Launch in Nampa.
Just to be clear...you're asking me to prove that something you've never used is good/bad...Lol
Here's a reputable review:
Installing these products is straightforward, but by no means is it easy or clean. Kneeling in the snow and working in close proximity to a wet, cold, and dirty wheel well is no treat. Plus, it takes some muscle and patience to slip one of these products over the tire. All are intended for use on snow- and ice-covered roads only, and they have limited speed ranges of 25 mph (Michelin Easy Grip and ISSE) to 30 mph (AutoSock).
http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2016/01/snow-traction-when-you-need-it/index.htm
Doesn't sound any easier than chains to me.
That's specifically where we were. We never intend to go all the way to the top, though seemingly we didn't lol. We had never been to Bogus so I did not know there was a bunch more road upwards. I mean, I knew, but I did not really know what to expect from up there.
Viewing was pretty nice despite one major issue, which was other cars. We arrived (and were the only ones) to get there at dusk. We got to the marker at 9:10 PM and it was still pretty bright out. Got dark around 10 ish, and as soon as it did the cars just kept coming. I assume they were all there for the shower as well, because it was about 50 cars + and it was really a major disturbance with headlights constantly blaring at us.
Not sure how it could be avoided really, they were all going up to wherever.
Overall though the viewing was pretty good. You were able to see a good amount of stars and meteorites. We saw about 2 "incredible" ones, and about 10 "good" ones. We were up there for maybe 90 minutes.
tl;dr:
Left at 8, got there at 9, got dark around 10, lots of people, bright headlights suck at night, saw a decent amount of meteorites.
Check out Denver ...
There are no trails here that run the whole town. Even bike lanes start and stop. For a decent road ride I do this loop fairly often. Bike lanes most of the way, flat, lots of options to extend. Head west and go up biatch (can ada) or up emmett hwy to deep canyon and thru the really nice houses there. Or go east and take hill road to the various climbs or all the way to lucky peak. It's less windy than heading south. Traffic here has become a nightmare tho. Hence the reason I would love some contiguous trails to ride on. I'm not one of those holier than thou road cyclists, I do my best to stay out of the way but the drivers here are just getting worse.
Undertoes do exist in rivers, but I don't think you're going to find them in that stretch. From what I've seen you'll get an undertoe right where a narrow, fastmoving part of the river moves into a wider, deeper section of slow-moving water. The fear of undertoes is greatly overplayed in my experience, and the strong undertoes are in such treacherous waters that you'd be crazy to attempt to swim there in the first place.
Edit: That section is very sedate, you won't have any undertoes. I used to live near and swim here (switch it to satellite view) all the time, there is a well-known weak undertoe just east of the sandbar with the mild rapids. I've flipped an inner-tube several times going over it and never got sucked under.
There's a little-known pond you can take your dogs off leash right here in Boise. Go down state and around 28th street turn North on Rose. Here's a map:
Technically, you're supposed to have dogs on leash, but nobody does and I've been there about a hundred times and have never had a ticket.
Eventually this will become all part of the new Simplot Park. So take advantage of it! I like to promote the place to dog owners to maybe build momentum that when they lay down the rules they keep at least a section of it leash-free.
Interesting. I could only find it at the local libraries....maybe they have an extra to part with. Maybe the Yesteryear Shoppe in Nampa (if they are still around).
Funny thing about the Idaho exchange, it doesn't work. To apply in Idaho you actually go through the federal marketplace at HealthCare.gov. When you click to apply at YourHealthIdaho.org you are routed to the federal site.
Snake River Seed Cooperative are all seeds from local farmers, so you know they will do well in this climate. They are here in town so delivery is fast, and Zamzows stocks most varieties.
For starts, I use these grow lights with great results. I like to use the covered seed trays to keep the moisture in during germination. I find the hot peppers like scotch bonnet, ghost, reaper need a good head start around here because our summers aren't long and hot enough. It's always good to get a jump on tomatoes if you want an early harvest.

If you haven't purchased a lipo yet look for something small like a 3s 2200 mah. 20 - 30 minutes of runtime and the flexibility of mounting it somewhere to keep the weight where you want. (like down low or over the bumper)
This book will give you a lot of options close to Boise. The same author has a few other books for other parts of Idaho. I highly recommend it.
You're better off deciding for yourself, (than listening to redditors), in the 7 to 10 days before the trip by checking the state road condition websites and weather forecasts. If your departure date is flexible, wait for good weather. All it takes is 1 or 2 days of sun for the roads to be clear. However...
You're more likely to get stuck on I80 than I70. Plan on taking I70 unless you know for sure there's no winter road conditions. Google maps says 880 miles via I80 and 950 via Salt Lake/US6/I70. The extra 70 miles is worth it if there's snowy conditions. I've done both routes multiple times.
The problem with I80 is 1) the wind and drifting snow 2) I80 is mostly higher elevation than I70 meaning snow and especially drifting snow is more likely. 3) Services are fewer and farther between along I80.
But don't take it from me: I80 worst winter weather highway, another link
Please support Idaho Abortion Rights mutual aid! We support abortion seekers in getting access to abortions and will continue to do so. Whether it's driving out of state, whether it's paying for abortion pills. We are doing everything in our power to make sure people get the care they need and deserve. We provide childcare and emergency contraceptives too.
These politicians quite literally want to see us DEAD. That is their intention. This is about control. It has nothing to do with babies. We already have one of the worst maternal and infant death rates in the modern world... if they wanted to 'help' pregnant people they would be solving those issues, not taking away a safe and simple healthcare procedure... one that saves lives in every way.

The Masterbuilt/Butterball turkey cooker doubles as a boil pot. We got one for turkey, then found out we could do a boil with it. Needless to say, it's been used more for boils than for yard bird.

No honey not a Mormon. It's the going 20 that triggers me everytime an entitled asshat like you passes me. Read this book. Learn something besides yelling at waitresses. and I was here when the greenbelt was built. It was never intended for commuting. I have actually had many conversations with the builders of the greenbelt. https://www.amazon.com/Pathway-Dreams-Building-Boise-Greenbelt/dp/0945648340
I certainly hope that is sarcasm. The Greenbelt was NOT created for commuters and was absolutely created for moms and strollers and little kids and old people and people that get distracted by something pretty they see along the way. Read this https://www.amazon.com/Pathway-Dreams-Building-Boise-Greenbelt/dp/0945648340
https://www.amazon.com/Pathway-Dreams-Building-Boise-Greenbelt/dp/0945648340
Read this, it was absolutely NOT designed for commuting. I was here when it was put in and commuting was the furthest thing from anyone involved minds.
You're mistaken about what a setback is. The setback isn't the distant between the footway and the car lanes, it's the distance between the the building and the street (which includes not only the car lanes, but also other lanes, the curb, verges, parking, amenities like bike parking or planters, and the footpath).
If Commissioner Stead doesn't know this than I'm really concerned about the "experts" we have making planning decisions for our city.
As far as what's wrong with the eastern half of downtown:
The ~600 metre/2000 foot long stretch of Myrtle which is has no crossings for pedestrians.
The outrageously big (more than 30 acres/13 hectares) mega block between Main and Front.
The proliferation of strip malls, which the city is still approving (even as they deny density)
At some point the central business district needs to grow beyond the like 20 blocks it currently is. We just need to accept this.
Yeah, but why bankruptcy?
The River Fest went bankrupt in 2003, and that was the final year it was held. For the past 7 years, the official reason for ending the sorely missed River Festival was due to bad management, which led to the bankruptcy. This is missinformation to say the least. The truth of the matter is that Boise, and its River Festival, was the victim of organized crime based out of Seattle, Washington.
Prior to the beginning of the 2003 River Festival, a group of young men.....many of them being former BSU football players, brought $250,000 in counterfeit $20 bills into this fair city. A total of 7 criminals spent $230,000 of this money buying small trinkets and food, keeping the change (real cash) and returning it to the crime bosses in Seattle. What a shame it is that this information has never been disclosed until I decided to do so.
How do I know this information? Well....I was working undercover for the secret service and a team of local detectives after the crime of distributing counterfeit money was discovered. I was in a position to pose as a small business owner in need of extra cash and we were in the process of buying the last $20,000 in counterfeit bills. Things fell apart, and the criminals lost their nerve...running back to the safety of Seattle. I placed a call to the secret service station here in Boise awhile back, only to be told that has now become history (i.e. old news).
The rumor that the RIver Festival went bankrupt because of poor management is totally false. Boise was the victim of organized crime; a crime that took this yearly wonderful event, forever in the past for all the citizens of Boise. What a terrible shame!! If anyone wants more information about this answer, feel free to write me at
I'm finally showing up tonight.
I really like Risk 2210, but not sure how others feel about it. It's quite different from vanilla Risk, and it's only 5 turns, but it's pretty damn fun.
FWIW, I always read the scientific forecaster discussion from the National Weather Service, and they typically are pretty on point, but they'll update when they think it'll change:
Using the Weather Underground link because their format is mobile friendly whereas the NOAA/NWS isn't.
I find the discussion to be more nuanced and detailed.
Flights to Salt Lake City are more than twice as expensive.
I don't think that it is the distance or time.
There is a slow bike ride in the morning at 10 in which most people don costumes. Afterward there are variety shows, beer, wacky art exhibits, and music at Ann Morrison Park. It's fun.
By the way, if you haven't already watched it, NOT SAFE FOR SQUEAMISH!
Here's the original Statesman report from Jul 2, 2012. link Note that the video wasn't posted until August 4th and as of August 10th or so the vid blew up the internets with a 747 load of blogs, youtubers and mainstream media types copying and pasting. Therefore I tracked down the original, copypastas are low. Took me a half hour to track down the original.
No harsh comments please. I'd like to get Mr Gropp to do an AMA.
Thanks for posting that vid Mr Gropp. It took some big huevos to post it. It's a good lesson for all pilots out there. I'm betting there are a lot of high country pilots who've felt that sickening loss of lift on a hot day and won't admit to it.
So I take it you haven’t actually been to this park? Construction of the shelter and playground are happening now. Construction of the splash station is slated for December of this year.

I just hiked to Alderman Mine today. It’s 5 miles around with 1500’ in elevation change. But the snow will go up to your knees so I’d recommend snow shoes this time of year. Beautiful hike tho
If we're going to nitpick then it should have been written Boise City-Nampa MSA or Boise City–Mountain Home–Ontario, ID–OR CMSA.
Although it is written on the bottom of the graphic "Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Census Bureau" I could NOT find that graphic anywhere on any Johns Hopkins website. I searched for 20 minutes at least. At this time it is unknown to me what the source of that graphic is and how the numbers were put together. So, we have 2 problems with that graphic which doesn't give me confidence. It would have been nice if OP had given a parent link to the graphic.
Regardless, the standard go to sources are:
As of July 10th the Idaho Dashboard is reporting:
Ada | 3401 |
Canyon | 1569 |
Elmore | 80 |
Boise | 7 |
Gem | 39 |
Owyhee | 60 |
Payette | 133 |
Malheur | ? |
TOTAL | 5289 |
Given an extra day or two since that graphic was made, I'm guessing CMSA.
It was also pointed out that comparing Jacksonville to Boise is somewhat apples to oranges.
Came here to say this, I didn't know what it was called though. The trail is located here.
EDIT: Also, Sinker Creek trail is pretty nice, lots of berries and trees. There's a pullout past the radio tower on Bogus Basin Road. You can hike down to it from there. I'm not sure where exactly it is on the map but the pullout is pretty hard to miss, it's very busy during the summer.
This should be the Facebook group (pretty lively these days).
Here's the meetup group I'm in. We just meet up for a lunch kind of thing once a month. We just chat about stuff, no agenda there. There's also a coffee meetup group in Nampa if it's handier. I'm trying to start a "meet an atheist" group once or twice a month in West Boise. There's currently one at Tom Grainey's once a month. You can get more info on that from the Idaho Atheist Facebook Group.
I’ve searched a number of databases including the NWS. I found a lot of data from the link below but I’m not sure how reliable the website is. For some cities I’ve found info from various ranked lists on more commercial websites like Wunderground, and The Weather Channel, which theoretically should all be based on NWS data.
Here is the link:

Thanks in advance for any help. Anecdotal info helps too if no hard data sources can be found, I don’t live in Boise. I’m over in Denver, we have tons of storms which sparked the idea for my project. I should add this isn’t super scientific, more of a pet project for fun as I’m passionate about storms.

Well, unlike you and etherreal, the BoiseGuardian which I'm no fan of, has provided sources to his commentary.
Here's a tad to back up the story: Spokane Daily Chronicle archive 1978
It's been pretty simple. Basically vector lines cut, bitmaps engrave. (There's a few other ways to do things, but that's the simplest I've found) Draw it all up in the free graphic editor Inkscape, upload it to the glowforge app, and print away. There's been a few snags here and there (with Inkscape, the Glowforge App, and material tweaks), but I've figured them out and gotten it to work fairly quickly.
I definitely have Gigabit fiber, and it's definitely only $65 a month for me. You may just be on an older rate (like I was on the $75 rate). This is my speed test, definitely not DSL haha. I currently use one of their "modems" (essentially acting as a router with PPoE and VLAN tagging, since no phone line/DSL involved) that I bought, but I may switch to a third party one at some point (already have successfully tried it, though performance was better with the one they gave me so I stuck with it) https://www.speedtest.net/result/8062152884.png
Ask a neighbor? Could go onto NextDoor and ask one there.. https://nextdoor.com/invite/qfzgmzqsdjwmxtfmvjxk You could also call the New York Irrigation District, ask them if there's any billing history for your address (208) 378-1023. I'm assuming you're in Ada County..
Thanks for the good idea I will think of you everytime I post Literally given a good idea from a true asshole I have called it the Horse's Tail. Because no doubt I see shit daily thanks for the help getting me started. Every time I think of shit I will think of you.
…..I feel like I haven’t seen any flies in my house over the last week. But as others have mentioned, don’t open your door. BUT! If you have to and flies get in, I recommend the salt gun!
Pimping my friend's first novel for Yeti enthusiasts of all ages:
Have you considered a bag holder? I use a "Dookie Dock" from Bags on Board. That way I don't have to remember to pick it up and nobody else has to see it or worry about it. I think it came from Zamzows.
Or there's a bunch of options on Amazon like https://www.amazon.com/Poop-Holder-Waste-Carrier-Hand/dp/B08CVQ3XH2
Bass at Swan falls bellow the damn near shore - Screw jig hooks with crayfish shaped bait. Links are for what the bait and hook look like not specific recommendations.
Catfish cast further out and use catfish bait / bigger pole.
There are also sturgeon bellow the dam. Know the rules/equipment if you want to try.
Mcdevitt or settlers park in meridian power bait power eggs work wonders on trout. Very small hooks and salmon eggs work great on bluegill. (fly + clear bobber works wonders also)
Veterans memorial park (Boise cascade lake and stream behind it) : Salmon eggs / worms or any lure your comfortable with. This lake seams to be very hit or miss in my experience.
Kleiner (behind the village) : pick your bait and a bit of patience but should catch some trout.
Wilson spring ponds in Nampa - pretty good fishing make sure you know which ponds are trophy ponds and the rules for each.
Park center ponds: I have the worst luck / skill here but people always tell me good things.

Tru something like this then, also check your bed temp. Usually when it curls from the plate that means the top of the plastic is cooling really fast and pulling the base away from the heated plate. Am enclosure will trap the heat inside and keep the top and bottom of the base of the print closer together
Wearing your glasses with the the nose pads on top of the part of the mask that goes over the bridge of your nose is helpful.
I've also been reapplying these anti-fog drops every couple of days & it works wonders. A bit spendy, but I think it's worth it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R91W8JJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_oSvRFbJV3YWW3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I had the 60Mbps service and mine jumped up to something absurd. My neighborhood had just gotten Gig service, so I called and went through maybe three people and ended up with $70 fixed forever but two years of $5 off a month, still higher then the $45 I was paying before but Gig is nice. You should buy your own modem and grab a decent router, I think they wanted $10 (maybe $5) a month for equipment rental, at $10 you pay off the router in 10 months. They do change the prices, they wanted to sell me the same router I bought for $100 for $150, I had to decline the new router when the service person showed up (because I already had it, the same one).
They don't seem to like customers doing the prepaid online deal, check the prices at https://www.centurylink.com/home/internet.html and then call, I think it's kind of a whatever works for them that day thing, but retention will put you on the best plan if you just keep asking them and be nice.
Edit: FYI if you do get Gig, this router https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC2300-Smart-WiFi-Router/dp/B06XZ3S6B8 is one of the better deals for a router that will push that much. It scores better then the Nighthawk (Nighthawk is good for lots of wireless connections but does have issues pushing a gig from what I've read), I've gotten around 950Mbps wired and 700's wireless. Gig is nice you can download practically 3 dvd's in the time it takes to make popcorn.
There are vent free heaters, here's an example. Still good to have a detector nearby just in case
using this one it was on their recommended list, and of the modems on the list it tied for first with user reviews but was much cheaper than the other one.
I was posting in the Boise Reddit, as we don't have a local one over here yet, and I had noticed that the Boise Reddit invites folks to post Sun Valley articles and news tidbits etc.
Meanwhile, here are a couple of other tidbits for those interested in this type of stuff:
