I first heard of NordVPN from one of Phil's sponsor segments, and I didn't trust them from that moment on. He used the term "military grade encryption" (he has since stopped using it, but other sponsorships and commercials still use it), which is not false, but definitely deceptive, since the military uses the same encryption as everyone else. He also compared a VPN to a firewall, which works completely differently than a VPN. I get that he has to simplify it so that non-tech savvy people can get interested, but come on. You also get a 77% discount if you use Phil's code, which has deceptive marketing written all over it, because they're obviously making the normal price really high and then giving you a huge discount to draw you in when really it's just an average price.
If anyone is looking for alternatives, I recommend PIA. They've been proven not to keep logs, they have fast speeds, and I haven't encountered any deceptive marketing from them.
I imagine companies like ExpressVPN and NordVPN are going to be increasing their advertising budgets for the EU in the near future.
If these articles truly end up being enacted as is, I'm letting EU visitors to my sites know that I'll be geo-blocking them in the next few months since that's the only thing I can do to combat a rogue EU-based licensing company from going HAM on me.
I thought something was too good to be true. I had the same feeling with NordVPN and that turned out to be sketchy too. It seems like ads dont think people will look into what's behind the scene, but end up being caught pretty quickly after becoming mainstream.
Doxing the guy who fucking saved the world a huge headache/money is BS. We need to never read the news sources who did that shit. Most likely that guy gets to die soon. Fuck the British Press and anyone who posted the guys name. "From what I can tell, the Daily Telegraph was the first publication to share his name, although other festering sphincters of bad journalism — namely The Sun, The Mirror, and The Daily Mail — weren’t far behind. I’m not going to link to their piece, because fuck them."
If the Article 13 thing goes through i will lose all trust in the EU, how disconnected from modern life and out of touch can someone be to look at this and think that its a smart idea? I guess NordVPN will save me if they end up pushing this dumb shit through.
>16 people vs 1800+ dead. though? President trump is indeed correct.
Is death the only measure of catastrophe? What number of deaths makes something a real catastrophe?
Additionally, you should note that the death toll has not been updated in almost a week. There have been reports that the true number is much higher than the certified deaths due to various factors^1. Something also pointed out in the Vox article.
>they wont even ship out aid sent to them to their people.
Now that's fake news.
"It's one thing to get supplies to Puerto Rico. But officials at the Department of Homeland Security, which administers FEMA, say moving goods around the island is the bigger challenge. Diesel is short. Drivers are scarce...Everybody — the government, aid groups and private firms — is having trouble moving those goods around."^2
I feel like most people forget that major advertisers (ones that, while not free from criticism, have at least a strong track record) are still largely focused on pre-roll advertisements on YouTube versus direct adverts like Phil has with BetterHelp, NordVPN, Postmates, etc.
Ultimately, Phil doesn't have the brand recognition to set his standards for direct advertisers higher, like mainstream celebrities such as Fallon or Colbert, so the chances one of them has some shady business practices is greater. There's also a much greater chance of running across a shady business when it deals in a new type of business/product (in the case of BetterHelp, "telehealth") then pre-existing businesses/products like sporting events or soft drinks.
Eh... I stopped giving the article credit at this line:
>Over years of reporting on internet culture, I’ve heard countless versions of Mr. Cain’s story: an aimless young man — usually white, frequently interested in video games — visits YouTube looking for direction or distraction and is seduced by a community of far-right creators.
As if "interested in video games" is a sudden qualifier for neo-nazi inductees. And apparently the only qualifier other than "white" worth mentioning. Age, location, wealth, social class... those aren't important, but "plays video games" is a major red flag. /s
The article goes on to conflate a ton of issues into one "big bad trend." It seems to care less about the culture of far-right extremism and more about painting Youtube on whole as an alt-right propaganda and recruitment machine, which is far from the truth. Like this for example:
>A European research group, VOX-Pol, conducted a separate analysis of nearly 30,000 Twitter accounts affiliated with the alt-right. It found that the accounts linked to YouTube more often than to any other site.
Well no shit they link to Youtube, so does literally everyone else. It's the household name for video uploads, with the most trusted and efficient servers for streaming video content. It's been "crushing Cable TV" since 2015 andrivaling television watchtime since 2017. That correlation can be found anywhere, regardless of left/right politics.
The article is filled with little mistruths like this. There's probably some bit of good reporting but it's hard to take it at face value when it's clear they are pushing rhetoric over fact. Basically, there are bigger problems with the article than mislabeling Phil.
As a brit, i think "Cunts" is a fairly accurate representation of the trump family, hell thats pretty tame, BBC news can even use the word on tv if a senior producer allows them to.
I felt this on a deep level.
Don’t get me wrong, when he has a new midroll ad sponsor I’ll watch it to see what it is, how he sells it, and what the discount will be. But if it’s NordVPN,I got that through his code months ago so I’m like let’s just see what else is on the episode.
Here's the thing. This is not NordVPN. This is not MeUndies. I'm all for people getting sponsors, hell youtubers should take any sponsor they want seeing as how shit things are. On the other hand BetterHelp is not selling underwear or toothbrushes, they are selling mental health, like whatever their TOS says, their main page clearly sells the service as an alternative to therapy, they have the fucking price of face to face therapy next to their own price!
Thats literally what supermarkets do with their prices "Walmart has it at this price while ours is this!"
If i was a big youtuber and was approached by a service like this and i honestly liked and believed in it they i would've said something like " hey guys, i appreaciate what you're doing so im going to give you a shout out, no need to get any money involved" and then do just that, a free shout out in the video.
Not everything has to be a goddamn sponsorship. Maybe a smaller Youtuber struggling i'll kinda accept it, but i doubt bigger Youtubers like Philly D. are struggling so much that they NEEDED this sponsor.
I'm just shocked that so many intelligent and business savvy youtubers didn't realize how bad this looked.
Also shout out to LinusTechTips, they got offered a sponsor by BH and they did something shocking! They consulted their audience and ultimately decided to turn it down! So brave!
Nah, don't worry that was all just a smear campaign created by competitors in order to damage Nords name. Just read NordVPN statement in their page, it explains a lot

In addition, use a VPN, such as PrivateInternetAccess or NordVPN
This isn't necessarily directed at you, but I want to answer some of your points of contention for anyone else who's reading.
> I'm making an assumption here but I'm going to say this company doesn't have the financial backing to support paid content or the ability to create a stable platform for creators.
LBRY is VC-funded, and additionally we have a pool of LBRY Credits (LBC) dedicated to supporting content creators until they are self-sustainable on LBRY. The value of the community fund at current market prices is $140m. A Significant portion of that will be for publisher support.
> If you want a video service to take away from Youtube you're going to have to take things that youtube does and do them better.
This is our primary goal. The user experience certainly isn't on par yet, but then again YouTube has a 12 year head start. We're optimistic about our ability to improve upon YouTube's legacy.
> If you want the top quality youtubers on another platform, you're going to have to pay them more than Google.
The best part about LBRY is that those youtubers don't have to "get paid" by Google. They are able to monetize on any terms they wish from the first view with full autonomy. There is no third party to change monetization terms on a whim and decimate entire genres of YouTubers.
> but when you can't deliver on something better than Youtube, it's never going to be a competitor.
We are definitely not better than YouTube yet. But there are 1000+ publishers on LBRY already making a better rate of return on their content than YouTube despite the less-than-optimal software experience. I think we'll get there one day.
Great criticism, BTW. Your skepticism is what keeps us going!
DeFranco really a special discount coupon code for NordVPN, the coupons are phil or phil77. And they both work, I tested them. I think the ones who say that that the deal is fake or there is no deal don't understand a thing about marketing. If you clicked on the deal, the cookie for the discount was set, that's why you see the deal. That answers the question why some of you see the deal, other than that - it's accessible by directly going to the website, there's only a 2-year deal there. Of course, he is not the only one who has the exclusive deal, I think I've seen a few other YouTubers having the coupon deals too, but they are not easily accessible. Either way, I think sponsoring video creators is a good idea, it's nice to see favorite YouTubers getting some support. They take their share but still
Like the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act or the rescinding of Title IX right?
Or how about all of these laws he already have passed: https://edition.cnn.com/2017/06/29/politics/president-trump-legislation/index.html
Lay of the drugs you are on, they make you act like a fool.
I am not an expert, only a customer. I will just say write about what I know - from my experience the sign up process to NordVPN was easy, I received an email and logged in using the password I was provided. The website was easy to navigate and I downloaded the apps I needed into my devices. When I chose servers there are three things I can take a look at - what is the distance between me and the server, in what country it is and how loaded it is (how many people are using it atm). The speeds are great, I do not notice much speed loss. If you have any more questions ask and I will respond if I a have experience with it.
I have used Private Internet Access for over 2 years now and I love it. Very fast, not too expensive and they often add new servers/access points.
I will echo the other comments in saying that you need to pay for your vpn. You can't trust free when it comes to stuff like this.
This op-ed writer took longer to formulate the arguments than I did.
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/why-street-preaching-is-wrong_b_4108413
Preaching on the street, IMO, is directly contradictory to the Bible's (and Jesus') teachings. But those who would call themselves "Christians" (whom I do not take for actual Christians but rather pretenders hiding behind religious zeal) love to contradict the Bible and pick and choose which teachings they prefer (usually those promoting hatred for whatever reason--they love to ignore the "love" part).

And while the "drug" could have been weed to treat the symptoms of epilepsy and migraines, I can't imagine that the police wouldn't have mentioned it, specifically. They're all over the alcohol.
As for drugs that treat both epilepsy and migraines:

Generic Name Brand Name topiramate Topamax valproate Depakene, Depakote
I am a NordVPN user and have been pleasantly surprised when I saw DeFranco recommending it.
The main selling point for me was its location in Panama, which allows them to keep no logs, since Panama is outside direct influence of both the NSA and copyright holders. Another one I could suggest in this regard is ProtonVPN, which is created by same people who created protonmail which has shown itself as reliable over time.
Other things I really like are browser extensions, which allow me only using VPN on my browser. It also works as an add-block. But to be honest I mostly stream Netflix/BBC and torrent so I do not really know more about privacy than I said. As far as I know they also have double VPN servers which should provide double the encryption, but I never used it. They have a 30 day refund guarantee so I suggest giving it a try and seeing for yourself.
Also there are still channels out there promoting taking better help sponsorships - like the Distractible Podcast and Kyle Hill for example. An unfortunate part of the advertising game on YouTube is that most of the advertisers are scummy in one way or another. Everything from Manscaped to NordVPN either have blatant lies in their ads, or sell mediocre products at premium prices. Sure there are a couple sponsors like Vessi that in my experience are okay (despite some annoying issues with their customer service and logistics department when my order got "lost in the mail" before it even left their warehouse).
Freedome of speech only means the government can't jail you for voicing your opinions, which is of course a vital part of a functioning democracy. However, if you say something that most people find morally objectionable, and a private company choses to drop you because you've given them negative press, that has nothing to do with freedom of speech. Thats just capitalism.
It pretty much made watching YouTube an all around better experience. That last update included intros to be skipped, along with in-video sponsorships to be blocked. Lets say 5 minutes into a podcast or video, the content creator may start reading scripted sponsor ads for ExpressVPN or Manscaped, etc., it would skip those too. I feel as if that was the straw that broke the camels back.

"“The Belgian Gaming Commission has not contacted us or shared its report,” an EA spokesperson told Kotaku in an email. “We strongly believe that our games are developed and implemented ethically and lawfully around the world, and take these responsibilities very seriously. We care deeply that our players are having a fun and fair experience in all of our games, and take great care to ensure each game is marketed responsibly, including in compliance with regional ratings standards. We would welcome the dialogue with Minister Geens on these topics, as we do not agree that our games can be considered as any form of gambling.”"
This is the only one I found after a quick google, but I didn't search that hard. Feel free to look yourself if you care.
Interesting.
Its not really them that I would worry about but if they get hacked like reddit did a few weeks ago or Patreon, Yahoo, MySpace etc. In the past that your information would be known to the public.
Maybe your insurance company will find out something and give you a more expensive price. Or your employer has something against it.

Edit: imagine cases of gay people who haven't come out yet, discussing these subjects with their online counselor and then their whole conversations and info gets leaked to the public.

Sorry for taking so long, mate, my life has been very messy lately.
Just tried to hit that bell again and it didn't work, but then I tried what you said, to first unsubscribe and then resubscribe, and it worked just fine. Thanks for the help :)
But what's up with that, is that a common and known issue? And how should I/we interpret this? I mean, doesn't it dissuade people from getting notifications, since probably most people just give it up? I say this because the whole platform has been very unstable lately -- and I say this not just from what others have been saying but from personal experience -- and all those glitches and bugs are really influencing people's behaviors and what is trending. Any thoughts on that?
For instance, I'm about to buy NordVPN and I of course wanna help the show get some $$$ for my referral and payment, but I can't remember the special redirect link he makes to help make using his affiliate codes a lot easier...
I just think this would help all of us out and let us know to look here to see if the show would get credit for any other things be buy online...
From my research, Keeps is a legit product, however there are risks associated with it that out weigh going bald in my opinion.
Robinhood is no more gambling than any other trading platform, they just have a different and less traditional fee structure.
I 100% agree with Better Help though. That was unfortunate. Also the description he has to say for NordVPN is pretty inaccurate, but it is the same thing everyone on YouTube says.
I did use a pretty shitty VPN (Hotspot Shield), but it works for other sites that are blocked in Ukraine, so it does do it job. And like I said in the post, when I tried switching to Canada or Russia through that VPN - the videos worked just fine.
$200 is high? Compared to what? Do you have any idea how much, for example, NordVPN gives him for signups? Or any of the other sponsors? Because if you have absolutely no point of reference, how can you call a number high?
And no, no one can say lawsuit specifically because of all of those protections in the terms of services. It's almost as if you don't have any idea how all of this works.
I use ExpressVPN, before I used Astrill, in a few years I'll use something else. VPNs change all the time. That is a cool source to compare to a few others to get a good idea of Top 3 at the current time. Thanks
1) Vote manipulation is irrelevant here.
2) What have I said that is slanderous?
3) If I'm stalking you, go to the police.
4) I did not know/forgot he had anonymous accounts.
5) It is not for me to assume guilt of an individual that hasn't been prosecuted. Innocent until proven guilty.
6) Do you always insult people who disagree with you? Quite aside from anything else, insulting people is not going to endear people to your point of view.
7) Read this book on public shaming.
