This is my most visited sub-reddit, precisely because of how you guys have handled keeping the memes and image macros out. Every time I log on, there's new advice or playstyles for classes I hadn't considered in the past, and am now interested in. Before finding this sub-reddit, my only level 20 was a Quarian Infiltrator, but since being here, I've levelled my Drell Adept to 20. That Adept is a hundred times more successful than my Infiltrator ever was!
I've learned rules that I had never considered, like staying close to 200% CDR, biotic explosions (never knew they existed), and the glory of the MURDERTRAIN. I've met a lot of sweet bros (and sentient piles of Hippo Crap), and my XBL friend list has tripled.
The community play events that I started (shameless plug) have turned out to be MUCH larger than I ever anticipated. So, thank you guys. You're doing great, and I wouldn't change a thing.
I would really recommend not looking at the bars, if you want the exact number then you should probably have a look at this. Also no matter how high your recharge speed is your minimum cloak cooldown will always be 3 seconds, so weight on a infiltrator doesn't really matter, at all.
No seriously, Javelin and a GPS and you'll still only have a 3 second cooldown.
This is just my 2 cents, but no, it is most certainly not worth $20 for just the multiplayer. If you're planning on playing the Single-player than yes, it is worth it.
I absolutely fell in love with ME3's multiplayer and spent 200 hours worth of effort just trying to find something I liked about MEA's multiplayer and I couldn't.
It feels like the Dev's implemented a ton of great ideas and decided to hold it together with off brand scotch tape.
A lot of people really do enjoy the game and you might be one of those people. There currently is a Trial so if you want to see for yourself that's a good place to start.
Burnout Paradise was released in 2008 and its servers are still up, but I think the population is still high, as people still play it (and its the only Burnout that I know of on PC).
Mass Effect 3 was released in 2012, and people still play its co-op as well. And because of the packs, I still think people are buying those so EA is still making money on it I'm sure.
However, if/when EA shuts down the master server, there may be an alternative. Here's a reddit post of a Youtube video of it in action from 2014. I hadn't even heard of it before searching just now for it, but it looks like it may require shady methods to get the game to work (i.e. without Origin), so.... yeah.....

You can compare ALL the weapons in the full game (DLC included) through all their stats here. (Someone ripped the data from the game's ini files, then dumped it into a spreadsheet)
Looks like in the full game, the M-77 Paladin will be even better than the carnifex. Same weight at equal upgrade levels, more damage, less ammo spare and in magazine, same rate of fire.
If you look in the N7 Destroyer video you'll notice that it does not trigger a cooldown. It might seem a bit confusing at first, I think you simply activate the missile launcher (like Hunter Mode, Bloodlust etc.) and it will fire automatically when it has targeted an enemy. Info is based on the video and people on BSN.
You can observe it in this video.
I'm certain you are aware of my feelings on the GPR.
Unlike the Arc Pistol, the GPR is extremely light weight. Can't complain about that, especially with its enormous RoF and accuracy. It's no Harrier, but it does its job well enough.
With the recent buffs, the Hurricane I hits harder than even the Hornet X. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0ArNVjEsDluBFdF84WkZjc2ozQ2VrTUhkcFR2ZWc5bWc&output=html
I do tend to run with a phalanx sidearm, but the SMG's are getting better every balance update.
> I don't understand why that assumption was ever made.
To be fair, the Apex mission page had the countdown superimposed over the artwork of the new characters which could easily give the impression of that connection.
But yes, seems like it actually has to be November 7th somewhere in the world rather than an arbitrary mission timer.
I updated the original Narida checklist, new spreadsheet here (replying to everyone to try to get it exposure)
Last I saw on the weapon data spreadsheet, a Paladin I does more damage than a Carnifex X.
You have to reload more often, of course.
Never ~~pre-order video games~~ buy anything until you know all the information you want to have to make a purchasing decision.
If you think you have that after barely any info or knowledge of the game, that's fine. I preordered Civ 6, but not until I had watched dozens of gameplay hours and reviews of the game and felt satisfied that I would enjoy it (and am currently hovering around 70 hours in it).
That being said, Origin does have a solid refund policy, detailed here, so there's even less risk.
>You may return EA full game downloads (PC or Mac) and participating third party titles purchased on Origin for a full refund. Refund requests can be made within 24 hours after you first launch the game, within seven days from your date of purchase, or within seven days from the game's release date if you pre-ordered, whichever comes first. And if you purchase a new EA game within the first 30 days of its release date and can't play it due to technical reasons within EA's control, you can request a refund within 72 hours after you first launch the game instead of 24.
Basically 24 hours from first launch, or 1 week from purchase, which ever happens first.
It's quite common to see new players on PC. The ME Trilogy goes on sale rather often: it's $20 right now on the Origin store, basegame is $10 and will get even lower soon enough at other storefronts, so there is a steady influx of people picking up it on the cheap.
Feel better!
In other news any word on the mysterious batarian from last weeks apex mission?
https://www.masseffect.com/apex-missions/apex-mission-brief-14 - for reference.
That story line heavily hinted at a new character yet doesn't appear to be released yet?

I have the Saber at level III and used it with my salarian engineer for awhile on gold farming runs. I went back to my Mattock V recently, though, and I'm starting to think it performs better. The weapon stats spreadsheet seems to agree, too. Not to mention the lighter weight of the Mattock gives me the option to add my Geth SMG as a secondary without compromising much in cooldown time.
It takes about 2 shots from the BW to do the same amount of damage as the Widow of the same level. The sustained DPS might be a little higher than that of the Widow, but its burst DPS is only about 60% of the Widow's. On higher difficulties this leaves you exposed to enemies for longer periods of time in order to do the same amount of damage.
EDIT: According to this page the Widow's sustained DPS has been buffed to be higher than that of the BW.
What? All the charts and stats for it shows its level 10 DPS is at 999, the highest DPS of any Assault Rifle. Also its weight is exactly the same as the Revenent, which is also the same as a Saber.
After seeing a video of someone using it properly it looked really nice. Extended Barrel and the Stability Damp, it can't be worse than the Argus. A high level Argus can be nice with those same mods, but it just kicks so much more if not fired from cover.
And this is updated for multiplayer, meaning the Mattock on here has more DPS than what it does in SP. (Valkyrie is unchanged as its not in MP)
Alright, it's something on my end then. I can get to Kalence, but Narida is giving me issues.
EDIT: DownForEveryone is saying the domain is unreachable as well.
Even then, three cloaked shots from a Valiant isn't better than two cloaked shots and an uncloaked shot from Black Widow. Black Widow pulls ahead if you get a cloaked headshot somewhere in there.
If I get two cloaked headshots with the Black Widow, that's better damage than three cloaked headshots from the Valiant, even if I completely miss my third shot.
On the GI, the rate of fire increase is more meaningful on the BW than it is on the Valiant (both in terms of weapon damage and reload frames).
The dps numbers on the spreadsheet are meaningful, but it doesn't factor in other variables. I prefer using this spreadsheet for doing more comprehensive calculations. That being said I haven't used the Viper since demo (or ME2).
Armor is the only "hp type" affected by this sort of mechanic. Barriers and shields however, are affected by a "shield gate". This makes high-powered shot weapons not so effective against enemies who've already had their shields worn down. There's also the issue of range - weapons like shotguns and the talon do much more damage close up.
fwiw, I've done the easy part of your task here. That file contains updated figures for assault rifles. I just substituted the damage cell in one of the formulas with min(B9-$c$3, 5). But the damage reduction for your level in C3. So, for assault rifles at least, you can take a look. But bear in mind some of those statistics are just stupid. Sustained DPS is especially suspect. On many firefights, your shields will wear down faster than your clip, making reload times almost irrelevant.
Armor does have DR related to the difficulty, but I'm not sure about if it has any effect on powers or not. 15/30/50 for bronze/silver/gold if I remember right.
As for HP, here
Is its DPS really so low? According to the weapon specs I've seen (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0ArNVjEsDluBFdF84WkZjc2ozQ2VrTUhkcFR2ZWc5bWc&output=html), it has a higher DPS than the Avenger, with greater accuracy/stability leading to greater effective DPS (especially so from headshots), which is more telling and very difficult to factor in to spec sheets. As far as I can tell, it is at least as effective as the Avenger, if not flat-out better (which, admittedly, doesn't say a whole lot). Are those numbers wrong?
I won't take it on Gold with me (at least not until it is a higher level and preferably on a Geth to make use of the bonuses), but it treats me fine elsewhere. Typically, it tears through 3-4 Cannibals on Silver with rounds to spare. I've convinced a few of my friends to try it out again after they initially dismissed it, and no one has been disappointed yet.
All that said, it could simply be the availability heuristic working against me, and the numbers on that doc could be wrong. Further, on Gold it doesn't shine in comparison to the rares, especially if you have high level rares, so this I can understand.
tl;dr: I don't know if this is fair. I don't mean to sound like I'm defending my favorite gun (it isn't), but this doesn't match up well with either my experience or the numbers as I've seen them. Is this wrong? I wouldn't hesitate to drop it if it really is that bad, but it doesn't seem like it is.
Side panel of [/r/MECoOp](/r/MECoOp).
Weapons spreadsheet. I did the comparisons at level X - it's a little tilted on my gear loadout because I don't have GPR X yet.
This is what he is lost about. At level 1 is has same damage per shot with Carnifex X while weighing much more, higher recoil, smaller ROF etc. When compared to a similarly leveled Paladin it is worse by a large margin. The only nice thing about this gun is that it feels satisfying when killing stuff. (Like with the Javelin or Revenant.)
Hmm, well the mantis X does 769.5 damage at level 10 + barrel is 961.9, and a headshot is 250% damage. Assuming it's multiplicative that's 2404.75 damage. Which difficulty was this? Here is the health values of the enemies, at the top you can change the difficulty.
I'm glad you're enjoying the multiplayer experience, personally I had my doubts about it when I first heard that Mass effect 3 would have multiplayer but I was pleasantly surprised.
There is voice chat in game, but if the PC version is anything like the console then people are a bit reluctant/shy to actually use it, unfortunately there is no text chat, but this may be patched in on the pc at some point in the future.
If you look to the right hand side of this subreddit there is a link to a google doc containing a list of redditors who own the pc version. I myself own the 360 version, so I'm afraid you can't add me.
Easier to obtain sure, but it will leave you more vulnerable to do the same amount of damage, and is significantly weaker vs. armor. Also, the spreadsheets say it does less DPS https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aor1WdVV3kD6dGw1SlNDUzFjODlheGl5a3JLdXZZVXc#gid=0
I know the Hornet is one of the highest DPS weapons in the game, according to someone's weapon doc. Pretty much twice the dps of the Disciple. I've been trying it with various classes, but find myself too exposed. I'll see how well it works with Vanguard.
Actually, by the numbers pistols are actually higher damage/dps than assault rifles are. You will also notice that by the numbers SMGs should be passable primary weapons, but they are handicapped by absurdly bad accuracy. Personally, I think that assault rifles and SMGs both need a little help. SMG's need accuracy, and assault rifles need damage.
The spreadsheet is a little out of date by this point, but it will still give a good sense for the relative strength of weapons.
Tried the Saber out, but didn't like it. It does more damage than a Carnifex, it's about on par with a Paladin, but it's too heavy for me to use on my favorite power-focused classes (My Asari Adept uses Carnifex, my Engineers use a Mantis).
In addition to the weight, it has a slower fire speed than the heavy pistols, with results in lower sustained damage output.
On my classes that use heavier weapons, I prefer options like the Geth Shotgun, Widow, or Falcon.
Don't think about guns in terms of their class (assault rifles, pistols, etc). Ask what role you want to fill. For a semi-automatic accurate big hitter, I'd choose the Carnifex or Paladin over the Saber. If you want bigger hits, I'd go for a Mantis, Widow, or Black Widow (depending on weight and damage needs).
For a good all-around weapon, I'd go with the Mattock, Avenger, or Vindicator (again, depending on needs).
This is good but I don't think its been changed to reflect the recent patches. SMGs and the Mattock are better now.
Based on this chart
It appears the hornet is second only to the graal spike thrower on sustained dps, and the hurricane is better than any of the assault rifles dps wise. Even the tempest fares well compared to all the assult rifles except the mattock.
This is how I run my coalesced.
yup
*Edit: You can also use this to turn the Mattock into a proper AR and the Predator into an SMG.
*Edit2: here is a thread detailing how to set up a macro, so you can just hold the regular fire button
Hey, apart from that it looks good. It shouldn't take long to replace the Normandy (as that is a SP-only asset) and have a credit greedy Volus take its place.
And then there's this guy.
Fernando answered a TON of questions so I consider this week well worth it.
There is a bonus pack related to some charity donations, see https://www.masseffect.com/news/mass-effect-andromeda-play-to-give
It's available to anyone who plays this weekend.
All of the special storyline missions just keep getting extended day-by-day until that part of the storyline ends. Which should be today 18 May 2017 for Archon's Remnant Fortress, according to https://www.masseffect.com/apex-missions
Sure thing--it's a very interesting interview actually!
http://www.pixologic.com/interview/mass-effect3/1/
edit: ALTHOUGH, I am incorrect! I misread this the first time through I guess:
>We basically re-worked all the characters from ME2. Since we were re-using character models from ME2 we couldn't change their topology and rigging. So we used ZBrush to re-work the details, often redesigning the character from scratch and improving all the normal maps and textures.
So, All the characters were REWORKED as far as details and all of that, but the actual MODELS remained the same. Nevertheless, still a LOT of work to redo all the art for the Collector characters that had never been in Mass Effect 3 before--they couldn't just reuse other assets like they did when they made the N7 classes.
Names I can think of the top of my head:
AA Nora, after Nora Freeze, wife of Mr.
AJA Roberta, I don't remember why.
female human soldier Trisha, named for Trisha Yearwood, purveyor of Americana.
turian soldier Manbird, self-explanatory.
GE Ricky with turret Shelby, from this story.
SI Stanley, named for Major-General Stanley in the Pirates of Penzance.
krogan sentinel Tank, self-explanatory.
N7 Paladin Suyeta, after my WoW main, a paladin, who was in turn named after my car.
KV Banana, because he is all in yellow.
Sorry didn't check my reddit till now. Yes, you can use any key for this.
The "$Capslock::Toggle:=!Toggle" is the line that controls this. You replace $Capslock with the key of your choice, which can include a combination of keys.
I don't remember how to do this, Let me take a look at the documentation. This might take a while, I have work soon and another guy wants me to host a game but my origin in game overlay won't work.
EDIT: Would using the number pad's divide key be obscure enough? I almost never use them, and the main block of the keyboard can easily do the same thing (the slash is right next to the right shift key).
$NumpadMult::Toggle:=!Toggle
See if that works for you. Sorry, I'm a hack. I copy other people's code, not write mine from scratch.
EDITEDIT: Ah, I found the page I was looking for. According to it...
$^A::Toggle:=!Toggle ;Should make CTRL-A work
$!A::Toggle:=!Toggle ;Should make ALT-A work
I suck. I don't even remember why that dollar sign is at the beginning of the line. To be fair, I did set it up... er I mean steal it 3 years ago...
EDITEDITOMGWHYEDIT.... Looked that up too. The $ is probably redundant and you can omit it. I'll test after I hit the bathroom...
EDIT... oh who cares at this point.
^A::Toggle:=!Toggle
Gives you CTRL-A, just as you requested. Have fun! EDIT: I now see you requested SHIFT-A, but as you might need that for capitalizing a letter in a chat message, I left it at CTRL-A. If you really insist, +A works for SHIFT-A
>A Mattock is almost guaranteed to unlock when you're still enough of a noob to take advantage of it.
Being someone who primarily plays Soldier, I disagree entirely with the statement that the Mattock is a "noob weapon."
First and foremost, there is no such thing as a noob weapon; and I find it worth the stating that the Mattock has damage only matched by two other ARs.
Also, playstyles vary wildly, what is good for some is not always good for all.
The Mattock suits my playstyle perfectly, I have a crazy trigger finger and I can output shots with the Mattock as if it were a true automatic. The right powers, the right mods, and this gun is incredible.
The weapon Docs say otherwise (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0ArNVjEsDluBFdF84WkZjc2ozQ2VrTUhkcFR2ZWc5bWc&output=html), but in real play it does depend a bit on how high your GAR is compared to your Avenger.
It can be hard to tell; given that the avenger deals more damage per round it can -feel- like it is outstripping the GAR, but the numbers suggest this is just one of several cognitive biases at play.
Assuming the Docs don't lie, the GAR is -at least- as good, if not flat out better (barring its long, but cancel-able, reload). The fact that the Avenger sprays rounds everywhere when you aren't in cover means that you end of up sending a good bit of its damage into walls and the like at longer ranges, a problem the GAR doesn't have.
Again, if the DPS is higher, and especially if the effective DPS is higher due to greater accuracy and stability, then you aren't in any more danger on Gold with the GAR as opposed to the Avenger. In my experience, even with a very low level GAR you can strip enemies down in seconds, especially with added damage bonuses and the never-ending stream of headshots you can get (which I regularly use to murder phantoms who stick their heads out).
This list from the sidebar has quite a few names on there. Add your name on there too. The general consensus seems to be to add new entries at the top.
Hold on until you see it. Like I said, it's going to be sparse at first.
EDIT: Because even after a month I'm still not sure if this site has a direct messaging service. enjoy.
Check out the PC User List. I made a spreadsheet version with a form for easy additions to the list. Should we switch to this? I think it'll help a LOT with formatting.
I doubt the Crusader is meant to be compared with the other shotgun. I do not have the Crusader in MP but simply for looking at the stats I noticed that its a Sabre/Paladin with similar damage and a build in penetration mod but much worse in every other regard. At level 1 it is worse than the carnifex X as well.
I can't guarantee the accuracy on this, as I don't know where they got the numbers, but it doesn't seem unreasonable.
~~I guess it depends on the level of the Carnifex and the sniper. I might be wrong here but doesn't a high level sniper weigh less than a low level Carnifex?~~
Edit: according to this spreadsheet At it's heaviest the Carnifex (I) has a weight of 0.75 while the lightest sniper (either the Viper X or Incisor X) has a weight of 0.9 .
Note: I have nothing to do with this spreadsheet and it's values are all pre-patch.
The only advantage the Viper has over the Valiant is that it weighs less (especially Viper X vs Valiant I) and has 6 rounds instead of 3.
The Valiant fires more quickly and does more damage per hit. If you like semi-automatic sniper rifles, and don't care about weight - the Valiant is a great weapon.
>So I take it is more wise to focus on the damage bonuses rather then the shield bonuses when it comes to adrenaline rush
That is what I prefer, as if you are soaking damage on the higher difficulties you are in trouble anyhow. I figure it is better to kill the creatures before they can mess you up.
>I wonder if the adrenaline rush affects grenades.
If you are talking about frag grenades, I do not know. If you are talking about the grenade launcher weapons (scorpion and falcon) then yes, they are affected. (They are actually both affected by the stealth damage bonus as well, which is pretty neat).
>I used the Hornet quite a lot on single player, it has a very high damage output compared to it's counterparts and is probably the only good SMG in the game.
It is an awesome weapon. If you would like to compare the different weapons, here is a list of their stats. I personally like the tempest smg as well. The hurricane is bomb in CQB, but it is so inaccurate I cannot rely on it as a primary weapon.
I added a bunch of people from the pc user list that's on the sidebar. Played maybe ten different silver matches today and beat maybe five. I'm going to add you on origin, but there are a lot of good people on the user list too.
Also, do you have a mic?
I had a problem with the in game communication, I could see people talking but I couldn't hear them. And when I could hear them, I forgot to take my mic off of mute. Here is the list, by the way.
Had a great 3-man Platinum game. Ghost vs. Geth (we set it to Unknown/Unknown).
The characters were a Turian Sentinel, Turian Ghost Infiltrator, and Vorcha Sentinel -- so we definitely brought the cheese, and it worked. Geth Primes and Banshees got melted in no time flat.
Unfortunately I was the only one to extract, but I included the sexy scoreboard screenshot anyway (above).
Hello, I'm a bot! The movie you linked is called The Princess Bride, here are some Trailers
I haven't been playing ME:A enough to make one, but for ME3 I made my own macro to buy packs using autohotkey
If you can't find a pre-made solution I'd find some tutorials for autohotkey and take a stab at it yourself. It's been a long time since I made mine, I don't remember much but I know it wasn't very hard.
I'm not referring to your post, I'm referring to the times of yore, where PSAs were abundant and mostly needless. It's humor for those who have been around for a while and I jested on how it definitely SHOULDN'T be a PSA.
I know there was a lot of talk the last couple of weeks about BW Montreal being "downsized" and ME:A 2 being put on hiatus, but that's really a skewed version of events. The fact of the matter is that most game-production positions in a dev studio are largely irrelevant once that game is released to the world. So instead of having people remain on the project and soak up paychecks without adding value to their work, EA/Bioware moved their employees to other projects/studios, which is common practice for a large company like that. No one was fired, and at no point has Bioware mentioned discontinuing its support for Andromeda. Quite the contrary actually, they released a blurb not too long ago indicating that the game will receive post-release support just like previous BW titles, multiplayer included.
Don't usually listen to music, but if I do, it's usually electronic stuff. Movie or game soundtracks can be pretty epic too. The game is fun, but when you get in the cinematic mindset, it just feels all kinds of amazing. Too bad they don't have a replay feature. Would love to cut together a cinematic shootout with footage from multiplayer matches.
Now that I think of it, would it be possible to mod the game to have your own music play? (i.e. replace the game's soundtrack with your own). I should probably ask this on BSN too.
Aaaand another edit. I just discovered I have Sun Tzu's The Art of War audiobook. That might be an interesting listen while playing.
