Well I THINK it was two brushes I downloaded for free from this: https://creativemarket.com/BrushUpMatt/2331780-Real-Oils-for-Procreate
At one point, they had a deal where you could get 2 of his oil brushes, 2 of his gouache brushes, and 2 of his watercolor brushes for free. When I found the old link to it, it's broken now. He has the whole pack of 18 oil brushes for sale, but I only used 2 of them in this painting that I got for free.
First thought: naw this looks like a photo.

Thank you! I used 4-6ish brushes from this bundle. I’m not a huge fan of most of the built-in brushes. This is another set of brushes I use regularly.
No need to ever buy brushes. We all share custom brushes FREE when you join ProCreate forums. Some do still like to sell them, but I have too many custom brushes to count, & they’re the same (if not better) than what you’ll find for sale.

All the good stuff is on resources. Enjoy! 😁

Perhaps if you found the small bits where they were UV mapped when looking at it in 2D in Procreate and colored it there it would work better? Finding 2D view in Procreate
Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear that because it took me forever to decide which colors to use!
As for choosing a color palette, I like to think about the overall theme of my drawing, the type of emotion/mood I want to convey, and which colors match my personal aesthetic/branding. It's always a good idea to have multiple versions of your drawing with different colors to see which one looks best.
And if you don't already have a custom palette saved onto Procreate, I recommend trying out Coolors and Colormind! I usually stick to the colors of my custom palette and make small modifications if I need to by changing the HSB and/or RGB values on Procreate.
Hey thanks dude!!!! 🥰 The brush is grain 5 from MiksKS at creative market - https://creativemarket.com/MiksKS/1699658-Procreate-grain-brushes And then I used the technical pen brush from procreate itself to get the shapes and lines done!
Procreate (like any digital art app) has tools that make it a little easier to draw. Stamp brushes help you make repeating shapes. QuickShape helps you make smooth shapes and get them the right size, and do straight lines. Layers mean you can erase things to fit without messing up other parts of the drawing. Transform lets you copy parts of your drawing and mirror it and rotate it, so reflections can be easier, and if you mess up something’s size you can fix it. Liquify and warp tools let you do different messing with sizes. Selection and mask tools mean you can’t draw in parts you don’t want to draw in.
But if you’re making nice stuff it’s uh... because you’ve learned to draw. Almost all digital tools are based on real physical tools. Stamp brushes are called stamp because you’d literally use stamps in some kinds of art. QuickShape is a lot like some kinds of stencils. Even layers are based on real things.
https://youtu.be/aGPnN0Yoldw Is a 20 minute overview of a lot of basic digital art tools. If you’ve never drawn before, he is throwing an absolute ton of stuff at you, very fast. Don’t hesitate to pause the vid, or look things up in the Procreate Handbook https://procreate.art/handbook or watch it more than once. The official Procreate youtube channel also has videos on some things.
Get kinda comfy with the stuff in that vid, and you’ll find you can make some pretty cool looking stuff. Art doesn’t have to be super realistic to be good at communicating to other people. It doesn’t even have to be pretty. You just have to make it.
The tutorial itself is actually for photoshop. Is narrated in Russian, and subtitled in bad english. But I was able to at least make this so it’s worth something. I found it on Gumroad here
Primarily used brushes from Flotastic pack and some texture brushes for the background. Took me forever but I feel like I got a pretty good result.

Not really, tho there are tricks for getting concentric effects mostly involving snapping and the “perfect” shortcut. See https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/guides/quickshape/ And the heading “snap to perfect form”.
If it needs to be pixel perfect concentric, it definitely won’t work.
this page has all the compatible models and unfortunately the earliest one is gen 5! i’d recommend buying a new one and a pencil if you can afford it, since finger painting isn’t the best. this combo is about $450 with tax or $420 if you’re a student :)
https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/selections/selections-automatic/
There’s a handbook. It’s linked in most automod posts. It’s fully searchable, and if you searched on selection you’d find lots of relevant stuff including what I’m linking.
https://procreate.art/handbook/brushes/brushes-share/
Yes, there’s a handbook. Yes, it’s searchable. Yes, it actually has good instruction and examples. But basically import works in loads of ways, and the handbook explanations all have illustrations and often video too.
You are correct, the issue is coming from that layer being set to Cb, or Color Burn. This means that that layer is going to change based on the background. Additionally, the darker you make your background, the darker the ship will appear. More info on this can be found here: blend modes.
It would be difficult to hide a virus in a Procreate .brush file or .brushset. The issue with most sites isn’t viruses or malware but whether/how they have access to your personal information.
The site you’ve found is run by some other developer, as you’d see if you check their Projects page.
The official website is https://procreate.art/
Per the faq: https://procreate.art/faq
Any art you create in Procreate or Procreate Pocket, including the progress videos, is your content and you can use it however you like. Of course, we'd love it if you let people know that you used our apps to create it. The official forums have a free brush thread https://procreate.art/discussions/10/28/25109 which is very helpful. The Bob Rossing in Procreate and For the love of Tonko House threads it links are ones I refer people to all the damn time, not just for brushes but for the thinking involved. I’m not good at doing art that uses tons of different brushes, so I don’t have tons of favorite downloaded brushes. Tuhis’s thread, Nikko’s thread, Abbie Nurse’s thread and JN Garret’s thread are ones I refer people to fairly regularly.
Out of stock brushes, I use 6B, chalk and a 1% size Nikko Rull for most things where I want a “pencil” look. Dry ink and Ink Bleed are what I use to imitate my fountain pens. Nikko Rull and Gouache do most of my color flatting, tho chalk can flat too. Set ‘em up around finger size, slam down color. I tend to just make the same brush smaller if I need a detail brush.
Get a paper-like clear-view screen protector from Amazon. It feels like paper. It's like night and day. I struggled at first too because the screen was so slippery but after I got that screen protector it helped a lot. It feels so much like a toothy paper. I love it.
They're not cheap but worth every penny if you wanna draw
Bought these a couple of weeks ago and they work fantastic. USD $11.99.
I had these recommended to me from another artist who says they haven't had issues with them. Quality is identical to my old nib/tip. I actually put it in the little box the new ones came in and if it weren't for the worn down edge, I wouldn't be able to tell it apart from the new ones.
An Apple Pencil allows for the best experience in procreate, but you don’t need one for shading. I use an Apple Pencil knock of that has palm rejection and a shade function when you angle the stylus. It was on sale for like 30 bucks on Amazon. I do still want an Apple Pencil, mainly for the pressure sensing, but I’ll wait for a little while longer. Here is a link to the stylus I am using Stylus Pen for iPad with Palm Rejection, Active Pencil Compatible with (2018-2021) Apple iPad Pro (11/12.9 Inch),iPad Air 3rd/4th Gen,iPad 6/7/8th Gen,iPad Mini 5th Gen for Precise Writing/Drawing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0831BF1FH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_1W973R9NSM0TEZSF0TYF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

This is unfinished because I have not added the amount of detail I plan on adding. To finish this piece I will continue to sculpt the planes of the figure while staying loose on areas that are not the focal point.
Process: This drawing is based on a reference photo by Fatma Çekmez. I sketched the composition using Soft Pastel, refined the sketch using Peppermint, and painted in the colors using a combination of Peppermint, Derwent, and Soft Pastel. For the thinner lines and outlines, I used Derwent.
Brushes: Peppermint, Derwent, Soft Pastel. All are built-in Procreate sketching brushes.
I was supposed to create an artwork based on the entire photo but messed up the fruit plate ☹️, so I just decided to remove that part entirely.
Here's a high resolution version: https://dribbble.com/shots/4612038-Pioneer-Square-ish-Pt-3/attachments/1042427

You will want to figure out the actual model number of the iPad before making your decision, there are Mini, Air, and Pro models - the models are not designated per year but by generation.
If the model is on the list from the Procreate FAQ and the iPadOS is up to date (you can update it after you buy it), it will run Procreate.
Procreate has an FAQ where they list the iPads they support.
If you get the oldest model supported by the latest iPadOS and Procreate, it will need to be replaced sooner. The newer model you get, the longer it should be supported.
Currently the iPad 5th Gen is the oldest "normal" iPad supported. For reference, it was released in 2017, so it's about 5 years old. They've released a new version almost every year since, but the iPad 4th Gen (not supported) was released in 2012 so it's hard to get a good gauge on how long it will take for a full phase-out on older models.
I went with the iPad 8th Gen because it suited my needs and I personally hope and expect to get at least 4-5 years out of it before reaching impactful deprecation.
Especially if you get one of the more recent models, you shouldn't have to replace it any time soon. You might not get all of the benefits of every update as time goes on (some software updates require new hardware), but your device shouldn't be magically rendered useless and you'll probably have at least a good year's warning to know you're reaching the "must upgrade" moment.
The FAQ on the Procreate website lists the maximum canvas sizes for a variety of iPads, though it does not list how many layers each device supports at their maximum resolution
I got this one on Amazon after doing a ton of research.
ELECOM Pencil-Feel Screen Protector Designed for Drawing, Anti-Glare Scratch-Resistant Bubble-Free, Compatible with iPad Air 4 (10.9inch, 2020) / iPad Pro 11" 2018/2020 (TB-A18MFLAPL-W) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QDL398S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_NR0Y579A3QEYXKKTCBGD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I watched YouTube videos that compared screen protector side by side (including paperlike). Paperlike had some of the worst light changing grain (idk what the word for it is). If you think you need one, or have that preference, this linked one is good.
But now me personally, I don’t like them anymore.
Many feel the next best is the Logitech crayon stylus. Grey is cheaper. Not sure if they are identical.

I don’t have a definitive answer for you but here are my thoughts on it.
Screen size: Unless you really need it to be small, or you know you’ll only work on small sized pieces I wouldn’t get a mini for your only iPad.
Layers/RAM: The number of layers you can have depends on how much RAM you have and the resolution/size of the canvas. If you can, try to estimate your work flow and how many layers you might need. Also I haven’t done any animation with procreate yet but I understand that uses more RAM and the amount of RAM limits the length of the animation segment you can make.
Here’s an article from them I found discussing layer limits for the, now released, version 5.2
You should
A: Check For a bug fix update. Maybe someone already mentioned it on the support page of https://procreate.art/support or on the appstore page and they patched it. If no just report the bug

B: Save all the images and uninstall the app and then reinstall it and reimport the images

C: If still does not work report as i mentioned and sit tight for the devs to notice
My Boss uses Procreate, I prefer Sketchbook Pro. But what if you downloaded SBP or Gimp, which is also free https://www.gimp.org and preformed the split there? Then you can export the file to any desired format you like?
I should add onto here that I live in Sweden, meaning that my evening is New York’s afternoon. Time visualizer/time zone comparison
(In Sweden it is alway 5 hours later than it is in New York)
So if you are in Vancouver or like the American west coast, then we might do better with mainly chat/email rather than scheduling live sessions
Which is totally fine!! This of course also goes for anyone else anywhere else as well.

Some more about me!
I’m Zack/Alice, I’m a 25 year old nb person from stockholm, currently on government disability*/don’t have a job. I don’t have a compiled portfolio anywhere, since my art is all in meatspace I never have access to it when I realize I should make one.
But I mainly do photorealism - not necessarily because I like it but because it’s by far easiest for me and I’m guaranteed to like the results.
I’m working on doing more simple things, and doing more abstract things. Ive struggled a lot with performance anxiety and perfectionism in my art - and with some prompting, like when I make art with someone or for someone, it’s barely even a problem anymore!! But when I have to be my own engine, my own inspiration and my own motivation, I still tend to get myself down.
*in Sweden you can get that if you have adhd+another disorder like depression etc)
Ahhh. Check the comments I got lots of nice recommendations from others who had the same issue. I'm definitely going to buy the "speed charger" that way when I'm home, or near an outlet, my iPad will never die while I'm using it. https://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Charger-Quntis-Lightning-AirPods/dp/B08B3GNL1S/ref=mp_s_a_1_9?crid=28QO99KEQ6NA4&keywords=ipad+charger+30w+lighting&qid=1639725624&sprefix=ipad+charger+30w+lightning%2Caps%2C117&sr=8-9
Here’s one that should work for you!
The dying while plugged in thing drove me bonkers! This ought to help. :)

I used Vermeer's Oil Brush set by DigiLife (Creative Market Vermeer Brush Set)
The process for getting this done is to use the brush as you would actual oils. Start by creating the under painting and build on top of that underpainting going from dark to light.
I used the Procreate Inking Gel Pen to initially place the colours, then used the Heavy Bleed Blender brush from this pack to blend.
I used 80 Watercolor Brushes by Littie Blue for watercolour and paper texture and Realistic Procreate Marker Kit for the graffiti.

more places to sit. really can't say enough good about https://creativemarket.com/Jazwinska/6008764-Realistic-Procreate-Marker-Kit
if anyone has recommendations for other chisel style markers, or anything marker related, I'd love to check them out!
Procreate Inking Gel pen was used to sketch in colours, Heavy Bleed blender brush from this brush pack (Alcohol Ink) was used for blending

Many layers - lots of different blending modes - mostly Overlay and Screen
Almost entirely- Regular round brush! Primarily - as well as some acrylic and oil brushes from the Sargent's oil pack here, I recommend it wholeheartedly. https://creativemarket.com/sadielewski/3589145-Sargents-Oils-%E2%80%93-Procreate-Brushes
Rest of the process was just sketch, color and shade. I've used procreate for almost 2 years now and digital art much longer than that.
This feels like gouache brushes to me. Shelly Laslo just came out with a gouache pack last week if I’m not mistaken here’s the link https://creativemarket.com/ShellyLaslo/5732296-Gouache-Boutique-Procreate-Brushes
hey! sorry I didnt reply yet,

the brush set I was talking about was this:

I took the class on skillshare by Liz Kohler Brown, it's the one called Ink Illustrations. She includes a free pack of brushes (which are what I used for everything in this drawing) and color palletes for procreate! The class walks through the whole process of this style of drawing, it's super helpful.

Really solid brushes and it's only like $10. Also, I think there's a 10% discount for your first purchase.
Hi everyone, I have found this information with the release of iPadOS 15 and the quantity of layer you can create depending on the size of the archives and the RAM. In case someone needs it: https://procreate.art/insight/2021/layer-limits
Sorry.. Im not sure how to fix it, but did you enlarge/shrink/warp it perhaps? If so, reversing this should put it back in order.
Maybe this can also help.
https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/transform/transform-interpolate/
Make sure your color profile is set to CMYK. Color profiles like RGB and P3 contain colors that are only available on screens. If you're having trouble past that point you can always get in touch with Procreate's friendly support team :)
When you set a layer to be the background in your animation, it will always be there, no matter what. same with the foreground. See ProCreate handbook for details: https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/animation/animation-options/
If you're having issues exporting your work that are technical, you can always contact Procreate's support team via their website. They can help you figure it out or find a way to get things to your manufacturer.
Didn't they add that (perspective) already? https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/guides/guides-perspective/
I haven't toyed much with the color correction stuff myself... I need to learn more about it.

some artists also have brushes that they share using dropbox. Download dropbox and a prompt will show up, suggesting Procreate as an option
I think your only option is to save them as .psd and using Adobe Photoshop.
I have not tried this so I'm not sure exactly how it exports it (how the layers look, etc). I would test this out beforehand to ensure it exports it as you expect it to.
https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/actions/actions-share//
https://procreate.art/faq - read it, love it. Savage wants you to save your pennies for the stuff that matters (like rent) so they try hard to cover all the before purchase questions.
Per the faq, the iPad 8 gets - 7327 x 7327 as it’s a real 3gb device. A new one is $329 for the cheapest model.
I don’t regret buying my pro for one second. But it’s also a 2017 10.5” device and it’s my only computer so it’s kinda saved me a lot of money over the years and I still don’t strictly need an upgrade. So if you’re absolutely sure you need a pro, go for it. But if the 8th gen is good enough (and it should be with what you say you want), that is a lot less money and it actually has a warranty.
If you look at the official FAQ, there’s 2 parts to what is supported. If your device supports an Apple Pencil, that’s it. That’s the only one that is fully supported and has pressure.
If your device does not support an Apple Pencil, there’s a list of supported styluses. It is very short and very precise. https://procreate.art/faq
I do. I use one that has a paper type feel. Feels like you’re drawing on paper
Like Paper Screen Protector for iPad 9/8/7 Generation (2021/2020/2019 Model, 10.2-Inch), XIRON High Touch Sensitivity No Glare Scratch for iPad 10.2 Matte Screen Protector Compatible with Apple Pencil https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YYY1DDZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_SZ9RAP13FSNNANP7R0PS?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but this book by Joseph Gillard has a really good chapter that discusses the movement and 'feel' of fire and smoke from an analytical perspective. I really recommend checking it out if you haven't already, I believe it's pretty easy to find online, but also definitely worth having a hard copy.
Thank you so much! 😊🙏🏻 The only non-native brushes I used here are all from this incredible free brush set. Mainly “georg’s elder 4“ for drawing and “pentaliner” for some textural stuff at the end. Otherwise I just use good old fashioned “soft airbrush,” “nikko rull” and “6B Pencil“ :)
I was considering posting an image, but every brush pack seemed to have this so I'm guessing it's across the board. Here's a link to the set I was looking at https://creativemarket.com/georg.von.westphalen/1375869-Procreate-MegaPack-400-Brushes
If in the license section you click "what are these?" that's the legal talk I'm talking about.
https://procreate.art/discussions/10/28/25367 Is the tutorial index thread on the official forums. If you scroll down a bit you’ll find https://procreate.art/discussions/10/28/23106 . The tutorial is a bit old, so where the Curves step says you just invert the line once, in Procreate 5x you need to invert all 4 Curves lines.
Sorry, I forgot the 6. It’s sRGB IEC61966-2.1.
If you mean you’re trying to change it on the canvas, I’m very sorry I gave you bad info here. https://folio.procreate.art/discussions/4/10/44317 Is the thread where I reported to Savage that it’s not possible to change CYMK to RGB and vice versa. It’s not yet marked acknowledged, resolved, not a problem or anything, so it’s not yet logged in their bug system as an issue.
To make this change you need to copy/paste or drag and drop the layers to a new canvas. https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/layers/layers-organize/ Is the handbook section that covers how to do that.
I’m not sure. I think your best bet would be to use the grid lines function and use that as a guide. Good luck though!
Edit. They’re called guide lines. Here’s a link Procreate Guide Lines
https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/gallery/gallery-create/
Scroll down to where it says “use a template”. If you look at the screenshot, the comic canvas is CYMK which is used for (some) printing.
You can copy the layers on your existing canvas to a new one that has the color profile you like. The handbook explains how in the Layers>Share section.
Open the layer menu.
Tap the N for the layer that has the coloring page. A menu will open up with opacity and layer blend mode settings.
Set the blend mode to “multiply” (it’s at the very top of the list). This will make the layer transparent if it has a background.
Now swipe left on the layer, hit the lock button.
Create a new layer if you haven’t already. Hit up https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/layers/layers-organize/ And scroll down to where it says Move to see how to move the layer under your coloring page.
You can use a lot of layers if you want, so you can do your background on a separate layer and then do things like put clothes on a separate layer and faces on a separate layer and hair on a third.
Layers above your coloring page can block the lines. This is actually useful if you want a fully painted look.
There's recolor. I'm not sure how to explain it, so I left a link at the end. It's another alternative to recolor that sounds like how you want it, versus the color fill option with the selection tool.
I'm not a fan as to how procreate relocated recolor, so I added recolor as an option to my quickmenu (check settings on how to activate it).
You’re trying to spend $650 + the $2000ish for the iMac + $300-500 for the iPad to replace... a $300ish iPad. This makes no damn sense.
Procreate on a vanilla iPad works just fine with a capacitive stylus (aka the same as the $5 dumb styluses you can find in many stationery stores) or your finger. Fingers are of course free.
I strongly recommend actually reading the official FAQ https://procreate.art/faq As you are clearly misunderstanding a whole lot of how iPads and Procreate work.
Can’t give exact numbers as I’m not allowed to snitch my partner’s gen8 vanilla ipad.
Per the official faq:
There are actually two limits on canvas sizes in Procreate, both imposed by the hardware of the iPad model you're using.
The limit on total canvas size can be found by multiplying the two dimensions of any of the below maximum sizes. For example, the 12.9", 11", and 10.5" iPad Pros can create a canvas up to 67,108,864 pixels total - around 67 megapixels.
The other limit is on any single dimension - width or height. Older iPads (up to the iPad Air 1 and iPad mini 3) can create canvases up to 4,096 pixels in either direction. The iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 can create canvases up to 8,192 pixels in either direction, and for the iPad Pro models this limit is increased to 16,384 pixels. You can create a canvas of any size and ratio in Procreate as long as it doesn't exceed the width/height limit for your particular device. For example, on the 12.9" and 10.5" iPad Pros, you can make any canvas provided neither side is longer than 16,384 pixels and the total size of the canvas doesn't exceed 67 megapixels.
Here are the maximum canvas sizes by device in pixel:
iPad Pro 12.9", 11", and 10.5"; iPad Air 4 - 16,384 x 4,096, or 8,192 x 8,192 iPad Pro 9.7", iPad (6th generation) and iPad (7th generation) - 8,192 x 4,096, or 16,384 x 2,048 iPad (8th generation) - 7327 x 7327 iPad (5th generation), iPad Air 2, iPad Air 3, iPad mini 4, and iPad mini 5 - 8,192 x 4,096 iPad Air 1 - 4,096 x 4,096
so a Gen8 iPad with a Pencil 1 is going to get you close to the same range of layers as my gen2 iPad Pro. Not quite. But close. We can’t tell you if the max canvas sizes are good enough. We can tell you that most iPads get 2-4 layers with their max canvas size, and newer devices tend to be 4.
Then what you need is the official faq! https://procreate.art/faq
Info straight from the developers based on their testing! Answers tons of common questions! They have a LOT of iPads. The bit you’re interested is in the question "What's the biggest canvas I can make?”.
They report: iPad (8th generation) - 7327 x 7327 Which is uh... a lot bigger than A3. A3 at 300 dpi is 4961 by 3508.
So you probably don’t need to spend more money, unless there’s features you know the Air or Pro have that you actually can use.
Press and hold the check mark for the layer you want to be the only one visible. See also: https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/layers/layers-interface/
Finding stray marks is part of layer select and is also covered in the handbook. I never use the feature so I can’t remember the details on how to use it. But it’s in the handbook.
Cheapest brand new is gen 8 vanilla ipad + Apple Pencil gen1. Paying a lot more than that for any of the used or refurb options is a bad plan.
Since it sounds like you’re comfortable with drawing and digital already, take a look at the Procreate FAQ in conjunction with what you tend to do for your art now. https://procreate.art/faq
