Draw: Procreate is the best, and has many tutorials online.
Games: Civ 6, Darkest Dungeon, Invisible Inc, Bastion, Transistor, Binding of Issac: Rebirth, Stardew Valley, Siralim 3. Without knowing your tastes in games, I just put a bunch in.
There’s an app called procreate that does this, if I’m understanding you correctly. It’ll record all of your drawings and play them back as a Time-Lapse video of the process. It’s probably my favorite drawing app, and definitely the one I use the most. I highly recommend it if that’s what you’re looking for!
Here's a direct link to Procreate's teaser page:

Painting on 3D models. This is next level. Hopefully Procreate's success and pro-level features will inspire more companies to develop true pro apps for iPad.
I would like to do your request. Here is my portfolio. I do realistic and painterly commission work at high resolution, with a quick turnaround time (I will finish this in 1-2 days). I will do my best to make this absolutely memorable for you.
You can reach me via email at
No need to ever buy brushes. We all share custom brushes FREE when you join ProCreate forums. Some do still like to sell them, but I have too many custom brushes to count, & they’re the same (if not better) than what you’ll find for sale.
https://procreate.art/discussions
All the good stuff is on resources. Enjoy! 😁
Perhaps if you found the small bits where they were UV mapped when looking at it in 2D in Procreate and colored it there it would work better? Finding 2D view in Procreate
>Procreate just fixed a bug on M1, no “use M1 power” or such marketing bullshit.
I think he refers to this:
>Paint on your 3D models with all the power and beauty of Procreate’s brush engine and image effects. With a host of inclusive new accessibility features, plus full optimization for the powerful new M1 chip that takes Procreate to the next level.
If you plan to do 3D art, I heard Procreate will be adding 3D features for M1 users (Source). If you’ll be making very detailed 3D art, then the 16 GB might prove useful.
The RAM doesn’t really affect the amount of apps you can download for your iPad Pro. If you don’t want to go for the 1 or 2 TB models, you could always connect an external drive or use a cloud service to save photos. And if you use a Mac, you could transfer the files in between the devices to allow for more storage.
If you’re talking about current circumstances, iPadOS hasn’t really allowed complete use of the 16 GB as of now (or at least I believe so), since current apps use the basic 6GB from the old iPad Pro. I’m pretty sure Apple will update this soon, but as of now, there is little benefit besides future proof-ing the device for once more RAM is usable.
If you feel like you would use the storage, I would go for the 1TB model, but otherwise, you should still be good with a 8 GB RAM model.
i personally use an ipad with apple pencil (pro 2020 with pencil 2). obviously thats a pricier option, but if you have an apple computer, i find the sidecar feature to be super useful. it mirrors your desktop to the ipad so it completely eliminates having to transfer files between devices, and having your desktop turn into a touchscreen is pretty cool. i'm currently using adobe cc (both through sidecar + ipad native apps), notion, figma, and procreate, and i love what the ipad enables me to do. hope this helps!
Thank you❤️🙏you can get the brush from here
To learn more about brushes in procreate you can go to Artist handbook and read about all the characteristics that are necessary to make a certain brush
https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1
Hope it helps 🙌🏾
Procreate (like any digital art app) has tools that make it a little easier to draw. Stamp brushes help you make repeating shapes. QuickShape helps you make smooth shapes and get them the right size, and do straight lines. Layers mean you can erase things to fit without messing up other parts of the drawing. Transform lets you copy parts of your drawing and mirror it and rotate it, so reflections can be easier, and if you mess up something’s size you can fix it. Liquify and warp tools let you do different messing with sizes. Selection and mask tools mean you can’t draw in parts you don’t want to draw in.
But if you’re making nice stuff it’s uh... because you’ve learned to draw. Almost all digital tools are based on real physical tools. Stamp brushes are called stamp because you’d literally use stamps in some kinds of art. QuickShape is a lot like some kinds of stencils. Even layers are based on real things.
https://youtu.be/aGPnN0Yoldw Is a 20 minute overview of a lot of basic digital art tools. If you’ve never drawn before, he is throwing an absolute ton of stuff at you, very fast. Don’t hesitate to pause the vid, or look things up in the Procreate Handbook https://procreate.art/handbook or watch it more than once. The official Procreate youtube channel also has videos on some things.
Get kinda comfy with the stuff in that vid, and you’ll find you can make some pretty cool looking stuff. Art doesn’t have to be super realistic to be good at communicating to other people. It doesn’t even have to be pretty. You just have to make it.
It is usd. And it also supports animation! It is only compatible with an iPad though, which if you don’t already have one could be an issue. But it works really well with an Apple Pencil. I highly recommend it as from what I know, many other well known professional art apps are either more expensive, run on a special tablet, or are subscription based.
> but honestly Procreate looks nice and is really fluid but isn't anything special. This is all coming from someone with a 12.9 M1 iPad Pro
Hard disagree.
Not a subscription-based app. You pay once and all future updates are free.
Not having a desktop user interface is precisely what makes it so special. The fact that it's mobile oriented, yet much easier to learn is what makes it special to a lot of people, especially those with an older iPad or one with a smaller screen.
Even though it's mobile-based, you can still create fantastic artwork with a much easier learning curve, especially with how intuitive their gestures are.
The fluidity is also something you probably don't appreciate considering you have an M1 iPad Pro. For people with older devices Procreate still feels much smoother than CSP does by far.
Speaking of the M1 iPad Pro, the upcoming 5.2 version takes Procreate further. I personally don't care for these features but I know people who design products would love this.
I'm raving a lot about Procreate but it's because I know that if I don't have access to my preferred workflow with Photoshop, I can comfortably continue working using my iPad Pro and Procreate.
Hi! I use the Procreate app (https://procreate.art) on my iPad, and I turn on Vertical Symmetry in settings! I prefer working without it on, but I can make cool stuff a hell of a lot faster with it on because I only have to draw half. There’s a “pocket” version for phones! It’s probably not that great to use if you don’t have the Apple Pencil, but I adore the app. Timelapse recording is a built-in feature so I can review my process after finishing a project 😊
The issue you're seeing with canvas size (24 x 36 @ 300dpi) isn't exactly the same as the layer limit.
I'm not sure if it's dependent on ram or something else, but the current limits according to procreate themselves is 16,384px on one side, and ~67MP total area (67,108,864px).
So it seems like you're hitting just the total px count (77,760,000) issue here.
Not that it helps, just explaining what I saw a while back.
Not really, tho there are tricks for getting concentric effects mostly involving snapping and the “perfect” shortcut. See https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/guides/quickshape/ And the heading “snap to perfect form”.
If it needs to be pixel perfect concentric, it definitely won’t work.
this page has all the compatible models and unfortunately the earliest one is gen 5! i’d recommend buying a new one and a pencil if you can afford it, since finger painting isn’t the best. this combo is about $450 with tax or $420 if you’re a student :)
It's an iPad with the app Procreate.
The same effect can be achieved in any painting software which supports layers. Just add a dark layer on top of your flat/unlit painting, turn down the opacity and use an eraser brush to remove parts of the dark overlay where you want "light" to appear.
https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/selections/selections-automatic/
There’s a handbook. It’s linked in most automod posts. It’s fully searchable, and if you searched on selection you’d find lots of relevant stuff including what I’m linking.
https://procreate.art/handbook/brushes/brushes-share/
Yes, there’s a handbook. Yes, it’s searchable. Yes, it actually has good instruction and examples. But basically import works in loads of ways, and the handbook explanations all have illustrations and often video too.
Yeah there's a lot of hidden functionality, procreate has their own handbook btw and there are a lot of youtube tutorials if you ever need help. I'd say the most important things are shortcuts, layer management (reference and multiply), and brushes. Might also help to mix in a couple new things with each new drawing you do, the different brush options are pretty fun for example, I change it up a lot and eventually even developed favorites.
I found links in your comment that were not hyperlinked:
I did the honors for you.
^delete ^| ^information ^| ^<3
You are correct, the issue is coming from that layer being set to Cb, or Color Burn. This means that that layer is going to change based on the background. Additionally, the darker you make your background, the darker the ship will appear. More info on this can be found here: blend modes.
It would be difficult to hide a virus in a Procreate .brush file or .brushset. The issue with most sites isn’t viruses or malware but whether/how they have access to your personal information.
The site you’ve found is run by some other developer, as you’d see if you check their Projects page.
The official website is https://procreate.art/
Per the faq: https://procreate.art/faq
Any art you create in Procreate or Procreate Pocket, including the progress videos, is your content and you can use it however you like. Of course, we'd love it if you let people know that you used our apps to create it. Procreate and Procreate Pocket themselves, their graphics, and the included example artworks are protected by copyright and may not be used commercially or distributed without permission.
The official forums have a free brush thread https://procreate.art/discussions/10/28/25109 which is very helpful. The Bob Rossing in Procreate and For the love of Tonko House threads it links are ones I refer people to all the damn time, not just for brushes but for the thinking involved. I’m not good at doing art that uses tons of different brushes, so I don’t have tons of favorite downloaded brushes. Tuhis’s thread, Nikko’s thread, Abbie Nurse’s thread and JN Garret’s thread are ones I refer people to fairly regularly.
Out of stock brushes, I use 6B, chalk and a 1% size Nikko Rull for most things where I want a “pencil” look. Dry ink and Ink Bleed are what I use to imitate my fountain pens. Nikko Rull and Gouache do most of my color flatting, tho chalk can flat too. Set ‘em up around finger size, slam down color. I tend to just make the same brush smaller if I need a detail brush.
Hi! I’m open to doing this as I do commission work full time and I would love to do a children’s book. Here’s my portfolio. I do commission work in high res (300 dpi) and have a quick turnaround time for finishing projects.
If interested, we can discuss details and contracts via email:
Hoping to work with you!
For that hazy effect I used two different brushes, the “soft brush” and the “soft brush grain”. They were in this brush pack that you can download for free: Jingsketch brushes
Hey! It's an illustration app called Procreate. I made the illustration on there and a really cool feature they have built in is they save your progress and you can make a time lapse video of your progress.
This was around 2-3 hours of line work condensed into around 30 seconds.
I'm not much of an artist, but I do like to doodle around in various sketching apps and feel my iPad (2017 Pro 12.9") is way more accurate, which in turn makes the drawing experience, much more natural and realistic. There's almost no lag because iPad Pro screen's have a higher refresh rate when you're using the pen- goes to 120hz. While SB2 screen doesn't so, with the pen, it has a very noticeable lag- almost 1/8-1/4 inch behind the pen tip if you do a medium to fast stroke. This would drive me nuts if I were working on a serious piece. Writing is fine though- I have the 15" SB2 and taking notes on it is great!
I don't have any pro level sketching or drawing apps for the SB- just Sketchable, fresh paint and I guess PhotoshopCC (is it really a sketch/drawing app?). I use PS for photography, but have used it to sketch a little, nothing as deep as customizing brushes, palette's, etc.
Besides Sketchable using the Dial in a very cool way, iPad apps like Inspire Pro, Procreate (new update is amazing! As good or better than anything I've seen in Photoshop for sketching- Procreate iPad ), Tayasui Sketches, Artstudio Pro and Concepts, pretty much blow away anything I've seen on my SB2. If I were any good, I may invest in some pro level apps for Windows, but I know they can get pretty expensive. Those iPad apps are pretty much Pro grade- (in both features and ability to export) and only $3-12...
Of course, there is the hardware price diff.. my iPad Pro 12.9 was about $1k, then $300 for the KB and pencil. Add another $1k and you get a full PC with the SB2, but do you need it?
You will want to figure out the actual model number of the iPad before making your decision, there are Mini, Air, and Pro models - the models are not designated per year but by generation.
If the model is on the list from the Procreate FAQ and the iPadOS is up to date (you can update it after you buy it), it will run Procreate.
Procreate has an FAQ where they list the iPads they support.
If you get the oldest model supported by the latest iPadOS and Procreate, it will need to be replaced sooner. The newer model you get, the longer it should be supported.
Currently the iPad 5th Gen is the oldest "normal" iPad supported. For reference, it was released in 2017, so it's about 5 years old. They've released a new version almost every year since, but the iPad 4th Gen (not supported) was released in 2012 so it's hard to get a good gauge on how long it will take for a full phase-out on older models.
I went with the iPad 8th Gen because it suited my needs and I personally hope and expect to get at least 4-5 years out of it before reaching impactful deprecation.
Especially if you get one of the more recent models, you shouldn't have to replace it any time soon. You might not get all of the benefits of every update as time goes on (some software updates require new hardware), but your device shouldn't be magically rendered useless and you'll probably have at least a good year's warning to know you're reaching the "must upgrade" moment.
The FAQ on the Procreate website lists the maximum canvas sizes for a variety of iPads, though it does not list how many layers each device supports at their maximum resolution
Procreate is a paid app only available for iPad (as far as I know), but I’m sure there’s a free alternative somewhere. Here’s the Procraate website: https://procreate.art And the calligraphr website: https://www.calligraphr.com/en/
I don’t have a definitive answer for you but here are my thoughts on it.
Screen size: Unless you really need it to be small, or you know you’ll only work on small sized pieces I wouldn’t get a mini for your only iPad.
Layers/RAM: The number of layers you can have depends on how much RAM you have and the resolution/size of the canvas. If you can, try to estimate your work flow and how many layers you might need. Also I haven’t done any animation with procreate yet but I understand that uses more RAM and the amount of RAM limits the length of the animation segment you can make.
Here’s an article from them I found discussing layer limits for the, now released, version 5.2
You should
A: Check For a bug fix update. Maybe someone already mentioned it on the support page of https://procreate.art/support or on the appstore page and they patched it. If no just report the bug

B: Save all the images and uninstall the app and then reinstall it and reimport the images

C: If still does not work report as i mentioned and sit tight for the devs to notice
i think i'd recommend an iPad w/Apple Pencil as well since the artist is new to digital art if only because it's easier to salvage should they not want to continue. it's still a great drawing experience and useful outside of digital art (netflix, games, etc)
another huge part of digital art for the new artist is software choice. my guess is the artist is already aware of software choices but if you go the iPad route, Procreate is a popular first choice
Procreate and comparable image processing apps should perform flawlessly on the 2021 iPad Air with A14 Bionic chip. This iPad model also supports the [Apple Pencil (2nd generation) like the 11” iPad Pro above.
Apple keep expanding the stand alone capabilities of iPads and iPadOS and current models work have no significant drawbacks when used alone.
Many folks seem to use ProCreate to create their drawings. Granted these are usually just images, not whole graphic novels, but maybe it’s limitations give you an idea:
Hi everyone, I have found this information with the release of iPadOS 15 and the quantity of layer you can create depending on the size of the archives and the RAM. In case someone needs it: https://procreate.art/insight/2021/layer-limits
It looks like the current version of the Procreate app works on many iPads but the limiting factor is that it needs iPadOS 13.2 or newer. (This is the operating system that runs the device, and it is updated by Apple from to time.)
This is important because app development doesn't work backwards. In time, the Procreate app will be updated and will probably require a more recent iPadOS. So part of your purchase decision is making sure that you don't buy something that might be outdated soon.
That operating system is a few years old since the current version is up to 15. There are many older iPads that can run iPadOS 13.2 but in many cases their functionality is limited.
Taking all that into consideration, you might want to look at a used iPad 8th generation (which may become available as the new 9th generation iPads are delivered) or may be a 7th generation iPad (which may or may not have some diminished functionality). You should be able to find some close to the price you mentioned.
When shopping for used Apple gear, be diligent. Apple products are extremely fragile, so examine them carefully in person and look for any part of the screen that is cracked, unresponsive, or dark. Check the battery health. Make sure the battery seems to be charging. Make sure the sound works.
To check the generation as you shop, look for the model number:
7th Generation
A2197 (Wi-Fi)
A2200 (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
A2198 (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
8th Generation
A2270 (Wi-Fi Only)
A2428 (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
A2429 (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
A2430 (Wi-Fi + Cellular)
Procreate is a great drawing app in general. For coloring what you can do is find an image online or scan one, then add it to a new procreate file as a background layer. Then you can just add a layer on top and color it in using whatever tools and brushes you want.
Sorry.. Im not sure how to fix it, but did you enlarge/shrink/warp it perhaps? If so, reversing this should put it back in order.
Maybe this can also help.
https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/transform/transform-interpolate/
uhh... I'm all for people learning and using gimp, but you are incorrect about your procreate assumption. I assume those "discussions 2 other communities" one of them is in r/proceate yes? Because there most definitely are easy ways for this in the app.
https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/5.1/adjustments/adjustments-color/
If you want to use gimp, go with saka's #1. Easiest, direct, and your drawing layers remain untouched.
I am using mostly Photoshop and for vector lettering Inkscape is really a great choice. I sometimes design font online with this free tool but I was thinking of buying Procreate for iPad ... I saw some really awesome lettering tutorials.
Make sure your color profile is set to CMYK. Color profiles like RGB and P3 contain colors that are only available on screens. If you're having trouble past that point you can always get in touch with Procreate's friendly support team :)
I think Procreate has what you’re looking for. It’s an incredibly powerful program and is great for much more than just color and lighting.
Badly formatted link from mobile: https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/guides/guides-perspective/
When you set a layer to be the background in your animation, it will always be there, no matter what. same with the foreground. See ProCreate handbook for details: https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/animation/animation-options/
If you're having issues exporting your work that are technical, you can always contact Procreate's support team via their website. They can help you figure it out or find a way to get things to your manufacturer.
Didn't they add that (perspective) already? https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/guides/guides-perspective/
I haven't toyed much with the color correction stuff myself... I need to learn more about it.

some artists also have brushes that they share using dropbox. Download dropbox and a prompt will show up, suggesting Procreate as an option
I think your only option is to save them as .psd and using Adobe Photoshop.
I have not tried this so I'm not sure exactly how it exports it (how the layers look, etc). I would test this out beforehand to ensure it exports it as you expect it to.
https://procreate.art/handbook/procreate/actions/actions-share//
Thanks! I used Inking->Syrup, Airbrushing->Soft Brush, All Star-> Dry Brush. First two comes with Pro-create, last one is free to download here from Procreate! :) https://procreate.art/all-star
I don’t have any brush sets in Procreate, but I do make my own a lot by tweaking existing ones. I use the Procreate handbook to learn what the different properties do and just test them out as I go. So that’s always an option!
I get all my free brushes from the procreate website under “resources” you can even filter just the brushes
https://procreate.art/discussions/10 Peggy dean, kohler, and Maggie nurse or nurse something...are my favorite for calligraphy brushes. I am an actual calligrapher and lettering artist and had made one perfect but after last update it’s not the same, no matter what I tried. I have noticed though if you play with tilt and pressure you can get it pretty close
https://procreate.art/faq - read it, love it. Savage wants you to save your pennies for the stuff that matters (like rent) so they try hard to cover all the before purchase questions.
Per the faq, the iPad 8 gets - 7327 x 7327 as it’s a real 3gb device. A new one is $329 for the cheapest model.
I don’t regret buying my pro for one second. But it’s also a 2017 10.5” device and it’s my only computer so it’s kinda saved me a lot of money over the years and I still don’t strictly need an upgrade. So if you’re absolutely sure you need a pro, go for it. But if the 8th gen is good enough (and it should be with what you say you want), that is a lot less money and it actually has a warranty.
If you look at the official FAQ, there’s 2 parts to what is supported. If your device supports an Apple Pencil, that’s it. That’s the only one that is fully supported and has pressure.
If your device does not support an Apple Pencil, there’s a list of supported styluses. It is very short and very precise. https://procreate.art/faq
https://procreate.art/discussions/10/28/25367 Is the tutorial index thread on the official forums. If you scroll down a bit you’ll find https://procreate.art/discussions/10/28/23106 . The tutorial is a bit old, so where the Curves step says you just invert the line once, in Procreate 5x you need to invert all 4 Curves lines.
Sorry, I forgot the 6. It’s sRGB IEC61966-2.1.
If you mean you’re trying to change it on the canvas, I’m very sorry I gave you bad info here. https://folio.procreate.art/discussions/4/10/44317 Is the thread where I reported to Savage that it’s not possible to change CYMK to RGB and vice versa. It’s not yet marked acknowledged, resolved, not a problem or anything, so it’s not yet logged in their bug system as an issue.
To make this change you need to copy/paste or drag and drop the layers to a new canvas. https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/layers/layers-organize/ Is the handbook section that covers how to do that.
I’m not sure. I think your best bet would be to use the grid lines function and use that as a guide. Good luck though!
Edit. They’re called guide lines. Here’s a link Procreate Guide Lines
https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/gallery/gallery-create/
Scroll down to where it says “use a template”. If you look at the screenshot, the comic canvas is CYMK which is used for (some) printing.
You can copy the layers on your existing canvas to a new one that has the color profile you like. The handbook explains how in the Layers>Share section.
Open the layer menu.
Tap the N for the layer that has the coloring page. A menu will open up with opacity and layer blend mode settings.
Set the blend mode to “multiply” (it’s at the very top of the list). This will make the layer transparent if it has a background.
Now swipe left on the layer, hit the lock button.
Create a new layer if you haven’t already. Hit up https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/layers/layers-organize/ And scroll down to where it says Move to see how to move the layer under your coloring page.
You can use a lot of layers if you want, so you can do your background on a separate layer and then do things like put clothes on a separate layer and faces on a separate layer and hair on a third.
Layers above your coloring page can block the lines. This is actually useful if you want a fully painted look.
There's recolor. I'm not sure how to explain it, so I left a link at the end. It's another alternative to recolor that sounds like how you want it, versus the color fill option with the selection tool.
I'm not a fan as to how procreate relocated recolor, so I added recolor as an option to my quickmenu (check settings on how to activate it).
You’re trying to spend $650 + the $2000ish for the iMac + $300-500 for the iPad to replace... a $300ish iPad. This makes no damn sense.
Procreate on a vanilla iPad works just fine with a capacitive stylus (aka the same as the $5 dumb styluses you can find in many stationery stores) or your finger. Fingers are of course free.
I strongly recommend actually reading the official FAQ https://procreate.art/faq As you are clearly misunderstanding a whole lot of how iPads and Procreate work.
Leonardo is an $80 app and you put right next to the $10 Procreate and it’s mind blowing the amount of features and the how modern and touch design Procreate is to Leonardo. Even the name themselves suggest apps that are created from a completely different era.
Can’t give exact numbers as I’m not allowed to snitch my partner’s gen8 vanilla ipad.
Per the official faq:
There are actually two limits on canvas sizes in Procreate, both imposed by the hardware of the iPad model you're using.
The limit on total canvas size can be found by multiplying the two dimensions of any of the below maximum sizes. For example, the 12.9", 11", and 10.5" iPad Pros can create a canvas up to 67,108,864 pixels total - around 67 megapixels.
The other limit is on any single dimension - width or height. Older iPads (up to the iPad Air 1 and iPad mini 3) can create canvases up to 4,096 pixels in either direction. The iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4 can create canvases up to 8,192 pixels in either direction, and for the iPad Pro models this limit is increased to 16,384 pixels. You can create a canvas of any size and ratio in Procreate as long as it doesn't exceed the width/height limit for your particular device. For example, on the 12.9" and 10.5" iPad Pros, you can make any canvas provided neither side is longer than 16,384 pixels and the total size of the canvas doesn't exceed 67 megapixels.
Here are the maximum canvas sizes by device in pixel:
iPad Pro 12.9", 11", and 10.5"; iPad Air 4 - 16,384 x 4,096, or 8,192 x 8,192 iPad Pro 9.7", iPad (6th generation) and iPad (7th generation) - 8,192 x 4,096, or 16,384 x 2,048 iPad (8th generation) - 7327 x 7327 iPad (5th generation), iPad Air 2, iPad Air 3, iPad mini 4, and iPad mini 5 - 8,192 x 4,096 iPad Air 1 - 4,096 x 4,096
so a Gen8 iPad with a Pencil 1 is going to get you close to the same range of layers as my gen2 iPad Pro. Not quite. But close. We can’t tell you if the max canvas sizes are good enough. We can tell you that most iPads get 2-4 layers with their max canvas size, and newer devices tend to be 4.
Hi there. Yes for sure, totally fine to start with digital tools. There is something to be said though for grabbing an actual pencil and sketchbook and pushing graphite around.
The fundamentals of drawing will apply no matter what tool you are using.
There are courses and tutorials that cover the fundamentals. You can find some YT channels worth checking out in this post.
With an iPad, you might want to consider an app like Procreate. On their website is a guide for getting familiar with the software. You can search for beginners tutorials on YT as well.
Then what you need is the official faq! https://procreate.art/faq
Info straight from the developers based on their testing! Answers tons of common questions! They have a LOT of iPads. The bit you’re interested is in the question "What's the biggest canvas I can make?”.
They report: iPad (8th generation) - 7327 x 7327 Which is uh... a lot bigger than A3. A3 at 300 dpi is 4961 by 3508.
So you probably don’t need to spend more money, unless there’s features you know the Air or Pro have that you actually can use.
Press and hold the check mark for the layer you want to be the only one visible. See also: https://procreate.art/handbook/5.1/layers/layers-interface/
Finding stray marks is part of layer select and is also covered in the handbook. I never use the feature so I can’t remember the details on how to use it. But it’s in the handbook.
Cheapest brand new is gen 8 vanilla ipad + Apple Pencil gen1. Paying a lot more than that for any of the used or refurb options is a bad plan.
Since it sounds like you’re comfortable with drawing and digital already, take a look at the Procreate FAQ in conjunction with what you tend to do for your art now. https://procreate.art/faq
