If you're still having issues with light even after adding blackout curtains, I recommend getting a sleeping mask that has cupped eyepieces instead of just being a flat piece of fabric. Something like these. You'll look like you're wearing a tiny strapless bra on your face, but something about the way they don't put pressure on your eyelids makes them so much more comfortable.
Also, if you like the way your current curtains look and don't want to get rid of them, you can get blackout panels that are designed to go behind your existing curtains. Like these.
A good canteen for water/coffee/tea.
A decent set of scrubs if you are going to be in scrubs a lot. Sometimes hospital scrubs are pretty crappy and you want to be comfortable.

Buy this book. Read it. Give it to all your friends, they should read it as well.
Tell everyone that the difference between NP/PA and an MD are roughly 10.000 Hours of training, probably more. Also tell them that they're allowed independent practice after just 500 shadowing hours, where they just follow someone around. thats 3 months a 40-weeks.
Also, tell all your friends and family always specifically ask for a physician, not for a doctor. its actually very sad it has come to this. everyone knows, in an healthcare setting, a doctor is a laymen-term for physician and laymen simply don't know. this gets abused by NP/PA. its actually abusive if you think about it. you trick someone into consent, by misleading them on purpose and they are fully aware of it. thats actually rape.
> Even for reddit, we need to think about what we are saying.
This. It's basic sanitation. Shovel your shit into a hole and let it ferment by itself.
The crass unprofessionalism in these threads and subthreads is absolutely stunning. Regardless of which side I'm on, semi-anonymous name-calling on the internet is a bad look. Yes what we are seeing is outrageous, but have a little tact and learn how to insult people with class.
And y'all need to learn about medial liability and malpractice. If midlevel encroachment really does infringe on patient safety, that's how you kill it. The only people who can kill something deader than a bunch of lawyers are insurance actuarials
From Australia- probably the biggest names in medical education (med school clinical skills and Physicians [Internal Medicine] training) are Nicholas Talley and Simon O’Connor.
They write a textbook called Essentials of Internal Medicine and I love it. Fair bit smaller than Harrison’s, summarises all the topics into reasonable sized paragraphs, language is easy to follow.
It’s my Number 1 resource recommendation for the Royal Australasian College of Physicians written exam. Their other famous textbook Examination Medicine is the bible for the clinical exam.
I do agree with the previous advice about reading around your patients- best way contextualise the knowledge.
I've used a cheap paid service called Private Internet Access, about $50/year. Plenty of alternative services, I'm sure you can find some good recommended ones elsewhere on Reddit, I don't endorse any particular one but PIA has been good for me. From initial installation, it's a matter of setting which country you want to connect through then browsing normally.
It's important to do your due diligence and not trust VPN services with private login information, especially not free ones. I only trust PIA because in court proceedings they have verified that they don't log user traffic.
No not those, even though I have like 2-3 of those sitting in my locker right now for procedures/covid patients.

Something like this went a LONG way for me. The black one looks nice enough even with regular clothes.
Well without delving too much into specifics, that's a pretty simplistic and misunderstood view of libertarianism. I can't blame you much since there are different flavors of libertarianism, including a bunch of idiots into conspiracy theories and whatever.
Your example seems to imply you think libertarians are isolationist and selfish. The isolationist claim seems to stem from an inability to imagine various goods provided without taxation and government, when in reality, every good and service has been studied by libertarians and free-market economists. For example Loyola economist and libertarian Walter Block wrote a book on the privatization of roads: https://www.amazon.com/Privatization-Roads-Highways-Economic-Factors/dp/147833844X. Some libertarians have even extensively written about the specifics of how private law and security services might work.
Granted, that doesn't prove any of these things would work. Privatizing these things initially seems backwards and fraught with problems, but many of the basic objections that almost everybody makes have been considered before and addressed.
Regarding the selfish claim, libertarians aren't against charity, teamwork, or contributing to common goals, but only to it being done through taxation rather than on a voluntary basis.

There was a great divide between MD and DO. I was applying for DO schools during my premed years, so I had to read DO history (ended up getting into MD). Anyway, there was a California merger. But DOs still persisted.
This is the book i read. See if your local library has it. It's a good read. You'd be surprised how DOs changed over the years and even defied their founder A.T. Still, and how they've become very similar to MD now. Biggest piece of action was the California Merger that almost wiped out all DO schools in California.
Osteopathic Journal JAOA mentioned this too: https://jaoa.org/article.aspx?articleid=2094883
> Even after the American Medical Association (AMA) opened its doors to DOs to join local and state medical associations as well as the AMA itself and gave its blessing to them entering allopathic residency programs and becoming MD board certified, the DOs stood fast for their independence.
Used a parker jotter , medium point black ink throughout residency myself. At $10 it made me pay enough attention not to lose it. But also, $10 wasn't gonna break me if I did lose it.
+1 for YNAB, cannot recommend it enough! I think you can sign up for one month free and then email them you want an extended trial for 3 months and then email again that you're a student and get a year free after that. Visit r/YNAB and they may be able to tell you exactly how to do this as it's been a while.
By ridiculing the noctor using the common catchphrase of the noctors? The heart of a nurse, brain of a doctor is a common quip of noctors of the nurse practitioner variety. I chose to ridicule this noctor using it.
If that makes you so enraged to continue posting and accuse others of being “butthurt” and making you want them to “sod off,” then I stand by what I called you: a simp. A simp for these noctors who harm patients.

I love this bra:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PZDPK9Q/ref=twister_B07Q2MLX5N
I'm an OB resident with a D cup so I don't wear this one on the labor floor because if I end up sprinting down the hallway for something, which is typical, its basically like running braless. But for more chill rotations it is the most comfortable bra I own, I have like 5 of them.
Honestly just use the cheap ones on amazon because they come in a 3 pack and don't actually touch my eyelid, which I like. (Basically they "puff out" where my eye is and make a seal around the eyes, so they keep light out but don't press on my actual eyeballs, if that makes sense.)
I bought this case as a MS1 because I wanted something to protect my stethoscope while it was in my back pack. It's light and small and I also keep my reflex hammer, flashlight and any patient notes that need to be shredded in the case and it's easy to throw in my purse, backpack, etc.
Are you not familiar with DO history? California DO's merged with MD several decades ago. The doors were never closed, and AMA has a seat offered for DO representative in their committee but never filled to this day. Below is a quick google from JAOA article.
Also, I encourage you to read the book from you local/school library entitled "The DOs: Osteopathic Medicine in America ". It gives you an accurate account of the DO profession history. I read it in preparation for my DO school interviews to be more knowledgeable.
From JAOA article: > Nationally, the California merger created great solidarity among osteopathic members of state and national osteopathic associations. They rebuffed further efforts at amalgamation and championed the continuation of the DO degree. Even after the American Medical Association (AMA) opened its doors to DOs to join local and state medical associations as well as the AMA itself and gave its blessing to them entering allopathic residency programs and becoming MD board certified, the DOs stood fast for their independence.
$40 on Amazon - They don't pay me to advertise them, unfortunately. Little bit pricey in my opinion but I get my work done very efficiently because of it.

I do a surgical mask + these cheap bracket/spacer things to keep the mask from sucking into my mouth when I exhale - they were a game changer for me! I also just ordered some from My Shield that were recommended to me by a lot of people at my gym (which is now requiring masks) but haven't yet tried them out.
It sucks, but I hear you - you gotta do what you gotta do to keep yourself sane and honestly, you get used to it pretty quickly.
I wear carhart worksite eye glasses with some croakies. Only about 15 bucks all in so I won’t be heartbroken when I eventually lose them somewhere in the OR. If you’re around a lot of fluoro, probably smart to look into leaded glasses.

Hello mod. I want to run a question by you before I post something to this group. I am a palliative medicine NP in a multidisciplinary consult based practice. I and my colleagues spend a fair amount of time with learners ranging from other fellows, PA students, med students, and residents. A common theme that comes up is that there is a limited amount of time spent on developing the skill set for difficult family conversations. I spent the past few years building a telemedicine program and teaching within clinical practice. I decided to go a step further and write a book in hopes of informing both clinicians and the lay public about the role of palliative medicine. I use short stories as examples for what to consider and how to engage some of the challenging dialogs we are all faced with. I would like to present this resource to the larger group because I think that would be valuable. Can you guide me on how best to do this without breaking any rules? The book is titled: Speaking Human: A Journey in Palliative Medicine Thanks, Craig
I used the steth ‘n go my intern year and loved it

Use Schwab. I have a Roth IRA, brokerage, checking, and Coverdell ESA account through them. No complaints about service and I like having everything in one place rather than a separate institution for banking, another for investing, another for my retirement, and another for college savings.
Transfer $500/month direct deposit into the Roth IRA if you can. That'll hit the yearly max of $6000.
For 401k, you can email HR and ask them about it. A lot of hospitals specifically exempt residents from being eligible for the 401k match.
I was going to bring up the same point. I hate comic sans because of the joke it has become, but originally it was made so people with dyslexia could read it (supposedly). https://creativemarket.com/blog/is-comic-sans-easier-for-dyslexic-users-to-read
