ehm, probably should've said that I didnt actually draw this, its an artpack and arranged the table to my liking. sry for was not my intention to mislead, just a stupid mistake on my end <.<.
If you want the art, i got them from there: https://gumroad.com/limonium
OBS has the option to record as well as stream. If you have an NVIDIA graphics card, you can use the built in software feature called Shadowplay to record as well.
If you're looking for some customisable assets, I make a collection of table designs and drag-and-drop trinkets called The Adventurer's Table, which gets expanded every month or so (the next one coming is for Dungeon of the Mad Mage). Take a look!
You could go for a minimalistic approach, there’s a website called noun project that will let you download tons of icons that you can use to represent a sci-fi setting.
It would look less realistic and more like blue prints, giving a unique look to what you run.
Hey Adam, I found this resource recently and thought you may be able to use it for future role-playing stuff, http://www.oldmapsonline.org/
It's a site with a whole bunch of cool old map archived on it, just type in a location and away you go.
This one is a personal favorite the detail is really nice http://www.oldmapsonline.org/map/unibern/001055998

This is the Variant version of encumbrance. The 15x Str score is the default simplified version of encumbrance (simply called carrying capacity) and is also supported on the sheet, simply toggle the encumbrance setting in the sheet settings menu to off which tells the sheet to only worry about the carrying capacity rules. You do of course need to check with your GM to see which rules your game is using.
You can find the details on both rule types in the 5e compendium on roll20; Encumbrance & Carrying Capacity
There is a starter set that comes with everything you need:
It’s got dice, character sheets, the core rules, an adventure aimed at new players, it’s a great kit.
This subreddit is for https://roll20.net , the site that allows you to play tabletop games online with other people. DnD is among them and is probably prevalent. There are specialized subreddits for roleplaying systems, such as /r/DnD /r/dndnext /r/Pathfinder etc. If you are looking for a group to play with, you may join Roll20 and use its group search function. Or you could try subreddits like /r/roll20LFG
D&D splash pages are my jam! I make The Adventurer's Table, a customisable version of this, and expand it every month-ish with new items or campaign-specific packs. The most recent is a set built for Dragon Heist. I love the style you've got going with your table (though it's a little text heavy for my tastes, I prefer to leave it to my players to write their quest log). I'd definitely consider some trinkets that commemorate each player's backstory, and some trophies from their adventures once you're further into your campaign. Also, depending on the type of campaign you're running, you might want to consider an area where they can determine their own marching order/formation. Even just a grid where they can drag their tokens around would do the trick!

Keep it up!
I know you were directed here, but I don't think this subreddit can help you out with learning to play D&D or playing D&D in particular. There is a tutorial on Roll20 that you should definitely watch, but otherwise your biggest concern is going to be finding a game. Try /r/roll20LFG to find one or just use Roll20 to browse for games with openings. If you look on Roll20, make sure the game is marked as "welcome to new players." If you look elsewhere, make sure your group knows you're new to the game when you ask to join. In my experience, most games/groups are fine with new players, but some aren't. You might have to apply to a few groups, but make sure whatever games you apply to sound interesting to you.
Then what you'll want to do is either buy the Player's Handbook for the D&D edition you're playing or use the SRD to make a character. For reference, most people seem to be playing 5e or 3.5, but I think it's much easier to learn 5e's rules than 3.5's since there are less. Roll20 actually has races, classes, and spells listed (at least for 5e; that's what I play), though it's a limited selection. For your first time though, this should be fine.
Finally, when you get all set up, don't go into the game expecting it to be like Stranger Things. Every D&D group is different, but most are really fun. If you aren't enjoying yourself, it's okay to leave the group, but give it a few sessions before making up your mind unless you absolutely hate it. Sometimes you won't like the group itself, and that's okay. Good luck!
I don't know if this will work but if you look at the compendium on roll20, they link to headings using the pound or number sign [#]. For example: https://roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Weapons#toc_7. So if you are linking from within in your handout try [journal#heading] or from within chat, use the example like above. Also, you might try veritcal bar [|] instead since that is like what they use in other calls.
Those are suggestions though, I don't know. And a quick search of the forum did not convey anything quickly.
Sure thing, but I've also launched a new KS to keep me entertained. You should check it out, we're making tokens for Roll20. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1534484023/arcknight-fun-virtual-tabletop-tokens
Whenever I have doubt with CSS, I use some code playground, like JsFiddle. The nice thing with them is (in addition to being focused environments) that if you get really stuck, you can then share a link to it to someone.
I made a minimal example (by copying stuff from the Savage Worlds char sheet) here: <https://codepen.io/anon/pen/PdoxRJ> . No styling, just the div visibility controlling via a checkbox with pure CSS.
I hope that helps!
It's not on the Marketplace, but I make customisable home pages/splash screens for Roll20. You can use XMAS18 to get 20% off everything from the Classic and Curio sets right now too!
Depends on what system you use.
I like Yet Another Pathfinder Character Generator, which seems to be the most up to date with the splatbooks. Requires Excel and a fairly beastly PC/patience as its an epic of a spreadsheet now.
PCGen handles D&D 3.5, Pathfinder and D&D 5e.
The Roll20 mobile app also allows you to access the in-game sheets and use them.
Afraid we need more info if it's not one of those.
Hmm. I think I tried to get that to work at some point with a Google Site, but it hasn't worked...
Roll20 essentially uses Google and that means they need to have your site indexed. Means these images need to be part of a website where they can be seen by the google spider and indexed.
I just nudged the google bot again to index my site... if it works I'll tell you.
In case it is original content you made yourself you could post it on the Dunjinni Forums. Roll20 pulls most assets from there when you search. It would have the sideeffect of sharing your work with the community.
I assume it's pretty similar to my strategy with Pixlr, so I'll share that too. :)
I believe I also added a gradient, and use the paintbrush to change the colour of the ring. Was your process similar?
Also, you can use a pretty nice online Photoshop clone called Photopea at https://www.photopea.com/
I just tested it opening a PDF and it worked fine. Then you can save as anything you want.
You haven't ACTUALLY said what didn't work about GIMP thought.
Here is the link for Gimp - it is basically just a free version of photoshop. Since you can upload any art asset to your private games, many users use this software to create art. Take a look at our Game Resources wiki to see all the tools we recommend.
No problem, just there are some easier solutions for those on MacOS and Linux.
For windows one way is to grab the pdfbin-win download from: http://www.foolabs.com/xpdf/download.html
See http://superuser.com/questions/134869/how-to-extract-image-from-pdf-file for some examples on how to use it.
While our voice and video chat is constantly improving, some users have had issues using it for live streaming. If you are willing to spend a little, you might also look into Zoom: https://zoom.us/
I also prefer Xsplit for recording, but OBS is free and is starting to have some great Twitch/recording options. I also recommend using Twitch's built-in system to create VODs for a YouTube channel for yourself to try to double your reach.
Yup, i used this online tool:
https://azgaar.github.io/Fantasy-Map-Generator/
Sometimes it can get quite slow to operate because it has a **ton** of customization options, but it is good for that reason ^^
A commissioned map in Inkarnate's Watercolor Cities style, using Inkarnate PRO. Asked was a map with swamps in the West and forests in the East, and a mountain in the North-West.There are three settlements, a village in the South-West and another in the North. With a town in the South-East.
The village in the South-West was named after an animal living in the river. The village in the North-West is a place with some mining industry. Population-wise my guide was 150 per each village and 750 for the town.
However, I didn't follow that closely. All the rest I was mostly free to fill out myself. So there are some ruins here and there. A herbalist, etc. etc.
The map is available for cloning, so don't hold back. But please give credit. Check out my other maps and follow me on social media! All the links are in my Linktree http://linktr.ee/itscatnip
This huge luxurious riad has all your party may need on their desert adventure and more.
Guestrooms, great food, baths, a theatre and gorgeous gardens and water features... like an oasis in the desert. Just also finished the top floor, the rest is still on the way. Might take another week or so.
This map and the others will be available at my inkarnate profile http://linktr.ee/itscatnip
I misunderstood the question. Thought you were looking for ambient sounds. I can't think of a great solution for sharing music..
Maybe watch2gether or something like that for listening to soundcloud together.
Maybe a free shoutcast server for uploading and streaming your own music playlist.
I think I saw a post that the Players Handbook is on selling on Amazon for $20.00 normally $50.00.
Yes very significant maps. The map of Avernus itself for example does not let you measure distances when vehicle fighting or travel. It is this map https://www.amazon.com/Gale-Force-Nine-GF972793-Dungeons/dp/B07XSY7CHF
I would also like to point out that dice are traditionally always depicted as red by Penny Arcade.
So a pink d20 is clearly a deliberate choice, and there really is only two things they could be referencing; Roll20 or Shelly Mazzanoble.
Apple finally approved the iOS version over the weekend, but I guess no one wanted to submit the Android app until yesterday. It is up now though: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.roll20.playerappandroid
Roll20 sucks on a tablet. I would not recommend it at all. As for a Chromebook. I run Roll20 on a Chromebook for our display at gaming and it works great. I use this one.
This one is 26% off right now on Amazon. Its a resin printer. But if you use water washable resin, (I THINK) you won't need a special washer machine for the figures. Then it takes a bit of effort to sand the little supports off the parts.
The printer is a bit small tho, so you would have to print vehicles in parts, but it should be good for units. And for figures there is my mini factory where 3d artists sell figures that LOOK like 40k but aren't.
3d printing is a bit tedious, my cousins do it and say its worth it. I just say "can I interest you in a 3d printer" as a joke when someone mentions GW.

Some of our maps are already available in Foundry through Moluinette (https://foundryvtt.com/packages/moulinette-core). We’re working to make this true for as many maps as possible.
For now, you can export images from the app using a built-in tool. Still, we also plan to create a built-in video export tool—these exported images (and later videos) can be used in Foundry VTT without difficulty.
Thank you for your suggestion!
Well, plans definitely, but unfortunately it's not that easy. We're researching if it's possible to integrate an app like this. If we can find out there'll be an announcement.
In the meantime, some of our maps are available in Foundry through Moluinette (https://foundryvtt.com/packages/moulinette-core). We’re working to make this true for as many maps as possible.
Thank you for asking!
First off, the Rakshasa is available in the Roll20 Compendium so it's drag and droppable, so you don't need to do anything. Second, following the NPC Sheet guide should help.
There are five compendiums with rule support from inside the VTT Open Gaming Licensed content including Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, Dungeon World, Starfinder, and Dramasystem (the OGL for Hillfolk).
There are dozens of Character Sheets from the Roll20 team and created by the community.
But before that, Roll20 is one place with shared dice, a shared space for visuals, and chat/voice/video. So, you can play any game you want to set up.
I’d love to hear what games you’re interested in playing. I started with D&D, but I love mechanic-light systems like Apocalypse World, and pure storytelling like Fiasco or Kids on Bikes.
I don't actually work for Roll20, I'm just a subreddit moderator. That said, when you're logged into Roll20 you can go to the home page and click "Create New Game". That should take you to the screen to start a game. Once you've made the room, you can click "Launch game" to jump into the game room.
You can also invite other players to the game by clicking "Invite Players" above the players list and send people the join link.
Reading an SRD for a game you're interested in is a good place to start. Dungeons & Dragons 5e is the most popular game if you're willing to start with anything. Then start a Roll20 table just to learn how to /roll 1d20 for example. Then also maybe add a character sheet to the table if there is one for the game you ware interested in. Make a character and click around just to get a little familiar.
I use GIMP_2.8 and I add two of the uncolored pictures as layers over the colored one. Then I color out all the white from one, and all the black from the other. Then I mess with the layers until I'm happy with it.
I am using OBS and a Word document. I set it up graphically in Word, then import the video/audio sources from Word and Skype, and add some additional graphics layers (the background, Roll20, some frames for everyone's webcams).
I've uploaded my files here: http://hammerand.com/goldenh/rpg/dresden%20files.zip But setup is kind of difficult. Install OBS, put the dresden directory in c:\Files\OBS\dresden , open the Word file and then import the xconf file into a OBS Scene. If you're lucky, when you click preview scene it'll 'just work', (it tries to grab the video from a pop-out skype call called 'dresden files') otherwise you'll have to fiddle with OBS more.
Thanks for the mentor info. I'm sure it's worth it the more you learn about the system, but the free version has been wonderful for me so far.
(I use Masterplan in tandem with Roll20, with great success.)
Do you happen to have any links to your map/token resources? Even though I'm really just starting out, I'm also a bit of a hoarder when it comes to such things. This is one recent online resource I've found (if you haven't seen it already): https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B45nupMN7PeATFVkUFJOMWxkQ28&usp=sharing
I'm always happy to find more :)
Yes, it's all Photoshop. I "borrowed" some random pictures from Google, and basically had some inspiration from other similar images I've seen. Most of the other ones were more "structured" like a videogame menu, which I thought was pretty cool. I wanted to go with something similar, but more organic, if that makes sense, so I settled with a table/desk.
I started with a high-res wood grain background, and then slowly started layering things on top of each other. It's not perfect, and I know I could do a much better job, but it works!
You should check out this fellow's work: https://gumroad.com/limonium
/u/Limonium is a fellow redditor, and I think his content looks to be a great place to start!
AllHarlowsEve Yeah...if it was just "kek" memes it would not be an issue, we kinda go "a bit" further. Its a social thing first, a game second, and roleplay? Eeh, no.
We just insist on controlling "membership" of the club if you will, you will understand one day when you are feel like you just need to hang out with some friends that can maintain a respectful dialogue.
And well, the Co-Founder had plenty of time to moderate the damn subreddit instead of running his business so what else do you want me to expect? I have no technical understanding that allows me to determine if the staff at roll20.net can take a peek at what we are up to, or not.
I honestly apologize for trying to respectfully ask a serious question. I will not disturb the masters of this echo chamber any further, you have made your point.

GIMP is a free alternative to Photoshop I can recommend to this kind of things. Haven't really done much maps, but GIMP have served me well in any slightly more complex photo-editing.
I use GIMP_2.8 and "photo-shop" out what I don't want, and add in what I do. The quality is mostly about how much time one is willing to put into it, but also how simple the task is. That picture, while having high detail had a solid background which made removing it a walk-in-the-park.
Also making lightsaber blades is super easy once you get the hang of it. Then just throw in a triangle shape here-and-there and 'smug tool' this-and-that and you have a swinging saber blade.
If you want me to share what little I know about it, I'm Dark-Lark#0742 on Discord.
May I suggest if someone hasn’t already https://tabletopaudio.com
They may some nice ambient sound files that you can download. They are typically ten minutes each so it’s not a Short grating loop and are short enough to upload without breaking your file space
You don’t even have to buy a standard PC. A cheap chromebook should be sufficient for a viewing layer. It would just require an HDMI out.
This one, for example, is on sale for $130 at Target and has HDMI out. I also think chromebooks make great couch computers and your wife might prefer it to her kindle.
Hey y'all! Some of you might remember The Adventurer's Table from a month or so ago - it's a hand-painted splash screen for online RPGs, with drag-and-drop trinkets to make your perfect, personalised table. As your players continue their journey, their table expands with new trinkets to commemorate their victories.
Now, there's a new collection of wacky trinkets for those players who have a little quirk (or a lot of quirks!). The Maverick's Pack contains new items like a runed puzzle cube, a delicious fish, a candy necklace, and a friendly caterpillar companion! The pack goes live Tuesday 31st July on my store: gumroad.com/limonium
If you have ideas for future packs (I'm already working on a set perfect for Dragon Heist and Dungeon of the Mad Mage!), leave them in the comments! I'd love to hear your ideas!
Just looked around for free images from duckduckgo and then used Krita to assemble them together into the desk scene.
Tbh it must be years since I have done anything like this, but Krita is really good (so much more intuitive than GIMP) and it was actually easier than I thought.
I might post the Krita project file with all the layers etc. if people are interested.

Meant to be used with THIS tent I found on Roll20. Just make the map for the inside of the tent and put this over it, then play it for a cinematic show for the players.
Here's the Reddit thread where the OP shows off the map itself. Wonderdraft is a wonderful tool for campaign creators and its subreddit is fairly active.
I heard that if you own the books in d&d beyond you can buy the foundry, and with plugins do everything in roll-20 except slicker, although I haven't tried it yet
I was thinking the same thing the other night in one of my games. And what's up with that bug where the name of the game appears in a little black bar in the top left corner, partially obscuring the control bar? Le Sigh. If only there was something better.
Doors Foundry import encounters from DnD Beyond? The Roll20 modules have encounter maps setup with monster tokens in the appropriate locations and linked to their relevant stats. Dynamic lighting is preconfigured so you get fog of war too, although it's a bit janky.
From this link it sounds like you still need to set all that up by hand in Foundry: D&D Beyond Integration
You could look into foundry, it is $50 for the DM, but has pretty much all the roll20 premium features. The catch is you self-host so a small amount of technical knowledge is required. Most of that is on the DM though, it is just as easy to use for the players.
During the convention, some of your favorite streamers and publishers will be live on Twitch helping us raise money for Cybersmile, the international non-profit supporting victims of cyberbullying.

Tokens that aren't top down, and are easy to tell apart at various zoom levels.
I get the appeal of top down tokens, but I find them harder to work with in-game. They start to look too similar, so it's easy as a GM to accidentally move the wrong one or make the wrong decision because you were sure you were closing on in the fighter, not the paladin.
I make my own tokens from icons I got from icons8.com, but this has lead to some quirky decisions since they're not really made for fantasy. For example, our druid is a potted plant, which is funny, but I'd prefer something a bit less silly for when the mood is serious.
I have a ton of semi-generic tokens ready to go. Due to other work, I bought a huge set of icons from a design site (icons8.com), and they've worked really, really well. Due to their style, they're easy to see at most zoom levels, which can be helpful when you're moving around the map.
I believe icons8 has a free set, but you can find a good number of icons just by searching for 'thing' + icon.

Ideally, people should be using tools like Keepass such that their passwords are unique to a given site or service.
If this is done, it really doesn't matter if your password hash is leaked - it will accomplish approximately nothing extra for an attacker to get that, given that they had access to the system utilizing that password.
I hate this too, but it doesn't look like there's a way around it. My advice? Get Stylus or similar, and insert this CSS:
.steal span {
display: none !important;
}
Right outside of town a carnival has set up tent(s). Right by the road, they'll be here for a few days until they move on to another town. Can you pull out the sword? Hit the bullseye or bob some apples?
This map was made with Battlemap 2.0 style which is coming to Inkarnate soon.
My first try at a night scene.
For free downloads of this map and many others check out my Inkarnate profile via http://linktr.ee/itscatnip
If this is too hard for you, you might try http://pdf2jpg.net/
It's not ideal for longer documents and of course privacy is a concearn (with uploading the document), but since you are only asking for extracting maps, you should be fine.
I used it for some stuff of my RotR stump and We Be Goblins and and it works fine.
Let me chime in from February 2021 after facing the same issue and searching far and wide. In my case it turned out to be the Private Internet Access (PIA) Chrome plugin that was causing the issue, even though there was no active VPN connection. After disabling it I could log in without problems.
Looks like the Essentials Kit is also on sale right now.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/0786966831/
OP, either of these kits is a great place to start. The main difference between the two is the adventure that is included.
I use a projector for my table and have it hooked up to this: https://www.amazon.com/Asus-CHROMEBOX-M004U-ASUS-Desktop/dp/B00IT1WJZQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1513440475&sr=8-3&keywords=chrome+box It works fantastic and it is fast.
It's not that difficult, I probably spent more time getting the first few maps imported into the system (almost went with storm kings BECAUSE you can just buy the digital version, but Strahd interests me more) than I needed too.
after the first session I realized that my guys (who are also kindda new to DnD) weren't completely sure what to do. I stressed on session two... "Narration!" Describe what your guy is doing and I'll tell you if you can or cannot do that. After the first hour everyone got the hang of working together.
Ranger wasn't doing anything because being out of combat he didn't realize that he can just talk about what his character is doing. Also the Rogue was getting cocky.
Listen to your whole group, if half the group is talking a lot, slow them down, or throw a couple 1/2 Challenge mobs in front of them (Animated Brooms can be fuN!). First two floors of DH are empty, make sure you talk about the weird flavor text in each room.
At the end of session 2 the group is about to stumble into the altar room. See if you can find a good chanting sound track. I never got around to adding it, but having that cult chanting in the background that gets louder as they get close to the stairs should be pretty creepy.
Here's a resource that a DM friend recommended. It's got some GREAT pointers for new and seasoned DMs.
Never Unprepared: The Complete Game Master's Guide to Session Prep (EGP42003)
It's a fairly fast read and came with some good suggestions.
Good luck.
If you want to use an Android phone as a voice changer mic (connecting aux cable from it to your other equipment or external speaker), you can use our apps.
Plug in the aux cable, and then press the Record button - you will get real-time output (the 12-voices usable for Darth/Kylo/Bane/Stormtrooper/C3PO etc.) - each of the voices are individually customizable in real-time.
There is a small latency on android - and that can trip up some cosplay - so maybe keep the phrases short (so your own voice on external speaker doesn't trip you up).

Amazing MP3 Recorder
We also have an version of that with a more conventional layout which some users like more, otherwise it has the same features:

Hi-Res Audio Recorder
This probably isn't the answer you're looking for, but I just use this app on my phone.
It lets you set up spell lists for different characters and its pretty easy to swap spells in and out for a Cleric.
However, in practice, I barely ever actually swap any Cleric spells out. Once you've got a few levels under your belt you get in a groove and have a pretty good understanding of what spells you want (and what spells didn't translate over well in this edition and are therefore crap. There's a few).
