Safety is important. Games like Gorn or Thrill of the Fight can lead to broken controllers, TVs, hands, etc. Consider letting your feet help tell you that danger is near. I use :
Personally I don't like the plastic headstraps because I like to lean back on the couch and they get in the way. I have this cushion and I'm quite fond of it: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08TRCJC7S/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Safety is important and has to be addressed as you set up to play. If attacked, and possessed with the need to retaliate, you can punch really fast right through electronic boundaries.

When I step off the mat, I stop.
As an additional measure, I put cardboard boxes in front of the TV and piano. I would hate to break the TV; the piano would win and break my hand and controller. The moving blanket draped over the French doors has kept me from being a star on r/ VRtoER.
> I know the PSVR isn't as dynamic but it's much cheaper.
Then look at a Windows Mixed Reality headset. Supports roomscale, like the Vive and Oculus. Has higher resolution than Vive, Rift, PSVR. Works with SteamVR (like the Vive and Rift)
You can find them on sale for cheaper than the PSVR. (Here's a HP WMR headset for $225 on Amazon)
I own all the headsets, so feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
In terms of tracking, good enough.
In terms of ergonomics, no. (Oculus feels more premium).
In terms of resolution, better with a smaller sweet spot.
In terms of setup, easier as you don't need to worry about Sensor placement.
--
Of course if you can find WMR for ~$200 then its good. (The Lenovo Explorer is on sale on Amazon in the US for $170, at the moment).
Getting my Rift was a good choice, however in my option all the headsets offer similar enough experience that brand loyalty is overblown (I own each type). I can't say the Rift is that much more amazing. Only minor difference exists in terms of experience and for most people there's no practical difference. (Most people claiming their is tend to be fanboys justifying their team/tribe)
I like to say a WMR is 95% of the way to a Rift for 50% (if you can find it on sale for that)
They are good enough that I actually stopped using my Vive for demos at conventions and events. Because I was able to pick up a few Lenovo's and an HP. I now use a Samsung Odyssey on my VR development notebook as it's portable and easy to set up. Moving to WMR allowed me to setup Roomscale on location easier and offer more headsets to use.
I recommend WMR as a great budget option for anyone wanting to get started with PC VR.
Happy to answer any specific questions you have.
Don't be torn, get the Quest.
Also, if you can afford a max graphics VR PC, you can probably afford to stick a £20 5ghz PCI card in your PC and connect directly: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ziyituod-Bluetooth5-0-2974Mbps-Wireless-Bluetooth/dp/B07Z1W8Y16/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=pci+wireless+5g&qid=1610207282&s=electronics&sr=1-4

> if I can buy another router with 5 GHz WiFi, connect my RJ45 to it then connect another RJ45 to my pc and use the 5GHz bandwidth for myself?
Yes, this is exactly how I have mine set up. You need to configure your router to "access point" mode and it will just act like another wired and wireless network switch. Just connect your Quest to that Router's 5ghz SSID. If you're in the US, this router is fantastic for $40 https://www.amazon.com/TP-Link-AC1200-Smart-WiFi-Router/dp/B07N1L5HX1
Keep in mind, the current V30 firmware has caused wifi instability with the Quest's wifi making it drop out or fluctuate in speed randomly. Supposedly the new V31 firmware has fixed it and is rolling out now.
I tried a 3-metre cable with my Quest 2, but it’s too limiting. I bought a cheap router to use exclusively for my Quest 2, and now I just use Virtual Desktop to play PCVR wirelessly, and it works flawlessly.
I WOULD LOVE ONE :O! (or ten lol)
If you Discord, hop on in: https://discord.com/invite/SvxFPd5

I can also DM you a direct download link if that's easier :D
As long as it's at least a 5ghz router you'll be fine. There are even cheaper routers you can use...I bought this one for $80.
I bought a $20 USB-C cable (instead of the official $80 one) for link but ended up using wireless (with Virtual Desktop) exclusively. I never use the cable really (even though it works perfectly), but I did keep it just in case of network issues(which I haven't had). So, even if you sell that official cable, you can still buy a replacement for cheap.
Yes. A lot of people have done exactly that(buy a router for only Quest use).
This is all good advice.
If you don't want to use meds, a seasickness band also helped me (read the instructions to make sure you position them correctly).
Start with games like "I Expect You to Die" which can be played in a seated position.
If you start feeling sick, stop playing immediately (do NOT try to "power through it"). Over time, you'll notice your sessions getting longer and longer.
And pay attention to the "Comfort" ratings for each game in the Oculus store - these can help you figure out which games will be better for you. And if you do find yourself getting sick in a particular game, you can refund a game within 2 weeks (and less than 2 hours of playtime).
Someone told me to get this
It was worth it. It's easy to clean, comfortable and it blocks light.
VR headsets will only work with VR games since half the screen goes to one eye and the other half goes to the other. For VR games, the same picture is shown on both halves, with a slight difference in the perspective. For a normal game, each of your eyes will be seeing totally different things. It won't work.
I've used something like this. The super cheap ones are garbage that don't stay bent. There are also pop socket mounts that you can stick on things.
The second half of your post, you can just buy AMVR grip with the straps and now you can let go of your hands securely. Grabbing stuff and throwing it is possible with the grips, I’m out here yeeting stuff to different states with em. Hahaha
But index is a awesome device, my friend offered his to me for $400 so I have one but I don’t use it as much as my quest 2
So anyone that wants to play games that require throwing and you want it to feel immersive, you’re welcome.

The VR Power one's got straps built in. With mine i've got a bracket that clamps onto my headstrap to hold it in place. I've seen people stick them to the strap with rubber bands and hair ties though. You just have to get creative if you don't want to spend the extra money on engineered solutions.
I had this problem recently. Picked a HDMI to Display Port cable off of Amazon. DP end into my graphics card and the HDMI end into the monitor.

Edit: included link
In short, yes. The longer answer is that depends on the type of game you're playing (seated: forward-facing is fine vs. roomscale: diagonal corners tends to work better) and a third sensor can be helpful but isn't required. If you can budget an extra $60 for the sensor, though, do it. Amazon sells one that includes a USB 2.0 extension cable for free. I would definitely recommend an Oculus Rift over Windows Mixed Reality so long as you are not going to have a problem with the sensors. One key feature the Rift has over the Lenovo Explorer is IPD adjustment. This is the distance between your pupils and can have a significant impact on whether or not you suffer from VR-induced headaches or nausea. The Rift also has the best controllers on the market, at least until valve releases their Knuckles controllers.
But do all usb C cables work for this ? I have seen one at Amazon claiming to be oculus compatible https://www.amazon.de/dp/B0879DGZ5W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_8w3GFbQ007W86 But i don't know why this other one shouldn't work: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08925X26S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fab_Ox3GFbSZTT2YR
Before buying the cable I will probably try Virtual Desktop
Don't bother with hard drives, They're only useful for cheap mass storage and external hard drives are painfully slow, Their read write speeds are terrible, You want an external SSD as fast as possible, At the very least USB3.1 for speeds in the 500Mbps read/write range would be ideal, Something like the Seagate Barracuda external SSD, I myself have the 500GB model I got on sale and its read/write speeds are in the 500Mbps range which is great for games, You also need to make sure you have a USB3.1 or greater connection on your computer.
I got this : https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B013Z73TWA?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 The 9 liter one.
Amazon.co.uk ships to US and in stock now, you even just login with your same Amazon account. Pico is not sold in U.S. and may never be the way things are going for ByteDance. Import and enjoy. Most the headsets we enjoy are being made outside the country and imported anyways, might as well skip some of the middle men and import yourself.
This is the one I got and I’ve been very satisfied with it. It was the most recommended at the time for VR, but that was about 6 months ago or so fyi. But I bet it’s still a good choice.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09PTK7J4R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
you could try that. I used it when I first got the quest 2. Not too really any difference between that and the oculus link cable.
from a technical standpoint it's actually amazing the artwork and tech epic uses to get that psuedo cel-shaded look in fortnite. I'd honestly take that as a complement if I were this dev lol

I felt my glasses were close to and at times hitting the lenses even with the spacer. I didn't notice any scratches but preemptively bought some $14 lens protectors (https://www.amazon.com/KIWI-design-Integrated-Anti-Scratch-Scratching/dp/B094CZ9RJ1).

I think they have some other cables too if you want to check them out.
It's a fairly off the shelf set that Alesis made for Ion as the "pro" version of the rockband drumkit. The Midi brain was USB terminated with xbox or playstation branding and buttons to enable console use. All drums and cymbals use 1/4" TRS for signalling. One of the features they touted at the time is you could "graduate" with it to a standard midi controller and use them as a normal E-kit.
I guess the only way to know would be for me to dig my controller out, install the game and find out. As a general rule, windows recognizes all wired xbox controllers from 360 onward tho.
I'll be happy to update you once I try so you can answer other people with the same question. Was just hoping someone else had already confirmed it.
You can play Oculus exlusives on Vive with a minor amount of tinkering: https://thenextweb.com/basics/2019/01/29/how-to-play-oculus-games-on-your-vive-headset/
That’s a $1k prebuilt laptop totally fine with vr. It’s not even an obscure model or anything, being vr ready is a marketing point for them.
Hm interesting. I bought my headset used, I use these rechargeable batteries. The tracking is not as good as the quest but i guess I got used to it.
Lol the same experience... And you list the lesser mobile versions...
You think zero caliber reloaded, pavlov, and contractors are the same as the pcvr version? BIG lol
Same as most others like greenhell cooking simulator etc...
Onward is a great example, rush to see it for yourself because they are removing v1.7 (the pcvr version that hasnt had an update for 2 years and it still leagues ahead of the current mobile port), thats the posterboy of how crappy questified games are vs the possibilities of pcvr. (Thats why they are removing access to 1.7)
Vader immortal is fun, but its a glorified wave shooter, dont kid yourself
Then there are originally made for smart phone games that got ported to vr like the waranes 1&2... What you didnt know those games where made for smartphones initially? Doesnt surprise me, you are quite missinformed https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.HomeNetGames.Warplanes

They're just talking about an after market headstrap.
Virtual Desktop is just a 3rd party tool for playing PCVR games on your Quest.
The Quest can already do this with AirLink over wifi, but some prefer Virtual Desktop.
That's extremely expensive. Does this work?
That sounds great. Are they kinda like these? Or do you have any links? I'm having some trouble finding them.
I've been using this active link cable into a 3.0 port on my mobo (don't use a front port) and the speed has been just fine. Shouldn't need a usb-c port on your gpu for things to work.
I don't want to be that guy to revive a dead thread, but Valheim has an incredibly well made VR mod. Link to installation instructions here. Just make sure you follow them closely.
Air Link for me was only giving me 300 mbps. When I purchased a USB-C to USB-C cable, I was getting 2.9 gbps. I noticed a huge boost in performance.
Cable I bought: https://www.amazon.com/KRX-Braided-Cellphone-Charging-Transmission/dp/B08YYGWNKS
Hell of a lot cheaper than the Oculus Link Cable.
I bought a Q2 last weekend. The straps that come with the unit are truly awful. I replaced the straps with the Bobvr M2 Pro. It is very comfortable and adjustable, which helps with my eyeglasses.
Been using this for months and love it

KIWI version off amazon
If you want a budget PCVR headset and don't plan to play any Quest exclusive titles, get a used Rift S from eBay. The Rift S is a fantastic headset. It's much more comfortable than the Q2 and you won't have to deal with any compression or latency issues. I attached these to mine.
This one!
I just got it, so can't say about the longevity, but it's pretty good, and was half the price of the Oculus branded one.
You shouldn’t have issues. I run a similar set-up on laptop flawlessly.
Update drivers, verify files, check program updates. Data Cable might be shit aswell.
Uninstall & reinstall Steam & Steam VR.
Is your USB port 3.0?
Link I used for my set-up, ordered two and both work flawlessly.

It seems you've got a some good advice from the other comments but one thing that should be mentioned. Though there are some duds with the valve index and it's controllers, overall if you treat your equipment well it will last. Anything that goes bad will be replaced while warranty lasts and sometimes (though more rare) even after it expires. I've had mine for... 6 months now? Clocked a good chunk of time with it and use it for developing my vr game, no issues thus far. I think though its had its issues, it suffers a lot from the lesser few having the loudest voice. Most people who are happy with their product don't then go online and boast about it, they're happy with their experience and they keep playing.
I think your computer though it's good may want an upgrade in the future (though you can handle alyx as is). Though that's just an educated guess, I'm not too sure how much better your card performs compared to a 1660 super.
One thing that could be an issue for you is the size of your playspace, there are some users with more limited space that have had trouble setting it up (the index).
Badillin mentioned the ipd control on the index, as for the quest 2 it only has three set options for ipd, so if you between or outside of that range you'll struggle to keep a clear image.
Personally I thought the quest 2 was neat and it was a possible option for me, and now I hear a lot about users getting their headsets bricked for no reason. Their game/app libraries getting cleared, their oculus account disappearing, and some other things.
If you have any more specific questions I'd be happy to help. But I'd lean towards the Index personally.
Oh one last thing, people mention the wireless experience and whatnot but if you get a pulley system like the one made by KIWI, you'd pretty much be there just gotta be careful about spinning in one direction too much.
I’m a big fan of Corsair wireless headphones. I’m on my second pair and these Corsair Void wireless RGB headphones are amazing. They frequently beat more expensive headphones in sound quality. I use them mostly for PC VR with my Quest 2. With the stock Quest 2 strap it’s a perfect fit and VR is wonderful with 7.1 virtual surround and Dolby Atmos. Especially Skyrim VR.

For the best experience, I think the standard advice is Virtual Desktop with a strong WiFi 6 signal or a long amplified cable like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Upgraded-KIWI-design-Transfer-Charging/dp/B086HBGNFQ?th=1
I have the same, I wear mine pretty loosely, but it doesn’t seem to help much. I can’t play for more than 2 hours, and by that time I have a pretty serious headache that disappears as soon as I take the headset off.
I’ve heard people have had luck with buying better head straps, cushions, and counter balancing with a power supply strapped to the back.
I have the BoboVR M2 head strap, but I still get the headaches. Maybe counterbalancing would fix this, but I can’t be sure.
Good luck!
I don’t know if this will work, but it exists.

I bought the 2.0 trackers for two specific purposes: dancing in VRChat and combat in Blade & Sorcery. I've been very satisfied by their performance and accuracy. There'll always be moments of janky physics, but I've found the tracking to suit my needs well. I'm sure there are other games that utilize them, it's just not quite as common.
I've been pleased with the Index controllers as well in terms of their functionality. I do have one or two small criticisms. It can be clumsy to find the best hand positioning and while they're not flimsy, they're not robust either. I also HIGHLY recommend you buy a pair of simple, light/medium thickness gloves to wear while you play because even the smallest amount of sweat makes your VR fingers "stick" and ruins their accuracy. These are the gloves I use https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AD10HBC/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o05\_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1
No gaming PC a Q2 is the only affordable way to go.
Just in case: Cheapest setup if you have a decent PC is still getting a mobile VR and riftcat (Riftcat/vridge [15$] can display any 2d game in VR on your mobile device slapped into VR lenses like this one[26$]: mobile VR headset example).
Mobile VR results will depend on phone hardware and playing the 2d one will likely work best with something like an XB controller. Steam copies can be played this way if you already own it too.
You usually wont find straps with a built in battery larger than 5000 capacity except This one that has 8K and looks very compact. But you can also buy a larger battery separately and attach it to a strap that does not have a battery using velcro straps or thick rubber bands. There are some straps that have a battery holder built in like this one but I dont know if its a good quality.
Yes thats the interface I have, I can only vouch that it is is very comfortable and adjustable for many head shapes because of the little wing spacers which help balance the pressure on the face. I use it without the light blocker around the nose so it ventilates better. I am only speaking form personal experience, there may be other interfaces that might be better for you.
When it comes to these things, its all personal preference. What is comfortable to some may not be for others. I actually prefer the original cloth strap but with a 15,000mAh battery attached to the back because I like to lay down on the couch or bed while using the Quest to watch a movie or browse the internet.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find any head strap+battery between 10000 and 15000 mAh on Amazon, the highest I see is 5000 mAh.
Is this the AMVR facial thing you recommended?
As for a fan, maybe I can put one of the room fans on a chair.
Just be sure it's USB 3.0. preferably you want a cable with a 90 degree usb-c connector okay the headset side so it will put less stress as the connector. If you use a regular straight cable, one accidental tug can destroy the USB port.
This cable is cheap and works great. https://www.amazon.com/KRX-Compatible-Charing-Transfer-Headset/dp/B08QCDSSD5/
Alternatively if you have a 5ghz router you can connect to your PC wirelessly as long as the PC is hardwired to the router.
Wired is because it is plugging into the power source. The oculus is a wireles VR headset in the same way your cellphone is a wireless telephone. You have to recharge the battery or accept being limited in mobility. But you can plug an oculus in to keep it charged or get hedset strap or rechargable powerbanks from like amazon. This is the one I use since I have the same problem as you it works very well for me but is abit on the heavy side compared to the superlight one you get that's 80$ usb c only but it's never really bothered me
Lmao I got you bro, but unfortunately small spaces are a killer for this kind of thing, if it's attached to the roof then you need an area as long as the elastic or you will be better off just standing in place.
Use a 1 foot long pigtail to prevent damage to the port and create a quick disconnect.
https://www.amazon.com/LEIRUI-Extension-Charging-Compatible-Thunderbolt/dp/B083BLRPKP
You can also use find them for USB-A. You could secure this the same way and it'll pop apart when tugged, less likely to damage the PC or slam case on the ground and can also preserve your mobo ports.
But if you are tugging it so often that you need to do this, you need a much longer cable.
ok cool. I watch a lot of videos lying down like in a theater or star environment. just looking for other ideas on strap.
I have this as my alternative strap when I want to do that and find it very comfortable that I almost fell asleep once ot twice. lol
Yeah I thought so. I just ordered this because it had good reviews. What’s your thoughts?
The battery will definitely still drain as the headset uses more power than a typical USB port can supply on a PC.
I recommend buying this head strap.
BOBOVR M2 Pro Battery Pack Head Strap for Oculus Quest 2,Magnetic Connection and Lightweight Design, Uninterrupted Power Supply https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09JNR4Y15/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_QZSY6CEY02YVPFFZ5WAF
It accomplishes a couple really important things. First, it makes it so much easier to get the headset on and secured to your face. Second, it is much more comfortable for prolonged play periods. Third, it’s battery back more than doubles the playtime of the Quest 2 and you can buy another battery back to keep charged and hot swap them out on the fly to give yourself never ending battery. They connect with powerful magnets and work amazing.
You can than use Air Link to play your PC games all day long without worrying about battery if you want.
It's not necessary, but I would recommend using one. You can buy Velcro straps made for battery packs. You'll get about 2 hours on the quest 2 battery. And yes you can play while using the cable for as long as you want, but Wireless is the way to go. I use this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08P1N8LDQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
with a 15000mAh USB C Power Bank and I can get about 8 hours.

You'll need a card with a USB-C connection.
You can use 5g wifi, but it's latency isn't fantastic, not just yet.
You'll need an RTX 1070 or newer, and not all cards have a USB-C. Nividia calls it the "VirtualLink."

Rinbow Six Seige Starter seems to be the cheapest game I can see with the 5+5 offer at £6.12 here

Last year, a group of researchers developed an AI framework that aims to make sword fights in VR games more dynamic and life-like. What you see in the video is not a work in progress game, but rather a tech demo. The developers of Touché made their framework publicly available for other developers to use in their games. The code can be found here and more information about how it works here. I just thought I should spread the word, since it doesn't seem to be very well known.
It's about the same price as an average pair of glasses, usually between $60 and $100
I went cheap but more risky with a lens protector. I got them for quest but they likely make them for other headsets. They are $19 now but $15 when I got them. Little silicone rings that go around the lens and keeps your glasses from touching them.

No problem! Here's the cable I bought from Amazon. Much cheaper and works just as well as far as connection and quality. However, this cable won't charge your headset as well as the official cable, or so I've heard. There are probably newer versions on Amazon that do a better job at that, being that I bought this cable right when the Link came out. Granted, I've never played my headset long enough for the battery to run completely dead since the cable does reduce the battery drain a good bit.
https://youtu.be/Csin4g-3OnE That headset(Varjo Aero) combined with the valve index controllers. That would be noticeably better looking, and give you much more comfortable controllers. But it will cost you quite a bit!
I also have a hand disability, I just got the quest 2 a week ago and the controllers are just too small or something because my hands hurt using them. I’m getting hand straps(vr cover makes good ones VR Cover Controller Grips for Meta/Oculus™ Quest 2 (Dark Grey) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08MDV5YPC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MB9HWEKB2H9YWRDHM775) which should help a lot. So you don’t need to keep your hands clenched the whole time.
You should invest in a vr face cover and upgraded strap too which will make it more comfortable as well as help vent it.
If your ipd set correctly? You can move the lenses between the 3 positions to get it more accurately tuned for you.
Will this be able to do pcvr with quest gaming laptop
wasn't expecting a reply to this post 2 years later but lol, try this
Nice try😆
Description from the Amazon
Prank Pack, Pet VR Prank Gift Box, Wrap Your Real Present in a Funny Authentic Prank-O Gag Present Box | Novelty Gifting Box for Pranksters
You can either get a 3rd party link cable for games where you dont move around (eg racing) or use airlink (wireless pcvr).
For the former, Cable Matters is perfect, see below. I got it for racing and its sooo much better than what I was getting with airlink and my regulsr router.
For the latter, you might need certain type of router for it to run smooth, there are tons of posts about it.
Cable Matters Activo Cable USB-C 5m para Gafas Realidad Vritual Oculus Quest 2 (Cable USB-C a USB-C) en Negro - Reemplazo para Cable Oculus Link 5 Metros https://www.amazon.es/dp/B08FVM2WTJ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_G8E830K7N5BKWCA9JFKH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use a combination of this cable and [this](extender) with the Quest 2 and my gaming PC and I get zero lag or stuttered connection.
Use airlink if you can. Also an app if dont have correct rounter. https://sea.pcmag.com/vr/43144/no-cable-play-pc-vr-games-wirelessly-on-oculus-quest-2-with-air-link-upgrade
If not use a usb 3 to usb c port. C port is on all new phones. Get a long cable. https://www.amazon.com/Fasgear-Degree-Designed-Transfer-Charging/dp/B088K1M2YT
I've got the official one but it is extortionate, people say this one is pretty solid

Here's a video that might help you decide as well. (skip to 1 min)
Here is the Link Cable I have: https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Kuject-Transfer-Charging-Chargers/dp/B08MZFS4SY?ref_=ast_slp_dp&th=1
It comes with the USB-C to reg USB adapter -- one of my gaming PCs needs it, the other doesn't. Not all come with USB input. So, be sure to get that! :)
Maybe a Visa, etc, gift card so he can buy some games. There are a lot of things to try without spending money, but still. I like games that don't require too much movement, but he might be able to stomach shooters, etc. So, this way he can explore without breaking the bank.
Something that you may find interesting though, which I only discovered yesterday is this...

I did not look in detail but I believe this effectively allows to ‘rent a VR capable PC in the cloud’ for a reasonable monthly fee. I’m not sure what the latency would be like and what the experience would be like (I guess this depends not only on their infrastructure but their geographic location of servers compared to you. Your best option, is budget is problem, might be to buy a Q2 and play your games with hosting the x64/windows running in the cloud while you save up for a better gaming rig.
Also consider that some of the Q2 NATIVE games like Onward will be something you might really like (given your current top two PC VR games).
Let me see if I can find some videos on this fledgling cloud based VR company.
I've used a 5m 3.0 third party cable and it worked perfectly well, I don't marathon game on the quest anyway so while it didn't charge up the headset, it wasn't a problem. The only downside is sometimes I stepped on the repeater box and it hurt my foot. USB 3.1 has supposedly allowed some people to use a longer cable effectively, but I haven't tested it.
As many others have pointed out, wireless is even better and it's true. However there's a lot of caveats and it took some work and added expense for me. I ended up needing to get a new router before I had enough bandwidth, and your PC will need a wired connection to your router. My existing router actually had a 5ghz connection and was perfectly good for everything else, the problem is I'm in an apartment complex and my network signal is competing with my neighbors. Lots of people on here say you just need a decent router and you're fine, but lots of people live in houses. If you're in a denser area, you may need to get a router that is more powerful. My new one wasn't particularly expensive, didn't need a wifi 6E router or anything, but still needed to upgrade. Just keep that in mind. Also you are streaming video and I've noticed that even at 866 Mbps, I get some artifacting and such when I turn quickly. Not a big deal and worth it to be wireless, but wired is superior on visual quality.
My sisters house has HDMI wall plates in every room and of the closets in the house must have been set up as some sort of media server by the previous owner. The closet has about 10 HDMI jacks, one corresponding to one in a different room. It's a pretty interesting setup. So to answer your question.
Yes it's possible. Use something like this
https://www.half-life.com/en/alyx/vr
Supports roomscale, standing, seated, teleport, shift, continuous (smooth movement).
They also mentioned about a one handed mode for folks with disabilities in their AMA.
Latest IGN video shows both Teleport and Continuous (The player switches half way through).
If you have GeForce Experience installed, it'll let you know if you're VR capable. If you don't have it installed, you can get it here: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/geforce-experience/
Based on what you provided, you have the required specs for VR. Just make sure you have the right plugs in your motherboard/laptop if you're getting the Rift S, which is a DisplayPort 1.2 and a USB 3.0.
You can probably use some screen mirroring software for Android, something like the stuff described in this article.
You'll need to sideload this software using adb or Sidequest, and please note I haven't actually tried this just have used generic Android software on my Quest (particularly old game emulators).
You could also try what I am currently using usb 3 to usb c which for me at least is running Great here’s the Amazon oculus cable
Quest2 is the best value for your money and a great way to dip your toes into VR. It can run games all by itself, or can be connected to PC to run more demanding VR titles - it's the only VR headset at the moment capable of that.
It requires a valid facebook account though - that's a dealbreaker for some people.
As for accessories - a third party strap would help with comfort. Quest2 is front-heavy and puts a lot of pressure on your face making it unbearable after ~20 minutes. This one is generally recommended, although I have no personal experience with it. Avoid official Oculus Elite strap - it's prone to breaking.
If you have a gaming PC/Laptop, and want to play PCVR games, you'll need a USB3 cable (most likely USB A to C). Official Link cable is $80 and hardly worth it, there's $20-30 alternatives on amazon that work just as well.
MSI gaming PLUS (not the MAX one) MSI Performance Gaming AMD Ryzen 1st and 2nd Gen AM4 M.2 USB 3 DDR4 DVI HDMI Micro-ATX Motherboard (B450M Gaming Plus), mATX https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07F7WQDZJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ECQH9J37RDN4ETY29HQN
This is a good option for cheap. Just adds more support to the existing head strap.
Hmm I'll check your suggestion, I was looking at this on Amazon. It's just hard to know the strength without any real datasheet..

Guitar wall hooks or stands are cheap and can also work. I used to have mine hanging on these (one for headset, one for controllers) until I moved it to a bookshelf:

Make sure to wipe your Quest and use a lens cover or drape a large cloth over it, so sweat, dust and sunlight don't get in.
