I am in the same exact boat as you. I weigh 285 lbs and purchased a Wahoo Kickr bike to use in Zwift to lose weight. I started riding on July 5th, at the beginning I couldn't even complete half of the Zwift tutorial route (Watopia flat route) and riding 10 mins continuously was hard and was all I could manage at first. As of last night I managed to ride the Watopia flat route continuously without stopping!
Here are a few pointers.
tell me that is not your only fan. i have this horse in the same position as your fan and i'm still burning on max effort rides
It’s not just the padding a yoga mat isn’t built to withstand the bike shifting and the stand rubbing in it. You’ll fell a lot more stable with a “bike” mat. Also with amazon the cost between a yoga mat and the bike mat won’t be more than ~20$

Idk if I’m allowed to post that but here’s an ok one.
Oh boy, that's a whole lot of math I am not qualified to do, but this might help you: https://www.omnicalculator.com/sports/cycling-breakaway
I will say that you build up a bit of an intuition around this the more you race based on a number of things, and your assessment sounded pretty good in the scenario you shared. Things like your ability, other riders abilities, the course profile all play a part, and you development a bit of sixth sense about all that.
Good work shutting that down. That was a big effort.
> best by shedding some weight,
I used to be like you.
I also struggled with losing weight and cycling, even as my distance and mileage increased while training for a century.
All the guides seemed to either assume you were already lean and had no difficulty controlling your weight "eat lots", or that you were just a casual cyclist and not actually riding long distances.
On a CICO/IIFYM diet, I was always hungry at the end of the day, scouring my food logs for an excuse to justify a snack. Weight loss was negligible. Maybe -10 lbs in 6 months of relative misery.
That all changed when I found The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance. (It's $9 on Amazon) After a few weeks to adapt to the change in diet, I had energy to ride all day without food, and the weight melted away. I was steadily losing 5 lbs per month, and I didn't feel hungry.
High carb diets are dogma in the cycling community, but there is another way. You have some of the markers for metabolic syndrome, so you may also be a good candidate for keto.
There is a Mt. Fuji hill climb event held annually. They don’t do the whole thing but about 1345m of climbing.
Here is a Ride with GPS link: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31400396
And a link to an image of the route: https://www.fujihc.jp/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/coursemap.jpg
The Kanc is longer/less steep than any of the big Zwift climbs -- one direction more constant gradient, the other a longer flatter first half, a plateau, and then a steeper second half. It peaks at ~2800 but one side starts at about 750ft and the other at about 500ft
This is a segment from a ride my club did (although I was running support and haven't actually had a chance to ride the Kanc myself yet, next summer for sure), the first 35 miles are the Kanc eastbound: https://ridewithgps.com/events/160221-ner-600k-and-2x200k-weekend-2021#routes/37408765/preview
Either way is gentler/longer than any Zwift climbs (well, Ventoux is the right distance but much steeper). Though I feel like the Epic KOM feels closest, possibly just because of the scenery?
Also it looks like Fulgaz has the Westbound Kanc traverse: https://fulgaz.com/fulgaz-rides/?fg_ride=a4ca379b02cf8440928cf02e if you want to virtually ride it.

I asked my wife and she looked at her past orders, and that particular one ($25) has been discontinued. It was pretty similar to this one ($40), although I don't have first-hand experience with it: https://www.amazon.com/SuperMats-Equipment-11GS-Treadmills-Ellipticals/dp/B000F6R368/
Since you mentioned you're trying to keep costs down: I've been using Magene Cadence and Speed sensor (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B085Q5C62J ), which is $35 for the pair. I've been happy with them.
On Zwift you only *need* a speed sensor, but I found their cadence was pretty inaccurate (like it would show my cadence as 80 even when I counted 90).
You will need the ANt stick - I don't think the garmin speed/cadence sensors broadcast over anything but ANT. You can pick it up on Amazon. There's the official garmin one which will definitely work, and also the decooler knock-off which is cheaper but IME is a little hit and miss in if it will work or not. I've got two of them and one of them is a total dud. To be on the safe side I'd probably just order the Garmin one, especially since they've reduced the price on it to something more reasonable (it used to be more like $50 - looks like right now it's $36. ant stick
Before winter set in another redditor suggested a TacX Vortex, and suggested I buy from Germany, here: https://www.bike-discount.de/en/buy/tacx-t2180-vortex-virtual-smart-trainer-246764
It was the cheapest I found after looking and although it took some time to get here from germany it arrived just fine.
If you are in the US you will need a plug which can be had on amazon for super cheap: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HYNR022/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_uHlazbTW37BVF
You will also need a ANT+ Dongle if you don't already have one and a trainer tire but sounds like you might be set there from your dumb trainer.
I logged about 700 miles on it over winter and it was great. I headed into this season so much stronger.
You may be having trouble due to the recent Zwift update on December 3rd. I ended up having to re-install Zwift on my Note8/Nvidia Shield to get it working again.
If you need the most recent APK, you can grab it from APKMirror, though if this on your phone then it should have updated automatically.
As for the .obb file, the current .obb (at least from my installation) is named main.30.com.zwift.zwiftgame.obb. Here's a copy I put on Google Drive when I was moving it from my phone to my Shield. Make sure it goes in the Android/obb/com.zwift.zwiftgame directory on your device.
Hopefully you get it working!
> Is it Alps level or more like the Rockies?
Seems pretty close to the highwood pass near Calgary. Especially with the snow.
2 weeks later, and I think I finally have it working. Recording it here in case someone has the same random issue.
This is the only way I can get bluetooth heart rate on Forerunner 245 to work with Zwift on my tablet (Huawei Mediapad M10).
That's what works for me!
Thanks a million for your help u/gaperls

his wattage gives me 30kmh avg. yes he still did 4:30 hours, but not at 40+ pace
> Resolution isn't great since it's a Pixel 4a screen translated to a 24'' monitor
The reason is not that your monitor is bigger than your device screen, but probably the opposite: the resolution of your device screen is bigger than your computer resolution. For example, press Alt+g from the scrcpy window to resize to "pixel-perfect".
https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy/blob/master/FAQ.md#the-quality-is-low
I would suggest a blower fan such as below. You can adjust the height it blows very easily, puts out high volume of air, and is very small and sits on the floor.

i bought a $22 music stand that adjusts pretty high. holds my phone and if necessary my ipad too while i'm zwifting. the music stand can get pretty close to the front wheel without hindering your riding. you can also angle it for however you want to see whatever you need.
like this - music stand
I have a coospo $36 strap from amazon. It works fine. BUT it goes through about a battery every 10 days with regular use. Its voracious. I wouldnt buy it again because of that.
I just learned that there is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lukas.the.coder.heartforbluetooth
did a quick test and despite the "suspicious" look it actually works well!
I've been really happy with a cheap medical table. Get one with the lower supporting beam at an offset to allow the front tire to sit further underneath the table.
I can easily get 2 laptops, keyboard, and a few drinks on the table.
I picked up this mat about 16 months ago and have used it nearly daily since then. I can recommend it if the price fits your budget. There are plenty other ones out there, but I've been happy with it
All pedals use the same standard so any pedal you can find will work. If you want to start with a flat pedal I would recommend starting with something like this that is a flat pedal on one side but SPD clipless on the other because once you start riding regularly clipless pedals and shoes are the first upgrade you'll want to make.
I went with the Lasko U15617 this trainer season, massive game changer in staying cool while churning away indoors compared to regular 3 blade fan. Due to space issues, I've got it on my right side under a desk, blowing air at me. I pretty much stopped having sweat puddles on the floor with it.
And as an bonus, whenever I drop my sweat rag (t-shirt that was wearing before the ride started), it gets blown right back into my hand- no more stopping to pick it up and breaking up an effort.
A laptop cart like this makes a pretty decent keyboard and/or mouse stand that you can place right in front of or next to your bike on trainer. You can optionally leave the gray wrist pads off if they get in the way of your keyboard or mouse.
I mention this because I also use the companion app on my phone but it's also nice to have control of your PC for whatever streaming/etc while you're on the bike.
The “harder s actually better” didn’t pan out for me. I’m happy with the Planet Bike A.R.S. saddle. It’s technically a men’s saddle, but there are quite a few Amazon reviews from women who like it too. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000C17L2W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_i_WuGeGb6MPTYWS
Post ride drinks at your cave!
By the way, If it’s in your budget I would recommend a pedestal stand for your tv that swivels. That way you can orient your tv toward your bike. (Ie swap the existing stand with something like this https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Pedestal-Mount-Swivel-Feature/dp/B07N4GL2LW
There's a fan just beyond my front wheel by a brand called Lasko which had been reviewed as the same efficiency as the Wahoo fan but without the smart features.
I bought a super cheap speed and cadence sensor. Zwift lets me select this trainer so it is able to derive a reasonable power reading based on the speed/cadence and the resistance profile of the trainer. Cheap but effective for me.
Here's a cheap little box that has everything you'll need. I'm actually considering getting one now because it'll be a lot more efficient than running my giant 10-year-old desktop.

What's your budget? Before I switched to a dedicated gaming PC for 4K graphics, I used a 2 year-old laptop with integrated graphics and was able to get 1080p. You'll also need a Garmin ANT+ dongle: https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-USB-Stick-Fitness-Devices/dp/B00CM381SQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=6DWXC5N7XBZM&dchild=1&keywords=garmin+ant%2B+dongle&qid=1606940536&sprefix=Garmin+ANT%2Caps%2C242&sr=8-3

I got this Feedback Sports Sport Mechanic Bicycle Repair Stand on Amazon. It is really nice and stable and I will probably never have to replace it. I had the Tacklife Bicycle Repair Stand but it was really unstable and my bike kept falling over so I returned it.
I bought this trainer for $60 on amazon. Been using it for a year with zero problems on both my road and mountain bikes. I had tested my friends smart trainer at first and realized I did not like the feeling so I bought this on a whim just until I figured out what I really wanted...now I don't really plan to upgrade at this point. Works fine for zwift.

Wife and I both Zwift. I velcroed Apple TVs to the back of 2 27" tv screens and attached them to roller stands (like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CUT5ZZI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1). When wife isn't riding hers, I use the second screen for Netflix. Easy to roll in front of treadmill for running too.
Seconding the fans. I've not purchased the Headwind accessory for my Wahoo Kickr but it's on the wish list. I do have a stick fan sitting at chest height pushing air on me and think at some point I'll ether get the the headwind accessory or put a turbo circular fan on the floor, pointing up, to help push more wind... The amount of sweat on the mat at the end of an hour session is pretty amazing...
I would recommend a 34/11 cassette for the widest possible gear ratios with your front chainring, if your bike can handle it with it's current setup. Since you didn't list your current bike's specs it's hard to suggest which cassette.
I'd also suggest a bike trainer mat for under the bike to make sweat cleanup a little easier and to keep it from soaking into your carpet or getting into your hardwood floors. Even if you're planning on training on concrete in the garage it's not a bad idea.
you may want a training table to set your laptop or tablet on. If you're planning to use a TV then you can likely skip it but they're good to have if you aren't. I bought this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BQZY9RL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (not an affiliate link).
Hope you find this a bit useful.
I have a remote control to switch on / off the fan. If you have multiple fans, you can have a remote to control each of their outlets, so you can have one fan on if you're starting up, and 3 of them when you go full throttle :)
I have my trainer setup downstairs near a TV with an appleTV and its great. Mine is a AppleTV 4k but I got the 4k model since its with a 4k Tv, I imagine the previous gen would be great for a zwift module.
Only downside would be all equipment needs to have BLE or you need a CABLE. Even if everything is BLE you can only connect to 2 BLE devices at a time.
You need a special tire for use on trainers, ie this one. The tread on your regular road tire won't last at all.
Most people that use roller style wind trainers use a special tire at the very least, and many use a dedicated wheel and cassette as well.
You are finding out the hard way that the cheaper kind of trainers are not as cheap as you thought. You'll be spending another $100-200 to make it all work right, and then those "direct" trainers don't look as expensive.
This would be an example of "not the same cogs" (11-28 vs 11-32).
The reason why is that your chain will almost certainly want to be a different length to support a 32-tooth cog vs a 28-tooth cog.
So, if you don't change the chain length, you'll have sub-par shifting on one or the other cassette. It may be tolerable or it may cause chain drops or other bad shifting.
What you really want is an 11-32 105 to match your Ultegra. Like this one.
Yep. I got the cheap one linked below from amazon after getting tired of connection issues and dropouts with bluetooth. Haven't had a single issue since.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M3VQP6Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've had this one for two years now and I love it. Works well, it's comfortable, reliable... Works with Bluetooth and Ant+. Can't go wrong.
Highly recommend getting a little clip-on fan, like this one: https://www.amazon.com/BESKAR-Rotation-Stroller-Portable-Personal/dp/B089Q279R3/ Sure, it will pale in comparison to whatever fan setup you've got going at home, but I can say from experience that it will help, and you'll probably be surprised at how much air it can push!
I get it, but honestly the ATV just works, no muss, no fuss with dongles or bluetooth issue. I run Zwift on my TV and Zwift Companion on my iPhone and rarely have any connection issues. If I do, I just restart the ATV.
One other thing to consider - if you are like me - sweat gets on everything when I ride and I can't imagine that would be good for a laptop. Granted, I do use my phone with Zwift companion while riding, but that is easier to keep dry. I do use a RAD desk that is perfect for Zwift. It is a Wahoo desk copy but less $$ Currently $92 on Amazon
Ride on!
There is an older version from the same brand that costs a bit less, but this is the one I have. I've used it for about a year - the first nine months of that running on Zwift, then switching over to cycling in the last three months. I've worn it comfortably in several positions on my arm and haven't noticed a difference in how it performed. The only issue I've experienced is occasional cadence lock when running but that can happen with any wrist HRMs and should not be an issue at all for cycling.
Ah the fan i have moves tons of air i will stick with that. The one I have was off amazon it was like 13 bucks rockbros
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H6RN0AQ/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Do NOT waste hard earned money on expensive fans. Get a mid range fan with adjustable direction (up/down) and plug it into a key fob controlled remote outlet. If you're in the US, check out this Lasko fan. I rarely use it on higher than level 1 speed except if I'm going very hard for awhile. Amazon link to Lasko fan. If you find you're still too warm, get another of the same sort for behind you. When you have a fan set up in front, only the font half of your body is getting significant airflow.
If you've literally got money to burn, go ahead and get a Dyson or Wahoo.
I've found this kind of fan very effective: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081HDXB41
The remote control is useful so you can turn it on after you've warmed up, without having to stop your workout and get off the bike.
The Dyson fan ($360) seems like an overpriced gimmick.
Cancel the Wahoo desk and get the cheaper one off Amazon. It's the same thing, but more functional because it has water bottle slots in it. The Wahoo desk doesn't for some stupid reason.
https://www.amazon.ca/RAD-Cycle-Products-Desk-Portable/dp/B07BQZY9RL/
I like your Nanoleaf setup. I'm a super early adopter of theirs. I have a 28 panel setup of the original triangles (pre-shapes) in my office.
The standard KOM Cycling one; although... I didn't pay that much, seems the price has gone up!
Haven't had issues with it all year though, has been great!
I love this thing, and was super happy the moment it arrived as well; all set up and ready to use, literally the hardest part was getting my KickrBike on top of the thing! Then just shoved the little robber balls in their pockets, inflated them just a little bit, and honestly haven't had a single issue with the thing since it was set up near the start of this year. (other than wiping it down from the sweat of course).
And just used some long hook and loop strapping to strap the thing down, not a single one has come loose either
https://www.amazon.com/Rocker-KOM-Cycling-Indoor-Training/dp/B08CJYRVT3
Apparently you need a 1.8mm spacer. Just like any other bicycling-related accessory, you can buy it from Amazon or bicycle retailers:
https://www.amazon.com/Juscycling-Flywheel-Cassette-Bicycle-Various/dp/B081K7Y37P
This is the answer here. I bought spacers and altogether needed 4.5mm thickness. I did this to install a 7-speed cassette to match that on my mountain bike. You have to grind two spots on the spacer to allow for the cassette to be flush with the hub because of the rivets that sit proud to the surface on the cassette. That was a quick job using a grinder but you could use a file to do the same. I bought these spacers, was the cheapest I could find:
The Saris M2 is $220 right now on amazon. It has built in power/cadence/speed monitor. I got it on sale for like $250 so that's a REALLY good deal!
Some cons would be that its loud. It sounds like a very loud industrial fan... also tire wear, you'll have to replace your tire more often or buy a trainer only tire (supposed to be less noise\less vibration but I couldn't tell).
In my experience, the biggest reason people under perform on a trainer is lack of air flow.
I recommend a large industrial type of fan positioned just in front of you at ground level, blowing upwards at a slight angle to hit your body and your head. If that isn't enough, another fan behind you or in the same position on the other side (blowing up at an angle) would be my next step.
This is the main fan I use and have another smaller fan blowing from the rear.
Side note: A remote is really nice to have with a powerful fan as you can warm up a bit before turning it on. Nothing worse than getting onto the bike cold with a fan blowing full blast at you.
I actually just bought this seat got in c19 and carved (with hole).
The C19 is best for sitting almost completely upright which is what I do when doing lone Z2. I figure if it works for that I can get through a more aggressive position during shorter training. Also the sit bones should become less of an issue with total time in the saddle.
Of course.
I have a kickr snap and had to buy a special skewer with tapered ends. Below is a link to the one I got for my Giant Defy adv 2. You’ll have to measure and get one specific for your bike. Your local bike shop may be able to help you find the right skewer as well.

Update. I purchased this saddle. I'd say the return policy of saddles made it an easier choice than buying bibs that are non-returnable. That and Amazon having free returns until 1/31/23 so I can really know it's the right fit for me.
Saddle is a carved Brooks England Cambium All Weather Bike Seat
I bought it in C19 which seems very straight up, but that's how I do all my Z2 rides so hopefully it's good. I may end up changing to C17 if this seat is too uncomfortable during ordinary races or if I upgrade to a road bike with drop position at some point.

This is not that expensive! Nice thanks!
It is lower than you think. I have this stand: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QYLSWCK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I tweaked this setup a few times before I got it right. Always going lower though, you don't want to have to look up.
where did you made that research? There is big difference if you are couch patatoe going into recreational exercise to increase overall health (think something like collecting 10k steps on your apple watch), or you are amateur training to compete.
what you describe sounds a lot like first one, because in all the books, and the guidance I have received from professional trainers and sports doctors, for training about 5 hours STRUCTURED training is considered bare minimum to maintain current fitness level. anything less is basically detraining. to see good improvement, you have to train for 10+ hours, but this number needs to be increased gradually over many weeks otherwise you will just burn out.
there are hacks like https://www.amazon.com/Time-Crunched-Cyclist-2nd-Ed-Powerful/dp/193403083X but that is not long term strategy and after some time you have to revert back to more traditional training doing 2+ hour z2 rides.
I went with a Mac Mini and large screen TV on a height-adjustable stand so I can move between multiple setups. I recently added a Stream deck (mounted on my handlebars) to the setup. You can search for info on it - it works great versus using a wireless kb once your ride is underway (doesn't replace a kb but i like using the buttons better once riding). The stand I used is below: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RPP3262/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

i actually use two. one in front of the other. one pointed at torso, the other at my face. its like riding into a hurricane
You need to have the cooling over your whole body, not just your face. You can try putting your current fan on the floor next to your front wheel and angle it so it hits all of you, but you should look into a bigger (12+ inch) fan (for example).
I wear shoes, socks, bibs, jersey, and a cap. The addition of the jersey and cap means I'm not one of those Zwifters that seem to have issues with corroding bike parts.
Your "symptoms" could just be exertion related, as indoors is different than outdoors for riding. Have you done lots of hard interval training outside before? Have you had issues with exercise-induced asthma before? Obvious disclaimer that for respiratory-related physical issues, call a medical professional, not a bunch of random reddit bicycle people.
For me, a fan, bibs, superlight base layer, and a skullcap. The skullcap actually traps a ton of sweat and keeps it out of my eyes. Something like this:
https://www.amazon.com/Castelli-Mens-Summer-Skullcap-Hat/dp/B01ERRHI10
The fact that you’re seeing the bike at all as a device suggests you’ve got the appropriate ANT+ libraries installed on your phone but verify you have “ANT+ Plugin Service” and “ANT+ Radio Service” installed. (app list, “display system apps”). You can also try the ANT+ tester: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.quantrity.anttester
It is unlikely Zwift will accept data from a “Matrix” bike - I would bet money Matrix isn’t following standard ANT+FEC protocols. Their rower is described as “hot garbage”: https://www.reddit.com/r/Rowing/comments/ib23tz/the_matrix_rower_rower02_is_hot_garbage/

Can you control the fan speed mid ride? I was considering one of those but opted for the Lasco Fan with Remote so I could ramp up the fan as I'm riding. It's been a bit disappointing with airflow though. Have considered a Wahoo headwind that will adjust automatically but not sure I'm ready to justify the cost..
You can never really have enough fans, even the best ones don’t compare to riding outside at 15-20mph.
I use one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vacmaster-Cooling-Powerful-3-Speed-Efficient/dp/B082FGRX6B
It’s way better than any normal rotating fan I’ve used. They have a remote control version available too. I suggest starting with one of them and seeing how you get on. If you have a smaller one already, use that too and point it at your head, I’ve found even a small amount of wind in your head helps mentally.
I got this, no complaints just make sure you know what a cadence sensor will do and won't do for you in Zwift
You need something that monitors power
I've been using this for a couple of years now and feel it is really great for my "Zwift station". Since I have 2 trainer setups, this lets me share the screen and computer running Zwift between them and since it is height-adjustable, you can optimize height to match the setup (have a pursuit bike setup on one of trainers that is lower in terms of where you head is/where you're looking versus riding on a regular bike setup).

I use one of these and have no problem with an 85F garage.
I built a basic wood stand with one of these on top. I made it so that the stand has a narrow point at the bottom that can pivot on the floor. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B000QJC5F8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Your FTP is the point, where lactate production and lactate clearance is equal. You can keep up this state for longer period of time until the mitochondria exhausted (or your brain gives up on you because can't stand the feeling anymore),and that happens somewhere between 40-70 minutes( so FTP IS NOT equal your60 minutes power, but your time to exhaustion (TTE) until you can keep up the lactate production and clearance on same level). To increase FTP,you have to increase mitochondria counts (LSD training) or mitochondria size (Sweet Spot training) or both. With increased mitochondria counts /size they can process more lactate which means higher lactate clearance, which means you can push higher wattage. Keep in mind that LSD training is best when you are not doing Z2 power 100% of the time, but mix up tge Z2 with VERY high intensity short workouts (80/20 principle applies, where you ride Z2 for 80% of the time, and 20% above treshold (supra FTP and VO2MAX) which is very uncomfortable. Also both with LSD and SST your mitochondria count and size will increase, but the proportion differs between the methods. It is not possible to give an estimated increase for the next half year, because of different reasons. I'd advise to start a training plan, and after a few weeks do a check up,how does it make you feel. Also, every 6 weeks of training should be followed up with a Ramp /MAP/ step test (these are the ones you have described). Do not be afraid to switch plans if you find one uncomfortable, and don't do a plan what you don't trust. According to Joel Friel (The cyclists training bible) training plans are like religious activity. You put your faith upfront into the plan, and you can check afterwards if it was successful.
Update after doing D1/W1 of the FTP Builder Workout (for some reason the workout order is inverse compared to the other menu?) using my cadence sensor for my crank:
Far better results and quick reactions to change in cadence here. Not sure if the Wattage is somewhat broken as well, as the Flow Smart didn't output 100W when asked to.
I had to shift up one gear on my casette but other than that it appeared to be working much better than compared to the built-in cadence readings of the Flow Smart (which btw. already behaved weird in the sensors menu).
Also behaved like that in the Ramp-Test before.. i do remember some reviewers saying that you tend to have to shift gears with this trainer even when in erg mode, so i don't mind as long as i'm able to hit the required wattage.. anyone else with experience here?

As for anyone else intrested: I'm using Magene S3+ Speed/Cadence sensor combo which came cheap on amazon.
just on-off remote for outlets - something like this:

there are outlets with remote on amazon. e.g. https://www.amazon.com/DEWENWILS-Electrical-Wireless-Expandable-HRS10XB/dp/B07D2BY7VY/ref=sr_1_6?crid=3R4TQDCLLXZWU&keywords=outlet+remote&qid=1659554066&sprefix=outlet+remote%2Caps%2C170&sr=8-6
this is only example, have no idea if it won't burn down your house
I use a microphone stand along with this mount. I think it works great. Very easy to adjust and remove/insert iPad with 1 hand tightened knob.
Shoes are personal.
As are cleats. I use shimano spd cleats which are a little more broad, on fizik shoes. I'm larger, and heavier than the average cyclist.
I love the fizik shoes, but always look for the expensive ones on sale./ Cos Kangaroo leather is fantastic. If you can't find kangaroo, they have plenty of other models, but trying them on is the best thing.

Have you worked out if its the shoes or the cleats you are uncomfortable with?

As an aside, I know you said you didn't want to spend a lot, but shoes and seat are real important if you ride much
The kickr is adjustable so you can keep your wheel on the floor. The kickr CORE is not and is one of the few reasons to get a kickr instead of a core if you're not using a bike with 700C wheels. So if you have a core, just find a wheel block (Tacx sells one, like so:)
As for resistance you're spinning out because your MTB is geared to low to emulate a road bike. I don't think increasing trainer difficulty will help with that on flat roads.
so I actually have a setup like this but went with 2 stands so I could independently move them around. One is setup for Zwifting (so Mac Mini on the shelf) and one is setup for TV (so AppleTV, Shield for GCN). The one for Zwift is shared between 2 trainer setups (Kickr Bike and modified Kickr fixed gear pursuit bike setup). I've been very happy with this since it's pretty flexible and just move stuff around as needed for the session. I'm using this stand: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RPP3262/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I"m going to try the 1.85mm metal spacer and see if that solves the issue.'
FWIW, there are sets of spacers on amazon with different widths that might solve it for you too: https://www.amazon.com/VGEBY-Included-Bicycle-Flywheel-Cycling/dp/B07SKGK4PS
I use this one with my road bike. Works well, though the support post in the center means you do need to position the desk a little more carefully than if it had side supports.
Not natively. It would need to broadcast HR over bluetooth or ANT and I don't think any Android Wear watches do that.
You can see if https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bipr.bike.hr2vpwatch is compatible with it though.
Lasko 4-speed fan with remote control. I got mine at Target; but here’s the Amazon link
I've been checking around and Garmin looks quite nice, I was also checking the Fenix 7 and it could be also an option...
But how about the Huawei GT 3 Pro? I check online and couldn't find any reviews from the 3 sources you mentioned, just DC speaking about the press conference claiming that is as good as the apple watch.
The main thing that makes me think about it is the price: https://www.amazon.co.uk/HUAWEI-Smartwatch-Monitoring-Personal-Accurate/dp/B09JWR1SJ2
I guess I won't be able to connect this one to Zwift though, but not sure if it's really needed if I'm gonna be using something like Stava?
As a regular racer, I would kindly and selfishly ask that you not try to enter competitive races using a dumb trainer. If your trainer estimates high, it really throws the dynamics of a race into chaos, and if you also don't have HR, people will be angry when this happens
That said, you absolutely can race -- have fun!
For a cheap HRM option, I've been perfectly satisfied with Coospo -- it's been just as reliable as our more expensive Garmin & Polar HRMs.
When my Tickr strap failed, I got one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Heart-Rate-Monitor-Replacement-Strap/dp/B085DBKLSQ/
It has been solid ever since. Cheap and quick fix — and if it doesn't solve your issue, you have a backup for when your Tickr's strap inevitably fails.
I’m 6’4” and 180lb. I’m not chaffing or anything like that. Using this seat Wittkop Bike Seat [Trekking]... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0845PGYYZ I didn’t take any stand up breaks that session so maybe too much pressure on the same area too long.
These chamois shorts are fantastic for indoor and outdoor:

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0997ZDN2Y/
Fit is similar to a "compression" short - if you wear a small, unpadded short and a medium compression bottom is tight on you, order the above in medium. Use that as a guide as the sizing chart is oddly designed and would suggest the wrong size.
A strong fan is all that is needed. Gym towel, shirt and short deliver just as effective workout as outdoor cycling clothing.
