Alright guys, I'm sorry, but it's time to SMAAAASH!! your dreams apart, piece by piece in a methodical and reasonable manner.
First off, let me preface this by saying this isn't just a "oh guys this is obvious fake stop hoping losers lol" post, but rather a methodical breaking down of why this is kinda dumb. I stared at this "leak" for a while, and compared it to the actual website that this was supposed to be from.
First off, let's talk about what OP said regarding the leak. It's supposed to be from zinio.com, which exists, and is an incredibly popular magazine website (from what I found on the internet at least), so that much stands. It does carry Game Informer, which is also kind of important. However, now we begin dethroning this usurper of a leak.
This is what one of their pages for purchasing a magazine looks like. The similarities are... well... non existant. As you can see, they charge $5 for one issue, and $20 for a 12 month subscription. The price on here shows a $15 price tag for one issue, but this could just be a mistake, as it is, infact, a "leak". That's not really the biggest issue anyways with this. All of the formatting is way off, in the example I posted there isn't even a "Order now at Amazon" button! There's an add to cart one, sure, but not an amazon button. We're just getting started.
They never list a description for the issue. It's for the magazine as a series, but not for the individual. Besides that, it's in the wrong place regardless. Posting something early isn't an excuse for a total formatting overhaul. No matter how badly you want this, and trust me I understand, you can't argue that.
There's obviously some smaller things I haven't mentioned, but really guys. It's just a shame that people still waste their time making things like this to send a whole community up in arms.
There’s a website that allows you to create animated Earthbound text boxes. I used that, then I combined the results using the Ezgif Gif Maker
>And why is he comparing Earthbound to South Park: The Stick of Truth in the first place?
Trey Parker has cited EarthBound as an influence, so that comparison isn't entirely unwarranted:
>While Skyrim served as the inspiration for The Stick of Truth, the finished game was also heavily influenced by Earthbound, a role-playing game released in North America in 1995 by Nintendo. In that game, the player took control of Ness, a 13-year-old boy who goes on an adventure with his dog and fights creatures like snakes and crows with a baseball bat and a yo-yo.
>“I loved the realness of it,” Mr. Parker said. “You’re just in a home, and you go outside, and the first thing you fight is a cricket or something. You start from a real place.” (source)
You're totally right in your other criticisms, though. Shoehorning Undertale into the video left an especially bad taste in my mouth.
Cool stuff dog, if anyone has an android device its possible to get this kind of thing as a live wallpaper:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.georgewhiteside.android.abstractart
It's a great app as it lets you choose whichever battle background you want and even lets you cycle through them by tapping the screen, been using it for a while & just thought I'd let people know as its pretty cool :)
Download Coilsnake. They have a nice tutorial written out on how to use it, I'd suggest reading that to learn the basics of how the program works.
After you decompile the game's ROM, you'll want to edit the sprites for the roaches in the "BattleSprites" folder. I'd recommend using GraphicsGale. Then you'll want to edit "enemy_configuration_table.yml" with a text editor in order to change the names of the enemies.
Hope this helps!
It's a new RPG made by Toby Fox, the creator of probably the most well known Earthbound hack, the Halloween Hack. He is also one of the composers for Homestuck. The music is REALLY GOOD!
It's definitely Earthbound "inspired", but there are barely any direct references in the game. It captures the spirit of the Mother series though, with quirky and clever humor, fun characters, and memorable boss fights. It's also pretty unique, in that you can go through the game without ever killing a single thing.
If you haven't seen anything of it yet, DEAR GOD PLAY IT, it's so easy to get spoiled, and some of the shit the game pulls is downright brilliant. There's even a demo on the website!
These backgrounds are from an app called Abstract Art, which to my knowledge, is only avaible on the Play Store. It has most, if not all of EB's battle backgrounds. You can swap between backgrounds by double tapping a blank spot on your screen. Link for those interested: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.georgewhiteside.android.abstractart
Although the game was previously mentionned, the game is only available on windows, however, the awesome people that are working on EasyRPG have made it possible to play this game on your android phone (It should be noted that some bugs may occur, when I did my run on that, buffs wouldn't apply mid fight, background animations wouldn't play and some damage outputs wouldn't work properly, but these seem fixed now)
If on iPhone, follow /u/nathanguia03 's guide.
If on Android, this has all the Earthbound battle backgrounds available as live wallpapers: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.georgewhiteside.android.abstractart
Love the Earthbound part but don't like the sans serif (Arial) that you used at the bottom (to be specific, it's the fact that it's a grotesque style typeface.) It would be sweet to have the Earthbound font modernized instead but try Dosis as your font, I think it's fairly close to a non pixelized version of the Earthbound font. If you do update it, please show us the new version!!
Hey, I know this is directed at OP but here's a link to a gba fan translation cartridge on Amazon. I've purchased one of these last year and I've ran through the game once or twice using this copy.
I suspect that OP is using a similar cartridge.
Hope this helps!
Yeah, just grab an emulator and the translated rom.
RetroArch has a good GBA core, but if you don't want to deal with that there are plenty of stand-alone emulators as well, such as My Boy!.
I can't pass up an opportunity to recommend Space Funeral. If you liked the parts of the Mother games like Moonside, Ness's dream, or other trippy stuff, this game is great. It's free, has a wonderful soundtrack (not composed by the game's creator, but using obscure or public domain stuff), a quirky sense of humor, a main character with a striped shirt, and much more.
It's also incredibly easy and short, so it's not a huge investment of time. You could easily finish it up in an afternoon.
Correct label: http://www.mobygames.com/game/mother-3/cover-art/gameCoverId,95183/platform,12/
I would also double-check where it's shipping from (avoid countries known for bootlegs), also where they're willing to ship to, shipping cost, and whether you want package tracking or not.
You can expect to pay $40-$70 on ebay for a JAP Mother 3 loose cart. Box will cost you more.
Not true. The current version of gba4ios uses a loophole in enterprise iOS development to allow non-jailbroken users to install. You have to do a little song and dance with the date, but it takes two minutes and works like a charm.
If anyone is interested in playing the SPC files and has a Android, I really recommend ZX Tune.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.zxtune
It can also play the game files to Mother (NSF) and Mother 3 (GSF).
Yes! Amazon link for reference:
That's a super high price though, I think I paid about 1500 yen when I lived in Japan.
I literally went to amazon and looked up red and blue cap
-The soundtrack for the 'Hackers' (film) has some Mother vibe to it, especially a track named Diskette thanks to a particular instrument/effect.
-The two volumes for 'EasyUSSR' by the Vyacheslav Mescherin Orchestra also present the musicality and diversity to fit the criteria. Some of my favorites are Night Melody, Popcorn and Persistent Robot.
-Yellow Magic Orchestra has a lot of very interesting oriental-influenced songs and I really like Firecracker & Tong Poo.
-Of course, The Beatles. The more surreal ones, like Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds and Strawberry Fields Forever come to mind.
-I should also name other groups like Eels with Last Stop: This Town, Ween with Pink Eye, Yazoo with Only You, The Beach Boys with Do You Like Worms and The Rolling Stones with Ruby Tuesday. Some of those have been used in fangames and fit in perfectly.
-And don't forget to check more of the work of Keiichi Suzuki and the other composers for the series, they are probably the closest possible to the style. Might also check their recommendations, which I only recently found, <strong>>here<</strong>.
In general, you'll find a lot of the same on 70s-90s music, synth-pop and even some early, experimental electronic.
Well, that was a rather long list, and I could keep going ad infinitum. I'm pretty sure you won't find everything on Spotify, but sharing is good nonetheless.
I am about to start playing it, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
(I am also a translator so I truly appreciate your effort)
by the way I got this already compiled at CDRomance, because I am using Linux and I cannot compile here, every compiler is for Windows...
As in how i managed to play it on my ipad? I basically used this as a step by step guideline.
Well if you've got the ROM ready to play on your computer, hop over to i-funbox to get access to the file structure on your phone and drop your patched ROM into whatever folder your emulator is pointed to.
You can purchase codes for eshop downloads on Amazon, however I can only find earthbound. If he prefers to use the 3DS version make sure he has the New 3ds as that is the only model it works on. If he wants to play mother 1 first because it’ll be his first in the series, I recommend he play earthbound first as it is easier to get into. Mother 1 is more so to be played after to appreciate the series. He can play EB with no knowledge of the series and still understand everything perfectly

Are you on Android or IPhone? I think it's native to IPhone, on Android you'll probably need an app like GIF Live Wallpaper, as long as your phone has live wallpapers you can use this app.
Just in case you or anyone reading this didn't know, there is a way to get EarthBound battle animations on your Android device today.
Edit: This app is no longer supported and fails to run.
Hey dude, just wanted to come here & sing your praise a bit. Recently I almost bricked my phone & have been using Abstract Art since it's release (paid for it, because, man he deserves it), & upon setting it up fresh, could not find this app anywhere but sketchy looking APK sites.
I found this post, but was confused, because you said to refer to another comment of yours for upload link. Well, I had to go to your profile & go back 7 months to find the actual comment ( it's there, but it's not currently in this thread, I'm not sure what happened )
Anyway, after successful download & transfer to phone I ran into another issue someone else had while trying to track this app down - the live wallpaper was not showing up in whatever the standard "wallpaper" app your phone runs, this was my case as well. When upgrading from last phone, I also had this trouble & found an app that actually worked among ~10 others that did nada. Went into google play history, found it, installed, & it works like a charm !
So again, a big THANK YOU, for uploading a working version, I was very upset thinking I wouldn't have this wallpaper. It's been my background for years & years, wouldn't feel the same without.
That random app if anyone needs, works as of 9/26/22.
No worries, check this out for a workaround: https://www.xda-developers.com/download-google-pixel-3-live-wallpapers-port/
Try grabbing the Google Wallpapers app too:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.wallpaper
Anyone that comes across this post, that also already has the 'Abstract Art' live wallpaper app installed on their phone from the Google Play Store: please post the file hash from your extracted APK to validate the linked version:
1) Install APK Extractor and Hash Droid
2) Select 'Abstract Art' in APK Extractor app, extract to SD card
3) Hash Droid > Hash file > SHA-256 > open extracted APK file > Calculate
The hash should match this SHA-256 hash for the linked APK file:
C8031CBAF85F8B83FDF699B0FAE2C833DF6125E9F3B8B2C24BDD9DDD8EEDB97E
I will at the weekend but I’m now away for a few days.
I use HP instant ink on my printer so it was pretty cheap to print.
I essentially used the default options on Adobe Reader when selecting booklet printing. I used this Avery paper slicer:
Avery A3 A3CT Compact Trimmer Paper Cutter, Black and Teal https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B000I2GSU6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_F1F4N4KYF0WPP0CZ31F4
If Reddit doesn't show the massively full-size 6285x4620 image, it is available at https://www.deviantart.com/jaedger
I intentionally made the image quite large.
So please take a moment to view full size, zoom-in, and check out the detail.
Final line-art was done in Adobe Illustrator, then colored, shaded, etc. in Adobe Photoshop.
This was my first attempt at using Photoshop gradients to shade.
Constructive critiques are welcomed.
I don't know if I'm allowed to post this, but here: https://mega.nz/#F!k1JRXRwT!sQlbuzGosUJfBF9oN1_mrg
This has all the music from Mother 3 without the fuzzyness of GBA. Problem is that it the music has some problems with some noises being too loud or the wavy parts of songs being weird. The Untagged folder has all the sound effects in the game. There are over 1200 of them.
There's an excellent fan translation made by Tomato. If you want to emulate it, just Google "Mother 3 GBA ROM" and click the first result. (I would highly recommend (this emulator)[https://mgba.io). You could also purchase a repro cart of the English translation if you want to play on genuine hardware. They're pretty cheap and easy to find.
if you want i got them all The CD's And The In-Game-Music in my onedrive https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=3a08e1381868cc19&id=3A08E1381868CC19%21224&ithint=folder,&authkey=!APmJnSpkakbdeAA
Emulated Mother 3 is pretty weird when it comes to combos. On most emulators (VBA for example) the combos are messed up and hard to do. But on VBA-M and PSP emulator gPSP it works just fine (at least for me).
Though i have managed to make the combo issue on normal VBA less annoying by turning ON "use old synchronization" and "low pass filter" in the Sound options.
I haven't used one myself but I can imagine you can find one somewhere for pretty cheap. Just make sure it's compatible.
This one is advertised to work properly but it looks needlessly expensive if it's just the SD card so idk.
What kind of Android do you have? I have a 480x800 and a 720x1280 template located here:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/7cf9r1xg976z9ko/Mother-GalaxyS.psd https://www.dropbox.com/s/ae0perpjr6btf1n/mother_3_gnex.psd
Android user here, yeah, it's easy, here's a download for Snes9x
On the iOS side, I believe Eclipse works well with SNES games
I think this is where I got it without needing the Japanese version. Pay in mind this is only version 1.q so you MIGHT experience issues but it isn't likely. Also that neat patch I mentioned can't be added to this as far as I'm aware https://www.downloadroms.io/gameboy-advance-rom-mother-3-eng-translation-11/
The visual boy advance emulator works with it. If you have a homebrew channel you can even use the visual boy advance to play it on you wii with a gamecube controller!
Your problem is that it's VisualBoyAdvance.
VisualBoyAdvance is horribly outdated and inaccurate. The last stable release was sixteen years ago. VBA-M and VBA-Next are slightly better.
For your own sake, use mGBA. It'll both fix your saving problem and solve the syphilis you will likely contract from using VBA.
Just use mGBA (https://mgba.io/). Or alternatively, Retroarch which is like a big bundle of emulators (including mGBA) Perfectly safe, works great, available for every platform you could want it on.
Online emulator sites are super sketchy and often filled to the brim with malware and intrusive ads. If you feel bad about pirating a game, you should feel even worse about some unrelated party making ad money off of it.
Good question.
I remember using VBA-M when I was using OS X, but that was a while ago. There should be a Retroarch build. I also stumbled onto OpenEmu, but I can't say how well it works.
I don’t, sorry! I learn the songs I do by ear but I might start tabbing these out on a Patreon at some point.
Edit: in the meantime, this tab is pretty close to what I do with the chords - which was the hardest part to figure out!
I got that as plain text from the website and apparenly https://www.desmos.com/calculator cannot grasp the true form of Giygas' attack.
Edit: I straight up googled that and google cannot grasp it either.
Scratch is a great way to start learning code. Then after playing around with that for a while and you think you're ready to actually start learning, find a language and head to Code Academy Completely free.
Picked up one of the other themed covers from Amazon . A bit cheaper than shipping from Japan if in US.
Worth keeping an eye out, but they sell out pretty quickly each year.
The links above are Earthbound battle background live wallpaper apps, looking for help regarding one of apps which has disappeared from the web...did the link direct you elsewhere?

Here’s the link to the Japanese Amazon listing if you are interested. I think it’s around $24 but I could be wrong? Please correct me if I am.
This is all super exciting but the best thing so far is Claus on a skateboard.

We have a soft release for the product going
It's a CR2032 battery, and you'll need one of these drivers. You could probably get a friend to do it or go to a local PC repair or circuit board repair shop and get it done for next to nothing.
I had to do some convincing to get him to tap it with a soldering iron, since it's a battery, but someone at a local shop did mine for me for free.
https://www.amazon.com/Takara-Tomy-EarthBound-Stand-Figure/dp/B00OJYSE1A they are super expensive now. I bought the full set 2 years ago for 40$ when they just came out. They were quarter machine toys in Japan and had a very limited run, so the price has skyrocketed.
The lyrical album is the "Mother" soundtrack album. IIRC it was re-released on vinyl last year, additionally many CD copies should be available on Amazon. This should be it
Specifically (if anybody else is curious), these have flexible covers so should fit in nicely: http://www.amazon.com/MUJI-Notebook-6mm-Ruled-30sheets/dp/B00IQV3MZK
Any A6 book with a thin enough cover should be able to go in, though :)
You mean like this?
Yeah, I hate when developers do that...
This one works perfectly on modern phones, and is still being updated.
