they messed up the play store URL in the article, here is the correct one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bethsoft.theelderscrollslegends
edit: as i wrote in the title, this app was made for TABLETS. you won't be able to download this with your smartphone. smartphone apps will come "early summer" ;)
When cards go bad](https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/when-cards-go-bad-2002-01-28) by Mark Rosewater from 2002 should be required reading.
I will post the summary at the bottom of the article that he wrote here but i strongly encourage anyone who asks this question to give the article a full read. His first point relates to there always being a power raking of cards and a limited number of which that see play at the highest level despite the size of the card pool.
That in a mutant-sized nutshell is why we make “bad cards." To recap (or to fill in for those unwilling to read the long version):
The problem is just simply deeper than that though.
In traditional card games bad cards are helpful for sealed/draft formats like the Arena to help create a particular type of power level & make drafts more interesting. They are basically a necessity to making drafts & games more interesting.
Nerfing cards can make cards that are currently "bad" actually good because the "bad" cards aren't being oppressed by the minority of cards that are too strong. In a sense, nerfing the minority of oppressive "auto include cards" is actually one of the biggest buffs you could give to every other card in existence.
There's also a lot of great arguments about bad cards that you can read here from the developers of the Magic: the Gathering.
Played an awesome series with Ben (really nice dude btw). Really back and forth. Took a 2-1 lead but instead of playing games 4 and 5 I just got to watch my opponent play them.
Anyone who says "people just need to learn to adapt" should be forced to play against Nix-Ox every single game on ladder for eternity. Then they can learn that even putting cards like Withered Hand Cultist, Garnag, or Deathpriest doesn't stop the deck consistently. Nothing does. He went from (essentially) empty board to an army of 5/5s and cleared my board on turn 7. There is no counter play for that.
Drain Vitality has to be nerfed. Nix-Ox has to be adjusted. This shit is ridiculous.
As a temporary measure, you can check our Jele's petition to ban it from tournaments until the card is officially nerfed here: https://doodle.com/poll/rdk3dau4h5q9r3ch
This is Asia version of TESL under different developer and a different server.

it's a great excuse. not every card is going to be constructed playable that's impossible. a power curve is nesisary for the likes of arena and stuff.
Read this article by magic's head of rnd to explain why bad cards have to exist https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/when-cards-go-bad-2002-01-28
Yes, Night Mother. Dazer, in a move straight out of Sun Tzu's The Art of War, killed a bunch of his own creatures and triggered the effect.
I will drop something here that might or might not be part of the Twitch integration (I really hope it will!).
Twitch allows publisher to promote their game better with rewards for watching streams or streaming. This feature was first introduced with the Smite Studio HiRezStudio a few months ago and lately Twitch announced an expansion in this regard.
You are basically getting ingame items as a viewer and as a streamer you can distribute ingame items to your viewer for a higher engagement/view duration.
Example: https://www.smitegame.com/twitch-rewards-on-all-streams/
Yes, because of the relative power level of creatures to other card types in M:tG, the powerful card is Regrowth, not Raise Dead.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/latest-developments/back-future-future-2009-07-31
> When the development team talked about what had gone wrong with Regrowth in the past, we kept coming up with instants and sorceries that were problematic when cast over and over again.
你好我的中文朋友。 I'm in Shanghai, and have found NordVPN to be the only VPN to actually work on mobile (I've also tried Express, Vypr, and a host of others). However, I do have to say that Nord has a habit of disconnecting, and only having a few servers (the three newest UK, the the newest US, and the only Egypt) that actually work.
To help new players, version 1.2.0 of TESLegends Tracker android include a session with Basics Game Informations like LevelUp rewards, Race legendary rewards and Ranked rewards.
Also it has integration with matches tracked by WabbaTrack
Other features include:
Cards collection manager, full arts and sounds

I've been having this same problem and after a lot of trial and error I got the game to run. This is what I did 1. Download APK from https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/bethesda-softworks-llc/the-elder-scrolls-legends-heroes-of-skyrim/the-elder-scrolls-legends-heroes-of-skyrim-2-9-1-release/the-elder-scrolls-legends-2-9-1-android-apk-download/ 2. Install the apk. 3. Download the xAPK from https://apkpure.com/the-elder-scrolls-legends/com.bethsoft.theelderscrollslegends?posts=1 4. Use APKpure app to extract the OBB files from the xAPK, but when it tries to install the apk, cancel it. 5. Run Legends 6. It should update some files and then load normally 7. Enjoy the game
I have no idea why it works I just know that it does
Mark rose water wrote an article about the types of MTG players there are here: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/timmy-johnny-and-spike-2013-12-03
Basically, Johnnies like to win, but they think that winning in a special way is better than just winning. They’re competitive but want to play unconventional decks.
Spikes win because winning is important and they don’t care how. Net deck tier whoring doesn’t bother them.
Timmy is the third type of player. He just wants to play big things. He role plays. He just wants to have fun and the card game facilitates it.
I want to be a Johnny, but the end of the day I don’t enjoy it.
It depends on what you would call way bigger. The game has (in it's current state) already 3 to 5 times more players than TESL (visible through various stats like reddit, twitter, facebook or twitch before the afk drop invasion. I stopped playing for 2 weeks relatively high on the leaderboard at that time and dropped e.g. more places than Legends had active players on Steam in that timeframe). With a mobile release, single player campaign, full release and finally more cards the gap will just widen, because there is no hype for Legends at all unfortunately.
I would love to see some huge tournaments, but in the end that won't be a game changer that will "explode" and increase the player base over night. There are more urgent problems than that, on the other hand it is funny that e.g. a small indie company like Abrakam (Faeria developer - https://www.faeria.com) have a way higher polished product and an official monthly esports event. It's not big by any means in comparison to something like Gwent or Hearthstone, but one has to wonder how such a miracle can happen. :P
I actually have enough in Google Opinion Rewards. Appreciate the suggestion though! For those Android users, interested:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.paidtasks
Note: it may use your device location and browsing history and sends you surveys. I think you can turn off some of those options if you don't want it tracking you, but you'll get fewer surveys. Might take a little while before you earn enough to buy something though. I think it's also on the Apple app store but I don't have experienced in using it.
It's especially bad right now because on iOS, you can delete the app, clear its data from storage, basically do everything but a raindance and when you reinstall, it'll still go back to the old account with no option to log in as a different user. (At least on my iPad, for some reason it worked on my iPhone.) They've said they have to refresh/log you out from their end, but I submitted a ticket on Saturday maybe and no dice.
It's certainly odd that the feature doesn't exist but they've confirmed it doesn't.
1., 2., 10. Card games need "bad" cards:
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/when-cards-go-bad-2002-01-28
3.) Additional tutorial - yes!! At the very least, point new players to twitch, youtube, reddit, where they can learn more.
4.) This is exactly how Casual works now already, just that the matchmaking rating (MMR)is obviously not tight to a particular deck, but to a player. If you keep losing, you'll be matched with weaker and weaker opponents.
> The only other way to grind is winning 3 games in a row
Nope, it doesn't need to be in a row - you can win one game in ranked, lose 2 in ranked, lose one in casual, win one in casual, then next day lose one in casual, lose one in ranked, and win one in ranked - and you'll get the 3-win bonus.
> my internet is in no way capable of streaming, and streaming will cause lag for everyone else using it
I of course have no idea of how slow your internet is, but just in case you didn't know - in most streams you can adjust the quality of the video. And a 160p stream really doesn't require that much from your internet connection.
> Bleakcoast Troll, Gardener of Swords, Seht's Masterwork
I am combining here the cards that you consider expensive in terms of the gems they cost to craft, which are not crafted with gems. This game has two story expansions (Dark Brotherhood and Clockwork City) and two 12-cards-expansions (Madhouse and Forgotten Hero) - you need to buy the expansion (either with in-game gold or RL money) to get access to the cards from them, and you don't spend any gems on them.
> Singleton would be a great deck type for new players, since they likely have very few cards (only 1 copy of each is needed), but crafting 3 legendaries (Seht's Masterwork etc.)
Besides the Singleton cards being from the Forgotten Hero expansion (see above), they are obviously unique ("Singleton").
Listen to her enter-Play and attack sounds on TESLegends Tracker.
But in case you can't install app: Play
Yes, TES Legends Tracker has a session with Basic Info that show the legendary cards that you can receive when level-up based on your portrait race and the ranked rewards the you can receive at the end of month.
you should be able to find it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bethsoft.theelderscrollslegends
but as i wrote somewhere else already: something changed about the site, it looked different before. it used to tell me that my devices aren't compatible, now it simply says "pre-register".
Player classifications depending on what they try to get out of a collectible (trading) card game. Those articles are renown not only around the card game community. Even video game developers use it for their product design, for example the devs at Grinding Gear Games for their F2P ARPG Path of Exile:
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/timmy-johnny-and-spike-2013-12-03
Both of those cards fit entirely different strategies and we have no idea what we are making a decision based on. A better way to generate discussion is to compare 2 cards in the context of a single deck - for example, Namira's Shrine vs Fervor of Battle in Empire Conscription.

Also, you can find high-quality PNGs of cards in here. You can also use GIMP to make better graphics for your posts.
Depending on where you live and whether you decide to let Google track your daily activities, you'll get a short survey (you have to answer a few basic questions) from time to time, earning you between 0.10 $ and 0.70 $.
I decided to opt out of activity tracking and still get a survey every few days. I've heard reports from people with active tracking who get several surveys a day.
One tip, though: Be honest in answering the questions. They seem to have some algorithms in place to detect liars and stop giving out surveys to them.
ah, ok, thanks. If I access the link on the phone, I do get a 'pre-register' option. However, after I use it, it tells me "your device is not compatible with this version". oh well.
later edit: I was able to pre-register at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bethsoft.theelderscrollslegends&hl=en from my PC, but I had to leave the Beta for the app (I had it installed on an actual tablet). After doing that (using the same link), I could activate the 'Pre-register' option.
Here are the ten new cards they are rolling out: https://www.faeria.com/news/announcements/100-ten-new-toys-winter-2016
They also revamped the rewards system to make it more F2P-friendly. You can now reroll the rarest card in each pack, and every time you level up you are presented with a choice of three cards you don't yet own (includes legendaries). There are other level up rewards, too.
The gameplay has not changed dramatically, so if you weren't a fan a few months ago it's unlikely that you'll have a different experience now. It is a bit slower than other CCGs for sure, but I'm a fan of its depth: positioning on an actual board, two sets of resources, resource collection on board, choice to draw/land/mana each turn, etc.
Edit: If you completed the prologue by the time they pushed the update in October, you received something like 20 packs. Maybe log in to see if you got it.
If you have a few minutes, here's a great article from head MTG designer Mark Rosewater explaining why bad cards need to exist. Definitely worth a read if you are a fan of card games. {https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/good-bad-and-ugly-truth-2005-07-18-0}(https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/good-bad-and-ugly-truth-2005-07-18-0)
The first two are free to download on Bethesda's site. You can get Arena here and Daggerfall here. If you have Steam, you can get Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim in a bundle for a pretty decent price! Oblivion is my personal favourite content wise. The main story line is a bit hard to follow at times, and rather boring. But Skyrim is the most fun. The others are classics and equally enjoyable just because they feel so surreal. Hope this helps, and enjoy!
You definitely should; they're so good, and it's fun to see a card and recognize it from the lore. Up until recently I had only played Skyrim, but now I'm playing through Oblivion and I plan on playing Morrowind after that. Before that the games are a little hard to play (mostly because they're genuinely hard to emulate, but they're also as you can imagine pretty outdated), but Bethesda actually provides them for free here if you're interested.
FWIW, for the OC players - 11:00 am Friday, Central Time (CT) is 2:00 am Saturday, Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) Link: https://www.worldtimebuddy.com/cst-to-aest-converter
The folders are used by the game, they're just picked up by Photos for some odd reason (it shouldn't happen by default).
Either way, there's a very simple and permanent fix for this:
First, you'll need a file manager app that allows you to create new files (you don't have to root your device for this). I'm using the free ES File Explorer for this.
You'll have to go to the following directory: (internal storage) /Android/data/com.bethsoft.theelderscrollslegends/files/
Depending on your device and app it might also show up as /storage/emulated/0/Android/...
or /sdcard/Android/...
etc.
Create an empty file called .nomedia
(the leading dot is important). The created file won't show up by default (only if you specifically show hidden files).
Once done, the folder should no longer show up in Photos and similar maps, as long as they respect that special file pattern.
TES Legends Tracker has a session with Basic Info that show the legendary cards that you can receive when level-up based on your portrait race. Pick the one that has cards that you want for some deck.

It installs! And launches! I'm on a Nexus 6.
EDIT: Stuck on loading screen right now.
EDIT2: This is as far as I could get. I'm so excited it's releasing on mobile soon, though! I have very little PC time available but this is perfect for my bus commute.
Oh, looks like the app just needed permissions.
I'm using this APK since it was released
No issues as of now
Wow definitely has its own competitions. Just a quick google search reveals:
https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/game/pvp/leaderboards/3v3
Ah yes, supported by their own game maker.
Candy crush has its own leaderboard. Part of that game is showing your high score. And imo, candy crush is derivative of Tetris, and Tetris has a world class competition. https://youtu.be/DdfRQjb5o9k
So does the rubies cube for that matter. Minecrafting is a building game, engineers and scientists have been having world class building competitions forever.

I am surprised to not see this article linked yet:
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/when-cards-go-bad-2002-01-28
Basically I thought of your post today when I was rethinking some of the best performing decks in the latest Championship (yes, I am a netdecker, shame on me). So, just thinking of points 4-6 - how often have you seen these cards in competitive games before the corresponding decks arose?
Ravenous Crocodile (activator + 3/4 body for 2 magicka in Ward BM),
Dwarven Spider and Spider Worker outside of a Dwemer deck (cheap cycle in petamax' abomination)?
Your suggestion of Reconstruction Engine and Fabricants sounds a bit like this deck from Ksedden:
https://vk.com/legends_tes?z=photo-145212175_456239097%2Falbum-145212175_00%2Frev
Why would Reconstruction Spider being a neutral be a bug?! It's a Dwemer!
I am also trying to play Tokens now, but don't see War Cry there - it seems too situational (in your example, it is absolutely a win-more card).
Same about Jarl: it is a 7-drop with not really impressive total stats unless you have a Fervor out; and if you can win with his special wincon, you would definitely win without it as well. I prefer curving out at 5-6 magicka - but I play Token Crusader, with admittedly way more card draw.
Midnight Sweep is great when you get to play it from a Prophecy, but if you say that you want to be the aggressor, it's underwhelming.
> the obvious Marked Man and Pot8 synergies
You wish! Makeshift Defenses (his token) is neutral :(
I've just checked it on my phone:
CPU time 3h 9m
Received data: 29Mb
Sent data: 26 Mb
Battery drain: 582 mAh / 11%
Xiaomi Mi Max 2 (5300 mAh battery on a 6.44", 1080p screen)
I think it's fine battery-wise. I just hate small hit boxes! Emoting, attacking with the left most creature in filled left lane is nearly impossible, washed out colors (guards were so much more visible before and colors were better)
I don't mind the V/O since I have it on mute, but that Ancano really sounds "lame"
> It makes sense to you to have unique legendaries which are unplayable?
I am not sure what specific role Unique Legendaries play and how this should reflect their playability. But here is an excellent article about why there have to be bad cards in general:
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/when-cards-go-bad-2002-01-28
Summary:
By definition, some bad cards have to exist. (The most important reason.)
Some cards are “bad” because they aren’t meant for you.
Some cards are “bad” because they’re designed for a less advanced player.
Some cards are “bad” because the right deck for them doesn’t exist yet.
“Bad” cards reward the more skilled player.
Some players enjoy discovering good “bad” cards.
Some “bad” cards are simply R&D goofing up.
I used Blender. It's a an open source program so it's free for anyone to use:
It's got a lot of features and I believe a big update is coming early next year that revamps the UI and adds a bunch of features. Pretty exciting.
You don’t use RES, but I do, so it’s probably an issue regarding the interaction between this sub’s CSS and RES.
Yeah, i can see the frustating potential... but i liked the idea too much to not design a card around it ;P ... I found the art here .
You can also get a free copy of morrowind from the Bethesda site/launcher.
Royalty free music. Quite some stuff is under NC (non-commercial) which is a problem if you want to monetize your videos later, but I assume they have an option to filter those ;)
was a bug, which I believe I just squashed, thanks for reporting!
edit: FTR you can read all the code here: https://glitch.com/edit/#!/humane-bugle?path=public/client.js:104:36
Oooh nice catch, I just fixed a bug where I wasn't calling a function, so now at least one rare should work.
Also I forgot to increment the mercy rule counter, so now that should work too. Nice QA work!
edit: FTR you can read all the code here: https://glitch.com/edit/#!/humane-bugle?path=public/client.js:104:36
>So far I've very briefly tried Eternal and Gwent, which didn't do it for me, and Mythgard which I do quite like but having spent time getting reasonably good at TESL it feels bad not knowing what I'm doing again in a CCG!
Magic Arena is also great but requires a lot of grinding to own a collection.
Kunming is really nice. You should forget about TESL for a few days and spend some time outdoors, or travelling in Yunnan province. I'd recommend Dali and Lugu Hu (Lugu Lake) if you have the chance, though the latter is pretty remote.
Lantern (as weipenghuang mentioned) is popular with Chinese users. Astrill is hands down the best VPN, but has a monthly or yearly fee.
I use Private Internet Access, which is a paid VPN service, that is only reasonably priced if you pay half a year at a time :)
I'm not sure if switching the currencies up like that works, i think it was more about matching the prices my steam account is set up with. Not sure.
There are no Planeswalkers here. Wrong game. :P
Just to be sure, this is the correct store page: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bethsoft.theelderscrollslegends
Scroll a bit down and make sure you're not participating in the beta, if it shows up for you. If you're in the beta program (I could join it yesterday), leave it and update the client through the store once again. Then just start and login as usual, but loading might take a while while the client downloads the game files.
Here is the Google play link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bethsoft.theelderscrollslegends
You might have to open it in chrome instead of the play store to see if it is "compatible" with your device.
If that doesn't work, try sideloading the app from this or another site:
https://m.apkpure.com/the-elder-scrolls-legends/com.bethsoft.theelderscrollslegends
You can download the updates by searching for the "version number elder scrolls legends apk." So like the current version number is 1.71.0 or something.
I don't know about data mining, but I've been using this app for keeping me entertained, it contains a lot of the sound files in good definition (you can save them in your phone from the app) and full card arts too.
If you have a android phone, you can use Arena Draft Helper feature of TES Legends Tracker. It is based on /u/CVH list (he gave permission), updated with latest tiers values and has a synergy feature that add some points for a pick based on previous picks as you can see this on picture.
TESLegends Tracker for Android has:

I actually read this on the TESL facebook-site a few hours ago and it still said "you get a random legendary for pre-registering". they altered the announcement, probably because of the stuff i just copied from the play store announcement.

edit: here you go: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bethsoft.theelderscrollslegends
I haven't tried it with TES:Legends yet, but I use Unified Remote for PC and the Google Play companion app. Lots of useful utilities, as well as a screen mirror, which I assume is where it could be used to play.
