In case this isn't a joke, and with me knowing nothing of the situation or this guy, it sounds like he's struggling with depression.

It's important to understand that you personally can't "fix" this. If he had a broken leg, talking to him wouldn't change the shattered leg. Depression is the same because it's an illness, not an attitude. But just like if he had a broken leg, you can help him heal.

Offering support, friendship, and kindness will do wonders. Mental illness is isolating. Contact him, ask about him, and simply listen. Don't judge, don't try to fix it. That's not your job. Just try to understand and let him feel heard. The act of reaching out will show him that you care.

Then understand your limitations. There are almost definitely people more qualified and more able to help him than you. Therapists, counselors, and doctors are trained to recognize and treat symptoms of this disease. You can be a big help by pointing him towards them. Encouraging him to receive this treatment from professionals is how you can best help him long term.

And don't act alone. Talk to people you trust, people he trusts. Activate your support network. Get advice for your specific situation from people who understand your space. This is stressful for you too. So don't feel like you need to carry it alone.

Bottom line is, be a friend, encourage them to get treatment, and don't take it all on yourself.

That was presented to me as a fact but before responding to you saying that it's true, I researched it and apparently the consensus is that it's a myth.

Uhm... You are aware that one of the foundational principles of Christianity is the idea that there is cause and effect. Nu-metal incorporates a poppier style than metal. While metal tends to rely on a standard set of instruments and has a very easily identifiable sound (heavy distortion guitars, sometimes a double-kick, powerful vocals), nu-metal incorporates additional sounds and instrumentation. Linkin Park is probably the definitive nu-metal band, as you can easily see the difference between them, with their rap verses, distorted vocals, and electronic elements, and normal metal bands. Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, P.O.D., Korn, and Evanescence are other examples.

Metalcore takes the core of metal (hence the name), and runs with it. The point of metal, at least in the beginning, to subvert expectations and go against the grain. Metalcore latches onto that idea with reckless abandon. Where metal exercises restraint, metalcore goes all-out. Where metal uses lyrics to drive home a point, metalcore uses aggressive vocals to drive their point home. It's also heavily influenced by the emo scene, which also contributes to the heavy emotion in metalcore. Examples include Asking Alexandria, Trivium, Bullet For My Valentine, and Black Veil Brides.

Personally, I'm not a fan of either. I usually prefer power metal or just straight-up metal. For example, this is one of my most-used Pandora stations. Sabaton, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Within Temptation, Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, etc.

I've read a lot of Roman history and while I've heard this opinion, I've never read a credible article that could convince me that it's true.

Tom Holland, who wrote a book called Dynasty about the first 5 Roman emperors really backed up the whole "neckbeard" character of Nero. He had severe "mommy" issues and probably killed his own mother.

Some fun and modern things you could try are creating your own site using Angular (https://angular.io/tutorial) or creating your own phone app (iOS or Android, both will have tutorials, though with iOS you may still need a Mac to make one). Both may be throwing you into the deep end a bit to start, but they'd at least be interesting.

If you do make an Angular site, Visual Studio Code is a perfectly good free IDE (integrated development environment). If you make an Android app, the Visual Studio free community version is good to use. I don't know much about making iOS apps.

Another thing you could try is using Python, which is pretty easy to pick up, to see if you can write scripts to help you in your everyday life.

But I think the important part is making code that actually does something for you. Developing something in and of itself is not all that fun, so if you cycle through tutorials that don't result in something that actually does something for you you'll probably lose interest.

Also, the hardest part of starting a new coding project is getting it all setup and compiled the very first time :) don't feel defeated if something won't build, keep searching and debugging, Google and StackOverflow are your friend.

One of the other things that turns me away from metalcore is the constant bickering about what constitutes a certain type of metal by metalcore fans. There's an entire genre around it, but this particular author is like crack cocaine he's such a good writer.

The premise is that it's a world where your level or rank as a adventurer is a perceptible thing and you gain skill increases with it, kind of like if the attributes in D&D were real. But at the same time sentient dungeons follow the exact same system in competition with adventurers.

I destroyed the three books in this series in a week and went on to the second semi-related series and read the first book in that one in three days. Thank god another one is coming out this month.
