The Amazon Basics case for My Passport hard drives is cheap and just about the perfect size. My wife had one for her backup drive, but now it's my PO travel case. :-)
You cannot use this device to backup your PO33. The backup requires (stupidly) a stereo input with a minimum sample rate of 44.1kHz, lossless. You'll need a inexpensive audio interface, something like this from M-Audio. Also, it still might not work because the PO33 doesn't always write/read correctly.
Hi all. I am very much enjoying this thing. It's easy to carry around, toss in a backpack, hold on your lap - and being able to play and record two POs on a moment's notice without having to fuss with cables is amazing.
/u/DavidRxz - dealie on the left is a Sony stereo digital recorder. It's tiny, records WAV or MP3, and has a slide-out USB port (like a thumb drive). This makes it easy to record a performance when I'm outside or in bed or whatever, then pull the files onto my PC later.
Signal path goes:
Arcade -> KO -> Sony -> Headphones
There's a right angle jack that flips up on the Arcade input if I want to plug something else in.
Got the foam on Amazon - it's in layers so I could cut out a notch for the batteries, route cables, etc.. on the lower layer. Glued together with Fast Foam 74.
I share this a lot on here, so I don't think you really searched the sub, but this is a cheap and fast option :
Sabrent USB External Stereo Sound Adapter for Windows and Mac. Plug and play No drivers Needed. (AU-MMSA) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00IRVQ0F8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apip_wKM7Nttz7Awms
If it is anything like iOS, you need a 4 connection jack that is active to turn the headphone jack into a line in connection.
EDIT: Here is an Amazon Link
After some discussions with other users, I realized capturing the stereo backup file is a bit trickier than expected with a PC. But I found a solution using a $18 audio capture card from amazon that works perfectly. I recorded a complete walk-through, but if you're familiar with the process, the only missing piece for you is the USB stereo audio capture card. Here's the specific one I used:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B019T9KS04/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00
If you have any questions or if I can clarify anything or improve the video, please let me know.
Thanks!
but it doesn’t have an FX loop I wired it up and soldered an in/out to the case. I hook up a kaossilator mini for master FX.
Already found a solution but it's not ideal, https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0013NFRII/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_I7ZcFbFTA9YB6 a proper lens which is rectangular and of the right size for a reasonable price has thus far eluded me so I have went for a helix pocket reading magnifier card as a cheap test I plan to front light the screen too to make it more visible when encased too
I am sure there are better options, like finding an interface that works well with Android, but I wasn't willing to shell out the money at the time to find out.
I ended up with the following:
It's not perfect, but with Google Opinion Rewards and already having an OTG cable, this solution cost me under $8. The reviews on the sound card are accurate. Sometimes there is an audio delay, but for me it has been infrequent.
I think eventually I will purchase a field recorder for recording on the go instead of using my phone. But, if you find a better solution for Android, I would be interested in hearing about it.
EDIT- I forgot to mention that with this solution it is possible to use headphones to monitor what you are recording.
I created all of the sounds for this on my Nord Lead. It took almost an entire day to get the sound design and sequencing figured out, and nearly two weeks to learn how to play the leads (which I still kinda messed up in a couple of places), but I think the hard work paid off. It sounds a lot better than I expected!
PO-33 is running through a Behringer RV600 pedal, and the PO-35 through a Behringer EM600. Both were processed by some EQ and compression in Reaper, but the raw audio also sounds great—I've shared the data dump over at my new Gumroad page if anyone is ok with a small donation in order to load the sounds on their own PO-33.
Let me know what you think, and feel free to ask questions!
Use a double 1/8th inch from the device to the pc. Use that to record.
If you're using a mac laptop you need an adapter like this as I believe they don't separate the mic into a separate port anymore.
I have the Little Bear passive mixer. It sounds... OK. You'll notice a lot of gain reduction as signals fight for space and it's a little hard to get an even output if the inputs vary a lot in amplitude. Still, it's better than chaining POs together and it doesn't require batteries.
However, I also have, and recommend, the Dude mixer by Bastl. It's really great.
Yea, I’ve had similar experiences with the pick & pull foam, but have found over time that the key is keeping two rows between most things rather than just one… here’s a link to the case itself if you’re interested
HUL 14in Two-Tone Aluminum Case with Customizable Pluck Foam Interior for Test Instruments Cameras Tools Parts and Accessories https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0827L9MPW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_A694RF4ZG794YSK0VJG1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This one is cheaper. But using this means you won't have a way to hear what you're recording while you're filming. So if you have your sequence all set up then you'll be fine, but this won't be great for live jamming.
My wife bought me some of these cases as a gift and they are just a bit too thin for the buttons to make it, the silicone case will make it a little too long as well. I didn’t look for a good price but you may consider something like this: Amazon Basics External Hard Drive Portable Carrying Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F5CKWBA/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_api_glt_fabc_QCWEYR3M407CTT1W0G7G
Exactly, you need the left/right splitter cable. I also had to get a mono to stereo adapter for getting good audio from a PO to the NTS-1. The L/R splitters are a TS mono plug and the NTS-1 is expecting TRS stereo so, depending on what cables you use to connect, it will only play on one side of headphones or whatever else you plug into the NTS-1 audio out.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002N1XMPO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
One of these plugged between the PO audio end of the splitter and the "audio in" of the NTS-1 and it worked for me.
Snug as bugs in rugs. The Tascam is a micron taller than would be perfect, everything shuts cleanly without bulge but the foam needs to be depressed a bit to get there. Still, everything is really cleanly in its place.
Since I took this photo I decided to put the patch cables in the battery slots, I think it’s a better use for that space.
Good value and made in the US, or so they claim.
While checking the Amazon listing so I could link it for anyone in a similar need, I realized the current price is at $29 plus $20 shipping! No longer available prime nor at the $20 something I paid.
Also seeing ~$30 prime for used.
Plenty of pick ‘n pluck foam cases out there (and similar sized pistol carrying cases) so shop around. Definitely not worth the current listed prices.
Also funny how these po28 are 58 dollar on amazon lol
https://www.amazon.com/Teenage-Engineering-TE010AS028A-Pocket-Operator/dp/B01BKO3GQO
So pleaee land back on earth and get a reality check before you say someone is moronic
I bought this case on Amazon and it's great! I put my KO and Arcade in there and can probably still fit a third if I ever get another one. The foam has little removable cubes so you can make it fit anything/anyway you want.
I forgot to mention that a cheap hard drive case is also great for taking the POs on daily commutes, I got this one on Amazon that fits the PO perfectly and has a little pocket for headphones/extra batteries/etc.
I don't think so, but I remembered using SPC Music Drum Pad a while back:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mikrosonic.SPCDemo
The demo is very good by itself. There's no bells and whistles but it gets the job done for your purposes!
I'm using DRC synth ATM, there is an bunch of presets. Only used it once so I do really know much about it but it got me a nice sound so .
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imaginando.drc
From what I understand this won't work for the backup functionality of a PO-33 because it requires stereo. Does that sound correct?

So the best alternative would be to get something like a 2x2? https://smile.amazon.com/Tascam-US-2x2-Interface-Microphone-Compatibility/dp/B00MIXF2RS

Seems crazy to have to buy a $150 device to save simple audio recordings of a $90 device. However, I know nothing about audio equipment; so maybe it makes sense.
Oh duh also heres the gear I used
USB Audio adapter - Griffin Technology iMic - The original USB Stereo Input and Output Audio Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003Y5D776/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_HWLrBbZZTT5VS
Recording Program - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd.usbaudiorecorderpro
Note that you should have the usb audio device plugged in before opening the program. Also the default setting for it is mono. On the settings page the furthest setting to the right select stereo. The default setting of 44.1khz is the correcting setting.
Huge respect to OP for posting this. Thank you.
With this guide I managed to get it to work with the Ugreen USB External Sound card adapter https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01M7QQQC7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_cd8tBbM3CY5KV
along with the Wave editor for Android app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.sbaud.wavstudio
I had to ensure that WaveEditor USB input was selected as the USB microphone driver to get stereo input.
Also, even though Ugreen say that the USB adapter has a mono only microphone input (says on box and website), it actually is stereo (as stated on amazon).
Edit: have noticed that after a restore I have less memory/time remaining. Anyone else find that? I'm thinking it uses up all the memory with the restore even if you had memory remaining before the restore.
I have used this with great success: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonymobile.androidapp.audiorecorder
But any audio recording app should work as long as it can record in at least 16bit mono 44kHz.
I can’t say much about the quality of the Pokket Mixer, never tried one. But it is a cheap passive Mixer that should be considered to added to your list.
I remember, when the inventor sold his first ones on a flea market in Berlin. Now, years later he has his own local shop.
I just received the UCA202, the other sound card and a couple of Jack-RCA cables that I ordered and I can confirmed that everything works with my pixel.
I installed the Android App suggested and tested both devices.
The App clearly shows that the UCA202 records in Stereo, while the other sound card only in mono.
Really happy with the UCA202. I just made my first ringtone with the PO-20 :)
I left a comment but didn’t realize you’re interface only has one input, sorry. I think for this you’ll just need to use a 1/8inch female to 1/4male adapter like this https://www.amazon.com/Stereo-Adapter-6-35mm-Converter-Headphones/dp/B0966YRTWF
Usually if you have a pair of studio headphones you should already have one. The only important thing is to make sure that the adapter and the cord your using are stereo NOT mono. Just make sure it has the two rings around it. The PO output is stereo so you have to have it all stereo when your exporting sound.
So I use a handheld recorder that has a 1/8 inch input which is super nice but I know if you want to have the pocket operator go into an interface youre going to need a cord that has 1/8 inch stereo to double 1/4 inch.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Tisino-Stereo-Y-Splitter-Cable-Breakout/dp/B07K58VX13
You want this because the PO output is in stereo. You’ll plug the 1/8 inch into the PO and the two 1/4 inch cables into both inputs of your interface. When in a DAW you’ll want to make sure that your input is set to 1+2 so that both cables are going into one track.
This is what I was going to do before I realized I could use my handheld recorder. Hope this answers your question!
You need a 3.5mm male mono to female stereo adaptor. Plug the male mono end into the red side of the TRS splitter and the stereo female end into the NTS1 audio in.
https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-107128-Stereo-Adaptor-Plated/dp/B002N1XMPO
> but also sucks that the OPZ screen app is locked to iOS (it is yea?).
Nope. I think it was when it launched though.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teenageengineering.te012
I was going to suggest that Koala (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.elf.koalasampler&hl=en\_GB&gl=US) may be of use to you for sample preparation. But at the end of the day it does pretty much everything the PO33 does already (and more) so you might end up not actually needing the PO33 at all ;-)
Custom Amen break at 170 - repeated on Koala Weird glitchy drums at 170 - repeated on po 33 Dumb baseline at 170 - repeated on pocket operator 14 sub
Koala is driving with po sync out
Everything running thru pocket sync- found on tindie- https://www.tindie.com/products/p0k3t...
Then the outs of the pocket operators go into a passive mixer I found on amazon. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08VJ44BSF?...
Then the output from the mixer into a small Bluetooth speaker with input jack.
Everything goes in the dj mixer travel case.
I like to sample from records and things I hear around the neighborhood.

The OP1 is great but if sequencing is important to you, the OP-Z sequencer is amazing. I still love my OP1 though.
I would have thought that if you get a lightning to USB host cable (I think Apple maybe call these "camera adapter"?) then you should be able to plug in something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sabrent-External-Adapter-Windows-AU-MMSA/dp/B00IRVQ0F8/ref=asc_df_B00IRVQ0F8/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310831391922&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2882494462749643027&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006555&hvtargid=pla-563309581845&psc=1 which is effectively a "PC sound card" and it then give a MIC input jack that the iPhone should recognize as an audio source.
I have the MickXer mentioned below which works pretty well but there is some signal loss since it's a passive mixer. I haven't tried this yet, but I'm considering buying this from amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Maker-Hart-LOOP-MIXER-Portable/dp/B01M68UK38
I did it by opening this URL in a browser on my laptop: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teenageengineering.pocketoperatorforpixel
And it allowed me to install it through there. I couldn't find it in the playstore either, and a direct link hid the install button for me. But through a browser I managed to install it.
Also it's on apkmirror now.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OAW85ZG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I got this cheap dongle which turns your headphone jack into a line input by using the input for headsets. It's a little finicky (have to jiggle it to make the connection sometimes) and there is no way to monitor it, but it works great!
Just turn your PO up to full volume and record it straight in while filming or recording to an voice notes/ garageband whatever app
You can plug in Something like this to your iPhone and plug your PO output to the mic jack. when you record into garage band it’ll pick up that input
For some reason it did seem hard to find, but I found it. $60 now. po-24 Office is still available for $50. Not sure if they fluctuate. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00W40PCES/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_KES6G17H9F437QAMDCK6
I’ve got all of mine in a case similar to this one with the pick n pluck foam. Popped out slots for each to lay on edge, and addition space for cables and batteries.
Hey, sorry for the late reply
Essentially used
Single battery holders
and attached them to the case with 3m double sided tape
and soldered the leads to the terminals, red to + and black to -
it helps to apply the solder to both the lead and to the terminal before connection
if you have a soldering clamp stand or can safely hold it in a bench vise with some padding
then with soldering iron in one hand and leads in the other attach them with the presoldered joints.
You don’t need an audio interface. Just need a USB microphone adapter. Something like this should work.

GarageBand should be able to use it as an audio input device.
I think theres like an $18 version too. Looks the same

If your computer doesn’t have a mic input, you need a sound adapter.
I bought this (very) cheap one and got pleasing results :
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Adapter-Windows-AU-MMSA/dp/B00IRVQ0F8/
Easy recommendation before trying a more expensive one IMAO
If your computer has only one audio Jack, it’s a mic/headphone hybrid. The technical aspects of the hardware are explained above.
You can get a trs to trrs adaptor for pretty cheap so you can run the audio in to the computer. But I don’t know if that will match the contact points you want to connect inside the computer.
Audio input will be mono, not stereo
Best bet is to invest in an interface.
A zoom h1 has a stereo line in that you can plug your PO into. Then plug it into your computer and pull files like a hard drive. Or, it could work as an interface. I use the H5 for that purpose.
Zoom ZH1 H1 Handy Portable Digital Recorder https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003QKBVYK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_WDD9XJBCSGMFZAGCKP68?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
with this badboy
At the very least you need to solder wires to at least one pair of positive and negative terminals. From there you can connect to an external power source, like a AAA battery holder. If you can't solder you could try alligator clips if there is something to grab onto.
The setup you have is basically what I have, but I have a type C sound card adapter that's a little different (https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-External-Adapter-Windows-AU-MMSC/dp/B071HJ98Q6/).
If you have a Pixel phone, on the stock Camera app(Play store: Google Camera) when you go to video there should be a little triangle (v) at the top when it detects the external audio adapter, tap that and there's an option to turn the external 'mic' on. Then when you press record you should get the audio coming straight from your PO.
If you just want a simple way to combine multiple sources and control levels, the Moukey mixers are cheap and versatile.
8 inputs, which can all be switched between mono/stereo individually. Small footprint, and so far I’ve had no noise issues with mine.
Hi, nice Idea, Made my own Sample Database in Notion a while ago. Maybe you want to include some links from it.
I recommend actually getting something to hold your phone.

Ok Patternarium is way cooler than I thought. Reminds me a bit of artbreeder.com in the way biological concepts are applied. I might have to pick up a Tonic just so I can practice copying some of these beats. Thanks for putting me onto it!
AI software through their site. kinda like these websites that split instrumental and vocals from a track https://www.lalal.ai/ but I think their software is able to split it into 4 tracks. interesting
It has both. So you can do a full A minor scale and a full C major scale, plus whatever scales that includes those notes and a G#.
Turns out Wolfram Tones calls that a "Major Beebop" scale :) Never heard of that before. This site has something to say about that, though.

I guess an irig2 or similar all in one might be easier. But I like I can use the above 2 items for other things. UCA202 can be used on PC, Mac and Android. The Apple adapter can be used for loads of other USB devices - midi, usb drive etc
The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.
What you want is a "3.5mm TRS to dual RCA" cable. Here's an example.

Seems just right for me considering the Sub is $60 now
Oh right mac's don't have a mic jack, sorry about that. heres a link to a usb to 3.5mm jack that you can plug said audio cable into to record on mac
You'll need a 1/8in (3.5mm) male to dual 1/4in male cable. This is what I use. As long as you make sure the red cable is in the right channel and black is left. That way you can record backups anywhere you want onto an SD card! I don't think a single TRRS cable would work because the TRS inputs on the recorder will record a single mono signal.
Why not try something like this? I've only ever used Energizer Recharge Power Plus 800 mAh NiMH AAA amazon and never had a problem in any of my five POs.
> Hope your PS4 controller case will do as wel as mine.
no go it seems for me, peep the link. The search continues..
Headset buddy into the dongle worked for me. If you need a link let me know. Has to be the line-in mic one though.
Sadly the recent MacBooks have removed the line-in function from the headphone jack, as far as I know, so you'll need an audio interface to get the audio out of your pocket operators and into GarageBand!
There are a lot of ~$100 audio interfaces that provide USB-to-audio options for your computer (usually using 1/4 inch jacks, like guitar-cable-sized inputs), but if you're rocking the pocket operators I super recommend the Zoom H1n portable recorder -- it costs the same as an entry-level audio interface, but it can function either as a recorder all on its own, so you could record your jams/ideas/patterns on the go, or, if you hook it up to your Air via USB, you can use it as an audio interface to record the pocket operators right into GarageBand! You'd just need a 3.5mm audio cable to go between the PO and the Zoom (and a few of those if you want to daisy-chain POs to jam with them together).
This is the one I picked up
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BHGWBFY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This aux-to-USB-audio is working fine for me, for less than $20 US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079CBGDST/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_RVAaGbE6T22BN?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Read reviews and YMMV, of course.
First off, this is no advertisement.
I'm always looking for fun audio apps to experiment with, and recently I found this Android App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.dumbcomics.experimentalfmsynthesizer and I though: "what would happen if I slap a lot of reverb on this and mix it with 2 Pocket Operators?"
Kind of experimental, kind of interesting, I thought it was worth sharing.
So it took me some time to figure out what kind of case i want. One day I figured out that maybe a cigarette box will be the perfect fit for a pocket operator. After a very long search without any success I got this add for a cigarette case that looks like a mini flightcase. I bought on a Dutch website. But here is link for it on the german Amazon website
https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Roadinger-Cigarette-Case-Black/dp/B000V3IBM0
If all you’re storing is POs and you don’t mind only having a cm of foam between them, I could probably fit 6 in this one (on their side). I have mine in Dich cases.

Hi, sorry to disturb you once more. I found these USB rechargeable batteries and I'm wondering if I could charge them while they're still inserted in the pocket operator? Would any problems occur?
Movo MC3 3.5mm TRS to TRRS Adapter - Microphone Adapter for iPhone and Android Smartphones and Tablets https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N9CJDVE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_vg01FbNPEEQDK and Syncwire 3.5mm Nylon Braided Aux Cable (3.3ft/1m,Hi-Fi Sound), Audio Auxiliary Input Adapter Male to Male AUX Cord for Headphones, Car, Home Stereos, Speaker, iPhone, iPad, iPod, Echo & More – Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01I0SI1SG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_Xl01FbTMY48S6 use the 3 banded trrs adapter to go into the iphone adapter and the the other 3.5mm cable to go into the po. then you can use the voice memo recorder or shoot video to record the po - you could also use garage band - not positive- have not tried that yet.
The most direct way would be an audio interface, which is a box that lets you to plug in instruments like guitars and synths via XLR or 1/4" cable and record them on your computer without the sound getting garbled. The Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 would be a good option there.
For cables, you'd want this. It's a 3.5mm (1/8") TS cable to 1/4" TS mono cable. All pocket operators have a mono audio output, so if you use a stereo cable for recording, it won't work.
A DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) is any professional-ish audio recording program like GarageBand, Logic, ProTools, Ableton, FL Studio, Reaper, etc. To be honest DAWS can take a while to learn, but if you're familiar with one of those, great! Just plug in the cable to the output of the pocket operator, another to the input of your audio interface, set up your audio interface in your DAW, arm a track for recording, and hit "record." It's much quicker to do than to type out lol.
This is a cheap way to get a line in if you don't have a mic input

No clue if you're going to find that locally. Seems cheap on Amazon though. Might be able to find it at a music shop or something.
If you have a mic, a quiet room, and decent speaker that might be easier.
I’ve of heard a few people who’ve had luck using a UCA202 connected to a computer, OR to an iPhone through a lightning to USB adapter.
I’ve got all these things, and will have tried them out before the month is over. If I can, I’ll also try it with a raspberry pi.
If you’re interested, I’ll report back with my results.
I’d also like to try everything mentioned above with this other unit I saw on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013E21TUK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_mjAqBb07M7HWC
This is the Amazon Basics carry case for "My Passport" external hard drives - it's $5 and fits a cased Pocket Operator really well! There's enough vertical clearance for the knobs but not so much that it's flopping around in there, and feels pretty nicely in place when it's zipped up! Just thought I'd pass along in case anyone else was looking for a similar solution!
You can get a really cheap usb A/D converter for a PC, Mac, or one that plugs into an android or iPhone. There are a million things like this on amazon:
That's the plan! I can't really record anything right now tbh, but I ordered a "Headset Buddy" from Amazon after seeing people talk about it here and on YouTube, which will enable me to record. Other than that I've just got an aux cable, a headphone splitter to listen + record at the same time, and the 3.5mm to iPhone thingy.
If it's a combined mic and headphone jack, you'll need a splitter. Something like this will do, and there are dozens on amazon that won't break the bank.
Just look for a USB line in. This is the one I purchased to record line in audio from my POs and it works flawlessly. UGREEN USB Audio Adapter External... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N905VOY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I spent a week trying various cables and converters from PO to the headphone jack/mic input of my Android but got poor results. I ended up picking up this USB-C dongle. Using it in Audio Evolution with a paid driver they offer has solved the issue.

Yo check out the Roland Go Mixer. I think that is the cheapest option. I ended up going with this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BGF9N15/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_0ciJFbVV3GZK6 because it's battery powered and smaller form factor. Way more $$ than I wanted to spend but usb C is going to be prominent for a while so hopefully I'll get alot of long term use out of it.
Thanks for the reply! This is my usb to midi cable. I currently just use it with my phone for saving and sending sequences to and from my drum machine. The software app I use for this is Super MIDI Box.
CV cables look a lot like aux cables, but it turns out I had the wrong cable in mind. It's stereo aux leads PO sync with isn't it? Sorry for the confusion.
That bit of hardware certainly sounds useful! If I'm understanding you right, it could connect the midi out of a drum machine via the usb/midi cable, to a PO, and sync them? I've been looking for something that could do that for a little while now and the cheapest thing I've come across is the Korg SQ-1; if you could make a thing that achieves this for less, I'm sure you'd have at least a few customers. Whether there would be enough interest to justify your time though, who could say...
If you want to record your PO-33 from its output into your recording interface, you will need something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZKM3SHK
I fried the power on a synth before, it was a costly repair. So I'm hesitant.
This is the item - it doesn't appear to have any space for a regulator.
The product description reads "Put the battery correctly into the battery case according to the positive and negative poles, then connect the correct voltage adapter." (Emphasis added.) I take to mean they are leaving it on the user to make sure they use the right voltage. Most phone usb chargers are 5v, and I doubt TE put volt regulators inside the POs.
If you see something that points to a regulator, I'd like to know, though. Thanks.
It sounds like the problem isn't monitoring, its actually getting your mac to receive the sound input through the jack. I had the same problems with my macbook air.
I went through a lot of different things, having issues, and then I got an external soundcard. They're dirt cheap on amazon and plug into your usb. Use it to plug the PO into the USB port, then go to system settings and change the input to external device. That's it.

I saw this from amazon being mentioned on this sub before. I'm yet to receive my KO, but looks like a promising cheap alternative. Havent used it, so take this with a shitload of salt.
Here to report that the Omincron brand on Amazon fits perfectly!

It's a 5 pack for 20 bucks. I have some lego cases that I fashioned a while back around my POs, so they are a bit thicker than normal. That said, they still fit into these cases without issue!! Thank you for the headsup!!
This one on Amazon would probably do the trick. The inputs are mono but are fed to stereo channels, so you wouldn’t have to worry about panning (each P.O. would be a discreet mono input). I do not own this, so I can’t do any testing on it. Another downside is that it has a proprietary power connector, and no usb for connecting to a PC (you could still record the output into an audio interface).
