Yes, under Jefferson Park. On the hill by Marshall and 20/21st st. It's a long tunnel but the train is very near the Western entrance. Check out this book on amazon, even for someone who doesn't like to read I found it fascinating.

Weird - weather underground was showing 1 to 3" until today when it went down to ~1". https://www.wunderground.com/hourly/us/va/richmond/date/2018-12-09
It's been a while, but I've seen many shows there over the years. It's a fun space and they get some great local acts, but it's also a very small space with brick walls and they consistently blasted their speakers. Every show I've seen there over the years was exceptionally loud.
If you don't have them yet, I strongly recommend getting a pair of high-fidelity volume reduction ear plugs [like the $13 pair I have] that let you enjoy the music and still understand people talking next to you without it sounding muffled.
Enjoy!
I got my mattress off Amazon and it's one of those memory foam deals that comes all compressed. It is super firm, so if you're not into firm, you would hate it. It was under $200, though, so way worth it for me! I have not noticed any of the temperature issues other people have with memory foam.

Sounds like they missed the actual march on Saturday. RPD escorted a huge (intentionally organized) group from Monroe Park to Blackwell Community Center.
And after reading a few of these comments, I'm suggesting some of you just take a little bit of time and read through this zine myself and a few other people put together: https://www.scribd.com/document/317873059/WHITE-FOLKS-TALKING-TO-OTHER-WHITE-FOLKS-ABOUT-WHY-BLACKLIVESMATTER
Along with that, we are under a tornado watch again. So stay safe everyone.
Uber and lyft are great here, but if you're going to be using it 3-5 days a week, you might as well put that money towards rent within walking distance.
It's very easy to bike to VCU from South of the James, especially since the Lee bridge has a bike lane and the nickel bridge has a separate pedestrian crossway. If you're in the Manchester area, there will also be a pedestrian only bridge to Brown's Island you could use too.
If you do bike, check out the Strava. Looking at the heat map will give you an idea of what bike routes locals tend to take.
It's not Bear Island. It actually is mulch. There's a large mulch manufacturing company off Route 1 north of Doswell that backs up to I-95. They create bagged mulch like you'd by at Home Depot or Lowe's.
Bear Island is located south of Kings Dominion, more in line with MM 97 so the smell (which having grown up in that area I seldom if ever noticed, not like the paper mill in West Point) would not likely be making it north to MM 100 given the prevailing winds around here.
Perhaps, but the National's management were the ones who signed a contract with this vendor. It isn't a stretch for people who are actually trying to see the show and not flip tickets for a quick buck to voice their concerns and frustrations with the National's staff, who would ideally pass those concerns along to management. Without feedback, the National would never know the consequences of contracting with a scummy company like AXS when the presentation they were likely given before signing the contract was all sunshine, rainbows, and dollar signs.
And yes, AXS is a scummy company: https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.axs.com
Another tip for dealing with the race nonsense... The navigation app Waze has a whole thing about the races and is updating with road closures. It's already had Broad properly marked as closed this week.
Here's a link to their website about the event... And obviously the closures will be reflected in the app.
Scuffletown Park is great because it's usually empty, the occasional cute dog walks through or songbird stops by, and snacks are close at hand at the Strawberry Street convenience store. It's very quiet atop the VMFA belvedere, too... for shade, sit under the giant trees in the sculpture garden !
>Jokes on you, I don’t have central air.
The Joke is back on you! Get a WiFi smart outlet. Plug it into the outlet, set it up, plug the air conditioner into it. You have it even easier! I mean, you can get 4 for $20 and control your lights, A/C, Christmas tree, etc etc.
This is not a new or local issue. And it has stalled out bicycle infrastructure in other cities.
Bike Lanes are White Lanes https://www.amazon.com/Bike-Lanes-Are-White-Advocacy/dp/0803276788/ref=nodl_
The problem isn’t that bike lanes inherently go against the needs of urban low income people or areas. They’re actually great, if done right. Low income people are big users of bikes, because they sometimes can’t afford cars.
The problem is when there is a city council meeting or something and 100 predominantly white, mostly recreational cyclists show up and start screaming about the one cyclist who was killed in a traffic accident, and that dominates the meeting over the four people who just got shot in Gilpin Court that month. Not having safe enough bike lanes is kind of a first world/white privilege. This is true of the stuff Bike Walk Richmond advocates for in general. Like hey, let’s have more 10k’s and exercise trails. Not hey, let’s put up some more/better hoops courts and make sure they are safe.
You have to get low income/people of color onboard with bike lanes. Build them where they need them, not where your poll of suburban cyclists say they need them. Show them how better access helps them. Make sure bike safety also encompasses not getting shot, instead of just not getting hit by cars. Stuff like that.
I woke up, ergo it's a great day. My bar gets lower every year.
Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was a game changer, as was Blue Highways. Anything by Hunter Thompson fed my head. Earlier in my formative years, Shakespeare and Salinger and Kesey and Kerouac.
I've never been but I've heard absolutely great things about a place called Big Herm's Kitchen on 2nd street in Jackson Ward just off of Broad St.
You can try listing it on freecycle! I'm not sure if anyone is looking for one but you could at least put it up on the site for a while-- specify that they have to bring moving equipment though. Here's the link https://www.freecycle.org/
Was a professional cook/chef for about 20 years. Eventually learned the same lesson that most professionals learn: “fancy” knives are a waste of money.
Seriously, the best knife I’ve ever used (and still use every day) is this Kiwi knife. It’s about $10 at Tan-A. Lightweight, sharp af, fairly durable, wide enough to slide food around with, and when it eventually loses its edge in a year or two, you can get a new one. At $10 apiece, you can buy 20 of them for less than one of those “fancy” ones.
Tan-A grocery is at Horsepen & Broad. The kitchen stuff is in the back corner.
take some food with you, drive out 33 and hike/picknick somewhere on skyline drive. then, go check into this love shack ($25), open a few pbrs ($10), and microwave some burritos ($5), and turn on some slow jams. Sunday, take her into Harrisonburg to check out a brewery ($14) and have lunch ($25). Hopefully, your car is fuel efficient.

I don't know what the legal strategy is beyond the formation of a 501(c)(3) that was announced in yesterday's press release, but it's my personal hope that if there is truly no long term strategy for the college, that enough resources can be mobilized to keep her open for one more academic year. Tuesday's announcement could not have been timed worse for the faculty and current students. Faculty are past the hiring cycle for fall teaching positions, and students (including students who had already been admitted for fall enrollment) are past the transfer date for all but a selection of colleges who have made special arrangements. An additional year would allow current 1st/2nd years time to evaluate all their options instead of having to make hasty decisions over spring break, time for current juniors to graduate without facing the hardship of having to extend their studies (most colleges require you to have 2 years/60 credits from their institution in order to graduate) and time for the faculty to seek new positions.

Now all you need is time (the .iso takes a minute) and a USB key.
Yes, they eat insects and they eat "mosquito-sized" insects, but they rarely actually eat mosquitoes and are not an effective mosquito control technique. The information about their benefits to mosquito control are largely put out to help fight the negative views a lot of people have of bats and to try and protect them.
In reality, mosquitoes don't provide enough calories for a bat - they much prefer moths and such. https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/news/20160706/bats-mosquitoes-zika#1

if you can ditch adobe, use gimp, the open source photoshop.
i use it whenever i don't have work login creds for photoshop; be warned, it has the typical quirks of open source products...that said, it's never failed me.
I want to use the term more casually though. Whenever I can see yellow wind, I want to call it a pollen haboob.
You can (should) buy an antenna signal booster, best buy may have them. It plugs in, and the coax from your antenna screws into it, and another piece of coax cable screws into your TV. The little power box most antennas like Mohu include, usually suck, and these booster REALLY helps that signal. The link I gave you here is approximately what you need, search in Rva for one at a best buy or walmart or something, ..Radio Shack used to where I'd send you for such a thing, buuuut...
I joke about the "Household Approved Vendors List" but my best recommendation is to research who you would call in a pinch before said pinch is happening and have the info handy. When your sewer line is backed up isn't the time to go through reviews and research DPOR licenses, and picking a contractor in a rush is a recipe for picking someone bad.
Also, if you have plaster walls, purchase a magnet (a stud finder will not work) and some of these: https://www.amazon.com/12-TOGGLER-SNAPTOGGLE-included-Fastener/dp/B01IU6HG48 for when you want to hang anything up
This and the associated door covers have been VERY beneficial for our SUV. Purchased and put on in 2018, and still like the day we got them.
I came here to say this also. Added bonus, the hole in the center will be perfectly centered.

I used to work frequently in South Africa (Pretoria, Joburg, Capetown, Durban, Port Elizabeth) and used to live on Biltong.
The closest thing I've found is from a farm in S. Carolina run by South Africans, they sell their Biltong on Amazon, it's quite good if you are looking for a fix. I think they also have good droewors.
People do need something to live for and meaning. And that meaning can't come just from working and making money and buying shit.
Not saying you have to turn to god though either. You should read the book

Check out OpenGPS Tracker. It's really basic, but gets the job done if you're just interested in monitoring your times and distances.
Oddly, one of my college French professors was also an author on Virginia Indians.

Don't think you are a weirdo - just wish we could help. Hang on, because life will get better. Could a visit to talk to a food bank be in order? That is why they exist.

Not sure if it's the time of day I ride, or that a cyclist is such a rarity here in Chester, but I can at least say that drivers have been very courteous to me when I've been riding. Usually I'm given at least 3 feet, and many time drivers will get in the other lane completely, even when there's a dedicated bike lane. I also ride around brandermill/woodlake from time to time and I've never had an incident there either. That said, I bought two Chinese GoPros and mounts for around $180 just in case something does happen. Admittedly I don't ride with them as much as I'd like, but I feel like if I was commuting, and not just riding for recreation I'd use them more.
When I taught Earth Science, I told my students that being a meteorologist was the perfect job--you get to use millions of dollars worth of computers, and nobody expects you to right!
I generally trust AccuWeather more than most others.
Selling brand new rachio 3 smart sprinkler controller for $160
Not op, but I recently bought and used this. You can't really see out of it because of the design, but that means people also can't see inside. And it makes nice little rainbows inside the house in the late afternoon, which is really nice. It lets me open my blinds and have plenty of light coming in without feeling like everyone is watching me. It was easy to cut to size with a razor blade and easy to install. I haven't tried removing it yet, but I don't see why it would be difficult. The material itself isn't sticky or anything, just kind of staticky. You just spray water (I actually used window cleaner) and slap it on. I recommend.

lately I've been doing the Moscow mule thing, I love ginger but can't handle pop/sweet drinks, so instead of ginger beer I order this ginger fire syrup off amazon:
And I'll use vodka, fizzy water (usually the lime flavoured ones - no sugar or sugar substitute, I like Dasani as they are small and thus you can use them in multiple drinks and they don't go flat like full size), sliced lime and just a teaspoon of the ginger syrup, so you get the ginger kick but not all the sugar.
You just brought back memories of me playing KidCad...found it on Amazon and I'm loving the fairly recent reviews complaining about a game I played in the 90's.
It was honestly not great back then...I'm pretty sure there was a bug when you rotated the view that caused things that were painstakingly lined up to get out of whack. Still a lot of fun though.
Finally ordered a Richmond flag for my house. I ended up purchasing through the Library of Virginia since it looked like the best quality, but since I have Amazon Prime I had to take a look at the options I had on there.
Turns out that our flag does not translate to patch form very well.
Edit: I also noticed that the Boy Scouts were out selling popcorn at Lowes. Since I was in Boy Scouts at one point, on one hand I feel like maybe I ought to purchase some because I know how few people actually buy the stuff and on the other hand I wonder if maybe the difficulties in selling popcorn helped me grow into the person I am today.
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 for sale. I bought it for my wife for her birthday back in March, and it has seen light indoor use, never even taken out of the house!
This model is on the higher end of the budget to mid range option for laptops. It comes with a 15.6" 1080p touchscreen, 7th Generation Intel Kaby Lake Core i7 processor (7500U), 8GB of DDR4 that is expandable, and a CD/DVD drive, 802.11AC wifi built in. It is pretty light for a full featured laptop.
The model # is i5567-3656GRY. It is a retail only model, so the model doesn't really equate to anything sold on Dell's website or Amazon.
Here's some links for reference: Dell.com
It came with a 500GB sata laptop hard drive. I've removed that drive and upgraded it with a Samsung Evo 850 250GB SSD, which is on the top end of SSD's (3D Vnand). Boot up times and software installation times are really quick. I have updated Windows 10 to the latest version (1709 fall creator's update).
If you are looking for a cheap, high performance laptop that is easy to use and user serviceable/upgradeable, this is right up your alley. The build quality on this laptop is quite a bit ahead of what you with find with HP and Lenovo laptops in the same price category.
Aking $450, PM me if you are interested in checking it out/buying.
Is anyone here a Venture Bros fan? I find myself with two copies of the Go Team Venture! art book and I don't need both. It goes for about $27 on Amazon, I'm happy to let the shrink wrapped copy I have go for $20.
Check out Chincoteague. I love it there. You can eat at Bill's and stay at Refuge Inn. Refuge Inn is closest to Assateague Island. I love Assateague because you can beach it up without a lot of development in the way. Also take a boat tour around the island; there are various companies that offer them. It's a great way to see wildlife and get cool views of the lighthouse and such.
Looking at Google Maps, I don't think canal they would need to dig to connect Haxall and Kanahwa would need to go uphill along 5th. Link.
You can zoom in for a better view, but I left it like that because the canal bed seemed more obvious from that perspective. The section along 5th St. that they would need to dig through seems pretty flat, even if the street itself is at an incline.
My question is why should we connect them? I'm all for preserving the canal bed as it is, but Haxall and Kanawha were never connected at that point. I found an old map that shows the original runs of both canals (Haxall in red). I kind of feel digging a new canal to connect them would sort of be distorting history.
I've been taking my mountain bike to Henricus Park and riding the trails. You might come across someone every now and then but the paths are wide enough that you can still keep your distance.
Go on eBay and find yourself a CP/M, something like this. I'm pretty sure the Fallout terminals are modeled on those.
As for 3D printing the case (I'm assuming that's what you mean), hooooooooo boy. That's a BIG build.
There are quite a few jobs on indeed that are just looking for a degree. Maybe you'd enjoy one of these? Couple of office positions on the first page.
Wikimapia puts that still in Lakeside, so I'll allow it.
I don't have that, but have you looked at Duolingo?
There are also some other phone apps that help you practice.
edit: /u/mylittleponyhell there are enough differences in Spanish from Spain and Latin American Spanish that if you have a choice in the lesson format, choose Spain Spanish for your purposes.

All is seemingly well at this point.
Hey Peter Pan - totally down for this. Love some PS for Azure & O365 management, automation, etc. I'll create a Meetup.com group if you want and send you an invite. We can meet quarterly to share our experience in the field, cool new stuff, and maybe even start a GIT repository. What do you think? Also, have you checked out the UsefulScripts sub?

There are some great trails for running. This a 6 mile loop along the river. Generally not very stabby.
No, we were pretty much just riding some roads around Bonair/Midlothian. Here's the map on strava. We took a break in the middle to refuel, but overall riding time was just shy of 3 hours.
I think the point ~~landbeaver~~ /u/land_beaver was trying to make is that ya'll is not a proper contraction. It's no different than when people write "definately". Just because it's out there doesn't mean it's correct.
http://writingexplained.org/yall-or-ya-ll-difference
Merriam's got y'all but not ya'll.
Grammatically speaking ya'll doesn't make sense. There's no "a" in "you" to put the apostrophe after the "a".
edit: paged the wrong land beaver. This is just like when we page the wrong moose.

But just be smart & follow your gut.
Gee, sounds like you need a different restaurant job - granted I have never worked at a restaurant HERE but generally my experiences in such work generated very good friends. But anyway. Say you want some non-job friends. What are your personal interests? Take some new classes (like art classes or something) at the Visual Arts center or Studio two Three. Or check out some meetups through r/rva or meetup.com. just start doing things you like to do regularly and going out more. Even making a coffee shop visit a daily practice can help broaden your network.

Do you play board games? There is a guy here that hosts regular game nights.
Do you read books? There is an /r/rva book club meeting tomorrow night.

Plan 9 is good, but if you want a decent selection...real talk go to Amazon. Especially if you already have one that's on its last legs, I wouldn't buy used, I feel like you'd just be buying your way into the same problem.
Here is a good option within your price range. You may be able to pick this model up at Plan 9, I feel like I've seen AT turntables in there before, but I've never looked hard enough to know which models.

Kava is really nasty to drink IMO, also it makes your mouth and throat numb which feels weird. I've bought it online in a few forms, the preparation for the drink is time consuming, and then you gotta stomach drinking a good amount of dirt-tasting liquid. You can buy pure kavalactone (the psychoactive ingredient in kava) extract off amazon, here's one I think I tried and was satisfied with but I would check reviews, this was a few years ago.
I know you're probably looking for the social aspect of the bar, I would probably check one out if there was one around, maybe they can make it taste better.

Hey! I've been making booch for about a year now, and I love it! I would say it's very relaxed. I was nervous starting as well, because my boyfriend does homebrewing and that is a very extensive process.
I got my first scoby from Final Gravity in Lakeside (attached to Original Gravity) and followed the instructions on a small sheet of paper they provide! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions! Or want a free scoby! I have a very large mother.
Buttwipes or baby wipes can be turned into antibacterial wipes quickly and easily. Gallon of alcohol here.
I buy these on Amazon. I think they’ve gone up in price, but we’ll worth it. They literally fill up with those nasty pests. If you can’t wait for shipping, I believe they’re sold at Lowe’s in smaller quantities. They’re smelly, even before you add water, so keep them in the box. I tie them up away from areas of the yard I usually hang out.
Came here to say it's pretty easy to do and that soldering kits are 12 bucks on Amazon, but somebody already posted basically the same thing :-)
Here's a good article that explains better than I would:
If you're not looking to stream a bunch of video or do other bandwidth-heavy activities, you'd probably be fine with a free VPN, especially if you just want to occasionally check or surf the web from a sketchy wifi connection. I've used TunnelBear before and really liked it. Here's a list:

You could also have looked at the links I provided which lead you to studies like this and this which refutes your study. A cursory glance of the study you posted shows that they were studying old data from time periods when car safety was downright awful. With advancements in car safety today I highly doubt that inspections play a significant role in preventing fatalities.
Sort of.

If I had to do it again, I'd get some lights and leave at 4 am so we could be on our way back by 7 am!
Also Shirley's Burnt Biscuit was the best doughnut I've ever had. Made all the more better as they were baked by Shirley who was ~90 years old it seemed (prob much younger but that weather ages a person), and the fact that I was exhausted from hiking the ridge at Big Bend.
Based on the inconsistent reviews, Massad seems dated more than anything.

I have one I made for $3 in parts and 30 minutes of work; picks up 19 channels beautifully. This design. That + Netflix + Amazon + HBOGo is plenty to watch and is waaaaaay cheaper than the full package.
Google Hanover Ave Halloween and look at the photos and videos. Certainly worth checking out - the Pirate Ship alone - IMHO is worth the trip.

Hey man, I have talked to you before. My roommates' band still needs a solid drummer. We had one fill in, but we'd like a permanent guy for the position.
I just booked them 2 shows at The Camel for the first week of Nov. The first one is with Sainthood Reps (Tooth & Nail - listen [here])(http://sainthoodreps.com/) and other with a good amount of well known touring bands set up by one of my friends in CONDITIONS and myself.
Since I've talked to you we have put some new songs up and they are currently writing and recording more. Hoping to have 2 done within the next few weeks. Go listen, if you like it, PM me.

Saturday, go see Les La Britannica for some genuine tongue in cheek white rap. The girl sounds like Nicky Minaj but was doing it first. (seriously they're fun) https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=256378471067504

Unfortunately that model doesn't have a fully-adjustable counterbalance and tone-arm height adjustment. On the back of the tone-arm, make sure the tracking force is set to 1.25. Be sure that the anti-skate wheel is also set to this number. If that doesn't work, you can try going lighter on each. (Source: User Manual)
Beyond that, which most likely won't help, you might need a new stylus (needle). These are pretty cheap for this model, but make sure it matches the cartridge (the thing that houses the needle) in case the previous owner changed it out from the factory model.
