X-men Grand Design. Kinda goes over the history of the X-men. Could probably be the quickest way to get caught up on the comic history. It's getting really good reviews too. Amazon link
X-Men The Dark Phoenix Saga. It is self contained but old. However it is the best Phoenix story!
https://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Dark-Phoenix-Saga-Omnibus/dp/1302912127
Link gives you the whole story.
Ultimate X-Men was pretty good when it started, but it fell off for most people (quality wise) around 50 issues in. You'd be much better off spending your time reading from Mutant Massacre onward. Depending how far you want to go back, I'd start at either #189 or #199.
If you're looking for more guidance with reading the franchise, check out my reading guide: https://www.scribd.com/doc/285089632/Beginner-s-Guide-to-Reading-X-Men
Let's get one thing straight: The Inhumans are NOT replacing the X-Men. When all of the new titles are released, X-Men will have SIX ongoing monthly titles and a miniseries. The X-Men aren't going anywhere.
As far as what to read, check out this guide I made a while back: https://www.scribd.com/doc/285089632/Beginner-s-Guide-to-Reading-X-Men
It goes through all the eras of X-Men, and gives you plenty of starting points to choose from (and also optional reading under each section).
Hope that helps!
OK dude, let me clue you in. There are some 1 star reviews there because it seems like Amazon fucked up with their descriptions and people were selling the basic Dark Phoenix (129-137) as the Deluxe Hard Cover with extra issues in it, so people were rightfully pissed when they got the wrong one.
The really expensive one is the Deluxe edition. You don't need that. Get the cheap paperback for $15 New.
Ignore the fuckup in Amazon's rating and description system. It is 5 Fucking Stars.
Get Proteus too, because it is the Intro to Dark Phoenix: https://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Proteus-Marvel-Premiere-Classic/dp/0785137688/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1501041240&sr=1-1&keywords=proteus+x-men --- not sure why it's so expensive, might be out of print right now.
It's the clapping hands emoji they can look differently on different platforms, I suppose.
I think there should be comics to appeal to everyone: boys, girl, kids, teens, adults. I also think more adult-oriented storylines is exactly what we could use. If it were me, I'd go beyond bitchin', which I think is rather tame. New X-Men is my favorite run, because Morrison's dialogue kind of appealed to everyone without ever feeling like he was holding back or going too far.
X-Men First Class doesn't really have "important" stories. They're really just meant to be fun all-ages aventures. If you think you've read enough then it's time to move on.
Check out my X-Men reading guide if you're ready to move on: https://www.scribd.com/doc/285089632/Beginner-s-Guide-to-Reading-X-Men
It's not a bad story, but it's not a necessary X-Men story and doesn't look like it's going to matter at all in the grand scheme of things. I'm only picking it up because I'm building a full Krakoa-era run. Vita's also writing New Mutants, and I like that a lot better.
And as far as the Gala goes, it looks like the red-highlighted issues from the back of the book are all you really need, because they're the only ones collected in the mass trade of the Gala (there'll also be a hardcover of the whole thing, for those who want it).
https://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Hellfire-Gala-Jonathan-Hickman/dp/1302931156
I know you asked for comics, but there's a novelization called "Gifted" that focuses on Kitty Pryde that I really liked. (If your wife hates Emma, she would definitely like the way Kitty is constantly chastising her). It's a fun and short read. Here's an Amazon link:
https://www.amazon.com/Astonishing-X-Men-Gifted-Prose-Novel/dp/0785165150
Out of curiosity... Have you ever read any X-Men comics before?
You are seriously in the minority here. DoFP is justifiably considered a classic. IGN ranks it the 7th best X-Men story ever. (http://www.ign.com/articles/2011/06/03/the-25-greatest-x-men-stories?page=4)
If you're looking for some guidance through modern X-Men, check out my reading guide: https://www.scribd.com/doc/285089632/Beginner-s-Guide-to-Reading-X-Men
If you've already read Grant Morrison's New X-Men, jump down to the Astonishing X-Men section, or check out some of the optional reading under sections you've already read.
The 1992 Marvel Masterpiece set is uploaded here.
I have the 1993 set scanned, this Rogue is from the 1993 set, but I haven't uploaded it anywhere. I might do it this weekend if I have time. Which I should since we can't really go anywhere.
The story arc was "Fatal Attractions."
Read his series by Duane Swierczynski & Ariel Olivetti -- Cable.
It happens in the same timeline you just read but it covers the time that Cable spent raising Hope. It's one of my favorites of all damn time.
Nope, pretty much all X-Men cards from the '90s are pretty much worthless. You can buy the entire set of pretty much every year for less than $20. This one happens to be my favorite.
I want a Capcom style fighting game. But not Marvel vs. Capcom or X-Men vs. Street Fighter. Just all X-Men characters in their early '90s costumes. Give me this roster.
I'm really struggling to figure out what Rogue's design is trying to convey. What are the green parts? 30 seconds of interneting got me here: http://hubpages.com/hub/Rogue-Costume-History#slide7329858 but I don't think I'm any closer to the answer.
Yeah I'm way into the Cyclops, Kitty Pryde and Gambit images but the Colossus one is cool! I stole the photos but I used Dream Scope to create them. Really cool websites that allows a lot of different designs!
Also try your local or closest LCS. They would be more than willing to try and get you a copy, and who knows, they might even have collected singles for you
By the way, if your Omega Sentinel feels lonely, PoX Nimrod is already available with Psylocke and Fantomex as an Amazon exclusive.
In my experience they weren't very successful so they're usually pretty easy to find at cheap price. Try /r/comicswap. That's my favorite place to buy used comics. It also looks like there are a few cheap copies on Amazon
Hi there. It's great that you are getting into the comics. I would highly recommend the 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix Saga' trade paperback which I feel is the best X-Men story. You can find it online at Amazon, Book Depository etc. The "Epic Collections" are a cheap way to get a stack of comics. The book "X-Men Epic Collection: Second Genesis" comes out in April 2017 and begins Chris Claremont's iconic run.
Oops my bad Vignettes is actually really cheap on Amazon! It's only got a couple Nightcrawler stories but they're good, and the rest is good too.
Don't worry about the comics being old. They are classics.
This version with Scott holding Jean is the one to get --- it includes 138 and some extra stories, and it's cheaper right now on Amazon too.
If you have some extra cash I highly recommend Proteus, which is the prologue to Dark Phoenix and a really classic story too. It will help you understand what's going on in Dark Phoenix -- it happens right before.
If you have $50 to blow the most complete collection will be * Marvel Masterworks: The Uncanny X-Men Volume 4 & 5.*
> I know you asked for comics, but there's a novelization called "Gifted" that focuses on Kitty Pryde that I really liked. That's perfect too! Thank you!
Claremont and Byrne? According to the Amazon listing it collects X-Men 129-138, Classic X-Men 43, Bizarre Adventures (1st Story), and Phoenix The Untold Story.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0785164219/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_yvVcDb01FWC5J
The actual issues from the '90s are fairly cheap because they sold so many copies back then. You could get X-Men #1 by Jim Lee, which is arguably the most iconic image in X-Men history. You could get the four individual covers and buy four frames that can hold a comic book. It's missing Jubilee and Bishop, but the rest of the '90s X-Men are there.
You can also search for "90s X-Men" on deviantart. If you see an artist who's style you like, you can contact them about doing commissions
And third, there's always actual X-Men posters from the '90s. You can search ebay and find a few of them for fairly cheap still in good quality
Messiah Complex is the first of the trilogy, followed by Messiah War, and concluded in Second Coming. Messiah War is not as good as the other two, but I read all three for the sake of completion. But it's fine to skip Messiah War. Second Coming was published in 2010.
Here is the Amazon link just to show you what the trade paper back looks like: https://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Second-Coming-Christopher-Yost/dp/0785157050
Damn son, how long did that take you to collect?
This might work as a nice bookends.
Edit: Damn..just saw the price...nevermind
Well, there is the recommended reading in the side bar if you just want to read most of the major arcs you can follow that. If you are looking to actully buy the comics Essential X-Men is the most cost efficient method. It has all the stories but, they are printed in B&W to save you and them money. Or you could just skip to Grant Morrison's New X-Men, run which is really the start of the modern X-Men, then Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men, followed by House of M, and then Uncanny X-Men because the main book. Personally, when I decided to start reading the comics more regularly I started with Morrison and have no regrets about the decision.
I would suggest all new x-men and the current run on uncanny, as it's reasonably simple, but it's quite cyclops-centric (even though I really enjoy it).
Maybe try Astonishing X-men by Joss Whedon. Thats pretty simple, and though he Cyclops does feature heavily the team dynamic is balanced, so you don't get too much of one character.
If you want really easy to follow classic stuff try early era Chris Claremont stuff.
This has 3 of the best story arcs all in one beautiful book.
I love you.
Oregon, asap, and $500 plus whatever shipping would be (unless your close by) Here is a link to my FB marketplace listing: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/706467530211320/
The TPB includes Marauders, X-Men, Planet-Sized X-Men, and SWORD.
I’m glad you were able to find out the news about X-Treme’s return, one way or another! The original creative team from the early 2000s of Chris Claremont and Salvador Larroca are returning for a 6 issue miniseries with the same name next month, around the same time Marvel is releasing an omnibus of the original series’ run for the first time ever.
There's a trade called X-Me Legion: Shadow King Rising that details the early muir island stuff.
His original X-Treme X-men run has a new omnibus that is coming out in September - after years and years of being out of print - so this makes sense. Especially since Claremont (and some fans, myself included) has always had a soft spot for this run.
i got a flocked version of bobby https://www.amazon.com/Funko-POP-Marvel-Flocked-Exclusive/dp/B082RWXLHX when it was not that expensive
I think HoX/PoX, Inferno, Way of X bring huge amounts of plot context to Legion of X, but no you won't be lost starting here. I'm hard pressed recommending doing so tho.
For Legion himself, Spurrier's Xmen Legacy run will give the biggest emotional payoff, then Way of X as reading before hand. I also love looking for reasons to recommend the omnibus - X-Men Legacy: Legion Omnibus https://www.amazon.com/dp/1302903926/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_RGXTJKTAJ4DZBP2SK619 - because I'd argue it's own of the best xmen arcs of all time. All the current stuff builds off of that.
If you want super duper extra credit I guess you could do Legion's Quest? Honestly it mostly felt like a setup for Age of Apocalypse. Not much character driven story there for Legion, especially when compared to above.
Im not sure what your budget or interst level is, but I HIGHLY recommend this book: https://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Chris-Claremont-Omnibus-Vol/dp/1302927140/ref=sr\_1\_1?crid=1ZHMG9UOZS7ZF&keywords=jim+lee+omnibus&qid=1652806568&sprefix=jim+lee+omnibus%2Caps%2C81&sr=8-1
X-Men Epic Collection: I, Magneto - This collection includes Uncanny X-Men #150, which first introduces Magneto's past as a holocaust survivor. It's really good. The other issues are less Magneto focused but still worth reading.
So looked over the adamantium collection, and it’s not bad. It’s kind of a greatest hits but it jumps around 40 years worth of stories and a lot of them have lead up/follow up issues that are missing. So for that price too, you could probably get him a bunch of complete storylines. Not sure what your price limit is but seeing as the adamantium collection is between $200-400, you might try the following
Has the Brood Saga, The Frank Miller Wolverine, God Loves Man Kills, and others.
You could get both of those for a little over $100 and buy another collection for the price of the AC. However, if he likes rare and hard to fine stuff, it’s kind of a cool thing to have on the shelf. Good luck!
So he was pretty unhelpful and only remembers that “it had x-men characters on the front” lol 😡.
But I’m pretty confident about God Loves Man Kills! It seems like that was pretty popular at the time
But another question - would the Adamantium collection be something that an x-men/general comic/marvel fan would like??
https://www.amazon.com.au/X-Men-Adamantium-Collection-Stan-Lee/dp/0785154604/ref=nodl_
For those interested, this is collected in the X-Men: From The Ashes trade paperback (reprinted last year), an exceptional set of issues from Claremont's run, in no small part due to Paul Smith's art.
Dawn of X sprang from HoXPoX. It collects all the titles following it through over a dozen volumes.

Do you mean this right here for $130?
They have the trilogy collected as one huge book (like 900 pages).
May 22. In the future, you can always look up release dates on Comixology.
No? There's a confused "Morph?" when Morph is shot, Jean yells "AAH!" in her Cerebro helmet, that's all, at least in this episode. You can check it here: https://www.addic7ed.com/serie/X-Men/1/2/Night_of_the_Sentinels_%28Part_2%29
It looks like the best way at this point would be digitally, but if you want it in physical form it looks like Amazon has copies of the paperback and hardcover collections for the first book at least. It might be a run you eventually have to get used instead of new.

If you search Uncanny X-Force Remender on Amazon you should get every volume.
Here is a list of everything they've got. Seems like it's a lot of Volume 1's of different arcs, but there is still a lot there.
Starting from the very beginning is a bad choice and I know that sounds counterintuitive. The Silver Age stuff hasn't aged well and wasn't all that good to start. I would use this guide to find a good jumping on point
I would also suggest Jay and Miles X-Plain the X-Men a weekly podcast all about the ins, out, and retcons of the greatest superhero soap opera. This is a great resource to learn about the older stories without going through the trouble of reading all of them.
Good luck, I hope you survive the experience.
Not to mention how far away his chair is in that picture like he's ready to back away at any second. He's even giving Jean the ol' hover-hand like he's afraid to show affection in public.
Let's be real though, pre-00s Cyclops was probably the most vanilla of vanilla lovers. Like, one position missionary with the lights off only kind of a guy. And he probably cried afterwards.
I don't think Marvel Adventures actually has an Xmen comic but I do believe the Xmen first class comic series is all ages appropriate;
Yes that's the X-Treme X-Men run I mentioned. While it is a decent jumping on point it expects you to know somewhat about main cast already and doesn't really give as much Storm character development as his first run.
If you are looking at omnibus, I'd pick up Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Vol. 1 and go forward if you like it. It is getting reprinted within the next month or two so don't pay over cover price. Everything is delayed so I don't know the date, but CGN says 12/21.
Sorry, the resolution isn't as high as I thought. Here it is.
I did upload all the Cyclops cards I had, some of them are higher resolution. The gallery's here
I thought they would go with the updated designs that have been popping up on merchandise. But I'm glad they're sticking to the classic Jim Lee outfits.
I do appreciate that non-designers use different lingo to communicate things that they don't have a bunch of knowledge on. Knowing the user is the key to any form of communicative design! If any of my comments came off as hurtful I apologize, because I certainly did not mean for them to interpreted that way. I was only pointing out when that logotype first appeared, because it seemed to me that you were under the impression that it wasn't from the 60's, that's all. I didn't mean any harm!
EDIT: For the sake of answering OP's question- I did some looking, but I haven't been able to find any fan-made fonts out there that have the same three-dimensional qualities like the X-Men logotype. I'm imagining he or she wants that style, but wants to use different words. The logotype was more than likely designed by hand, but that effect can be emulated if you have access to any software like Photoshop. If not (I think we all know how expensive some of that stuff can be) there's a free software called [https://www.gimp.org/](Gimp) that should work just fine. A poster named SexyPoro posted a link below to a study they did to emulate the X-Men logotype which looks pretty good and they included some brief instructions as well. As far as choosing a similar font goes, look for something with "condensed" in the name. Those fonts are typically taller, like the type in "X-Men". Arial Condensed may work if you beef it up with some boldness. Hopefully that helps!
Have you read the Marvel UK Captain Britain issues? You might like Captain Britain TPB (Before Excalibur...).
They recently produced a one copy version of all of it
X-Men: Age Of Apocalypse Omnibus (X-Men: The Age of Apocalypse) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1302930028/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_GJB8EBWDH8ZVFSB83RT0
Thanks, I am thinking of buying it. If you know about it, do you recommend this one or the previous book?

It's not hard to make yourself. The only thing I really customized was painting the eyes brown. And I used a shade of brown that was too light, so I don't even think I did a good job. But the body is Moira McTaggert's, which you can get for about $20. The Psylocke figure is going to cost you more, though. That's an older figure and sells for about $60 on ebay.
I said what I said.
By the way, according to The Art and Making of the Animated Series, their ages on the show were:
Professor X: mid-fifties
Cyclops: 26 years old
Wolverine: Looks to be in his thirties, but actually was born in 1900
Storm: Doesn't list an age
Rogue: mid-twenties
Gambit: mid-twenties
Beast: late-twenties
Jubilee: 13
Jean Grey: mid-twenties
X-men the Essential guide?
https://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Essential-Guide-John-Mosby/dp/1852833947
A book like this would be super out of date (and probably print) by now however.
There was a third type of chase cards called Sinister Observations. Back in a time before internet commerce, completing the full set was a real challenge.
I think that’s why I didn’t have a good time reading the X-Men comics that I have. I did not read any of the other stuff. Below is the Volume I tried out.
I primarily picked up that volume because I wanted to see what X-Men are now in the modern comics and since the comics I read were a soft reboot so to speak, it would be a good place to jump back in.
I actually read that recommendation from some website but I don’t know if it was particularly good advice.
This is the Hickman I read and didn’t like.
I am a Captain Marvel fan and keep up on those. But you are correct, Astonishing X-Men sounds like are up my alley.
Thanks!
Start with the 90s cartoon like me :) Then my first comic bought was xmen index 5. I bought it because i liked the cover art and didnt bother looking inside until later to discover it wasnt a comic. I did include lots of info about other xmen issue, deprecated now with the internet. My next comic was Wolverine #83. Loved it. Was addicted until in my opinion the quality turned to shit. Also became interested in other things (girls). Periodically i will buy an old issue to add to the collection. Almost have every Wolverine series issue between 1 and 100. Several Xmen issues too. To me, the 80s and 90s issues are the best. Im biased due to my age though.
You misunderstand, I mean stuff like this made for the kitchen which is a terrible idea.
https://www.amazon.com/Grillaholics-Meat-Claws-Accessories-Dishwasher/dp/B00YBQST2U
What you made is a prop, and it gets props.
It did, just out of print probably due to low sales. You gotta remember, Dark Phoenix and DOFP are arguably two of the biggest X stories of all time and there's a ton of arcs that just aren't popular enough to stay in print perpetually. https://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Brood-Saga-Part-1/dp/0812544056
It is indeed a statue. It costs a little under $45 on Amazon. It's actually a variant of this original black one, which is a bit cheaper, but white is my favorite color, so I had to have it. The same company also offers some other X-Men statues, and I think other Marvel characters as well.
I was actually just looking for an X-Men shirt to buy. Here's a couple more on Amazon with the Animated Series team:
https://www.amazon.com/Marvel-X-Men-Animated-Premium-T-Shirt/dp/B07VXSF1HD/
https://www.amazon.com/Marvel-X-Men-Wolverine-Graphic-T-Shirt/dp/B07PSPCC29/
Though I went this with this one:
ttps://www.amazon.com/Marvel-X-Men-Vintage-Graphic-T-Shirt/dp/B07JKJXBG1
Give me the Blue team plus Magneto with Jim Lee's art, you can take my money.
List price of $60 and release date in November.
She's neither Catseye nor Tarot. In fact, the artist probably never reads comics. This card is part of the Modern Witch Tarot Deck and has nothing to do with Marvel.
But on Tarot matters, I prefer to reference the King James Bible of tarot - the Rider-Waite Tarot Deck, which depicts Ten of Swords as this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rider-Waite_tarot_deck#/media/File:Swords10.jpg
Most newer tarot decks are derived from this grand daddy of tarot decks.
Funny enough, I was just re-reading the old, old, old Captain Britains. I had the original comics, long gone, but the reprint book I was reading last night is £100 now! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Captain-Britain-Alan-Moore/dp/0785108556/ref=sr_1_1?crid=33BDZEDDJC8T8&dchild=1&keywords=alan+moore+captain+britain&qid=1601116478&sprefix=Alan+moore+ca%2Caps%2C227&sr=8-1
Bit if you are talking about the original Excalibur series, it’s not essential reading (but obviously more fun if you do know who the cast are).
Yeah I know...i actually have all of them..I just meant it wasn’t part of the the red set so they still need two m..technically ....the red one( or cover set C has the 50 year anniversary logo )that is why on the cover C of wolverine and cyclops and iceman.. only one of wolverine’s claws are popped because Jim Lee said he didn’t want to have wolverine stabbing cap in the face... inversely cover E wolverine had both claws popped and no 50 year anniversary logo.
I grabbed the anime X-Men and Wolverine series off Amazon not too long ago. Finally started watching. Have you seen these? I have only seen the first 2 episodes, or so, of X-Men. I started falling asleep last night, so I turned it off. Would love to discuss, once I'm done.
If you haven't seen them.
X-Men - half off, right now, too.
I like this, though it's not strictly X-Men.
This comic book made me feel sick the first time I read it, it was so graphic and torturous.
This and Jason Aarons arc <strong>Insane on the Brain</strong> where Wolverine gets kidnapped and robbed of his mind stick out to me as when Wolverine is completely in the power of the villain and has no way of fighting back and comes out damaged from it.
There are some good trades out there for this.
Trade with both the Gambit and Rouge minis that are origin stories and must reads for Gambit fans: https://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Gambit-Rogue-Howard-Mackie/dp/1302902482/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1517936919&sr=8-3&keywords=Gambit
The trial of Gambit. Big thing in the 90's after AoA. https://www.amazon.com/X-Men-Trial-Gambit-Scott-Lobdell/dp/1302900706/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1517936919&sr=8-11&keywords=Gambit
Very first appearance in Uncanny X-Men (1963) #265-267. They are part of a trade called Gambit classics that are those issues + Gambit mini vol1 (The same one that's in Gambit and Rouge TPB)
There is a 1997 mini that I never read....
The 2012 series that starts with "Once a Thief" is something I really enjoy and it really shows his inner conflict with being a good guy, but trying to stick to his roots in the Thieving world.
I'll check it out. I like Fabian's work on Deadpool.
I need to revise my previous statement. The Gambit story I'm familiar with is actually in Rogue where he goes back to La. and confronts Bella. It wasn't his solo story, but his origin story. Still, it was pretty boring. Not to mention most of his stories involve some kind of love triangle.
There was the team-up with Wolverine when the fought Arcade which was ok but I wouldn't want to sit through a feature-length version. I don't know, he's always felt like a supporting character wihout a proper foil. I mean, Rogue has Ms. Marvel; Storm has Shadow King...almost everyone in those books has a foil except Gambit.
As of now, the only Gambit story I'd really want to see is his version of the Mutant Massacre. It would be cool if they adapted it with the Trial of Gambit as the narrative frame. I'd just be surprised if they were willing to tackle that content.
Also, I don't think C.W. was garbage. I don't think it was very good, but garbge is a bit of an embellishment.
This one:
Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender: The Complete Collection Volume 1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/0785188231/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Ap6oAbCBMVHG0
There’s a vol 2 that’s also pretty awesome but I like vol 1 e best. No volume 3
If you like to read some comics that are akin to the movie series, you should probably read <em>Ultimate X-Men</em>
I believe his change to a furry beast takes place in Amazing Adventures vol. 2 #11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beast_(comics)#Furry_change_and_team_trading -- You can buy that comic in X-Men: Mutations.
He was in the original 1963 X-Men. Then he left and became an Avenger. Then he joined X-Factor.
Look at the page count & descriptions
First link -- 272 pages. Actually doesn't seem to have a description, but I'm sure it has all the X-Men stuff.
Second link-- 432 pages. Collecting: Uncanny X-Men (1963) 220-227, Incredible Hulk (1968) 340, New Mutants (1983) 55-61.
Get the second one cuz it's cheaper and has more pages and it has Incredible Hulk 340 which is a cool fight between Hulk & Wolverine.
as it is on amazon all of your prices seem to be the exact same as Amazon, why is that?
Thanks for the info! I ended up finding a panel that specifically referenced her as DARPA DD in UXM #158.
Just so I'm clear - the Heroic Age #1 you're referring to is this, right? I didn't see any Mystique appearance in that one at all.
Doesn't New Mutant Classic 2 end with issue 17? This collection has issues 18-20.
The Uncanny X-Men Omnibus Volume 1. Vol 1 is technically not in production anymore, so you won't be able to find it priced fairly on amazon. You should be able to find a decent price on ebay, or other book sites (book depository, abebooks), though.
The omnibus includes the first 40ish issues of Chris Claremont's defining run on Uncanny X-men.
ok then I recommend Infamous, Reversals, Shadow Games and Last Days. This collection shows an older Magneto with reduced power; much like a normal human can't run as fast or lift as much weight as they age, Magneto is no longer in peak "shape" with regards to his powers.
On top of that wrinkle, it does a much better job than the movies of having Magneto straddle the line between good and evil - he plays the anti-hero championing mutant rights through vengeance and vigilantism. While we can understand his motivations, his actions are as dark and gruesome as ever, making it tough to fully accept.
