Or if you want a little more power: Bulk Rename (or if you don't like BR, check out some similar programs).
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
It's kind of (super) advanced, but it shows you all the changes you will be making in real-time, so you can play around with all the settings before you make any actual changes. Like I said though, it's super advanced, so it might be worth it to read through a tutorial or two before you start using it.
>I sometimes think they do this deliberately to force us to resort to cloud storage, which I just don't want to do.
It's exactly what they want. They know most people don't care to backup and organize like this, so they're going to cater to searching and using their AI to find the photos you want.
It's even worse on iOS, because you have no control over the file names and it's always just IMG_### in sequential order.
The windows program Bulk Rename Utility has been a huge help for this. Allows for mass renaming of files using patterns and rules. It can read the photo meta data so I rename them based on the date taken.
people may also find bulk renamer to be useful, not for TV and movies, more of a general tool.
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php
it allows mass regex and many other things, useful when you have a TV show that is not named correctly for automatic tools to match
Not movie filename specific, but I've found Bulk Rename Utility to be quite useful. It might work for you if you have specific characters (say, a hyphen) separating the different parts of the filename.
From the website: Bulk Rename Utility is a free file renaming software for Windows. Bulk Rename Utility allows you to easily rename files and entire folders based upon extremely flexible criteria.
I dont think you would want to use wine to run Rufus, that might be a bit beyond wines abilities, since rufus needs root access (i imagine) to directly write to a /dev/DEVICE.
wine basics..
Install wine.
Find an app you want to install in wine - One i commonly use is 'bulk rename utility' because I know how to use it. Download its installer.
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php
or via the command line..
wget http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Downloads/BRU_setup.exe
cd to the location where the downloaded exe is at. tell wine to run it..
cd /home/bubba/Downloads wine BRU_setup.exe
CaSe MaTtErs!
This should start the exe, and launch the gui/installer for it.. a few clicks of ok/next and it should install a menu item in your linux menus, and/or add an icon to the desktop.
Click the icon Run it as you do any other linux program.
If you want to run it via the command line, cd to where the wine program installs stuff ( ~/.wine/c_drive/Program Files ) (i think is the default) and use 'wine whatever.exe'
Well thats the basics.. There are front ends to make things 'nicer'
Good Luck.
I find that just 'double clicking an .exe' you downloaded - often fails, and wine will be showing some error messages to the 'standard output' that you do not see.. this is why i normally install things with wine via the cli, to see any potential error messages.
Engineers come up with stuff like this.
And that's OK with me! But your average user can barely fill out a 1040EZ much less understand bulk rename utility's workflow.
I use ffmpeg to do 1,2,3, and 5 of what you're doing. Most video editing tools use ffmpeg as their base code and then build a gui around it. It's a Command Line tool so there is a learning curve involved. It can do so much more though than all of those programs combined.
I use bulk renamer for renaming the shows.
This is the utility that I personally use. Just select the files and you're off. The interface looks REALLY intimidating, but don't worry--it's actually pretty simple once you stop freaking out (assuming you're like me :P ) and look at each box. For your example, for your request all you'd need to do is edit box 5, "Remove", to have the "First n" box be "6". It will show you in the top-right window what the new file/folder name will be (in green), then it actually applies the change when you hit the big button in the bottom-right.
The GUI does support recursion if you check the "Subfolders" option in the "Selection" box (#12). There's also a command-line utility from the same people, but I've never used it.
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Screenshots.php has worked really well for me. Does name appending, sequential numbering, string pre/appending to file names, fairly sure it can even do regex replacement on filenames too.
I found a program called Bulk Rename Utility a few weeks ago, a godsend really.
You can get it here: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php
The interface looks a little complicated at first, but you'll mostly just use one part of it, select the relevant files, then click "Rename" at the bottom right.
Edit: Just looked at the screenshot and it looks like every file has a unique name. I usually use Bulk Rename Utility for changing how a group of files are shown. Like adding the name of the show to the start of the file name for every episode. Doesn't seem like this would be as useful in your situation.
I use Bulk Rename Utility and it seems to work well for me. It's entirely free and I use the portable (no-install) version of it.
The only issue I have is that I can't seem to edit files over the network, only my local machine. They might have fixed that in newer versions, but I've never checked.
I've used bulk rename utility and I think it should be able to do what you need, though it's easy to get overwhelmed by the options!
You'd need the files in order in some way already, then you select them all and hmm, I'd say use the prefix option and numbering option at least? you can play around with it and see what the end result will be before applying the rename. it can take some playing around with to do it manually but it gets the job done. Quick example of what you could do assuming you already have them in some order already.
This is my personal favorite renamer. It's pretty diverse and intimidating as far as simple renamers go, but damn it's rad.
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php
Note: You will probably have to be creative with wildcards, but it's totally doable
Download Bulk Rename Utility, learn a tiny bit of regexps, play around with it until the preview shows what you intend.
As neat as all the command-line solutions are, this way you can see a live preview of what you're about to do before you do it. That's damn useful.
And when you need to get serious about renaming files, whip this baby out. Bulk Rename Utility.
Check out the sexy GUI.
To maintain my naming structure, I use: Bulk Rename Utility
Sounds like you are doing what I recently went through - the realization that you need structure. Sadly, I went the meticulous route for structure (RoboCopy indexes and lot's of data shuffling). Once I had the structure though, the rename utility made for quick work of getting the rest in line.
the scraping, as far as i know, is really down to the scraper you're using.. i very much doubt you can change how it works because it relies on how the scraper source recognises the shows... To be honest i really don't understand why you would want them named that way but it would be very simple to write a vbs script or use http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk to rename your folders very quickly.
In the bottom right of the window there's a wrench and screwdriver, click on that, under "Extension" click on "Preserve". And the reason it says directories are missing is because you've moved the files from where they were when Filebot processed them. Go to %APPDATA%\Roaming\FileBot and open History.xml that will tell you exactly what the file was before and after. You should be able to recreate the folder structures and hit undo. If that doesn't work try a program like Bulk Rename Utility, that has a dedicated extension field, type the extension in there for the files you've selected.
If you prefer GUIs instead of command prompt you can also download Bulk Rename Utility. There are loads of settings but all you have to do is navigate to the folder with your files, then select them all (CTRL+A) and type jpg in the Extension section. Ignore everything else and hit Rename.
I had the same issue, so I downloaded the 4 GBA video snap packs in low quality from emumovies website and used a program called FuzzyRename to make sure the video snap filenames matched my rom names - the emumovies snaps are in no-intro format so if your romset is no-intro you should be safe.
I then used a program called Bulk Rename Utility on the exported folder to add "-video" at the end of every mp4 file (ex. gamename-video.mp4).
Once this was complete I used another program named Gengal which can add the video snaps to your already created gamelist.xml file. Within Gengal go to "tools" and select "suffix mode", then change "Video Folder" to match your current images folder (downloaded_images) and select the "Add - video" checkbox, then "generate gamelist.xml"
Seems like a lot of work, but the longest part was downloading the video snap packs which you can download with a free user account on emumovies. After these are downloaded its about 5 mins to get the rest setup.
You want Bulk Rename Utility.
Install it, run it, specify your directory and then adjust these settings:
Name (2) - Remove
Numbering (10) - Mode: Prefix (or suffix, doesn't matter in this case.)
All other defaults are fine for your case. You just need to change those two dropdown boxes.
Once you've done that, select all the files in the pane above. You will see a preview of what the filenames will look like before you click the Rename button at the bottom.
I use Filebot AMC, and it's fan-fucking-tastic, but it messes up specials on occasion. The best solution is to get the file name to match Plex's naming convention, eg. "Show SxxExx - Title.mkv"
>I have to rename possibly hundreds of files just so plex picks them up how its intended?
Use Bulk Rename Utility to quickly add "Show S*00*Exx - " to the front of the specials' filename, then cross check with TVDB to fill in the right episode number. Little bit of busy work but once your files are named right your done.
Ice will only grab the image if it can find a game that matches EXACTLY.
It will find 'Super Metroid' ... It won't find 'Super Metroid (USA)'
Remove all the extraneous tags from your files with software like Bulk Rename Utility and you should be good to go.
Bulk Rename Utility will do it for you. I use it very often.
Do not get overwhelmed by the GUI. It's very easy to use once you get a feel of it. Experiment with some dummy files before actually using it. Once you get a hang of it, you will not like any other application. It's very powerful.
I've used Bulk Rename Utility before. There are a lot of options but what you're trying to do should be simple.
Just use the 'Add' option, type in what you want to add in the Suffix box, highlight a couple files to confirm the 'New Name' matches what you want, then hit Rename.
You should also know that if you are renaming many files in a very similar fashion (ie a pattern like adding sequential numbers or spaces or dashes) that there is a freeware program called Bulk Rename Utility that will blow you away.
Also supports Regular Expressions and a host of shockingly intelligent options.
Don't know about a guide but here's the manual. I created a test environment in a separate folder and just fucked around with the settings in order to find out how everything works while going through the manual. Just start reading how the 14 different "renaming controls" work in the main window (pages from 4 to 10) and then check the ones you need and start experimenting.
It uses the old custom texture pack format. It isn't supported since version 4.0-5234 and has been completely removed in 5.0-6208. Someone else had the same problem with a different texture pack so I'm just gonna copy&paste my response here
> I downloaded the texture pack and it seems like its using the old custom texture format. Dolphin has stopped supporting it for a couple of years now. > > Texture packs in the old format only work with the Texture Cache Accuracy setting they were dumped in. So you need to test which one of the three works. > > Secondly old texture packs are region specific. Your resident evil texture pack is for the NTSC-U version of the game. If you have a different version you need to change the GameID in the filename of every texure file to match the gameID of your game. Programs like BulkRename should be helpful for that. > > Versions between 4.0-5234 and 5.0-6208 have a build in converter to convert textures in the old format to the new one. > > To activate it do the following > > * Navigate to C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Config. > > * Open the configuration file GFX.ini with a text editor. > > * Find the setting ConvertHiresTextures and set the value from False to True. > > Dolphin will now convert textures in the old format it loads in to the new format. But it will only load them in if the Texture Cache Accuracy and gameID match. And it will only load them in if the game actually needs it. So to convert the whole pack you need to play through the whole game with the converter enabled. >
Probably not what you're after, but Bulk Rename Utility will do this.
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
I don't think it can monitor a folder however.
But you can add many types of date format to a file and auto move.
And you can save settings, so on launch BRU always opens in the same folder with the same set of options.
Personally I love <em>Bulk Rename Utility</em>. The UI isn't all that pretty but it's incredibly powerful and the regex support makes it so easy to do complicated substitutions.
As for the application you're looking for, was it <em>Flexible Renamer</em>? Kind of matches your description. Seems like it hasn't been updated since 2011 but the website is still alive.
Bulk Rename Utility. Sono più che sicuro che possa aiutarti, anche se non so bene come. Sicuramente fare quello che vuoi tu è nelle potenzialità del programma, magari vedi nella documentazione.
È complicato come pochi programmi, però. Buona fortuna.
ive been using this for years , it simply names contents of the folder with the folder name and appends xxx numbers to the end starting with 001. simple batch renaming of files, if that simplifies things ?
FileBot is the one that being recommended the most on this r/Plex. It has a preset to handle Plex naming but I did not try it.
Bulk Rename Utility is a generic renaming utility. It can do regex, prefix, suffix, replace, numbering and etc. I use this because I also bulk rename things that are not Plex related.
I can help you.
Select All. Actions>Random Sort.
Set Rename parameters. (Using counter)
Click Rename.
EDIT: Of course try this out on a handful of files first. This program looks intimidating at first. But it is my favorite tool for managing filenames, and pretty handy once you get the hang of it.
Personally, I use folders and file names. There's a really handy tool called Bulk Rename Utility, and with that, it takes just a few clicks to change all your DSC_1234.jpg's into 'Mountain Hike April 2016 - 1234.jpg's.
Personally, I go with the format of "[mm] [yy] - [location] - [people] - [image number]".
Bulk Rename Utility. Rename mutiple files or folders incrediblly fast, remove substrings from file name, use regex, remove up to or past a certain character, there's some much it does. I've renamed a folder of 800 files in less than a minute using it, I'd be hard-pressed to say it took more than 5 seconds.
Great for renaming songs and movies and all kinds of things that have an index in front of them.
Whitespace is good. It helps direct the user's focus and draw attention to important elements.
Using all available space is often more confusing than it is efficient.
It's indimidating as hell when you first look at it, but Bulk Rename Utility is great for this sort of thing once you get your head around the interface.
It's.... not therenamer. File (not tv shows or movies) renaming software like Lupas Renamer (I wrote the name wrong on my post) or Bulk Rename
Example with Bulk Rename (notice the "add sufix" part marked with a black rectangle)
I went to the main tv shows folder, unchecked "Folders" so it only works with files, checked Subfolders so it looks inside all the subfolders, and wrote *.srt in the filter so it only shows .srt files.
[Pet Peeve Powers Activate!] (Smiles...)
\\FILESERVER2\FILESERVER2-P-Music\%artist%\%album%(Year)\01-Song Title.mp3
\\FILESERVER2\FILESERVER2-P-Music\%artist%\%album%(Year)\02-Song Title.mp3
ETC...
I dedicate whole hard drives to a particular type of data file and the share name also tells me which data type and drive letter it resides on the remote machine.
I hate how some software thinks I should have my collection organized and then proceeds to fuck up my organized file structure based on ID3 tag info, cough iBuffoons cough, often times with incorrect info.
I use a really old freeware program from HeadStrong.de called ID3KILL (v 1.4), it removes and lists ID3v1 & ID3v2 tags from MP3 files. It can clean a directory or a whole hard drive of ID3 tag crap so whatever program I use to play music can't re-organize my collection. It also has command line switches so it can batch process the incoming directory at the click of an icon or get triggered by a cron job which is nice.
When it comes to playing stuff in the car with my Sansa Fuze. If any ID3 data is in the file, it'll slowly scroll that info which is stored in the ID3 tag and it'll take awhile before it finally displays the album and track name which is what I really want to see.
Without the ID3 data present, it only displays the album and track name which is much safer to quickly glance at and get the info I want when driving.
I then use Bulk Rename Utility to get all the file names into the format I want.
You're not the only one who can be anal as to how they want things organized. :)
Could you pls be more specific on how the tags are stored?
The program I use to auto-rename files is Bulk Rename Utility. It's super customizable and has dozens of ways you can rename files, in fact the interface looks really scary at first but it's really powerful. I'm not sure as to how you mean by these tags, but it may be perfect for you.
If the photos are from a phone then it's quite likely that they are jpg images, just add .jpg to the end of the files and Windows should recognize them as photo files.
If there are a lot of files then you can use something like Bulk Rename Utility to add .jpg to the end of all of the files in bulk, instead of you having to rename each image file manually.
I feel like the concept of DeviantArt doesn't translate so well to programs.
On DeviantArt, you can look at pictures and follow artists tailored to your tastes. It's easy to judge art and see how you like it just by giving a quick once-over (or twice-over).
Programs are different though. Although aesthetics are important, your program isn't worth the time it took to download it if it doesn't work as it is intended. Function over form in this case.
To supply an example, here is a program that I use frequently: Bulk Rename Utility
If you go to that website and look at some screenshots of it in action, it basically looks like shit. You can tell the creator of the program didn't care a whole lot about how it looks. If I had to guess how good the program was based on how it looked, I would have never used BRU. But, let me tell you, that thing renames pictures and videos like nobody's business. I use it almost every day.
On the other side of the coin, I think everyone's used a program that looked nice but didn't actually do what it advertised (or didn't do it very well).
At that point, if you need to actually install the program to download it, I don't see how that's so much different from going to a program's website and reading reviews by other people who have used it.
TL;DR: I don't think the principles that have made DeviantArt sucessful translate well to programs.
I use Bulk rename Utility. It's really verbose and has a lot of options. It doesn't have any automation though. I just run it once via the right click context menu option, when I finish downloading a season.
Edit: I take it back, they do have an option for automation through Bulk Rename Command. From what I can tell though it requires a bit more technical know how.
>The software is locked down so installing a batch program is out of the options.
so you can't install this? - http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
looking at the site they have a "no-install" version. Perhaps you'll have enough access to run that.
Also looks like they have a command line version - once you figure out the syntax, you could probably run that and have it delete the last 12 digits of the files (-xxx-xx-xxxx)
If the file management is your main concern with Plex, you probably won't have any better luck with any other XBMC/Kodi-based media server.
Have you tried use a utility like Bulk Rename to massage the filenames into a more easily parseable format? I've certainly had no trouble with Plex after re-naming files.
Here's a way to make Sims 2 load faster: If you're playing with CC, especially if you have a lot of it, you need to make sure it's all named in a way that the game can process. The CC filenames must not have spaces or any punctuation except - and _ Use the Bulk Rename Utility on your downloads folder and any CC files you download from now on. This will reduce loading times and CAS lag as the game will not have to struggle to recognize special characters.
The next trick is applicable to both Sims 2 and Sims 3. Guide to CFF Explorer and turning off Data Execution Prevention. Doing these will reduce the loading times and possibility of crashing by making the game able to recognize more than 2 GB of RAM in case it needs to use that much. It can reduce lag in CAS, during rain, and around high-poly items.
A trick for Sims 3 that I don't think many people know about that solves the problem of sims waiting hours before they change clothes. A simple edit to your graphics rules makes them change clothes instantly.
For general purpose file renaming, try Bulk Rename Utility.
However if you want something specifically for managing music, try Mp3tag. It is primarily used for editing/downloading tags, but it is also capable of renaming files to suit whatever format you like (for example, you could choose to rename all of your music files to be "Artist - Title" or just "Title").
Use this Bulk Rename Utility. It's small, free and very powerful. Do not get overwhelmed by the complex screen. It's very powerful once you get a hang of it. I'd recommend that you copy your files to another folder and then experiment with it.
Your suggestion to change the double the output framerate on the video so that it plays faster, may work.
But, interlacing is for old CRT TVs and some plasma displays. It looks bad on modern displays, like you showed... even when a player renders it better on a modern display, you have either half the vertical resolution or ghosting on fast movement.
Like he asked, he may need to dump every other frame.
I'd either:
OR
But yes, it was a good suggestion to increase the frame-rate instead of dumping frames, if youtube, or whatever your target is, is ok with that. You can increase the frame rate. (Some as above, but keep framestep at 1 and change the frame rate to 60 and output to a video.) Just don't interlace.
Windows can't tell the names are dates, so will just sort them lexicographically (i.e. in numerical order) instead. You can rename them using Bulk Rename Utility to put them in a better format.
Protip: Select all the files you want to rename, then hit f2. Type in a filename, and it will automatically rename them all to
filename (1).txt filename (2).txt etc
If not, enjoy the terrible UI of Bulk Rename Utility
If you don't want/need to write your own script for this then I recommend Bulk File Renamer.
Python would be the obvious one but Powershell is more than capable and just as easy if you're on Windows.
Bulk Rename Utility - Rename any number of files super fast. Find, replace, add, remove, prefixes, suffixes, numbers, dates and more. Can use regexps. Amazing.
AllSnap - Makes window edges snap together when dragged near other windows or screen edges.
Windows just feels dumb without these two.
To activate it do the following
Navigate to C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Config.
Open the configuration file GFX.ini with a text editor.
Find the setting ConvertHiresTextures and set the value from False to True.
Dolphin will now convert textures in the old format it loads in to the new format. But it will only load them in if the Texture Cache Accuracy and gameID match. And it will only load them in if the game actually needs it. So to convert the whole pack you need to play through the whole game with the converter enabled.
I just use filebot to rename my anime.
snap install filebot
on recent Ubuntu.
but in the past I used for your specific case, the qmv
command. from the rename-utils package.
I use it like this..
qmv -f do -e geany
in the terminal when I am in the anime directory.
this loads up geany with a list of all the filenames.
in geany you can select a VERTICAL block of text with shift-ctrl-arrowkeys I can select the whole vertical column of the text to remove then hit delete. save/exit, qmv renames them as needed.
any text editor can work, I just like geanys vertical selection feature. I forget how to do it in vi.
another 'dirty' way I have done this exact task in the past was to use wine and the 'bulk rename utility' windows program, It has more powerful set of features I find than any other gui tools for renameing.
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
and yes it has a "scary" interface, but once you learn it, it gets handy.
> In my opinion no. If you dig enough into it, you will find the computer will still contacting Microsoft for various reasons including for syncing the clock and occasionally doing a ping to see if you have a connection (and will alert you if it doesn't). Again unless you need Snowden level privacy, it in my opinion isn't an issue but of course I don't know you or your situation.
No, I'm not too paranoid about privacy but I don't like someone spy on me without my consent and also waste my resources.
> Disabling the update service used to work, but now Windows will automatically restart it. The batch file I linked works around that and can toggle updates on and off as desired.
Didn't know about that. It really sucks :/
> That is always a possibility, I'd try opening them in VLC or similar just to confirm. As for a rename tool, I have used Bulk Rename Utility, but I do not know of a tool that detects the long paths. http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
I would try another player but unfortunately I'm really get used to that. Perhaps foobar2000 is the closest in terms of UI.
I've tried this rename utility, my problem is that many files in this large collection (400k+) doesn't have ID3 tags so it would mess things up if I did a mass rename operation based on ID3 tags. I wouldn't like to just cut file names.
BulkRenameUtility. Very powerful and very confusing but once you figure it out its great. I've used it to rename thousands of audio and video files. They have a portable version that doesnt need to be installed.
Did anyone mention Bulk Rename Tool http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
Copy paste from website: "Bulk Rename Utility allows you to easily rename files and entire folders based upon extremely flexible criteria.
Add date/time stamps, replace numbers, insert text, convert case, add auto-numbers, process folders and sub-folders....plus a whole lot more"
SOLUTION: This program
Software related question:
Is there a way to quickly remove the first portion of a file name from multiple files. What I mean is I have tons of files that are like "USERNAME_filename.mp4"
I have many of these files from a friend, but I want to remove the "USERNAME_" part from all of them. I am using Windows 10 if that changes anything.
Bulk Rename Utility is great for fixing this kind of thing. The interface may seem a bit daunting at first, but it's fairly simple once you know what you want to do. You can change one or all files with whatever rules you apply to it.
I use bulk rename utility to rename downloaded videos and shows. For MP3 files I normally MP3tag so I can remove all the other tags.
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php
Open a folder, go to the section that says Repl. (3) and enter [www.mp3fiber.com] in "Replace", or whatever you want replaced, and leave "With" blank. If you highlight the files in the top section if will show the changes before you apply them.
Bulk Rename Utility is an awesome tool for this type of job. You can use it to remove the first N characters of the file names, which should be what you want to do here. It also looks like you are going to have to replace the space and # with an underscore to get them in order. I played around with your file names and doing that go this order:
1129
1129_3
1129_4
Just an idea
You can do this with the Cadillac of renaming programs: Bulk Rename Utility.
It takes a little while to figure out how it works, but it's very powerful and can rename things just about any way imaginable. To accomplish what you're after, you can use an option called Random Sort, then attach a sequential numbering prefix, so that your randomized files are renamed like this:
001-Night Shift.mp3
002-Who Knows.mp3
003-Sad But True.mp3
etc.
Once you have it figured out, you can save your configuration as a "Favorite" with Save As and invoke it instantly the next time you want to randomize them again.
Bulk rename utility found here is a great tool you should keep around. I've had to do mass file renames before and it's never quite right.
This makes everything perfect, allowing you to see a real-time preview of what will happen when you execute your rename action.
I would like to add on to this list with a few things
I believe you're referring to bulk rename utility, a Windows program that has a feature-rich interface including regular expressions, sequential numbering, and pre- and suffix addition
I do this. I also use Bulk Rename Utility for any batch editing functions that are not supported by mp3tag. Particularly the bulk editing of filenames before I use mp3tag to convert filename -> title when the titles are blank on albums I've downloaded.
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=114
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
Basically, make it apply changes to 4 characters long files, randomly arrange the files & rename them from 0001 to 9999.
I have used BulkRenamer numerous times and found it quite helpful.
Suffix [under Add] .eng to any files you want changed and then rename. Might be easier if you sorted by type in BulkRenamer first.
Also, does this need to be a script? Just asking because there are already existing utlities out there like http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
You don't need to reinvent the wheel unless you want to learn more about PS and can put in some time :)
http://www.wisesoft.co.uk/software/bulkadusers/default.aspx "WiseSoft Bulk AD Users is a tool that makes it easy to perform bulk updates to Active Directory User account attributes."
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php "Bulk Rename Utility is a free file renaming software for Windows. Bulk Rename Utility allows you to easily rename files and entire folders based upon extremely flexible criteria."
take a look at bulk rename utility and don't be too turned off by their website. The software is lightweight and allows you to mass rename files according to different rules that you set up. I've used it quite a bit and have been happy with it.
Just an FYI for those who don't know.
Bulk Rename Utility can do much more than it's name implies.
You can have it show every file in a directory structure in a single list without folders included. This alone is great for flattening a hierarchy.
Then you can filter by username and cut/copy those files into that user's folder. Which is of course lots of work for 600 employees.
Dumping those files into their own folder is actually pretty easy from that point though with a simple batch file.
Just as a side-note, Bulk Rename Utility gets installed on all of my Windows machines for renaming a bunch of files at once. It's a bit more than I need in a program, but it does everything that I need it to and with no fuss.
Dont ask me why, but i had to do this to get it to recognize seinfeld correctly.
Seinfeld.2x02.The_Pony_Remark.DVDrip_XviD-FoV etc......
also, bulk rename utility really makes all this a lot easier if you have a lot to rename....
Use this utility - BRU: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php works like a charm, and will definitely do what you want.
Windows, in and of itself, does not really have any way to do what you want other than what you have discovered.
If I feel like using a program with a GUI, I tend to use Bulk Rename Utility (Windows program). It has a lot of options, so many it might be confusing at first.
For the command line, I'll use ExifTool. Even though it's main purpose is to manipulate image metadata, it has powerful moving and renaming abilities that can be used on any file type.
Try Bulk Rename Utility. Do nor get overwhelmed with the UI. It's pretty simple to use once you get a hang of it. Experiment with it on a dummy folder before actually making the changes.
Hey there! Seeing that I suggested /u/jorg3234 to remove the @3x part from the file names, it would only be fair to tell you how to bulk rename a bunch of files.
So first off, you'll need a computer running Windows. Go to here and download either the 32bit or 64bit version of Bulk Rename Utility.
Once you've installed it, you want to open it up and navigate inside the IconBundles folder.
Follow what I did in this picture: http://i.imgur.com/RS53fzK.png
Make sure you change no other option, and all your files will now have @3x removed from its file name.
Edit: I don't have a Mac to work with so if you happen to only have a Mac, I would not know what to do, sorry!
(Also on a side note, I made only a very few of the app icons (CommBank, TripView, etc) so most of the credit goes to the original Kvasir and Android Lollipop port authors!)
Happy theming!
It's a brilliant program it can rename files using various formulas from hex to replacing a string with another. I suspect there are alternatives but it's what I've used for years.
Why can't you simply run them through a program to add an extension of jpg to them? You can do it by using Batch Conversion Option in Irfan View or using a utility like Advanced Renamer or Bulk Rename.
I use bulk rename utility. It may take some time to figure out what the different funktions do, but I think it's a great tool.
edit: There are many tutorials on Youtube you can watch ;)
To be honest, I'd recommend a dedicated utility like
Path Copy Copy Context menu util that copies filenames/paths to the clip board in several formats.
Bulk Rename Utility Very powerful bulk file renaming utility. Change/replace/pad/trim/etc.
Blue Stacks is an application that allows you to run Android apps on your PC.
For bulk renaming, I'm using the generically-named "Bulk Rename Utility" http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
I don't want to work without Everything (I think this is quite common though) and Bulk Rename Utility is always helpful if you want to rename multiple files at one go.
Two examples of "kitchen sink" engineering. There are many in the software world. Too many to count.
These are obviously extreme examples, but lets say Mojang was to take every suggestion thrown at them, or even 10% of them from /r/minecraft you would end up with someone damn near unplayable, or with such a learning curve many wouldn't even bother. You'd probably get mods or spin offs like "SimplifiedCraft" and the like.
Two steps.
1) Any bulk rename software (i.e. http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk) to remove the year from the filename.
2) An AutoITscript that does this + this (see flag 8 in FileMove) to search for *.avi files (or whatever) in your movies folder and move each file to its own folder.
I think Bulk Rename Utility will work for you. The interface may seem a bit daunting at first but it is actually very intuitive and it is a very powerful program for advanced renaming. And it is free, which is always nice.
To have it show things in subfolders all you have to do is check the "Subfolders" option under Selections(bottom left).
Actually its not bad at all, I grabbed a few examples (all running off portable HDD)
F:\Anime\Aenobashi Magical Shopping Arcade\13_Return to Life_The Legendary Onmyou Mystic.avi
F:\Anime\Nichijou[Doki] Nichijou - 00 (720x480 h264 DVD AAC) [8C48DBF1].mkv
But you're right, the ideal format is: F:\Anime\Bakemonogatari\Bakemonogatari.S01.E01
But with Bulk Rename Utility you can rename an entire series at once in such a format. I currently have 45 anime series and it took hardly any time at all to rename them all.
To activate it do the following * Navigate to C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Dolphin Emulator\Config.
I did this recently where the file name extension wasn't visible, I used bulk rename utility and just used extension 11 (bottom right), changed from same to fixed, typed my extension and hit rename and it worked for me.
Sorry, man, I’m not gonna look up all these series on thetvdb.com and then write out explicitly how to name every episode. You got the examples. Stick to them, look up the shows on thetvdb.com and name episodes accordingly.
You can use http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk or https://www.tinymediamanager.org/ for bulk renaming.
For fixing TV shows and such Bulk Rename Utility can be your greatest friend
If you don't have the names right, things either won't show up, or will show up wrong. Fix the names and they should show up.
Two programs I use that are not listed here.

Bulk File Rename
http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
It is not the kind of thing you use all the time. But it will really help if you're trying to clean up a poorly organized hard drive.
> is there anything else really concerning?
In my opinion no. If you dig enough into it, you will find the computer will still contacting Microsoft for various reasons including for syncing the clock and occasionally doing a ping to see if you have a connection (and will alert you if it doesn't). Again unless you need Snowden level privacy, it in my opinion isn't an issue but of course I don't know you or your situation.
>I have home edition so there is no policy editor but I read that there is a "windows update" service that can be disabled, can you confirm that?
Disabling the update service used to work, but now Windows will automatically restart it. The batch file I linked works around that and can toggle updates on and off as desired.
>Maybe that player doesn't support long paths??
That is always a possibility, I'd try opening them in VLC or similar just to confirm.
As for a rename tool, I have used Bulk Rename Utility, but I do not know of a tool that detects the long paths. http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Main_Intro.php
About the second part, there are lots of mass-renaming tools out there, if I understood your question right - Bulk Rename is but one, though I personally use Total Commander which is simply the best file manager out there and has a good multi-rename tool which lets you use wildcards/regular expressions etc. to pretty much do everything you want.
All I can say about the data entry part is that there is no service I know of that will let you automagically pull up product data just by scanning a barcode. I know that when you connect a barcode reader to a PC (assuming it has a USB, COM or some other compatible connection), when you read the barcode it will basically "type" the text onto your PC. So if you highlight the next Excel field and read the barcode it SHOULD read the barcode/UPC straight into the Excel field. That would speed things up a fair bit. Then I guess you could copy/paste the UPC into a site like the one I made (here) and get the product title and some other info, though there's no guarantee the product is in the database, especially if it's older, discontinued etc.
I've said to other people in the past, if you gave me a list of UPCs (once you had entered them) I COULD write a script to export titles and manufacturer for you (at least for those products for which there was data) and make an Excel/CSV list - it would take a day or two and I would be happy to do it for free because I am always on the lookout for new UPCs to cannibalise :).
