Looking at this it looks like the peak today was around 10k.
Right now PS2 seems to be going through a bit of a lull. It's had crashing problems for some as they've moved onto the 64bit client, server problems especially in Australia, and there's not a lot of new content/changes recently to draw people in. There was also the "UPGRADE NOW" drama as they put lots of reminders all over the client to subscribe which pissed some people off.
The patch this week was delayed because San Diego (where SOE is located) has a little wildfire problem, but that patch brings implants, which is a controversial topic in itself but it'll mix things up a bit.
There's nothing imminent (roadmap) that's going to turn things around, but Hossin (new continent) and continent locking are tentatively scheduled for next month, so that could bring a load of people back.
If you take one of those keys and activate it then go to here for client. It can be downloaded already :D
Edit: Confirmed, allows to download client right away. Can provide screenies if need be :D
Edit 2: How this is even possible? I got launcher and it allowed me to log in for actual game client. As far I understand this system is meant to block you from downloading if yours account isn't flagged for beta access at this moment. Or am I wrong here? Well I download this baby and let see what happens.
To everyone who doesn't live in NA, i'd recommend using proxyswitchy, then a proxy server, I used 138.207.8.77:8080 to get a key. Perhaps register beforehand so you don't have to deal with the slowness of the proxy, then clear your cookies, then login via the proxy.
See you in game!
Edit: download link here!
When it goes Free2Play (and it is), play it up to 50 on whichever class you choose. (Some are better than others) It's probably worth a playthrough at least once for each faction, and once for all of the really good storylines (agent comes to mind, I enjoyed inquisitor too).
End-game is rubbish though and the game itself is not worth your money. There are many other much better alternatives.
I haven't had the opportunity to play MAG so I can't say whether or not anyone is going to attempt their specific play-style, but the biggest game player-wise that's going to come out in the near future is the MMO FPS Planetside 2 (http://www.planetside2.com/). If it's anything like the first one in its heyday you're going to be looking at some of the largest scale FPS battles ever played.
Short answers though,
New content is planned for next month. http://www.planetside2.com/roadmap
As far as "abandoning loyal fans" I think they are doing the opposite. The optimization and balance changes were definitely needed. Sure it was also to help with PS4 development but before the optimization everyone was complaining about the framerate. It was needed and I'm glad SOE decided to focus on optimization and didn't let it continue the way it was.
The example I always use of integrating the community well into the development process is Planetside 2's roadmap. A simple list of high- and low-scope additions to the game, sometimes with a set date, sometimes without. Often the date is missed, features get pushed back, removed, overhauled; more than once the community has had a very negative response to something on the roadmap and it's been radically changed to reflect community concerns or binned/postponed entirely. I'm running out of fingers to count times Anet has made a stupid change that the community has gone berserk over, that could have been avoided with even a tiny bit of community feedback.
It doesn't always work out perfectly of course, but it's a hell of a lot better than half the game turning into a lynch mob every 3 months because Anet have done something else absurd without thinking twice about it.
Way back when while they were releasing the lore for ps2 through journals and communications, I know that at least the NC built and lived in underground cities. That might be the case for everyone else too.
Edit: "Genny talked over her brother as if he hadn’t said a word. '…while the N.C. went off and built their damn underground cities and let the rest of us rot.'"
Yes... CURRENTLY http://www.planetside2.com/Home is down...
But http://www.planetside2.com/ ISN'T.
Edit - But then again I'm a noob and maybe the /home page has some importance other than being the same as the default splash page... CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG
It probably means their site is getting hammered by legions of bloodthirsty, crazed Planetside fans who inexplicably go to http://www.planetside2.com/download in spite of nothing linking there in the first place.
Oops. Our bad!
The "not speculating about the future = not saying anything to the players" is just the worst kind of company policy I know of.
I completly get why you can't be too open about things and why you don't give dates, simply because 95% of the people can't handle it and completly explode when a date can't be reached, but not even telling, what they have in mind, is just ridiculous.
You want to have a look at a great roadmap? Here you go: http://www.planetside2.com/roadmap It was even updated yesterday.
Do they miss certain features or do they delay them? Sure, but that is not the point. The community simply knows what's going on in the next 6-12 months and what they have planed and this helps A LOT to keep many people interested in the game.
Currently, we don't even know what is 2 weeks ahead of us, are you kidding me? Seriously, there is no other developer in the whole MMO market, which is so tight lipped like A-Net, not even Blizzard, which usually won't tell us much as well. I don't know, that is probably one of the reasons why I can't play GW2 like a normal MMO because I have nothing to rejoice over because I don't know what happens in the future.

Actually, if you keep reading, you find out that Commander Waterson, the man in charge of the TR military, planned the killing of Commander Connery.
“It’d be an awful shame your Jenny is at the wrong place at the wrong time. I can’t exactly promise that the local authorities could continue to keep your family safe, what with being spread so thin lately. I’ve spoken to far more than just you about this matter, Adam, and the final step before I can begin to put this plan into action is your cooperation. Everything else is already in place, and all we need now is another beloved figurehead. When the time comes, of course.”
Miller stood facing the door and turned around to the grinning Lieutenant Commander, knowing his hands were tied. “Another? You’re sickening, Brent. How do you call yourself T.R.?”
“Because no one will ever find out, Adam. Who would question us if we pinned it on some of Mattherson’s starving N.C. cronies? We’re calling the shots here, remember? I trust that you’ll comply, given the terms of our agreement, correct?” Waterson said, grinning at his victory.
Yeah, but that was back when the content releases actually had some substance to them. And there actually used to be stuff on the roadmap.
In fact, it seems a pretty big co-incidence that now as we're officially in the tumbleweed section of the roadmap that development on new content is coming to a halt for an indeterminant amount of time.
If this is getting you down you should try Planetside 2 check them out at /r/Planetside
EDIT: Hmm, for some reason I'm getting downvoted, but anyway... Check this video if you have time and you'll see what I mean http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJXo3dNq_e0
Keep in mind that that was during the BETA
I've been out of the cycle for quite a while, does DayZ have anything like a roadmap? Example of a roadmap
Like what we can expect in the month September/October/November/December and what has been dropped or delayed?
I agree, this is a feature I'd like to see added soon. Yes, they have been intending on adding in that ability since beta, that is why the center of the warpgate has that structure, but their prerequisite for that was Hossin. Now that we have it, hopefully we will see in the coming months.
It's unscheduled on the Roadmap.
Well, you want to go to this subreddit for info about the Reddit team. Just check out the FAQ on the sidebar.
As for the characters, well, everyone starts out the same, sans the empire differences (Reddit is playing Vanu, btw). You use certificication points you get for playing to specialize by buying weapons and upgrades for your vehicles and classes, which you can swap freely. You get 1 cert for every 250XP, which you gain by generally playing the game.
As for some general tips, well:
Make sure to watch the official tutorial videos. They are really helpful.
Use Q to spot enemies. It shows their names on the HUD and gives a triangle above them, so your teammates can shoot them easier.
Join an outfit. You can solo thing game, but it is so much more fun if you find an outfit.
If you can't decide what to cert into first, get an S-AMS cert point for the Sunderer. That is a 12 man land transport, and with that upgrade, you can press b to anchor it in and make it a remote spawn point.
SCU is the spawn control generator. I don't know why don't people know this, but it's a common question.
If you have more questions, ask away.
I am in the beta for Planetside 2, and DICE/EA have a shit ton to worry about.
They are talking to the community on a daily basis and making updates once a week. The fraking President of Sony Online Entertainment is a very active poster on reddit, the ps2 forums and plays the game everyday as well. After spending a week in that game I can see that they are trying to do pretty much everything the BF community has been begging, pleading and crying for.
You can ask them on Twitter for a key to the beta, they give them out all day long now.
I know that most people are linking non-original stuff. So, I decided to throw this together based on some original images I saw..
The image I used for the player was this. As for giving credit to anyone else, I honestly do not remember where I saw the "Lasers and stuff" and I THINK the style I based it on was actually a NC poster though I could be wrong.
Edit: This was all done in via vectors, and I could clean it up, and re-size it for anyone that is interested. I just wanted to get it done semi-quick.
Yeah I follow Rust that way too.
If you are familiar with Planetside 2 and it's Roadmap feature, then I would assume a similar product will make it into H1Z1, eventually.
I will also add that Roadmap's are a mixed bag. There could be something players REALLY REALLY want that is on the roadmap forever and never make it into the game (cough, continent locking & hossin), then others that are voted into the negatives (cough, implants) and still make it in. But in concept they are nice.
If you are from Europe and downloaded the client through steam, what you want to do is go to:
and sign up for an account with your country as the United States
after you have created your account go to:
and press log in.
After that you should be able to log in using the info you used for soe.com
do NOT: modify your files. this only works if you have a unmodified client from steam.
The graphics engines will be virtually the same between consoles and PC, you won't see much of a difference between things in the foreground. The strength of the PC platform comes from the increased hardware capabilities. If your computer has 32 times the RAM and 16 times the graphics RAM as an Xbox 360, the graphics engine can use higher-detail models farther away, your load times will be non-existent, and the game will run much higher than 60 FPS even when the scene is really busy. Plus, you can run games at a higher resolution with more anti-aliasing.
If you're only looking at console ports you're not going to see much of a difference. Most of those games were made for the console primarily, the PC port was an afterthought. They're designed around the limitations of consoles, where areas in levels must be small enough to fit into memory.
PCs shine in a category of games that consoles just can't do. The best example I can think of is Planetside 2. It's free to play and just about to get out of beta. It's a Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter. Instead of fighting 31 other people hosted on the Xbox of a 13 year old with a bad temper you'll be fighting tens of thousands of other people in a war on a massive continent. It would be technically impossible to run this game on this generation of consoles and maybe the next. The upcoming Star Citizen also falls into this category.
No idea when they will be sending out eMails but Smed tweeted that the system will go live at Monday November 5th at 7am Pacific (a little less than two hours from now): https://twitter.com/j_smedley/status/263708799783813120
Since they mistakenly had it activated last week we know that it is a simple form at http://www.planetside2.com/reserve-name and you can only reserve one name. (All the reservations from that incident have been wiped btw.)
Look for a game called Planetside. Or Planetside 2 is coming out soon. MMOFPS. Though with rpgs(stat grinders) games it will have some stat building mechanics like skill trees and loot and stuff.
I had to go to http://www.planetside2.com/download click that, then log in. It said I had already signed up but that I can fill out a questionnaire, so I clicked that link (after changing IE to EN-US) and it worked.
Heres the actual roadmap and in case anyone missed it, heres an update on how the devs are going to handle the roadmap this year.
> 1. From now on, most features on Roadmap will be kept under unscheduled until we're more certain of a solid release date for them. What that means is when you see something move to "March" you will be able to reasonably expect that feature is ready to be released in March. That isn't a guarantee of course, things will still shift from time to time, but since things will be in Unscheduled until we are very confident that we can hit the dates, this will be a lot more accurate.
> 2. Roadmap entries will now have a field for "Status" so you can see what state it's in. We will have statuses for: Designed, In Progress, Internal Testing, On Public Test and Complete.
> Starting early in the new year we're planning on cleaning up many of the Roadmap threads and consolidating based on some revised designs for many of the features which had been up there previously. Some entries are already up for the Amerish Revamp, new Missions & Directives systems, as well as the new Death Screen.

>PS2 has been in a steady decline ever since they failed to deliver most of their deadlines for features
And those would be? Please, tell me what deadlines they haven't met, things such as Hossin being pushed back for the performance updates not included because of obviously necessity. Continental lattice has been a long term goal since beta, they need more than 3 continents for it. They have their deadlines plain to see right here. The game is fucking free to play, and you're bitching at them for trying to get some more cash coming into it? They aren't "wasting time" making making things like cosmetics, the majority of those are either made by the community or so easy to make that the time spent isn't even worth counting. How would you even know how much they have added, changed, and improved if you don't play it regularly? I fucking * love* playing this game now no other game can compare to it in scale of maps or battles. I couldn't care less if you think I'm an idiot for spending money on it, I think you're an idiot for not. See how opinions work?
Experience != Resources. Resources are what you gain every 'tick' depending on what territories your faction owns. (Divided into Aerospace, Mechanized, Infantry you can see this on either your profile page or the map by hovering over a territory and seeing what it gives a bonus too).
The membership benefits are simple.
25% Bonus to Passive cert gain, these are the certs you gain while offline (providing you login once a day). 25% Bonus to Experience (Active cert gain). 25% Bonus to Resource gain.
This stacks with other things, for example my base % right now is 25%, I have a 50% boost and double XP atm so my net total is 75% or there abouts (upto 90% while defending).
I've taken all this from my head as I'm at work, I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got something wrong!
Here you go. Its the second section down labeled "Magrider". Its one of the reasons I love Vanu. Also, Test. Test everything. Test the Afterburners. FOR SCIENCE!
The safest way to check is if you log on to www.planetside2.com and check your SC balance if you've bought SC. Another way would be trying to log on to en.planetside2.eu and checking if you have an account with Pro7.
Better safe than sorry...
Just for info this part is wrong in OP or just depends how you look at it;
>If you cannot justify paying 60$ over the course of 4 months(which actually works out to 40$ because of the free 2,000 SC you get on top of that), maybe the MMO genre just isn't for you.
Sure you get 500 SC / month, BUT only if you keep subscription rolling automatically. This was heated discussion, here and official forums, little while ago because SOE has marketed falsely. In i.e. here it's worded as "500 Station Cash each month", but fails to mention that you need to keep automatic renewing on.
Like someone in official forums said about membership is that you pay 12.99 € / month for some bonus XP, not for more or less. 500 SC is just sugar coating on top if you keep ordering more these "XP boosters" without taking billing info out between.
Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention. Didn't you know that PC gamers are entitled little kids that except to get certain stuff etc. when game is released on PC etc.? No pleasing of those entitled brats...
People missing out on entitlement joke, but still you pay 13€ / month for 500SC. If not please provide me with facts.
We wouldn't need strict military discipline if we could live in peace, but we can't. Seems some wackos in blue suits keep shooting up the place. Don't worry though, we'll find a nice state run prison cell for you soon, free of charge.
(Here and Here are some good background stories on NC Corporate tyranny and cronyism.)
http://www.planetside2.com/news16 is a really good start. Just browse backwards through the News for more backstory articles. I don't think that ALL the lore is posted yet, but the articles posted there do the job nicely.
Before they changed it, the tail was the furthest thing downward of your aircraft. So when I was trying to look cool and get really close to things, I would catch it on something, and immediately crash. I'm guessing other people had the same problem and that's why it was changed.
>There is no way that SOE can make the game without talking and thinking about making money.
I didn't say they shouldn't be thinking about money. I said they see players as wallets. You can see from their roadmap for december.
http://www.planetside2.com/roadmap
Notice how they never did the instructional events? Because they can't make money off of it. See the money would come automatically if they just made a good game that had parts of PS1 infused in it.
>But you wrongly imply they do not work on the game be fun and entertain people and just stare at the money.
I just look at their roadmap. Actions speak louder than words.
>If I watch the devs or higby I can see the passion for the game.
I don't. I saw a video of Kidriot interviewing higby and all he could talk about were directives and wanting to farm all day when he goes home every night.
>That does not turn wrong if the devs have a different opinion on how the game should evolve than parts of /r/planetside, or they have to make their plans under certain resource constraints people here flat out refuse to accept.
No one knows what their plans are. Who ever asked for auto turrets? The Valkyrie? What a waste of time. They chose the money making content to put in the game.
If PS2 was a publicly traded company, I would never invest in it today.
I am actually looking forward to it. Even though Scarlet wasn't a hit character, overall it has been enjoyable and different from anything other MMOs have done. I haven't missed a single meta and will keep doing so.
Don't get me wrong, I am not negative about the game and I still play it regularly and enjoy it. I'd just like it if they gave us some sort of a roadmap if they aren't going to provide us with a feature-filled expansion anytime soon (something like Planetside 2 has under unscheduled features: http://www.planetside2.com/roadmap).
Dates or tight deadlines are not necessary and most fans understand things can change during development. We've stuck with this company for almost 10 years now.
Similar stats are available through here:http://www.planetside-universe.com/characters.php
They have early access to the API and it seems a bit broken and bad at updating. But it is available. It's just a matter of when it becomes massively available.
Also, the players tab on http://www.planetside2.com/ says coming soon, and who knows what that can hold.
One of my favorite games of this year, Planetside 2, I fell in love with this game during its beta stage and have been playing it ever since.
It currently has 3 giant maps (desert, frozen, forest, more to come aswell) that can hold around 600 people on each, which makes for some of the most epic battles ive ever seen/been in.
The game has 3 different factions all fighting each other for control of the maps, and once a map has been conquered by a faction, that faction then gets a bonus assigned with the map.
Planetside 2 has a mixture of different vehicles from Tanks to Fighters to Quads and there are plans to add more later on.
And the best part of Planetside 2 is its F2P!
You can buy Station cash (the in-game currency) to quickly buy infanty weapons and vehicle weapons or cosmetic equipment. Everything except cosmetics can be obtained by normal gameplay it just takes a little longer.
I highly recommend people to give it a go, you can find it here:
or on Steam here:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/218230/
and if you need some help im sure you can find it here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Planetside/
:)
Here's the tutorials Aaaaaaaaaaaagh mentioned. http://www.planetside2.com/game-tutorials
Also, the intention of dropping you into the middle of a massive battle was to give you a feel for the scale of the game and how battles work. The developers originally had players spawn at the warpgate, but they found that although players were able to set up their keybinds and such, had no idea what to do from there.
Solo player here; I've been having a blast. Join a squad during your play sessions, you can deploy right to your Squad Leader using the map. If you have a bit of time, like while the game is downloading, you may want to watch some of these: http://www.planetside2.com/game-tutorials.
However I would watch the base layout video without exception; http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-idK9AJ_7Vo. As it will help you with getting around the more confusing game areas, and give you a crash course in how the generators play a role in base assault/defense.
Edit: I have not yet, but consider joining an outfit. It'll give ya some friends to play/discuss the game with.
You're not alone brother. Until SOE provides a sandboxed tutorial that people can use to learn the ways of PS2, it will be tough going for any newcomer.
That being said, here are some suggestions:
Take some time and watch these: http://www.planetside2.com/game-tutorials They are quite good and will really show you all the basics you need. (including how to spend your first certs).
On flying....Try plugging in an XBox 360 controller and mapping the Aircraft controls. This made flight much smoother.....However, I have since gone back to keyboard and mouse for better precision.
Join an Outfit. Sony has a forum for outfit recruitment, however I found this more helpful: http://www.enjin.com/recruitment/planetside-2-PC-72700
Take some time, pick a class and play style. Work your way to the items you want. This is not a game you can level-up and max out over a weekend, week or month. It's an MMO so the certs come slower.
Throw SOE a couple bones and buy some Station Cash to unlock the tasty treats you want and use certs to mod up your toys.
If you want to avoid team kills, don't roll a NC character! ;)
Hope this helps!
You may trial a new weapon every 7 hours for 30 minutes. Be sure to do it! Saves you from spending certifications/money on something you don't want. You can trial a weapon by finding it through depot (head to a resupply terminal and select 'get more'), clicking "buy" and selecting the trial option on the bottom.
This really should be a PSA, but there are tutorials on almost everything here (click me!).
Something I've noticed a lot of people struggling with is aircraft. If you're interested in flying, let me know and I'll give you some advice on how to fly and general objectives.
Have you tried Tribes: Ascend? (Also on steam) It has been a while since I've played it, but it fits a good amount of your italicized desires.
Another game you might want to keep an eye on is Planetside 2, which should be coming out on Nov. 20th, unless they delay release at the last minute.
Both Tribes: Ascend and Planetside 2 are free to play, (PS2 is in beta right now, might be possible to find a key somewhere) shouldn't be very difficult to find some videos online to see if you'd be interested.
Here's hoping, I love NC but really dislike the goofy goggles without a real facemask. I want an NC trooper that looks like our NC pictured on the left for the Alpha Squad, seen here
http://www.planetside2.com/news/june-2012-producers-letter-beta
4th paragraph, it seems I was incorrect however, sorry about that, from the article it seems to me that it is an internal tech test. Once again I could be wrong there too. Sorry for the mistake.
In the Planetside 2 lore, tensions between military and civilians boil over after their expedition is shut off from earth by the unexpected closing of the Auraxis wormhole.
it probably is.
He's sort of just standing around though, so not sure if he's actually actively repairing.
There's for sure underground ones.
> “…while the N.C. went off and built their damn underground cities and let the rest of us rot.”
Found here.
Who's to say how large that might be, could have wide avenues for tanks, or perhaps just cramped corridors and halls. It would be interesting to see.
If lore is your thing, there is a new backstory written. Some like it, some don't, but it was written by Marv Wolfman. You'll have to scan through the news to read what's been released so far but here is the first one. Planetside 2 Backstory - Part 1
Tribes: Ascend is definitely my core FPS now. I left TF2 back when they went on to the micro-transaction system for hats, and there's not been anything to fill that gap until now.
Only game I see pulling me away from Tribes is Planetside 2 simply because it was the only MMO game I played for nearly 4 years solid. Seeing my beloved NC with a facelift for the next generation of gaming makes me tingly in places.
Thanks for mentioning the TF2 Mix-up at the start of the show. What you didn't mention though was that we're running a raffle for people who donate to Child's Play through the widget on the site. Three winners will walk away with signed merchandise from Valve and Bethesda and get to play along side you, Notch, Robin, Freddie and all the rest of those awesome people in the match itself.
On another note, Veronica failed to notice that Margaret Krohn, developer at Sony Online Entertainment working on Planetside2 is also a girl... shame on you.. shame on you..
It seems like it might. If you look at the screenshot in the upper right-hand corner here (http://www.planetside2.com/screenshots) you may notice a slight armor difference along with a general lack of color on one soldier if you compare the two of them. This may be due to armor or possibly officer upgrades, but it looks like there is something in place to let us know the difference between grunts and bamfs.
There is a quip in a fanfic story made by the devs that suggest an early february beta start and an early may release date for the game.
if you read this fictional news story: http://www.planetside2.com/news/dec232011backstory
and scroll to the bottom you will read:
> Because of that, we’re willing to make a deal. If you can raise the necessary number of volunteers by February 12th, then we will honor our end of the bargain and fund the repair and reconditioning of 200 ships. But it’s all up to you, Tom. You’ve got three weeks.
Sounds like the volunteer beta sign up people. And then you have:
>A launch date of May 13, 2638, the anniversary of the Armistice, has been chosen.
Funny how they use the words launch date. Funny how both dates are early next year, and may 20th was the release date of planetside 1...and they say the "anniversary of armistice" may 20th is close to the 13th for the 9th anniversary of planetside.
Then again I could be delusional in my DO WANTING of ps2 lol.
It's very good, but has a somewhat steep learning curve. Try watching the PS2 Cram Session. You can also check out /r/PlanetSide and /r/PS2Mentor. You can download the game standalone or through Steam, although both versions are identical.
The biggest thing I remember about launch day was this:
http://www.planetside2.com/countdown (obviously the counter has been removed)
I kept checking back on that thing for 2 hours before the game launched. It had been such a long time since I'd felt such giddy anticipation for a game launch.
They deleted characters that been inactive for 6 months or more back in December of 2013. You're character very well might not exist anymore already. What's the name? You can check for it on the players site.
Hats off to this guy, http://www.planetside2.com/players/#!/7672482752231870993/killboard who looks like he spent the night dying, spawning and dying straight away. Check the timestamps.
As far as lazy Sunday sessions go that is one on of the most brutal I've seen.
And is it correct that the list says 1486 players logged in during the 2hrs of that alert and either died or killed someone. I assume that doesnt count alts collecting certs either.
One day, can we get everyone on to stay logged in at the same time.
Yeah, I've mentioned it before, but I'd personally love to see something similar to Planetside 2's roadmap. It would definitely eliminate many of the concerns around communication and feedback/criticism from the community being shrugged off.
Warpgates are still "home" for factions, and I guess you can wipe factions of a certain continent with continent locking. (Note there are still going to be updates and changes to continent locking)
Resources are now Nanites, you get 50 a minute if you are in friendly territory that is connected by the warpgate iirc. (More changes for that are to come as well)
A link to the Road Map
All Jaeger characters are live characters, so you can look up stats on the players website or other stat sites. Keep in mind that stats may be off for several reasons (characters used for levelling with teamkills or kills before the match, etc.).
Character naming convention for Jaeger server smash accounts: ServerSmash<empire><number>, examples:
Not all numbers are present, and some numbers are different from what you would expect (for example, 5003 instead of 503).
> What is all this directive stuff?
Check out the roadmap for more detailed information (I can't give you a direct link right now). They're basically achievements that you can earn by doing various things, but they are not in the live game yet.
> All these golden guns I keep seeing, where are they coming from?
Many of the weapons in the game have "silver" and "gold" versions, which are functionally the same as the regular versions, they just cost more money in the cash store. They're for people who want to show off that they wasted money.
> Hossin is cool as fuck, but what happened to my framerate?
Hossin has not gotten the same performance/optimization pass that the other continents have gotten within the last year, so there's a lot of unnecessary overhead that will get trimmed down later.
> QoL?????
Quality of Life
> I noticed the new outfit recruitment, and I really love it, but why are people without a outfit (like me when I came back) not immediately told about the page via popup or something?
Adding a popup isn't trivial to add, so presumably they felt it wasn't worth spending the time on. Also, they will be adding contextual help/tutorials into the game soon so that would be redundant.
> Yey implants, glad we still have a good cert sink!
Implants aren't actually a cert sink at all. I've not spent a single cert or station cash on implants and currently have all of them and plenty of chargers to keep me going.
> What else is new to the game?
Hossin and Implants I think are really the only new things.
Great, the game is more fun now than ever.
They did 2 graphical optimization passes (Forgelight engine updates due to Landmark performance issues).
Added higher resolution textures.
Greatly improved the lighting and shader models.
Changed the launcher to 64-Bit. (no longer crashes, consumes more than 4GB of ram)
Greatly decreased the load times.
Streamlined the interface.
Added more vehicle mods.
Added a new continent (Hossin, currently in a testing phase).
Next month we are getting a new airship, the Valkyrie.
You can follow the roadmap here. They are building the roadmap out to support the game until at least 2025. They have a lot of good things planned.
Planetside 2 has a full development staff and not a support staff. SOE's vision of Planetside 2 is that the game is not finished/will not be so they keep on adding new mechanics. there is planned additions until september and then more backlog to be added http://www.planetside2.com/roadmap
No official roadmap, just a interview with chosen quotes, cool. Meanwhile SOE has weekly updates for PS2 and official roadmaps for the community http://www.planetside2.com/roadmap
Did Dean bring the genre to the mainstream? Absolutely. But that doesn't give him an exclusive license for it. Zombie Apocalypse survival games are going to be coming out for years to come while dayz is stuck in development hell.
I think I've seen some comparisons to Planetside 2 regarding the latency and action-combat in PvP. "If Planetside 2 can have hundreds of enemies shooting each other while crammed in a biolab, why can't ESO have the SPG combat?" type of stuff.
I only brought up PS2 once recently, and that's because I'd love to see more of this in MMORPGs.
The only authorized retailer for SC cards in Canada is EBGames (source)
AFAIK, the EBGames cards are not the 1500+500 that are available in the US, but I haven't been to a physical store in years...
However, if you grab a card from someone in the US (such as the kind fellow in another thread), you would get the full benefit of the (1500+500)x3 promotion upon redemption (the card's code determines the value, not where you live).
Here's a link to the game tutorial vids They're actually pretty handy.
I'd recommend the class video, the squad video (even though the in game voice software isn't amazing like they show in the vid), the map video, base layouts, & cert points. I was completely new to PS when I started so these got me started so I had some idea of what was going on.
Also read things like the PSA posts on this subreddit & the guide videos.
Link where you saw it. The two main routes to purchasing do not mention auto-renew. That is the in game membership purchase screen, and http://www.planetside2.com/shop?buy=membership - neither of those two routes mention auto-renew.
i highly recommend Planetside 2. i played a bit of planetside 1, and had the pleasure of playing ps2 all the way from early beta.
it just released, and though its a little known game, i think its pretty awesome.
first person shooter, massive open world combat, planes, tanks, many classes to choose from, each well balanced. three factions, huge bases to capture and defend, 100 + tank armor columns. aaah, but it is good!
i play on the "genudine" server as the "new conglomerate" faction. poke "mara" if anyones ever in game!
I would recommend that we add a link to the official game tutorial page to this FAQ: http://www.planetside2.com/game-tutorials
Also, we could add the Error Codes page for people needing to figure out what is going on with their game: http://help.station.sony.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/33981/kw/g15
It should send you an email telling you that you are now in the beta. The same email should also contain a link to download the game. But this is the downloadlink anyway: http://www.planetside2.com/download
Just go to http://www.planetside2.com/ and theres a box on the right side of the page to enter the code in then im pretty sure after that it asks you to make an account. Once you do that it should give you a launcher to download the game then its just a matter of logging into the game and playing it.
Are you looking for any specific platform?
If overall team strategy on the PC is what you're looking for, I recommend checking out Planetside 2 (http://www.planetside2.com). It does not have particularly tactical gunplay, though, so it's something to keep in mind (gunplay in general is less emphasized than the Call of Duty series).
The in-game outfit (think clan/guild) support is pretty decent, and playing with a team of people actually communicating can enable some amazing things to happen. It's currently in beta, though it launches on the 20th. Also, it's going to be Free-to-Play, so there's not much to lose by giving it a whirl. Also, you haven't lived until you've participated in a 100 vs. 100 vs. 100 three way battle. It's nuts.
If you are looking for something on the PS3 or Xbox 360, I do recommend BF3. You can try running and gunning like in CoD, but you will go far by playing a little more tactically. I found it pretty easy to transition to BF3 from Call of Duty, and I enjoyed the greater emphasis on positioning and team, rather than moment-to-moment reaction skills. The "Premium" thing you get when purchasing the game now is definitely worth it. I haven't personally kept up with the game, but my impression is that they have continued adding variations of their game style to keep things fresh.
None? Sorry. I could mention a few sites and writers I kinda respect but… "trust" is a big word in an industry in which preview "exclusives" are a standard and most reviews are displayed beneath a giant ad… for the game being reviewed. And they just take so much pride into not taking things seriously. I mean yea, snobbery is annoying, but shouldn't they at least take the very thing they write about seriously enough to not make every second sentence ironic or self-deprecating?
I like RPS for their out-of-the-mainstream coverage. But their previews are often as over-hyped and weirdly kiss ass as any others (I pity the fools who bought Brink based on their recommendation).
And TotalBiscuit worked for Sony. Never been that much of a TotalBiscuit fan… he mostly just relies on his strong voice, he's essentially a radio host with a games channel. The best I heard of him in terms of actual coverage and opinion never goes beyond the obvious everyone else already brought up. Does he even claim to be a journalist?
The PA Report seems alright, but also mostly relying on covering save, popular events after they already blew up, just rehashing the obvious.
Most importantly, few if any places I've ever come across go beyond covering games as an entertainment/industry-gossip fix, the way MTV would cover "music". I'd like to see something closer to, say, pitchfork.com (yadda, yadda, hipsters, I know, reddit).
Maybe Venus Patrol? Or Kill Screen? The problem with the more high brow sites is that they update much less often. But I'll always have some bearable subreddit to do the "breaking news" coverage for me.
If you like Diablo 3 style gameplay http://www.drakensang.com/ is a kick ass online MMO version of that style. Pretty damn fun and they continue to release content.
edit: I don't work for them or have any association with them, I just played it for a while and enjoyed it.
Also http://www.planetside2.com/ is coming out Nov 20th F2P. It's a MMOFPS. kinda like Halo or Battlefield:1942 MMO style. reminds more of Section8:Prejudice than anything else. It's currently in beta.
and http://www.kongregate.com/ has a shit tone of free games to play.
Realm of the Mad God is a fun 8-bit MMO. It's on Steam, Kongregate and it's own site.
OK, so our TR here is not the same TR that is on earth(the one there is rather democtatic from what i read) you know we are cut out from Earth beacause the wormhole callapsed it had to do something with a coup http://www.planetside2.com/news/feb3backstory by some people not being part of NC yet everyone think it was done by NC. And even if TR is in war with NC and VS, so now there is no place for democracy. :)
You have to buy $40 worth of sony bucks, but your instantly in the beta.
You get some extra gear on launch, and all the sony bucks can be used to purchase in game currency.
No prices have been set yet for the game.
I don't really have any as of right now. This is a video I'm putting together for my outfit channel (gaming clan, basically) in Planetside 2. The channel is here, although it's empty right now. The reason I was looking for a good electrohouse song was because my clan plays on the Vanu Sovereignty faction, who are basically a transhumanist techno-cult who uses advanced alien technology to fight the other two factions, which consist of a totalitarian fascist regime and a group of rebel space hicks. Awesome lasers and antigravity tech come into play there, and their in-game soundtrack is all electronic, so I wanted to continue the theme with my video.
The download button is dead for me anyhow. Nothing happens when I press it. :D
EDIT If this happens to you: 1. Press sign up on main page 2. Login 3. Go to http://www.planetside2.com/download and press download
just did another check of the website and the wiki/google. TR weapons start being showcased here http://www.planetside2.com/news11 and continue on to here http://www.planetside2.com/news10 there are pics in the news section of their site for every knife except the TR chainblade. I found this blacked out pic of the chainblade on this forum from a while ago http://www.paxgaming.com/index.php?topic=7588.0 but that is the closest I can get. the pic on the wiki is a ? mark as well so Im stumped.
Does anyone have a link to a pic or know which video has a shot of it?
My job as a beta tester will be to stress-test the planetside2.com/download page. I'm going to reload it every five seconds.
Read the lore stuff on the news section of the planetside 2 site. It's a pretty interesting read.
The TR on Earth weren't really that bad, but what the TR became after the ships went through the wormhole is a bit too tyrannical for my taste.
It's automatic, PS1 veterans and PC Gamer key holders will get the first run at the open beta. Just make sure you're signed up for the beta on the planetside website with the same SOE account you had PS1 on and you'll be fine.
http://www.planetside2.com/news/june-2012-producers-letter-beta The end of this letter from the executive producer says its will begin on the 27th but the large volume may make it take longer for some.
There is the official site.
There is no information regarding minimum system requirements (ram, processor, graphics card ECT).
Doesn't even say what operating system either.
Edit if you go to the official sony entertainment page it has some info about it being for PC, but I can't find info about ram and other requirements.
Here are the times:
> Tuesday, June 5th – 3:00 PM PT – 5:00 PM PT
> Wednesday, June 6th - 3:00 PM PT – 5:00 PM PT
> Thursday, June 7th – 11:00 AM PT – 1:00 PM PT
Via here.

>The high modularity of the Cycler weapon system allows Heavy Assault solders to field the battlefield with variants outfitted with heavy 20' barrels and 100 round drum magazines. The slight loss in accuracy is more than made up for in sustained fire and makes any Heavy Assault soldier deadly at close range.
Love the rate you guys are giving out information. :)
I took a job with Sony Online and we are working on Planetside 2. It's really strange how once you've worked on about 20 games, the interviews get a lot easier and the level of deference/respect is way higher. This group with whom I working is very professional and unlike most games companies, doesn't have a high level of drama and poor management.
Everything that you see here is already functional and in the game and we have a lot of other stuff too.
It'll be a good game and it is starting to look like a MoH killer. We'll see.
How's life?
There really hasn't been much teaser media released for the game yet at all.
But the first trailer they released several months ago showed quite a few players. You can see it http://www.planetside2.com/ there if you click "play trailer"
