Feel like a corporate shill for linking to an ad, please don't sign up for this anybody! Read this post for why VPNs are stupid and you shouldn't sign up for one: https://gist.github.com/joepie91/5a9909939e6ce7d09e29
> So why do VPN services exist? Surely they must serve some purpose?
> Because it's easy money. You just set up OpenVPN on a few servers, and essentially start reselling bandwidth with a markup. You can make every promise in the world, because nobody can verify them. You don't even have to know what you're doing, because again, nobody can verify what you say. It is 100% snake-oil.
I expect OP posted this as part of a marketing campaign. Let's make sure it doesn't work :)
Not really. It is not like they have Surfshark, which is 83% off via their Black Friday deal.
New VPN in town SurfShark did not yet let me down. Got it after my Express subscription deserted me this month. Since they are new, the servers are not overloaded and the speed is really great. However, they do not have desktop applications, only extensions for browsers. Since it suits my needs, Rick would approve. Lets hope the Shark will not tell a lie and hurt me.
I see this as a guide since it details the steps you can take. Taken from an Employee Surveillance Report - pardon the long image, it’s better seen on the article, or you can zoom in
Here is what Surfshark says on the topic. Police can find certain information about you even if you are using VPNs, even without logs.
This one’s from a corporate blog of a product I use, their methodology seemed legit and the findings seemed interesting enough to share here.
They analyzed over 200 apps to see which collect the most and least data across 32 data types. The findings are presented through infographics, one for each type of app (browsers, social media, e-mail, messaging, etc.) Included a few here.
There’s also an interactive table where you can find the least “data-hungry” app from each category (what I found most useful from this).
The source and their methodology: here.
Nord definitely works, just need to look for newer servers. I'm also trying a new VPN, it's called Surfshark. The fact that it is new ensures that is not blocked yet, so they work with Netflix. Just check them out, I know that not many people heard of it yet but It looks promising (the speed surprises me) https://surfshark.com/
You should try using https://surfshark.com/, my friend told me about it (he is a little bit of a VPN geek), this VPN is new in town, so it shouldn't be blocked. And as you know China loves to block VPNs. Also they have unlimited number of devices so all your family could use it easily. P.s. have a nice trip !
> Basic billing information and order history.
> We collect only the basic billing information (e. g. payment amount, currency, date of the payment, card expiry date) and order history to process your orders and to comply with applicable legal requirements. We also support anonymous payment methods (you can purchase the Services with cryptocurrency). If you make payments using our third-party payment service providers, all payment data you provide will rest with them. To understand what personal information the payment service providers collect and store, please refer to the respective provider’s terms and privacy policy.
To process payments they need to hold onto your payment information as according to their local laws. You always could use Crypto as your preferred payment option if you’re that concerned.
That chart appears exactly nowhere in the actual report, and no one who actually uses the internet in this country would believe it anyway. And they already know that one of the main reasons that chart is a lie is because of Telstra.
Seriously, fuck Telstra.
Edit: Wait, I found it. It's from 2019. And I still don't believe it.
Well, I have switched to Surfshark after some issues with VyrVPN and they seem to be working here without issues. Usually default application settings do work ok unless you are using public network and some ports might be blocked. TCP and 443 do have better chances of working in such networks as from my experience.
Surfshark One is a package that includes the vpn, anti virus and other security oriented services. If you are interested in those then it is the deal offered. https://surfshark.com/one
The vpn service is the same for the bundle deal. Personally I would only get the vpn service as it is good.
If you have your real IP exposed most likely it is a WebRTC leak. Basically WebRTC is a technology which allows your browser to connect directly with other browsers via IP used on sites like Discord or Google Hangout to get better connections. Surfshark has a guide about how to disable WebRTC on your browser.
Additionally maybe even after solving the WebRTC leak, you can still have a DNS leak which should not expose your real IP but it's still a privacy and security risk because it may give access of your online activity to your ISP. About this problem I'm not very sure how to solve it apart of installing the Surfshark app on your computer and connect to the VPN again on your PC.
They definitely seem to be. I use it for streaming and torrenting mostly, good speeds, easy to use. Quite cheap too, check r/vpncoupons if you decide on it, there's a thread with good deals
I use Surfshark. I used a code from Fightful to get 83% off. I believe you can also use a code from Wrestling with Wregret as well.
Has worked great for me.

That's an interesting point about the towers. The UK servers page on the website didn't have those towers in January.
I calculated the midpoint of the coordinates of those three towers but it looks like it's just some residential property so I doubt it's that.
I use Surfshark, which is located in the British Virgin Island, solid privacy protection, no logs, strong encryption, kill switch for leak protection, multi hop options, over 1,000 IPs located in over 60 countries, clean web and ad blocker options, handles streaming well and can be used on unlimited number of devices.
It's also cheap. You can download the app, but with coupon deal below, it's $1.99/month. (I got even better deal though during Black Friday)
Well, they definetly don't respect your privacy. Just look at trackers on their website. Bunch of Facebook, Cloudflare, Microsoft trackers etc.
Also, take a deeper look at their Privacy Policy.

I would recommend looking into Surfshark VPN, It's a perfect VPN for a first time user (really simple to understand and use). The price is acceptable, at least for me. They let you connect an unlimited number of devices, so I just share one account with the whole family. They have Black Friday deals right now, for example, this one https://surfshark.com/black-friday?coupon=blackshark
Strange subreddit imho, but indeed, if you are using HTTP (Not HTTPS) and public Wi-Fi. All of-the traffic is easily track able in plain text. Learned it the hard way once - got my CC info stolen. Got Surfshark subscription (They give you unlimited devices) and shared it with all of my buddies and family. Make sure to get one for your needs before using the public networks, it is not safe.
Buy a VPN that is not blocked by Crunchyroll or Netflix. They don't cost that much. For example, I'm using a new VPN https://surfshark.com/, they have an unlimited number of devices so I just share the cost with friends
I would recommend trying smaller, new VPN's because there is a big possibility that they won't be blocked. I'm trying beta version of new VPN right now https://surfshark.com/, they have several cons, but overall they have really good speed and you can connect with unlimited number of devices so you can share with your buddies which is pretty cool.
The Mi Box on Takealot. And then Surfshark requires a subscription (I have the 2-year deal).
(Technically you don't need the Mi if your TV has access to the Google Play store, so just check if you can find the app)
You have to download the Surfshark app from the Play Store and sign in with your details. You then have to select a server you want to connect to (We, for example, connect to a British server). In the Connectivity options of Surfshark you can select Auto connect. In the Advanced settings tab, set the Override GPS Location on (look at me, hopping all over the world in an instant).
Some apps cache your data, so you will have to Google how to clear the cache (you can sign out and in as well). Or you can wait a while and the apps will update the cache.
Just a note, sometimes I struggle with apps to update the location, so it is not "the perfect" solution.
Also, the internet is full of these types of solutions, so it is but a mere search away.
There is no way to accurately indicate how many hackers are in each game, but this article tries it's best. It's based off of views on youtube for hacking tutorials so it definitely does not show the amount of hackers, but more of the interest in hacking for each game. Apex is one of the lowest.
I personally use and recommend https://surfshark.com/ it's cheaper than most VPNs and works with Netflix. (Also it gives you unlimited devices which is nice because I just share the password to my account with my friends and they can use it too)
> Are you using a provided client? If so you can try setting it up manually with OpenVPN, it could just be a faulty Linux client.
https://surfshark.com/blog/how-to-set-up-a-vpn-on-linux
I used instructions from above.
> Also, for the record, private tabs on any browser ONLY block history, it does nothing for actual privacy (proxies, vpns). You still have all the same trackers, cookies etc.
I thought private tab would not use cookies / trackers. Would clearing cookies enough to do a test? Cannot test right now. but will try with a different browser and clearing data on chrome
Lol, a VPN won't protect you either. If there's a court order, they can go through your ISP and request connection or usage logs. Since your ISP would know you're using a VPN, they'll turn your ass over to the police in a heartbeat for some horrendous shit like that. Hope OP and his "HS friend" are planning on moving to Belize or Mexico! https://surfshark.com/blog/can-police-track-vpn
Their website seems to be pretty clear on how they elaborate on that screenshot you have. Make what you will with it. There’s more to go on than what is in that pic. In all it seems to be good looking to me and I haven’t found much reason for concern. Check out their privacy policy and see what you think.
And to add to that, they should be able to tell you what their DNS servers are.
For instance, I use Surfshark and they have a whole page dedicated to explaining DNS setup... https://surfshark.com/dns-leak-test
You should! It’s great!! All you need is a VPN (50% off Surf Shark for 6 months). Then you can watch them on Global’s website, or you can watch season 4, 5 and 6 free on YouTube.
Awe I'm sorry mate. I would try getting a VPN some give you month or even three month trials. There's this guy Pleasant Green and he uses Surf Shark. It's 83% off and an extra free month. Here's the link and the code is PLEASANTGREEN.

It really depends on the VPN and the router. Nord vpn as a guide for some of them And an other one for Surfshark As Surfshark says, not all router are VPN client compatible, so you'll need to do some research first to be safe.
I have this one https://surfshark.com/, it's been pretty good to me, I can torrent with no worries of getting caught and don't encounter annoying speed drops with it. Also heard good things about Vypr and VPN Unlimited, but haven't tried them myself. Surfshark is the first VPN I used.
There is a nice article about this https://surfshark.com/blog/why-article-13-wont-work they even tested if the article 13 would work, I think we should not worry about it.
I enjoy the show with a help of Surfshark VPN (https://surfshark.com/), just connect to UK servers and you are good to go. There are of course more VPNs which would help you to do this, but not many of them work with iPlayer.
I am almost sure the subscription is for 12 months. I do have a Surfshark VPN connected to a random server in America, no issues with stuttering or not being able to enter something.
Well, I do not know a thing about that, but I am using Surfshark successfully in China. They are quire small, so might have not been tracked enough to be blocked yet. *Happy*
Are you referring to a VPN server in Argentina or using VPN while in Argentina? I just got myself subscription of SurfShark to unlock Netflix. No issues with that one so far. Make sure to get one with no logs policy and get a read if it provides you with the service you will be using the VPN for. Free VPNs are risky, you do not want to get tracked and logged.
Ist der beste und günstigste VPN Anbieter den ich kenne.
I’ve never played Fortnite, so I don’t have first hand experience. This study shows they have the most by far. Again they have significantly more players and the metric they use is YouTube video hits so I don’t know how that translates. Fortnite also doesn’t have a kill cam, so when you die to a guy with aim bots or wall hacks it’s much harder to know. With siege you can see it happening as soon as you die. So it may seem like you encounter more hackers because you see it first hand as soon as it happens.
Again, this is all a matter of opinion, but for me a console player I’ve never enjoyed the game more than I am right now.

OK. First, bitdefender seems to be an Antivirus Software? It's the general consensus that you don't need antivirus on Linux I've used Linux as a Desktop OS for over Ten years and never had a situation where I would have needed Antivirus.
Surfshark seems to provide a command line client for Linux. But they also offer OpenVPN connection files those you should be easily able to import in NetwotkManager and then connect directly through network manager (with a little toogle in the Menu)
Wine is an application that translates Windows calls into something Linux understands so it enables you to run Windows executables.
Lutris is a Platform that allows you to manage applications and settings (i.e. wine versions, app specific options etc.). Lutris offers wine (and other compatibility tools) to download right from the app. So installing Lutris is enough you don't need to manually install wine as well.
If you do have steam that also provides you with an easy way of running a lot of games with proton (which is wine but built into steam)
You generally don't need to mess with a firewall. If you're in on a Home internet connection your Router will usually be enough of a firewall.
Other than that I can only recommend that you have a backup of important stuff (that's not a Linux specific tip) and that you have some fun tinkering. Try some stuff out, break something, learn how to fix it (or reinstall ;) ) and use your Computer for what you need it for. If you run into problems feel free to come back here and ask.
Bitdefender not needed, use official repos and you are good
Surfshark supports ubuntu: https://surfshark.com/download/linux
Lutris is enough
Theres a firewall application preinstalled, and the "help" app has instructions at least on ubuntu
See this: https://youtu.be/o2vkgVZvkVQ
>Could you please elaborate on that?
iam not u/Dibbyo123 but fine.
the Company isnt transparent aka doesnt say anything about issues , etas , or anything.
Took 2 months to fix their killswitch , they now have delay issues which neither the support nor the subreddit mods know.
they have a confidential Agreement with filmmakers just made that no one at surfshark knows for some reason obviously also no one knows what they "Agreed" to cause it isnt server blocking it seems.
they have a warrant canary which still shows "0 , 0 ,0"
Like nothing happened.
iam also a "Surfshark Hero" over at their sub they started to delete less after multiple people didnt like it but their sub was long ran with deleting tons.

yes i was 2 years entirely happy with their service but now they run from 1 issue into another since a few months.

You can read through the whole study here. Some highlights:
It’s worth noting that a single request can cover multiple pieces of content, and multiple requests can be made against the same content.
Sources and methodology:
This study analyzes data from Google’s Transparency Report. We filtered the data by location, volume of requests between 2011-2020, volume of requests in 2020 alone, and the top reason for requests in each country and globally.
Note: reasons with very low figures were grouped into the "Other" category. These reasons are: Suicide Promotion, Geographical Dispute, Electoral Law, Impersonation, Regulated Goods & Services, Reason Unspecified, and Other.

My own experience has been a lot more positive. It's fast on multiple devices and I've never experienced leaks. I've only been using it for ~3 months, so hopefully it's because they've cleaned up their service a bit!.
The general consensus on Reddit has been that Surfshark is still reccomended: https://surfshark.com/compare
So I use a VPN which means that I can change my IP address to many places around the world.
By enabling the developer options on Android, I can also get the VPN to change my GPS location to wherever I'm supposed to be.
So for instance I can be at any of these places.

And of course that's just a small selection. That just happens to fit on the phone's screen. There's a choice of 3200 servers in 65 countries.
ROTFL! Line at the end of this article should be one of the first, and on their advertisements
>Surfshark VPN does not support port forwarding
What is port forwarding and does it work with a VPN https://surfshark.com/blog/vpn-port-forwarding
I personally prefer Signal, but Moxie saying that "there is no worse choice" than Telegram is a clear exaggeration and frankly disingenuous.
Making a multi-threaded post on one of the least aggregious messengers makes him look bitter, especially since Signal is sitting at a little over 50M downloads and Telegram is at 1Billion. Let's be honest here, more people are flocking to Telegram than Signal out of a matter of convenience and an overall more polished experience/usability. The average person simply doesn't care or has a vague understanding on what benefits privacy messengers offer.
A common sense approach would be to actually analyze the things that are useful in Telegram, and give people a reason to switch because you offer something equal or better without the collection of data.
No, the problem is your poor understanding to understand other people needs. People just don't subscribe VPN based on your philosophy/theoretical/academic reason "that has never been the purpose of VPN". Screwed that philosophy and look at this: https://surfshark.com/use-cases/vpn-for-streaming
"Stream award-winning shows and movies safely regardless of where you are."
It was advertised to make people believe streaming is works on surfshark. but it is not. some people purposely subscribe vpn for this reason.
Let me explained bit more - In order to watch a Netflix show on my computer, VPN needs to be turned off. The show is even meant for my region and my subscription. Hence, I need to close my browser and all others internet applications to ensure my real IP does not leak except to Neflix. How is that purpose of VPN according to your philosophy?
Hi there,
The CleanWeb ad-blocking feature isn't designed to block YouTube ads. There's a disclaimer about this on the features page. And here's a support article that goes more in depth about its functionality.
Cheers!
Hey! r/surfshark mod here.
The Surfshark Bypasser is our split tunneling feature. It has two options:
So when having the VPN on and wanting certain traffic to not be routed through it, use the “Bypass” option. And when wanting only specific traffic to be routed through the VPN and everything else not, use the “Route via” option.
Here’s our blog article explaining the Bypasser feature in depth, and here’s our support page in case you'd like to have a chat with one of our agents.
Hope this helps!
You should read what your consumer reports article links to do in their VPN analysis.
Surfshark has been security audited recently, offers the same tier of privacy and security of the ones they labeled as the top VPNs the down ticks against it were for not being open source and for misleading marketing. Surfshark does however keep connection quality logs and device info that is allegedly deleted in 15 minutes. Details also below.
Audit information: audit article
Actual logged data as outlined in the policy: Surfshark policy
If you're worried, buy a travel router and use it to connect to a personal vpn server in the US. You can use surfshark.com or whoever. Then connect your IBM laptop to the travel router's wifi before connecting to the IBM vpn. Its pretty much how every digital nomad in the world manages to get around country restrictions. Google Slate Travel Router if looking for hardware examples.
This.
Also, if you have a problem with the NFT sponsor, I would like to see the same criticism for VPN sponsors as well. VPNs can be the same sort of scam. The technology of a VPN is clear and concise. Nothing too complicated or ground breaking. Yet the marketing of the companies are a bit misleading.
Look at destiny's VPN sponsor: https://surfshark.com/
The claims aren't too bad, but desiny would only shill for the "watching tv shows in other locations" part of a VPN. Not the vague privacy claims that surf shark makes. Although they aren't lying on their website, there is a lot on that website about privacy and protection.
I don't care about NFT sponsors or VPN sponsors. It is all the same to me.

its not as bad as germany but actually not anymore the best since a few years.

Surfshark does a yearly Privacy index , and internet quality index with some tons of information not regarding their VPN at all so its pretty neutral and informative.
My VPN says the following - https://surfshark.com/blog/can-police-track-vpn
"For example, if your VPN provider is under the US or the EU jurisdiction, they can’t claim to be no-logs. Let me be clear about this, most premium VPNs don’t monitor your browsing activity day-in-day-out, but they can keep connection logs, IP addresses, session information, or used bandwidth."
I don't personally know what the legislation in the US is that requires logs to be kept.
Hey! r/surfshark mod here.
We don’t currently support IPv6, yes, so we advise our users disable it. In the case you can’t do it yourself, we suggest you get in touch with your ISP to see if they could do it for you.
You will however be good to torrent as long as you check your IP isn’t leaking - we’ve got our own tool for just that, as well as a guide covering the whole process.
Please feel free to post any such questions on our sub once you’ve gone over them with our support - we’d love to have you as part of our community. Cheers!
To answer your questions:
1) Yes! Surfshark servers offer obsfucation which attempt to mask patterns in the packets your device send.
2) No-Borders is perfectly fine to have enabled 24/7, however if you’re experiencing connection issues you may want to try disabling it for troubleshooting purposes
3) I recommend you always use the desktop application as it gives you more control over your connection, i personally use the web-extension purely for quick server swapping for my browser (say for example a site flags my IP i can just switch locations with the extension without killing my actual connection)
4) I would suggest sticking with OpenVPN UDP or Wireguard for the most trustworthy connection, IKEv2 is a protocol designed by Microsoft & Cisco and is suppose to work fluently with Windows and Shadow-Socks is purely designed to mask your browsers traffic only (not your entire system)
5) Use Clean-Web & No-borders, OpenVPN or Wireguard as your protocols an stick with multi-hop servers.
If you want to prevent leaking of your IP turn off any start-up applications on windows and have a batch file open them only after your connection to SS has been made.
Use a non-american VPN provider and avoid making your social media personal, avoid putting up pictures of yourself, name and do not use a personal email address >!(ensure the the email also isn’t tied to you in any way, i suggest using Temp-Mail or 10 Minute Mail).!<
Everyone deserves a private digital life.
Long story short, yes it will most likely show up on your account.
Google will also use your IP to help identify who you are, what device is being used and what data / information that device is looking for, and if the data matches what their servers have than it’s likely that whatever you searched will appear within your suggested feed on your account.
This is why certain VPN providers get praised for their privacy and security.
>!Edit: you can download your google accounts data here. Chances are not everything you’ve done on google will appear within this data.!<
Blame the companies that sell your personal information, Google, Facebook, Microsoft you name it will likely sell your information off to ad-networks.
Use a VPN along side that use TempMail or 10 Minute Mail for the accounts you need to have but don’t use all the time.
> gay people

You seem to have taken these numbers from an advert for VPN services: https://surfshark.com/surveillance-cities
Here's how they cite their sources: > We gathered multiple sources to determine the number of CCTV cameras in the world's 150 most populous cities.
It's literally an ad
You’re probably spamming refresh a bunch or site hopping a lot which flagged your IP as a possible bot-net.
You can either wait till they unblock you or get a solid VPN provider that can help circumvent this.
> Not sure if this is relevant but the IP address is very long and changes each time
When you say “each time” what do you mean? Every time you restart your PC? Disconnect from your wireless/wired network?
Reason i ask is if your Network Card is from Intel they typically offer a reset IP after restart option within the settings >!It’s a nice feature to have!< this may be the reason it’s changing
The reason it’s so long is because you’re looking at your IPv6 address rather than your IPv4 address. Learn more here
VPN my fren.
I used pixelsmixel's code for Surfshark, not sure if you're a fan of her's (a lot of content creators have VPN deals so yeah, take your pick): https://surfshark.com/deal/influencer?coupon=PXL&utm_source=Partner&utm_medium=90156
Hey! Hope you’re doing well!
Surfshark would be right up your ally! All you would need to do is setup an account here (with a promo code) and advise your students to visit the Chinese version of the Surfshark site here (Some times the normal site will work as well).
Surfshark has no device limit, so all your students can work off of one account and are offered a plethora of servers in which they can use!
I was just replying on what the op said about the Stadia being a physical product as well.
Also, no, you're not limited to amazon on a fire stick. It supports all streaming services.

>You don't need a premier edition to play on Stadia. You don't need a subscription. All you need is a web browser and you can purchase a game.
I never said otherwise.
Reading this article Surfshark supports Wireguard, OpenVPN UDP & TCP, IKEv2 and ShadowSocks, unfortunately if you read this article PPTP is outdated and obsolete,
> Why PPTP is considered obsolete
> PPTP is a direct predecessor of PPP, an even older Point-to-Point Protocol, and is built on its outdated framework. It can use three authentication protocols, out of which two (PAP and CHAP) are known to have been breached and exploited before, and only supports MPPE (Microsoft Point-to-Point Encryption) encryption keys of up to 128-bits.
> 128-bit keys are usually not that easy to crack, but MPPE is infamous for being extra vulnerable to bit-flipping attacks.
> Ironically, however, PPTP’s downfalls are also its only saving grace – bad encryption means small overhead, which directly increases speed. So because of its abysmal security, PPTP actually remains, by a small margin, one of the faster VPN protocols to date.
> It is also easy to set up, which, when paired with its speed, might make it seem like a viable VPN protocol.
> However, the PPTP ice is thicker than that. Aside from its lack of security, the protocol also struggles to bypass firewalls and can have compatibility issues with routers.
I don’t believe Surfshark natively supports the PPTP protocol.
> How do I protect myself from this?
Get a VPN, once you get yourself a solid VPN provider you won’t have to worry about people grabbing your IP.
>!<
Try a VPN and see if the issue persists, if it does it’s a Ubisoft issue if it doesn’t then it’s on your end.
Edit 1: never turn off your routers firewall, you never know who has your IP / open-port logged they can abuse it quite easily even if it’s for a short period.
I mistakenly read syncler as surfshark as I was also on another post about surfshark not working with virgin at the time 🙄
Red the links and faq for this sub-reddit, or the automod message here. It has what you need.
Quick web search has many results on country catalog. Here's one example:
I guess you're right with your Robokast example then. Had a look when I had this idea but did no find any example like this one. All the examples I found were in the format surfshark.deals/X - redirects to surfshark.com/deals?coupon=X.
Maybe they do it like this for bigger influencers. Anyway, I think we can close this door then.
Thank you. The result of Google for me is different, but the second article in your suggestion (https://surfshark.com/blog/smart-dns-vs-vpn) answers my question adequately.
Backup in case something happens to the post:
The US ranks 27th out of 85 studied countries based on internet affordability, is surpassed by China and India
Would have never thought that China and India have more affordable internet than the US, but evidently they do, according to this study. The US ranks just 27th on the list, while Canada, for example, is 2nd. Other key findings from the study were recently featured by Statista which is how I came to know about this.
Interesting findings, and dare I say not common knowledge?

Proxy and VPN are similar in that both involve a middleman between your computer and the internet, this article explains the difference between the two. Tor directs your traffic through its own network and is just a browser. Here’s an article explaining the difference between all three.
I use Surfshark and like it. Unlimited devices, no logs, decent number of server locations, etc.
If you have slow internet speed, I would suggest Nord as it's technically "the fastest" IIRC.
Mhm, they do alert about if both credit card numbers or identity numbers appear in leaked databases. So far it worked with my personal email account and my work one. Pretty decent tool
Není pravda. Americký Netflix má o 16 % titulů více. Lépe než český Netflix je na tom z Evropy jenom UK a Irsko, přibližně stejně jako my mají v Maďarsku a na Slovensku.

You can actually without a PC but idk if you get the same region swapping benefits. They offer something for ps4/ps5 only, here's the link. I run it on PC so it's uncharted territory for me.

How to install a VPN for Linux Installing a Linux VPN is a little more involved than downloading it, but it isn’t hard.
Once you have downloaded the installer, open the terminal (CTRL+ALT+T in Ubuntu).
Type in sudo apt-get install {/path/to/}surfshark-release_1.0.0-1.1_amd64.deb into the terminal and press Enter.
To update it, enter sudo apt-get update.
Complete installing Surfshark with the command sudo apt-get install surfshark-vpn.
You are now ready to use your Linux VPN! After installing Surfshark, you can command it via the terminal.
open terminal in the folder that contains the .deb and execute the install command.
“Police can't track live, encrypted VPN traffic, but if they have a court order, they can go to your ISP (internet service provider) and request connection or usage logs. Since your ISP knows you're using a VPN, they can direct the police to them.”

People do it everyday yes. But many are outside of US jurisdictions and that doesn’t mean you won’t get in trouble. Not to mention you’ll be tracked by battle eye and be banned, also possibly penalizing your teammates as well
How can you get mad at cheaters if you’re no better than them?
Anonymous online... Good joke.
If you think you are anonymous online you haven't been paying attention to anything over the past 10 years.
You're anonymous so long a service providers are not issued an official warrant for your information.
Otherwise tough cheddar old bean VPN is not immune to the legal steam roller.
You are anonymous so long as you are innocuous.
Also VPN is not a license to be a dick to someone or harrass them, especially as harrassment is very illegal and not innocuous.
Laws don't just stop because you are online, in fact if anything every law from every country could apply and you can be extradited for the shit you may do or say online as it's in writing. Assange right now is fighting a legal battle to keep the 'anonymous' sources of his intel secret, but the history is always there and the ISPs will eventually also have that same legal steam roller crushing the info out of them.
You think people don't have Hulu and HBO in Europe? This is pretty hilarious.
Also I've only encountered the issue on Netflix - which you can come around with a free simple VPN - and even then there are a few options there not available in the US. This is normal when streaming services run on exclusive contracts.

Always count on an American to think they're special... in a thread about people thinking they're special for the same reason everyone is having a laugh.
This is some r/selfawarewolves stuff
https://surfshark.com/deals?coupon=redditsellout
That coupon isn't working. USD $59.76 is what it gives me. Basically a 1yr price + 12 months free basically averaging $2.49/month over the 24 months.
Yeah got great Surfshark 3 year deal, works out so cheap. Still on now, works out less than £2/month!
Saw a blog post on surfshark's blog that there's a vpn sales surge there as they start to block social media. So I'd suggest them. Also here's the article
To add to this: If you're paying for a premium VPN make sure:
It also helps if the VPN servers are located in a country where the Government respects Internet Privacy.
So lets break this down a bit. Internet comes in through the modem and into your router. This gives everything on your network internet. Your computer is connected to the internet through your Ethernet cable. Now you want to setup another network from your PC and it be used as a VPN. Let's assume this is possible. That chromecast is not actually connected to your computer, do you understand that? The router is gate keeper here. Your computer sends a commend from the computer through the your network cable or wifi TO the router, then to the chromecast. This is why regardless of how you send the commends to the router, they will be filtered from the router to the chromecast. On top of that, as I mentioned a chromecast can't be setup as a VPN, it's not designed that way.
Check this out.

When it comes to streaming and geo-blocking issues, the usual answer is “get a VPN.” However, Chromecast is merely a receiver that accepts signals from apps that support the Google Cast protocol. The dongle itself is dumb as a brick. This means that you can’t install a VPN on Chromecast. What can you do in this case?
Well, you can get smart and install a VPN on your router – or turn your computer into a virtual router. That way, you can have your Chromecast and enjoy a multitude of VPN-related benefits.
The way you're going about this issue is 100% wrong, what you want to do, may be possible, just not the way you're attempting to solve it. And that's because you don't understand how networking works.
