Use youtube centre add ons https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki then disable DASH playback, after that you can pause your videos and it will buffer till end of the videos, just like the old time, but the max resolution while using this feature is only 720p though
If anyone is having trouble installing that:
Download the Developer Version (YouTubeCenter.crx
)
Rename the .crx to .zip, unzip it to a directory somewhere (such as C:\YouTubeCenter
), make sure you preserve directory structure when unzipping
Enable Developer Mode in Chrome's Extensions page (check box at the very top), then click "Load unpacked extension..." and point to the directory you unzipped the files to.
You have to do it this way now since Chrome will no longer enable .crx extensions not installed from the Chrome Web Store. This is to prevent malware from installing Chrome extensions without your knowledge/permission. It's kind of a pain but probably necessary.
I use this youtube userscript and Video Deck to make youtube better. Custom columns with subs filtered by comedy/politics/etc on a dark background is much more intuitive to me. The userscript disables all the youtube bollocks and adds a lot of good features.
Another comment mentioned the Iridium userscript which I'll look into too. Anything to make youtube better / suck less!
Important to take note of this comment for Youtube Center:
Here's a link to the github if you want to compile it yourself: https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter
To download the almost latest (295), go on the github website above, navigate to the Dist folder and download YouTubeCenter.xpi and firefox-update.rdf (click raw to get the downloadable version, right click in the page and "save page as...") , then manually install the extensions from a file (click on the Cog thing in Add-ons manager) and select YoutubeCenter.xpi .
This is because the current version of Youtube Center on the Mozilla download page is out of date and due to Firefox and Youtube updates, mostly no longer works.
Use something like Magic Actions or Youtube Center. You can do all sorts of stuff, like deactivating annotations ~~(not sure if you can do this with Youtube Center)~~.
I'm a fan of the YouTube Center Developer Build personally. Loads of customization options for YouTube, my favorite being the ability to disable DASH playback.
Download Youtube center, go to settings, disable DASH playback. Issue sorted. There's also a ton of customisation available, once you use YTC you'll never go back!
If you're not using the Developer Version, give it a go. I've been using it for a couple months now and it's doing everything it's supposed to.
Updates maybe twice a week, so it's definitely still alive.. not sure why the version on AMO isn't updated anymore but at least there's an alternative.
Same here. But be shure to use dev version fom this link: https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/raw/master/dist/YouTubeCenter.user.js
Main version from their home page link is outdated with lots of bugs.
Yeah, DASH is what causes you to load the video in small parts at a time. Have you tried Youtube Center? I'm using the userscriopt with Greasemonkey on Firefox (which I've found works better than the addon). Not sure how well it works in Chrome.
[](/twismile) Indeed, there is a memory leak in the extension. The latest commit says it has been fixed (probably). So users can either wait for the update (whenever that will be), use the unstable dev build, or switch to another extension.
Plus it's better to use the developer version. It has some occasional bugs but they're resolved pretty quickly and it's always up to date.
Try getting YouTube Center (Firefox extension) and toggle DASH playback (basically makes videos act like they used to rather than this new buffering system. Might help? Glad I got off VM, anyhow, remember it getting steadily worse about the time I moved.
Chrome - Dissenter (still chrome based so easy change)
Google Docs - Microsoft Office (one evil corp for another but they're less cucked, $20/user/year, my family and I get a lot of value out of the subscription)
Google Drive - One Drive (Integration into Windows is convenient especially with MS Office)
Google Search - DuckDuckGo
GMail - Outlook mail (Alias feature and interface are much better than Gmail imo)
I use thunderbird to consolidate multiple email accounts into one application, I prefer it to MS Outlook but only just.
Youtube with adblock and this script or something similar is really good, there's nothing you can do to replace youtube really, though you could start using bitchute for those that have crossposted there, and do the rest of your viewing on YT. I also use https://youtube.videodeck.net/ which is a much better interface than YT itself for organizing your regular YT watching, for example my YTVD.
For Chrome install Tampermonkey and download the Userscipt (first link).
For that there's always Magic Actions or YouTube Center. The latter I've found can run slowly if you have a lot of tabs open (but it's got an excellent array of features), and I haven't tried the former because I use Firefox, but people say a lot of good things about it.
There are numerous addons that can fix this. The one I use is this: https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version
After you install it, disable "DASH playback" and videos will fully buffer.
You can try the developers edition which is working perfectly for me, I have it because the normal version wasn't working for me anymore.
It's on github https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version
Direct link https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/raw/master/dist/YouTubeCenter.xpi
Drag the downloaded file into the browser, from there it will be just like installing any other add-on. You don't need to remove the old one, and it should keep your settings. But it's a good idea to export your settings first, you can do that in the YouTube Center settings console on Youtube.com
YouTubeCenter has a known memory leak in its current version (unless they've fixed it in the last couple of weeks and I haven't noticed). Try the developer version if you aren't (https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version)
If that fails, I would advise visiting about:memory and measuring; perhaps something there will stand out, or if you're comfortable with people seeing what's listed there you could take a screenshot or copy-paste the info onto a service like pastebin (which has an option to make the paste public or unlisted).
I would also make sure Flash is updated in your Firefox plugins (not addons) section, because it isn't bundled with Firefox like it is in Chrome, so it might be using an older version that's flaking out now.
Userscripts don't have any browser specific code, so yes - it'll work. Check out their website and it looks like they have an actual Firefox extension too: https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki
YouTube Center is my go-to YouTube plugin/addon/extension. I use the beta for FireFox, but there is a chrome version too. It let's you pretty much change whatever you want when it comes to player size, resolution, etc.
Here's a link: https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki
On the other end you annoy power users once you start limiting what software you can install.
For instance youtube center.
https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki
Is constantly disabled in chrome as a result of chrome's security unless you install the dev version. Plus all the people who got mad about UAC on vista.
That said I think MS is actually working on Powershell based package management to go along with their windows store in windows 10.
It seems to be a side-effect of DASH playback, which is a streaming protocol that YouTube switched to a few years ago (ironically, to save bandwidth). The YouTube Center extension has an option to disable DASH playback, which, among other things, makes the video no longer re-download when you replay it.

I just realize how many must-have addons are out there....
Try using the dev version. It's actually supported unlike the main version (new versions usually come out the day Google introduces a bug). It will also detect and notify you when updates are available. It also allows you to force rendering of videos in flash if you so desire.
Also, if you have problems running 1080p60 html5 videos, try h264ify. Just make sure that hardware acceleration is enabled.
Just to clarify some things beforehand:
Yes, I went to the YouTube comment section, I am clearly out of my mind.
Yes, I'm not from the states, that's why you see strange German words.
Those neat country flags are one of many features from an extension called YouTube Center.
Never switch to IE. Ever.
You can use the Youtube Center Chrome Plugin to force using the Flash Player. Download it from here. You will have to directly install it though, which is just dragging the file from your download folder into the extensions menu within Chrome.
Once you've installed it, go to YouTube. You should be prompted to go to YouTube Center Settings. Go to External Players and set player type to Flash.
With YouTube Center, you can also disable DASH Playback; DASH Loads the video in chunks, and will only load the next chunk when your near the end of the other. Disabling that will allow the video to load entirely, and can make for smoother playback.
That's the only way I've been able to find to fix it.
Ah, based on the PM, it looks like the YouTubeCenter addon is devouring hundreds of megs (a known issue with the current YouTubeCenter version). You should be able to drop a lot of this problem just by changing to the developer version of YTC until this is fixed on the normal release (or you can stick with the developer version if you prefer). You can get the developer version here: https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version You'll have to download the .xpi file for Firefox, then drag it onto the Firefox window, install it, and restart if necessary. Hopefully that will solve the mess, if not we can try again.
Direct links to the latest versions of the extension (for all browsers) can also be found on the developer version page.
Also note that disabling DASH playback will prevent you from watching videos in 1080p and 480p.

>I'm not going to fix YouTube Center for the new YouTube layout.
>I should probably elaborate on why I'm not going to fix YouTube Center for the new design. The reason is that almost all of the UI features (resize, buttons, like/dislike, comment flags, etc) will need to be redesigned/refactored. I made a couple of wrong decisions when I developed the current YouTube Center. The first and foremost pressing issue is that it's all contained inside a single file. This made it a lot harder to maintain YouTube Center as it grew. However, it made it a bit faster to test as you didn't need to concatenate the files. Another issue is the performance of the current YouTube Center. It's probably not noticeable in most cases. However, it's still an issue that needs to be resolved.
>In conclusion due to having to remake some of YouTube Center to make it work with the new YouTube design I decide I would rather continue on my "remake YouTube Center completely" project aka. MaiaYT.
you would cite it just like a regular web page. However, because it is a wiki it can change. So you want to cite the specific revision. On github wikis at the top of the page there should be a link to the number of revisions. Click on that and then click on the hash link on the right of the current revision. then cite that url.
example: instead of citing https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki you should cite https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Home/fa11d445d5745848fbd6a4594fdb1745e48c4b0f
FYI doing it this way mangles the quality even more than youtube's compression.
That said, I prefer youtube center
https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version >YouTube Center is a userscript designed to expand the functionality of YouTube. It includes the ability to download the video you're watching, auto selecting your preferred video quality and much more.
> As of many of you know. I have not been actively developing on YouTube Center and there's a good reason for that. I have acquired a full time job, which leaves not much time for development.
However, if a major bug occurs, because of some change in YouTube. I will try to fix it in a relatively small time frame.
>
> Moreover, I will will not stop developing on YouTube Center indefinitely and there might be some future surprises.

Don't install things from Addoncrop, they bundle malware with their downloads. Keep it to official sources such as AMO.
https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/issues/1412#issuecomment-72042816
http://virus-removal-guide.com/redirect-to-addoncrop-com-removal-guide/
Also, don't use sites like CNET, download.com, Softpedia, SourceForge, etc. as they too bundle malware with their downloads.
One thing to help against the misleading YouTube videos is to use YouTube Center. The Developer Version works best for me, but it allows the ability to see the ratings before you actually click on a video. Has saved me numerous times from clicking on "bad" videos.
If you want to take it to the extreme, there's Video Blocker which will let you block entire channels from showing up in search results. That one helps for channels of streamers you dislike/can't stand, or from channels that consistently put out bad/misleading videos.
I'm using a chrome extension called YouTube Center to make my player size fit my screen and set it to play at the maximum quality instead of having to do it yourself, it also lets you download the video straight from the video page, this is from the features section:
> Download YouTube Center offers the ability to download YouTube videos. A download button is added below the player and the download button is split up into two parts: downloading of preferred format and a menu of the available formats.
>The first part of the download button will select your preferred video format and download it without you needing to find it in the download menu.
The extension has lots of configuration for downloading the video, if you install it you should definitely check out the config page to set some defaults so when you want to download a video quickly, just hit download and it'll do the rest for you.
YouTube Center has a feature that shows resolution and FPS when you mouse over video thumbnails on YouTube. Useful for finding 60fps videos.
(Note that the version on Mozilla Add-ons is quite outdated; use the latest version from the GitHub homepage.)
There's a dev version of Youtube Center that is updated regularly, it's a lot better than the stable version, for me.
Edit: Here's a link
If you are using uBlock origin and still getting ads on YouTube go ahead and try removing the YouTube app in chrome://apps/ and see if that resolves the problem.
I personally use uBlock Origin and still have the YouTube app but do not get ads on YouTube. I believe that may be because I use the YouTube Center Dev script. Check it out here, TamperMonkey is needed unless you manually install it as an extension.
Youtube center still works perfectly fine, if you use Tampermonkey (Chrome) or Greasemonkey (Firefox) and use the developer version of Youtube Center (The one called: Userscript: YouTubeCenter.user.js) You just have to manually check once in a while for updates and apply them. For some reason only the developer version is updated. The public one is long long out of date. I have yet to run into any large bugs or issues with the developer version.
Get the developer version from Github, don't wait for AMO releases because it takes months to update 1 version when in Github 10 or more were already released. https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version
That's Google's Dash playback. It sucks for anyone on a slow connection who wants to let the video buffer completely before watching or plans to skip through it a lot. I use Youtube Center to have actual buffering.
I didn't see any popups. You can turn off annotations in youtube settings.
Or you can get Youtube Center and fix a whole bunch of stuff. (Player, General, uncheck "Enable annotations")
I use the Youtube Center addon for firefox. It lets you set the default resolution, among other things. I've got a slow connection too, and it's great to not have to switch resolutions manually. Good luck.
Uninstall Youtube Center
Close browser
Navigate to C:\Users\yourprofilename\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\jibberish.default
Delete the "YouTubeCenterStorage" folder in your profile.
Now go here and install the Development version of Youtube Center: https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/raw/master/dist/YouTubeCenter.xpi
See if your settings hold.
I'm using the HTML5 player with the Youtube Center plugin, and I always just use fullscreen mode.
With Youtube Center, I've got the video set to always load the highest resolution video automatically, since HTML5 videos load so fast. So I can switch to fullscreen without having to wait for it to re-buffer a bunch of the video. It's a really good plugin.
Thank you! I had an issue with Youtube Center but the developer version fixed it.
Edit: issue was videos wouldn't play. Started happening one day and it made me sad that this beautiful extension was what was causing the issue. Direct Download Link
This "feature" is called Dash (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP) Playback. YouTube Center can disable Dash Playback. (Download it here) The only real caveat is that "that by disabling Dash Playback will result in 480p and 1080p not being available. This is because of a recent YouTube change." You'll only have access to 240p, 360p, and 720p. If a video is uploaded in 480p, only 240p and 360p will be available, etc.
I'm with you on this one... I got spammed by the $2/month subscription and uninstalled all of it - both free and "pro" versions.
Still trying to find an alternative like you're self.
[edit] ~~I'm looking for older versions of the extension on GitHub... perhaps manually installing an older version will negate the subscription BS.~~
https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version
This is your answer. Make sure you have TamperMoney installed.
I just installed and tested it, it works :3
I use YouTubeCenter. It is disabled by default but if you happen to want it back go to General > Remove Advertisement and uncheck the box.
I have instructed YTC users on how they can "patch" this problem with the grid layout:
>With YTC grid layout enabled, open https://www.youtube.com/feed/subscriptions?flow=2
>It should make YTC grid work correctly as it did before YouTube's recent change.
https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/issues/2114
For this to work it is important that you have the YTC grid layout activated and that you open the link that is mentioned above.
For Chrome users (How to Install YouTube Center plugin in Google chrome) as they claim its only for firefox.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02wxwcS5Gzs
Credit to Chriso Man.
Download the developer version (which is the same as current last I checked): https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version
Go to extension (as in this video) on the top right hand corner is a tick box that says developer mode, tick this.
Drag and drop the YouTubeCentre.crx file to the extension window in Chrome and
Voilà!
I come bearing gifts:
Also I would normally suggest Youtube Center but with the recent youtube changes its a little bugged, but keep an eye on it and try it out once the Dev Version updates to accommodate the changes.
The open source YouTube Center addon also has the option to force Flash or HTML5 (Settings -> Player -> Player Type).
On Chrome I only get 480p and under, but on Firefox I get 720p and 360p.
Looking at the Statistics on both, it seems DASH playback is on by default in Chrome, but off in Firefox.
DASH playback is a feature added to YouTube that prevents the video from buffering all the way if you have it paused, to prevent downloading data that potentially may not be used (if the user quits the video early on). Now, you can disable DASH playback in Chrome with YouTube Center, but you won't get options for 1080p.
Anyways, there was probably just a glitch in the video processing, and the DASH-enabled 720p video stream didn't get uploaded.
You can install Youtube Center and in the player options it adds, uncheck DASH playback. It will also add a download link under videos, so you don't have to keep every video open.
https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/raw/master/dist/YouTubeCenter.xpi
It helped, thanks. Can't wait to see what bugs this has but it's better than what it was.
Some buttons that disappeared a couple weeks ago, like crop, aspect, and download are back and working too.
Chrome has it as well, but they will have to either use the developer version of Chrome or use something like Tampermonkey because Chrome automatically removes extensions that aren't listen on the Chrome Store.
>DASH Playback
>DASH Playback is a method on how a video should be buffered. If DASH Playback is enabled it will buffer the video in blocks. That means that every time you seek in the video it will have to rebuffer that block and it will not buffer the next block if you're not at the very end of the current block. If DASH Playback is turned off YouTube will load normally where you can pause the video and it will buffer to the end of the video and you can jump around in the video as much as you like.
>YouTube's default option has DASH enabled, because it's buffering faster for people with a good internet connection. YouTube Center also have DASH Playback enabled by default.
>Read more about DASH on Wikipedia
>Please note that by disabling DASH Playback will result in 480p and 1080p not being available. This is because of a recent YouTube change.
https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Features#DASH_Playback
You might be interested in YouTube Center. In the settings you can set a preferred video resolution, and it works really well. I now always get 1080p if available, otherwise the highest available below that.
The YouTube Center add-on is known to leak memory. It creates at least one ghost window for every YT video you view, which with a bit of browsing can lead to a situation where Firefox is using 1-2 GB of memory and needs to be restarted.
One solution is to use the developer version of the YouTube Center userscript. Apparently the bug was fixed in the script long ago but the developer has not yet updated the add-on (at least not on AMO).
If you look at the videos "parallel-eyed" instead of cross-eyed it should work without a problem. I do this for every Rift video I watch on Youtube. (I use YoutubeCenter to adjust the video size so that my eyes don't hurt.)
Open addons/plugins (depends on your browser) tab, and just drag adequate version file there. It should install immediately. Then just restart your browser, go to youtube and - if it won't show automatically - click the little gear icon right to your account image to configure it.
He just updated the developer version to build 549, all fixed.
The button overlap seems to be partial fixed. The issue is fixed for me, however, it's not fixed for another user in https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/issues/2352.
Edit: Found the issue. Should be fixed in v546.
Notes: /u/YePpHa is at it again!
Developer Wiki page has been slightly updated. Still points to old reddit posts.

>YouTube Center is a userscript designed to expand the functionality of YouTube. It includes the ability to download the video you're watching, auto selecting your preferred video quality and much more.
What exactly do you want?
That the video buffers completely?
If yes: YouTubeCenter (click me) can do this by disabling dash playback - but beware: it has some downsides like missing 1080p.
Do you use developer version? If not, try it.
You can get it from here: https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version
It should work without any issues. At least on Firefox it works perfect. May want to use Tampermonkey + userscript version of the YC if you have any issues installing the .crx extension.
You can try a Chrome extension that disables DASH playback (which is the type of format where 60fps is served). An extension that does this is YouTube Center, but since the stable version is pending an update it is best to use the developer version instead which can be found here: https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version
Magic Actions also used to offer the same option before, but I think they eventually removed it.
You may have better luck with the developer version of YouTube Center, while they work out the bugs on the stable version. I've had much better luck with it over the last few months, at least.
to me it looks like you went on shittylifeprotips, because the way i look at it, the html5 player in youtube can not make your life better in any way. in my experience, html5 video playback on youtube works okay-ish on some videos, not at all on others. and more often than not its no noticeable difference, except for the negative ones.
myself, i fucking hate the html5 youtube player because of its bugginess and overall shitty feeling, and have deliberately disabled it through youtube center, and for the last year or so, i have only used the flash player. now, that's a real lifeprotip, if you ask me.
(by the way, i felt the same about the html5 player when using chrome, too. its not firefox thats doing a bad job at html5 video playback, but youtube that just fucks it up most of the time.)
It actually has a whole bunch of really awesome features (autoplay settings, settings to only play one video at a time so that you don't have to mess with tabs you are not browsing right now just to stop a video running in the background and much more). I couldn't imagine browsing YouTube without this extension.
Very easy instead of using the Add-On version use the greasmonkey/Userscript version ---> https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/raw/master/dist/YouTubeCenter.user.js
This way with greasemonkey you will be easily able to disable or even enable it for any site you want :)
I'd avoid hover zoom if I were you. It kinda tracks everything that you do… Imagus is an amazing replacement for it, and you can have it preload all images when you open a webpage.
If you're having troubles with youtube ads, try out the HTML5 player and get the Youtube Center extension. Aside from making youtube 10x more awesome, it even does a better job of blocking ads. Just remember that people who upload to youtube take a lot of time out of their lives to give you free entertainment, and the ads are the only way they make money.
I have no idea what could possibly be causing your problems with FaceBook. Have you tried rebooting?
In 10.7-10.9, you can click the two little arrows in the top right of the Safari window to put it in fullscreen mode, which matches what you described. In Yosemite, this has been changed to simply clicking the green button in the top right.
Hope this helped you!
Install YouTubeCenter as a browser extension or as a script for greasemonkey (recommended) and it'll give you a dowload scroll down menu on each video on youtube and the option to download in each resolution and format available as well as a fuckton of other goodies and options.
~~I think your problems with disabling DASH playback might be due to changes that youtube itself made. I've been using Youtube Center with Chrome since about the start of the year and disabling DASH was definitely working then.~~
Disregard that, it seems that disabling DASH playback doesn't work for the HTML5 player, so in Youtube Center Settings > Player / External Player make sure that DASH playback is not ticked, and that "Player Type" is set to Flash, and not HTML5 or Default.
Also, from the Youtube Center GitHub site:
>Please note that by disabling Dash Playback will result in 480p and 1080p not being available. This is because of a recent YouTube change.
Hope this solves your issue, Youtube Center is great for getting a better experience with youtube.
The version available on addons.mozilla.org is 2.1.0, which hasn't been updated since January. So that one still has the issue.
Apparently the major issue in that version has been fixed in the dev version. That's the development version, so I can't speak to its stability or any other issues. I think you have to save the file and then drag it into your addons tab.
As for the top bar, if you have YouTube Center (browser extension), the new update has an option to change it to static.
EDIT: Link can be found here.
YouTube has started a new way of streaming videos called dash buffering. Basically, it only lets you buffer a little bit of the video at a time in order for them to save bandwidth. To the end user this often seems like YouTube sucks at streaming videos. Dash buffering saves them bandwidth because more often than not users will start to watch a video and then not watch the whole thing. They would rather not stream the entire video to you if you are most likely not going to watch the whole thing.
There is a neat browser plugin that allows you to disable dash buffering and has increased my YouTube happiness tremendously! Check out YouTube Center
Here's a CNET article about how to do this
[edit: formatting]
Still works for me, but I'm using old YouTube and disabling autoplay in Center.
The YouTube Center extension allows you to change where the logo take you - I have mine set to my subscription box.
(Only works if you still have the "old" (better) layout enabled.)
I don't think you can on mobile.
For desktop use i recommend using youtube center and the flash player. (i can't get the html5 player to preload videos)
(the dev build https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki/Developer-Version)
I use it mainly to disable autoplay and preloading of videos. (my internet is shit atm ... 550KB/s down :( ... so i open a couple of tabs with what i want to watch and let them load while i go and do other things)
I think it's been discontinued, but YouTube Center is able to do this. It might be a good place to start. You can try to see if anyone has picked up and continued the project. https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki
YouTube Center allows you to disable Dash Playback which lets you cache the entire video instead of just a few seconds ahead. You can then download the whole video using the Network tab on the Developer Tools.
Youtube Center gives you a bunch of modes like that, you can change the default view and theatre view to pretty much any size including full page: http://i.imgur.com/sa9LO2F.png
Not sure how the development is going, you will need to get the dev version since the stable one hasn't been updated in a very long time, can be buggy at times.
I personally use one called Youtube Center, but it has way more options than just disabling DASH and sometimes it is a bit unstable (usually after youtube makes some changes).
Here is a link to it if you want to try it.
YouTube center, YouTube Center, YouTube Center! It's a browser extension. It has video downloading capabilities, audio ripping capabilities, ad-banishing abilities, auto-resizing abilities, and more. It's gr8!
It hasn't been updated in a while, but the developer build still works well and is occasionally updated. Here's a link to downloads for the various browser extensions.
You can add this feature - if you're interested - by installing the YouTube Center extension/userscript (depending on your preference). I can't use YouTube without it.
This also provides other features - like a gridded layout for your subscription videos, the ability to tweak the UI and page layout a bit, and - my personal favorite - the ability to scroll up/down on a page to go into full-window player mode (not full screen - you still have access to your tabs - the selling feature for me, as I tend to run videos while working or playing games).
I suggest the developer feed, but that's only because it gets updated more frequently - helping to reactivate or fix features whenever YouTube decides to make a "helpful tweak" to their site.
I use YouTube Center. Install it from the developer version page (I use the userscript version alongside Greasemonkey), then click the gear that appears to the right of your profile picture on YouTube and disable comments by unticking UI->Comments->Enable comments.
Youtube Center does this too, among a great many other things. Beware, disregard the "stable" release, it's perpetually horribly outdated. Only use the dev release.
I personally prefer YouTube Center - it adds a whole ton of functionality and customization to YouTube that's not available to the typical user, including autoplay settings, autoresolution (e.g. force all videos to 720p by default over YT's default "Auto" setting), and downloading.
Do note, however, if you're using Chrome, you'll have to install Tampermonkey first and install the YouTube Center script from OpenUserJS, since Google has disallowed the extension from the Chrome store since it violates some of its YouTube policies.
No mention to Youtube Center in the comments? Weird
I am confused by the audio in this video: when played in Chrome it has the lady computer voice over with sound effects (Sensors online, etc) but when played in Firefox (or downloaded via YouTube Center Developer Build) it has loud instrumental music instead.
You can disable DASH using the Youtube Center AddOn/Script . However
>Please note that by disabling DASH Playback will result in 480p and 1080p not being available. This is because of a recent YouTube change.
You should use the DEV version as it is much more recent (and actually works, in the case of Firefox). For FF you will need to download the DEV xpi and perhaps flick
xpinstall.whitelist.required
and
xpinstall.signatures.required
to false to allow the install.
Not the solution, but YouTube Center is a great alternative. Install dev version from Github. Additionaly it has video and rating preview in thumbnail
Java is only for building the extension though right? I just installed the extension from the github page and it seemed to work ok. https://github.com/YePpHa/YouTubeCenter/wiki#chrome--opera-15-extension
If you're not using Chrome (Google disabled it as it is not an Appstore addon), YouTube Center is a nice addon that fixes this and allows you to change a large number of other things about YouTube and it's video player.
