And this, boys and girls, is the perfect example why writing an (accurate¹) emulator is so bloody hard.
¹ If you wonder about the accurate here: Compare Higan (a cycle-accurate SNES emulator) with ZSNES (probably the most-used PC SNES emulator, has game-specific hacks, so no casual player notices it can't emulate the SNES accurately)
Geez, this is way harder than it should be (indie programmers: free niche alert!).
Maybe Cave Story?
You can also get her a SNES emulator and thus access to a ton of Zelda style Action adventures. Those are mom-level easy to use nowadays.
Chrono Trigger is the greatest JRPG of all time, in my opinion. You can get it for free if you use emulators, ZSNES, and while it's an old game it's a classic and there are elements where your choices matter or alter timelines. It's one of the best games of all time and I play it once every year or so and it still holds up. The soundtrack is superb. The characters are unique and interesting. The world is cool. It's a very fun game.
Just thought I'd throw that out in hopes someone new may fall in love with the game as I have.
Well the SNES is pretty easy. You should use ZSNES. It should be fairly straightforward to install.
The more difficult part is download ROMS. If you want to try out a lot of different games the easiest way to do this is to download them via BitTorrent. You can find torrents with many ROMS in one, but you'd best try one with not too many ROMs in there, just so you can give it a whirl.
It's been a while, but if I recall correctly all you need to do with zSNES is browse to the ZIP file containing the ROM, and execute it and you will be ready to go.
If you want to download ROMs individually i'm not really the person to help you. There should be many redditors here who know where to get ROMs without too much hassle.
N64 and PS2 ROMs are much harder to come by in complete working order. If I were you I would start out with SNES ROMs, just so you can play something without investing too much time setting everything up.
If you are using ZSNES, the only thing you have to after installing is mapping your keys. I think you can find this in Configuration / Controller #1, but don´t pin me on this, it´s been more then 3 years since I last started the emulator. Just map the keys so you can easily remember them and give it a whirl.
I hope this helps, if not, i´ll try to help you further.
> ZSNES
Have you looked at their news page recently?. That 7 at the end of the 4-digit year isn't proceeded by a 1...
Seriously, if you want ZSNES with modern compatibility, just use ZMZ instead - it even has ZSNES's characteristically poor audio synchronization! (though unlike ZSNES, the actual SNES audio hardware emulation is flawless in ZMZ).
I use zsnes for SNES Games and VisualBoy Advance for GameBoy/GBA/GBC games. I've only played on my external monitor and they're clear in full screen mode.
I've also used Emulation Station on the Raspberry Pi. You can also install this on Windows, I've been meaning to give it a try as it works very well on the Pi.
ZSNES has not had updates for nearly 10 years. http://www.zsnes.com/index.php?page=news
I used to use ZSNES, but that was before I discovered SNES9X and then BSNES/Higan.
Once you go BSNES/Higan there is no going back.
I prefer ZSNES for SNES emulation. I realize it isn't as portable as SNES9x, and I realize that unlike BSNES it doesn't boast 100% accurate emulation (although it does boast 100% compatibility), but ZSNES boasts the largest variety of graphic and audio filters for an enhanced gameplay experience.
I have nothing to suggest but SNES RPG's.
Pony Fantasy 6?, Earthbound, Chrono Trigger and Breath of Fire are the ones I'm currently enjoying.
I expect a full report on each of these games on my desk the moment you get back.
Oh and a SNES emulator might help.
^^^^^Oh ^^^^^and ^^^^^don't ^^^^^worry ^^^^^Bandalo, ^^^^^I ^^^^^wont ^^^^^EVER ^^^^^forget ^^^^^you!

I don't have any experience w/ Jnes, but I did something similar with zsnes and I had no problems with it. Maybe you should try using zsnes and see if it works with your controller or if you have the same problem?
Ok first get ZSNES if you haven't already: http://www.zsnes.com/ Also recommend a usb controller. If you have a wired xbox360 controller or a ps3 controller, no need to make a purchase.
Now obtain and play the following ROMS:
Soul Blazer
Illusion of Gaia
Terranigma
Secret of Mana
Secret of Mana 2
Secret of Evermore
I haven't played it but Brandish looks like it might be good...
When you finish all those if you still crave more come back. All of these are classic top down hack and slash action rpg's, similar to Sword of Mana and the Ys series.
There are other action oriented RPG's out there too if you're willing to step outside classic top down hack n slashing, like the tales of series.
It also works as a good controller for NES/GBA games.
Google. Seriously.
For SNES, check out ZSNES, it's pretty much standard. They're all good, though, SNES and most other 16bit era consoles are pretty much perfectly done.
For PS1/N64, it's starting to get a little more difficult. I'm slightly out of the loop, but most games work well. Can't give a recommendation.
If there weren't some major developments in the past year, PS2 era consoles and up are still a little buggy in emulation, often just the game you were looking for won't work yet.
If you're paranoid of spyware/etc (as you should be), avoid "hub" sites plastered with strange ads and "search term spam" (i.e. 10 lines of "SNES emulator 100% working COMPLETE FULL CD1 Axxo" on the top). Also beware of "download program needed to download this download". Obviously. It's the same as with searching for any kind of program on the internet, though.
You can't go wrong with tracking down the original homepage of any emulator's creators. Check for active and friendly forums and communities. For example, a place like this is usually save.
They're all pretty much perfect. ZSNES? I always used Snes9x but I think it isn't updated anymore or something.
Next thing you'll need is a good ROM site. There are plenty. emuparadise.org ? I think that one is pretty decent.
Two more tips: Check out some games that never came out in your region. If you're from the US you might never have heard of Terranigma. Which is frickin' awesome! Also the best SNES game you never heard of, Live a Live, which was never released outside of Japan but is now available thanks to the amazing translation community.
Also remember that modern emulators let you save using "save states", essentially ultimate "quicksaves" that let you save and load a game from anywhere. It can make them easier but it's a joy to use compared to the "try again from last checkpoint" style of gameplay as originally intended.
Have fun!

>There is no ZSNES for Linux.
Yes, there is. I been using Linux for the pass 15 years and been using ZSNES. I believe my first one was the one you are using now. It's buggy so I move on. ZSNES never gave me problems that's why I still been using it.

>Besides, that does nothing for my current saves.
Your ROMS are just in a folder. Just direct ZSNES to them when you install it. Move the ROMS if you need to. That's the end game you want. So you can play all your SNES games. I'm telling you. That you should move on to something that works and not something that is buggy.

There is a Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past rom generator that makes a completely randomized version of it, where items are all in the wrong spots, for the most part (keys are within their dungeons); get it here. Need an emulator? Try zsnes
I would like Skyrim, currently $6.59 for the 7.50 gift, steam id
Thanks, and happy birthday to you, man!
6!!! Download ZSNES it's completely free!!
Edit: Zsnes http://www.zsnes.com/index.php?page=files FFVI http://www.emuparadise.mobi/Super_Nintendo_Entertainment_System_(SNES)_ROMs/Final_Fantasy_III_(USA)/33709
It says ffIII but that's just what they called the us version of vi
Grand theft auto 5 - You get a single player game, and Multiplayer that engulfs a few gaming generas. (First and third person shooter, Race every type of vehicle known to modern man, Missions for Co-op gameplay, and lots more).
Fallout 4 if you like Sci-Fi and Role playing. The V.A.T.S. system lets you move slower than a first or third person shooting game, but allows you to pull of some really cool and cinematic events.
Each game can use an Xbox 360 controller, so you will not have to learn complicated key combinations.
Also get Zsnes and MAME in case you do not like the new games.
This will help you re-live some old games, and even some newer remakes, like Street fighter.
If you have Windows, I'd recommend ZSNES It's what I use to emulate Super Nintendo games. The Rom can be found here SNES or here If you have a controller that can connect to a computer via usb you can play that way. (an old PS2 controller should work. )You would just need to set up the controls once the emulator is installed. (can be a bit tricky.)
Of course, if this is too much trouble/time consuming you can just play Cool Spot for free online here using up/down arrows and keyboard controls. Just close the ad and click "Play Now." Controls are to the left and you can go full screen as well.
It's a brilliantly-written game with a satisfying story and ending. However, if you can't use an emulator to fast-forward through battles, it downright wastes a ton of time. I prefer the classic SNES version, when played on an emulator.
I suggest ZSNES with the good fan translation.
O_O You like RPGs but haven't played CT... WE NEED TO FIX THAT (this goes for everyone who loves J/RPGs)
You'll need an emulator (or this one if you're a Mac)
go ahead and grab ZNES Snes Emulator and find the rom for LTTP then patch the rom with Lunar Rom Patcher and then a rom hack of your choosing. There are a couple to choose from Look Here
>And you're fallaciously equivocating titles that are available both on pc and console with first party Nintendo titles, a consistently recognized quality experience that isn't available elsewhere.
etc
I got started on this sort of stuff with the ZSNESW emulator for SNES consoles on windows. It has a very intuitive cheat engine in its own right, and would be a good introduction to the cheat engine program. All it requires is some basic understanding of logic (Computer logic, not Vulcan logic.) to get started.
Not sure how you feel about old school console games, but your system should run emulators swimmingly.
ZSNES is great for snes games, FCE Ultra is good for NES, and take your pick of Sega Genesis (Megadrive) emulators.
I really like znes for SNES. I use a Madcatz 360 controller mostly to play Mario World and Mario RPG.
Good hunting and I'm sorry to hear about your breakup: http://www.zsnes.com/
To use it, download a ROM file of whatever you want to play, for example: http://coolrom.com/roms/snes/7974/Super_Mario_RPG_-_Legend_of_the_Seven_Stars.php
When it's downloaded move it to whatever folder you want to keep your games in (ROM games come in one file, but usually create a second file for saved games and it can get messy when you have many games). Double click it, and slect zsnes as the default program to open the ROM format with (you can put zsnes anywhere once downloaded, and it'll even run off a flash drive).
From then on, you can just double click the game file if you find the interface too complicated.
edit: spelling :3
The best thing I've ever done for my high self was downloading ZSNES and putting EVO on there. EVO is a lesser known game but basically like a really simple, primitive Spore. Seriously, it's fun as shit. There's a ton of other games you can put on there but do yourself a favor and at least try EVO.
Oh man the ZSNES is so much better. You can customize it, more it has a built in game genie, and it has a speed button.
Edit: You should also play the remake for it on the gameboy advance. It has a ton of new items, and a new dungeon to play in!
