I use widgets all the time with Popup Widget, since it handles the worst aspect of widgets, they constantly consume RAM and battery if left running and the space they take.
I use it along with Nova gestures, but any gesture will do.
Added link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
It still lags a lot on my device. The dev should look to increase the performance of the app first rather than adding new features. I would love to switch to Action from Nova. Due to its shutter feature,I actually used the widgets more and it is so intuitive.
Right now I am using Popup Widget 3 with Nova to emulate the shutters.
Popup Widget 2 - I rarely find apps that are really useful to me. This one is friggin awesome. Paired with Nova and mapped to a gesture, you can keep your homescreen clear and bring up any widget when needed, then just make it disappear when you're done. It's wizardry.
Popup widget 3. Frees up homescreen space for widgets. I swipe up on one homescreen icon (Nova Laun) to launch 6 widgets that will temporarily overlay my homescreen.

"Cool" is a rather broad term. Every app comes with its predesigned widget.
A few options you can try are:
Purchase KWGT (pro) in order to import other people's creations (they often share them as files or they come as apps that you can download from the Play Store).
Try a different launcher, particularly one that has different looks than "regular" ones like Pixel, Nova, etc. As an example, Niagara Launcher let's you create pop-up widgets.
There's an app called Pop-up Widget 3 which is basically a friendlier and standalone version of the one I mentioned Niagara has. It lets you create an icon that when you tap it, it shows a widget you specify, so that you can basically save screen space and keep it clean.
And last but not least would be to try different apps that you use widgets with. For example, if you use Today Weather's widget and you don't like its widgets, try Geometric Weather and see if you find them better looking.
I use Popup Widget to hide widgets until I want them. That means I can live with less-attractive widgets that are really functional (like Slider Widget), because I don't have to look at them all the time.
Figured some would ask what the center widget is, it is a Popup Widget that holds the widget "AppDialer" which lets me search through my apps using a T9 keyboard, and it's quite efficient!
This is actually a good question, OP! I don't think you'll have any luck with Kustom, though, unfortunately. You may just have to throw all your audio widgets on a separate desktop page and ignore the aesthetic :( You could also use PopUp Widget!
this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but popup widget let's you make a single icon that when tapped, pops up an overlay of any widget. Its very customizable, you can make it take up the whole screen.
Very easily possible!
It will require one, maybe two additional apps. For the widgets, I would use This one, pop-up widget and to hide a tray of apps I might use that in conjunction with This for the apps. Shouldn't be too hard to set up, I have a good bit of experience with the prior, so if you have any questions let me know!
Have a look at Popup Widget! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget&hl=en
This app has a tasker plug in that can pop up widgets. You could make a profile for when you're phone is charging that activates this plug in.
To take it one step further, you can use Popup Widget with swipe actions as well.
For instance, swipe up on Calendar app, show Calendar widget (no need to have a whole page just for a widget)
I use this in addition to APW Widgets so that when I swipe up on Phone, a widget of my favorite contacts set to direct-dial pops up.
Swipe up on Textra the same widget pops up but set to direct-sms.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
Use pop up widget with another widget that is your folder. Pop up widget is super helpful for making interactive elements like that, highly recommend
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
I've used it do do pretty much exactly this before. It's a little work cause it's not just a pre-existing folder (and it can be a little convoluted to get it to do exactly what you want sometimes), but you can define exactly how you want it to look since you can make it display a kwgt
I'm using something neat for widgets. Popup Widget. It creates a shortcut that pops up a widget or collection of widgets. I bought it many many years ago, probably my Nexus days. But it's working great for me with Niagara on the Fold.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
Maybe not as nice as having multiple widgets always showing, but I'm starting to like it. I do wish Niagara would have more widget layout options though.
I remember now!
It's a cool app to have regardless. It's called "Popup Widget".
Is mainly designed so you can take say a 4x2 Spotify widget that's hogging up screen space, and turn it into a 1x1 icon that only shows the full widget when you tap on it.
However as it relates to Tasker - you basically create the same thing, except you'll be creating a 1x1 icon to a 1x1 Tasker widget lol. But let's say you create 10 of them. Popup Widget then allows you to select multiple (basically grouping them) and assign 1 single icon to show all 10 at once.
But I'd be willing to bet you could create a Tasker Scene for the same purpose in the same or less time than it takes to make 10 Popup Widget shortcuts and group them. In particular - being able to move them around in the layout would be faster in a Scene.
For my solution, I think so.
First you have to download PopUp Widget and get to know that app a bit. It's nice.
You make a PopUp widget within the app of whichever note you want - fiddle with the size of the widget (I have it centered, taking up most of the screen), how it slides in, animation speed, etc... until it's to your liking.
Within Tasker I set it up so when display is unlocked, it runs the PopUp widget I made. Pretty simple thing. I haven't done much with Tasker honestly.
Another nice thing about PopUp widget is you can set up a shortcut to open any widget as a PopUp and tap outside the widget to close it.
I used to use the Nova feature of swiping up on one of my docked shortcuts to open up some relevant widget. Maybe a monthly calendar view you can open with a swipe (or even a home screen gesture) and then close it out to keep your default homescreen clean.
For me, the solution is Pop Up Widget. With this, I can make a single button that will open up multiple widgets. This way I can have multiple IFTTT switches, a Nest Widget, and a widget for the smart plugs.
I don't think so but there pop up widget which let's you create an icon for a widget. You can use nova and assign the pop-up widget to an icons swipe action
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
This is how I deal with widgets when it comes to bNiagara: install popup widgets and gesture control from the app store. Configure your widgets, and set a trigger in gesture control to launch popup widgets. Works really well for me. The advantage of this setup is that I can access my widgets from anywhere, not just the home screen.
Popup widgets: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
Gesture control: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.conena.navigation.gesture.control
As mentioned already, no can't be done.
Have a look at Popup Widget though, may give you some of what you're after? I use it along with Kustom and it works well.
Mentioning pop widget if you have widgets you want to hide and display. I'm using it with Nova and automagic to have my home screen empty. I've gestures and transparent buttons that show widgets and do other actions.
Thanks! Yeah the tree was a happy accident, I set it centered but it shifted when applied (bug in nova launcher beta) so I kept it that way.
The music icon is a link to Popup Widget which lets you put widgets on your page but only show them when you want them. I have my podcasts and Google Play Music widgets show when I press that for easy play/pause access. When pressed, it looks like this
Not quite what you're looking for, but this allows "pop-up" widgets, i.e. a 1x1 widget that pops up a full size widget, and it interacts with Tasker?
So hypothetically you can hide two widgets on the desktop with transparent icons as place holders, then programmatically pop them over?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget&hl=en
I've never used it myself, but maybe Popup Widget 2 could do it. But if you are good enough you could probably use kustom and make it yourself.
You are exactly like me, then. I combine Appbar with Popup Widget. One icon expands into an app group.
I actually take it another step and trigger it with a swipe app to pop it up with any app in focus.
Amazing! Thanks so much /u/ock88
I got a bit fancy here. Nova Launcher lets you set swipe gestures on app icons for additional apps, folders, and shortcuts, and Popup Widget 3 lets you create a shortcut that opens a widget.
So I have my Pokemon Go app icon set with a swipe-up gesture that opens your widget :)
That is for loading a preset, but you can't load a KWGT preset into KLWP, nor can you load a KLWP preset into KWGT
It is so you can load a KLWP preset or a KWGT preset from the current preset being used without having to open the editor
But you can only use KLWP for KLWP and KWGT for KWGT. If you are hoping it will make a KWGT appear by using it from KLWP, you will have to use Popup Widget 3 for that
This app lets you put widgets in foldèrs.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
Obviously it isn't doing what Android can't but it's good enough for some use cases.
This is an example from u/Ratchet_Guy
It makes icons that behave like a drawer or a folder for widgets (and tasks)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget&hl=en_GB&gl=US
My steps widget shows the steps count but if I tap it I get inundated by S Health. So now I tap the wrapper widget to read the steps on the widget that pops out.
This app is also great for avoiding pocket dialing or coping with sausage fingers.
Depending on what you want to do, you might want to use Popup Widget. I have some small 1x1 Kustom widgets with a touch action that launches a larger Kustom widget via Popup. It works great for a simple summary in a small widget, but with a lot of detail a tap away (and not actually launching a full app).
You might consider popup widget. I'm like you are, I don't want to dedicate a page or more to widgets. I can assign a gesture in Nova to launch some or all of my widgets with popup widget.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
Popup Widget is exactly what it says, widgets which popup given a command. Used with KWGT, you make widget folders in KWGT with your favourite apps. Open Popup widget and add those widgets to it. Then in KLWP you add a touch action to each of the icons you want to have open folders and make them open KWGT folders via popup widget
That way, you don't have to change all the icons in presets you download and just have to change a few to open the popup widget folders
Popup Widget let's you customize your apps' widgets and then add them as icons that makes the actual widget pop up on the screen, then you tap or swipe to dismiss.
It kind of defeats the purpose of some widgets where you just want to glance at them, but I don't like to clutter my screens with awful looking widgets, considering most of them won't match your phone's theme, and also most of them require big space in order for the right info to be visible.
I use them on things that don't really require glancing at them, like the calendar or my notes (the less important ones).
It's up to personal preference though.
Also, the app is paid.
The closest thing that I could recommend is https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
You can set up a page of widgets and open them from a shortcut. I had it set up to open with a gesture through Lawnchair at one point as well.
I use Popup widgetPopup Widget 3 with Assistive Drawer. Thus widgets are available from ANY screen simply by sliding in the drawer from the side and popping up widgets. Let me know if this helped.
Maybe popup widget?
Just for the record, there are apps that do this, but not integrated with Keep as far as I know.
That being said, I think my strategy would be to either open Keep in multiwindow when a call is made or open a Popup Widget during a call, the widget being the Keep list widget, which you can fortunately filter by a label such as "call notes"
Download Popup Widget plug-in. It works with Tasker. Set a Profile>Event>Variable Set>variable: %MTRACK
Task>Plug-in>Popup Widget>"Create a Google play widget"
I changed the Animation option to fade, position to center of screen, dim behind about 50%, and even set a timer for it to fade away...
I haven't actually tried it myself but another option may be Popup Widget. I don't know if you can access the widgets with gestures though.
Not exactly what you asked for but failing you finding the optimal solution, give Popup Widget a go. You could create an icon for each habit's widget so only one is open at any one time.
You have to also have the Pop Up Widget app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
It's kind of hard to explain step by step once you get the app, but there should be some YouTube tutorials that can explain it pretty well.
I used to be an Android fanatic, but now have iPhone.
I used to use Nova Launcher, and I'd use the gesture control (i.e swipe up on icon) to launch an app called "Popup Widget" that would allow you to call Android shortcuts (i.e. Songs > Play Favorites). Not sure if Sonos app exposes a lot of shortcuts, but it could possibly mimic 3d Touch in iOS (or be better).

Nova Launcher Prime 4x4 grid, coupled with Popup Widget.
Dashclock with many extensions (FB, Twitter, etc.)
Mostly Cornie icons but the odd icon from Iride.
Month Calendar Widget.
Fleksy Keyboard (only including this because the all white keyboard adds to the minimalism in my opinion).

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I guess you meant the app Popup Widget. Seems like that will do the job, will try that.
As for the brightness indicator. Tasker has a built in variable %BRIGHT (source), but I can't get it to display even as text in KWLP. I've tried
$br(tasker, BRIGHT)$ and $br(tasker, %BRIGHT)$ (gives error: invalid argument count for br).
I had some problems with my phone so I don't have it with me, but here are some tips to improve usability with Nova:
Yes... I create a widget with Zooper integrated with tasker, and then set pop-up widget, also integrated with tasker to pop-up my widget when I do certain things that trigger it. Pop-up widget: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
Not sure if I completely understand the question, but this app might help you get what your are looking for. You can set the widget you are wanting to use there, and tell kustom to launch a shortcut that'll cause the widget to pop up. Not quite a toggle situation, but close

I am an avid Note 8 fan I just discovered something else that makes it even better! Now, I know the Edge panels are installed by default but I've given up using them so often since they usually require flipping through multiple panels to get what I need. By that point it's just as easy to open an app. Beyond that I didn't like how little design control I had over the Edge panels. You can customize which panels you have but you can't really customize the look of individual panels.
Thus, I've come across a fun alternative to the edge panels that allows me to have total control over my heads-up information with a press of my Bixby button. As you can see in the image above, I can have this KWGT widget appear as widget on any app I'm in using a few apps, listed below:
First, you need Pop-up Widget which does cost a little bit but is totally worth it. This allows the widget to pop up anywhere on the home page by way of a shortcut.
Next, you will need Bx Actions which allows you to reprogram the Bixby button as well as the volume buttons. There is an option in the app to open a shortcut. Choose Pop-up Widget to display your custom widget.
Next I use KWGT to create my own widget but you could easily do this with ant existing widget on your phone.
My own widget uses O3 Icons, an add-on to KWGT called Pixxy for some of the widget features like the map and the Google Search bar, and Tasker for more capabilities like toggling auto/max brightness and toggling screen off either on auto or manual.
I'm not suggesting this is the best option for every Note 8 user. I think the Edge panels are still very useful. And a lot of this information can be accessed from the notification window. I just like it and I hadn't heard anything about this set-up. If you want more info on how to set it up please shoot me a PM. I love to help others.
TL;DR Use Pop-up Widget, KWGT, and Bx Actions to create custom pop-up menus in any app.
I like Popup Widget - try it with Keep so that it's hidden until you need it.
I use pop up widget 3 to put my widgets into everywhere launcher. One swipe, one press, no scrolling through widgets. https://youtu.be/-TW3-TguG9I

Popup Widget might be worth checking out - highly customizable, including option for rounded corners
You could use Popup Widgets.
The play icon is stretched that's about it. Looks pretty awesome dude!
Did you use pop out widget
I use Popup Widget 2 to allow those two widgets I use regularly throughout any given day. Also why you see a few Google apps at the bottom there.
I like a clean homescreen, free of apps and widgets for the most part. Minus the ones I absolutely need on my homescreen.
Also, I'm a huge fan of any and all quotes, which is why you see one in the screenshots there. That one is via the Brilliant Quotes & Quotations app, or more specifically it's widget.
Beyond that I have quick access to my most used apps via gestures courtesy of Nova Launcher, namely: Ghostery Browser, Google Wallet, Weather Timeline, sync for reddit pro, Now Browser Extended, and Google Play Books.
I have stuff in the app drawer mostly categorized into folders, with the exception of things I use fairly regularly being left outside folders.
Stuff all over the homescreen drives me bonkers. [shrugs] I do listen to tons of podcasts and tunes via my phone over the audio system in my car. To that end I use Sloth Launcher with the context being as soon as it connects to the Bluetooth in my car all my audio apps are quickly accessible via a notification in the notification shade.
I get some idea, it's no exactly what you're asking for, but I think it's cool too.
There's an app called Popup Widget 2, which allows you to temporarily show any widgets by pressing some icon. You can set the size of the widget as you wish, as well as its position on screen.
I use it combined with another app, Power Toggles, which allows me to have access to this widget from any moment, just by opening the notification bar and clicking the button.
I think it's possible to have the widget showing while your favourite music app is running with help of Tasker.
Thank you kind sir :) And that would be via using the "Popup Widget" app for anyone interested ;)

Pop-Up Widget can open multiple widgets at once. If you want to trigger it similarly to Microsoft Launcher you will need something like Edge Gestures (which is great) or Fluid Navigation Gestures (hasn't been updated since 2019, but it is what I used before Edge Gestures) to trigger it from the side of the screen. I have recently installed Panels which can also do this. It is a sidebar app.

u/Ratchet_Guy told me about it.

Sorry terse reply. This is excellent workaround.
Are you looking for something like this?
I use popup widget 3 quite extensively. I place popup widget3 shortcuts on a drawer (Assistive Drawer by Coolace). I can slide the drawer from the screen's left or right edges. This way, I can get widgets to pop up over the current screen I'm on. Widgets I use: I use floating timer's widgets to start preset count down timers or a floating stopwatch timer. I use the Business Calendar 2 , month view Calendar widget. It's useful when you can bring up your calendar whenever you need it. I use the checklist widgets on ChoresChecklists for daily recurring tasks. Again, I've put them on the drawer and can access them from any screen I'm on. I sometimes use widgets with floating apps. This way a floating widget can be minimised to a bubble, as long as I want to keep it on screen. I use Trackthisforme widgets to quickly record an entry for something I'm tracking, like the number of glasses of water I drink through the day. I've used widgets on HabitBull, HabitHub and Habitica tracking apps. I use blokada to block ads. I pair the blokada widget with a popup widget3 shortcut and place it on the drawer. This way, I can pull up the widget over any app, if I need to toggle ad blocking. I use the YourHour app to track screentime. It has a useful floating clock which reminds me if I overspend time on an app.
I could go on :-). I believe there's a lot of powerful functionality widgets offer. It's simply awesome when you can popup widgets from a drawer. This way you keepbyour home screen clean and can access widgets from any screen.
Maybe slightly unrelated, but sesame shortcuts with Nova launcher, can likewise help running specific actions within apps. Again I use shortcuts on the drawer, so they're accessible everywhere. My favourite is ticktick's Add Task shortcut. Waiting for others to share so I could learn and use something new.
Maybe give this app a try. You can set swipes on icons to open any widget you want.
Do you mean this?? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
Thanks.
It's a custom icon pack I created using icomoon.io. (Note, the hexagonal outlines on the main screen are in KLWP, not in the icon pack).
As for the KWGT action, I don't like having the widgets visible at all times so I use Popup Widget ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget&hl=en_US). KLWP can trigger a Popup Widget shortcut which makes the KWGT widget temporarily visible. I've really enjoyed the in-depth customization but clean UI accomplished by combining Tasker, KLWP, KWGT, and Popup Widget.
> swipe up on an app icon and see the widget there
try Popup Widget 3, it is an alternative for "swipe for widget".
you get an F for effort lil bot buddy.
Thanks, I will definitely try that out. Is that the pop up widget you are talking about?
This isn't quite what you asked for, but Popup Widget 2 can achieve a similar result by hiding them when not in use:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget
All of the answers given so far are just as good as the next - I also would recommend using Popup Widget.
Pop Up Widget 2 and Snap Widget Drawer are two that should work.
Popup Widget: This app is beyond useful. It basically let's you create widgets inside folders. I set up Nova so that when I swipe up on my to-do app (My Effectiveness) it brings up the to-do widgets.
Snap: Adds a second notification drawer if swiping on the left corner of the status bar, but just for widgets. Very useful to have my agenda widget on, taking a glance at my schedule whenever.
I don't know if it will ever be implemented natively in Nova, but you can use Popup Widget to get this effect.
Not 100% on if it will work the way you want or not, but I think pop-up widget would work.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ss.popupWidget Works perfect with Zooper
I don't think that's a Nova feature. Seems like it might be this app.
