I use SpaceDesk mainly. Although I use it as a wireless monitor but it can also be used by USB tethering. Hope this helps.
You will still need to open the app on your phone and connect.
But will this enable me to use the smartphone as a second monitor? Or will it just enable me to mirror my phone's screen to the PC?

I want to use the phone as a secondary monitor. This app kind of works for example, but it is not foss, so I would like to avoid it if possible
SpaceDesk, i've been using it for a while with an Android TV as a second screen, the latency over WiFi is sometimes weird, but nothing too bad.
You'll need to install the Server/Driver in Windows or your OS, but with that you're ready.

Hope it works for you!
This, right?

That's not using the cable for video, it's streaming the video over a network connection. A cable isn't needed and wouldn't improve your experience.
I don't think 250£ would be enough for Minecraft server and "other things you want"
>disassemble my optiplex 3011 for parts if I need to
Are you building in a optiplex or salvaging parts from a optiplex
Which Linux are you using
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ph.spacedesk.beta
I use this to remote connect to my pc
Which Minecraft java or bedrock and what is your wifi speed and ping that might be a big factor in performance when connecting with friends
I'd suggest running that server via Ethernet

This is what I believe you're looking you can connect it over wifi
I would connect the controller to the PC directly
You can still use the phone touchscreen
The one thing I thing I don't really like about the app is that is that user friendly
Are you saying that now your drivers are up-to-date?
spacedesk works behind your Private Home Network. So does Superdisplay. Spacedesk is WiFi only and is free. Superdisplay is $10.
An alternative to SuperDisplay ($10), spacedesk will do it for free, and it works well for me. It works behind your Firewall, over WiFi only. To keep mine private, I share my PC's Internet with a HotSpot and connect my Tab S7 to that WiFi.
That lines up pretty much with the rest I read about lenovo's tablet software. It's a shame, Samsung could really use a competitor aside from Apple, with the prices they're charging.
Btw, I've had pretty good experiences with spacedesk, I use it extend the screen of my laptop to my eink tablet. I don't think you can use a usb cable though, so you're stuck with WiFi. At least there are no package dependency problems I know of though! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ph.spacedesk.beta
Free Application : SpaceDesk Server for windows | SpaceDesk for android
SuperDisplay appears to be free with in-app purchases.
Also try:
To give you a roadmap of what a hardware hack would be: You would need to pull the tablet apart, more or less throwaway its current mainboard, identify the model of the screen and ribbon port connector, find a display driver board online that you can connect with a known format (a la HDMI) and plug that into the board. It would not fit back into its original case.
Unfortunately tablets are very tightly engineered, closed source and compiled so its not really feasible to tap into the preexisting display driver as its likely buried in the mainboard and uses serial communication to send data to the display.
I would recommend something like SpaceDesk and keep the tablet together and functioning. Maybe try to get linux running on it
I use spacedesk to connect it to my pc and edited rainmeter scripts for the stat bars. Spacedesk works on every phone and I can give you my rainwater plugins if you want to use it as well.

Keyboard shortcuts would be so handy for this feature! For those of us on older tabs, there is the excellent, free spacedesk app that I use daily :)
Well there's several apps on Google Play that do this, afaik everyone needs an app on the computer to act as server.
Since you didn't specify, I'll assume a Windows machine: I used spacedesk on my S10 and S5e, worked great, wireless.
i'm glad that they came to android, but if u don't want to pay try something like space desk, it uses the android devices gpu, so the lag is minimal

Yes. Space desk works well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ph.spacedesk.beta
Spacedesk is what you're looking for. And probably some more coffee. :P
You can use Spacedesk which supports both wired and wireless methods. You can use Wi-Fi or USB or even a LAN cable to connect both devices. Download the Spacedesk app on Chromebook and also on your Windows computer.
Then connect using a wire or wirelessly. Now when you open the app on Chromebook, you should find all the devices that are connected and have the app installed. Simply select a device to connect.
It will start showing the system display on the Chromebook screen. Now you can use native options in the Windows settings to adjust the display settings.

Yes. Flow looks instant, but their is a download that happens in the background. It is super-easy! Just drag and drop files into the Flow window, on either end, and the files appear. It also can instant message between devices. The file transfers will be listed here as part of the text exchange. Flow is excellent for not needing your tablet on-hand for notifications, or for moving things around onto more than 2 devices, too. It also controls the tablet from the PC. with limits.
There are other ways to transfer files very quickly, too. You can sync with Cloud Services, for example. You can install a network drive (share a drive or part of a drive on your network, like the Public folder but with better security.)
Samsung Notes sync with my PC, as well. So you really have a LOT of options!
To get this one on non-Samsung PC was bonkers. Go to the Store's Library! The little download icon is there, if nowhere else, I learned after trying every other method mentioned on the Internet.
Oh! Another great way to transfer files is to use Spacedesk! This one makes your tablet a touch screen monitor for Windows. I can use my tablet with S-Pen as a Windows 11 touch monitor. The S-Pen is called Surface Pen on my PC when this happens. So cool! Here it is at the Play Store. I was so close to buying Superdisplay for $10. But I have not needed more than Spacedesk,... and DeX and Wired and Wireless Network Drives. LOL. Let's just say, I like to have my bases covered.
I built my PC. ASRock is the brand of my motherboard. My PC has Bluetooth 5.2 via the Intel AX210 chip. You basically only need Miracast on the PC, though, I think. Because Spacedesk is WiFi-only, YMMV. I am very impressed however! Especially for free! Spacedesk should work for any Android, but it might require capable hardware. I have not tried on lesser machines. Really, this one is going to blow your mind!
spacedesk has worked well for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ph.spacedesk.beta&hl=en_CA&gl=US
If they're on the same network you can use Spacedesk

Space Desk works great for me. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ph.spacedesk.beta
Hi, You can use any tablet as a wireless PC monitor thanks to free! Android or Apple app called SpaceDesk
You just need to install tiny program on your PC that works as a server, connect and configure the resolution.

The other option is using apps like Touch Portal or Matric to simulate a button box.

Maybe Spacedesk, I know it works at 60fps between two computers not sure about Android devices.
Looks interesting, is it this app
This is already possible, if you're in the same WIFI.
Although latency varies a lot.
Look at this if you want to try it out:

I haven't tried it yet but you can use spacedesk over Wifi to use it as another monitor.
OP is using Spacedesk over USB tethering. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ph.spacedesk.beta
