"After a lot of research, one thing that this team had decided was that this year [Commander 2017], we would be moving down to four decks. Why four instead of five? Because we believe the best Commander play experience for a new Commander player is a four-player game, and releasing four decks mimicked how we thought it would be best for someone to start. We also wanted to make each deck more exciting by giving them more new cards."
"One other thing Product Architecture had figured out is that if we moved away from five decks, we would need a new way to make our decks. In the past, we had done it by color. Five is kind of the golden standard in Magic: everything works well in fives because of monocolors, two-color pairs, three-color combinations, and even four-color combinations. But this change came at a fortuitous time because we had definitely started to exhaust most of the color pairings. / So, the other excellent conclusion they had reached is that, instead of being built around color, the decks would be built around themes. / That's right: starting with Commander 2017 and moving forward, the Commander sets will be built around themes rather than color."
EDIT: Hmm, this doesn't say it explicitly. There must be another one. EDIT2: No, this is the right one. It's the combination of the two paragraphs, second one now added, which makes it sound like they will be moving away from sets of five ... largely because of market research, and also because they're no longer making color-cycled sets of decks.
I do NOT want to spend money on cards I've already bought when I could just swap them between decks, so I proxy.
I use mtgpress.net, print onto address label paper (like such, at 103% with cut lines), cut them out, and glue them onto bulk commons. Legible and not noticeably thicker.
Some people make a "staples binder" where they keep the originals to easily show people if the need arises.
For the low low price of 17.99 you can have yourself a Dimir edh deck that can serve as a good base for Yuirko.
May I introduce you to SponsorBlock and addon/extansion for popular browser that skip self promotion/ads/credits/etc on video.
You can setup what you what to skip, on which channel, if you want it to skip it automatically or ask you. I have saved around 16 hours in a couple month and saved others around 90hours with the segment I submitted.
It's probably worth mentioning that 1v1 commander on MTGO has yet another separate banlist.
If I remember correctly, this is a supplemental set in the same vein as the Conspiracy sets. From Gavin Verhey
> There are 254 unique cards in total, and 85 of those cards are brand new, all of which will immediately be legal in Commander, Legacy, and Vintage!
EDIT I misread your comment and thought you were talking about Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh in a Jodah Brawl deck. My bad!
Then you're not looking hard enough. It's currently for sale where I live and online for LESS than the price of a box of Strixhaven. The print run was always promised to not be limited, it was only short when it released. Once again, that was used by WotC and retailers to justify raising the price. Now that distribution has caught up there's boxes everywhere.
Unless you live somewhere pretty remote like Australia where everything is expensive, in which case I'm sorry about that.
Well they do offer alternatives, just not to LGS's. Amazon has a minimal packaging version, I just assume that they don't give it to LGS's because it's less flashy on the shelf.
Temur Energy. Maro said they had a commander for the archetype in the design file, but it didn't make it to print. Iirc, it was supposed to be "Advika Taar", whose image and story can be found down the page here: https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/aether-revolt
Additionally OP, I dunno how new you are but drawing cards is basically the best thing you can do in the game.
To TLDR the original comment, Mystic Remora is crazy efficient draw that scales really well with multiplayer, even if you never pay the upkeep. A lot of folks think [[Rhystic Study]] is solid but depending on meta this is basically a much, much more efficient draw engine.
Seems to me like the distinction you're making is the difference between"card advantage" and "virtual card advantage". Cards that replace themselves are"card neutral", but the filtering, like [[opt]] [[brainstorm]] or [[ponder]] provide virtual card advantage on top of that. Less so with brainstorm unless you can shuffle away cards you don't want. Card advantage comes when you net at least 2 cards. So [[divination]] or [[glimmer of genius]] both count. And some cards seem like they provide card advantage when they really provide card disadvantage. [[faithless looting]] technically nets you -1 cards, since you draw two, discard two, but you've lost the original card. Flashing it back is card neutral, but you're already at a loss. (note of course that if you want cards in your graveyard that's a separate topic, but don't consider faithless looting advantage in every deck).
Yeah that's basically how I distinguish cards. Here's a great article by Reid Duke: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/lo/basics-card-advantage-2014-08-25
I have 30 decks and have 28 of them in these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002TT3LG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ti4VDbEFPE63B
They hold a (depending on brand) double sleeved EDH deck. They're compact. You can lay the commander on top for easy identification. Best of all, they're $2.00 so buying 30 of them won't break the bank.
Boulders are my second choice for many of the same reasons above, but they're more expensive and less transparent.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/content/eternal-bargain-commander-2013-card-set-archive
Here is a decklist of what is inside. The only real expensive ish card is toxic deluge and a bunch of other chaff.
Nah, https://www.amazon.com/Learning-Resources-Hands-Soft-Bucket/dp/B000URJG6M
Those will keep the cards safe and playgroup from being salty.
Try some new game Styles, like planechase or the one where you get different role like king, warrior, assasin (can't remember the name).
Edit: from the comments below i'd like to add Archenemy as a really good Playstyle, too. Also if you don't want to buy the Planechase set, you can download a free (for Android at least) app where all Planes/Phenomenons a D6 and coin flip mechanic are included.
Found an article from Brian Tinsman talking about battlecruiser Magic as it related to designing Rise of Eldrazi:
>"When Ken played the same game, he and his friends would turtle up, ignore each other, and start working on battlecruisers--the biggest, most awesome units in the game. Then they would all send their battlecruisers to the center and watch the epic spectacle...What if we did a set that was about outrageous, epic clashes between huge creatures? One where the optimal play is to turtle up, build your mana to unprecedented levels, and have a clash of the titans? The idea became known as 'battlecruiser Magic.'"
So, sorta both? Both meaning creatures who are threatening independently, but can also be powered up to ridiculous levels.
Duel commander isn't the official WotC run format. You're thinking of the ban list for MTGO, which can be found here
Is the vehicle moving while you're playing?
Maybe something like this? It has slots to hold the cards in place but you can still pick them up easily. Tapping could get weird, maybe just turn them upside down.
This used to be a thing, but they changed it. Now it remember how many land drops you had that turn and flickering it doesn't do anything. The rules update was m14
The Unstable FAQ+ specifically qualifies this interaction:
> If The Grand Caluctron in on the battlefield and my X is in my opponent's hand, can I cast cards in their program? > > No. The Grand Calcutron's ability overrides X in this case. You're limited to the first card in your program. > > If The Grand Calcutron is on the battlefield, can the opponent cast X if it's the first card in their program? > > No. The opponent can never cast X. In fact, if X is the first card of their program, they can't cast any card in their program, at least until new cards are put ahead of it. Note that you can't cast X either, as it's not the first card in your program.
I think the idea of TCG referral linking to cards etc is a very good idea. Just have to parse the information into a format to input into their mass card importer and I'm sure people will appreciate it.
Great service thus far from Edhrec, BeepBoop forever!
One other idea is https://www.patreon.com for maintenance and development costs - including adding new features. Which is probably preferable to a kickstarter.
In case you decide to jump in, the set of 4 C19 decks is only $88 on amazon. I think snagging these decks for $22 each is a pretty good deal.

Xenagos is on the art and Deicide's definition: >1. the act of killing a divine being or a symbolic substitute of such a being >2. the killer or destroyer of a god
However, if MtG universe is like any other soap opera one, dead may not mean dead, dead I suppose he could still be alive. As for proof, yeah, I have nothing from Wizards.
They can be partner Commanders only with each other. The tutoring bit is primarily for the sake of Two Headed Giant.
>Each of them has the new ability partner with [the other]. That ability means two things. First, they'll come to each other's aid. Specifically, when one of them enters the battlefield, target player may search their library for the other, reveal it, put it into their hand, and shuffle their library. (Note that the reminder text summarizes this for brevity, but it is a standard search and shuffle.)
>Second, each pair of partners can co-serve as a deck's commander. This is largely the same ability as the original partner, which debuted in Commander (2016 Edition). In fact, this part of the ability doesn't do anything if you're not playing Commander. The only difference is the named partners can be co-commanders only with each other and not with any other creature with partner. You can't partner Toothy with Vial Smasher the Fierce, for example. Note that not all the partners in Battlebond are legendary. The ones that aren't can't be commanders at all.
The ‘Partner with’ keyword means when one enters the field, a target player can search for the partner and put into their hand. I can’t link it right now but it should be in the announcement last Friday?
edit - https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/find-your-partner-battlebond-2018-05-18
> What happened in June 2016 that caused a temporary spike in 4C commanders?
In May 2016 WotC announced that the commander product would be 4C. So my guess is people started brewing with the Nephilim in preparation during late May/early June.
> I find that playing them unsleeved helps the cards develop that cool "battle-damaged"
I just died on the inside.
On the original topic... if you upgrade your deck boxes from paper to something a bit sturdier like any of these (depending what you want to spend)
Try local game stores if possible. Amazon prices flux and legion might have shipping costs.
I recommend a cheap messenger bag. I'm planning to upgrade to one currently and found some for around $20-$25. It will also allow you to carry any card binders, dice, tablets, note pads etc. Anything you might want for a mtg day.
Hi.
He is right from what I can understand from your post unless I read it wrong. You use [[Araboh]]s activated ability when you declare attackers (in the declare attackers step but before the declare blockers step . You know though that you as the attacking player decide blocking order when one of your guys is blocked by more than one guy.
You declare attackers and use the ability and he declares blockers. You cant go back and use it after he declared a blocker because you didn’t like what he blocked with or whatever. I agree with you that there is a bit of a Symantec issue in the wording. I would recommend reviewing the rules for the way the stack works during combat phases.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/lo/attacking-and-blocking-2014-11-10
This might help. Best of luck.
Also, try posting over at one of the judges discords for official clarification.
"Win more" describes cards and strategies that are only good if you are already in a winning position. They are appealing to some players, usually those with little experience, because they can still be very cool or powerful. However, they are also a trap in deckbuilding because they usually don't help you actually getting to the advantageous state of the game that they need to actually be good.
Here's a good article by pro player Reid Duke that explains the whole thing pretty well. In fact I would highly recommend the entirety of his "Level One" series for new players getting into the game and want to improve (unfortunatly the article search on that page is a bit fuzzy, so you may need to adjust the "from" date to a date before 2014 and hit the search button again to find all the articles).
Hey, thanks!
Have you ever read about There's the Door / Show Yourself Out? It's probably my favourite deck concept in all of MtG, in any format.
From the C18 product page it says "Call on powerful planeswalkers and deploy their signature strategies to make sure you're the last player standing." leading everyone to believe that it will be planeswalkers but I haven't seen it confirmed officially at all yet.
> I then tried to remedy this by putting a mana source and then non mana source alternating and then doing the seven
If you read this, that is technically cheating:
> the cards are in a known pattern. Although the exact order of the cards is not known, there is a pattern of two spell cards and one land card repeating throughout the deck. Left in this state, this is a stacked deck and qualifies as Cheating. After going through all the work of mana weaving, the deck still needs to be randomized.
I'm curious. You're singling out "arm wrestling" here as if you think that's instrumental to Un-cards. Te card in question is also really, really crappy: it nets you a [[Nessian Courser]] for the added cost of having to win a different game. For Slaying Mantis, sure, dexterity cards are inherently tricky. But not shitty cards that are only in there so people can have fun with one another. If you're there to try to win with your cards, it's not a good option. And if you're there to win and have fun, it's not a good option. And if you're there to just be a dick to others, be prepared to be asked to change the deck or leave.
But dice cards aren't inherently problematic, just about two of them. Grand Calcutron forces you to play your hand exposed, and cards in a specific roder (and, according to MaRo, you can reorder your hand before revealing it for anyone's Calcutron so that it's set to be cast in order). Grusilda is basically a two color "make your own Mimeoplasm" without much in the way of problems aside form the fact that all abilities on both creatures are available instea dof just one. The only reason Mimeoplasm doesn't have that feature is likely due to a change in its design, when it was touted as a creature card that meant to copy TWO creatures (by Nagle, here), but settles for just +1/+1 counters from one of them.
>What banned and restricted lists count for Spike, Tournament Grinder?
>Any list generated by Wizards of the Coast or the Commander Rules Committee.

I'll give you your ruling, but this is also a convoluted mess.
Evergreen keywords are ones that are used in pretty much every set. Deciduous keywords are ones that that are used frequently, but not quite in every set. Changeling is neither of these; it only appeared in two sets.
Per MaRo's Evergreen Eggs & Ham Changeling has never been considered an evergreen keyword.
The insert for the deck actually gives a tiny bit of extra information about her that is also available here: https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/commander-2017-commanders , though it doesn't answer the question of her scars' origins:
"Kess's home is one of the few pockets of life remaining on the devastated shard-world of Grixis. She harvests vis, a magical substance that holds small bits of precious life energy, in hopes that she can one day use it to restore what was lost."
I live in Canada, and bought mine from Amazon

The ones I originally bought went up in price a bit, but the shipping should be reasonably fast this way.

Hope this helps!
FYI I don't really agree with the Professor on many of his product reviews. But then again I'm an engineer, and he's a lit major :).
I'd highly recommend this to carry your EDH decks. I personally double sleeve with Dragonshield Matte Art sleeve outers & Dragonshield seal-able inners for my expensive decks and they fit perfectly enough to keep air out + smooth all your ~~pringles~~ foils.
Prerelease boxes are $60
Wizards is selling a draft box of Modern Horizons 2 for $275
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B092N73PYP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_AD1ZGKMTGGQ3QQ95KJ0H
Double Masters was $300
I found these on amazon, it says in the Q&A that with some effort you can clean them off after using dry erase.
I did a quick search on amazon (because I have a similar problem) and found this.
Seems like you could fit several decks in each cube, might work for ya.
I always have a laptop nearby to look up rules or go to judgechat.
For the lifecounter, I use "Simple Life"
For my EDH games, I use MTG Tracker
I am trying to find an app that is better at tracking life (and cmdr dmg) for EDH games. The MTG Tracker is ok, but it shows max 3 players on my phone, which kind of sucks with 4 player games. If only simple life would be updated to support 4 player EDH.
Sounds like you are taking a level headed and analytical approach, I commend you on that.
[[Eternal Witness]]
[[Green Sun's Zenith]]
[[Natural Order]]
[[Beast Within]]
[[Krosan Grip]]
[[Cultivate]] and its functional reprint cousin [[Kodama's Reach]]
[[Oracle of Mul Daya]]
[[Craterhoof Behemoth]]
[[Genesis Wave]]
The mana dorks: [[LLanowar Elves]], [[Elvish Mystic]], [[Fyndhorn Elves]], [[Arbor Elf]], [[Birds of Paradise]]
[[Acidic Slime]] and [[Reclamation Sage]]
There are essentially 3 banlists for Commander. The main one is the Rules Committee Banlist that Wizards supports for Multiplayer Commander (EDH). It is found here and here. The other 2 are for MTGO 1v1 Commander and Duel Commander aka French Commander.
Those are all great, also consider Ghalta or [[Omnath, Locus of Mana]]
I personally wouldn't, but spoiler season for Commander 18 will likely start any day now with GP Vegas happening this weekend, so its up to you.....
Play to have fun with friends you make, not to win every game. EDH has a social contract which makes it different than other constructed Magic formats.
Make sure to run at least one thing that makes these awesome Viking Zombie tokens, I recommend Grave Titan or Curse of Disturbance: https://magic.wizards.com/sites/mtg/files/image_legacy_migration/magic/images/mtgcom/arcana1000/1418_ZombieToken.jpg
The /r/mtgbrawl subreddit is still fairly active; I don't play Brawl nor am I even interested in it but I subscribed JUST to have an idea how many people were talking about it (not nearly as active as any of the format-specific subs).
The format is dead, I believe; but it's partly because I believe Wizards hasn't done enough to actually support it...and I also don't believe it was ever really ALIVE in the first place. There's also WAY too much of a division between players on how to play the format (1v1 or multiplayer).
Look at the strawpoll on the front page of the /r/mtgbrawl subreddit right now: the results are pretty interesting as of this writing.
https://www.strawpoll.me/16061784/r
34% favor 1v1, 34% favor mp, and 32% favor "both" which really isn't an answer imo. You could probably just chalk it up to 50% of players preferring one way to play over the other. There's just not enough focus.
Hang on, isn't rotation when the 9th set would enter Standard? KLD, AER, AKH, HOU, XLN, ROI is only 6 sets. Standard can have 5, 6, 7, or 8 sets in the format, with 4 sets rotating out at the same time. Kaladesh and Amonkhet blocks would rotate when "Spaghetti", the set after Core 2019, releases. There is a graphic here showing standard rotation if you want to check it out..
If your playgroup is "super casual", you have no real need for a banlist. Paper EDH is typically played in 4 man games using the banlist found here:
https://magic.wizards.com/en/content/commander format
With that said, your playgroup has to decide what banlist works for you.
optimized gfy(html5 video) version of the gif
Oh man it’s already over for 2020 I guess…
I use a Logitech BRIO attached to a flexible webcam stand.
You don't need something as expensive as a BRIO (I had the cam already for working at home) if you are only using it for Spelltable. Just make sure whatever camera you get is compatible for the mount you have. I really like the flexible arms, but they aren't terribly steady. They are normally fine, but if you already have a desk that moves a little, then it might be an issue.
Another note, you want your play area to be bright, but you don't want the light shining directly down on your table. So I'd avoid cameras with built in lights, as those tend to cause glare on the card sleeves (in my personal experience at least).
Never mind, found them! "KMC Oversized Character Sleeve Guards". Here's an Amazon Smile link: https://smile.amazon.com/KMC-Over-Sized-Character-Sleeve-Guards/dp/B01MZ2FUD2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1494114406&sr=8-3&keywords=kmc+oversized+sleeves
I had this exact issue with them. Loved the boxes, hated the rattling dice noise. I tried a little foam cutout but that was annoying in its own way. So I cut out the middleman and just went to foam dice. I picked up a couple packs of these from amazon and they work perfectly. https://www.amazon.com/Nasco-TB18746T-Square-36-Piece-Yellow/dp/B00EJSLPQ2/
they make them with both dots and numbers, and as an added bonus, you know they'll never damage anyone's cards (a couple people have some metal dice, which look cool, but please don't roll them across my bayou)
Just gonna drop links to play Planechase since I was looking at it anyway.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.NevermindCreations.Planechase
Website: http://humpheh.com/magic/p/
Both are pretty sweet from what i can tell. HQ Images and easy to use interface. Looks sweet on a tablet.
No, but it is the primary artifact color according to the color pie.
"Blue loves artifacts and, as such, is the color that interacts the most with them. White's interaction is mostly with Equipment, while red often likes to use artifacts as a resource."
They've been confirmed to be coming in this battlebond article. My guess would be in c19, as it feels too soon for c18 but it's not out of the question!
https://magic.wizards.com/en/game-info/gameplay/rules-and-formats/banned-restricted
Please check out the commander ban list, then you can go to the bottom of the page and see separate links for the Online formats which have different ban lists (for some reason.) You will notice Edgar and others are there on the online format ban list.
Definitely not trying to start trouble or argue. Just politely pointing out the difference based on what was shown to me by my playgroup and in turn spreading the knowledge.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/card-preview/new-challenger-approaches-2018-05-21
>Shawn's solution for this was to really focus on allied color pairs, using five primary color pairs instead of ten.
>Why allied over enemy? Well, allied pairs tended to have more natural strategies to build around that made sense. Decks like blue-black control and red-green ramp are things both natural fits, and there are plenty of great reprints to support.
>Additionally, making the colors about allies meant that we could make the partner with creatures (then duos) enemy colors. Commander could use more enemy color legends, and it would allow for many of the fun opposites, creatively speaking, and partner pairs that Battlebond has.
>Huh? What does partner have to do with this?
>Well, partners should ideally go with one each into the player's decks. That helps make the great moments where you both slam one on the same turn more frequent. So, they should be the opposite of what the rest of the set is pointing toward: if the color pairs were ally colors, they should be enemy colors; if the color pairs were enemies, the partners should be allies. If you draft a blue and a green pair, for example, then if both your giant's two heads are playing ally color decks, the pair won't end up in the same deck together.
I might be reading that wrong, it does get sort of disjointed, but that is what it sounds like to me. (it is in the For the Alliance section)
Yeah. You can't expect to run through every possible variable each time you make a decision, and more often than not your gut instinct will be a decent play if not a perfect one. I don't know you but I would guess that you've got some sort of anxiety about making mistakes which is why you're overthinking and taking so long. Just try to relax and have fun with what you do.
Side note, in tournaments taking 20-30 seconds without doing something can get you a warning.
Hey ME TOO virtual high five
As a 33 year old, I've been playing off and on casually (kitchen table, school lunch table) since Ice Age, but NEVER have attended an event at an LGS before. Last week I walked into my LGS and asked about Pre-Release and pre-ordered a box of Dominaria because this set has me hyped. I guess what I would recommend is going to talk to your LGS with your brother-in-law and figure out time and price of the event so you know what to expect from that store specifically.
In regards to the cards themselves, a Pre-Release is an event where you pay $25-$30 for 6 boosters and make a 40-card deck out of it to play against other patrons of the event. It's recommended to bring side decks to play if there's downtime. Whether that means 60 card decks (Brawl, Standard, Modern, etc.) or EDH is probably a question for your LGS, however I imagine that "EDH" and "Downtime" don't often coincide.
Highly recommend the primer here that Wizards put out earlier this week:
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/feature/dominaria-prerelease-primer-2018-04-16
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/dominaria-oracle-changes-2018-04-13 shows that these cards will no longer ever be able to use their innate abilities to damage or prevent damage to planeswalkers.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/news/dominaria-oracle-changes-2018-04-13 shows that these cards will no longer ever be able to use their innate abilities to damage or prevent damage to planeswalkers.
Here's the apk!

I've added some more dragons, so now there are 57 dragons total, including Scion. That's about a third of all dragons in MTG, but if there's a particular one that I missed, let me know and I'll add it. If you spot something wrong or a typo, send me a message and I'll make a new one.
Well sucks and isn't fair, but don't let it get you down. There are other places besides a LGS to play, hopefully you can find one of those if it's important to you. If you are looking for any suggestions there are: discord server for paper EDH games using a web cam to show your board state. xmage, cockatrice, and tabletop simulator. untap.io as well. I'm almost certain there will be a facebook group for MTG in your nearest local city- if not you can try creating your own, or on meetup.com or other social media.

Or just Arena. There are ways to get your EDH and social fix though that Arena doesn't satisfy.
Personally I like just running a generally political deck - the "bad for controller" permanents are just begging to get your general tucked ASAP.
Good auras to donate - [[Oblivion Ring]] / [[Journey to Nowhere]] and other Pacifism effects. [[Mind Control]], give the creature to someone else! In a similar fashion, you can use [[Act of Treason]] and the like to switch things up.
Also good - Stuff that exchanges lands like [[Political Trickery]] and [[Changing Borders]]. Cards with a constant effect like [[Howling Mine]] / [[Dictate of Kruphix]].
And last but not least, a comedic Zedruu primer
Someone else made an interesting point. If BR has this legendary that combines creatures, what is GW Crossbreed Labs going to have? What if it ends up being Qubits? Like, starting with a core creature and then attaching other creatures as arms and legs that add power and toughness. And then if the creature would die, it just loses a limb instead.
In one of my pods it got so bad that I bought enough of these dice so everyone in my playgroup could use them and they've been such a great addition that they bought their own.
We can keep track of counters AND anthem effects pretty well now. The only real game effects that are harder to indicate are things like +1/0 or 0/+3.
In response to OP, it's a pet peeve of mine when someone plays a card and then doesn't say anything about what they played or what the card does. Oh, you're annoyed I asked you to read it out loud/look at it? Well forgive me for not knowing every card in Magic, I'm just trying to play a game which involves PLAYING AROUND THE CARDS YOU HAVE ON THE FIELD, JANETTE.
Yesker Camera Backpack Professional DSLR/SLR Camera Bag Waterproof Shockproof, Camera Case https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085DMMN7G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_6WE4ZTEGMCARWYKDBCGE?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I use this camera bag holds my 6 decks 3 Mats and dice container works really well and a lot cheaper than other deck holders. The inside compartment can be re arranged depending how you want it.
My advice to anyone who will listen to me is to get this item from Amazon:
It's a pocket microscope that is perfect for doing the green dot test (Google it for more detail if unsure) on cards. I've gotten counterfeit cards that were only $25 or so, so it's not inconceivable for people to be counterfeiting rhystic studies. It's a great tool that will give peace of mind, and pays for itself the first time you find a counterfeit. Really can't recommend this enough!
Yes if you have no deck at all and no real collection, your best bet is to find a precon that interests you and then upgrade from there. The precons come with a lot of the staples like [[sol ring]]
I'd recommend one of the 2 color ones if possible so that you need less of the expensive lands as you would with a 3-5 color deck.
Here's an example of one of them:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08NXYL2X2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glc_fabc_F5JDCR4S1RVHGF81E6X9
But take a look at them to decide which are the most interesting to you.
I like the 150 card Ultra pro boxes. Some call them the "Darksteel Plastic" boxes, since they're very durable. They are clear, so you can see your commander on top, and also pretty cheap compared to most options.
Be sure to get the 150 size, as 100 will not hold a fully sleeved commander deck comfortably. You can get them on Amazon as an add-on item, but I usually find them on Ebay.
Ultra Pro 150-Count 2-Piece Plastic Box https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002TT3LG/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_zi9ivb1AG68YA
160 model on amazon for ~$30 https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Guard-Standard-XenoSkin-Purple/dp/B01LZY554H/ref=mp_s_a_1_11?keywords=ultimate+guard+flip+n+tray&qid=1573440918&sprefix=ultimate+guard+flip&sr=8-11
That one is purple but they come in other colors for sure. Mine are black and blue.
Cases are very sturdy, the magnets are strong, and I’d trust the Xenoskin on unsleeved cards (but I don’t trust my oily as hell hands, so I’ll never play unsleeved again).
I use the Delver Lens app, and import the .csv into Cardsphere for trading.
Every card I own is listed on Cardsphere so I can search it at the drop of a hat. Most of my trading is done through Cardsphere, but if I do any "outside" trading, it's kind of a pain to maintain. Still worth it though!
I have been using this one for my android phone
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.carlol.mtgu.mobile
I like it because you can search cards and view the Oracle text and rulings offline.
The deckbuilder isn't great, but it works and it lets you check stats and goldfish and stuff.
The trade function is super handy, and then I use the favorites part for just cards I want to add to my decks, and when I make an order online I just go through those.
I bought a set of planeswalker dice, they're still d6s, but some are numbered 1-6, some 7-12. They also have the loyalty symbol around each number which helps, and the corners aren't rounded, so you don't have as much of a chance of upsetting the numbers. I can't remember the website I got mine from, they sold some other interesting dice like spindown d10s, and a d6 that counts by twos, but here's an example on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Planeswalker-7-12-Loyalty-Dice-Magic/dp/B01F9EPYFM
I love that you're playing this deck and promoting it's use. Coin flips are awesome! I will say that it gets a little dry playing across from it and waiting for 40 coins to be flipped. A while back I made a really basic app that could probably use some updating but it just tossed it together over a couple weekends. It's just on Android but it's free and no adds.

[[Ashes to Ashes]] is a solid black utility spell. Black doesn't usually get exile that efficiently costed (life is only a resource), much less two creatures for one card. That's a directly path to card advantage - or what can make you win a game.
[[Nature's Claim]] is solid removal too. Solves a lot of problems while leaving very little mana up.
watch out with precons while usualy most of them are good value and a good base for a good deck. Not all of them function that well right out of the box. Also some of them are expensive.
also commander antology exists if you want to spend a bit more but the value is good if you can get it close to MSRP. It's 4 commander precons from diffrent years with atleast 2/3 of them having very popular commanders and good value

not that mutch zombies though merren the green black one is heavy on the greavyard shenanigans
ACKSHYUALLY the official stance on non-sanctioned playtest proxies is "do whatever lol we don't judge kitchen table games"
I’m not particularly knowledgeable about the lore, but that sounds like any [[gideon]] or [[ajani]] card. [[kytheon, hero of akros]] flips into [[gideon battle forged]] and can be used as a commander. It’s mono white, which mechanically and theoretically fits what it sounds like you’re aiming for. White as a color has several weaknesses, but it has some strengths as well. It sucks at ramp and card draw, but it’s great at defense style play and making tokens.
If you’re interested in his lore specifically, here’s an article: https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/uncharted-realms/gideons-origin-kytheon-iora-akros-2015-07-01

You missed some big ones
[[ineffable blessing]], the flavorful/bland version is utterly busted, especially with tokens, and there are multiple versions
[[angelic rocket]] for artifact reanimators like daretti
[[animate library]] is pretty much guaranteed to be big enough to take out an opponent with a cheesy [[fling]]/[[rite of consumption]] combo
Dishonorable mention - [[modular monstrosity]] - I wouldn't play this just because it's dumb and annoying, but it's undeniably broken
I think it's worth mentioning one version of everythingamajig is a 5cmc [[ashnod's altar]], a very powerful and popular card in EDH
Also could have seen [[x]] or [[ol' buzzbark]]
It was in the FAQAWASLFAQPAFTIDAWABIAJTBT If you scroll down to Baron Von Count in specific cards they confirm it
I agree with the recommendation to start with a precon. My favorite precon, and one that is decently powerful out of the box, is Swell the Host, which uses [[Ezuri, Claw of Progress]] as its Commander. It's from the Commander 2015 precons but can still be found on Amazon and the like for under $40:
It has the potential to be upgraded to a fairly powerful deck.
Each deck has an instruction sheet, but it is not really designed to teach you how to play Magic. It does talk a bit about the strategy of the deck and, if my recollection serves me right, it also briefly covers the differences between Commander and a regular game of Magic.
Reid Duke, a pro and one of the game's top players, has written a series of articles on how to play Magic. These have been organized as an online course on Wizards' web site:
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/level-one/level-one-full-course-2015-10-05
They don't focus on Commander, but they cover pretty much every topic you need to know to play Magic.
Good luck!
Hey XFactor, welcome back! there are a lot of terms here so let's try and break them down.
Goodstuff is exactly what it sounds like, the best cards available to you in those colors. No other big themes, just good cards
You have lords down, it's just creatures that provide a buff to your creatures (or everyones, like the old slivers)
Dorks are creatures that are usually one mana and produce their own mana, see [[Elvish Mystic]], [[Llanowar Elves]]
Rocks are Artifacts that produce mana, like [[Sol Ring]].
I'm not sure what burials mean, but Hideaway is a triggered ability on some lands that lets you look at the top 4 cards of your deck, choose 1, and put it face down under the land. Then for 1 mana, it lets you cast it once a requirement is met.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/level-one/glossary-terms-2015-09-21 here's a list of some terms from MTG themselves.
[VINTAGE
Revised: September 1, 2017](https://magic.wizards.com/en/game-info/gameplay/rules-and-formats/banned-restricted)
While Modern lets you play cards from as far back as 2003, Vintage lets you play cards from any set in the 20+ year history of Magic!
The following cards are banned from vintage play:
25 cards with the Card Type “Conspiracy.” Click here for list.
9 cards that reference "playing for ante." Click here for list. Chaos Orb
Falling Star
Shahrazad
The video loop itself can be viewed in its entirety here. Definitely vampires, but that last one is up for debate. Clerics? Humans? Wizards? Zombies? Advisors?
It appears that was part of the $25,000 stretch goal that has recently been achieved.

I bought some blank white glossy cards on Amazon a while ago. Basically InfiniTokens but completely blank a lot cheaper, I got a 50-pack for $5. They work perfectly.
I bought this a few months ago and love it. Fits a little snug double sleeved but works. Quality on it is pretty phenomenal for $20. I use dragon shield outer and inner sleeves btw

I use these, they seem to work well. I think they’re kinda expensive for sleeves, but they all seem that way lately.
I've been using this tool box for years. Each of the compartments easily fits a fully sleeved EDH deck. The two larger compartments can be swapped out if preferred, allowing max storage of 16 decks (you'll need to buy 4 more small compartments if you do this). Otherwise, it holds 12 decks and has plenty of room for a dice bag, box of sleeves, etc.

I use MTG Familiar on my phone. It has a substantial search function and if I find a card effect that I like I usually just take the phrase and plug it into its "card text" function in addition to any other filters I want and see what it dumps out.
Ill take some photos when I get home at work, but for now heres what I use for the playmat
these are worth it- dont bother with the monster ones, they'll crack and break easily. the matpods come in 4 colors and fit in perfectly where the cradle and strap are for where the tripod is stored. You can also just use a smaller cardboard tube that posters usually come in (which is what I did before I found the matpod)
How to Teferi for under 35 dollars.
The deck is under 19 dollars on Amazon. The cards you add to improve the deck are about 8 dollars. Add shipping and it's under $35. Although I've added some cards from the original list (I've probably added 30-40 dollars worth or cards at this point), I've been playing a list based on this for over a year, it's a blast.
To the cardboard box? You might check your LGS, they'll probably have some, but if not Amazon sells them: 800 ct box
Although apparently they are technically 800 ct rather than the 1000 ct games stores claim they are. Oh well, close enough.
