It's a tricky question, and the issue with GTA V being on the Epic Games Store is that the game is not mod friendly.

It's likely that upon changing anything in the game, the game will produce an error message or redownload the game.

I haven't tested the game yet because EGS has been down today, but censorship could be a huge issue in these games. It's not a bad version probably but the problem is that it's going to be lazily coded and modders will probably try to fix visual glitches if there are any. Although, because it's an impression to many consumers, Rockstar may be trying to fix any issues they have and trying to keep it up to date with the Steam release (which has its own issues as well).

I believe they will fix modding because it's huge but paying for GTA V is a great option. ScriptHookV will not run due to an "unknown game version", eliminating most mods.

On Green Man Gaming it's $13.20, which is a small price to pay for mod support and general support for the game. It's most likely outdated.

As for online support it's there but a lot of the "good players" are threatening to quit due to what they believe will happen to the game's community due to it being free.

Right now it is not worth it to get the EGS version of the game because it is on a technical level inferior to the Steam version.

If you'd like to buy the game you can do so here. If money is an issue I would implore you to play the game, but wait until mod support has been allowed by EG. Epic Games is working on it, but for now the mod support seems restricted to solely EG and many mod creators may refuse to make mods for the EGS version. Along with that due to technical issues, it may not be even possible, even if they wanted to bring it over.

Say I wanted to write such a bot, let's break it down.

It's doable to write a script that fetches Reddit posts from say /r/FREE, and scrape them for what looks like Steam keys. You might even be clever enough and attempt to parse natural language in the post text, to make it handle simple substitutions instructions (like replace ? with A). You must be a regexp wizard!

So now the bot managed to scrape a key, it needs to activate it on Steam; Since you can't activate a game you already own, the bot must maintain a database of several accounts, and pick an account that doesn't own said game. Not to mention things like DLC keys that require a base game.

For starters, Steam has measures to make it difficult to create accounts readily (captcha, email verification, etc.)

Not to mention it doesn't provide an API for claiming keys, which means the bot must use the website: first log-in, use this page to fill the form and hit the submit button...

This bot will certainly have its share of false positives, picking up what looks like keys but aren't or maybe dupe keys. By repeatedly activating invalid keys, it will eventually trigger the rate-limit, which blocks the account from activating any more keys for a period of time (30 min or so)..

Do you still think there are bots out there that do all that, and still manage to snatch keys automatically in a matter of seconds as people keep complaining?

It is still being developed, so I don't really have a definite answer. I can say how I use it: I share interesting articles I find while browsing the web or if friends send me links to such articles.
