Not sure why there is such a hard on for mobile network speed. Your capped at 8gb. It's not like your sharing this with the whole family and friends at home.
Anywho...... I'm getting 29 down in Ottawa South. Check out my Speedtest result! How fast is your internet? https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/4431071485
This is fast enough for my Reddit addiction, downloading of music and watching the occasional video. I'm not racing torrents on this connection.
I average about 60. u/ShawnMurica is right though, speeds over 100 Mbps are overkill for a mobile phone. Nothing you do on a phone requires those speeds, not even streaming 4K. Anyway Koodo (Telus) has carrier aggregation (hence faster speeds), which Videotron (Fizz) is supposedly working on deploying soon.

Network Cell Info app let's you check what 2G/3G/4G/LTE band you're on, and more.
My mom got this phone Umdigi A3X.
It’s not really expensive and the screen quality is nice. She bought it about 6 months ago and theres no problem with it yet.
Edit: its currently unavailable in Canada, but u could get a similar phone from the same company
Speedtest might not be the best way to test depending on what you’re looking for. There could be variances in the actual download speed that change every few seconds or minutes. A good way to test WiFi signal strength is to download something like WifiAnalyzer and see what the strength is in dBm. If you’re getting about -67 to -70 dBm everywhere you need it, that’s a good strength. -70 to -80 dBm and less means you’re getting poor WiFi signal.
If you rarely call, why not just get a data-only plan and use TextNow to get a free local phone number? You can call, SMS and MMS for free with it.
It's faster than advertised.

I have a few security cameras that upload to the cloud so my upload speed is a little bogged down.
Since Fizz is operated by Videotron/Quebecor, Fizz internet is really just Videotron internet with a Fizz logo on the router. You get a Videotron IP address (which is why Speedtest identifies my ISP as Videotron) and don't need to worry if your IISP prepaid for enough capacity.
> very few android phones
Anyone with an Android phone can have visual voicemail, unless you have a 10 year old phone. You would just use a separate app that Fizz made.
That's why they mentioned an adapter, like THIS
You can check this site to see how well your phone will be supported in Canada.
Fizz uses B4 (1700/2100 AWS 1) which is supported by the American version of the phone, but you might have the international version.
If your fizz internet is not working and you've reset the modem, if fast.com shows slower results and if your internet after some time 'drops' dead and stops working, then open a ticket with fizz support as there may be something physical interfering with the signal, such as bad splitter, damaged coax cable etc. log in to fizz website, search for help and scroll down until you see 'the chat bubble' on lower right corner.
And are the mms working on your phone? The unofficial adguard for magisk suggest that it might be an issue. (https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-adguarddns-ad-free-experience-t3848166) Or, you're using the play store version?
I had PIA before switching to Windscribe. I prefer Windscribe and find it much faster. Here's a speed test I just ran with Windscribe: https://www.speedtest.net/result/8090688463
Windscribe's desktop app is a gazillion times better than PIA's bizarre and clunky Windows app. The Android app is pretty good too.

Ancient technology! A $40 router on Amazon would perform better. With only 60 Mbps, you don't need anything spectacular. Something like this should do the trick.
Could be many things.
Router could be broken.
Near neighborhood wifi could cause a problem. Use this app on your phone to look at your signal compared to others https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer.
Try temporaryly with a wire, use that old laptop to go near the router if you do not have a long enough cable.
Other problem possibility is a problem with the cable outside.
In any case, buying new hardware or reinstalling windows is just a lost of money and time.
If the router or outside cable is the problem, support should be able to tell and send a technician who can replace the modem and make sure cable service is OK.
From my experience the best way to reach support is by FB messenger, juste not expect realtime conversation.
Good luck.
Correct.
I personally have 3 switches for my house network so it's not an issue.
You can get this if anything:
https://www.amazon.ca/TP-Link-TL-SG1005D-1000Mbps-Gigabit-Capacity/dp/B000N99BBC
Ideally, you'd have your router in the middle of your house, but I understand the limitations you could have (such as the location of the cable entry wire).
I wouldn't really be able to recommend you a router for a 3 story house, but in my (limited) opinion, it's going to be hard to find a router that can do all 3 floors at high speed. For sure the TP-Link AC1750 or AC1900 will provide better wifi than the Fizz router, and they possibly/probably will reach your second floor, but it will probably be a slow connection.
You could look into access points, wifi repeaters or Power over Ethernet (Powerline) modules. With Powerline, you plug an ethernet port of your router to the Powerline module, which is plugged into a wall power socket. It then modulates the "Ethernet signal" over your power lines, and all you have to do is plug in another module on your 2nd floor and add another router/access point there. I've never use this tech before, and I don't know if its affected by how your main circuit breaker board is wired. I also don't know much about access points and how easy it is to program it in such a way that it is the same wifi ssid being broadcasted. There seems to be a few powerline kits (of 2 modules) on amazon for 80ish $.
I also don't know if the Fizz modem can still function as a wifi router if you pair it with an access point or if you need your own router + access point.
Edit: If you buy a router to use as an access point, make sure it has an AP mode.
Hi, I would definitely recommend the Orbi. The only negative review I read relates to their short technical support period.
I bought the NETGEAR Orbi AC3000 Mesh Whole-Home Wi-Fi System (RBK50-100CNS) - 2 Pack from Best Buy on special for 399.99$ (I think it was 100$ off).
The router is in the basement, next to the basement, and the satellite is one floor above (on main floor), in diagonal to router. Note that it is a two-storey home + the basement and the coverage is amazing everywhere.
I have close to 30 devices connected at same time (cameras, iPads, iPhones, iPods, etc), with my wife and I working from home full-time due to COVID-19, my daughter watching Netflix, and both boys playing Fortnite (one on PC and one on PS4). In the six months I have had the Orbi, it has given constant and reliable performance.
They are expensive, but worth the price! Amazon has them on special for 424$:
https://www.amazon.ca/NETGEAR-Orbi-Home-WiFi-System/dp/B01LY964U3
I'm guessing those options will be supported in the following days and/or the website has not yet been updated?

Also, weirdly enough Fizz does not yet have an Android app to manage your account, yet it has a Fizz Wi-Fi app
Here you go: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer
I might have paid for it though, I don’t remember because if I did it was years ago.
This one actually looks better and it’s free and open source: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vrem.wifianalyzer
I've been using nPerf, You set your data plan, day of reset, and it keeps track of your usage in the notification drawer.
Quick update:
Speeds always remain optimal when it works. Apparently NordVPN connection is not the cause of the issue. All PCs (3) are running ping tests over console. They expose similar outputs. This really is a PoS and it's weak af. A technician is scheduled to come for a second time tuesday morning, guess I'll have my router changed for a second time until it fails again. One month in and it's the third time I get someone here to fix this scheisse. I wonder how they get into their money with such shitty equipment.

I just go my powerline unit and I am getting 60+ Mbps, basically it works like a Ethernet cable but has 2 adapters 1 you connect to your computer, one to the router. This is what I got: TP-LINK TL-PA7010 KIT AV1000 1-Port Gigabit Powerline Adapter up to 1000Mbps https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B06WP2ZT5N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_jy3wCbWTA27FN
It's not the cheapest, but it will save me loads of time, and time=.
