Oh cool, lies!
Somehow his actual role as a Team Lead magically turned into Lead Developer and Associate Producer into Lead Producer. Now, these roles are important to game production but let's be real here: he was middle management.
trbvm.com is a disposable email service: http://10minutemail.com/10MinuteMail/index.html
Please, tell me how this is at all 'doxxing' when it's not even a proper email account.
Oh wait, it's Gators distorting stuff to make Anita look bad.
(And there's another use of 'devaluing men', which appeared on that 'invisible benefits of gaming while female' list. Is this something Gators have picked up from someone?)
Yeah. You know what actual pedophiles who want help do? They seek help. They try to stop viewing child porn.
Having child porn laying around does not help them in any way.
I'm not even the person that creates the whitelist, anymore. ggautoblocker has an appeals board where all requests and discussion is public. Because, you know, ethics. Also, I've got some amazing people helping out with them. Mad props to them. :)
Hehe, the early party line seems to be that Buzzfeed made up the entire interview:
https://twitter.com/nickwcoleman/status/595846812906446848 (https://archive.is/1rcBz)
In Chan Land you can just make shit up constantly because nobody has any credibility to lose. They don't realize that in the real world faking an interview would basically be the end of a journalist's career, if not the entire site that posted it.
Strictly speaking, there is no Antifa organization anymore, originally "Antifaschistische Aktion", a pre-WW2 German antifascist movement, and it's basically an ideology and ways of organizing agaist fascism and racism.
Many left-wing socialist and anarchist groups have adopted their methods.
What the rightwing media is trying to push is that basically the Black Bloc is "Antifa", they're the ones with masks that people normally first think of whenever Antifa is mentioned and on the occasion doing the vandalism bits.
There are many other groups that do not do that and are aligned with Antifa views and methods, like Maledicte said.
Recommended reading: Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook by Mark Bray. He was on a podcast a while back explaining the basics, but I've forgotten what it was. I'll update when I remember/find it.
edit: Ah, here it is, it's on The Gist podcast from Slate, [here it is](www.slate.com/articles/podcasts/gist/2017/08/author_mark_bray_on_the_antifa_movement.html).
The interview with Bray starts at around 4min 40secs.
edit2: I just realized that my comment makes it sound that I'm down on the Black Bloc, but it's not as clear-cut as that. Yeah, I disagree with some of their methods, but they are Activists with a capital 'A' and they don't shy away from direct action which I can respect.

I mean, Cage has pulled off some pretty creepy shit in the past, makes these 5 year old articles seem even creepier in retrospect:

Ok, the latter might have been a forgotten asset by a designer, but after all this...
THIS piece has already been written, and captures the Daily Stormer in its rightful place as the core of the movement: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/daily-stormer-nazi-style-guide_n_5a2ece19e4b0ce3b344492f2
The service is being extensively freeped by MRAs. You'll notice that the scorecard for A Voice for Men is unusually green for a site that endorses beating women up and ran a sister site that existed specifically to dox and terrorize women.
The Color of Law is a great book that covers all the strategies used to keep neighborhoods segregated after discriminating based on race was no longer legal, including how HOAs were used.
Itch is pretty good. I can't find the tweet now, but I think I remember seeing a tweet from them talking about how they take reports of games with bad messaging seriously. This was in the wake of steam throwing up their hands and saying they didn't want to filter out content that promotes bigotry or incites violence.
Also in The Art of War -
> It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be imperiled in a hundred battles; if you do not know your enemies but do know yourself, you will win one and lose one; if you do not know your enemies nor yourself, you will be imperiled in every single battle.
Well they certainly don't know shit about us, but I'm not actually convinced they know themselves, either.
I'm sure that'll be fine, though. That's the one where you win everything, right? Imperiled means win, yeah?
"Just a suggestion, whoever your front ends up being they can't be straight and/or male. Transmales are also bad. Transwoman would be the ideal, next step down is a just a girl. If you can get a girl to be the front, then she should claim to be a lesbian or at least asexual. Bisexual is a bad word (because it implies binary gender), use pansexual or polyromantic instead. If you can't find any better then a male will do but they will have to have colored hair and they have to claim to be genderfluid, it's the bare minimum, anything else is not oppressed enough to bait SJWs."

Edit: here's the original archive link some gator posted that I posted in another thread and just deleted: https://archive.is/nHvIj
If a GamerGater starts to say they Vox Day was never supported, remind them of their campaign against Popular Science slandering him by calling him a White Supremacist for this innocuous statement:
>Unlike the white males she excoriates, there is no evidence to be found anywhere on the planet that a society of NK Jemisins is capable of building an advanced civilization, or even successfully maintaining one without significant external support from those white males. If one considers that it took my English and German ancestors more than one thousand years to become fully civilized after their first contact with advanced Greco-Roman civilization, it should be patently obvious that it is illogical to imagine, let alone insist, that Africans have somehow managed to do the same in less than half the time at a greater geographic distance. These things take time.
Yes, a whole bunch of GGers thought that was not racist and joined his campaign. This has everything to do with GG.
Also that comment on the video:
>I fail to see what this has to do with journalistic ethics in the game industry.
Hahaha! Fucking Sargon is saying this. Oh my God, I'm dead.
I thought Ana was a black woman when all I knew of her was her image, but reading her story now, I now know she's from Egypt. I'm out of the loop on the specifics of being "black".
I had a disturbing thought, but I had to check.
https://www.tumblr.com/search/Swastika
Yes, apparently all material in the search for lesbians is not safe for work. But if you want to search for the fucking SWASTIKA, then all of a sudden, tumblr has no problem.
Jesus.
It is also worth noting that Mr. Fart is the most retweeted user in #Gamergate. He's hardly nobody; he's one of the most prolific members of their movement.
Source: https://medium.com/message/72-hours-of-gamergate-e00513f7cf5d See the "There's little overlap between communities" section.
No, it's not even close. It just looks like someone copy-pasted a couple of comments from /r/TumblrInAction and put the Onion logo over it.
Actually, I'm not even sure what that tweet is trying to say. It reads:
>Media focus more on shirt than achievement of science. The Onion mocks journalism. #gamergate #SPJEthicsWeek
...but the fake Onion article is itself mocking Tumblr users, not "journalism." So even if you thought it was real, it would be saying the opposite of what he's implying? I'm so confused.
Speaking of confused, a lot of the people replying to that tweet seem to believe that it is in fact a real article.
>I know it's hyperbole but its sad how close its coming to reality.
>--- >In fairness, lampooning these twits is like shooting fish in a barrel.
>--- >>not evening
>I fucking love the Onion
>--- >i know The Onion is a parody news thing..but...what does it say when the pardy is reality...? O_o
>--- >It says that our society has dissolved into a parody of itself.
Personally, I think it says that for all their pride in their supposed native-born internet savvy, GamerGaters are hilariously inept at identifying even the biggest name in internet satire, suggesting that all the years of browsing online shitholes that they imagine have inoculated them against being "trolled" have gone to waste. It's like some sort of double-reverse Literally Unbelievable.
>I am a gay social worker. I have met a wheelchair-bound man who loves video games. I have met a brave feminist woman who dares to challenge the status quo. I have met people with Autism who want to help make video games and those who play them. I have met men who created female characters that are strong, brave, and courageous.
>I have talked to GulletGawker supporters in emotional crisis. People who want to kill themselves because of those who oppose GulletGawker have become so cruel to humanity. People who have been bullied their entire lives are being subjected, once again, to bullying from the cultural elitists who believe they have the predestination to tell others what to do.
I've met a lot of fucked up social workers, but I feel bad for anyone that this guy is "counselling".
He's met a wheelchair-bound man, has he? If he was a half-decent social worker who works with people who have disabilities, he'd know that "wheelchair-bound" isn't exactly the preferred nomenclature. But, whatever, as long as he's willing to push his clients' narratives to further his political agenda...
Listen up young'uns, back in the day we didn't have your fancy Reddits and "World Wide Webs". When we wanted to have stupid arguments about video games on the Internet, we did it on Usenet.
And when we did, if you happen to mention space games, the developer of BC3000AD, Dr. Smart himself, would come with fire and flame and giant walls of text. Here's an archival post from 1998 which lays out some of the history: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic/E7q27JJGvJ4
Derek Smart reentering gaming news with the Star Citizen crusade and now this is really quite an unpleasant nostalgia trip for us old folks. It's like these guys dug up a Balrog.
I know that many have been confused by GG's latest narrative as outlined here:

And here:
So I've drawn up this helpful chart that should hopefully get you all up to speed. This is 100% trusted and verified.
You guys, there appear to be some major inaccuracies in this article. I'll let Eron explain:
The author misidentified the style of jeans he was wearing, and he made some puns.
Everything else is spot on, though.
And so little readership that, aside from a spike in November associated with a single article, they've fallen off the bottom of the Alexa charts.
Edit: specific figures!
TechRaptor: approximately the 110,000th-busiest site on the internet, and this number will decline precipitously in February, since most of their traffic is related to a huge spike in late November which has utterly failed to sustain itself. The ranking is averaged over three months; once the spike falls off the charts, their ranking will plummet. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/techraptor.net
Kotaku: approximately the 600th-busiest site on the internet, with stable increases since January of last year. (They're down a bit over their ranking in November, but they're way -- WAY -- above where they were 6 months ago, which was itself a significant increase over the 12-month mark.) http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/kotaku.com
ANY DAY NOW GUYS
JUST YOU WAIT
TECHRAPTOR'S TAKING OVER
This was posted over on Metafilter, and there are some solid comments.
>Humans are crazy, but Vulcans don't hang out with humans because they're crazy and provide research fodder. Vulcans are analytical and recognize that hanging out with humans is inherently dangerous, and research can be gotten much more safely and securely.
>No, the reason Vulcans hang out with humans is simple: because wherever the Vulcans go in the universe, every other race treated them as, at best, a potential co-operative ally. More often they were regarded as a potential resource to be exploited or, in worst cases, an enemy to be annihilated.
>But when the Vulcans made first contact with Earth - "what the hell is that insane thing these aliens here have built, let's go look at it" - humans didn't look at them as an enemy or a resource or even an asset. No, the very first time humans met Vulcans, they tried to do the Vulcan hand thingy and they couldn't do it so they just offered a handshake, and then said "let's get drunk and party." THIS IS ACTUAL LITERAL CANON, REMEMBER.
And then, in response to "This all seems to imply that the Federation is made up entirely of boys/men. Or more specifically, bros."
>To be fair, B'ellana “It’s some sort of chromo-dynamic module powered by a tripolymer plasma” Torres once built a highly experimental spaceship with controls that her boyfriend scribbled ona napkin out of his favourite videogame, and then made it go so fast it deevolved the captain and her boyfriend into lizards who had space lizard babies and one of the lizards looked at her.
>And she's half klingon.
>Just imagine what a fully human female chief engineer might build?
If anyone's looking for a rational place to discuss whatever happens tonight, try Metafilter. Their previous Ferguson threads were great and very informative with reporters and people on the ground checking in. I think most Ghazians would feel at home there, especially since Metafilter was extremely hostile towards GG.
And I'll be sticking around here. I know GG is far, far down the list of important things. It's nothing compared to what's happening in Ferguson. But it's therapeutic to see the bad guys floundering and losing for once. They seem to be winning a lot lately.
EDIT: If anyone was wondering how Metafilter treats GG, a post about Randi Harper's blocklist appeared tonight. A gator was brave enough to come into the thread and tried sealioning everyone. It did not go well for him.
>There is no legal precedent to do this.
Ah? Really?
>That website linked to sites containing photographs of individual “child super models,” featuring young girls wearing underwear, lingerie, bathing suits and other revealing outfits and posed in provocative positions that constituted child pornography.
Gators, out experts in law!
Here's the full comment refereed to in the headline:
"Blocker (Mr. Fart) is the twitter user in question. Like RogueStar, he can get worked up but it at least seems like his heart is in the right place."
Like Roguestar! Another guy with his heart in the right place.
Here are the ones that used the hashtag April 22-23.
And here's an archive of that search result.
Can't access your link so I'm posting a better version of that link in this post. https://twitter.com/srhbutts/status/594426769479860224 Archive link to the tweet srhbutts showed since rouge will eventually delete that tweet. https://archive.is/gWKPU Sadly nothing will happen to rougestar in this case.
I'm finding similar results to this guy: https://medium.com/@MikeRTrice/gamergate-in-data-perspective-part-ii-gamergate-data-versus-gaming-data-9323ed68535f
Basically, you have a core group of people who tweet and their stuff is retweeted a great deal. There's limited dialogue/it's not very horizontal.
Nice to meet you too!
I think I am most proud of this piece, lately anyway: https://medium.com/@SaraJBenincasa/high-school-is-forever-cd7ece8a9cd8 It is sad and involves some heavy shit, but that's why I like it.
As a feminist I'm influenced by comedians, actually! Margaret Cho and Sandra Bernhard both shaped my understanding of what it meant to be a woman, a writer, a performer and a comic. I also learned quite a bit from the women's narratives recorded by Studs Terkel and by Howard Zinn's work highlighting underrepresented communities and movements in history.
I am not sure if I will do a follow-up. I feel I need to actually play games for a few months and move around in the community online and perhaps even offline at a con or meet up or something like that. My piece for Playboy was very personal and any follow-up would necessarily have to be personal as well.
I'm actually interested in the discourse here because I want to see what it's like. I'm learning the lingo, so to speak, and am being exposed to more and more perspectives as I go along. It seemed blatantly unfair to just do an AMA with the KiA folks and ignore the other voices. I should note I was never encouraged just to listen to the the KiA folks. But they did reach out to me first and issue encouragement and invitation, which is why I ended up there first. It was a very thought-provoking chat.
To me GG seems a fractured movement not unlike OWS or the Tea Party. Because there is no clear leader, there is no clear message. There is instead a variety of messages from a variety of folks, some of whom speak louder than others. It is a surprisingly (to me) diverse group of people with an array of demands/requests, and I can't call it a cohesive movement.
The whole "10x programmer" thing is based on a tiny, unscientific study from the 60s that was never replicated.
The best we've been able to say since then (this one comes from Peopleware 2nd Ed.) is that your best programmers are probably 10x your worst programmers, but only 2.5x the median.
It's funny because pundits still point at the research cited in Peopleware as a confirmation of the 10x myth, but by the same measure, if you're sitting comfortably at the median, you're already a 4x developer.
It also seems to be about ensuring that critical coverage of games is done by people who like the game in question and will only discuss the mechanics of the game; content is right out. See: https://medium.com/@CriticalKelly/dear-gaming-journalists-why-im-still-here-c5f4ce3fa871
It was in a less stupid way, but unfortunately, Hillary said basically the same thing (other than asking Bill Gates to do it rofl). >“We’re going to have to have more support from our friends in the technology world to deny online space. Just as we have to destroy [ISIS’s] would-be caliphate, we have to deny them online space,” she said.
>“And this is complicated. You’re going to hear all of the usual complaints, you know, freedom of speech, et cetera. But if we truly are in a war against terrorism and we are truly looking for ways to shut off their funding, shut off the flow of foreign fighters, then we’ve got to shut off their means of communicating. It’s more complicated with some of what they do on encrypted apps, and I’m well aware of that, and that requires even more thinking about how to do it.”
Fun fact: Whoever wrote this article was dumb enough to first post it on Medium under an actual Harvard Assistant Professor's name with an associated twitter account listing them as such in the bio. There was also a tweet from that account to @moldybars (gamergate.me editor) or the other way around but I'm not sure I archived it and everything's deleted now.
Someone else around here followed up on it and confirmed it was all nonsense but not much else came of it because, let's be honest, this isn't really worth the time of anyone at Harvard.
https://medium.com/@poopsockholmes/the-bad-apples-of-gamergate-ba39f8fd485 it's amusing Fart is still a hero to them despite his notorious harassment, but bonus, tons of evidence
I can't be bothered to retrieve Milo attacking MIC or Butts atm
Ralph regularly attacks people, is Sarah and why TMS didn't do anything about her when she never wrote for them (trust no verify)
Wu is a transwoman from a Denny's lawsuit, then John Flynt, both based on flimsy evidence
Freddy Wheels says Zoe lied and harassed herself on wizardchan, but as far as decent folk are concerned he's lying since he never proved it
RogueStar regularly tweeted how Anita, Zoe, etc "is a cunt"
I covered the (visual-only) form of this here: https://medium.com/@lastres0rt/gamergate-fails-at-design-on-purpose-6a37396dac8c
TL;DR: They're violating so many rules of design that the only logical conclusion is that they're actively trying NOT to follow them, because "designing" stuff is for ~~liberals~~ SJW's.
Mmm...stormfront's traffic is actually down in the second half of this year:
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/stormfront.org
Web searches for stormfront are on an 8 year decline:
http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=stormfront.org&cmpt=q&tz=
So...no, stormfront isn't doing all that great. Maybe they're doing some desperate recruiting, though, and that's why you're seeing them more?
If you're like me, and you're far too slow to crank out any sort of game in that time, may I recommend the Jam Fists Into Nazi Faces, which will be running for the next four years.
I reckon I'll be able to submit something in that time!
They actually went crying to 8Chan. They downvoted me, the horror!
Ghazi has been compromised. Abort! Abort!
Oh, and I don't know who ttreats is, but they're engaging Alison Tieman (typhonblue) and making some great points. https://archive.is/V8vl2
And one more thing. Loser pays in Canada. So what they're raising money for is a mystery if they really think they have a case.
I'm sure gaters will seize on this as an example of SJWs supporting "no bad tactics, only bad targets" (even though no one ever actually said that), but I do sometimes struggle with defining the difference between things like the Montgomery bus boycott or the "Don't buy where you can't work" campaigns and the kinds of things that GG does. I think the blockade aspect to their ops is one interesting way to look at it.
Ultimately, for me, one of the key differences is that both of those civil rights campaigns were (a) actual boycotts, not blockades, and (b) targeted actions that were immoral and discriminatory. They didn't focus on what people thought, but on what they did.
What GG is doing is exactly what they accuse SJWs of -- trying to punish wrong-think.
If I may add, this is what frustrates me in the free software/open-source groups.
The people within those tech circles are not those interested in others using it to escape persecution, not saying that there aren't, but rather engage in it without repercussions. They are pretty big on "free speech" and mistake moderation as Orwellian-like censorship, so of course no users who aren't white and cishet will be the majority of users to benefit from it.
For example: https://www.minds.com/discovery/trending/channels
That article was kind of awful. It felt like the author was trying to create a problem where none existed, and by throwing around words like "elite tastemakers" would somehow get adjacent to an actual point. Yes, Hamilton is difficult to get tickets for, but anybody with an Amazon Prime account or 19 dollars can go listen to the soundtrack right now. And it does whitewash history somewhat, but you are allowed to relax once in a while.
This short article "Dogs and Smurfs" talks a little about one of the more subtle, insidious forms of sexism; treating femaleness like a deviation from the norm. I also remember reading an article by an anonymous would-be children's book writer that was flat-out told by an editor "if the character isn't a sister, daughter, niece, mother, aunt, or significant other, make her male".
Chell is nice because she's allowed to be the player surrogate, the universal vessel of all our experiences, while also being a Hispanic woman. A big part of acceptance of any group is seeing them as normal human beings and that we can relate to them despite being different in some ways. That's why hate groups have such huge outrage at the most mundane portrayals; because they're mundane.
Another game I think is good progress on that front is Ittle Dew, which, outside of one throwaway line you can easily miss that I'm not sure how to feel about, makes absolutely nothing out of her being a girl. A lesser developer would have had the companion character make jabs at her for being a tomboy, but nope.
Yep, main character representation is important -especially- for kids. This is why games made for 5-10 year olds were some of the first to have diverse race options 30 years ago. This game is from 1987.
Really. Really Really. Someone did a video examining T-f00t's shift to anti-Feminism and how it affected his Patreon. They appear to have a positive-feedback-loop relationship with each other, sadly.
Ugh, GOG. This is way too many strikes from them--just sent in a request to delete my account.
I should have cut over to itch.io long ago, at least this gets my butt in gear on that.
Of all the sites in GamerGate's boycott list, only Vice uses Alexa's Certified Site Metrics. Not even Amazon does, and it's the parent company of Alexa.
This is your friendly reminder that Alexa rankings are horseshit. But, never fear! You can help fix that by installing the Alexa Toolbar™.
Bonus: it does absolutely nothing meaningful and has no useful features at all, it really just reports back to Alexa the domain of every URL you click on. Neat!
> Gamasutra, whose Alexa ranking has tanked
True, but when you look at the graph, you can see that it was freefalling all through August until the "Gamers are over" articles came out.
http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/gamasutra.com
(Also keep in mine Alexa ratings are not total page views, but comparisons to other web site traffic.)
Anonymous has supposedly hacked Daily Stormer. ~~Yes, that link goes to them, the only time I'm willing~~ No clicks for the Nazis, found a different source for the news.
Whether these two things are related (i.e. they faked it or not) I don't know.
But good on GoDaddy, not a fan of them but at least they did something right this time.
edit: Some infosec folks are not convinced of the "hack".
> This project will see fruition, and it will be a palpable blow against the Social Justice movement.
But is it going to be a serious work of investigative journalism?
I remember about a decade ago I had a friend who was one of those weird serial killer fascination girls. Which like, I get it a little. I like watching documentaries on cults and narrations of creepypasta on the treadmill. But she tracked down like a fan comic on Jeffrey Dahmer, My friend Dahmer, which took it to a whole new level of wtf for me.

Like, learning about serial killers is I think sort of a sick curiousity. Trying to make them sympathetic or like, stanning them is where it gets weird.
I know that too many Americans shower everyday with soap, which is bad for your skin, and should only be done if really necessary (like you are working out every day). The overshowering issue was caused by soap marketing. See Soft Soap, Hard Sell: American Hygiene in the Age of Advertisement for a full history.
Also they tend to be completely blind to how much the emotional parts of the brain can hijack the rational parts and force the thinking mind to come up with garbage reasoning to support emotional goals without realizing it's doing so. Google "choice blindness" and the studies done on people who have a "split brain" due to epilepsy surgery; the human brain is GREAT at making up total BS to "explain" itself without the supposedly rational parts being aware of it. (A couple good books on the topic are Dan Ariely's "Predictably Irrational" and Robert Kurzban's "Why Everyone (Else) Is A Hypocrite", if you're interested in the science behind all this.)
/r/Feminism is fairly notorious for its most active mod being a dude who thinks misandry is a legitimate issue and SRS is too extreme, and for just generally being a place where stuff gets derailed all the time.
If you're actually interested in the internal politics of a subreddit you don't use, here's a fairly comprehensive post on the issues people had with it as of like two years ago. (Archive link because the site seems to be down, not because I'm protesting it or anything.)
If you don't care, then continue to go about your life. It's not a big issue like hosting creepshots or anything like that, and it's not like the mod was also modding, say, any of the subs the KiA mods also mod; it's just that feminists have by and large concluded that /r/Feminism is not a useful place to discuss feminism.
As far as I can tell "red pill" in the McIntosh site is being used in the Matrix sense, not the MRA sense:
Am I missing something here? Or is it the gators? Hmm..
Gators are pissssssed
And here's the classic, "this is good for gamergate"
this just reminded me of you're 16. you're a pedophile. you don't want to hurt anyone. what do you do now? on medium.
EDIT: standard warnings apply, by the way. there's some description of graphic material, much like in olson's piece, but worse :c
If this is accurate (from the original article, not the one you quoted):
> Adria replied that she was happy to hear that Hank “wasn’t active in driving their interests to mount the raid attack”, but that she held him responsible for it anyway. It was “his own actions that resulted in his own firing, yet he framed it in a way to blame me… If I had a spouse and two kids to support, I certainly would not be telling ‘jokes’ like he was doing at a conference. Oh, but wait, I have compassion, empathy, morals and ethics to guide my daily life choices. I often wonder how people like Hank make it through life seemingly unaware of how ‘the other’ lives in the same world he does, but with countless fewer opportunities.”
It gives me great pause to support Adria. She can't have it both ways. She can't blame Hank for her actions as well as his own. It's her playing the victim card all the way and not taking an responsibility for her own actions.
Also, for anyone that calls themselves a developer, "forking a repo" should be something they would see as non-sexual. Yes, it's a double entendre, but it's a weak one. It is pretty clear she doesn't know what "forking a repo" means and made assumptions, ones she is unwilling to admit.
Lastly, it's interesting to read the HN post and comments:
Archive.today link, because urgh: https://archive.is/mqYBf
No, really. Urgh. Uuuurgh. Uuuuurgrhrghrgruurgh. I mean, I can't actually throw up in my mouth over the internet, but if I could UHUGHGRFUJGFSDUFGDSLGK.
(Edit) Okay fine, I'll contribute something constructive instead of just typing disgust noises whilst projectile vomiting in a 360 degree arc.
Day's new "what gamergate is totes about" quote is as follows:
What GamerGate is fundamentally about is the right of people to design, develop and play games that they want to design, develop and play.
So in short, GamerGate is about the right of people to do what they have been doing for years and are continuing to do and are in no threat of ever stopping doing short of being doxed, swatted and driven out of the industry by a horde of misogynist trolls- OH WAIT.
>Weird thing though. I never thought those two any any chemistry together.
Don't say that. Just look at them - they were such a cute couple.

Seriously, I don't understand how Patreon is some controversial thing, it's right in the name; Patreon. As in patron of the arts. You know, that oldest and most traditional method that artists supported themselves? Only crowdsourced instead of coming from a single rich patron?
I mean, I think Matt Lees' setup is quite nice, he has a very clear goal of "okay, the ad revenue model is all well and good, except no, not really because it directly discourages you from making niche videos, and there's always the looming spectre of Content ID. So instead, I'm going to make patreon my main source of income for my youtube content and do away with ads altogether. Let's see if this is a viable plan."
And so far it's working out fairly well
Sowing some sweet discord here in IRC before kicking oxymuncha: https://pastebin.com/Uczp9FfY
The mod fallout in KiA is fun, oxymuncha is not trying to smooth over the cracks at all.
https://www.4chan.org/rules lists the general rules and the rules specific to each board. The boards that have civility rules have blue backgrounds when you visit them, while the more "hive of scum and villany" boards have an orange one. Still, no 4chan board is as civil as say, this subreddit, but the blue boards are better than shitlord subreddits like redpill, or greatapes, or KiA.
Some else pointed it out up there: (http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/escapistmagazine.com)
I truly didn't know how bad it was.
Edit: Holy hell... 33% of the visitors go there because of Zero Punctuation, the whole site will crash and burn the second Yahtzee goes somewhere else.
He seems to be reverting his stance a tad judging by his Twitter. The cynic in me thinks it's because of this:
> If you're suggesting that GG discourages dissent and discussion, I don't think that's true.
I'm stating, as fact, that GG wants to silence voices they disapprove of. Like Leigh Alexander's.
And the method they've chosen to do so - in the name of "journalistic ethics" - is to smile sweetly at advertisers and ask them to exert control over editorial. GG is literally using Gerstmanngate as a glowing example of their desires, not as an example of the worst of video game journalism corruption.
Operation Disrespectful Nod proves, conclusively, that GG is about ideology not ethical journalism.
Don't read the comments. Ugh. I do notice that none of the gators have commented on:
>The relationship was doomed, but they slept together one last time. Quinn says that’s when Gjoni turned violent. Scared and unsure what to do after Gjoni left, she called her friend Bill Zoeker, a video producer, and asked him to rush over. “I could clearly see bruises on her arm, and suddenly the whole situation became very real to me,” he says. Though Gjoni denies the incident, Zoeker says, “I’ve never seen anybody so afraid in my entire life than Zoe in that moment.”
Edit: Oops. Says he denies it right there in the quote. More coffee. Must be Zoe lying again. Yep. /s
Edit2: Apparently only one of the charges against Eron was dropped - https://archive.is/t2W0y
It's funny how there are documented cases of famous white people using the N word and not being hounded to the ends of the earth, because of like... context and intent.
Funny that isn't it? How if you're an obvious shit, and you spout obvious shit, people stop liking you? It's not a fucking conspiracy.
Amazon still carries this book that literally advocates spanking babies with a stick if they won't go to sleep. It's literally been found in the possession of multiple parents who beat their children to death.
Since this whole mess is basically satanic panic 2.0 I will just drop a link to the amazon page for Satan's Silence, which is one of the best works on the original satanic panic, some of the insights from that book may apply to this situation https://www.amazon.com/Satans-Silence-Ritual-Making-American/dp/0595189555/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1514762888&sr=8-1&keywords=satan%27s+silence
I've already got a 24 month NordVPN subscription but that should never be seen as anything other than a temporary solution. We need to get these authoritarian loving thought police trashbags out of our browsers. They've got no business controlling technology in such a way. I hope tech companies tell them to fuck off, for starters. This isn't something they can do without their compliance.
>I think its weak that these 2 guys make a claim but cannot seem to back it up
Here are some claims that Totalbiscuit has made with no evidence to back them up, I guess he is weak as well?
Randi Harper created a industry blacklist and other BS because gaters told him so.
https://medium.com/@SvizraLion/everything-totalbiscuit-got-wrong-in-way-too-many-words-4df407e8113c This Gem
But we don't see Totalbiscuit ever say he was wrong. He doubles down and digs a deeper and deeper hole.
They've been trying to retcon/whitewash this whole thing since very early on. A friend of mine wrote a piece about it here, which I also mention some downthread.
This stat should not be used. It was pretty clearly shown that the Social Monitor thing's user count breaks down after 10k posts or so. The reality for #gamergate is much higher (though the tweets per user ratio is still pretty high, as shown here).
Just a note for those who like my writing, if you wanna follow the stuff on Medium.com, please follow the collection: https://medium.com/plaguearist-does-gamergate
I have to admit I'm not sure what I'm going to write about next with regards to this whole mess, but I'm sure something will come up...
More proof that the mouth pieces of garglegoats are people who aren't gamers, don't play video games and have no interest in the medium beyond it being a vessel for conservative politics.

He promoted thunderf00t??? Damn.
Interesting info I found recently:

> Potential Earnings $192,908
Considering that YouTube is his primary income now this looks like a professional victim to me.
Fair point, but you can find other work other there that's similar:

I'll maybe post something in a few days if I possible.
Worth noting is Hilary Clinton also said a similar thing about "usual complaints about freedom of speech"
Interestingly enough the data from Alexa.com seems to confirm that the audience of Reddit is more diverse than the article would lead you to believe [http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/reddit.com].
I don't necessarily disagree with the premise of the article, but it does seem to be written to rally a particular audience rather than as a serious critique (although I maybe asking too much from The Daily Beast).

How quaint.
>"At this time, London would have included a whole host of people of color throughout the street."
Speaking of which, I noticed an interesting thing. The game is set in 1868, the year Karl Marx's second daughter Laura married Paul Lafargue, a Cuban-French socialist who considered himself black.
I love it. I disagree quite often which is great, it's game criticism that makes me think.
I haven't actually ever used Patreon, but this Errant Signal and Every Frame a Painting are going to be my first.
Jim alluded to the problems when he left the Escapist and set up his Patreon.
>I've always considered myself fortunate enough to maintain a lot of distance between myself as a content creator and the marketing departments cutting their brand deals. I'm afraid that the distance, however, is getting smaller and smaller, regardless of my efforts. There are media powerhouses out there that are struggling, and their struggle is leading to changes in business that I am not comfortable with. I don't want to be under the shadow of corporate entities, and I don't want to feel my criticism of the games industry exists by their good grace.
Ian Danskin later talked about the problems at the Escapist as well. Basically, the issue is that corporate interests are dictating editorial decisions.
> Everyone assumes they're the badass, it's just stupid SOCIETY holding them back... a lot of this is curdled entitlement.
Just read the synopsis of one of the authors books on Amazon, and uh, yikes
From the article, and a key point for those that don't get caught up in tribalistic screaming because the article sort-of kind-of criticizes Pokemon Go:
"We don’t have to speculate about what Silicon Valley’s ideology is, it is enough to read Peter Thiel’s Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future. Thiel, part of the so-called “Paypal mafia” and owner of Palantir, explicitly says that “competition is a relic of history” and that monopoly capitalism is not a pathology or an exception, but the condition of every successful business. Google is one of the best examples: almost all of Google’s “innovations” are a product of acquisition (from Google Maps to Youtube)."
Oh, yeah, they can be pretty hypocritical. They tend to spin everything to make sure they look good and their enemies look bad, and they'll go to some absurd lengths for it.
Dan Olsen's expose on child porn on 8 chan is perhaps the best example of this.
GG consistently responded in two ways to that:
1) None of the content on 8 chan is illegal, and trying to shut the pedo boards down would violate free speech.
2) Olsen was distributing illegal porn by downloading and censoring the images in his expose.
They'd often make both of these claims in one post.
Hate to break your bubble, but that page has been around at least a few months before GG. Ye olde Wayback Machine has a copy of it from April that's the exact same wording: https://web.archive.org/web/20140423232719/http://www.polygon.com/pages/about-opinions
The CEO is now claiming that she was 'misinterpreted', that the app is a 'positivity app', and that it will apparently not allow any negative reviews: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/julia-cordray-ceo-peeple-creating-worlds-largest-app-julia-cordray
It'd be hard to pull together a summary of what's wrong with GamerGate impromptu like this, but check out RationalWiki's description. Actually, even better, check out this wordy Medium article outlining their structure and MOs.
GamerGate doesn't "have the right idea." GamerGate was organized as a harassment campaign against an indie dev. "Ethics in Journalism" was a smokescreen that members of that group invented as a smokescreen to help legitimize their movement and attract new boosters. The movement consists of a chan hate group and the rubes they've fooled. It is openly an anti-feminist campaign, and the majority of feeble stabs it's taken at improving "ethics" have relied on unethical means, and were they successful (they have not had any meaningful successes to date) would leave the field of gaming Journalism less ethical than when they found it.
They are against inclusion. They are against feminism. They are against empathy. They've organized multiple campaigns to try and drive trans* people to suicide (both individuals, and this week they attempted to jam a suicide prevention hotline for this goal).
No one picks on GamerGate because they're "pro corruption" or "anti ethics" or even "anti-gamer" as they like to say. We're against hate groups.
@cainejw? He wrote a series of really terrible critiques of St. Anita's videos. This is the first one: https://medium.com/@cainejw/dishonesty-feminist-frequency-part-1-fe937f6a791e
Does this person know they can get off the GG blocklist? All they have to do is go to the blocklist and ask to be removed. If their Twitter feed isn't terrible, they'll be taken off.
They aren't silenced by some people not listening to them, but if they aren't a jerk and really want to reach out to those people on Twitter, they can get off the list.

His reply to the person calling him out is priceless:
'You have barely 80 games on steam while I have over 450 with an acc worth of over $5200 (feel free to check https://steamdb.info). I use 4 different platforms, GoG, developer sites (like SquareEnix, Telltale,...), Origin, etc. You clearly have no right to talk here. '
