>Were you in other bands
Yeah basically my whole adolescence. I could make it a very long story but basically I had had enough of bands and started doing simple instrumental stuff which evolved into Cloudkicker over the course of two or three years.
>do you still do other things aside from Cloudkicker?
No, Cloudkicker is enough for me right now.
Thanks so much ! Um, it's going to be different for each member of the band, but personally I like to draw inspiration from political and social events and other bands. As artists I would say: This will destroy you, Fourteen nights at sea, My bloody valentine, Jakob, Max Richter, GY!BE, A winged victory for the sullen, henryk Gorecki, The Tallest man on earth, Sufjan stevens, and there are many others... TWDY's Tunnel Blanket and GY!BE's Lift your skinny fists... are really my favourite albums!

it even predates its appearance on the vinyl "yanqui uxo" by a year. they would play it over the P.A. during the encore breaks at a lot of the fall 2001 and spring 2002 shows. you can hear an example of it here between 'motherfucker=redeemer' and 'gathering storm'.
I use bandcamp! Shameless plug for my band Vidrios . Anyway, I really like it. The audio quality is good, the integration to facebook is ultra streamlined, the servers are quick so I can skip around and the songs load quickly. The iphone app is good too.
What I'd like to see: greater ease adjusting the music, for one. Forcing the page to load the tracks in a specific way seems silly. Yeah you can make "sets" but that seems more roundabout than just adjusting the original home page. Also the look of the pages is a bit bland. Keep the audio widget the same, but allow some html or at least provide color scheme options would make it a more customizable client. Also a button that directly takes you to your settings at the top would be good. Every time I log in to edit something I forget where i have to click.
A really cool addition would be video integration! Not hosting of course, that would be a pain, but if there was a tab where you could stack youtube links for music videos, it would super augment traffic I'm certain of it. I'll post more as I think of them, and I'll ask my band too! Your service is awesome.
i couldn't either. i remember emailing tunturia and asking them "i cant find your debut anywhere to buy it, could you point me in the right direction, or should i just find it on the internet" and they replied saying "if you want the CD send us $12 in paypal to some address, or if you dont want to do that, we're perfectly cool with you downloading it for free online". it was months ago so i don't have the link, but try this: http://www.filefactory.com/file/b0aga68/
Just saw them on Friday and yes, it was an amazing show. One recommendation though - get there early enough to be right at the stage, preferably to the right side where Munaf plays, so you can see him do the following with a tambourine when they play "The Moon Is Down". I got there late and the line was already around the block, so my view kinda sucked (but the music made up for it!)
Have fun!
Sorry Danny, this post was caught in the spam filter and I didn't see it until now.
Damn nice though, I'm especially enjoying Something about a pond or marsh right now. :)
Keep your opinions to yourself from NH just released their first album and shot a video for the first track off the album. You can watch it here : https://vimeo.com/38731033 or you can stream the entire album here : kyoty.bandcamp.com
Loud and proud
Palmless Prayer/Mass Murder Refrain, a collaboration with World's End Girlfriend, is one of the best albums in the Post-Rock genre.
I'm a drummer, but the band I loved being in is in hiatus indefinitely seeing as we're all at university in different places. So for now I make music on my own: https://soundcloud.com/polofish
Me and my housemates are starting a band after christmas, and we all like post-rock so fingers crossed it goes well :]
>It'll be distributed for free online as well as with mail-order releases.
As a free, added bonus, who wouldn't want this? If someone if taking the time to order an album, chances are they're the type of person who would love to have this in their hands, flipping through it.
Add a link bundle through Bitly with their website/social media, video or stand out live performance...
BTW, thanks for everything you do at http://futurerecordings.bandcamp.com - much love!
It looks like Amazon (in the US) has the mp3 version for about $6 USD.
I'm sure iTunes has it, too, but I don't have it installed on this computer so I can't check at the moment.
Wow, that would be awesome! I think PhotoScan app by google is the easiest and the best choice, it is available on Android as well
You can use the tool on https://ifttt.com/home. You can program a rule, with a response to events. Here, it's "If New post in subreddit r/postrock - Then Add track to a Spotify playlist". It's mainly used for home automation but there are plenty of usable services.
this album name is a reference to the title of a book on the soviet union but I do agree it's a very evocative turn of phrase :)
I was a fan of this band back in 2005, seen them live a few times at small local bars. They then became Lanterns On The Lake, who just recently supported Explosions In The Sky on their UK tour.
Very nice music - https://soundcloud.com/lanternsonthelake
I have more Greenspace songs if anyone would like to hear more. I couldn't find most of their stuff anywhere on the net.
The quality is pretty awful, but I've still fallen in love with this shitty recording of the new (as of yet unreleased) track from Sigur Rós, Á. It's not really type of song I was hoping for, I was hoping for more dark, fucked up songs like Óveður, but it's really hard to deny that Á is a brilliantly uplifting song, and I can't wait for an upcoming album to be announced.
Here's a list of the top rated Post Rock albums since 2010, which is a pretty good starting point. I really reccomend the three Swans albums on this list, espically The Seer and To Be Kind. Also, it's not on this list, but Deafheaven's Sunbather is an excellent black metal album with major post rock influences.
Nah, it's all good, I hope no one ever gets downvoted because they disagree with a mod, that'd suck. Poobicus does make a good point, Beacons definitely feels more metal, but then again we have plenty of post-metal, prog, math, ambient being posted here as well. Hopefully that's a good thing, and allows people to experience a wider gamut of music.
@Poobicus - definitely check out his earlier stuff under "B.M. Sharp" which is excellent as well - https://sites.google.com/site/benthesharp/downloadallthismusic!
Follow this page on Facebook. The guy interacts with a lot of bands and sometimes gets the members to come on the page and answer questions.
I don't think /r/askreddit would be interested, and it might be difficult to get a band to post in this subreddit, however, it depends on the questions, but a few of us have solo projects that often do post-rock, and I personally wouldn't mind answering a few.
SongKick. You select cities to which you would travel for a concert and select bands in which you're interested. A good portion of the events are user submitted though. Some venues and bands will post their listings, but it isn't particularly thorough.
I signed up for Twitter just so I could track a number of bands.
You are right, btw. Sigur Ros are back together to release an album this spring. A world tour was mentioned, but no dates / locations yet. Don't worry, I'm sure a number of Reddits will be lit up when it is announced.
I just took couple of screenshots how it looks now and one of those is taken on a mobile device and seems to work quite ok there too. It already has the basic functionality such registering users, creating threads and posting answers to them.
FWIW, from a recent Instagram post they made:
"we're shipping out vinyls this week and next. You interested in one? We have a couple left due to cancelations that we'll put up in our webstore soon ☺"
And what a tune it is. Is their guitar tab for Old Poisons? Was trying to figure out what the hammer on with pink from chord is on the 5th fret. 102 on https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p05prr4d/the-quay-sessions-mogwai-full-set
well, here's a live version they did with matana. i'm guessing it will be similar to this. i'm a big fan of the song so i love it, but if you didn't really dig it to begin with i'm not sure if this new version you'll like any better. regardless, new zion is always good and this year will be amazing for that.
I stumbled across this archive of The Silent Ballet's first compilation and it brought back a wave of memories of when I first started listening to postrock. It really helped shape my taste in music.
Thankfully it's all released under Creative Commons (as I understand) so there are still plenty of torrents to be found.
Here’s a cool track from the depths of obscurity, just over a dozen views on YouTube. I like the fittingly metallic edge and overall darkness in the closing third of the song. The whole EP is just 99 cents on eMusic, on the consistently interesting and experimental Driftless Records: https://www.emusic.com/album/197903972 & much of his discography is free on Bandcamp (though judging from the rest of the Nahoko EP, he might be more electronic than post-rock as a whole). https://andrewabboushi.bandcamp.com/music
he is going for drums, but might switch to composition depending on how things go. if you liked it check out this stuff too! he wrote these songs a few years ago
I asked the band, and they said at the moment they have no way of online distribution besides iTunes, unfortunately.
Here are their other songs: http://www.reverbnation.com/underthebigbrightyellowsunband
The whole album is amazing. Pandora tends to play "I" as "The Ghosts of the Stumps"; either way that track is mind blowing. Only streaming one I could find is on their myspace. I didn't know people still used that...
Here's a site that lets you search for an artist and select a genre it then uses a vertical / horizontal layout to compare the style of other artists. Find the artist on the page, the style comparison is as follows (copied from the description on the page itself):
> down is more organic, up is more mechanical and electric; left is denser and more atmospheric, right is spikier and bouncier.
This link goes straight to instrumental post-rock but if you go back to the home page you can search for any band and select a genre. If you have spotify this site links straight to playlists for your current genre at the top of the page.
You can use Spotify, Pandora or whatever no matter where you are on the planet if you use some browser plug-ins like MediaHint or Hola Unblocker to mask your location. That's how I browse these sites normally from Brazil, maybe it'll help ya
I'd advise against posting on ATPR. They don't take nicely to new members, and the amount of new material is pretty low.
I prefer: https://www.facebook.com/postrock.instrumental
The dude who runs this page is AWESOME. New bands every day, live chats with band members every now and then, and he even managed to get the guitarist from Her Name is Calla to do a live show over UStream for the community. I've been turned on to tons of bands thanks to this dude.
Maybe I did it wrongly, but I did try to use NordVPN to see whether it solved this problem. It worked for Netflix, but for Spotify, it did not work at all. I did some research, and it seems that Spotify is very strict with the country-setting changes. The only way is to use a credit card that was made from the country which I want to change in my settings, which is pretty impossible unless I move there.
You may be able to use a VPN to get around this region restriction. (Granted, VPNs cost money) -- it would allow you to appear as though you are not in Singapore.
Both of the following VPNs are quite cheap:
Also they are useful for Netflix and other region-restricted sites.
I've got both the 1280Ts like OP, and the slightly more expensive (depending on sales, etc) 1700s. Would definitely recommend the upgrade to 1700, depending on your setup. They've got an upwards angle that might not be optimal for every placement.
You can change the angle somewhat with isolation pads that can be angled. Definitely recommend the isolation pads for the 1280Ts, as the 1280Ts turn whatever surface they are on into a bass reflector otherwise.
I've only used their powered speakers as PC speakers / Chromecast Audio streaming, which they are great for. Use passive P17s for vinyl, and still prefer the 1700 over either of the others.
Not aware of any free sources, I just bought it on Amazon. Well worth the $10 or so.
Learning notes on the neck, scales. This book teaches a good system for learning the notes in the start, the CAGED system:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1480170496/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I'm currently working through it.
Its funny, I actually just bought these off the recommendation from a friend for an upcoming MONO concert I might go to as well, also based on reports that their concerts get crazy loud.
These did the trick at a Russian Circles show in Raleigh... gave the second pair to a kid there shooting photos, like "trust me ya gotta protect ya shit if you do a lot of this..." :)
I was just looking for ear plugs on Amazon Germany and found those. Same product, only with a Zildjian logo lol https://www.amazon.de/Zildjian-HD-EarPlugs-Paar-Light/dp/B013HS22F2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1492794705&sr=8-1&keywords=hd+earplugs
