Reposting a comment I made in /r/news as I'm sure it will get deleted:
I have the Scanner Radio app on my phone to alert me when a scanner reaches a certain threshold. Usually when I get an alert, it means some serious shit is going down (it's how I first heard about the UCLA shooting and Fort McMurray fires). Then I come to reddit where there's usually multiple news threads and a live thread on the front page.
But not today. I came to reddit after my Scanner app alerted me about Orlando. Didn't see a single post on the front page related to Orlando and figured it must've not been anything serious.
Imagine my surprise when I finally decided to check /r/all and saw all the /r/The_Donald posts...
Edit: People are asking what app I use. It's Scanner Radio.
TPP is there to destroy the Constitution and U.S. politics. It screws over the American voter and rewards greedy corporations. Just read what has been leaked about it on WikiLeaks.

Added later: TPP screws over people in any place that enacts it. Not just Americans.

reddit is dying the way of digg. Rampant censorship among so many subs is the culprit. Look at /r/longtail (pretty much like undelete) and you will see how many different subs deleted the newest Snowden documents that reveal how manipulation of the internet is carried out.
I recommend http://hubski.com/ for news. Pretty much like reddit was way back when.

All of what you just said there is false. Let me break it down.

The formatting is different on the web archive, but you can clearly see in the sidebar a section for that says "submit nsa/prism/snowden article" and if you hover over the text, you'll see that it re-directs to the /r/inthenews submission form.
You'll also note that you're listed as a moderator. This is because you were added to the /r/news moderation team on June 14, 2013, 31 days before the screenshot in question.

Did you actually read the document? The document is even more explicit than the article and actually is more apparently worse than the article has portrayed.

SOPA/PIPA blackouts have shown that caring about what reddit thinks and knows/is aware of is key to win with the corrupted PTB.

There's a really cool system called Freenet that's designed precisely to deal with these sorts of things. The problem is that it hasn't yet reached the point where the technical hurdles are low enough that your fairly average computer user can get it running and find what they want.

>Okay, I know, I know. Why on earth would I use bing? Well it's rather simple, for some reason Bing will simply pull videos from any site on the internet without redirecting you and allow you to view the videos within their search engine. This seems rather logical and like a rather simple thing and I don't see why Google doesn't do this seeing as it does this when searching for pictures. However Google does not do this with video, it only does this for pictures. Thus Bing is better for searching for porn videos, because it allows you to intuitively search for and view porn quickly and easily without any of the pesky ads, view limitations, or countless searching. Whereas google may help you find it, but they redirect you. I've included a link to an imgur upload of a Google search and a Bing search for your convenience as well as a link to a simple porn search on bing below. OBVIOUSLY NSFW. I can't repeat this enough the links are NSFW. > >Imgur Upload Example NSFW! > >Bing Search Example NSFW!!!!!

Every single news article that has sources outside of the writer him/herself is going to include bias based on who's interviewed, what's included from that interview, and what's left out. It's also going to be biased on account of who the writer neglects to interview in the first place.
In fact, the writer's personal opinion/analysis is ALWAYS injected into the piece on the basis of these factors unless the article in its entirety is something like: "Some TiSA docments were released today."
The rule that you have, as you apply it, would allow the shoddy NYT "journalism" that served as a mouthpiece for the White House in the lead-up to the War in Iraq (remember, the articles "citing" experts who said that there were WMDs in Iraq) whereas a leak of the military intelligence itself (analyzing the threat of WMDs--which indicated that there were none) would not.
Would your team allow the following link, with the title "TiSA - Trade in Services Agreement - Core Text"
https://wikileaks.org/tisa/core/page-1.html
And, if so, would you refrain from downvoting it en mass immediately like several of the moderators on your team did with my response to /u/krispykrackers yesterday and this submission earlier today?
This happened before. Something about toolbox saving changes with the wrong permission. So this might not be intentional .
Just a though but /r/technology's automoderator shows that they shadow ban individuals for being "opinion trolls" e.g. /u/feminist and /u/EmpathyMan . They also using "Slur reporter" to remove comments.
Isn't this style of moderation an indication of subredditcancer ? Given the current witchhunts, this may be a reason to keep it private.
Well, using internet archive, here's a quote from /r/undelete description:
>This subreddit keeps track of submissions that "magically disappear" from the top 100 in /r/all.
Besides, please, enlighten me: why would you create a sub that keeps track of removed content if not to combat censorship in a away?
Perhaps it's time to go back to metafilter and only use reddit for very specific interests. Maybe some of my problems with reddit could have been avoided if they charged a one-time $5 to make an account.
I like to quote Dave Ramsey and say people have too much month left at the end of their money. I can testify that even with little money everyone that can and will budget and then stick to it will be far better off in very little time. Most people have more money than they realize. They just don't have a clue where it's going because they don't even attempt to track it. I think the biggest reason is because of the emotional toll and the overwhelming fear that comes with facing ones debts and lack of self discipline.
In a way, a very big way, what this jackass is saying is very true. But no one deserves to be treated or viewed the way he is viewing them, as inhuman scum suffering only because of their own evil deeds. Everyone that's in that position needs and deserves empathy and a guideline or a blueprint to help them learn to help themselves. Because the fact is that our society has embedded the idea into most Americans that we can and should all spend more than we make, that debt is the only way to live, that financing the future is the way to a prosperous life. These signals and messages could not possibly be further from the truth.
If anyone here reading this needs help financially, please go spend the ten or twenty bucks on the book Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey. It'll change your life!
The Guardian isn't explicitly called out but it would seem to fall into the category of "not the most reliable."

> Don't be an idiot, you know people aren't spamming wikileaks
I have just as much evidence that people were spamming wikileaks articles as you have that the mods just want to censor wikileaks.
>I've already made that clear. They censor domains.[2] Clearly Wikileaks is one of the one's they use automod to removed.
I never said they didn't filter domains. I know they do. They stated they do. They engaged with the community about it.
>Here's[3] a backup of the head mod over there getting torn a new one by the community when he first tried to introduce the list of banned domains. Somehow I know you'll say it's not proof or something. Really it's just kind of sad.
That's an interesting use of "torn a new one". People didn't like it, they gave reasonable answers as to why, and mods accepted that and removed it. Why didn't you post the one with the response? This doesn't come across as some outrageous idea, just not well executed for sure.
I'm sorry to disappoint you with my need for facts before accusing people of being corrupt. I know showing evidence isn't your strong suit.
So how about that "automod" removal that you never reapproved and then ignore all questions about.
Yeah, Reddit is 28th most popular website in the world/10th most popular in the USA right now. It's unbelievable, I remember times when it was barely top 100...
vitriolic comments on linked threads is also brigading and can lead to a shadowban.
Evidence of brigading is that the /r/bestof thread has been removed and only accessible through the /r/undelete links.

It's important not to conflate what is truth with what you would like to see on your subreddit according to your rule: it's apparent to me you have little idea how to judge the technical veracity of the claim, you're focusing on the semantics, which I can possibly understand and sympathize with, but not if you extend this into pretending to know the verisimilitude of the claim, even beyond this paper alone.

>This happened last weekend, my parents were out of town and I was reading this AskReddit thread when I got to this comment. I realized I had one of these in my house but haven't used it for years. So I went upstairs, got out the 1990's version of this contraption, strapped myself in, and started to recline. The thing flipped me over pretty fast and locked in place, completely vertical. At first it felt really good, my lower back cracked in places it hadn't before, but since I was completely upside down, blood started to rush to my head quickly and soon it was time to flip back up. This is when I realized that I didn't know how to come back up, I was seriously locked in place upside down, hanging by my ankles. I struggled for a few minutes trying different ways to escape this contraption, but I couldn't do it. Then I started to panic, I'm thinking to myself how my embarrassing its gonna be when I die this way. Eventually after hanging upside down for a way too long, I decide enough is enough. I sat up, so I could reach my feet and yanked on the little spring loaded knob that was holding my feet in place. It popped open and I fell onto the hardwood floor, with all my weight, on my neck. Now my neck is fucked up, but at least I didn't die taking advice from Reddit. > >TLDR: I tried to stretch out my back and ended up destroying my neck.

So here is a good example for you.
Notice how the /r/technology mod is caught bullshiting about their subreddits transparency. Notice how there is no reply to the clear facts. Notice how a friend (who is usually unapologetic for mods) jumps in there to defend and downplay the very clear mod abuse and lack of transparency. I suggest people watch such users closely if they want to see how manipulative some mods and their friends can be on this subreddit. I don't think these manipulators are mocking the idea of mod abuse. However, I think they are turning the idea of mod abuse and censorship into a joke by constantly trolling under that banner.

The shit heads have never been content to stay in their own little box on Reddit. They tend to crawl out and drag down the site at large. Time and again I’ve seen an awful comment and checked its author’s user page to try and figure out if its sarcasm, only to discover a terrible sub that I never imagined I would find.
I don’t think there’s any easy answer to the problem. Metafilter has been online longer than Reddit and it has kept its consistent high quality over the years through heavy modding. But the result is a site with an ivory tower vibe and an elitist tone. I still go there from time to time but, all in all, I prefer Reddit with all its warts and bruises.

The TPP is an expansive trade agreement. Only one of it's chapters, the one related to copy right that was leaked onto Wikileaks, is appropriate to make posts about in /r/technology. The other articles he's linked to don't make any sense in /r/technology, but the one I pointed to (the one I knew concerned intellectual property) is right at home there like I knew it would be. That's what I meant when I said, "if you can tie an article on it to technology" then it would be allowed. The link I tried to submit was submitted by another user and approved by another mod just as it should have been.
Hacker News or Hubski seem to be the more obvious solutions, but I've never really been a fan of either. I might eventually if they keep growing, though. Hubski has a lot going for it, but I'm not sure it scales.

Thats only true because terrorism is not a real problem on US soil. There have been a few well publicized attacks, and 9/11, but its still not a regular occurrence.
Toddlers are worse than terrorists.
>That said... 20,000 suicides is a bad bad bad number.
yeah it is, lot of veterans too. the problem is the solution to that doesn't involve banning anything, making a victim as much as it does reaching out and calling someone in a time of need and just being a genuine good person to someone down and out.

Reddit is owned primarily by the large media conglomerate, Advance Publications. They are not in the business of "Buy low. Sell high." They are in the business of delivering content. Furthermore, anyone that would buy Reddit is a direct competitor to Advance.
You may think that Reddit is on the decline but there has been a huge increase in traffic since the bad press and censorship. Just look at Alexa.
It is a small vocal minority that dislike the removal of subs like FPH and Jailbait. I really can't blame Reddit. The bad press and Reddit's response to FPH and Jailbait has everything to do with Reddit becoming mainstream. Reddit's primary goal is attracting new users. You are not going to do that by seemingly supporting hate doxxing and borderline pedophilia.
This current redirect fiasco still has to play out. I really don't care. I doubt the average user does either. Knowing Reddit, the opt-out is likely a bug or something similar. As a company they have been pretty straightforward.
Reddit is a top 10 US site. It is a potential goldmine. Don't look for Reddit selling unless Advance goes bankrupt. They have been around for almost 100 years so I wouldn't count on it.

If you just want a site where you and some like-minded people can communicate, you only need to coordinate a partial migration of 200 to 400 users. This is very doable, and a great example is https://tildes.net/
If you want to spread your ideas widely, the only way to succeed is to pay for astro-turfing. This isn't all that expensive, either.
If you want to organically spread your ideas to a wide audience without paying the gate-keepers, that is a much harder problem to crack.
Personally, I'm in the first category. I've found some great online communities and I'm spending more time out there than on reddit. I don't think I'll be participating with whatever big site replaces reddit. I hope someone figures out how to bring back honest discourse to the masses :(

If you want to read about some interesting fuckery during this period in South America, and other 3rd world countries, read The World Was Going Our Way https://www.amazon.com/World-Was-Going-Our-Way/dp/0465003133 this is the follow up to The SWord and the Shield, another great book.
I have a better suggestion. Read the actual book, "Curveball." It should be common knowledge by now, but Powell knew the evidence was flimsy. That's why he refused to make the UN speech unless CIA director Tenet was sitting right behind him while he did it--Powell wasn't going to be a fall guy.
>Good morning, Reddit! > >This is Burt Rutan here to answer your questions. While I am best known for just those two projects, I am known in aviation circles for an unprecedented list of 45 other research aircraft developed by the two companies I founded and ran over a 43-year career. > >My first company, Rutan Aircraft Factory, also developed 14 other research aircraft and marketed plans for five of them so individuals could build their own personal airplanes. Or, you may, know me because my small team at my second company, Scaled Composites in the Mojave Desert covertly developed an entire Manned Space Program, and flew three of the world’s five manned space flights in 2004. You can read about me at burtrutan.com, or in a new book, How to Make a Spaceship, by Julian Guthrie. "Black Sky”, an award-winning 2004 documentary by Discovery TV described our private, non-Government space program. > >I will be back at 3 pm ET to answer your questions, Ask Me Anything!

That app either doesn't work or is just plain too difficult. I found this file browser and it actually worked so I immediately uninstalled ES bloatware.
