sl in terminal
If you don't have it, standard sudo apt-get install sl, pacman -s sl, or whatever your distro use.
Fun fact - there's couple locomotives included with different parameters, go and discover!
If you are sitting on Windows you can always look at gif.
E: I was proven mistaken, you actually can run it on Windows 10 and it takes like 5 minutes to get it done.
How to get it to run -
10: Settings->update&security -> for developers -> turn developer mode on
20: Control panel ->programs->programs and features ->turn windows features On or Off ->Tick the Windows Subsystems for Linux
30:win+r or win+s -> bash
40: wait till it gets downloaded, create the admin account, get the pc to reset.
now you can start it with 'bash' as before
50: sudo apt-get install sl
60: sl
Have fun.
e2: Also, if you are on Windows Insider Program you can get the SUSE instead of Ubuntu, if you so desire, by downloading OpenSUSE or SLES directly from the store instead of step 30 onwards.
It's my pleasure to finally, after a really long hiatus, the release of TranslucentTB's next version. It adds a couple of things that where long asked for, such as a fluent style option for the taskbar (on build 17134 of Windows) and fixed the ghost UWP apps that dynamic windows saw. (a pretty frequent problem)
It also increases the reliability of dynamic Dtart, and adds two new modes, dynamic Timeline and dynamic Cortana.
You can download it from the store here and read the release notes linked by the post for all the details.
Please close the older build of TranslucentTB before upgrading, as the migration from an event to a mutex to detect single instance causes a name conflict in the kernel object manager if the event is not destroyed before opening a mutex with the same name.
Feel free to drop a message on our Discord or create a GitHub issue if you have any problem.
I think it has potential but it is fairly barebones right now. It is also buggy - I found 3 bugs after playing with it for about 10 minutes.
I like the UI. I'm definitely keeping an eye on it. For now I'm sticking with 2Day.
There's a lot of apps that get the images off spotlight and just apply those without the buttons. I use Dynamic Theme, not because of the buttons (I don't mind ads, like at all), but because it automatically saves the images to my hard drive. Works nicely and can also do it to your desktop if you want.
Download Link (Microsoft Store)
It is forked version of 7zip but with windows 11 context menu support. You can checkout it's GitHub repo here.
If it is not showing option in context menu for some reason then you can try turning on Tools > Options > Settings > Show system menu and restarting file explorer should work.
Seems like v5.32.6129 is the last version before the Avast takeover, downloadable here: https://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/76624/
EDIT: and if you don't want the Active System Monitoring feature, v4.17.4808 is the last version that doesn't have it: https://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/58488/
Note: v4.17.4808 does not have support for Windows 10.
While that's true and annoying we can already share to our PCs, or remotely open the browser with the Connected Devices (formerly Share Across Devices) app: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh4tssg
Readit and mytube also support continuing on other devices.
I have two main reasons I don't use it.
I prefer a well tested, stable OS that doesn't change when I run daily/weekly updates
I disagree with their update policy about holding back security fixes and new versions of certain packages
Specifically, Mint Updater doesn't display updates for packages they consider "unsafe" to update. The rules file lists these:
dbus||4|| *xorg||4|| acpid||4|| mountall||4|| mesa||4|| systemd||4|| plymouth||4|| upstart||4|| base-files||5|| linux-||5|| linux||5|| grub||5|| grub2|*|5||
As security fixes come out for the Linux kernel, systemd, xorg, etc. they don't get applied. You can turn back on the unsafe packages in the settings, but since they're targeting the less savvy user, most likely they won't know about the policy or the settings to change it.
To be fair, most home users are behind a firewall, so it's not a critical issue, but it's not infeasible that a user could get compromised on a public WiFi network, or as part of an attack against something that is public facing like a web browser.
If they changed this policy, I personally still might not use it, but I would have no issues recommending it to others because of how much work Mint puts into making the OS functional right after install.
Vote it up here https://feedback.discordapp.com/forums/326712-discord-dream-land/suggestions/11286111-windows-10-universal-app
I'd like them to at least port it via Centennial program just like Slack did https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrdk3wp
I have been using nana zip since before others started recommending it, (I had found it looking through github) and haven't had any crashes or instabilities. Nanazip can be found here(GitHub) and here (MSStore)
(shameless self promotion incoming)
Here is my game I recently published to the Xbox One via the Creator's Collection:
https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9mtp8951hqnc
The WPDev subreddit is the place to get help with developing UWP apps (which is what you need to use to develop for the Xbox One Creator's Collection).
I'm working on a guide for building and publishing UWP for Xbox One, but I don't know how long it will take me to complete. There are a few gotchas, and Microsoft's documentation is a bit lacking in detail.
Hi u/ambassodortim, did you notice any patterns in the crash? Like, does it happen after any specific actions or a certain amount of time, or is it random? Also, how long has this specific issue has been going on?
Install the beta from here. If the crash happens in the beta, there should be an error message the next time you launch it. Take a pic of the error and send it to me. If it crashes and there's no error message, let me know. If the beta version doesn't crash at all, still let me know (though it honestly would be really unfortunate if it doesn't crash).
EDIT: I think I may have identified the issue. If you're getting this crash, install myTube Beta from here and wait for the 3.1.3 update this Wednesday or Thursday.
I recently added a caching mechanism to the app, which is constantly saving and deleting files from device storage as the app runs, sometimes dealing with up to 500 files at a time. The app is still works fine for me, and this caching has worked fine on PC & mobile for over 2 years in older versions of myTube, so I can't be 100% sure this is the cause. However, dealing with so many files at once seems like the exact kind of a thing a gaming console isn't really set up to handle.
Grover Podcast which was mentioned in the article - https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh6c4bc
Using it for almost a year, excellent application. Only thing that I am missing is cross devices syncing and Android version would be great too.
If you have a windows tablet running 10, There is a messaging preview app, that on non phones, will be Skype messaging over your Microsoft account.
edit: found the store link: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrfjbq6 . It is a universal app and can be installed on desktop and mobile Windows 10 versions.
The new, spyware version is 3.0.2. Here is FileHippo's page for Audacity; if you scroll down, you can download older versions while you look into alternatives.
Just a heads up, the mobile link will open all pushed webpages with Edge.
SearchWithMyBrowser can fix that. You can download it on GitHub or get it on the Windows Store for $1 if you feel like donating and/or want autoupdates (currently rewriting it from scratch to also redirect search engines when searching with Cortana).
It looks like Flipboard is still using the old Metro/modern interface rather than the newer UAP interface that apps are moving too. It likely hasn't been updated in forever. Their email is , I'd contact them to see if they are going to update to a Universal app anytime soon
Regarding sharing, you have to do the old Windows 8 way with the sharing charm. In the upper left is the three lines that bring down a dropdown menu, click that and press Share. This will bring up a menu on the right, where you can share the content too. On a default Windows install there is no way to share to clipboard, so if you pick Mail it will start a new email that has the link you can copy paste. If you want to save a step, you can install "Clipboard" app, which will add a clipboard option to the share screen
Clipboard - https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrdmbkl
I'm the developer of Windows / Windows Phone app, Giant Bomb Video Thing. Unfortunately this means I have to discontinue the app because I have no way of protecting video content in my app. The other option is to use the embed player, but at that point you might as well just use the website.
Just open it up, go through the guided setup process and you are done. This isn't Win95 where you need to spend a week tweaking and installing stuff to get everything right.
>Do you guys have recommendations for any programs every Windows user should have?
This will greatly vary based on your use, but most things will be installed right out of the box. I recommend getting Readit, it is the best Reddit client on Windows.
Readit (https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh189c8)
>I heard that Windows 10 has things like privacy issues and automatic updates, how do I fix these?
During the initial setup, if you don't do the express setup you can adjust some settings. Once in Windows if you open the Settings panel, and select Privacy, then you can adjust some more settings. Most of what you read online is alarmist FUD.
As for automatic updates, I don't recommend you disable them, but if you go to Settings then Update and Security, you can adjust some settings. If you set it to notify you, it will give you a toast notification that updates are ready to install, just shut the computer down when you are done and it will install the updates then. If you postpone the updates, eventually it will force install them, and usually at the worst possible time.
>On that note, will I need antivirus/spyware/adware etc? I haven't used them on my Mac, but I rarely go to shady websites to begin with.
Windows Defender antivirus is built in and works great, no 3rd party needed. Between that and using common sense you will be fine. Some also recommend installing an adblock extension to prevent some potential malware.
Some quick info for people if they don't have time to check/are lazy.
The link for the app is here
It does cost $4.99 ($5.80 CAD). For people who want to check it out there is a 24 hour free trial per /u/zenmn .
Thank god for this. I sincerely hope this makes it onto the X1. Spotify said they don't have any plans currently to bring Spotify to the Windows store (and by extension Xbox). Maybe this convinces them to make their own app for the platform. Here's hoping.
Cover!!
It's my favorite comic reader I have ever used and has opened every comic file I've thrown at it. It's a 'metro' app, so you can read comics in beautiful full screen. You can map the app to the folder you keep your comics and it'll display all your covers in a front page library which you can select from.
I highly recommend it.
Clip from the Super Star Troopers, a tactical strategy game for Windows 10 PCs. Check out @superstartroops and download the game now for FREE!
>eventually
Already there, dude :)
Here's my latest game: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9mtp8951hqnc
Single build runs on Xbox One, Windows (PC/tablet), and Windows 10 Mobile.
There are a handful of very minor platform-dependent bits of code in the game. Off the top of my head:
There might be more things that I can't remember, but each of those has code basically like:
if(RunningOnXbox) { // do this } else { // do this }
I found a few quirks with the Unity engine (I assume it's the engine, but it could be the UWP platform), such as the gamepad would work perfectly on PC, but not have focus on the Xbox. In these instances, I just fixed my code to take the Xbox into account.
So yeah, it's here!
I think myTube Beta might be the best, but the reason nobody makes desktop-focused YouTube apps is because desktop users are probably fine with the website
Halo 5: Forge is free within the Windows Store to all who have Windows 10. It allows you to build, play, and share maps/modes/prefabs created on both PC and Xbox. It also includes all of the dev-made maps and modes included in the Xbox version of Halo 5 (yes, this is full Halo 5 custom games on PC). There is no matchmaking, but something similar to a server browser is confirmed to be coming later this year. There is no cross-play between PC and Xbox at this time.
Here's the link to the store page where you can download it.
It might not be available yet, as its official release date is Thursday the 8th.
Make sure you meet the system requirements. Having the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) ~~and a GPU with DirectX feature level 12~~ are common issues for people.
Edit: DirectX feature level 11 now works.
If you don't have Windows 10 version 1607, check for updates in Windows Update. If that doesn't work, click "Learn more" in Windows Update. That will take you to a page where you can download a tool to manually update your Windows 10 to the newest version. All it takes is 1 click within the tool, and your computer will update itself automatically.
Join us at /r/halo!
Yes. I'm not sure if my favorite uBlock0 is available or not, but you can try AdBlockPlus now if you have the Anniversary Update installed. Open the link with Edge after updating the OS. You could also install it from Windows Store.
Try this app: contacts+message backup
You can transfer the messages backup file to your PC and figure out ways to make it printable in a readable format. The figuring out part isn't difficult.
First update for ParkenDD, an app for viewing live data of the parking situation at public parking lots where there's open data available (mainly Germany/Europe for now).
Everything is an application which indexes and searches your PC for files, folders, keywords, etc. This search bar inputs any text and executes everything.exe with that input. Basically yes it is google for the pc.
I doubt it, but MyTube! will probably get it. The dev is pretty active on various Reddit subs, simply a top-tier app.
It's a much, much better YouTube experience than the official app would ever dream of. Background music support and no ads!
I can assure you, the Expansion Pass says "Xbox One only" but to actually install Blizzard Mountain, you'll need to check all the DLC for FH3 in the store and install it manually. On Blizzard Mountain's store page (https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh42rl1), it correctly says Xbox Play Anywhere and shows Xbox and PC compatibility. You're fine and ready to go, and enjoy the slopes!
I recommend Lovely Darts, an awesome darts scorekeeping universal app that hit the store this weekend, simply because I developed it, and I'm proud of having accomplished something.
In my opinion, the name "Ubuntu Snap Store" carries a connotation that code is reviewed for malware by Ubuntu, the way that the Apple, Google, Amazon, etc. mobile app stores are.
Ubuntu makes this worse by giving us a false sense of security:
> Safe to run - Not only are snaps kept separate, their data is kept separate too. Snaps communicate with each other only in ways that you approve.
When they should be following Arch's model:
> DISCLAIMER: AUR packages are user produced content. Any use of the provided files is at your own risk.
Fable Fortunes is still a Play Anywhere game
TACOMA wasn't announced as a Play Anywhere game
Slime Rancher was never up for preorder on Windows 10 store
Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9WZDNCRFJBB1
This used to work with mobile. It isn't available to download anymore. Alot of us bought the Microsoft hardware for this for continuum. I assume this is what the comment was referring to
The compass in my 950XL is off 90 degrees (I look North and it thinks I'm looking West). Calibrating doesn't fix the issue. This has been an issue since the creators update. It is very frustrating because it messes up apps like Maps and Star Walk 2.
Every day I get a notification that my Microsoft account needs to be fixed for shared experiences. I click on it and I got to settings and nothing is wrong.
I can't update firmware on my Microsoft wireless display adapter.
Network Data no longer shows accurate data (everything is duplicated). Resetting the app doesn't help.
My old pinned websites now just open Bing searches with a garbled URL.
I have to restart my device almost daily because it eventually gets really hot and everything slows down. Most of the time I'm not doing anything with my phone when this happens.
If I am listening to music over Bluetooth it is really bad.
Bluetooth randomly turns back on by itself.
Bluetooth says it is on when it is really off (or vice versa).
Bluetooth says it is still connected to my car even though my car is off and in the parking lot when I'm at work.
Basically the whole Bluetooth stack is worse now than it has ever been (I didn't think that was possible).
Edit: There are more issues but these are the most annoying.
Edit 2:
Forgot to mention that Edge likes to unload webpages on me all the time too. I stream audio off a website and after about 5 minutes it cuts out. When I turn my phone back on edge is reloading the website. Before the creators update I could listen all day and this wouldn't happen.
Also sometimes my screen fails to turn on. I turn my phone on and the screen stays black. My Windows Hello camera turns on but nothing else happens. (This has always been an issue thought it seems more common in the creators update.)
You might like to try Xodo Reader from the Windows Store. Use it as my regular PDF reader.
For editing PDFs, PDF Assistant Pro isn't too bad (Though the UX is probably more useful for Surface Pen users like myself :)
Thanks for the guide for my optimizer! :) btw. there is a web version of it too. The W10 version has more features though.
W10 app: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh5f9gg
Web version: http://tool.swop.one/
On friday I will release a new version with a fair amount of new and useful features, so stay tuned.
Not sure if this helps but there is an app Dynamic Theme which basically allows you to choose spotlight/bing images as your lock screen background or you desktop background. However, unlike the windows spotlight you can't vote and chose what kind of images you want.
For anybody wanting to do something like this here's the free version of it, it has no fancy features but according to a random site this is 1.01 free version:
i've been copying and pasting this reply so much the past few days, try pirate bay. they may not have what you're looking for, but hell it's worth a look.
https://pirateproxy.website/browse
this is a tracker you can use to search for torrents. try searching for things like SNES or Genesis, or whatever you're looking for.
https://filehippo.com/download_bittorrent/
this is a torrent client you can use to download the files. you want to click on the magnet links in the pirate bay site.
Thats 2.0, when it came out it was free anf the free version is 1.0 & 1.0.1 ~~http://www.afterdawn.com/software/desktop/misc_desktop_tools/stardock_fences.cfm~~ thats the dl but it includes a download helpper adware thing
boom - http://www.filepuma.com/download/fences_1.01-121/download/
Right, apps doesn't support features will just get thrown out. Like, there's already 7zip fork, that supports the new context menu — https://github.com/M2Team/NanaZip (store: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9N8G7TSCL18R)
It looks like FileHippo has a copy of it - https://filehippo.com/download_windows-usb-dvd-download-tool/
The site appears to be a bit crazy with the ads even with an ad blocker, so proceed with caution.
Just look through the settings app, there's lots of useful stuff there (such as different wallpapers on multiple monitors 😉). Other than that you might prefer the taskbar at the top but there's not much beyond that. QuickLook replicates the macOS function where you press Space on a file to get a preview
This bug occurred to me multiple times too. For now, the best fix is to download Dynamic Theme from Windows Store and setting the lockscreen background to Windows Spotlight from the app. Maybe Microsoft will fix it in future, but this bug has been in Windows 10 since the release (at least for me)
A wallpaper I've found on unsplash.com (btw, there is a good client for unsplash in the store : Myersplash https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh4vcsn )
Here the link to my current wallpaper: http://i.imgur.com/pzuQXIh.jpg ;)
Thanks. That's a very strange error message though. Would you happen to be in the Xbox Insider Program? Also, if you have a Windows 10 PC or phone, can you try a 360 video in myTube Beta (https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrdt29j) on it and let me know if it works there?
EDIT: Forgot to mention 360 video requires the Creator's Update, so you'll just get a distorted video if you don't have the update on your PC.
It's open to anyone. Just have to find it through a URL since it isn't listed on the store.
Just "claim" as if it was a free games with gold. Next time you're on your console, it should be in your ready to install
I recently released my UWP app SonicWeb (https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9pfnxs8cbkhn) for Windows 10, but only for Desktop. I quickly realized that many of the people downloading windows store apps are the windows phone users this article mentions. A friendly community that is very thankful for new, good apps. Almost every mail with feedback contained the wish to release it as a windows phone app. Guess what I am working on at the moment. In regard to the future of windows phones I think MS is working hard toward a fully unified Windows. Windows runs on many kinds of devices. Some of them are able to connect to the internet using cell networks. And some of them enable you to make phone calls. These are called windows phone devices today. Tomorrow they will be just another type of device a unified windows runs on. And if this strategy really works out, my UWP app will be ready.
Yes they do, and it is up to the developer to decide when and by how much and for how long.
When it's a popular app usually some news sites like WinBeta, WindowsCentral or MSPU will cover it otherwise there's often a featured collection in the Windows Store of apps that are on sale, OR you can use an app like Win Store Deals
You're probably missing c++ visual files, as for directx it's pretty easy fix. You're missing some directx9.0c files, get them from here: https://filehippo.com/download_directx/ (exe file will extract the files into folder you select then run dxsetup.exe from that folder).
First disable auto update in 57.
about:config:
update.auto - false; app.update.enabled - false; app.update.silent - false.
Secure all your bookmarks and other data.
Then install an old version over e.g. here
I wonder if all Mint apologizers knows how their update classification mechanism work....
I've used to be neutral about this matter but one day I made the mistake of looking at the source code that classifies when an update is safe and what not.

There many web browsers/mail clients out there in Ubuntu repo.... Why only Firefox and Thunderbird are prioritized?
>Mint is a good one to start with.
Mint is literally just Ubuntu with even worse security and a developer that doesn't know what they're doing.
If you care about security at all, you shouldn't use Mint.
>“This is the list of packages it will never update, instead of just integrating changes properly with the packages in the ubuntu archive they instead suppress doing (security) updates at all for them.”
>“I would say forcefully keeping a vulnerable kernel browser or xorg in place instead of allowing the provided security updates to be installer makes it a vulnerable system, yes. I personally wouldn't do online banking with it
AB and AB+ were ported in time for the Anniversary Update, and can be found on this page https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/collections/edgeextensions/pc
uBO is in preview and so you need the url to install it https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh444l4
I didn't even realize it was hidden. What happens if you follow this link:
https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrdt29j
If you don't have a Windows 10 device, then follow the link on your Xbox One's browser. "Get the app" should open the Store on Xbox.

If it doesn't work, try the next link:

EDIT: Added some context why I've posted two links.
I would vote 'Cast' by David Catuhe. Also a UWP app on desktop/mobile but not sure on Continuum support though. I believe it also syncs all subscriptions, play progress in a podcast and settings these days.
What do you mean by "first party". Is there a company that owns the txt standard? Every text editor is a first party app.
There is an excellent txt editor and viewer though. NotepadX.
I recommend MPC-BE if you're using a mouse and keyboard or at least an IR based Media Center remote control (which MPC-BE supports as well). Otherwise look into Kodi for a Media Center type deal that is suitable for touchscreens.
If you want a Metro program, try the VLC one: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrfj3t0
For music I recommend Foobar2000 even though MPC-BE can play music files as well, its optimized for use as a video player more than a music player. AIMP if you want a skinned interface that resembles WinAMP. Other free ones are MusicBee, Dopamine, Clementine.
Not an ideal fix, but try this: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrdtbtq It's the Messaging + Skype preview, should hopefully at the very least get messaging up and running again! I would be interested to see what happens if you received a text message though, or attempted to start an SMS from the People app. Good luck!
Gonna chime in here and say Note Sphere. This is an impressive note taking app. It really does market itself so check it out. Free of course.
Edit: for those who will notice the IAP, these are voluntary donations only. No functionality is hidden behind a pay-wall.
They ought to implement a loot filter like Torchlight 2 has. Let it offer options so you could, say, select the different levels of rarity and socket / link numbers you wanted to see on the ground for weapons, armor, and jewelry separately, as well as select what recipe components you want to see so long as you'd discovered the recipe (gotta get dem' stone hammers and chromatic items).
On the desktop the default graphical store is called Ubuntu Software, and is based on GNOME Software. It enables users to install debs from the Ubuntu archives (and external repositories or PPAs if enabled). It also has support (via plugins) to install non-deb packages like snaps and flatpaks. Ubuntu ships with the snap plugin by default so allows users to see snaps from the Snap Store. Those snaps are the same ones you see at https://snapcraft.io/store, which is the web frontend to the Snap Store.
Really? After a few times you understand how it works and doesn't require looking up... Its actually really simple.
Also you don't need to run apt from the command line there are GUI apps that can do it for you. There are package managers like synaptic that work well.
I'm using it since 2020 and have never seen a process by the name of paint.exe and my antivirus has never flagged ghost toolbox as a malware, idk why it's the case for you. You downloaded it from the official website right? Did you install the 'superlight version' or 'compact version?'
Also I recommend to use a program like Autoruns to check which programs start on boot
If you're worried about what software you can get, check the repositories zorin uses flathub and snap store, you will find most apps you could want. If you can't find anything for some, google alternatives available on Linux. They are often times as good or even better than windows alternatives.
Hi ncc386, I'm on Xubuntu 18.04, and---while I don't know how to fix it or why it happens---I can report that I get it too. For me it also says something like "Unable to check for updates" or something.
Whatever it means, it doesn't seem to affect how Software Center works. It also seems to happen to me on first launch. I just close the little popup window and carry on. I can still use Software Center just fine.
P.S. In general I avoid using Software Center for reasons like this. I prefer the <em>Synaptic Package Manager</em> (Synaptic for short) as my GUI package manager . It's been around forever, is much more comprehensive and powerful. It's in the Ubuntu repos, you can install it via Software Center or in the terminal sudo apt-get install synaptic
.
Hmmm, it's definitely still on the Store so you won't risk ownership by uninstalling. However, whether or not you're able to reinstall is unknown.
Perhaps you could try installing myTube Beta from here and see if it works?
Hmmm, that error code page makes it sound like uninstalling and reinstalling would work. Perhaps you could try installing the beta version first, then try reinstalling the main app. If you're unable to reinstall it, at least you have the beta until it gets fixed.
He means the old Realtek control panel application is no longer bundled with the driver, it's been replaced by a new universal app that you have to download from the Microsoft Store
Just forget about the Telegram Desktop client and use Unigram, it's much prettier, has a dark theme, lots of options, is open-source, has responsive design and interactive native notifications with inline-reply and action-center support
There is a way though, you could set a darker image for your Background, that way All apps list will be darker, giving you almost the result you wanted. Try something like this: link
Or you could use Dynamic Theme app https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9NBLGGH1ZBKW and set size of your picture to Fill, Fit, Stretch or Center on you Background, just like on PC Desktop!
I have a HP Photosmart. After I updated to Creators Update the scanner didn't worked anywhere.
I asked HP and they said to try to use the HP Smart app on the store and it worked. So you could try that.
#tileart
MS made it in 8.1 days but then they gave up on it. So the tiles are based on the further distant ones in 8.1. Still works great if you do it right.
I listen to 50+ podcasts and I use Podcast+ Pro. I've posted this before:
> I love the ability to tag my podcasts and setup custom playlists. Plus it has a great driving mode.
> I tried Grover Pro and OneCast but missed the ability to tag my podcasts and setup custom playlists.
> Tagging podcasts in Podcast+ Pro is such a useful feature. For instance I subscribe to several podcasts from Twit so I've tagged them all as "Twit" this allows me to quickly view just the new episodes from Twit.

Look at android store, If I find an app I use like tumblr then I look it up on the store, download it and try it out.
App Developer Accounts through the store. For example you can look at this app scroll down and find the developer's name click and see of they have other app already created. It's how I found his clipboardX app and I enjoy it very much.
Not 100% complete, but the best list yet:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/53s10e/list_of_apps_converted_using_project_centennial/
one notable item missing from the list I can think of is Adobe Photoshop Elements 15: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh4rp6z
Power Golf and Bomberman '94 are both available for $2.49. At least, they are here in the US. Can't speak for international availability. There's far more PCE games on the Windows Store in Japan, but we at least got these two?
I've tested them on Win 10 and they work great. Haven't tried in Win 8, so I can't speak to that. They don't appear to be available for Xbox One, but they may support Windows Phone. At least, I hope they do, since they have giant obtrusive touchscreen controls (which can be turned off).
Xbox One can play music from your server with VLC:
https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh4vvnh
VLC has been around for 15 years as a desktop application for Windows, Linux and Mac. It has since been released for all mobile platforms.
After Microsoft opened Xbox app store for all developers and xbox became part of UWP, VLC developers released the app for Xbox One as well.
We've just released our successful Hue app for Lifx. Now available for Windows 10, Windows Mobile and Xbox One.

Other apps don't go the extra mile as we do!
Thanks. Well it involved a bit of a journey and some experimentation, which luckily I can cut out for you and you can skip to the good bit! :D
The icon pack is from Deviant Art.
To get them displayed correctly you need to use an app to configure it, then a "helper" app that runs all the time to manage the interactions - this means you can create a shortcut for almost anything. (There are lots of apps that do this function, however the one below is the only one I found that maintains transparencies.)
The main app is Better StartMenu - windows store link once you open that up there are links to the helper app and i'd recommend going through their site if you have any questions.
Be aware it can be a slightly tricky getting links to all the apps - especially windows store ones, but you should be able to figure it our from the FAQ. If not drop me a PM and I'll help out.
Good luck!
Oh, I didn't know, that they shut down their site. :o Well, I'm the developer of the other optimization app / site. So if you have W10, you can use the W10 rune optimizer (https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh5f9gg) or use the web version of it (http://tool.swop.one/)
Having the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607) and a GPU with DirectX feature level 12 are common issues for people.

I'm working on adding this to Spatial Weather, but I'm a little curious as to exactly one would like to see on the lockscreen as far as detailed text goes. The weather for the next hour or more of a summary for the day going forward? There's three lines of text play with.
Easiest would be just upcoming weather within the next 3 hours, min-max temperature and amount of rain and descriptive wind speed... but I'm not sure that's optimal.
I'm also thinking about doing a persistent toast in the notification center that you can expand for an hourly view, might be useful to check the weather without unlocking. Unfortunately you can't pre-expand toasts otherwise i'd be even better
Displays map app over new York city
Incase you wanna try others: UWP URI Launcher
easyscope is a pretty sweet 3d party periscope app that's still in beta. it doesn't currently have the ability to broadcast live.. but hopefully it will eventually
For Windows 10 users: There's 2 Factor Authenticator. Simple, to the point app. Syncs with your Microsoft Account, so if your device fails it'll still restore all your accounts thanks to OneDrive. Available for Windows 10 PCs, tablets, and phones.
Highly recommend for anyone on Windows 10.
Edit: That being said, I still highly encourage everyone to make sure they have backup codes saved somewhere safe! You can never be too careful.
I wrote an app that can resize a bunch of pictures so you can easily send them by mail. Unless you want to send them in the original resolution, that might work for you.
You can use Bing images as an alternative, or wpapp[SpotBright] to download Spotlight images.
EDIT:
Hm, the bot doesn't cooperate, here's the link for SpotBright: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/spotbright/9nblggh5km22
The windows 8/8.1 default PDF/XPS reader! best reader ever for me!
https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrfhwg5
does have two pages, and even editing with the pen (just drawing over) and highlighting parts of the text.
Readit UWP (Universal Windows Platform) for Windows Mobile 10, Windows 10, Xbox one, etc.
There's also an incredibly good one for the older Windows phone 8.1.
It's best on phone, but the unified version for windows is getting better.

If you're on Windows 10 (or 8.1) and open to a third-party solution, I made an app called Achievement Art which I think is pretty useful for browsing unlocked achievements.
I'm a developper myself I just posted 2 days ago a new app called Parents Panel on Windows 10. sorry for the app promotion :D. I really like the Platform the ease of software development and the idea of developing one app for mobile tablet and PC. I am a Windows developer since 2002 I think. I tried XCode and it is like stone age compared to Visual Studio. However, what matters at the end is how much do you get from your apps. It is still a large gap in this context between Windows and other platforms. Maybe if they get their 1 billion users things will change and then the store will be relevant.
I'll throw my tiny app DailyPic into the ring, feel free to test it out. Gives you more or less full access to everything you can imagine what can be done with the Bing daily wallpaper (and all of the past Bing wallpapers of the last 6 years!!) https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblgggzm5n9
