bands in town is one I have heard good things about. Also the livenation or ticketmaster apps are supposed to be good. Although I think you need to "like" or follow specific artists to get notifications - they might also make recommendations based on songs you have downloaded.
BANDSINTOWN.COM is another good site. Both Jambase and BandsInTown will allow you sign up and like certain bands. They will email you when bands you like or similar bands come to town.
Unfortunately, no. Especially now that Westword is sucking more and more.
I've been having a lot of luck with Bandsintown, but a lot of it seems to be familiarizing yourself with the venues in town and checking the calendars for the ones who play the kinds of stuff you're into.
Denver.org is surprisingly decent for festivals too.
I've found a lot of interesting shows that I never would have heard of through Bands In Town. It's an app that will scan basically all of your streaming sites (Pandora, Spotify, Last FM etc) and it can also scan the music on your phone. It shows you all your artists concerts as well as recommending ones by similar artists. I probably go to 300% more concerts since I've started using it.
Bandsintown works best for me (but its not perfect) alongside this website specifically for Aus/Melbourne. Though I usually end up hearing about upcoming shows first from hearing the artist announce it on their radio show that I listen to - or on social media.
I also like Bandsintown. They also have a good app, fwiw. I know the app will scan your iTunes library, Pandora, Spotify, etc. and tell you when bands you listen to are coming to town. I've never used Jambase so I can't compare the two, but Bandsintown is pretty awesome.
This site will give you an email notification when they play in a town near you. There are several artists that I've searched for that aren't available to "follow" but they've had quite a few. For smaller artists you might have to follow them on Facebook or Twitter or something.
Hope that works out for you!
There are some big shows coming up. A bunch of good options near halloween. There's nectar at peoria, hardwell at uic, griz at milwaukee, flux at aragon (freaky deaky). And that's only on halloween day. There's also day 2 of freaky deaky which looks pretty good with nervo, tchami.
There are a bunch more I'm missing. I recommend using bandsintown and connect it with your facebook, that way any artist you like will be added and if you go to: http://www.bandsintown.com/home You can see all the shows near you with the artists you liked and so on.
Secondly I would recommend you join the fb group EDM Chicago. People post shows there all the time, and you can talk about rides or campsite splitting, and so on.
You have stepped into an amazing world. And when you go to EF your mind will be blown. IMO camping festivals > non-camping festivals, although non-camping ones are also amazing.
Bandsintown Website: http://www.bandsintown.com/home Android App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bandsintown
You can put a bunch of your favorite bands in there too, and it will notify you when they're headed to town.
I am a big fan of BandsInTown, you can use itunes or spotify to upload a list of all the artists in your music library and it will notify you any time one of them schedule a date in your home city.
I also bookmark the website of every venue that I like near me. If I've got a boring weekend coming up, I go through all of them and see if there are any promising shows.
It makes me so happy when I get notifications about old bands going back on tour. There's an app called bandsintown that keeps me up to date when a band will be nearby.
I too have trouble keeping track of my favorite artists and can't believe I still miss some events.
Aside from subscribing to STGPresents email newsletters and following Chappelle on Twitter, if you use Facebook I'd recommend signing up for Bands in Town via Facebook login. They automatically track the artists you like on Facebook and will notify you about tours.
eta.. well even BIT failed since they don't show any upcoming shows for Chappelle...
My go-to is Songkick but another good alternative is Bands In Town. If you use Pandora or Last.FM - you can link up your accounts on these sites so that the show suggestions will be relevant to your favorite/most listened artists. If you use a calendar that accepts RSS (like Google calendar), you can create a customized event calendar that updates automatically based upon the feeds from Songkick and Bands In Town.
Another good source of concert information is through event promoters. Sometimes they offer event feeds which you can port into your calendar as well.
Awesome, was just about to post this, but I haven't taken a screenshot on my phone in forever so I put it off and looked for more information online. Haven't found any yet. However, if anyone is interested, this picture was taken on an app named Bandsintown.
People tend to like money so they keep touring as long as they can. KISS was in town last week, ACDC and John Farnham are coming to town in November.
Xpress is still around too. Not sure for how long though. They recently changed from weekly issues to monthly issues.
If you want to know when someones in town I recommend using something like Bands in Town
> They'd been advertising it on the radio pretty heavily. Sirius XM listeners may have been in the dark, but good old fashioned FM listeners knew about it.
Sirius or streaming music (Pandora or whatever's in my iTunes library) is pretty much all I listen to. Mostly because every single time I tune in to 95.1, the only decent station in town, they're playing ads. My commute is only 15-20 minutes, and I'd kinda prefer not to spend 1/3 of that time listening to ads.
That said, I knew about the concert thanks to Bandsintown, but I went to the Foo Fighters in Atlanta this weekend.
Maybe sign up with Bandsintown. Always alerts me when my favorite artists are in town. Whiskey Myers is in town like every other night. Same with most other texas country groups.
bandsintown is a nice resource for this stuff. Also as u/FreddieFreelance suggested, Citybeat and San Diego Reader are great for finding music.
I also really like Tin Can Ale House for smaller folky stuff. Bar Pink is nice cause they always have something and it's always free. Always seem to mix up genres.
Find a local record store that sells tickets - like the one in my area covers most of the venues
some venues you just have to check directly
also check out http://www.bandsintown.com/home
Doesn't Bands in Town do something like that? Whatever the site/app, it will always work only for the bands that actually add their shows to that site/app.
Or you could do what everyone else is already using: facebook, twitter, RSS and newsletters.
these are lovely, and i use all three, but i get weekly emails from bandsintown and I'm always amazed at how they know exactly what I wanna see.
Plus PopGun and ToddP.
bandsintown works pretty nice for me in chicago.... once you get a good list of artists in there. you have to either sync pandora or facebook though or get an account... the concert cloud is useful.
