There is an App where you can find language - tandem partners. You would help your tandem partner with their English (or whatever your mother toung is) and they help you with German.
Tandem is great for this. It is set up a bit like a dating site, where you list some activities and interests you like to talk about. You can also filter by native/target language, gender, country, age, etc. You have to fill out a short application and get approved for the site (basically to avoid getting creeps who will try to send dick pics to everyone). There's a function in the app to correct each other's typed messages, and also to video chat in the app without having to give out personal info.
There's a pretty decent app (Tandem) that helps you connect with native Russians for language exchange. I've only used it a few times, but so far it's been great. Downside is it's just an app, so you're stuck typing on your phone keyboard instead of on a laptop.

Ce zice lumea cu sport. Endorfinele ajuta!
Stop beating yourself up, tu macar faci ceva, altii o freaca maxim.
Just an idea, but you could look into a language learning site (for example, https://www.tandem.net/) where you get to video chat with different people. It may help break up the isolation you feel. Stay strong. 🫂
I don't know where you live, but online you can use tandem.net and italki.com to find both teachers and other people to exchange with both in text and over voice/video :)
For a nice online option, try Tandem ! From my experience learning German on it (and teaching French), the people are very nice. Just as any other site of its genre, don't put too much personal information on your profile or be careful about your pictures. Otherwise, as long as you're willing to share your language, it's a nice option. I don't know if there is an (official) age limit to use the app though
What really helped me with my Spanish is doing a language tandem. I met with a Mexican guy who wanted to practice German - we did 30mins Spanish and 30mins German. A win-win and since both are learning the native language of the other person it’s also not too embarrassing lol
You can have look here:
https://sprachenzentrum.univie.ac.at/sprachlernboerse/
https://www.tandem.net/de/partner/tandempartner-wien
Plus using the Duolingo app. I used it every day on my way to work, helped a lot with learning vocabulary and phrases.
If you do all three - regular classes to get started and learn grammar, language tandem once per week, duolingo 10mins every day - you should be good to go in a couple of months.
Until then, if you need to translate something I’d recommend deepL if you don’t know it already, it’s really good.
Best of luck! :)
You might want to check https://www.tandem.net/ or similar apps (google "language exchange")
https://www.fluentu.com/blog/english/english-speaking-online/
Y la aplicación Tandem: https://www.tandem.net/practice-speaking-english
Suerte!
That's incredible dedication, good on you. To compliment Duolingo try our app usefluent.co for more practice throughout your day without having to spend any extra time studying.
For conversations I've heard really good things about this app called Tandem where you can pair up with other people wanting to learn a language as well and practice through video chat. Check them out maybe Tandem
Honestly, I always read about the language and its characteristics before I start learning it: Wikipedia article on the French language and then I start with an easy course such as Duolingo before taking more advanced and independent courses. After this and a few other (paid) courses, you should just try to get immersed, which is easy with an app such as Tandem.

10 second search. Just Google smartly, there are heaps of these kind of websites, possibly Facebook groups, etc.
C2 is the highest level in the Common European Framework Reference, which is a widely-used assessment of language proficiency. So that is excellent! If you'd like to practice speaking, you might check out Tandem. I haven't had a chance to try it out myself yet, but the idea seems good.
If you keep working on Spanish for 1/2 hours a day you will probably be able to have your first conversations in a matter of months. I recommend listening to full speed audio, rather than slowed down things for beginners. Slow speaking sounds different to fast, in terms of words being squashed together and pronounced less distinctly. Don't worry if you don't understand, you will sooner than you think.
Since your goal is conversational fluency, I recommend using Language Exchange website like https://www.tandem.net/ where you trade your language for your partner's and learn to converse for free. Maybe try a conversation per week at first. Its easier to understand people speaking a few words to you in a conversation than it is to understand a podcast or ted talk etc. in your target language. Everyone on these sites is in the same boat, trying to improve their language abilities.
What do you mean with practice conversing? For practice SPEAKING german you could have a look into finding a "Tandem partner". This website was first google result.
Or did you want to practice Chatting with people on the internet in German? If so, you can just try to convince any person on this very subreddit I guess
Ffs, this is from tandem app user guide or something like that:
Common behaviors:
The scammer pretends to be a younger female from China or Hong Kong and they claim to own a coffee shop, beauty salon or restaurant.
They will ask you to switch to a different messaging platform, like WhatsApp, WeChat or Line.
They will not want to have a video call with you (as that would expose their real identity).
They pretend to be interested in the stock market or economy of your country.
They will ask you to invest in online currency, cryptocurrency or stocks.

If only he read some documentations from tandem:
https://www.tandem.net/pages/psa
What is a scammer?
Scammers create fake profiles on Tandem by using photos that are not their own. They contact other members, try to build relationships, give fake information about their life and eventually ask for money.
In order to keep yourself safe on Tandem:
Remember the rules of internet safety
Never send money or give out any personal details!

Google language exchange or check meetup, you could also volunteer if you have spare time it helped my wife when we moved. It takes a while to train your ears and learn the local expressions but you'll get there.
Good luck.

Heyyy, thank you so muchhh! I would suggest to watch American YouTube videos, movies, documentaries, practice with people on Omegle as well as record yourself and listen to your recordings. Also have a look at this link https://www.tandem.net/how-to-master-american-accent Good luck!
I'm making a post tomorrow about this on r/Engishlearning and now I'll post it here too!, I also had (And still have) many issues with my pronunciation and I want to share what I did to change this, I hope it'll help you :)
And don't be discouraged, there are many mean persons in this world but there are also many other that would like to help you! You can look for a partner to practice with in tandem or many other platforms, I've made beautiful friendships through that app :)
I totally respect the work you're doing, and am sorry you're going through this. I think /u/nickbob00 has it right, and hiking/outdoor stuff will be your best bet. Meetup.com has many Zurich based groups and a calendar you can browse.
You can also begin working on your German through Tandem Language Exchange, which has a great community.
Firstly, I just wanted to say what a great, engaged parent you are. I wish I had known I had dyslexia at your daughter's age (though I don't think my parents would have known what to do with it) and your care and diligence needs to be acknowledged. I remember crying due to frustration a lot in middle school/HS and I'm sure you're doing this, but give that girl a hug - she's doing so well all things considered :)
I am not an expert in this, so please consider that - but for my language learning I found trying to memorise words off the page really hard, esp since the way they sound translates differently in other languages (thankfully spanish is one of those languages that is more phonetically straightforward than english). So instead, I worked more on picking up language through conversation and oral practice - I labelled things in the house and worked on only using only the not-english words for them to pick up vocab. (Didn't try to say everything in say, Spanish, but instead like: If you cook, I'll set la mesa, Gotta run to el bano before heading off to escuela to see my amigas! Have a good day at la oficina, mom!) Obviously this only works for vocab that's useful for daily life, but it helped with integrating just the vocab into my memory and took the pressure off getting everything right.
On the other side - can you find someone to do language exchange with (spanish/english trade)? I imagine there's some kind of group for that (like https://www.tandem.net/) For me, using the language instead of trying to learn it is what made the difference - if that makes sense. This wouldn't exactly follow course curriculum, but might help and make it more fun.
Finally - can you ask her teachers if she can take the exams orally? (If you think that would make a difference) - I find that i'm much more comfortable speaking a language bc it flows without being bogged down in translating everything to writing.
good luck to your daughter!
I'm so sorry for the late reply!
Anyhow, you definitely should set up goals for yourself (big or small) and have people to keep you accountable. For learning Japanese for example, you could use Tandem to meet people who'll teach you Japanese and hold you accountable.
If this wouldn't be an option, I'd say this: switch focus from motivation. It is not a reliable source to get things done. It's an emotion. Not reliable at all. Instead, seek ways to be inspired and you'll much easier process information and learn in a more healthy way.
The real fuck up is you've have 6 years to learn French.
You can do it in one year if you really focus. Here is one and a second resource for you. Don't forget to focus on your listening and conversing skills - you can find a conversation partner online who can give you tips for navigating your vacation.
Of course this isn't to perpetuate the lie, but to thank your in laws for their generous gift of a vacation and not let them down. You should come clean.
As far as frequency list, unfortunately it is widely inconsistent and will depend a lot on the source material. If you have 70% of the core 2k, you should already have the "surviving" vocab.
So for vocabulary, I've made a list of more than 200 decks for top anime, or tv shows made with sub2srs. You have links to the deck in there. You'll know how much you'll understand, I've made a column for the 2k deck. More details in the "read me" tab.
If you want to read manga, I've made a yotsuba deck, but it's only the first 5 chapters. It's in the spreadsheet. Your best luck is to read directly on billingual manga. Switch between japanese and english with one click. You can use riakichamp and the like as well.
As for output, it's my main problem as well. What I do is find people to write to people on tandem. Only natives that can and want to speak one of my language. Every message I type is both in japanese and english under it so they can understand what I mean if I make mistakes. And I make mistakes every sentence. They correct my japanese, I take my sentence and make into a card for anki. I aske why this and not that, that kind of thing. I do the same for them in english.
I don't have any tried and tested methods, but I'll give you two ways that theoretically could work.
Online tutoring/language exchange (e.g. Tandem). I guess one of the best ways of learning are by doing. I think you might be able to find people who are willing to help you there. (If you haven't heard of a language exchange before, it's basically where you hook up with someone who wants to learn a language you know and also can speak the language you want to know and you can do various things with them like messaging and calls). If you know a native speaker, maybe you could practice with them.
Writing. Similarly to the above method where you try and learn by doing, you could write how you would say things in certain scenarios or journal. I guess you could also do voice recordings if you prefer. I think the act of recording whichever way may emulate the 'thinking on your feet' aspect you need when you are trying to speak.
I guess these are sort of vague responses. Perhaps you could tell us what aspect of speaking you're interested in improving (i.e., ability to recall the words in the moment or pronunciation or your choice of words etc..). Maybe you could also say what your motivation is for trying to do this.
Hope that helps.
> but alone, it can't bring you to this level
This. Duolingo can be fun but honestly, it's really not going to get you that far by itself. The biggest thing I can recommend is tools like u/slepyhed mentioned that really help you engage with content in the language rather than simply translating single sentences.
I highly recommend websites like Tandem so that you can talk to native speakers and get comfortable with speaking it. This'll be super difficult at first but stick to simple conversations and even use translate when you need to, over time you'll pick things up and make some really good progress. If you can, even have calls with native speakers and don't worry about making mistakes, that's all part of the journey.
When you get a bit further, find some YouTubers that speak Spanish, listen to music in Spanish, do everything you can to immerse yourself. Learning a language is tough and it'll take time, but it's worth it.
I also highly highly highly recommend Spanishdict and Butterfly Spanish has some really good lessons.
Try Tandem (www.tandem.net) and iTalki (www.italki.com), both are very good and give you access to plenty of people to practice with. ITalki doesn't provide audio or video calls out of the box, but once you're in touch you can share contact info. Tandem, on the other hand, has a (rather flaky TBH) audio and video call feature built-in.
I find it helps to mimic accents of any media I consume in my target language.
Could be a language learning method such as Memrise; in that case I just pronounce every word out loud alongside the voice audio.
Could be a youtube video or tv series; in that case I listen carefully, rewind and talk along with the character or tv host.
This way you don't only focus on single pronunciations, but also on sentence intonation and specific pauses when a native is speaking. It taught me to speak more naturally overall. What can also help is asking for feedback on an audio file online, or using platforms such as Tandem.
There is an App im currently Using called "Tandem", their free model is pretty good. You basically set up your account with the languages you speak and the ones you want to learn, write a few things about yourself and you get to see other people who fit to you (wanting to learn your native language while being japanese Natives). Then you can simply chat about anything you want with them (including video calls). You teach them and they teach you, while you get to speak to people like you on a regular basis.
The premium membership only allows you to spot people near you and removes adds.
I would recommend you take a look at /r/languagelearning's list of language exchange items.
Out of the resources listed, I highly suggest HelloTalk. Tandem is also another app that allows you to chat with other people.
Veep, House of Cards, The Office, Mad Men, Shark Tank, among others have specific vocabulary and they can help you a lot.
You should study lots of phrasal verbs; those give you fluency.
Regarding your study plan, I think it was well designed and it will take you where you want to be. You just need to be practicing all the time: reading stuff you like, listening to music, chatting in English... I recommend you this app.
I did a year abroad in Spain and then Italy during college and did this tandem program (although it was through the university and not this website). Basically they pair a native Italian speaker who wants to learn English with a native English speaker who wants to learn Italian. You meet up for an hour or so and speak only in English for half the time and only Italian for the second half.
Came here to comment exactly this. Tandem is a great and free app where you can find other language learners to talk with, either by text or by video.
In the app, you choose what language you are learning (e.g. English) and what languages you already know, and the app automatically matches you with people who know your target language and are learning the ones you already know. If you want, there is a setting that allows you to find other people that know the same language as you, and are learning the same target language.
Feel free to pm me for any questions!
I think it's mostly where you're wanting to say 'there is' or 'there was', I was probably a little harsh - in that place you need 'es gibt' or 'es gab', just took me a couple of scans to get those sentences.
For the letter section, I seem to remember the marks scheme (also available to download somewhere but all in German ofc) said something about grading based on intelligibility rather than grammar, though getting both right is clearly ideal! I'd like to hope my perpetual struggle with remembering genders correctly will only drop me a mark or two...
Technically had I been willing to revise and do a little homework, I should have been able to walk away with a B2 pass, but I decided to avoid the stress for now and just get what I need for citizenship. Maybe in the future I'll eventually work my way up to C1 (C2 "Mastery" still seems extremely out of my reach!) and get myself properly tested as a vanity thing :)
Definitely the next thing you want to be doing is constructing your own sentences, as you did in your post, and talking to native speakers. I don't really know what resources are available, but this looks like a 'tinder for language'!: https://www.tandem.net/practice-speaking-german/
I'm sorry to hear that!
I've been there two weeks ago and it feels like nothing makes sense anymore, you replay all these memories in your head trying to understand and to figure out what you could have done better to make it work, to change it.
In my first week I as a mess, the first day after we broke up I couldn't control myself. I would start crying every single time because everything in my house remembered of her.
As days pass you will get better and you will forget, she's still going to be in your heart, you will still love her, but you will accept the fact that you aren't together anymore.
The best thing you can do right now is to rely on your family and friends, go out, have fun, meet and talk to new people that will help you keep your mind off of her.
It will get better.
Hey use an app even If you aren't ready to go out and meet new people. https://www.tandem.net/
You'll find people all over the world with whom to text and talk via video and voice. This app helped me so much to get over my ex. I had to rely on it because I live fairly far from my friends and we only see eachother once a week.
But the people I've meet there helped me so much to get over it. And share your problem with them. It will help you.
