If the Tab S7 is not recognizing the HDD, then it may be because the HDD is in NTFS format. You may format it to exFAT32 or ExFat or you can use this software
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
This is because Android does not natively support NTFS or exFAT file systems. Some high end OEMs like OnePlus include it, but many cheaper OEMs don't.
I have a custom kernel on my phone which adds support for these file systems.
The easiest way for people to add support without root or bootloader access is through an app like this one, but unfortunately the file system support is not free.
[EDIT: One free way is to backup the files currently stored on your SD card, then reformat it in your Umidigi F1. It should format the card to format which the phone can read and then you will be good to go.]
Maybe your cards are formatted in ExFAT and maybe the Pixel 4 has no ExFAT driver built-in. Please ask Google how to see the filesystem format in Windows, and whether the Pixel 4 supports that format.
If that is the case, maybe this app can help.
So I dont really need it but it seems you do so I just tried something.
You can access a flash drive by mounting the drive with another app (I used this one, but I'm sure there are others that are completely free) and then accessing the drive with Total Commander.
:)
Edit: It actually seems to work without using the Paragon app by adding the flash drive as a custom location in Total Commander.
2nd edit: It even works in the built-in Files app now? Huh.
This happened with me too. The real issue was that the HDD was formatted to NTFS format and Android doesn't supports NTFS format till date
So what I did was I downloaded an app called NTFS BY PARAGON SOFTWARE
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
I plugged in my external 1 TB HDD to my tab S7 via a USB-C to USB-A OTG Cable and opened the Paragon App and clicked on 'mount' Hard Drive and IT WORKED
This app really works wonders
berapa TB hardisknya? format hardisknya apa?
gw dirumah juga tab kadang colok ke hardisk NTFS 2TB (ga berani ke yang 4TB, takut corrupt), tapi ditambah aplikasi tambahan ini
Can i ask how you connected your 500GB SSD to DeX ?
Have you used any app to enable Read/Write ? I tried a while ago to connect external WD 2TB HDD with help from exFAT/NTFS app Maybe by now this option changed.
You don't need to format, You can access NTFS and ExFAT HDD using Total Commander with this Plugin.
The battery indicator is basicly lying when below 15%. The phone will want to shut off early to save the battery from draining completely (which harms the battery) Also it's not recommended charging above 85% if there's no need for a completely full charge (which also harms the battery).
Shame on you for gaming on 8% charge in the first place.
there's no automatic shutting on and off, but you can use Modes and Routines to automate battery saving
You seem to be avoiding Google, but there's always this in the Play store. I've used it and it worked, albeit pretty slowly IMHO. Been a while, tho.
So I believe the issue is that Google doesn't pay the licensing fee or whatever to read EXFAT formatted devices .
Can you verify what the filesystem of your micro SD is?
Samsung devices can read these devices by default. For Pixels you can use this to mount the device properly.
You can use a few file managers but I had the most success with total commander.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
There could be two problems here.
1) I think that FireOS has a problem with recognising drives over a certain size. Even if they have the correct formatting. Not too sure on this, but might be an issue.
2) If it is formatted in exFat/NTFS it can't be read without an app to provide a licence
I use This app to provide the exfat and NTFS licence. And Total Commander as my file browser.
My favorite apps:
1. BlackHole (amazing music app, uses cdn servers from spotify and gaana, can also import playlists and download directly)
Bluecord
Bromite
CinemaHD, Pikashow, HDStreamz, Stremio (streaming apps, work great on android tv too)
F-Droid
Fritter (awesome twitter client)
Instander (i used to use Barinsta, but my account got ramelimited so i had to switch, this one is great too)
Material Files
Send Files to TV
Tracker Control (great app for blocking ads and trackers everywhere, and great tools too)
Youtube Vanced
Modded APKs:
Gcam
Solid Explorer (i would really recommend this for everyone, not only does it work great on tv and has themes, it has some really awesome plugins which can be downloaded easily, my favorite is the USB OTG plugin, it works like a charm. It recognizes all formats i would throw at it, and is miles better than the shit Paragon makes)
Truecaller
Just found out that there is a released apk driver to view NTFS. This should help l, tho I haven't tried it. Let us know if u use it.
Maybe my success through X-Plore was related to the fact that I have my external drive formatted with ExFAT, and the Google Pixels don't include ExFAT support, so I finally paid for exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software. I still accessed the data through X-Plore, just mounted through the Paragon app. Hopefully, the late January update fixes the issue for us, too.
If you've already formatted it then you're probably out of luck. If not, I found an app that lets me read basically any removable storage (I use SD cards from my DSLR, microSD from my dash cam, USB sticks, etc). This is the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro You might need to buy one of the supported extensions depending on the particulars of your SD card.
FAT32 is generally what all Android phones will recognize. It is up to the manufacturer if they want to add support for other file systems.
Depending on what you need the USB drive for you can try this app for accessing it (using alternate file systems):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
Also FWIW I use a USB drive formatted as exFAT on my Windows computers and it has been fine. It hasn't given me any issues.
I don't know if this is related to your issue, but I've found my Moto be easily mount ~8 GB exFAT drives while being unable to mount a 5 TB external harddrive which also is exFAT. It just keeps loading, being stuck at "Checking USB drive...". The exFAT/NTFS for USB app (v. 3.5.0.7) is however able to load the harddrive with ease, so it seems the default OTG system has some kind of size limitation.

You can try this app and see if it sees your ext4 formatted drive:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
However you are asking a lot to have a cross compatible file system and also full permission control.
Do you mean just one file that is 10GB? If so FAT32 is out of the question (it has a maximum file size of 4GB). Try formatting as exfat and see if your phone supports it. If not you can try using this app to access it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
I was able to power an SSD over one of the USB ports with a SATA/power cable, but it needs to be formatted to exFAT (NTFS not recognized). If you're like me and don't want to reformat all your drives, Paragon has an app to mount NTFS drives to be read by the Android filesystem. Once mounted it shows up in Total Commander without issue.
HDDs would probably work as well, but depending on the drive I wouldn't rely on the hub having enough power to spin them up.
Pixels don't natively support exFat :(
You can use something like this (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro) to copy stuff over anyway, but thats not gonna be nearly as fast as native kernel support.
You can access those files when your drive is in exFat, i have used an app called
exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon Software, you must pay for the format you want to read but i believe is a cheap pay to be able to use your drive without any formatting or change, hope it helps.
Stock android doesn't support exFAT, but One UI and Oxygen OS support exFAT.
The only option I can think of is this- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
Not foss, may not work.
I think you can just let the Pixel format it and it will then be FAT32.
Also if you prefer keeping your drive as exfat or NTFS then you can try an app like Paragon's:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
You will need to pay the IAP to unlock the filesystems though.
I used this one for NTFS drives (which are unsupported on the iPad). Be sure to test the trial option before purchasing. Technically FAT32 and exFAT should be usable on all platforms. And USB SD card adapters should work as well.
Your external hard drive is most likely formatted as NTFS, which Android does not support, which is why Android wants to format it so that it can be used. Android supports FAT32 and exFAT. You want exFAT because FAT32 can't support files larger than 4GB, which is a limitation if you want to keep 4k videos and other stuff that may have large file sizes.
There are two things you can do here.
You can probably try the custom OTG driver in MiXplorer ("Settings > More Settings > Enable OTG") (https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.mixplorer). It should be able to read/write exFAT. You can also try "exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro&hl=en_US) with Total Commander. Its custom driver can read/write exFAT and NTFS formatted USB drive in Total Commander. But it's not free.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
Previously, it had only a 7 days trial, after that the free version would completely stop working. I think they now offer a "freemium" version (you have to wait a few seconds before using it).
No worries hope it meets your needs.
Also if you have issues accessing any USB Sticks etc via a hub then you may need to install this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro for it to be recognised in you explorer apps
Same setup here. You'll need to install this driver, at first. After that, your phone will recognize and mount OP-1 exFat storage: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
Also that nice tool exists too: (then you don't need a driver, as i remember): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=app.metske.oputility
According to this review of the app, you also need another app called Total Commander.

Have you tried Total Commander? If not, try it and see if it works.
Hey man,
I did a little digging and i'm willing to help.
I'm gonna spell it out, correct me if i'm wrong on anything:
Your old Mp3 devices (Sandisk sport clip+) used a fat32 filesystem. As per their website, otg disk explorer pro only supports fat32.
Your new devices are most likely formatted in exFAT (maybe NTFS), hence the error you received on the android.
What you need is an 'OTG explorere pro equivalent that is compatible with exFAT and NTFS.
Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro&hl=en_CA
It's the same thing as the app you were using but it is compatible with NTFS and exFAT. It DOESN'T require root!
Let me know if it works!!
That's annoying. It appears that Philips has tried to minimize licensing fees to the point that they are crippling the product. I haven't seen a release of AndroidTV with NTFS support missing before.
You might be able to use the app by Paragon to add exFAT & NTFS support on non-rooted devices (link). I haven't used it before but hopefully that will be a usable workaround. I know some people used old versions with the "Total Commander" file manager, and it looks like this newer version supports X-plore also.
exFAT, a proprietary Microsoft format, is not natively supported on Google branded devices.
You'll need to search for a paid app that can mount & read exFAT-formatted OTG devices, and transfer its files onto your device's storage. This one seems to be popular, although I've never used it.
I used this app before on my S8 and it works though it disconnects the drive when switching to another app but I'm not sure if the dev fix that issue
Based on these tests, don't think there's any better choice other than using your TV's built-in media player or streaming over network.
There is one last possible fix. It's Total Commander with Paragon's Microsoft exFAT/NTFS for USB (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro&hl=en_US). I use this combination to write to NTFS drives connected to Mi Box because native driver only supports read. But Paragon's OTG driver is not free. You can Google it.
Yeah, it works great. I recommend using it (or any OTG adapter) with Nexus Media Importer or this plugin for Total Commander, so you can use NTFS with large file support. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
This worked for me https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
If you are using this, you need to use a supported file manager.
Android OS does not support NTFS natively.
Total Commander with the Paragon NTFS plugin - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro will allow you to read all petitions with full read/write access.
File system mounting app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
File manager: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander
It may affect it. You may want to try this app.
Yes but not if they're formatted in NTFS (Windows format). You'll need this virtual driver https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
I've been a heavy Apple user since the iPhone in 2007. Breaking out to Android and Windows had been a struggle, but I've learned to manage.
Because T-Mobile gave me free voice lines with data, I couldn't use the line or SIM card in an iPad mini, which was my first choice. So, I opted for a Duo at a slightly lesser price tag, and I don't regret the choice.
At home, I have a Mac mini running AirMessage. On my SD1, I have T-Mobile DIGITS with notifications for messages turned off. With this combo, I don't miss out on any phone calls or iMessage conversations. The only thing I miss out on it is direct FaceTime calls.
Because I still have my iPhone at all times, I simply set up a Chrome shortcut to iCloud.com. This keeps me logged in and access to Mail, Photos, iCloud Drive, Notes, Reminders, and Find My.
Where my Apple ecosystem incompatibility ends is where the Surface Duo (and the Android ecosystem) begins to really shine.
As a tech, I can use my Surface Duo as a monitor or screen for any device with an HDMI/DP port using my Genki ShadowCast. I plug it into headless servers or add it as a second screen to any laptop. I store and create bootable flash drives, right from my Duo. I can access flash drives and hard drives formatted as NTFS or exFAT, and use a real file manager that treats them as such. I set it up as an HTTP/FTP/SFTP server on the fly. I run all the available emulators on it, from TRS-80 to Nintendo DS to the Sega Dreamcast. I let it do multithreaded downloads in the background. But, most of all, I use it as a mini laptop with all the best Remote Desktop apps, like LogMeIn, AnyDesk, Citrix Workspace. To top it all off, I tweak the Android settings that would make the average iOS user's head spin, adding real robust widgets, turning on battery optimization, turning off background processes and network access, and customizing to only get certain notifications from each app. I enjoy asking more robust questions with Google that Siri could never answer correctly, and even have a quick Alexa shortcut to control my smart home.
It really is the best of both worlds when you learn to have them both.
Does is support exFat?
You might be able to add external USB support for NTFS/exFat with:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro&hl=en_US&gl=US
You can try this for file systems not natively supported by your phone:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
Download this app and then try to open the SSD through it
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
NTFS volumes on android can be accessed (R/W) by this App on play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro is such an application to mount NTFS filesystems.
Yeah , I suggest you try it first to see if it works for you. Can refund if it doesn't https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
Use this and nothing else for all external storage needs https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
You could try this app. It can mount an NTFS or exFAT drive through OTG. I had no issue copying to my 2TB hard drive. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
Pixels don't support exFAT, unfortunately.
I haven't used it, but you could try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro&hl=en_US
This app can read ntfs and exfat https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro It costs a bit money.
Here this works great. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
Maybe this could help:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro&hl=en_US
I also found this app in the play store. I never used it but you can try the free trial to see if it works.
What problem did you run into exactly?
If you can't even mount the 2nd USB drive, it's most likely because 2 drives are drawing too much power from that USB port on Mi Box. You'll need a powered USB hub.
If you can mount but can't write to the 2nd USB drive, there is a solution. exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro&hl=en_US) with Total Commander (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghisler.android.TotalCommander&hl=en_US) will allow you to write to USB drive (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76875182&postcount=17). I have tested this on my Mi Box. It does work with FAT32 and NTFS formatted USB drive. I can't get exFAT to work though.
Easy. Get the Paragon exFAT and NTFS plug-in for Total Commander.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
Yep, it can, but needs an add-on (made by Paragon): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro
If formatted as FAT32, turn on "Use X-plore USB driver" in X-plore. If formatted as exFAT, turn on "Enable OTG" in MiXplorer. To write to NTFS drive, use exFAT/NTFS for USB by Paragon (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paragon.tcplugins_ntfs_ro&hl=en_US) with Total Commander.
Don't write to harddrive with very important data with 3rd-party USB OTG driver unless you already backed up everything. There's always the risk of data corruption.
