Shuttle/Shuttle+ Music Player was updated to v1.5.3 today.
It's been a long time since I've posted here! I've just completed my postgraduate masters degree, so I have more time, meaning development is ramping up with Shuttle.
If you don't know Shuttle, it's a simple, intuitive, material design music player, packed with features. There's automatic artwork downloading, tag editing, gapless playback, theming, folder browsing, chromecast support, and tons more.
The latest update brings some UI improvements, including a freshly designed queue and artist/album screen, and a completely redesigned artwork caching/loading system. I've fixed a bunch of memory leaks, and reduced the total memory footprint of the app by over half!
You can check out the free version (with an option to upgrade via IAP) here and the paid version here
The paid version gets you additional themes, folder browsing and chromecast support.
Note: Shuttle is not a cloud player, and is not capable of playing music download via Play Music.
There's a lot of options for music players on Android. Google Play Music is pretty good, and it can play local files, not just the stuff on Google Play. You can also try Shuttle, which is one of the best designed apps I've seen on Android, period.
As for the USB File Transfer thing, yes, you need to manually switch to file transfer mode when you connected to a computer. It's a security precaution to avoid exposing the files on your phone to the computer without your explicit permission. You don't have to switch it through developer settings though - you can just tap the "USB charging" notification to change the mode.
Do you mean shuttle?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
which is my favorite.
or do you really mean shuffle:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=one.shuffle.app
I use Shuttle, its seems to be the best one i've tried. It can get all of your album art for you and has a built in last.fm scrobbler which is nice
With a lot of Android phones you definitely have the benefit of being able to store music on an external SD card so that it's independent of the phone. I mostly stream music, but for the music I can't stream it's as simple as plugging the SD card into my computer, dragging over all the files I want to listen to, then pointing my music app (Shuttle) to the proper directories on the card.
I don't know about syncing music. I never dot hat shit. I'm the type of guy who likes to do everything by hand.
I think the solution is honestly more beyond just "Fuck Google and migrate" - we really do need to heed /r/stallmanwasright and start rolling our own solutions instead of relying on corporate-created ones. My brother and I are attempting to make use of my huge FTP server as a streaming media replacement, using a combination of Shuttle and a few other tools. Run that off of a little pi-controlled NAS, broadcast it... I mean, it's way more fiendishly complicated than any layperson would be interested in, but if we want to control our content, we kind of have to take the reins into our hands.
You are missing everything.
Unlike iPhones, you don't have to deal with the mess that is called iTunes or anything similar. Change your mindset with Android: treat your phone like a flashdrive, put whatever music and videos (or even weird unsupported documents) on it, and your apps will automatically search for them to display appropriately.
On Windows, it's as easy as plugging in your phone and your phone's internal storage will show up similarly to a camera or flashdrive.
Since you're on Mac, you'd have to deal with the fact that Apple intentionally makes your life difficult when you have one device out of the ecosystem. Get the Android File Transfer app here, install it, and your phone will show up similarly to Linux and Windows once plugged in.
From there on, throw your mp3s or FLACs into the music folder of your phone's internal storage. Your music app will detect whatever you have and show up.
Shuttle Music Player is a very popular alternative to Google Music. The premium version is $1, which is extremely underpriced for what it has been offering.
And if all else fails, yes, AirDroid works certainly. Shoot your mp3s and Flacs to the music folder, as mentioned above.
I think Shuttle Music Player needs a mention too.
I like shuttle player which seems to fit perfectly to what you require: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
It also has a reddit page: https://www.reddit.com/r/shuttle
I use Shuttle Music Player, it's the nicest free player I know of. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player&hl=en_US
...But I'm not sure what you consider bloat and what you consider bare-bones. This does have extra features available from the menu (sleep timer, equalizer) and the player does display album art, though you can disable the artwork if you want.
The Oneplus 6 doesn't come with a music player built in. You can use streaming services like Apple Music, Spotify, Google Play Music, and other to stream music. To listen to music you've stored on your device you'll have to download an app form the Play Store. I suggest Shuttle.
My go to music app is Shuttle, it can use album artist tags and it's material design. The only music app that I've found that has both.
I've been using Shuttle player, it's pretty good.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player&hl=en_GB
Also, Automatic Tag Editor.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fillobotto.mp3tagger&hl=en_GB
Which phone is it? Go to settings > Apps > Default apps > choose your default music app. (Steps might be different for your device. But It should be under apps/installed apps.)
You can also install any new music player app. For example shuttle music player. Open it and play songs from it.
try shuttle, to me its polished wonderfuly, it looks amazing, it has tons of features, and if you dont like it, no harm done. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player&hl=en
Shuttle Music Player, imo the best one, very nice design.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
Phonograph, one of the best looking one, stopped using it because updates were really rare, but as i heard Phonograph is now open source and updates come more frequently.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kabouzeid.gramophone
The remasters sound better (as they should) — more dynamic range, clearer details in the sound, et cetera, but if you're not paying close attention these might get lost to you.
The difference between mp3s and FLACs on Android is a lot more negligible, though — you might want to invest in a separate DAC if you want really high-quality sound. I do know that Shuttle supports gapless playback.
The most minimalist I've come across was definitely Shuttle.
Otherwise I highly recommend BlackPlayer. The widgets are not as nice as Shuttle imo, but it's a really great music player anyways. You might need to buy this one to be able to change the color of the widgets though.
Shuttle (at least Shuttle+) has "Play Next" and "Add To Queue" features as you describe.
Add to queue adds song to the end of the current playlist, play next adds it just after the current song. Order is reversed though, but you can reorder really quick
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
it's possible that the music player you are using has no scrubbing feature. If you're gonna look for a 3rd party one I would suggest this one.
I had the same problem. After some searching, my solution was to install 'Shuttle', open any sound file on your device, set 'Shuttle' as the default audio player ('always') and go in the settings of 'Shuttle' > Bluetooth> Disable 'resume on connect' (loosely translated). Nothing starts playing randomly anymore. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
As a minimal user interface you could take a look at shuttle.
I consider it a good example of minimal, but still functional interface.
Here's a great open-source one that is often recommended by the Android community:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player&hl=en_US
No ads, but does have an optional $1.49 IAP for some additional features. I get that the Samsung one is simple and all, but if this really bothers you, stop using it until they fix it. They can see the usage of their apps go down from this kind of stuff.
Shuttle Music Player is developed and maintained by me. It's had over 5 million downloads!
I've been working on building a follow up from scratch for the last 18 months or so.
It's very hard to find time. Shuttle is definitely falling by the wayside at the moment, with new sets of bugs introduced with every Android release.
Can you try this free music app and see if it does that too? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
I have a few albums in a AAC format, and since I will be trying Android 10 soon, I'd love to know the situation beforehand :)
Basically what I'm doing. I'm already a huge Plex user, but I don't really use it for music much. At this point, I've got a 128Gb phone and I remote into my main machine eough where I'll probably just switch over to using Plex on my computer, and probably Shuttle or Pulsar on my phone - just cram every file onto the phone. Fuck it.
I dunno, man. RIP the entire Play brand, there'll only be two apps left in the media ecosystem at that point. Just Books and Movies.
I forgot how terrible the upgrade to Music was on iOS 10. I usually prefer to use stock apps for the integration even if there are better third party apps. I also don't like having two of every app, with stock apps buried in a junk folder on the last page.
I recently switched to the Galaxy S8 after 6 years of the iPhone and, although I do miss some elements of iOS, it's nice to have more choice. If you do jump ship, I highly recommend giving Shuttle a go.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
It's called Shuttle.
The tags that are missing are all track numbers and some albums have no tags at all, it will display the file names instead.
I'm using the stock rom on the Moto G5 Plus (XT1685) and the problem didn't occur on a custom rom. Please note that I've had this problem way before I even unlocked my device and unlocking/rooting a device doesn't void the warranty where I live (the Netherlands). I'll PM you the IMEI right now.
I was struggling with getting playlists to work too. In the end I was able to make it work by creating the playlist through Shuttle Music Player.
Shuttle seems to get a lot of attention as a great music player. It also supports FLAC. I haven't tried it but I will and I'll let you know how it works.

*Edit huh does this bot not work anymore? Anyway https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
DupeGuru in music mode will find the duplicates: https://www.hardcoded.net/dupeguru/
The folders part of Shuttle+ will allow you to delete music: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
After trying out various music player, I decided to stick with Shuttle. But I would recommend that you install many types of music players first and see which one you like the best.
The gif looks a lot like Shuttle, though the screenshots in the app store have a tile view instead of list.
Have you ever used Shuttle before? I'm gonna check out GoneMad, but was just wondering if you had tried them both out.
Maybe try a free 3rd part music app like Shuttle? I know Shuttle gives you the option to have the lock screen album art. I've only tried it on 4.4.4 though, so not on a new update.
>No widgets on lockscreen. No more music controls on my lockscreen. That's been replaced with damn notifications.
When I use Google Play Music, a notification comes up that lets me pause the song and go to the next/previous song. Shuttle Music Player does the same thing.
It's been a while since I've posted a Shuttle update. In fact this is probably the longest time between releases in Shuttle's 6 year history!
For those who don't know it, Shuttle is an open source local music player for Android. It's for the old fashioned among us who don't want to pay for music streaming, don't have the bandwidth, or just know exactly what they want to listen to and have the disk space to store it. It plays your music, downloads artwork for you, allows you to edit tags, artwork, make playlists, Chromecast and a whole bunch of other stuff, wrapped up in what I think is a simple, intuitive and modern interface.
Shuttle started out as a hobby for me to teach myself programming. I was getting into reddit around the same time, and announced it on /r/Android. Since then it's grown to over 4 million downloads and helped me change careers and become a full time software developer.
Here's a picture of what Shuttle used to look like (and another).
Somehow, I've managed to get much better at coding while also raiding my standards just enough to feel like I never get anything done. In the last 6 months, besides travelling to Europe and planning a wedding, I've managed to keep chipping away at Shuttle. I've done a lot of work which didn't actually make it into this release, including a few attempts to completely overhaul the playback engine - most of which was scrapped and restarted, and remains in progress. What I did get done though, is:

Shuttle Been using it as my music player since 2014. Functions well, and looks beautiful.
Try Shuttle, GoneMad Music Player, and Phonograph.
Shuttle music player. It's really straight forward so that's why I'm a fan.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
You should try out Shuttle. It's what I used when I stopped using Poweramp
I use Shuttle (Shuttle+ because I liked it enough). I don't fuck with the equalizer though.
Edit: Just noticed the gear icon in the equalizer goes to this (Android OS Settings I think):
I've switched back to Shuttle. I like the modern UI and the actually functional blacklist feature.
Phonograph's been my daily driver for a long time. I really appreciate a dev that takes the time to really nail the little aesthetic touches, and Phonograph's use of selective colors is unmatched by any other player out there. Sadly, it isn't as snappy as, say, Shuttle, but hopefully some progress can be made there now that it is open source.
As for alternatives... Shuttle is another fantastic option which just had a huge overhaul get pushed to the beta channel. It's a massive rework of the UI, which feels just as good as the old while still being very light and performs well. Quite a lot of bugs at the moment, but that won't be a problem by the time it hits stable.
Retro Music is underappreciated, but the psudo-iOS/Material hybrid design is something that a lot of Material fans find a little garish. It's still a little crash happy on my phones, but if you're looking for something different that has just as much personality as Phonograph, it's worth a look!
Lastly, Style Music recently hit public beta. The downside is that it costs money upfront to use, which is going to be a huge hurdle for adoption, but the dev is very active, so I'm hoping they stick with it and make a solid case for themselves. It has its own little quirks that set itself apart from other players, and has the potential to become one of the most beautiful Material players available. It's still early on, so I can't say for sure if it's worth the cost over Phonograph, Shuttle, or other players.
I personally use Shuttle Music Player.
Shuttle Music Player Free
Shuttle is really good https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
So this is a wallpaperless theme. I used my music widget and scaled it to full screen size.
List of used apps and such:
Making the sidebars is real easy: just make two extra pages each on different sides of your homepage, then create an empty Zooper widget panel. Make it as wide or high as you personally want and drop them like this: for the left page set the widget at the left side of the screen and for the right page on the right side. Set the scroll effect to 'wipe' so it seems like they are actual sidebars.
I like Shuttle. It's got a nice widget as well. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player
Shuttle does this.
According to Shuttle (free version) page: ID3 tag editing, Folder browsing, Chromecast support, Extra themes.
I tried this in the past but still stuck with Shuttle+, but for $1, may as well add it to the collection.
I use Shuttle

I've been using Shuttle for a while now and I love it.
Not sure, but Shuttle should have this
I'm using Shuttle, it's really clean and simple, has a built in EQ, and it's pretty light.
I haven't used it in a while, so I'm not sure.. I think it does. There's a Free version for you to try.
Looks almost the same as Shuttle
I believe Shuttle has a folder view like you describe
The one I hear most about is Shuttle, but doing a quick search gives me these other good ones. I haven't used any of them, but they have good ratings :)
EDIT: I've also heard good things about Poweramp. Here's doubleTwist in case you want to try that one out. Cool thing about Android is that there are many choices for you to pick from, so dig in and explore!
Shuttle Music Player has really nice customizable music widgets, definitely worth checking out
I really like Shuttle
Shuttle, hands down... it's awesome
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=another.music.player&hl=en
Shuttle is pretty good, but doesn't support folder browsing in the free version.
If you have your own music library, I recommend Shuttle.
Shuttle Music Player from Play Store.

Or try one from F-Droid.
Sorry it's shuttle. here's the link
I swear by Shuttle Music
Surprised no one mentioned it, I'm using Shuttle, which is also FOSS.
You will have google photos for gallery & Google play music for music player functionality. Go to settings > Apps > Installed apps/system apps. You will find those apps.
Easy way : If you can't find it them, You can go to play store & search for it.
Alternatively you can install these apps.
Shuttle or Pulsar music player - For music player
F-stop or Foto gallery - For gallery app.
These apps are better than default gallery & music apps.

If you download music directly into your phone, I recommend either shuttle or Poweramp. Poweramp hasn't been updated in forever (there is allegedly a new version coming soon), and it's a paid app, but the current beta version is simply the best music player I've ever used.

Just the default widget for Shuttle.
I'm using Fox for Zooper for the clock/weather/date widget.
I've tried many players but keep coming back to shuttle. Whitelist and blacklist folders.
Shuttle Player. They seem kinda similar. Just turn all colors to black and it will also look the same.

Give Shuttle Music Player a shot. It's pretty slick, and it works fine in Nougat's multi-window implementation
Shuttle Music Player as an alternative to Music Player.
