This app Tunity might help. It scans the TV for what channel it is on then plays the audio over your phone. Great for anywhere you can see, but not hear a TV. You can use headphones with it to make it the most effective.
I believe I learned about this app in one of the Saturday APPreciation threads. It's called Tunity, and it lets you scan the image on a tv, and then it will find the audio of whatever the TV is playing and stream it through your phone's speakers. I used it to get the audio for a football game at a sports bar this weekend, and it worked pretty much perfectly.
I imagine since both devices are Samsung that they adjust as needed. Like, if phone audio is 100ms behind, the TV video would just put for 100ms.
There's an app called Tunity that lets you listen to TV audio (depending content/area of course), sometimes the app instructs you to pause your TV to account for delay. I'd guess Samsung just handles the pausing automatically.
Oh let me just make your life a bit better.

Go to any bar that has the game sound on. That is what brings the money and that is what they will play with sound. Then use Tunity on your phone to play the sound from the TV without sound and your phone will play the audio from that TV.

I think I've got you! It's on apple as well.
I've wanted something like this for so long! (my favorite bar will always set me up with one of the big tvs no matter what, but if there's a home-ish team playing any sport at the same time I don't get the projector and volume.)
I can't believe it took someone else suggesting it for me to google it, lol! I'll try it out this evening!

Sports fan that used to travel for work and spent many hours in "sports bars" that had music playing and not one tv with sound on ever even if it was big ntl game.
It works. I loved it. Sometimes took a little playing with to sync the sound with the tv.
try it. you will like it. Headphones. that app, charged battery and you are good to go. You can get most any ba rto put on the game without sound. You dont care, brought your own and it doesnt bother anyone else.
Sorry this response is kind of late. I use android but I've had kind of the same problem. That's why I read through your post and the responses. Basically, I'm too cheap to buy a soundbar with a remote for the tv in my bedroom. This is a sofware fix it works for some LIVE tv channels. There is an app called Tunity that will run the audio from a live television channel through your phone. It was made so if you're in a sports bar and watching a game on one of their TV's that has the sound muted it will figure out what channel it is by comparing the image from your camera and comparing it to all the channels it has audio for and then play the audio through your phone. For all my ANDROID brethren that was the link to check it out. For the OP they do have it on the Apple store as well. This isn't a perfect solution as it only works with live TV playing on the firestick and only on some channels at that, but it's better than nothing.
I use this app called Tunity in my gym, try it first in your phone to see if you like it. The bad thing is it would require good internet connection on phone and you would need to re-scan it every time she changes channels.

Tunity, it allows you to listen to live TV.
I usually use it when I'm at the gym but most time I use it when I'm at a Sports Bar watching MMA. I've used once or twice to listen to my muted TV when I didn't want it to wake my offspring.
You could try using Tunity and see if it works.
It's an app that will stream the audio from a muted TV. You point the camera at the TV for a second, it finds the channel, and then streams the audio to your phone and you could listen with headphones or something.
Someone on reddit linked me to this recently, might be of some use.

In the States, they use this app called Tunity to stream audio from TV channels. I just found out it works here too! Download the app and you have a list of channels that you can choose from - just click the one you want- so you can choose a news channel. I like listening to the baseball games

Doesn't work the way you describe but Tunity basically offers that functionality.
If you want to be "that guy", you could always download this to listen to TV anywhere.
If tunity is available in Australia, you can listen to it on phone.
