" Of course, while the rising rates of professed secularity in the Arab-Muslim world are new, the roots of such secularism run deep. Very deep. Many centuries deep. Despite the fact that many people erroneously associate Islam with nothing but religious fundamentalism, the historical fact is that skepticism, rationalism, and humanism have been long-entrenched within Arabic-Muslim history. "

If there was no punishment for apostasy, secularism would have taken over the Arab world by now.
When I got divorced ABS left Islam back in 2001 I got dogs. I have always explained it as "I traded up".
As a former pit owner, please socialize that pup. The term is, ironically, "bomb proof". Get her so rock solid on being pulled, poked, messed with while eating, having treats taken away, anything a child might do, that she can handle whatever situation she's in like it's nothing. Really this applies to every dog.
Also with her coat type you need a kong zoom groom. I've tried the knock offs, the rubber is different and I don't like them as much. The real ones aren't too pricey. She is gorgeous!
Biologically it comes from the avoidance of cuckoldry and ensuring that your genes are the ones passed on to her offspring. Also the same rational for the suppression of women from society at large - so that you don’t inadvertently end up raising someone else’s child. If she can’t speak to men and has only had sex with you, then you can be certain it’s your child.
Incredibly primitive. Check out Alpha God by Hector Garcia for more on this stuff. It’s fascinating. https://www.amazon.com/Alpha-God-Psychology-Religious-Oppression/dp/1633880206
The secret is to agree that yes we are all a bunch of harami's who all this time just wanted a bit of that delicious pork pie....while in the shadows we work to spread the truth and dismantle the tyrant that is Islam.
They will never see us coming, they will think we are too drunk to function and are too busy stuffing our faces with haram haribos and beef jerky to ever be a force to be reckoned with.

I'm glad you appreciated it. I merely found the piece, it is not mine. You can contact the author via private message on Quora. Note that she did specifically tag it as "Not for Reproduction" at the end of the post. Perhaps you could link to it and paraphrase. I would also recommend searching through Quora as it may prove to be a font of such personal stories.
You may enjoy reading some responses to Is it my right as a Muslim man to force my wife to wear a hijab?
Changing the locks is expensive. It is about the same price as purchasing a new locking doorknob and deadbolt.
May I suggest that you pick up a Kwikset Smart Key lock combo?
It makes it simple to rekey your locks yourself, as often as you want, to any housekey you wish.
You could GIVE them a key, and then make sure it only works when YOU want it to work.

Please consider using Tor if you don't have a VPN. It comes pre-packaged with a version of firefox that offers better privacy guarantees. If you use a VPN on a shared computer, be sure to always use a privacy mode to not leave any traces locally. It is a pain as it forces you to type passwords and forget bookmarks but it is the price of security.
About "coming out" as an atheist, the FAQ on /r/atheism has a bit more detailed advice it sums it up as "The best place to come out to your parents is at a home you own, over a dinner that you paid for yourself"
> anyone familiar with doxing will know how it works
My advice to prevent doxing is to imagine a fake identity and to "inadvertently" leak fake information about it. Pretend you are still a student, or pretend you have kids, pretend you are from another country (that you know), etc... Do not post pictures you have taken yourself. Not at all. Title : A TURKISH WOMAN’S EUROPEAN IMPRESSIONS
Description (from amazon):
>Zeyneb Hanoum (who died c. 1923) and her sister Melek fled Turkey in 1906, at a time when women's freedom was severely restricted. This book, first published in 1913, is a collection of letters written by Zeyneb to her friend, feminist journalist Grace Ellison. As well as discussing the political situation in Turkey, Hanoum compares the life of Turkish women with their European counterparts and presents a more balanced view of real harem life. Witty and forthright, the author shares her opinions on strange Western phenomena such as tennis, snobbery and the poor quality of English food. She also offers views on the suffragette movement and muses on the freedoms enjoyed by women in the West. The author's outsider status provides fascinating insights into European culture and such diverse experiences as tea at the House of Commons and bullfighting. This remains an entertaining and touching travelogue from a unique viewpoint.
As you can see, the book has the advantage of being free and available on the Gutenberg website. I believe a first hand account of the status of women under the late Ottoman empire, a taste of how Islamic custom were implemented in this country at that time, in the context of a situation in which many muslims are currently migrating to Europe, make this book quite topical in spite of the fact that it takes place in an era long (but not too long) gone.
I suspect that, by the end of this book, we would all be better informed about the ways in which Islam actually impacted (and may still impact) the status on women in society. The book has the advantage of taking us out of abstract considerations and fuzzy hypothetical. We will have concrete facts to rely on.
Not sure how it is in the rest of the Muslim world, but speaking of Saudi Arabia the culture of reading, and thus public libraries, is almost non-existent. TV preacher and rabble-rouser Ahmad Al Shugairi actually made an episode about it. He set it out on a mission to find a public library in the city of Jeddah (Saudi Arabia's second biggest city). After a long goose chase he found it, and it was thins dingy old building that was so disused that the employees in there were asleep.
Here's a video, he finds it at around 11:04

also "Arab Scientists" born and raised in Baghdad.. They were not Arab! most Iranian scholars of the time accepted Arabic as the language of their scientific and philosophic works and thus wrote in Arabic, the legacy of Iran today, is at times erroneously attributed to Arabs. It is to Persia that belongs the the notable names such as Khwarizmi, Razi, Beruni, Haitham, Khayyam. The irony is that the Persians who were never considered to be good muslims by Arabs, are suddenly Islamic scholars.

Prometheus also created mankind from clay and water. Therefore, Greek mythology is true. The dozens of other creation myths that exist throughout mankind's history must also be true. Unfortunately, Islam does not hold creative license over the 'man from clay' theme. Many other civilisations got there long before Islam. I dare say, that the author/s of the Quran were aware of these myths too.
I was there too, initially....I couldn't sit through a university lecture without being distracted by the thought that, 'If life has no meaning, and when I die all just fades to black, what's the point of all of this? what am I doing here? why bother with school?'
What you need to do is embark on an intellectual journey of self-enhancement. Be it philosophy, cosmology, psychology--whatever; seek out and internalize the perspectives that'll imbue your life with greater meaning. For me, it was the book 'Man's Search for Meaning' that helped me along my way.
Freedom is much more than a mental construct. It takes guts to be free and perhaps even faith, although faith in yourself. Freedom is something that needs to be learned.
It is actually perfectly normal to be afraid of freedom, because the rules change, you make the rules now and nothing becomes more important than yourself. I met dozens of young people who go through that phase and it's scary for all of them. That fear is a good sign. The fear just means that there is something that you don't know how to face it. But you also have courage. And courage is just acting despite of fear. As the saying goes, courage is to feel the fear and do it anyway.
Be thankful for your fear, I know it sounds contradictory, but it is the first sign that you are on the right track. You will have a beautiful life.
There is no evidence that Muhammad was illiterate. In fact, the evidence strongly points to his being literate. After all, if he indeed was a merchant who had to run Khadijah's business, it is very likely that he could read and write at least to some extent.
According to Western (non-Muslim) scholarship, the understanding of the term ummi (as used in the Qur'an) to mean illiterate almost certainly came about much later as a result of sectarian disputes. See the following article, as an example, by the British scholar of Islam Norman Calder where he explains the usage of that term in early Islamic sources to show why it can't mean 'illiterate'. https://www.scribd.com/document/110960365/The-Ummi-in-Early-Islamic-Juristic-Literature

>Apparently female infanticide was rampant in pre-Islamic Arabia
Arabia in pre-Islamic was a diversity place. Remember there was 360 idols of different Gods before Mo smashed them all. It depended on which tribal but in some woman had more right than man. Khadijah, Mo's first wife was a rich widow and Mo had to work for her until her death. You can know more about pre-Islamic Arabia by reading this book.

>Govind Narayans account of the 1851 riots bears quotation in extenso: On 17 October 1851, the Mussalmans of Mumbai rioted at ten in the morning. The reason was as follows. A newspaper named Chitradyanadarpan was published by a Parsi; every issue contained a write-up of famous people with illustrations. In one of the issues, he wrote a small profile of the Prophet Mohammad and published a drawing along with it. The picture of Mohammad was shoddily executed and a drop of ink on one of his eyes seemed to have blinded him in one eye. This picture was stuck on the door of the Jumma Masjid one Friday morning by a trouble-maker. When the Mussalmans emerged from the mosque after their Namaz around eleven in the morning, they were incensed by this caricature of their Prophet. Believing that a Parsi wanted to insult their Prophet, they decided to exact revenge. Hundreds of Mussalmans, screaming Deen Deen, rushed with clubs in their hands to wreak havoc on the Parsis. If they saw a Parsi on the roads, they clubbed him besides injuring many other bystanders. A couple of Portuguese were injured in the Camp Maidan. They could not be controlled by the policemen. Looting broke out in the Bazaar and shopkeepers shut their shops and ran helter-skelter. The Parsis were very frightened and many of them ran into their houses and bolted their doors. Gangs of Mussalman rioters roamed the streets. The citys kotwal tried to stop the riots but things did not cool down. The army was called in and stationed at various places and the number of police personnel was increased. On the chowk near the market, a small body of troops was stationed for a month. The rioting and destruction went on for over a month. In those days, children and women feared to venture out. The Parsis were much affected.

> Imagine a contest in which the prize is omnipotence. There are two competitors in this contest. The first competitor hopes to win the prize and use his omnipotence for the good of humanity. He intends to bring peace, justice, and happiness to the entire world. The second competitor hopes to win the prize and use his omnipotence for his own selfish, nefarious purposes. He plans to slaughter most of humanity and force the rest to live in excrement pits where they will work themselves to death as his slaves and be subject to torture at his hand for his amusement. As it happens, the second competitor wins the contest and becomes omnipotent. It seems clear that the worst has happened – a thoroughly vicious being has become all-powerful and the world is on the verge of being plunged into evil. Fortunately, this does not happen. This is because the first use to which the winner puts his newly acquired omnipotence is to change certain ethical facts. He makes it the case that the slaughter of innocents is fantastically good, that undeserved suffering is just, and that a human life devoted to serving him has the greatest possible amount of internal meaning. He also makes it the case that he himself is a morally perfect being. He does this not by changing the nature of his character (his desires, motives, goals, and so on are just the same as before), but rather by changing the nature of moral perfection. He then implements his now fantastically good and just plan. He slaughters most of the humans, throws the rest into the pits, and so on. But, because he changed the ethical facts first, the story has a happy ending. All is for the best. The film version of this scenario would leave you grinning like a fool as you left the theater.

Please do not speak for all women in Islam thanks.
As a woman in Islam, I DID feel hated and discriminated against. And that also was one of the reasons why I lost my faith/left the religion.
Misogyny can also mean a dislike or prejudice towards women, or in other definitions where it means "hatred" of women, that hatred can be manifested in different ways including a discrimination against women.
http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/misogynist
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Misogyny
I, and many others here think that Islam - the religion itself, not every single person who follows the religion - does fit that definition. We are not talking about individual men and women here, we are talking about Islam itself. You are of course entitled to believe that the religion is not misogynistic but we are just as entitled to believe that it is.
If you want to see hatemongers, go to some muslim forums and read how they celebrate and/or justify the killings. Hatered of gays is common among muslims. Perhaps you should read this
The sun sets in a muddy spring can and will be dismissed as "metaphorical" or similarly handwaved with other apologetics, especially by a scholar.
A much stronger argument, which they can't refute with mental gymnastics, would be the logical errors in the Surah Like It Challange. I'd highly recommend you read through the linked piece, as this argument not only diminishes the Qur'an but also invalidates the Surah Challenge itself - an apologist strongpoint.
You're remarkably well spoken for 15, and by all appearances have the wits you'll need to evade detection. I'm unsure if trying to convince friends is a good idea, and it is not only your parents who will react badly if you don't pretend to "outgrow" your disbelief in the coming years...you may also have much to fear from local authorities and other Muslims in your area.
I was like you at 15, and it felt dirty and wrong to lie to people I cared about. But the fact of the matter is that they demand you lie to them and punish you if you do not, so they do not deserve truth from you.
If you are determined to help your friends and are not deterred by the danger to yourself, here are some materials you should read that will be helpful.

Learn philosophy and just figure shit out. That's what I'm currently doing. I am entirely disgusted at how some atheists have fallen to moral relativism. They have become cowards unable to make moral judgments.
Don't think of atheism as the final stage. Read and contemplate the moral and ethical questions that you have. Don't fall into this trap where being an atheist means you have everything figured out.
Try "A History of Western Philosophy" by Bertrand Ruselll if you're a beginner to philosophy.
I quite enjoyed Capitalism and Freedom by Milton Friedman, the main idea is that economic freedom is a necessary, but not sufficient precondition for political freedom.
Which is why I view the recent changes allowing Saudi women to work very positively.
One of the unfortunate side effects of being brave is loneliness.
But it's fairly easy to overcome once we figure out how. First we have to realize that you feel this way because the religion has completely defined your life. It is how you have related with others and it has defined how you've been treated. Without that, you feel an emptiness, basically a sense of loss of identity. So what we have to do is fill that emptiness with things that you love. Do you like to read? Now you have all the time in the world to join a book club and make friends. Do you like to hike? Same thing. Now I know you are saying its not that easy. But it is. Just go on meetup.com and see what types of meetups are there for hobbies you are interested in. See if there is a subreddit for where you live where people do meetups. And don't forget that this right here is a community also. It's a place for you to be able to vent and complain and learn and make friends.
Don't be sad :)

You can, after configuring the proxy settings. Note however that it is shitty for a reason: a lot of the bells and whistles make it easier to track you. Tor's firefox deactivate cookies of all kinds, flash players (which also can create cookies and have bad information leakage) it even takes the extreme measure of blocking javascript by default (which makes a lot of sites unusable but is deactivable manually per-site).
Understand that internet as it is now was not designed with privacy in mind. If you want to use all the flash applications, all the JS, have all the cookies and cross-site tracking features activated, using a VPN will only protect you from the most clumsy of the attackers.
For instance, if you want to access a forum that you consider hostile, and whose administrators may want to track you, using a VPN will cover your IP if all you do is to access it in pure HTML. But if you allow even just Javascript, they can put a script into place that will force your browser to reveal its local IP. If you allow flash I believe it is even easier than that.
If you want strong anonymity, you have to accept to use mainly raw texts and images and to only selectively activate javascript on sites you trust.
PRIVACY:
get the TOR browser and use that to browse. You can put it on a USB drive and run it from that, or install it in an obscure directory and run it from there. No cookies, no browser history, no tracks.
Use http://www.cluffle.com/ it makes reddit look like google.
I find it interesting that the majority of muslim Americans voted conservative in 2000. consrevitives actually had a minority that voted for them in the US. After 9/11, Bush didn't play his cards right, he was emotional, and he said things that made Republicans lose the muslim vote. He did try to fix it later by saying that christians and muslims worship the same god, but after the Iraq war, that ship has sailed.
Muslims were most likely to vote conservative. When it comes to civil rights, a guy like Huckabee is more likely to appeal for conservative muslims. However, giving the current foreign issues, I'd say muslims will more likely vote for the left in the US.
In summary, I agree, conservative muslims are more likely to vote for the conservative that's regressive when it comes to civil rights. However, today, that's not enough for someone like Huckabee to win the muslim vote. You can thank Bush for that I guess.
Rest assured those hadith are genuine. Sunnah.com is a well known website, and is probably the most popular source for the Six Books online. Hoyland is a great scholar of history and I like his writing. He also wrote Seeing Islam as Others Saw It, in which he examines the literature written right before and during the initial Islamic conquests. It's difficult to read in some respects because it's written more for academic who have access to scholarly journals and libraries (plus his organization is also a little jumpy), but the information is cool. It'll give you a sour view of the Christian institutions around that time and also highlight how difficult it is to be confident of information from Late Antiquity, but he manages to extract good information about Islam at its advent.
Thats hilarious. I laughed as much as when I read the part about bathing in Meditations by Marcus Aurelius . Tried looking for the specific quote but can't find it.
If you guys are looking for a great book to replace the Quran I'd recommend that book. I started reading it after I left Christianity.
I guess I sort of alluded to it in my OP. In hindsight, I've realized it was mostly a way of disassociating myself with my upbringing. Not that I hate my father; I don't. But I was basically trying to assert my individuality, I think, and rejecting the faith of my youth was part of it. The trigger that got me on the road to conversion was reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X, to be honest. There was a lot in the book that spoke to me at the time. Eventually, I started my own family and that forced me to grow up. I finally returned to the faith I knew as a child, only this time with eyes wide open as a man. It was the person of Jesus I re-met through the Gospels that brought me home, so to speak.
I don't know if that answers your question.
Here is a pdf of all eclipses that happened between 496 and 905. Quite a few occurred in Arabia while Mo was preaching.

You'll also have to research local laws about VPN use. Is it legal?

Science did continue to flourish for some time in the Middle East after the Ottoman conquest, though the West caught up to them by that time with the rise of universities, Renaissance humanism, the scientific revolution of the 16th and 17th century, beginning of scientific publishing etc. So they needed to go an extra mile to stand out and I guess the requisite elements needed for that just weren't there anymore.
I'm not well-versed in reasons for why that then carried over into modernity, but here's a nice long article about it that you might be interested in. There's also a book that deals with this subject.
Make sure to let him know that if he touches you against your will again, you will take a pair of scissor in the night while he is sleeping, and castrate him (don't do this of course, just threaten him). Make sure to have a cover story as for why you refuse to marry him, a cover story that would destroy his reputation if you were to spread it as a rumor - make him fear you.
Insist upon him telling your parents that he refuses to marry you, and if he doesn't you will tell the police that you saw him insult the prophet.
If he still comes after you physically, tell your parents about the fact that he forces you. But so as to make sure that they don't brush it of as his "right" to your body or some nonsense like that, tell them that he has forced you to performe unislamic sex act. Such as him urinated on you for sexual pleasure, or something equally disgusting. Cry while telling such a story, if you can't do that on command make sure to cut up unions in a different rome before (through away the unions so that it can't be found by your parents) and then come into the rome with tears in your eyes - saying "mom, dad, I need to talk to you about something that is really difficult to talk about".
If you have a smartphone, you can download this app for free to performe hidden audio recordings: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kimcy929.secretvideorecorder&hl=en_US
When the risk of him attacking you comes up, activate the recording. Make sure to make your resistance loud and clear for the recording. Scream and cry. So that if you play it for police or your parents - they will realise how horrible it is for you to be forced in this way.
He is a rapist, ordinarily I would not advice you to lie - but this situation is extreme.
techie here. if you're using a shit free VPN, any government can easily ask them to give them your IP address(free VPNs usually log your IPs and sell them or give them to governments) if you're using a paid VPN i.e. TorGuard, IPVanish, AirVPN, Private Internet Access(the one I use), etc. it will probably not log your IP address, but some do(the premium versions of free VPNs like cyberghost probably does, Hide my ass logs the time you connect). If you live somewhere like Saudi Arabia, they block the websites of VPNs though. Tor isn't secure since the exit node knows pretty much everything you do.
That's for any general website, if reddit got hacked and you don't use a VPN, there's a chance your IP will be found(although unlikely). if reddit doesn't get hacked regardless if you do use a VPN or not, it's SSL encrypted so they don't know what pages you visited. if you're not a leader of a huge international criminal organization, they won't waste their time decrypting SSL just to find out what you did on reddit.
TLDR it's not THAT important to use a VPN on reddit
As an Israeli Arab, I love this country.
Some background: I went to the Hebrew University Of Jerusalem, I now live in Tel Aviv. My professors were always understanding when I needed an extension on a homework due to some eid or family stuff, at work it is a given that on religious occasions I'll take some time off for family, even though everybody knows I'm an atheist.
Jews really come in all shapes, sizes and mindsets. Right across the street from where I live there is a compound of ultra orthodox jews who have big signs on their doors "No entrance for owners of smartphones or internet enabled devices", so it's not all education and enlightenment, even though we have one of the highest university degrees per capita in the world.
But even though the present is awesome, the future seems more worrying: Jewish schools have a mandatory diploma (Arab schools used to have this their own religious studies diploma, but it has long since been made optional) in religious studies, and the teachers who teach this subject are becoming more religious every year (the reason is generally thought to be that teaching is such a low pay high effort job that the teachers are getting worse). The ultra orthodox have many more children than the secular population (it's not unusual to see 10 kids). The arab population is assimilating less and less while at the same time believing more and more in conspiracy theories.
Politics are... messy, they always are I figure. But the biggest disappointment for me is that that the Arab representatives in our parliament understand more about theatrics and drama than they do about politics and policy. Facts don't enter into the equation for them and their position never changes. I chose not to vote for an Arab party due to this mess during the last elections.
Thanks HecklerKoch111, I've uploaded a direct mirror on DropBox (https://www.dropbox.com/s/6w3i4zjikgbl4cw/IslamOrAtheismDebate9Mar2013.mp3) for those who find it more convenient. Will give this a listen later when I have free time, it's 2hr 13mins long for anyone who's interested.
This man is very condescending and i can listen to his arguments for hours but have no clue as to the point he is trying to make. especially about the linguistic miracle of the quran. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcxNF1HEKS4
what the fuck is rhetorical devices and why is this even a miracle?
I think the sikh in one of his debate video (naturally dawahman didn't post that in his channel) described the one word that is probably the best example of a linguistic miracle... the word 'fuck'
>"Fuck" can be used as a noun, verb, adjective, adverb, pronoun, or interjection and can logically be used as virtually any word in a sentence. (https://archive.org/details/Fuck_Definition_By_www.4Teach.com)
Checkmate Islam!
That's what I was looking for. Lings it is. And it's avaliable as a free download from archive.org. Thank you very much.
Thats pretty random. First off the verse is talking about about Idris and in the past tense (indicating a past event not predicting a future one)
>And mention in the Book, Idrees. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. And We raised him to a high station. (19:56-57)
Second, why is the kafir dating system being used? The date would be 1377
Third there were many space missions throughout the forties and fifties (and beyond) shooting rockets into space. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTV-G-4_Bumper here some of them from the bumper missions by the US. The claim that you rip off from the internet is using one of many possible events. If the verse had been 19:48 it would have been how bumper 3 went into space and and the quran used 3 words in this verse so EXTRA MIRACLE
Lastly, the chapter order and verse numbering system of the quran doesn't come from Muhammad but were developed after him (as can be seen from the oldest quranic manuscripts like the sana' codex) with various opinions. "Since the beginning of Islam, the proper number of āyahs has been a topic of dispute among Muslim scholars, some recognizing 6,000, some 6,204, some 6,219, and some 6,236" http://www.britannica.com/topic/Quran
So basically, you're bending a statement using an arbitrary dating system using an arbitrary date based off of something Muhammad had nothing to do with. Gotcha
Another one on same topic
Well I'm thinking more of the sort of therapist who uses modern psychology but tries to sell Muslims on the idea using Islamic justifications, not some mullah who just tells you what duas to say.
Like here's a research paper on this subject: https://www.academia.edu/28221654/Integrating_Islamic_Traditions_in_Modern_Psychology_Research_Trends_in_Last_Ten_Years
While you don't care about the Islam stuff, this might be a way to sell your parents on the idea of therapy.
There is a newer one. https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/apr/11/british-muslims-strong-sense-of-belonging-poll-homosexuality-sharia-law Perhaps they've worked out these things will be reported about in newspapers?
Well, the Muslim response (at least from a learned individual) would be that the Qur'an itself is the "proof," i.e. the "linguistic miracle" via the Surah like it challenge.
The funny thing is, it wasn't true from the beginning, as Muslims would have you believe. The early days of Islam relied on it spreading via Muhammad's charisma and/or forced conversions, it wasn't until several centuries later that the "linguistic miracle" was invented as a way of defending Islam from Christian and Jewish critics.
Here is an academic paper, from the Journel of Qur'anic Studies, which you might be interested in. A relevant excerpt:
>The above is not intended to suggest that the aesthetic merits of the Qur'an and the beauty of its language were novel realizations and 'discoveries' made in pursuing a polemical agenda, with no groundwork of previous general attitudes to pave the way...[but] having noted all the above, one can hazard an alternative - and perhaps much more plausible - hypothesis, namely that the formulation of the doctrine [of the linguistic miracle] was prompted by the confrontation with Christian apologetics and polemics. As S. Griffith points out in his study of the prominent Jacobite apologist Habib ibn Khidma Abu Ra'ita (fl. in the first half of the 8th century), a coordinated Christian response to Islam only emerged after the Abbasid revolution, when the appeal of membership in the Islamic community was enhanced through the promise for inclusion and equality extended to all Muslim believers alike, making conversion an attractive option to upwardly mobile Christians.
The paper goes on to discuss the responses of Christian apologists, writing in Arabic. The Islamic faith was spread like any other faith at first, only later did it evolve to defend itself via the "linguistic miracle."

Far to the northwest of the heartland of Chinese civilization, the Xinjiang region was thinly populated by herders and oasis farmers organized into small kingdoms and tribal alliances. A military commandery (duhufu) named Xiyu was set up for the region under the Xi (Western) Han dynasty in 60 bce,
"The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) documented at least 1,232 civilian deaths in December, with 1,049 killed by regime forces, or more than 85 percent. ISIS is responsible, by this count, for just over 5 percent of the civilian deaths." https://www.quora.com/How-many-people-have-been-killed-by-ISIS
I think you are bringing up a good question but dont water it out with bullshit facts.
^----- this. Seconding the Tor suggestion. I already Reddit that way even though I don't need to. Tor has come a long way, it's fast and usable and Reddit doesn't complain.
The problem is that to come up with sharia rulings they have to use qur'an, Hadith, and sira so if they just ignore everything else and use that then they'd come up with things the same as the Four Imams anyway.
Here's something you might find interesting Modernist Approaches to Reformulating Fiqh: A Study in the Light of Najm Al-Dīn Al-Ṭūfī's Works
But since maslahah is "controversial" it's hard to get that to catch on everywhere.
But it seems more likely to catch on than this because it seems like they have not connected anything they're saying to Islam.
But when dealing with scholars they can't just go "this seems more modern", they've got to have a Islamic justification for it. That's where the difficulty comes from.
Hey kope, almost thought you started using Google search for a second there, and you gave up trolling here.
Do you know what a fallacy is u/kope1959 ?
a misleading or unsound argument.
>so my question is does beating wife in islam a religious ritual?
It is a ritual, as it does fall under the ritual definition. Some synonyms : act, practice, custom, tradition, convention, formality, procedure, protocol
Hence it is done according to religious rules and encouraged if the wife is disobedient. As u/ultimate-shirk indicated above.
Did that answer your question kope?

Betaa, as far as I know it wasn't Islamic beliefs per say that held India's Muslim population back (and I mean the time before the taqseem), but a mistrust of the educational system that the British brought with them. Mistrust they would - the Brits had just knocked them out of their elite societal position under Mughal rule and were running around like they owned the place in their froopy white outfits while telling them to go to non-Islamic schools and study with those low-caste Hindus. Of course it would appear as an attempt to weaken these temporarily embarrassed millionaires!
>For the majority of the world’s 1.6 billion Muslims, jihad is a word that literally means “to struggle.”
Assumption. Where are the statistics to back it up? The translation is "struggle" anyway, so how is this a point? Oh wait. Huffpost. Yeah.
The concept of struggling or striving for religion is Jihad; not the translation of simply the word. It is like the word "intervention" it means more meaning than "intervening... in another's affairs".
And then the article clearly differentiates the multiple meanings:
Therefore their goal of making this concept out to be non-violent, also supported the idea of it also being violent. The Qur'an using "striving" in violent form in Surah 9 and 47. In the latter, particularly when commanding one to strive against disbelievers, to die fighting, for access to heaven. Therefore we already know there is a recognized violent element to this word.
Long story short?
It is a contranym--the term has dual meanings. It is a dual-concept. It depends on how you want to use it. Muhammad has used to mean warfare, and to represent the struggles in spirituality. Therefore can it be used as one or the other or even both? If a Muslim suggests the answer to be no... they are denying the actions of Muhammad.
How can you misunderstand something with dual meaning?
Sanction is another example of this. We placed a sanction on Iran. That usually means stopped them from doing something particularly economically, e.g. trade, or nuclear embargo, etc. When a radical Muslim says "I waged Jihad on the disbelievers," he or she is not talking about he self-struggled to do his prayers, did he?

Why not use reddit on a mobile app with conjuction with a VPN?
Also, reddit on a mobile app may be more conspicuous than just chrome on your PC. If there is a way to hide/lock apps on your phone, I'd consider that.
Dont disclose anything that might be identifiable; name, age, where you live, specific hobbies or passions, or any unusual or noticeable physical features about you.
If you're worried about your ISP spying on you, please get a VPN, and not a free one. The ones I've used whilst overseas are Astrill.
Do you have people who just hop onto and use your mobile phone/computer? If so, consider hiding or locking away the app on mobile. What would be even better is to browse on a computer, but only in Incognito, so that there is no record of your browsing on your PC.
> 3 - I still recommend you watch it from the actual site here. I used DotVPN google chrome extension and set it to UK and used BT20 5YD as the postcode for itv sign up.
Good lookin out
Bro I suggest you download Zenmate,it's a chrome extension that changes your location without compromising internet speed.
Just start reading up about Stoicism on Wikipedia or you can also check out r/philosophy for discussions and recommendations. If you're completely new to this subject, I'd suggest reading Sophie's World. Do have Meditations by Marcus Aurelius on your checklist and read it when you're comfortable with philosophy.
I've used several VPNs on my Android over the last year and a half. The last one of those (for about six months) is VPN Speed. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.freevpn.vpn_speed I have money, but this free VPN satisfies me more than any paid one. Simple, convenient and fast (especially for torrent sites). I usually try not to recommend, but it is an exceptional case. Can find on Play Store
I'm using Tab S T700, a bit of old model but it got 5.0.2 Lollipop upgrade.
>What kinda gaming? Emulation?
More like evolution lol. This is what I like to play on tablet screen Plague Inc.
Thanks /u/godlessdivinity . At this point I am just glad that you are not questioning my "claim of being an exmuslim".
I agree with you. Ramadan can be really difficult. I myself hate thravi, I used to hate it even as a muslim. Also, the fact that, during ramadan you are suddenly forced to act like you are reading quran everyday. Its difficult. But we gotta learn to live with it.
Last year, during thravi, me n my younger bro (who shares my hate for thravi), we used to get out after 1 rakhat and play chain reaction multi player until my father finished his 8 rakhats. Yesterday, again I was compelled to go for thravi because I was at uncle's place. What I did is, I sat at the back and was reading Steve Jobs biography on my phone. I didn't even pray one rakhat, and I was in the mosque for an hour :D So, yesterday's session wasn't all that bad for me.
No worries. Happy Ramadan.
>Agreed there are wide spread views, but I don't really find them in the Western world
There's this.
>Half of all British Muslims think homosexuality should be illegal, poll finds
Of course it hasn't been that long since homosexual acts were illegal in the U.K.
I got this a while ago. :) You need to click "show previous messages" a couple of times to read from the beginning. The first message is me quoting an instant direct message.
https://www.facebook.com/KohrAh/posts/195369520476621
The story behind that is that I found this group for martyrdom supporters: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Green-Birds/168013783238376
I debated there a little bit against fundamentalism and suicide bombs and all that, and got a couple of new Facebook "friends" trying to convert me to a Muslim. Then through the network effect, their friends added me, and in time I came to know an entire network of Al Qaida supporters on Facebook.
Then, one day, one of the more violent of them, who seemed to be some kind of religious teacher, invited me into a real time chat with him and some others. They were trying to use group pressure to convert me. I know this, because I saw the messages in the group before I was added, which wasn't what they intended.
Well, they asked me direct questions, like why don't I believe in Allah. I said that I don't think he exists. Then it was all "We'll kill you on your doorsteps!!!"
Two questions: Do you agree with the following which states that a girl can be married before she starts her period? https://islamqa.info/en/answers/12708/is-it-acceptable-to-marry-a-girl-who-has-not-yet-started-her-menses
Do you agree with the fact that sexual slavery was practiced in the time of the prophet? https://www.notion.so/Sex-693679ac6193406fb80870f8bbbb22e0 (see hadith here)
I too would recommend "23 years", by Ali Dashti. The book very informative, eloquent and features a much objective analysis on the life of Muhammad, his Quran and the rise of Islam. Ali Dashti was clearly a very intelligent and well versed individual not just in Islamic literature, but on various other subjects.

Both of those movies were nominated for best picture at the Oscars and Argo won.
And what does that even have to do with anything, I don't think I understand your point?

So you have a retired british former professor ( they couldn’t find a muslim) that would take the petro dollars to supplement his pension funds to write a totally incoherent story about astrological calculations? Not convincing. Gibson’s reaction on King’s poor rebutal really hits it home, especially if you read that King falsely accuses Gibson of being a christian misonary, very unrespectful and unscholarly. https://www.academia.edu/34514746/Response_to_David_King_without_attached_article
And what did you say about the flying donkey again?

i can't personally give much useful advice, i'm afraid, but i've heard cronometer is a nice app to track your nutrients.
you might be able to get more relevant advice concerning your diet on /r/AskVegans or from a dietician.
can't say i have any tricks up my sleeve to convince your fiancé, either. you could maybe ask him to try plant based alternatives like beyond meat. but i've never tried it in the past so i can't personally vouch for it. in the end it all depends on why he wants to eat meat (maybe he thinks it's healthier, likes the taste or just doesn't care). you probably know more about him than i do.
That's why we ask for proof for claims, and religious texts often come with many claims to be debunked by science or reasoning.
Ps: are you actually from Somalia? I'm reminded of the grave earning in this website about travelling to Mogadishu
