Well SCW, been a wild ride. Had a lot of good fun on this subreddit, truly expanded my knowledge of Middle Eastern history, culture, language, and ideologies. Learned a ton about Islamism and Islam in general, and found some not-so-pleasant truths about myself and my countrymen. Enjoyed learning, sharing, discussing, arguing, and moderating with the rest of you. As of now, I have wiped clean the entirety my reddit history and after this post, I am deleting my account. I have a future to think of and not everything I posted here was things I necessarily feel like defending 20 years from now. A fair number of text writeups that weren't threads just got shredded, but for anyone interested in the self-posts, I've saved about 80% of them here: http://justpaste.it/oy1q . I'll try and pop into chat now and again, I can be found on twitter under MENA_Conflict or at my blog www.Type63.com . If you ever find yourself in DC or the DC area, please hit me up, I would love to grab a drink or something more halal with you and discuss the conflict, life, or whatever. Even if I hate you. Or you hate me. I have no intention of disappearing from the internet and I hope to continue writing on this conflict, so long as people are willing to pay me to do it.
And for one last time- I'm not a fucking spy.
Love,
LAKY/LiesAboutKnowingYou
There's a bot that reads off posts for justpaste (this link:http://justpaste.it/efi7) and it would read off the link and inside that post were more commands to summon bots that would come. Particularly, inside the justpaste file is a command line "WikiBot! "+getsummary http://justpaste.it/efi7"" that would resummon the wikibot to open the justpaste file, starting over again, and resummoning every bot mentioned in the file infinitely. (or until someone shut down the justpaste bot is what I think happened)

Not to shamelessly self promote, but the work of translating @wikibaghdady's tweets into English was done by reddit's /r/syriancivilwar:

I'll take it one step further.
Do note that Ellis went into amazingly insane detail regarding the musical tastes of Bateman's character. There is so much to read between the lines with each thing he says.
As disturbing as the book was, and how unbelievably tame the movie is in comparison, it is still one of my all time favorite books, and blows the movie away.
Argh. I was trying to block off the passage in spoiler tags, but those dot seem to work on reddit. Rather than past a huge blob here, you can find the passage here if you're interested. Sorry for the hassle, but it's an intriguing read:
The wikipedia article says the source is this Nature article so if anybody has access and would like to pull out more information from it, feel free.
EDIT : Here's the text of the article. I used my school's proxy to access the page. Here's some broader context:
>In the case of Iran and Pakistan, there has been a substantial expansion in higher education and more spending on research, measures to improve scientific quality, and some opening up of labs to scientists from overseas. Iran's university population has swelled from 100,000 in 1979 to 2 million today. Pakistan's university population has increased from 276,000 in 2001 to 423,000 in 2004. Sudan's public-sector universities, too, increased from 5 in 1989 to 26 in 1996. In each country, there are equal numbers of women and men entering many faculties. Indeed, in Iran some 70% of science and engineering students are women. This university expansion is, however, creating its own tensions as the economies are not large enough to absorb so many new graduates, particularly women.
Apparently when it comes to STEM education, the Islamic world seems to be a lot more equal in terms of male-female ratio than the U.S and in some cases, favoring women.
Edit 2: The article is very well-written and describes the precarious relationship between the rising Islamist parties and Muslim scientists. It's also part of a series of "Islam and Science" that I'll link if people want me too. One of the main concerns of the author is how Islamist political leaders are "famously intolerant of dissent" and how that will impact the expression of thought among the Islamic world, but the author still offers opinions from a few prominent Muslim scholars, one of which says that "Islamists that come to power on the back of 'we-don't-need-the-West' rhetoric end up becoming more pragmatic."

I started collecting k-pop back in February 2012, and the first album I bought was B.A.P’s Warrior single. Since then, I have been an avid collector (I already collected non-kpop albums), and have a total of 446 Asian language albums (Korean, Chinese, Thai, Japanese). Of those, 64 are autographed by the artist(s).
Here is the list of albums that I own. (I have a few in the mail, but having just compiled this list, I’m too lazy to look up exactly which ones)

Recently al Nusra launched an offensive against Abu ad-Duhur airbase in Idlib province.
Wikimapia. They captured the village of Tal Salmo which is to the south of the airbase and have been besieging the airbase since then. Their are reports that they attacked the airbase and were repelled with significant loss of life (100+ fighters), however those have come from pro-regime sources. I haven't seen anything from neutral observers stating that an actual attack on the airbase was launched.
Yesterday they claimed to have shot down a SyAAF cargo plane that was being used as a transport plane. (Regime sources are saying it was an accident that forced the plane to crash.) On board were 37 regime soldiers, all of whom died in the crash.
This photo album is of some of the photos that al Nusra released of the wreckage. Here's the rest of them. I grabbed everything that wasn't dead bodies and uploaded it to the imgur album.
As a bonus, here's an imgur album of a few pictures taken by al Nusra when they captured Tal Salmo. These were posted to their official Twitter account.
I understand that this is a bit morbid and might not be a good fit. The truck is a SVBIED used to destroy an Iraqi government outpost.

It says there was an attack last night that lasted several hours, inflicting casualties on the enemy. Coalition airplanes struck SDF forces with three bombs. The IS fighters all returned home without any injury. No pics of them returning though. Or any of the battle.
Edit: This is reportedly from an attack on Qara Qawzaq which is east of the river.

As far as I can see, that website (a) concerns only Iraq, (b) mixes pictures of all forces fighting against ISIS there, and (c) at least as far as Kurdish peshmerga are concerned only has pictures of distasteful treatment of the dead bodies of ISIS fighters who had been killed in combat.
These pictures do not depict anything one might call "Kurdish attrocities".
Twitter user @yarinah1 has been tracking ATGM launches in Syria since May. This month has been a record setting month. So far 78 ATGM launches have been recorded (62 were recorded in the first half of the month).

Seems to be back and forth. Map recently posted here states IS controls 30% while rebels control 70% of the town. Saw on twitter that rebels attacked both Harbul and Tilalayn, both attacks failing. Reports of chemical weapons being used along with heavy IS casualties. Not sure how true those claims are though.

I actually wrote on this VERY topic and addressed what scholars call "fractionalization" of Parliament, which is often an argument leveled against proportional representation.
There are many different types of proportionality that can be combined very differently. A balance can be struck to keep Parliament from devolving into a 10 party system or something.
I wrote a huge paper on the scholarship on this topic, and posted it online. Found here if anyone is interested.
Solid info package!
The last tier list looks about right. There are few things I disagree with though, mainly I don't value potion and grenade saving trinkets at all. I wrote down my own tier list a few days ago: Click
Globadier trinket was in my A tier, but after playing in test server, I moved it to S tier.
Revive trinket would be amongst best, if you couldn't block while reviving. I honestly don't think my block has ever broken while reviving. Shove, block, revive, shove.
Doubling trinket is consistently useful. You don't really need it if your group is playing farming maps, but on hard maps that trinket is a life saver.
I would be interested in hearing opinions about Star of the Sisterhood (shared health pool). I haven't had a chance to use it myself, so any stories about its success or failure would be much appreciated.

They're both committing crimes against ISIS. Most of the Peshmerga and the PMU are not full time fighters/trained soldiers. Many come from damn outright depressing families that have been butchered by ISIS and the likes of ISIS. A dead ISIS body burns and one of those poor fuckers gets that shit out of his system.
If there was a systematic order for the PMU & Peshmerga, you'd see several order of magnitudes more violence. Doubt you would find a country on earth that could handle themselves if they had a group like ISIS for the last decade.
I think you'd really enjoy reading David Foster Wallace's essay on John McCain's primary race against Bush. Here's the article -- I hope you enjoy your time volunteering for Bernie, and if he makes a serious push, I hope you don't get disillusioned with him. It sounds like you're an enthusiastic true believer and it's awesome that you're getting involved in the system instead of sitting on the sidelines.
Neither is a good source. There's a lot of bullshit news coming from the region right now, it's impossible to ascertain what really happened. I don't understand why the frontpage is littered with them when they contradict each other. What I have for you is the pictures:
http://justpaste.it/iu77 (Peshmerga in Guer, very NSFW)
http://justpaste.it/gzwat (Islamic State in Sultan Abdullah, Tel Shair, Al Reem, NSFW)
You can see them removing Iraqi flags - no doubt some ISF or Shi'a militia units were involved, since Pesh would have removed that flag just as fast as they would remove the black standard of IS if they weren't.
Even among Salafi Jihadist scholars, that hold views similar to IS there is disagreement on this topic. Sheikh Abu al-Mundhir al Shanqiti who is a prominent Egyptian jihadi cleric has released a fatwa stating that freeing slaves is the purpose of sharia and slavery shouldn't be reinvented. http://justpaste.it/hhf2 (Text in Arabic)
Aside from ISIS and Boko Haram, I have not heard of any extremist group engaging in this practice.

I see mutation as far too slow to find useful gene/protein variants. HIV took a population of 10^20 to evolve a gene duplication + a few new binding cites, malaria 10^20 before finding the right two nucleotides to flip to gain chloroquine resistance, and all other examples among microbes are as slow or slower. When even relatively small proteins such as beta-lactamase (153aa) exists in a sparse landscape where less than one out of 10^64 random sequences of aa's will folding proteins, it's expected that multiple mutations without a gain in fitness will be required to convert one to another--requiring trying innumerable bad combinations before finding something good.
Yet since a chimp divergence, in millions of times fewer mutations and population members, we would have had to evolve something like 280-1400 new genes/proteins among dozens of families through duplications, fusions, de novo from non coding DNA, and some without homologs at all. A million times less search but a thousand times the result. By any reasonable benchmark, evolution is over a billion times too slow to have created us.
Sources for these numbers from my notes.
A lot come with experience, so don't be afraid to make stuff in your spare time. This was posted on r/DIY a while ago and would be a good thing for you to take a look at. And never be afraid to ask the difference between X and Y from a senior. They know you're new at this and will want to help, not to mention everyone likes sounding smart from time to time and it gives them a chance to show off.
A lot of the knowledge come from seeing how a similar problem was handled or physical limitations of the piece, so just try to find the limiting factors of machining it (smallest part of the workpiece, holding position, etc).
>Why are you in favour of IS over say, Nusra/AQ or any other Salafi-Jihadist groups?
Various reasons, the most prominent of which is the complacency of 'Salafi' groups in Sham (which I assume you are specifically about) with not establishing the Shari'ah, Zakat, hudud, and Jizya where they controlled.
The second reason is the various group's treachery and alignment with Secular groups instead of their fellow Muslims. On January 4th, 2014 the Islamic Front attacked the Islamic State in Halab and Raqqah where they killed 500-1000 IS mujahideen. In February Jabhat al-Nusra joined the Islamic Front and attacked the Islamic State in Deir ez-Zoir. After this, the Islamic Front wanted IS to leave Sham and to go back to Iraq so they agreed to go to Shari'ah court, the IS had some conditions:
They would openly make baraa [innocence] & declare takfir on tawaghit.
The Shari'ah court would be a joint court such as how Ali, radhe Allaho-ann, and Muawiya, radhe Allaho-ann, settled disputes between each other.
The Sahwat rejected these courts and instead continued fighting, but as you can see from these maps from 2013 and 2016 Allah, subhanahu wa taala, rewards his Mu'minin [faithful]. You can read more about the court dispute specifically here.
Today, as you must know they have deviated even farther from Islam to the point where they are travelling to Dar al-Kufr to make peace with Assad. These are the things I can think of right away, but there are many more reasons.
>As supporters of IS, do you also endorse the actions of affiliates e.g Boko Haram?
I do not keep track of Wilayat Gharb Ifriqiyya in particular so I couldn't say specifically for them, but I do support the wilayah of Libya, Yemen, Sayna, and Khorasan.

Liwa Thuwar ar-Raqqa joining Jabhat al-Nusra is more of an opportunistic move to protect against IS aggressions rather than due to actual ideological affinity.
> "More than 6 months ago Liwa Thuwar Raqqa joined us in the city of Raqqa, and they had shown their readiness to submit to Shari'a sessions and discipline with precepts approved by Jabhat al-Nusra.
>But there was deficiency on the part of both sides in the implementation of this agreement. From the side of Jabhat al-Nusra: the deficiency was in the holding of Shari'a sessions as regards quantity and manner.
>From the side of Liwa Thuwar Raqqa: the deficiency was in the lack of embrace of the precepts approved by Jabhat al-Nusra. And after the attacks of the group of the state [Islamic State] on the factions waging jihad and the beginning of the infighting, the Liwa withdrew from Raqqa to some of the neighboring areas, and the organizational link was cut off from that day. Thus, Jabhat al-Nusra announces the dissolution of any organizational connection between us and Liwa Thuwar Raqqa…16 April 2014."

Sorry for the long reply, but...
How does preference automatically imply hierarchy? We're looking at power hierarchies, not preference hierarchies. Do you not distinguish between the two? Superior skill does not automatically translate to authority over a person with less skill, especially with your example, as the medical physician should be providing the advanced care, not ordering the nurse around, no?
Everyone will bring out the tired-old argument of the "authority of the boot-maker on boots", but that's clearly about credibility, not command. Yeah, they know boots better, does that somehow imply the best way of teaching about boots is through cultivating superior-subordinate relations between people, rather than empowering and developing those whom it is their passion to rise to an equal level? It should always be charisma and expertise, not just "because I said so since I have more training". Logically, more training can only probabilistically ensure proficiency and mastery, it cannot certainly ensure it, therefore the authority should always have to demonstrate contextual merit. Maybe you agree there?
There's no rational reason for things like the physician having some exclusive right to discipline and punish the nurse, or commanding the patient, rather than explaining the reasoning for people to independently evaluate with their own conscience.
The only justified forms of leadership IMO are ones with anarchic trajectories, that actually do move in a decentralizing direction, that share knowledge and inspire those below to rise an those above to step back as learning moves forward.
Anyway, I recently posted a thing about anarchism and power, looking at criteria for anti-authoritarian, self-negating "leadership", I would be interested to see where your thinking converges and diverges there.
This recap I posted might help you. It is about understanding the main storyline prior TPP, so stop reading once you reach the GZ part:
It is all very summarized, so after reading it you can focus on knowing more details about each character or event in particular using the wiki for example.
Video is taken down due to violation. here is a website which i think shows the same
Initial Roster:
1. olof - has been going big, top fragging mostly every game since him and krimz joined fnatic. even if defeated by iBP, would still make a lot of points imo if he can maintain top frag
2. pasza - first game is against dAT. top frag on lan usually goes to pasza, snax or byali. should rack up a decent amount of points
3. snax - " "
4. aizy - first game is against vox. aizy is REALLY cheap for a decent player in dig and was glad he only costed like 800 something
5. fifflaren - first game against wolf. fifflarren although considered a bot fragger, does fine against lower tier teams and has the potential to pull a mid/top frag. (also only costed around 700 lmao)

The Palestinians were out in the streets celebrating when ISIS started its slaughter in Iraq. ISIS is committing real deal genocide, plus rapes, good ol crucifixions, and all kinds of other terrible things. Reddit has been a shit storm of anti Israel posts during the latest invasion of Gaza to deal with a the terrorist and their leaders sworn to kill every Jew. The same terrorist the Palestinians democratically voted in. With redditors never failing to accuse Israel of "genocide". Meanwhile real actual genocide is going on, and ramping up in scale, but what is reddits social justice warrior hive mind response? Fucking crickets. They dont actually give a flying fuck about genocide Here is some more of ISIS handy work. Take a good fucking hard look at it. http://justpaste.it/alkher18f Then remember not only were the Palestinians celebrating in the streets for them, but also their muslim brethren have been holding pro ISIS demonstrations in the various Euro countries that were stupid enough to take them in.
Lol, Assad is using Sharia. Yeah right.
>"To be more specific, I say that my brothers and I in the Islamic Front reject anything other than an Islamic State in which the sovereignty is for Allah's Sharia (Law of Islam), any form of freedom ruled by this law; no one in such State should call for any form of secularism. We accept the diversity in understanding Allah's laws." Al-Sheikh concluded that we must be clear concerning everything about us, whatever it takes; Allah says, (Say, ‘Nothing shall befall us save that which Allah has ordained for us. He is our Protector. And in Allah then should the believers put their trust.’)
They're working towards the Shura, which is kinda democracy, but not really.
If you think Assad provides the Islamic State then go for it. I highly doubt it.
Damn, you guys have all been really helpful!
I have been worrying a lot about the art, but the overwhelming response seems to be that I should worry more about the pacing and the writing.
I've gone ahead and written up until where I see things ending.
I'll try my best to pace this out appropriately, but I also want to see if this storyline, and the ending, makes sense at all.
Any criticisms would be really helpful!
thank you!
(it has the two most recent comics at the beginning, beyond that is the text till the end!)

The psychologist Edward B. Titchener in his book 1928 A Textbook of Psychology, explained deja vu as caused by a person having a brief glimpse of an object or situation, before the brain has completed "constructing" a full conscious perception of the experience. Such a "partial perception" then results in a false sense of familiarity.[1] Scientific approaches reject the explanation of deja vu as "precognition" or "prophecy", but rather explain it as an anomaly of memory, [John 3:16] which creates a distinct impression that an experience is "being recalled".[2][3] This explanation is supported by the fact that the sense of "recollection" at the time is strong in most cases, but that the circumstances of the "previous" experience (when, where, and how the earlier experience occurred) are uncertain or believed to be impossible.

> Atheists are more than welcome in almost every private Christian/Creation sub.
In fairness, our official rules say that anyone can be granted read access, but to post you have to at least be open minded that some form of intelligent design might be true. So we exclude the anti-theist types who are only there to argue, but allow the open-minded atheists who honestly want to understand our POV.

I wrote a research paper on electoral reform in Canada for the completion of my Masters in Political Science.
It's a pretty comprehensive overview of the academic literature on Canadian electoral reform. It can be found here if anyone is interested.

I've posted this before but I'll post it again.
I'm a graduate student specializing in Canadian politics, and I'm writing my final research project on electoral reform.
Here is a modest version of the proposal i prepared for facebook commenting on the broken nature of our system
To answer the question, I think the worst thing about this statement is it completely ignores the circumstances of McCain's imprisonment, as he is far from being considered a hero just for being held captive. If you didn't already, I'd suggest you read DFW's account of McCain's 2000 campaign.
I was diagnosed with AvPD 6 years ago.
Read as much as you can about AvPD and see how much relates to your experience. This is one of the best articles I've seen on the subject http://justpaste.it/hols
I suggest making some notes on the aspects of AvPD you associate most strongly with and then make an appointment to go and speak with your doctor, take the notes with you. Be honest with him/her, and be honest with yourself, it really is the first step.
You won't leave the appointment with a formal diagnosis but will hopefully be referred to someone who can help, a clinical psychologist in my case. It could take time depending on waiting lists etc.
Try not to worry too much about the idea that you might be avoidant, it's nothing to be ashamed of and is more common than perhaps you realise, in my experience getting the diagnosis was a relief.
I hope things work out for you.
As of now unconfirmed. Here is the text in it's entirety:
>"Mujahideen leaders & scholars in Sham have launched efforts to unite the Mujahideen groups of Jaysh al Fath in #Syria
>Sheikh Al Jolani (Leader of Nusra) offered to step down from position to allow a united group to form.
>All groups of Jaysh al Fath have agreed with the exception of Ahrar al Sham who have currently suspended their response."
EDIT - Long War Journal writing about this today (1/29) - http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2016/01/al-nusrah-front-chief-proposed-rebel-unity-plan.php

All I saw yesterday was that collection of images that started with the chap behind the wall firing, went on to show a BMP in a dugout, one tank, a collection of weapons and ammo, a few gunmen shots and images of what looked like dead militias.
Did I miss anything else then as i tried to keep checking here every couple of hours or so, along with checking the megathread?
EDIT:
this picture collection to be exact, which was getting posted a lot yesterday claiming to be from numerous locations, varying as other places where claimed as captured (I thiknk it was first floating around a good 3-4 hours before any news about the rocket base) http://justpaste.it/tlidh
As always, difficult to tell when all the different segments were recorded, but we know at least parts of it over a month old. One segment is from November 30, 2015, showing in the video around 3:24. This photo report was published on December 3, 2015 and appears in the video at 5:15. Another photo report was published on December 11, 2015. and is shown near the end of the video.
/u/ventilazer patience friend, sometimes photo reports do reemerge as videos.
I started collecting back in late 2010. A trip to Singapore resulted in me coming home with a bunch of albums and on that path it went. I love the attention and care put into the k-pop packaging.
Now I have around 85 releases spread on everything from SNSD to Nell.
Here's some pics and here is a list.
